IšverstiShow in original languageI purchased this Android TV Streaming Media Player based on a number of reviews indicating it was very capable and runs the Android OS. During setup I discovered it worked very poorly with my Philips 4K TV which is less than a year old. It would not enter sleep mode and had to be unplugged and restarted every time the TV was turned on. It then took about 40 minutes to restart until it would work properly. Also I was never able to get the settings right to make it work with HDMI-CEC (ARC) from the TV to home theatre and could only get basic sound to work with an optical cable. The best picture quality achieved was only 720p. In addition a large number of apps I wanted to use with it would not work with the Nvidia Shiled TV. The ProtonVPN , Disney+, CNN, CBC, CTV, Global apps as well as others would not work at all and crashed repeatedly. I contacted Nvidia tech support several times but they were unable to resolve any of the issues and made vague promises of future Android OS updates to address bugs. Due to these problems it was almost useless for my needs and I finally gave up and replaced it with an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, which has worked effortlessly from the start with all my apps, produces better video quality and functions very well with the TV and home theatre. The Nvidia Shield was and expensive waste of money and I can’t recommend it. After fighting with it for 2 months I was unable to return it as it was past 30 days and not technically a hardware defect.

There are numerous competitors that do almost the exact same thing but with a little bonus: they might actually turn on. I’ve had this device for less than 12 months. At first, all was well, and the video quality looked good and had wide compatibility. At first the Shield refused to turn on every now and then, possibly just to keep me on my toes. I could get around this with a hard reset: unplugging the power cable and waiting a ten count before rebooting. This worked intermittently for a few more months before the device simply bricked. It output no audio and no video, making it only suitable as an extremely expensive and poorly shaped doorstop. Merely figuring this out was itself a chore as the Shield has absolutely no external lights, indicators, or otherwise to communicate its status. Once I ruled out the cable (tested) and the TV (tested) only the Shield remained the problem. NVIDIA did send a replacement. This lasted all of 1 month (bringing the total number of months I got out of this $150 purchase to a whooping 10) before dying exactly like its predecessor. Perhaps not “exactly like,” as this 2.0 unit skipped the hard reset phase and went straight from operational to bricked. This is a completely unacceptable level of QC or build quality from a $150 product. NVIDIA could – and should – send another, but that would do little to mitigate the immense frustration of an extensive steaming box utterly failing at doing the single most basic tasks for which it was designed. Do not buy this. If you want to get the same experience, turn off your TV and look at the black screen. Burn $150 in a small pile next to you. There you have it.

The remote won’t lay flat, the cylindrical device itself would roll of the table if not plugged in, I can’t reach the SD card slot without tweezers, and playing games on it is a hassle to the point where I haven’t really bothered- I played around with Steam Link, and it worked…. ok. Maybe fine for a turn-based game. The main reason I’m writing this review is that this thing is EXPENSIVE. Compared to rokus, firesticks, or other android TVs, this thing is just plain pricey, and what do you get for it? It is fast, loading stuff goes nice and quick. But the remote isn’t great, and it also lacks things like the ability to plug in headphones for private listening. A huge issue though, is are the ads. A third of the screen is taken up with ads for shows that I didn’t pick, on services I don’t have. NVIDIA claims this is all google’s doing, and they can’t do anything about it. My guess is that about 150 bucks from you isn’t enough, and they wanted an extra dollar from google ads. Either way, they’re not interested in fixing it, so it looks like that’s how it is from now on, just like how you’ve got a big branded NETFLIX button on your remote. Why? A buck from Netflix, I guess. If you simply must have “the best”, and are willing to devote a few hours to fixing it out of the box, go for it. If you’re hoping for the best streaming right out of the box, I’d buy a roku stick and wait for something better to come along.

E’ un ottimo prodotto se avete una connessione fibra (i giochi funzionano in streaming, serve molta banda) e se sapete smanettare un po’ (GeForce Now ancora in beta, quindi ogni tanto possono esserci inconvenienti da risolvere per installare i giochi o con gli aggiornamenti). In cambio avete una scelta di giochi molto ampia, con tantissimi titoli “importanti” gi inclusi gratis (per ora), Steam integrato ecc. ecc. E poi ha su android tv, quindi potete usare tutte le app che girano su android tv (netflix, ecc.). Se invece avete una connessione lenta, o se non sapete smanettare, lasciate stare.

It is the only gadget among set top boxes and smart TVs that allows Plex with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos supported.The user interface is quick and fluid.The media control keys on the remote control work on my TV/PS5 and vice verse the TV media keys work on the Shield as well. Backlighted keys on remote control is a nice touch.Albeit the CEC from shield can control either the volume of the TV or the receiver, the remote control can imitate the infrared code of my TV to control the volume instead of CEC. It works on both this way no matter with sound output I have chosen on the TV. Nvidia is very thoughtful on this! Cons: Both my TV (Sony) and Nvidia run Google TV OS. It is a little bit confusing which one I am using sometimes. It would be nice that Nvidia put an optional custom theme on it.

Love the sleep feature that puts my monitor to off too (saving power if left on for over x mins), love the bluetooth audio output so I can listen in my headset at night, and top of all the remote (look, feel, responsive) and above all its not infrared, it uses bluetooth meaning the shield doesn’t have to be direct sight. Still trying to figure out gaming (have to create account on other sites though). Overall, love the product and definitely recommend. Cons: Haven’t been able to cast using Google Home or Youtube casting, it just won’t connect! It works when casting from Netflix or VLC player app on my Android phone.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe shield’s Android TV interface runs much faster than my smart TV’s embedded interface while allowing me access to the full library of Android TV compatible services rather than the limited set available on the smart TV. The remote’s interface is simple and easy to use. Unhelpfully, NVIDIA provides no way to remap the gigantic Netflix button in their software, but this can be done by 3rd party apps. The remote can also be located via the Find My Remote command, a feature that I sure wish my other remotes had when they get lost in the couch! While the Shield was unable to control my TV’s volume by CEC (it could do power state via CEC though) the remote also supports IR commands and was thus able to essentially completely replace my existing TV remote. I was worried that by adding this device to my setup that I’d wind up having to juggle two remotes, but for nearly all activities, the SHIELD remote alone has done what I need it to do. The biggest negative I have is that the voice assistant feature on it seems somewhat unreliable. If I use the voice assistant in the SHIELD to ask Google Assistant to turn off the TV in X minutes, the assistant errors out. If I instead ask my Google Home to tell the SHIELD to do the same action, it happily complies. I find it rather silly that the SHIELD’s voice assistant features are less compatible with itself than other voice assistants are with the SHIELD. Overall the small disadvantages with the product do not significantly reduce the value of replacing the “Smart” features of the TV with something that actually works well. I’m glad I made this purchase and feel that this is a good value for the money.

Great streaming for non-apple users, but if you are buying this for the purpose of playing games, I’d say look towards the Steam Deck and the impending SteamOS 3 release instead. First: Streaming. The streaming tools on this are awesome. The support for Dolby Vision is rare to find on many other devices if you’re running through plex, and it is for all intents and purposes an android device with all the joys and pains that brings. I’ve enjoyed the experience overall. This is perhaps the best device you can buy for Plex streaming. If all you want is simple access to your Netflix/Hulu/Disney+, I’d go for something cheaper though. The remote is pretty comfortable despite it’s weird shape, and although it definitely stops it from rolling, I don’t think it truly helps with any real couch cushion wedging, in fact I think it might give it an easier time. The backlight on the remote is a really nice touch though, and something that I think a lot of other devices could learn from. For Gaming: This thing presented the potential silver bullet to my home gaming setup. I have a PS4 and a Switch, but it feels like a waste to buy a game on either for double or sometimes triple the cost to get that same game on steam. I would love to say that this did it, but it unfortunately did not. Firstly: Graphics cards. The hardware acceleration relies on NVENC on your graphics card, which means immediately AMD is out of the picture — obvious enough, this is an NVidia product. However, the added caveat is that this feature is not turned on unless you use NVidia’s official game streaming app, and that is limited to a number of games that are ‘Nvidia approved’. Thankfully, there is a community-made tool called Moonlight that lets you stream your games straight from Steam — boom, problem solved. Right? Not exactly. The problems that the Nvidia Shield has for game streaming are the same problems that PC gaming has struggled with for a long time — a lot of troubleshooting between devices. I can even deal with that, it’s not their fault, but what I can’t put up with is the total pitfalls they make in user experience. The technical points are perfect — the technology is quite frankly shockingly good. However, the most basic UX experiences have been shirked, here’s a few highlights: Controllers won’t auto-shutoff when you connect them. You can leave a PS4 controller on all night and run down it’s battery completely. Steam is smart enough now to have controller mappings for all of the many brands of controllers, but using Moonlight or Nvidia Games streaming wraps it with an XInput wrapper, so all devices appear to be an Xbox controller. This used to be crucial to compatibility, but these days it just makes it kind of a headache sometimes when stuff doesn’t get mapped right. The Steam Link app CAN map the controllers correctly (and work with a Steam Controller if you happen to have one of those), but it doesn’t get access to the “secret sauce”. Therefore, the quality is lower, and it caps at 1080p. If you have a multi-monitor setup, sometimes it can pick the wrong one. No problem, go shut it off, it works. If you just close the application and get up and walk away, it won’t shut down the streaming. When streaming, NVidia hijacks your sound, and won’t let you change it until you close. All-in-all, it is close. Annoyingly close. I can see the ideal of PC game streaming in my house so near, but they fumble it on some total basics so badly it makes it kind of an awful experience. For my part, I’m waiting for my Steam Deck to arrive. I think that with it’s improved controller support, and it’s ability to run some games locally, it will be the ‘bridge’ between the living room and my office I’ve been looking for.

IšverstiShow in original languageAs a streaming device this is very good, but there are some issues with streaming PC games that need to be worked out. The biggest issue is that I have a lot of problems getting disconnected from the PC in the middle of a game when using the GameStream application. I can usually reconnect in 30 seconds or so, but nobody wants to spend 30 seconds reconnecting mid gameplay especially if you are playing online. This only happens with the GameStream app however, the Steam Link app works great and I never get disconnected from that. When game streaming does work properly it works great with excellent frame rates and graphical fidelity. I can stream in 4k or 1440p and get the same framerates I do when playing directly on my PC. One issue I will note however is that I can’t stream games in HDR as my computer monitor does not support HDR yet my TV does, unfortunately the PC sees my monitor doesn’t support it and greys out the option so I can’t use it even though the actual screen I am playing on does have HDR. I do have 4k support on my monitor so I am able to stream in 4k, but while I haven’t tested it I suspect people who don’t have 4k will be limited to streaming at their monitor’s max resolution rather than the television’s max resolution. That said there is still a lot to like about this device, as a streaming device the AI upscaling makes it one of the best, if not the best, streaming device on the market. Overall it is a very good device, but if you do plan to use it to stream PC games be aware that there are some very frustrating bugs associated with that technology if you are playing anything that is not on Steam.

IšverstiShow in original languageNach über 12 Jahren gute Erfahrung mit DigitalDevices, wollte ich mal Happauge in den Server einsetzen. Leider erwies sich dieser als Fehlkauf. Weder in einer SuperMicro noch IBM Server lässt sich die Karte mit DVB-Streamer abspielen. Beim SuperMicro ist nach einigen Sekunden schluss mit dem Stream, IBM startet mit NMI immer wieder neu. Tests stehen noch an beim HPE Servern, aber bin jetzt schon bereits start enttäuscht. A few days later I set it to record a movie and when I came to watch it a few days later it was unwatchable with pixelation throughout. This aerial gives 100% perfect picture with no error on my tv’s. Anyway I started again following haupages instructions to the letter and I jave now tried this at least 4 times with the same result every time. Unwatchable tv from an aerial that delivers perfect picture to my tv’s. Really, absolute rubbish and I waited 6 months for delivery.

I bought it to replace a dual-tuner card in my desktop PC that I use as a media center PC (running Windows Media Center under Win7). After plugging the card into a free PCI-e slot and powering up the PC, Windows 7 did not recognize the card by itself. But installing the drivers downloaded from the Hauppauge website fixed that problem. After that, everything installed smoothly; the Hauppauge drivers were accepted by Win7 without protest, and WMC detected and installed the quad-card just fine. (after installing the card and drivers, you just run TV setup again from within WMC; it will find all four tuners) The signal sensitivity of the quad card is very good, even slightly better than my HD Homerun tuners. I also tested this quad tuner card under windows 10 (I have a dual-boot Win7/Win10 installation on my PC) using Hauppauge’s WinTV 8.5 application, downloadable from their site (the installation key comes included with the card). THAT turned out to be a huge disappointment though. WinTV has a terrible user interface, and channel changes move at a snail’s pace (where under WMC it changes really fast so that is not a hardware issue but a WinTV app issue). But what was worst, the WinTV app crashed on several occasions. It seems Hauppauge is a good hardware design company but software is not their thing. Still I give the card a 5-star review though, because I bought it to work with Windows7 WMC which it does perfect. I don’t care about Hauppauge’s WinTV ap, so that part is irrelevant to me. So if you buy this card, use it with Windows 7 running Windows Media Center. To my opinion, WMC is still the best OTA TV/DVR app that is out there, even after almost 10 years.

Changing channels and you get dead time for about 3-4 seconds. Guide is slow…. If works… If you get one for low bucks, its ok. But prices are close to a BOLT and its only issue is heat. And that can be resolved with adding a fan under it.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is my 3rd or 4th TiVo and is the 2nd High-Definition TiVo that I have owned, the first HD unit being a Series 3 TiVo. The picture quality on this unit is excellent, the fact that it has 6 tuners is the best thing about it to me. I use a TiVo Mini to watch television in another room, that takes up one of the 6 tuners, but I still have 5 left for use in simultaneous TV show recording. With my old 4-tuner Series 3 TiVo there were times when I would get up in the morning and all the tuners were busy recording shows so I couldn’t watch the morning news because there was no available tuner for the TiVO Mini. That never happens with this unit. Hookup was easy. Once I installed the cable card, Comcast was able to activate it over the phone without a technician coming out. Every now and then it loses the signal between the TiVo and the TiVo Mini, and I have to re-boot both units to get them working again. Happens maybe every couple months or so. That is the only frustrating thing about it, everything else works well. I can stream shows to my Android phone from this unit when I am out of town or at work, this TiVo has built-in streaming so I didn’t need my separate TiVo Stream box anymore (sold it on eBay along with the Series 3 TiVo.) It has a huge hard drive and even after owning it for a few months and recording several episodes of dozens of different TV shows, the drive is maybe 40% full and it kind of hangs around that range because I have it keep the most recent 10 or 25 episodes of TV shows instead of keeping everything. I was able to keep my old TiVo hooked up to my network at the same time this new TiVo was hooked up, and used the TiVo web site to transfer shows from my old TiVo to the new unit, so I didn’t lose my saved shows. TiVo customer service was great at helping explain how to do that. I can use the TiVo phone app to schedule shows and the online TiVo site to manage the TiVo, and I can watch TV shows from this unit on my phone or tablet anywhere when I am traveling, as long as I have a good (fast) internet connection in the hotel. Customer Service at TiVo has been great to work with and has always responded quickly to e-mails I have sent in, and been friendly on the phone. I would recommend one of these units!

I was comparing the Firestick Max vs. 2021 Fire Cube and, based on the Quad-core processor specs, I opted for the Fire Cube. I expect it to prolong the life of the device when future firmware updates arrive. I already learned my lesson, since my 2018 Firestick HD is slow and glitchy now, despite reformatting the device. My 2019 Fire Cube is still fast, despite being two years old. The Fire Cube has a fast interface, despite the home page being bloated with Amazon content. The 2021 (2nd gen) Cube has the 3rd gen remote. I like the option to use the ethernet cable. Sehr positiv zu bewerten ist auch der grosse Funktionsumfang (Prozessorleistung, Bildeinstellungen, Toneinstellungen, Sprachsteuerung). Was jedoch zu erwähnen ist, dass die fest installierte Prime Video App (bei Startseite immer aktiv), auch mit bestehendem Abo, in der Schweiz nicht funktioniert! Problem ist, dass die die App auf Inhalt von Deutschland zugreift. Musste nun über Umweg (Aptoide TV App) nochmals separat die Prime Video App herunterladen und mit meinem Account anmelden. So habe ichs dann zum Laufen gebracht. Leider lässt sich die vorinstallierte App nicht deinstallieren, so werden mir nun ständig auf der Startseite neue Filme und Serien vorgestellt, die ich jedoch nicht abspielen kann. Es wäre nützlich, wenn Digitec wegen dieser Problematik einen Hinweis bei der Beschreibung hinzufügen würde. Ansonsten wirklich sehr zufrieden mit dem Gerät.

There are cases where it is necessary to use a TV tuner on a computer instead of finding a floating TV elsewhere. The small omnidirectional antenna and coaxial connection can be finicky and are not suited for usage with a window with wind. Having said that, it works perfectly perched on the other side of the window, and the included software and code have DVR-like capabilities. The short USB cable extension is also useful when necessary. It would be cool if the group could make a Mac-friendly version of the software, but everything is working as advertised.

I wanted to receive off-air TV on my laptop and chose this product because of the reviews and because I like the dual tuner capability, i.e. to receive two channels at once. It is a little disappointing to be a USB 2.0 connection however in the USA there does not appear to be many alternatives to this product with extensive reviews and it is because of the reviews I made the final decision to purchase this product. Fortunately, so far it has lived up to its reviews and its advertised tech specs and operational ability. It installed easily enough although the remote control is somewhat flaky with a delay that takes getting used to but seems to work. The little antenna did as well as the leaf antenna hooked up to a Vizio TV sitting right next to the laptop at the same time. I put ABC on the TV and CBS and NBC on the laptop and watched all three at once and then disconnected this item and packed for travel. I did not try any recording nor go deeper to check out the software and program guide features. Reception is what I am interested in and so I did attach the leaf antenna from the TV to the unit and saw it made no reception difference better than the included little antenna and that is good enough for me. I am running this on a Lenovo T460 quad core i7-6600U CPU w 16gb RAM 64-bit win 10 pro OS.

Works surprising well with a Raspberry Pi 4. The only thing that didn’t work was the included IR remote — it requires a Windows 10 USB driver for it to work. But you can easily control the tuner with a wireless mouse instead. I should note the official Raspberry Pi TV tuner does not do ATSC TV channels which is what TV stations in the USA broadcast. This USB tuner does do ATSC. No special software downloads. All you need is in the Raspberry Pi repositories. Jump to the command line an execute: sudo apt install kaffeine And that is it for software installation. Then go to the Pi Sound

I am not sure how much space that used, but was a lot more than some reviewers were claiming. I have to think they were just making uneducated guesses. I bought a much larger drive though, in case I want to record a lot! The tuner actually pulls in better than my top of the line TV that starts with an L and ends with a G. 😉 If it lasts 6 months I will buy another at this price! I have no reason to think it won’t last a few years though. It apears to be made pretty solid. It is up to par with any other item you buy now days. It isn’t flimsy like other things I have bought cheap. Picture is better using HDMI of course, but I used the loop-through and can chose to bypass the unit and watch my antenna TV on TV input as before. I switch to HDMI input to use the box and watch my recordings. I don’t see how you can go wrong at this price. Considering the name brand DVR’s start around 4 to 6 times higher, then some charge you for the EPG guide, (This one doesn’t), I would have to go through a LOT of these units for it to not be a much better value! You have to factor in cost along with quality. So far this seems to be pretty good quality on top of the super low price!

IšverstiShow in original languageWe are cutting the cord on cable and sat TV. After putting up a HD antenna, I found one of our older flat screens was analog and couldn’t get the signal. I bought one of these and it works perfect. I realized that with an added usb flash or hard drive, I could record over the air programs just like a DVR. I bought 3 more and use them as dedicated DVR’s for the networks. With a cheap online provider we now get all the channels and shows we like at 1/4 the cost and no equipment rental. How much you can record at once is dependent on the size of the hard drive. It uses about 6 Gb per hour of recording. The box comes with multiple output connections and the usb port is conveniently positioned on the front of the box. The built in guide makes planning which shows to record so easy. The only problem I’ve found is if you try to scan through the guide to quickly, it will lock up and then needs to be rebooted. Also, when setting up to record, instead of going to the guide, finding your show, and hitting the record button, you have to input the start and stop time using the number pad on the remote. The setup is super easy and it was able to pull in every channel available in our area. The picture is great and I am very happy with my setup.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is a cool little DVR for broadcast TV in your area. The tuner is pretty sensitive and picked up stations from my own town and one about 50 miles away. This is driven mostly by the antenna but the one I’m using is the size of a book and indoors so it works pretty well. All the stuff I read about these said add a flash drive so that you have something to record to. — I suspected a usb hard drive world work and it does. I hooked up a WD 1TB hard drive and it works just fine. I chose this drive because it was cheap. With 1TB of space I could have many many hours of recorded video stored. — The command structure of this system takes a little getting used to as there are a ton of buttons on the remote and not all commands are straight forward. With a little work the on screen prompts will get you there but you might make some wrong turns on the journey. — To record a show just scroll thru the guide Digital broadcast TV provides and select the show(s) you want recorded. Remember this has one tuner so you can only record 1 show at a time. You can pick the shows, times and any of your channels as long as they don’t conflict. Set them up and when you come back they will be there waiting to be watched. — Playback is easy. Press the USB button and scroll thru a list ofdates of the programs. You can rename them but they are stored only by date. — Video recorded plays back in a very clear format. In some cases it seemed better than the original broadcast but at the very least you don’t lose anything in the translation. — If you need a small DVR for off air broadcast in your area you won’t go wrong with this unit. It works as advertised and the seller got it delivered to me in a very fast way.

IšverstiShow in original languageBailed on Direct TV couple months ago. The only thing I truly missed was the DVR feature. We all stream what we want now so, watch your favorite stuff whenever. Streaming does not cover any broadcast shows unless you subscribe to all the various services. I may only watch 1 or 2 shows on any given broadcast network so now I can record them when I know I may be gone at that time. I used an old Samsung 128GB SSD with an adapter plugged directly into the Tablo with no issues at all. The Tablo gives you a trial tv guide for 30 days and after that you have to pay for that feature. Their web site charges 4.99 a month for the guide service or 49.95 for an annual subscription. (2 months free vs. monthly). With the guide service you may schedule entire prime time shows or special events in advance. Without the guide you can still schedule shows by setting time and channel number manually. In closing this device costs less than one month of a cable or satellite service so it was a “No Brain-er” for me. Hope this info is helpful for anyone interested in this item.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe Tablo functions very well, BUT you must have an antenna suitable for your location and have it pointed in the direction of the transmitters, ALSO you must use a fully functional USB hard drive if you intend to pause and playback programs, as well as skipping commercials. Those features are the primary idea behind having a DVR versus viewing directly from an antenna. After you’ve used a properly functioning DVR it’s unlikely that you’ll ever go back to live over-the-air television. The Tablo fills the bill. The Dual Lite is a network DVR meaning that you can use it over wired Ethernet connections or Wi-Fi but there is no HDMI port to connect directly to a television set. We use laptops to receive the signal and have HDMI cables from the laptop to a HDTV, or you can just view programming directly on a laptop or a tablet if you prefer. My Tablo is connected directly to my Wi-Fi router with an Ethernet jumper. I know about the pitfalls because I tried using a 64GB USB thumb drive and that was a big fail. Thumb drives are not intended for fast rewriting and they stall badly. When I plugged in a USB hard disk it made a world of difference. An outdoor antenna is mandatory where I live and that combined with a quality amplified signal splitter gives us solid distortion free signals. Recording and playback performed fluidly from that point on. If you live close to the transmitters (<10 miles) you may be able to pick up what want with an indoor antenna. [>10. IšverstiShow in original languageI already have the WDBABX0000NBK version. It is easily the best media player available, and is rare in that it can stream from a share on a PC or from a NAS. Roku and many others cannot do that. It requires no product activation (unlike the Roku) so there is no danger of the manufacturer shutting it off permanently. You do have to watch which version of the WDTV you buy, though, as the newer ones have removed DVD support. It can be used as a "poor man's fileserver" if you hook a USB drive to it. It's better than any of the Ethernet enclosures I've tried, that's for sure. I like that you can play a DVD by navigating to the VOB file and hitting Play or Ok, but, if you just want to watch the main title (and skip the menus and other stuff), you navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder itself (but don't hit Ok to go in it) and hit Play. The recorder I used to make my movies automatically made menus, whether you wanted them or not, and it's great to skip them. Of course, how well this feature works depends on the way your DVD was encoded. My only real gripe is that it has a 10/100 Ethernet port and not gigabit. Also, it does not support Hulu very well. I suspect this due to Hulu's realignment in 2015, not the device. This may have been fixed in an updated firmware but I'm reluctant to upgrade. Lastly, and speaking of firmware, there is a free firmware (WikiDLXTV) that allows you to expand the device's capabilities, though I personally have no need for any of that. The official WD firmwares vary in quality: 1.06.06 works well. 1.05.04 is great, although you cannot rollback to it if your version is 1.06. Updating firmware is always risky, and to most casual users, probably not necessary or worth it.

Doesn’t have a bunch of unnecessary and fancy bull**** options. It’s very basic but still plays just about every format available except for the newest HEVC 265 format. Even the successor to this model wasn’t as good. I have had these for prolly ten years now and have bought them for a bunch of my friends (including this one). Do yourself a favor and buy one of these. Do NOT buy the junk CHINESE stuff that they’re selling, no matter how much fancy stuff they offer you. You do NOT need those features. ALL you need is something that will play everything you throw at it and this one does it with aplomb. Super, highly recommended. I have two sitting in my house right now that I use. Super

Coincidence? don’t know, but afterwards, the unit stopped working properly and the reset button did not keep the unit working. Following this experience, I would advise a buyer to purchase only a new one [although no longer available in the stores] – since you don’t/won’t know if/how the unit was used by previous buyer – and the actual working condition of the unit. Anyway, the other NEOTV device still works perfectly – but I won’t listen to live radio thru this unit – since, I guess, that it must use more internal memory than the unit has. I purchased a new NEOTV off of eBay, but when I received it, the box and plastic-wrap had been torn/opened – so I returned it without trying out the unit [since it was not NEW]. Overall, other than playing live radio/app through the unit, I strongly suggest the NEOTV Streaming Device. I watch NETFLIX mostly with this unit. It even works well with my AT&T DSL service via my wireless router. It is EASY TO SET UP, EASY TO USE, DEPENDABLE, and PERFORMS WELL.

The Google Chromecast missed that option and thats why I opted for this NetGear model, which supports a wired or wireless connectivity. The WiFi supports only 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4Ghz and no .ac on 5GHz. Video streaming plays smoothly though, with some buffering of maybe 5 seconds twice, during a whole movie. All preloaded video apps works, where 75% requires some sort of service subscription (Netflix, Hulu, ). The Flickr photo app does NOT work at all while Google Picasa goes well. The SL model comes with an IR remote with a small QWERTY keyboard at the back. Very useful for doing search on YouTube, while it’s not really a replacement for web browsing (for that use your smart phone). My NeoTv SL is connected to an LED monitor through HDMI and video quality is excellent for what I have, and the small investment in a screen and video source (good option for the bedroom). Be aware that it does not support the full load of codecs out there and I dont think any device does anyway. Depending on the .MKV compression, some files will run only the video with no audio. The device is worth the money but is not the alternative for a really good home cinema system (Ex. Sony).

I have Ubuntu 20.04 and the TV tuner works good, utilizing the video app “Kaffeine”. It’s supposed to work with VLC media player, but I haven’t had any luck with that. Hauppauge has a Linux support page with detailed instructions on how to install the necessary programming for the TV tuner to work. I’m not sure if it will work with other Linux distributions like Debian, Fedora, etc. It might. You would have to try it out, maybe with a live USB operating system with “Kaffeine” pre-installed. It should work with Pop!OS, because Pop!OS is Ubuntu 20.04, but with a different desktop environment. It also works with Windows 10, utilizing Hauppauge’s WinTV app, which is free with purchase. The small antenna provided with the TV tuner is okay if you are close to television broadcast towers. I’m not, so I bought an RCA amplified, indoor digital TV antenna from Walmart (~$30). Has a 50 mile range and picks up 61 television stations from 30 miles away. I gave it four stars because the remote control doesn’t work properly. I can change the volume, but not channels with it. When I pressed the red power button on the remote, my laptop’s screen went blank and I couldn’t get the screen back on without forcing the computer to shut down.

Does get a bit warm while in use. Pulls a few watts. Seems pretty sensitive. Picked up a few new stations that I wasn’t aware of. I believe this was new, open box. Sure looked new. This model came with the antenna and the AV input dongle. Didn’t try them out, but assume they worked. I connected to my house antenna coax. Came with a real nice remote control. Unfortunately, getting it to work in Linux looked difficult, and I can do all that stuff with the Me-TV app anyway.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe shield’s Android TV interface runs much faster than my smart TV’s embedded interface while allowing me access to the full library of Android TV compatible services rather than the limited set available on the smart TV. The remote’s interface is simple and easy to use. Unhelpfully, NVIDIA provides no way to remap the gigantic Netflix button in their software, but this can be done by 3rd party apps. The remote can also be located via the Find My Remote command, a feature that I sure wish my other remotes had when they get lost in the couch! While the Shield was unable to control my TV’s volume by CEC (it could do power state via CEC though) the remote also supports IR commands and was thus able to essentially completely replace my existing TV remote. I was worried that by adding this device to my setup that I’d wind up having to juggle two remotes, but for nearly all activities, the SHIELD remote alone has done what I need it to do. The biggest negative I have is that the voice assistant feature on it seems somewhat unreliable. If I use the voice assistant in the SHIELD to ask Google Assistant to turn off the TV in X minutes, the assistant errors out. If I instead ask my Google Home to tell the SHIELD to do the same action, it happily complies. I find it rather silly that the SHIELD’s voice assistant features are less compatible with itself than other voice assistants are with the SHIELD. Overall the small disadvantages with the product do not significantly reduce the value of replacing the “Smart” features of the TV with something that actually works well. I’m glad I made this purchase and feel that this is a good value for the money.

Great streaming for non-apple users, but if you are buying this for the purpose of playing games, I’d say look towards the Steam Deck and the impending SteamOS 3 release instead. First: Streaming. The streaming tools on this are awesome. The support for Dolby Vision is rare to find on many other devices if you’re running through plex, and it is for all intents and purposes an android device with all the joys and pains that brings. I’ve enjoyed the experience overall. This is perhaps the best device you can buy for Plex streaming. If all you want is simple access to your Netflix/Hulu/Disney+, I’d go for something cheaper though. The remote is pretty comfortable despite it’s weird shape, and although it definitely stops it from rolling, I don’t think it truly helps with any real couch cushion wedging, in fact I think it might give it an easier time. The backlight on the remote is a really nice touch though, and something that I think a lot of other devices could learn from. For Gaming: This thing presented the potential silver bullet to my home gaming setup. I have a PS4 and a Switch, but it feels like a waste to buy a game on either for double or sometimes triple the cost to get that same game on steam. I would love to say that this did it, but it unfortunately did not. Firstly: Graphics cards. The hardware acceleration relies on NVENC on your graphics card, which means immediately AMD is out of the picture — obvious enough, this is an NVidia product. However, the added caveat is that this feature is not turned on unless you use NVidia’s official game streaming app, and that is limited to a number of games that are ‘Nvidia approved’. Thankfully, there is a community-made tool called Moonlight that lets you stream your games straight from Steam — boom, problem solved. Right? Not exactly. The problems that the Nvidia Shield has for game streaming are the same problems that PC gaming has struggled with for a long time — a lot of troubleshooting between devices. I can even deal with that, it’s not their fault, but what I can’t put up with is the total pitfalls they make in user experience. The technical points are perfect — the technology is quite frankly shockingly good. However, the most basic UX experiences have been shirked, here’s a few highlights: Controllers won’t auto-shutoff when you connect them. You can leave a PS4 controller on all night and run down it’s battery completely. Steam is smart enough now to have controller mappings for all of the many brands of controllers, but using Moonlight or Nvidia Games streaming wraps it with an XInput wrapper, so all devices appear to be an Xbox controller. This used to be crucial to compatibility, but these days it just makes it kind of a headache sometimes when stuff doesn’t get mapped right. The Steam Link app CAN map the controllers correctly (and work with a Steam Controller if you happen to have one of those), but it doesn’t get access to the “secret sauce”. Therefore, the quality is lower, and it caps at 1080p. If you have a multi-monitor setup, sometimes it can pick the wrong one. No problem, go shut it off, it works. If you just close the application and get up and walk away, it won’t shut down the streaming. When streaming, NVidia hijacks your sound, and won’t let you change it until you close. All-in-all, it is close. Annoyingly close. I can see the ideal of PC game streaming in my house so near, but they fumble it on some total basics so badly it makes it kind of an awful experience. For my part, I’m waiting for my Steam Deck to arrive. I think that with it’s improved controller support, and it’s ability to run some games locally, it will be the ‘bridge’ between the living room and my office I’ve been looking for.

IšverstiShow in original languageAs a streaming device this is very good, but there are some issues with streaming PC games that need to be worked out. The biggest issue is that I have a lot of problems getting disconnected from the PC in the middle of a game when using the GameStream application. I can usually reconnect in 30 seconds or so, but nobody wants to spend 30 seconds reconnecting mid gameplay especially if you are playing online. This only happens with the GameStream app however, the Steam Link app works great and I never get disconnected from that. When game streaming does work properly it works great with excellent frame rates and graphical fidelity. I can stream in 4k or 1440p and get the same framerates I do when playing directly on my PC. One issue I will note however is that I can’t stream games in HDR as my computer monitor does not support HDR yet my TV does, unfortunately the PC sees my monitor doesn’t support it and greys out the option so I can’t use it even though the actual screen I am playing on does have HDR. I do have 4k support on my monitor so I am able to stream in 4k, but while I haven’t tested it I suspect people who don’t have 4k will be limited to streaming at their monitor’s max resolution rather than the television’s max resolution. That said there is still a lot to like about this device, as a streaming device the AI upscaling makes it one of the best, if not the best, streaming device on the market. Overall it is a very good device, but if you do plan to use it to stream PC games be aware that there are some very frustrating bugs associated with that technology if you are playing anything that is not on Steam.

During setup I discovered it worked very poorly with my Philips 4K TV which is less than a year old. It would not enter sleep mode and had to be unplugged and restarted every time the TV was turned on. It then took about 40 minutes to restart until it would work properly. Also I was never able to get the settings right to make it work with HDMI-CEC (ARC) from the TV to home theatre and could only get basic sound to work with an optical cable. The best picture quality achieved was only 720p. In addition a large number of apps I wanted to use with it would not work with the Nvidia Shiled TV. The ProtonVPN , Disney+, CNN, CBC, CTV, Global apps as well as others would not work at all and crashed repeatedly. I contacted Nvidia tech support several times but they were unable to resolve any of the issues and made vague promises of future Android OS updates to address bugs. Due to these problems it was almost useless for my needs and I finally gave up and replaced it with an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, which has worked effortlessly from the start with all my apps, produces better video quality and functions very well with the TV and home theatre. The Nvidia Shield was and expensive waste of money and I can’t recommend it. After fighting with it for 2 months I was unable to return it as it was past 30 days and not technically a hardware defect.

There are numerous competitors that do almost the exact same thing but with a little bonus: they might actually turn on. I’ve had this device for less than 12 months. At first, all was well, and the video quality looked good and had wide compatibility. At first the Shield refused to turn on every now and then, possibly just to keep me on my toes. I could get around this with a hard reset: unplugging the power cable and waiting a ten count before rebooting. This worked intermittently for a few more months before the device simply bricked. It output no audio and no video, making it only suitable as an extremely expensive and poorly shaped doorstop. Merely figuring this out was itself a chore as the Shield has absolutely no external lights, indicators, or otherwise to communicate its status. Once I ruled out the cable (tested) and the TV (tested) only the Shield remained the problem. NVIDIA did send a replacement. This lasted all of 1 month (bringing the total number of months I got out of this $150 purchase to a whooping 10) before dying exactly like its predecessor. Perhaps not “exactly like,” as this 2.0 unit skipped the hard reset phase and went straight from operational to bricked. This is a completely unacceptable level of QC or build quality from a $150 product. NVIDIA could – and should – send another, but that would do little to mitigate the immense frustration of an extensive steaming box utterly failing at doing the single most basic tasks for which it was designed. Do not buy this. If you want to get the same experience, turn off your TV and look at the black screen. Burn $150 in a small pile next to you. There you have it.

Maybe fine for a turn-based game. The main reason I’m writing this review is that this thing is EXPENSIVE. Compared to rokus, firesticks, or other android TVs, this thing is just plain pricey, and what do you get for it? It is fast, loading stuff goes nice and quick. But the remote isn’t great, and it also lacks things like the ability to plug in headphones for private listening. A huge issue though, is are the ads. A third of the screen is taken up with ads for shows that I didn’t pick, on services I don’t have. NVIDIA claims this is all google’s doing, and they can’t do anything about it. My guess is that about 150 bucks from you isn’t enough, and they wanted an extra dollar from google ads. Either way, they’re not interested in fixing it, so it looks like that’s how it is from now on, just like how you’ve got a big branded NETFLIX button on your remote. Why? A buck from Netflix, I guess. If you simply must have “the best”, and are willing to devote a few hours to fixing it out of the box, go for it. If you’re hoping for the best streaming right out of the box, I’d buy a roku stick and wait for something better to come along.

E’ un ottimo prodotto se avete una connessione fibra (i giochi funzionano in streaming, serve molta banda) e se sapete smanettare un po’ (GeForce Now ancora in beta, quindi ogni tanto possono esserci inconvenienti da risolvere per installare i giochi o con gli aggiornamenti). In cambio avete una scelta di giochi molto ampia, con tantissimi titoli “importanti” gi inclusi gratis (per ora), Steam integrato ecc. ecc. E poi ha su android tv, quindi potete usare tutte le app che girano su android tv (netflix, ecc.). Se invece avete una connessione lenta, o se non sapete smanettare, lasciate stare.

It is the only gadget among set top boxes and smart TVs that allows Plex with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos supported.The user interface is quick and fluid.The media control keys on the remote control work on my TV/PS5 and vice verse the TV media keys work on the Shield as well. Backlighted keys on remote control is a nice touch.Albeit the CEC from shield can control either the volume of the TV or the receiver, the remote control can imitate the infrared code of my TV to control the volume instead of CEC. It works on both this way no matter with sound output I have chosen on the TV. Nvidia is very thoughtful on this! Cons: Both my TV (Sony) and Nvidia run Google TV OS. It is a little bit confusing which one I am using sometimes. It would be nice that Nvidia put an optional custom theme on it.

Love the sleep feature that puts my monitor to off too (saving power if left on for over x mins), love the bluetooth audio output so I can listen in my headset at night, and top of all the remote (look, feel, responsive) and above all its not infrared, it uses bluetooth meaning the shield doesn’t have to be direct sight. Still trying to figure out gaming (have to create account on other sites though). Overall, love the product and definitely recommend. Cons: Haven’t been able to cast using Google Home or Youtube casting, it just won’t connect! It works when casting from Netflix or VLC player app on my Android phone.
