Best Jack The Ripper Documentary (2024 Updated)

“Hacksaw Ridge” is one of my favorite WWII movies to watch. It’s an incredible story with great effects. I didn’t buy this online but when I was walking around Target one day. I love physical media and really hate to see DVDs, CDs, and similar stuff dying off.

Whenever I see a piece of physical media I like, especially at such a steal of a price, I buy it. Streaming may be more convenient, but when you have the DVD/CD, no one can take it from you and charge you to watch it on a different platform.

Remember that.

I am ex-Vietnam, so I can attest to the close accuracy of what was shown. Yes, if for some reason you are not liked, they will beat the hell out of you and you really don’t know who did it because there were too many and you are trying to hide all your vital parts.

The story is about a person, not about basic training in the military, so lots more could have been shown, but why. The military operates under a set of codes and they are numerous and complex, but to disobey the base commander’s orders is to invoke all manner of wrath.

Logic and common sense do not enter into the game. But having a very high ranking officer say let it go will cause it to be let go. The battle scenes ended up exaggerated, but that comes from blowing up light-weight dummies not real people.

Live with it. Okinawa is a volcanic island and it is riddled with caves and tunnels naturally. But the Japanese used them and expanded upon them. Some of my WWII friends say they really did stream out of the underground caves in that manner and it was hoard trying to overrun them.

This is a powerful movie about a real-life hero who stuck to his principles in the face of strong opposition by the military command and by his fellow soldiers. The heroism and courage of this soldier is both humbling and inspiring in the face of such extreme circumstances as war.

I highly recommend it.

I love all the Jack Ryan movies and to have these 5 in one collection is just perfect!

Whether or not you did or did not like all the actors who played Jack Ryan so far, with this collection you will be able to have them all to go back and make comparisons. Terrific movies for the most part.

Having read all of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books I was at first a little dismayed at the casting of Tom Cruise in the title role. He doesn’t fit the author’s description of the character at all. But I needn’t have worried.

Cruise manages to make the part all his own and the result is an action-packed, thrilling and believable movie that I recommend without reservation. I’m looking forward to buying the sequel.

An ex military sniper is arrested for killing five random people and severely beaten. Before he slips into unconsciousness he asks for Jack Reacher. Jack arrives and notices that things don’t add up.

The evidence is too easily found. Someone is following him and when hired goons try to get rid of him he knows for sure something bigger is going on.

Fast, Fabulous, and Fierce. Lee Child’s book-to-film character – Jack Reacher – is a one man army; a retired MP major who’s fierce and intelligent, and uses unconventional methods and means to right wrongs from the top brass down.

He doesn’t go looking for trouble. But it never ceases to find him.

Before I read this book I thought that all the victims of Jack the Ripper were prostitutes. This is far from the case. In fact, the majority of these women were living in very poor circumstances due to having been widowed or having had to leave an unhappy marriage.

They all had interesting lives, had worked hard and had been very unlucky. The author is sympathetic to the women and in this book tells the story of their short lives and how terrible it was the be a single woman without male support in Victorian England.

Breaking the Ripper myths, the work isn’t by some armchair sleuth, Hallie is an actual historian who has put the time and effort into researching her subject properly. She has, in a way, given the victims a voice they never had before.

Having read an article on this book, I wanted to know more about these poor women that had survived, but it’s never been shown on television and I didn’t know any women had survived. What a book, riveting from start to finish.

I bought it from the historical point and highly recommend.

One of Michael Douglas’s most compelling, gut-wrenching, disturbing, and heart breaking films EVER! Not to mention thought provoking: put yourself in his shoes. Any one of us would have done EXACTLY THE SAME.

Michael Douglas nails the part! Playing a man whose life has — drop by drop — been taken away from him while he was “playing by the rules”. He didn’t see it coming at all. now he is the caricature of a man who has been left behind by “progress” and misses the “good old days” (so to speak).

An interesting and timely take on Americana. Even now its narrative has relevance and holds up.

Most people drive to their jobs. The commute times in cities can vary a lot. East, west, north, or south, everybody has been caught up in traffic at some point going to work. The main character in this movie has had enough.

When he gets tied up in traffic he gets frustrated and exits his car and begins walking. Now his journey begins. I’m not going to spoil it for you. I can not recall a movie similar to this one. There are people that would give this movie just 3 stars, but I am giving it 4 stars.

I really enjoyed the movie.

Hollywood’s depiction of crime in a seedy Texas setting. Heavy Reliance on Texan stereotypes just the way Hollywood likes to portray them: invariably negative. Replete with phony accents too.

Great movie, enjoyed it, liked all the actor’s n actress’s that played in this great movie. Although it was an old film, it was very entertaining, a film I will watch again n again. So glad I bought it!.

This is a good movie which could have been truly great. Great premise, good actors, and a feeling of dread. That said, bad guys were obvious from the start and a major plot thread / red herring was left unresolved.

Good but not great.

Great movie has a great storyline. The actors were very good in the movie. I like the seen of billy jack fighting for what he believes in. and had a great action pack story. I would recommend this movie to everyone who loves a great drama.

Old memories of yesteryear when I first saw this movie. Now to relive it again are just as much fun but also more of a learning curve as well since matured. These classics are part of my growing up, so it’s nice have a little help along the way.

Billy Jack was a pioneer to the “people done wrong in local community club” he made a statement that everyone has a right to be free and be themselves and not a puppet on a string defying the ways the ignorance, bigotry, indifference, or creed.

Wonderful snapshot of the 70’s. Great to see Prescott (film location) in the background of this film. Refreshing to see how far we as a society have come from the intolerant past.

The way all the stories are explained in this particular movie I felt was very vague. I am disappointed that I purchased this movie. There is a movie of 6 stories told with a couple names from the Serial killers movie.

It has Helter skelter, Michael Caine story. Two girls that were kidnapped then escaped. I personally think that the movies of six on one DVD was written better and gave a better description of what happened in each case.

Had seen this documentary series several times because it is so thorough in it’s description of each one of the serial killers and their crimes. Starting with Jack the Ripper it grips your attention and doesn’t let go.

Bought another DVD for a neighbor whose a fan of horror movies so in this she get’s to see the real thing. The experts really get into the heads of these killers. Evil beyond belief!!.

This is a very thorough ten-part documentary at a reasonable price. My reason for taking off a point (rating it good rather than excellent) is that it is a bit TOO thorough. The title is AMERICA’S SERIAL KILLERS.

When it sticks to the topic, it’s riveting. But it goes off-topic often, in great detail. An entire episode is devoted to Jack The Ripper (a BRITISH serial killer); other episodes delve into vampires, werewolves, and movies about fictional serial killers.

These tangents are interesting if you are into that sort of thing; viewers who are interested ONLY in American serial killers might not be enthusiastic. A very long intro is repeated at the beginning of each episode, which gets repetitious if you’re watching multiple episodes in one sitting.

The narrator also uses a creepy, high-pitched voice when quoting the serial killers. Otherwise, the documentary is serious, dignified, and does not exaggerate or glorify the criminals. Even if you think you know the stories of America’s most notorious serial killers, this DVD may offer new information.

For example, I was surprised to learn that Ed Gein only killed THREE people; he was into performing atrocities on dead bodies, so most of his victims were dug up from the local cemetery. Definitely worth watching.

The beauty of 16 Blocks is that Bruce Willis perfectly plays the role of the good bad guy. Mos Def adds to the perfection with a relatable gregarious personality. In Hostage, an atypical hostage situation reveals a myriad of villains.

I’d seen this movie before, having rented, so I went for owning it! Well worth it! Really saying ‘Bruce WIllis’ should be enough. however, the movie also offers a cold blooded killer, a family in a cryptic safe house, the FBI – or are they?! Who wants what and where is and who are they going to hold HOSTAGE for it?!.

This is one of Bruce Willis’ finest. Not only do you get the action you’ve come to expect, but you get a very personal look into the character he portrays. After a bad hostage situation where he loses a child, he steps down from command rather than blame himself if another hostage negotiation fails.

But he is pulled back in, to save not only the two children being held hostage, but his own wife and daughter. Bruce Willis plays this part beautifully, and the tears are real. I, personally, would not hesitate to recommend this movie.

I had seen the movie prior to purchasing the DVD at a local “Free viewing” event that is quite popular with Churches and pro-life organizations. Movie is based on the trial of Kermit Gosnell, an abortion provider in the Philadelphia area and from most accounts fairly accurate to the actual events so I knew that I had to have it for my collection after watching it.

DVD is pretty straight forward containing the movie with a documentary on the making of the movie as well as an interview of the District Attorney that prosecuted Gosnell along with the actress that played her in the.

I’ve not watched the interview in its entirety but it appears that she describes much of the behind the scenes events that she took prior to going to trial including going to a local hospital to see premature babies delivered at the stage of development that the abortions took place and how much effort was needed to perform the abortion with the fetuses being in the shape that they were discovered in.

The end of the movie contains actual footage from the police raid on the facility to show how accurate it was portrayed in the movie. I would have much rather gotten this in Blu-ray but I contacted the producers to see if it was available in HD, unfortunately it’s only available in that format on streaming services like Vudu, which is why I subtracted a star.

This movie isn’t for the faint of heart, some of the events depicted in here are rather disturbing, yet it doesn’t really show anything gorey or shocking images. The topic of abortion has pretty well caused people to be entrenched in their views so if you’re opposed to it, this will certainly cement your opinion with it and I doubt if this movie is going to sway you to be opposed to the practice, but I do think that it certainly might sway pro-choice people to improve enforcement of laws regulating clinics as well as even increasing standards that clinics should have imposed on them.

Very impressed with the quality of the movie. I checked various sources (NY Times, Washington Post, Washington Examiner) to read of details of the trial when it was taking place. I believe the account to be highly accurate.

I’m sure there was some literary license taken. On the other hand, the movie was far less graphic than the reality. Like all stories of series killers, lots of questions are raised. What goes on in the mind of someone like this? How can they possibly become so twisted that they believe there is nothing wrong with their actions or even take pleasure in what they are doing? How did Gosnell get away with what he did for so long? Further, there seems to be a lot of evidence that this movie was surpressed.

What are the reasons? Like many movies that are really worth watching, this one is disturbing. Being troubled and disturbed is sometimes necessary (perhaps similar in a way to how I felt after viewing the Murrah Memorial in Oklahoma City).

NOT just about abortion but about a psychopathic doctor who truly hated women. It is sad that the subject matter puts people on the defensive from watching and discussing this movie. Hollywood almost banned it for Pete’s Sake! It is sad that the subject matter and investigation of this doctor was not even covered by the media! Another assumption by our society that you don”t discuss what is a “hot potato” topic.

Not only were Fully developed babies killed after birth but a woman died from this doctor’s care in a clinic infested with mice, filth, incompetent untrained personnel, illegally obtained drugs, out of date drugs, broken equipment and covering up evidence.

And this guy was in business for over 30 years. He thought he was untouchable and apparently answered everyone with the smile of a cold blooded killer. EVERYONE should see this movie. Moreover, everyone should learn from it that outside forces are consistently trying to tell us what we should learn about, care about and how to feel about things.
