This book has great appeal to investors who are prepared to spend a lot of time analysing their shares, and are not too worried about the tax implications. Australia’s capital tax system is different to the US and is a disincentive for speculators or short-term investors.

For longer term, more defensive investors, I would recommend reading The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham or Contrarian Investment Strategies by David Dreman.

This is not your average “quick and easy to make money in stocks” type of book. It is a text book for serious investors, and try as the author might, he can’t make it simple and light. if you are serious about investing in the stock markets this is the book for you.

Just be prepared to study this book and study hard you will. It will give you confidence about the right stocks to invest in, teaching you about everything you need to learn about the company’s finances and how to evaluate the stock and when and how to buy and sell.

The only negative issue I have is that there are not enough real companies from which the author draws his examples. Otherwise an excellent buy.

William O’neil’s book How To Make Money In Stocks is a must read for anyone who wants to learn how to win in the stock market. His famous CANSLIM system is the best way to analyze stocks and maximize profits in the market that I have ever found.

This famous CANSLIM approach to buying and selling stocks has yielded far superior results in stocks than the S&P average over the years. The system shows all the essentials of what to look for in purchasing stocks, when to buy, and when to sell.

No other system of stock picking is as simple and reliable as O’neil’s. It shows how to minimize risk and maximize profits using a time tested system developed by William O’neil founder of Investors Business Daily.

This book is a fantastic companion volume to Investors Business Daily. It explains all of the features of the famous newspaper which has helped millions of investors learn the stock market. The book guides the reader through the features which are unique to Investors Business daily such as the tables which show the leading industry groups, the wonderful stock charts, and the “big picture” which help decipher the overall market and where it is in its cycyle of highs and lows.

How To Make Money In Stocks and Investors Business Daily make an invaluable combination for anyone wanting to maximize gains in the financial markets. I know of no better teacher than William O’neil on the topic of financial markets.

His book and newspaper are worthwhile investments that are likely to boost your financial returns.

Will the methodology outlined in this book, CANSLIM C – Current Quarterly Earnings Per Share A – Annual Earnings Increases N – New Products, New Management, New Highs S – Supply and Demand L – Leader or Laggard I – Institutional Sponsorship M – Market Direction really work? Will it beat the market? Will it make me, you, a lot of money? I don’t know.

But it given this book is already on its third edition, it must have worked pretty work for some. The methodology is a comprehensive and systematic way of making money on the market. It may work well, but it’s not for the timid If you’re a professional who just wants to put some extra income to work, this may not be way as you’ll probably not have the time.

I have read alot of books on the stock market. This is the only book that shows you how to buy a stock and make money. If you follow what he tells you. I highly recommend this book. It does help if you know a little about the market but, it is not nessary.

I also recommend buying his news paper the Investors Business Daily he makes it real easy to track and pick stocks. If you are interested in making money this is the book.

This transaction was great. I would like to say something about H&R Block Tax SW though. I needed it to print my old 2012 H&R Block file(. T12 file). I didnt know you cant open old file with new SW. So you need to keep every years Tax program and re-install to open that years return.

Dumb H&R Block SW. Anyways, I reinstalled but couldnt open my file because it needs State tax program but they dont allow you free download State tax program. Dumber. I called H&R Block and luckily they had my registration info and emailed me state program.

It all worked but very very frustrating.

The H&R Block Software has a bug/limitation so that you are unable to e-file if you were given an Identity Protection PIN from the IRS. The IRS issued me (and 250,000 other people) an Identity Protection PIN to use when I submit my 2012 Tax Return.

The H&R Block Software allows you to enter this PIN and it is used to fill in the appropriate field on your 1040 Form, but it is not used when you attempt to e-file. On the Electronic Signature Requirements you have 3 options but none apply to submitting using the Identity Protection PIN.

Option 1. Yes – I have my 2011 AGI or PIN. (This option does not work because my 2011 AGI and PIN are compromised due to someone else submitting a 2001 return using my social security number. This is why the IRS sent me a Identity Protection PIN.

When I use this option the IRS rejects my Tax Return saying that the AGI or PIN does not match!) Option 2. Yes – I received an Electronic Filing PIN from the IRS. (Can’t use this option because the Electronic Filing PIN (5-digits) is different from the Identity Protection PIN (6 digits).

Option 3. No – I need to print and mail my return. (My only option at this point. ) Their solution was to request an Electronic Filing PIN from the IRS website. The trouble is, if you were a victim of Identity Theft you are not eligible to request one, because the IRS already sent you a special Identity Protection PIN to use.

H&R Block you have a BUG in your software. If your were a victim of Identity Theft and received an Identity Protection PIN from the IRS to use when e-filing, then you better find a Tax Software product that supports it, because H&R Block At Home does NOT.

The H & R Tax Program for Trusts and Estates has never been ideal, but for dax year 2016 it was especially bad. It would throw out figures that were not typed in, I was unable to update the program, I was unable to download the State of CA program, even though paid for.

I tried 3 different Computers and wound up having to give the entire project to my Tax Advisor. In previous years, I had to do many manual corrections, but for the 2016 Tax Year, H & R Block outdid themselves.

Unfortunately, Turbotax is only slightly better but much more expensive. A waste of money and more waste of precious time.

Simplest return? Then you are fine but the Software does allow you to make mistakes. often chooses or unchecks boxes that you have already dealt with earlier and why it teases you with a larger return than you end up getting once you have to tell it (yet again) that you are married (after you have already entered marital status at the beginning of the return is beyond me.

I believe marital status is brought up a couple of times before getting to the infamous “Canada Workers Benefit”. It tells you there is no harm in claiming it even though you have already reduced your taxes payable or increased your return by the mystery $1395 “Other Credit” I had no clue about much earlier in the return so I claimed and it reduced my return by $1200.

No harm? lol. Or if you skip it forces you to correct via the Error message before you file. I just think the handling of a few things within this software over the years allows you to make mistakes or misleads you a bit.

Medical receipts for example. I have always claimed on wife’s higher income return and refund goes up but at some point if you allow the software to perform the “optimization” of medical expenses it automatically assumes you want the claim on the lower income Spouse and returns the claim to lower income spouse even though much earlier you chose the higher income spouse to maximize the refund amount as you went along.

Why the software doesn’t detect that you have already accomplished a legitimate increase in the refund amount earlier by claiming in this way is another mystery. If not caught after optimization your refund is decreased by the software and you might be non the wiser (or scratching your head as to wear a few hundred bucks just went).

You do have to fiddle with certain credits and who claims them with “trial runs”. the software will allow you to hurt your own return if your not careful. Another more recent question that had me scratching my head was the warning about the Climate Action Incentive credit, asking you to confirm that you lived outside a Census Metropolitan area? I never claimed I did, I do not.

so that is why the checkbox was left unchecked earlier yet in the review it seems to be directing you to check the box? What am I missing here? I could go on about strange “glitchy-like” happenings and handling “brain farts” in a few small areas of this software over the years that at least leaves the amateur tax person scratching their heads in confusion and leaves a few things unclear or questionable for such a person and they definitely don’t leave you feeling so foolproof using this software.

I’m sure some pro “mathletes” programmed the software to make flawless calculations and it may do that well but there is no “human factor” transferred by the humans that made the software and that leaves a larger than acceptable margin for your own human error that may just net you a more horrible refund or have you owing unnecessarily.

I’m hiring a professional from here on out. if your return is more difficult or you have a business steer clear. I paid well over $60 after taxes just to ask a question and had someone join me on screen mirroring to answer.

I assumed it would be an entire return review as the option suggested. What a HUGE Rip off.

Went through a divorce and found out that my X trashed my credit. In December when I took back my financial life, I was ruined. I discovered my FICO score was at 533, all account was late, over limit, mostly charge offs.

Okay. I have used turbo tax since 2009. i have a family of 5. One w2, 3 children no assets so what I’m trying to say is that I’ve always done my taxes myself and it was super easy and convenient that I would have all the same info from the previous year right? Well long story short something happened this year that I’m still not even clear on.

i always get a good amount and obviously look forward to tax season. I entered a my info and it said I owed $10,000 I was freaking out. I tried multiple times to speak with a “tax expert” I basically did not get any help at all they just said sorry and kept repeating themselves.

I decided to try cash app taxes and it was the best decision I’ve made in awhile and it’s 100% FREE. It was so simple, stress free and they back you up if your audited. I ended up getting the same amount I’m used to getting and didnt need to go through all that anxiety!! I have already highly recommended cash app to all my friends however, I could not find cash app taxes on influencer to write a review on them.

Anyway use them, you won’t regret it.

Quicken for Mac is one of the more comprehensive personal finance apps available but if you’re transitioning from the Windows version, you may be disappointed as the Mac version is less robust in terms of features and friendliness of the user interface.

The user is likely to feel that the Mac version is less intuitive than the Windows version. So, it’s essential that you understand your personal use case and select the Windows or Mac version on that basis.

If you’ve already transitioned to a Mac and need the features offered by the Windows version, you’ll need to run an emulator and opt for the Windows version. It’s not inexpensive. For a few years and since being acquired by a PE firm, the cost of ownership has increased.

Like most software these days, Quicken is subscription based with versions ranging from $42 to $72 per year. At the end of that year, the company prevents you from downloading data directly from your financial institutions.

Further, the system prevents you from importing data to the program. You’re left with a crippled app which allows you manually input every transaction, something I don’t recommend if you value your time.

The most notable changes from the 2020 version were that which related to speed of the app. including: • Faster start-up • Faster loading of charts and graphs • Faster backups One of the more annoying shortcomings is the apps inability to handle warrants and stock options.

If you receive either, the software doesn’t track expiry dates, exercise prices and, eventually, the cost basis of an exercise. You’ll have to track those securities on an Excel spreadsheet.

I wish that when you manually rearrange the order of transactions within the desktop version, as I do so they match the order arrangement in my financial institutions of having cleared, that when you opened the app they would be arranged to match the same arrangement order after syncing.

I love how the desktop and app versions sync, but I wish the app was as fully functional, capable, and independent as the desktop version while still being able to fully sync with each other. The one thing I hate is how Quicken reconciles lines of credit like the amount of credit used is a positive balance when reconciling.

It is borrowed money, and should reconcile like the negative balance that it truly is in reality! As a product with an annual subscription, it should renew at 50% less than its current renewal rate. Maybe after 2 years of being a loyal customer even 70% less than its current renewal rate.

That is not a reflection of the value of the product, but rather the value of customer happiness and desire for customer retention for Quicken. Other than that, I love Quicken! It has become an invaluable asset to managing my finances! Other than these things I wish Quicken would do to improve their product, it is an amazing product, and I have not seen another to serve my needs as well.

I have used and purchased many upgrades of Quicken since 1992 and love Quicken except their latest subscription policy. I PURCHASED the last 2019 Deluxe version and although it states that I can continue to use it by downloading the latest version before my subscription expires it became unusable after many attempts to follow their instructions.

I wasted over two hours and multiple attempts on the help line to restore a usable version with no success. I do not need or want upgrades as I am a senior citizen and do not do online banking and just use quicken for my checking account and savings accounts.

The tech support could only make my PURCHASED Quicken program operational if I paid them for a yearly subscription fee which they would not even honor the 40% discount that they emailed me to renew my account but instead gave me a token 20% discount.

It looks like I am forced into a yearly subscription fee even though when I purchased my 2019 CD version it was not a subscription but a purchased version. I am on Social Security and do not have this newly enacted subscription fee in my budget and at my age I do not want to learn a new program and loose thirty years of Quicken records.

I am extremely disappointed with Quicken and their lack of ability of their help line to fix an issue that they specifically say can be used without paying a yearly fee. Jim C.

If you have used TurboTax or any of other tax return software, you know why you should keep using it. These applications take a lot of the sting out of preparing taxes and do a lot of hand holding for most of the more complex portions and forms.

If you don’t find this software more advantageous to use than slogging through the IRS publications, then either are a tax expert already or your return is so complex that only an expert can help you.

I have tried other brands of this type of software, but return to TurboTax. Maybe it’s just a personal preference, or the familiarity. Certainly not the cost, since you can either qualify for one of the free versions, or TurboTax has a tendency to rope you in for the more expensive editions.

I specifically bought this year’s version because I had to do an Amended return (both Federal and State). If you’ve never done either one of these, I don’t recommend you go it alone with the IRS publications, which were written by neither an English teacher nor a mathematician, but the worst amalgam of both.

I got it at a great price on eBay, but would very likely have paid the full price if necessary.

OK so I don’t often write reviews but I will make an exemption in this case. For the most part Turbotax ran fine however I did come up with one issue that was well maddening. I did the taxes of my wife and she had to do her 2019 tax as well.

That is fine and the program tells you to do prior years first, simple enough. So that is what I did, I saw nothing to change the tax year but had prompted for 2019. It wasn’t till I finished that return and printed it out and netfiled it that it showed as her 2020 return.

Well she had some extra monies from the 2019 return but not the 2020 and then I had to redo her proper 2020 return but could find no way to change her 2019 return so had wasted 2 hours doing her returns and since both have been filed to beat the deadline I have no idea what is going to happen as CRA will have 2 returns for her 2020.

Hopefully someone at the CRA will note that the figures used are from her 2019 separate but that is my review and why I only gave a 3 out of 5 for the program. If it is going to tell you to enter prior years then it should be able to identify the prior years.

I have used the product for many years. Each year it gets a little harder to use and harder to find answers to questions on use. It also requires re-entry of information which is redundant because it can and does load info from prior year (most of the time).

Although the marketing material has a lot of hype – this product is depending heavily on users to provide support to others (cuts their support costs) and in addition wants you to use FAQ and Search on message boards – which contain many years worth of questions – many of which are no longer applicable or relevant – adding to the loss of validity for that as a useful vehicle.

That said – so far – it works – and I will use it again. If you are a first time user, I suggest you try a couple of these products (from other than Intuit) and compare how they work and if they fit you.

One of the best features of this product is that it allows you to jump to the real forms – which is very important given the lack of info in the guided Q and A they use to complete the return. many times we have had to read the forms and read IRS docs to get to the right answer inside this program.

If you have VERY simple returns and are very main stream and center of the road – this tool is great. We use the home and business version because several of us do 1099NEC work, some investments and other tax impactful activities.

Bought the Turbotax Premier State 2021 PC/Mac Download and received the WalMart eDelivery links fairly quickly, within an hour of purchase, so initially happy with purchase. About 3 or 4 days after purchase, I finally got time to download the program from the link, install to PC, then enter the License Code.

LICENSE CODE NO LONGER VALID!!! Wasted half of the day I made available to work on my taxes on the phone trying to get this rectified. The Intuit technical support was very helpful, but had virtually none of the purchase information to cross reference for purchase verification, such as the WalMart order number, the vender HiTech Products LLC info, and needed some gmail account info (supposedly attached to the vender), which I don’t even have! This turned out to be a major headache!!! Why have the support numbers to call if you don’t share the info for support to make a verification of purchase???.

and why do you supply a License Code that’s NO LONGER VALID??? The one thing Intuit was able to verify quickly was that that license code hadn’t been valid for quite a while and was wondering why it was sent with such a recent purchase.

Product purchased on the evening of April 13, 2022 and License Code shown to be invalid on the morning of April 18, 2022 when first applied. 1 out of 5 stars because it wouldn’t allow a 0 out of 5 stars!!!.

I bought this because the description stated it could import up to 10,000 stock transactions. It also stated it could handle installment payments and other complex situations. However, I found the software to be less intuitive than the H&R Block software I used in the past.

Plus, it could NOT import all of my stock transactions (I didn’t have more than 10,000). They offer an online version which you don’t pay for until you finalize. However, I got suckered into buying the desktop version because the import function is limited online.

At the end of the day, I wasted $85 on a piece of software that I didn’t even use to submit my final tax return. And there is no guarantee (in terms of finding it a good package).

This is a Super EASY program to use. I worked for H & R Block for 13 years. I did my taxes at home using their Deluxe Tax Program before I went to work for them and continued to use it even though I could have done my taxes at the office at no cost.

I had depreciation and it was just easier to keep filing them from my computer. The program transfers all your prior years information from their program or even some other tax programs over to the current year.

It is super easy to follow step by step to complete your taxes. The program asks you questions which you answer and it takes the answers to the proper forms. After you have completed answering all the questions, the program takes you to a check screen where it checks all your answers and asks additional questions to clairfy your answers.

This helps to prevent errors and maybe a Tax Audit. You can e-file your Federal and State returns over the computer. The program notifies you when the Federal and State returns have been accepted by the IRS and the State.

This is a super Easy, Fast and Inexpensive way to do your taxes. If you should get audited, you have the option of Audit Support from a tax professional. Since I have retired from H & R Block, I continue to use their program.

There is an Accurate Calculations Guarantee and a Maximum Refund Guarantee. Anyone who can use a computer can use this program. How Easy is that?? I absolutely recommend this program. Ease of Use User friendly Customer Service Good Features All you need.

Phone App Availability Never had to use.

For someone who does not know much about taxes, we were excited to use H&R Block at Home. I found that taxes was as simple as filling out the form, and having all your papers right there in front of you–filing taxes was a breeze.

I love the features on it, you can see the amount you owe or expect as you fill in those blank spaces. I found it to be convenient, because I do not have the time to meddle with filling out paper work by hand and mailing it in.

I also have to do my own calculations, which is not hard, but I love that H&R Block does most of the mathematical work for me. My husband and i found it easy to use, and we were able to send everything in electronically, so no snail mail needed! I like that! H&R Block also offers their customers worry free audit help.

I do not have the need to worry about dealing with the IRS alone, if ever the case comes. I have someone to back me up, I am glad it will be a big company like H&R–with a good reputation and a name that I trust.

Have used HR Block tax software for years but decided to skip it this year because there was no CD version -> have to download it from internet. My concern was: what if there was a problem with my computer and I needed to reload it.

That would cost extra this year. I thus bought turbo tax and have unfortunately found it unreliable. On a page of info regarding annual required minimum distributions, the tax advice was simply and clearly wrong (I double checked with the IRS website).

There’s a spot on the return to authorize a third party to communicate with the irs about one’s tax return. Great idea, except that turbo tax never addressed that matter in going through their “comprehensive” questionnaire format.

I only noticed this now blank space once a tax return was printed. (3) Turbo tax claims that it can import most important info from last year’s tax return from a number of publishers, including HR Block.

Well, it wasn’t able to recognize or import my info from last year’s HR Block-prepared return. The last two matters were mere inconveniences, but the fact that it gave clearly false information about a significant irs topic led me to wonder what else in their “advice” or calculations is based on wrong information.

I’d rather incur a small extra fee from HR Block than a potentially bigger penalty from irs. Caveat emptor.

If you’re filing as a Massachusetts resident, do not bother purchasing the unit which includes the state filing module. Buy the federal only because the state is riddled with mistakes. (Editorial Note: I last tried to use the state module 3 filings ago – maybe it has been improved).

This year while preparing the federal module, I thought I was finished until I pulled up a preview screen and found one of my completed schedules marked with “DO NOT FILE” – this schedule has been updated and replaced by the federal government.

We will notify you when the new schedule is available. If the schedule has been UPDATED AND REPLACED, why isn’t currently included in the Turbo Tax software. If I had electronically filed a week ago, would the submission have gone through and been rejected by the IRS? Surprisingly, I would recommend this product to friends with a suggestion to proceed with utmost caution.

I think that most of us feel that when we purchase a software program, especially a Quicken product which has been around forever, it will be correct. 0.

The first use of this tax program is rather cumbersome with all the questions, but quite thorough. The second year should be much easier as you would import much. Problem was with penalty for owing too much–no way to view/change the 2210 form, which is quite easy to do with H&R Block or commercial TaxSlayer tax programs.

The end result would be overpaying the IRS the penalty amount if filed as prepared. Only solution seen was to enter the prior year data in the 2019 version so it could be imported into the 2020, at least enough to show tax numbers so the penalty would not be shown for 2020.
