Best Internet Speed For Zoom (2024 Updated)

I have had my modem/router for two years without incident until recently. I Purchased this because I did not want to have to pay a rental fee every month to the cable company. Recently I had trouble connecting to the Internet and the cable company assured me it was not on their side.

When I called Netgear, I waited an hour and a half on the phone just to speak to a tech support rep!!!!!!!! The gentleman on the phone was super nice and courteous, we went through how to reset the router, but still no Internet.

He assured me that the hardware was OK, but that I would have to purchase a tech agreement to check the software. That’s ridiculous! The tech agreement was nearly the price of the router/modem to begin with! I had no idea this was how Netgear operated! I thought that the tech would help you with troubleshooting the software as well….

NOPE! I told him, I may as well go out and buy a brand new modem router for the price of the tech agreement!! So after 2 hours (waiting an hour and a half and being on the phone for half an hour). I hung up the phone with no resolution! Fortunately, the problem resolved itself a few days later… The network popped back up working OK!!??? I do want to give kudos to the tech support guy on the phone though, I know his hands were “tied” By the NETGEAR company and he could only do so much without making me pay for a tech agreement.

He was extremely nice, polite and courteous.

Was having trouble with a Surfboard modem with a Netgear R6260 attached after doing the latest update through Nighthawk. Decided to replace it with a modem/ router combo, the C6250. Set up in Nighthawk kept stalling at the “firmware out of date” stage.

I was able to get into the settings through my MacBook but couldn’t find any settings to update it. Turns out with the modem, Spectrum is responsible for updating it. It had the latest update according to anything I could find.

Tried doing setup again, deleting the app, all of it. Nothing worked but oddly I was able to download the old Netgear genie app and that works fine. Just seems like I lost a lot of features that I was used to with Nighthawk.

Speeds seem the same as before and it’s not dropping the connection so all in all I guess it’s an improvement.

Pros: This is a powerhouse of a router. After alot of research including performance, reviews and budget I decided to go for this piece of kit. I was changing broadband to virgin. I already read that virgin routers are poor.

When I had virgin installed I was getting via WiFi around 180mb download speed on a 350 package. Stuck virgins box into modem mode and wired this one up I now get the full dowoad speed over WiFi! Even better at times get 365mb download.

Obviously wired get the full speed. But for my normal size house I get full coverage. Maybe one corner of house I get one less bar but signal still great and I don’t have plasterboard walls. Even on vpn I get get full speeds.

Great app and many features that can customise. I split bands up and use smart plugs, lights, printers on the 2ghz. Rest on 5ghz. I get up 60mb download speed on 2ghz which is faster than most other broadband providers in general.

Fully recommend. Cons: Maybe flexible antenna, but that’s me being picky.

First off, I’m not a techie. have enough back ground to build my own computers and navigate through most technical devices but far from an expert. I bought two of these. The first was as a router and the second as an access point.

Both were easy to setup without any issues. I ended up buying two because the router was placed in an office on the far side of the house in a wooden entertainment center. That effected the strength of the signal, so I opted to buy a second one.

I hardwired it running Cat 6 in the attic and dropped it down in the living room to create the access point (you can do it wirelessly as well but want to get the full signal strength to the living room).

I thought about buying a regular access point, but when you start comparing the data speed and number of bands, you basically end up spending $300 anyway and getting less data speed compared to using this as an access point.

Plus, by treating this as an access point, it gave me 8 LAN ports to hardwire all my devices in the living room, so I thought it was a better deal. Also, fyi, I recycled an old 10 year router at best buy for a 15% off coupon.

When this went on sell for $319, I used the 15% off and picked it up for $271. not a bad deal saving $78! I won’t get into all the data speed measurements as it varies on usage, but what I will say is by having two of these on opposite sides of the house, I get my full 5gz/2gz speed through most of the house.

I also love the fact you get the option of splitting the ssid between 5gz and 2gz or combining it into one as well as the access point uses the same ssid to be able to hand off when walking across the house.

I have only started to use the product but enjoy the ease of seeing which client devices are connected to your network, the data usage of each device, the ease of turning on 160mhz on the 5gz band, etc.

I still need to play with the guest network, parent controls, and other security features. The only drawback for me is it didn’t have WPA3 or a WAN that supported larger than 1G speed. But, I figured the WPA3 is just a security feature and the likely hood that I would ever get (and afford) over 1G of internet speed is highly unlikely in the near feature.

I think I saw Comcast offering 2G for almost $300 a month, ouch! Anyway, this router find my needs and both units have been working flawlessly since purchase.

I bought AX88U because I can’t stand for the random reboot from Netgear’s RAX120v2, which is otherwise a fantastic router. I used to own AC86U, so I was hoping AX88U to be a familiar, stable and highly customizable router.

It didn’t disappoint. Unlike RAX120v2, this is a full Wi-Fi 6 certified router. I believe RAX120v2 lacks “Target Wake Time,” so it isn’t Wi-Fi 6 certified. Though I do want to point out that RAX120v2 offers much better throughput and noticeably lower latency on both wired and wireless connections.

AX88U also lacks a 5G/2. 5G LAN/WAN connector. These were in fact the reasons I bought RAX120v2, but it’s simply too unstable to use. Imaging waiting minutes just for the router to reboot.

I purchased this product in hopes of increasing my wifi speeds in my home and it did not. It is a good product that produces fast wifi speeds but not any better than my xfinity gateway and netgear extender.

In the same room as my gateway, speeds range from 800-850mbps from my xfinity gateway. The eero produced speeds of 750-800mbps so not better and just a bit slower. Downstairs from my gateway and next to the mesh eero unit, i would get very similar test speeds from 350-450mbps and received no improvement even though the eero 2nd and 3rd satellite units were just 2-3 feet away from me.

The Eero app is far advanced vs the nighthawk app. It is extremely easy to setup and use. Being able to edit and name each device connected to the unit was very nice. The one extreme negative I thought is that no one at Eero support (I talked to 3 different people) could tell me exactly what speed each frequency runs at.

So the unit is sold & marketed as AX5400 but what is the speed of each frequency? Like netgear/linksys/asus tell you that 2. 4ghz runs up to 600mbps or 1. 2gbps and 5ghz runs up to 2. 4gbps or 3. 6gpbs, whatever the rating may be, well eero only states that you receive 1.

3gbps at wireless speeds and no one at support can tell you any better. Well how do you know you are getting the 5400? I find that strange that no one knows how fast each frequency is running. Overall, good product that produces good speeds but just did not improve my speeds as I had hoped so decided to just not spend the extra money and stay with the xfinity gateway.

I’ve seen a lot of 4 star reviews that leave no cons. Don’t be fooled by the lack of 5 star reviews, this is a 5 star product. The units are very fast, and if you are within the 50 foot line of sight, you’ll be getting the rated multigigabit speeds “wired” but wireless through a node.

I’ve been using 3 original Eero WiFi 5 units for the past few years and have had no complaints. The customer service is exceptional, and when I picked up a few extra Eero Pro 5 units, they didn’t come with power adapters (i got them pre-owned) and Eero replaced them free of charge.

Unfortunately now, the standard Eero 6 does not have ethernet ports, only the Pro models do. These are fast, and it was easy to “replace” units one by one, including the gateway, slowly upgrading from WiFi 5 to WiFi 6.

We’re now getting 400mbps downlink and when accessing local servers, full gigabit speeds over hardwired mesh. However, I don’t recommend this over the 6 Pro if you want the Tri band and you don’t have WiFi 6 devices.

I purchased it for link aggregation but I’d have much preferred the tri band with 2 5GHz connections rather than this one in that regard. The 6E model has a 2. 4/5/6GHz system. I have one device that support that extra 6GHz band and it’s a phone, so it’s not worth the extra for wireless connectivity.

If you are invested in Zigbee and use Alexa, this system supports up to 150 Zigbee or Thread devices, 50 per node. All in all, excellent system. The 2 wireless nodes apart from the gateway both have 16 port switches and i have 0 drops.

The performance difference between wired and wired mesh is negligible, and the convenience of not needing to run ethernet cables is excellent. Great product. Great customer service. TL;DR; but the Pro or 6 or 6+ if you don’t need 6GHz or certain niche features.

I’ve had multiple routers, from differing brands throughout the years of WiFi. The coming of WiFi6 was a blessing to accommodate an only growing number of connected devices to my network. There are so many smart devices and brands that make them, you’re bound to have compatibility issues.

I’ve had issues with my household’s security cameras just not showing up as available to connect on hubs that were promised to make managing all of them seamless. The eero Pro 6E tri-band mesh Wi-Fi 6E system (3-pack) has been surprisingly seamless the short time I’ve been using them.

The app is dummy proof, set up was simple, and I have not had any issues requiring a customer support yet. The package of 3 was a nice size to cover my home’s square footage, and I was grateful for the technology that supported 8K streaming.

I hope to never have 100 devices connected to my network, but eero claims to support them all if the situation should arise. A truly wireless home is becoming more real with this mesh network system, with a WiFi speed that exceeds CAT5e, so I am impressed with this eero Pro 6E system.

I was a beta tester for the RKBE963 and my following comments about the RKBE963 were not required by Netgear. I decided to post my review because there are so many people who want and need a fast and dependable wireless router.

Asking your friend and neighbhors for their advice when buying a router can really be crazy. You neighbhor wants to help but they are typical having the same internet issues i. e weak or poor signal dropouts, dead spots and premature router failures.

We live in a time now where having poor internet signal can get you fired from your job! And please remember, your ISP does not guarantee you the fastest wifi speed but they do guarantee a wifi connection.

I have owned some very decent routers over the last 20 years and I know how important it is to have a dependable fast wireless network at your home. So my comments are strictly trying to help you. I am a long time user of Netgear equipment but the RBKE963 is the most impressive piece of Netgear equipment I have ever owned.

I currently own a Netgear R9000 and RAX E500 router and both are very fast, dependable and efficient wireless routers but the RKBE963 is the winner in my home. I have 52 devices connected(ethernet) via a Netgear 52 port switch and between 5 to 15 wireless devices running off this router every day without any delay, drop out or dead spots.

The RBKE963 has outstanding wi-fi 5ghz,ac,ax and wi-fi 6 wireless speed and range. The router is very easy to setup and manage. There are other good Mesh units on the market but the RBKE Router takes performance and speed to another level.

My 2019 IMAC does not have wifi 6 capability but it does have wifi ax capability> Running the desktop “WireGuard” VPN protocol configuration, my download speed is constantly over 700 Mbps with a 600 Internet speed plan.

The download speed without VPN is also over 700 Mbps. Those of you familiar with VPN already know that the VPN download speed is typical reduce by at least 50 percent. Well the WireGuard program along with the RBKE963 just blew past that barrier.

The RBKE963 along with the satellites eliminate “dead spots” in and around your house and instantly provides a strong signal. If you have unusal house barriers, the RBKE963 router and satellites each have several ethernet ports in case you need to connect the satellite to the router to reach very difficult dead spots or connect your other equipment.

Gaming, Streaming and Video meeting issues are eliminated with this router, providing you do not have other ISP issues. Your family will love this Router! If you are tired of hearing, “what happen to our wifi”, get this unit! BTW, do not connect this unit to a cheap ISP MODEM!! Get a very fast, good dependable Modem.

I am an owner of the first generation Orbi with 2 satellites (RBK53) and liked how it performed. The RBKE963 is so much better than the original Orbi that I may not even want to look at anything else for a while.

I’m not saying it is perfect, but fairly close in my book. Pros: 10Gbps Internet port along with one 2. 5Gbps and three 1Gbps LAN ports on the router and one 2. 5Gbps and three 1Gbps LAN ports on the satellites! Wifi 6E (6Ghz) capabilities that are stable and fast under Windows 11 (but a bit troublesome with Windows 10) Great coverage compared to my older Orbi and all of my other standalone routers (I have almost 4K sqft across 2 floors with no dead spots) IoT band provides an easy way to connect those pesky old IoT devices that REQUIRE you to be connected to 2.

4Ghz band on your phone/tablet to configure. Although this separate band is not isolated from other devices on your network, it sure solves the problem with the old Orbi of not being able to separate 2.

4Ghz and 5Ghz bands, even temporarily for IoT setup. Cons: No USB ports on either the Router or the Satellites Still the same old Orbi network management page and app. Like most Netgear routers now, the firmware/app really pushes you towards Netgear Armor and Smart Parental Control Router log scheduled mailing is not functional (it mails, but not the complete log, or even anything close to the complete log).

As stated above – this thing is PRICEY – but it is a beast as well in what it can provide for network speed and network coverage.

I got this modem to save money since Comcast/Xfinity wants $10 a month to rent theirs. It works great. I did have some trouble the first week. I had three 30 minute conversations with Comcast where I had to re-add the modem because (mysteriously) it was removed from my account every couple days and my internet would go out.

I’m not conspiracy minded, but it’s clear to me that Comcast really wants that $10 a month in rental fees. But, persistence paid off. My internet works great now and I’ll be saving $120 a year. I mention the Comcast stuff because if you are getting this modem to replace the rented one just know that Comcast wont be difficult about it, but don’t be surprised if you have a couple hiccups early on.

Also, after it gets activated open a browser and go to the Xfinity website, there should be an Activation button that you click. You should also setup your username and password for your Comcast email (I forget what you do you first), but that should solidify the device on your account.

Had Time Warner Install new phone and internet with their Arris Cable Modem/wifi/phone box. One week later I have installed the Zoom Modem. I just plugged it in and put the split cable into the new modem (the other still has the phone connection).

I called Time Warner and they took down the “Cable MAC” which is underneath the Zoom Modem (also write down the wireless Mac and Serial number and user password (NOTE: zoom is lower case and the 4 digit alphanumeric is UPPER CASE when you install the wifi).

The TWC rep was VERY helpful and this took less than 30 minutes. When she said to, I unplugged the 2 ethernet cables from TWC Arris modem and connected it to the Zoom Modem. It worked. Both computers were online immediately (clicked on Firefox and went to a cite to check).

Re-did my android cell phone and tablet and another remote computer and google Chromecast with the Wifi feature (just go to the wifi icon and double click and choose Zoom as the wifi of choice and state connect and put in the password zoom**** (4 random alphanumerics like 7GHH– so password would be “zoom7GHH”).

) ALL is working fine. I did a speed chech before (with TWC modem) and after with the Zoom Modem and the Zoom might even be a tad faster. I am ONLY getting a promise of 2MB/s download and 1 MB/s upload for $14.

99 per month. I am clocking at 2. 15 and 1. 4 with my speed tests whether hard wire ethernet or wifi. I am able to do all surfing and I am streaming movies to my TV with only minor buffering in the beginning and NO buffering after that.

Not bad for $14. 99/month and NOW with no rental fee (which use to be $11 per month. Also, if you have TWC install their modem first then it seems that they have to leave it at your home since the phone is connected; 3 reps stated that they would remove the $11 charge and that I should just keep their modem due to the phone connection.

So IF this is true then I have a “backup” if anything goes wrong and I would be up and running in 15 minutes and be charged a daily rental fee of $11/30= $. 37 per day while I get the other modem fixed.

There is an outside shot that they will give me the phone connector and want their Arris Modem back (but I’m not sure). In either case, the Zoom 5350 is perfect for my need. It cost me $100 + tax from Walmart.

com and it will pay for itself in 10 months.

I bought this model because I have Comcast Business, and it cannot use many of the consumer grade modems. This unit plugged in and easily hooked up, and took Comcast Business less than 5 minutes to authorize.

It has been working ever since delivering at least or better then the speed I signed up for. The front blue/green LEDs make it easy to see the status of the modem and report problems, if nay, to your provider.

It works very well and I have no complaints. Do check with your Cable Provider to be sure this modem is compatible with your network before purchasing. I learned that the hard way with the previous modem I purchased, which did not work with Comcast Business.

This was my first wifi system ever after moving out of my parent’s house and it was easy to set up. buying it outright means I didn’t have to rent the modem/router from xfinity and it saved me some coin (14$) on my monthly payment.

Make an account with xfinity then set up the router, and you’ll connect the router to your account through the xfinity app if you have iPhone (idk for android) and after it’s on and connected to xfinity, you have to download the app for the router mention in the instruction manual, and enter the details of the router into that app as well.

then, it is ready to work. I struggled with getting the names and passwords assigned to the internets on my account, like I’d have 3 names pop up in my phone’s wifi settings, two being 5g and one being 2.

4g, and I had to be on 2. 4g to make edits to the router settings but when I’d switch from the 5g to 2. 4g (not cellular) it would throw my connection in the trash 30 seconds after I connected. so I had to work fast to delete the guest network and cement a password into the 5g setting of the router’s app.

it gave me more trouble by not having a 5g page in the app to edit at all so I had to make the guest 5g just to edit the regular 5g. it was a little bit of running around and I suggest when you set it up originally, don’t confuse your networks or passwords.

I have them cooking smoothly now and my signal doesn’t drop or fade. It’s great for my small space. big houses might want a wireless access point upgrade but dorms, apartments, small houses and it’s fine by itself but your experience may vary.

using an internet speed test from google will help you see what your signal does behind closed doors or walls and is a great free diagnostic tool. my last bit of information that I had to claw and bite for on the internet is that this WiFi Cable Modem Router is a standalone unit.

You connect it to the wall with a coax cable (xfinity gave me one but you might have to buy one) and after you have an account with your Internet Service Provider (xfinity for my area) then this box will do all the work unless you choose to add extra bits.

It is a modem, router, access point, and has 4 switched connection points onboard. It’s pretty dang space conscious and I am happy with my purchase.

Well, I thought about it for awhile and then I just went ahead and bought it. I took it in to get registered at the cable store mac number registration counter and put in the time hooking and unhooking, typing in passwords, and calling, and in the end it was just incredible.

Oh! The applause we got! We did a two minute unplugged power cycle and subsequently were connected on all levels of the universe! I will save approximately $168 a year and be thankful to the online community (who we should all be thankful for) for my new dual-band connectivity.

And wouldn’t you know it, it was another funny pet video on YouTube, and I was on my way. I don’t upload, though, I’m not that sort of citizen. I like my router flexibility to be quasi-metaverse social.

I need my why-fries sizzling, if you can catch my drift. I don’t do video buffering. No more! I have tasted that cheese and it was moldy (and worst of all, unmelted. Boo!). I am not a mouse running from a hole in the wall to masticate and digest that queso.

I am a bird who now sores. A true de(s)cendant of the dinosaurs. I am a Nighthawk, spare me the wine and crackers, Xfinity! I am my own network: The new-Neo, the Netgear AC1750!!! I am the pathway to all that ever was, and all that will ever be!.

I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible. This product is obsolete in my opinion. They have been manufacturing this model since roughly 2013. No wonder I got it for almost $80 off. I purchased this because my Arris Modem/Router combo was old and failing PER Cox ISP.

Well I bought this and guess what? Everything got worrrrrse. I installed my Arris again and things got better and my device was failing? Guess not. With Netgear my signal drops more and the house WIFI coverage wasn’t any better.

But BAR NONE the biggest complaint is the customer service. I absolutely can’t update my firmware. They set ‘go to routerlogin. net’ but no option. They say ‘download nighthawk app’ but no option (endless loop of nothingness).

They say ‘download genie app’ but it says its up to date when it’s not. Then they say that COX is supposed to! And COX says, “hold up, wait a minute, something ain’t right – there supposed to. ” So back and forth.

I have decided to return after two tech visits from COX and a worsening signal and intermittent disconnects, but mostly cause everyone is pointing fingers are each other and the support is terrible. Do yourself a favor, pay a smidge more, buy a new model gateway or do what I did and get a modem and router separately so you can have a little more control over your setup.

I just bought this so I could own my own modem and not be renting one from Time Warner Cable anymore. Their modem lease rate is now $10 a month. I’ve been renting one from them for 6 years so I’ve spent a ton of money.

Finally figured out I could just buy my own and this Zoom modem was on their list of approved modems compatible with TWC internet. I got it hooked up and had to be on the phone with TWC support for about 20 minutes to get it going.

It works but I’ve notice my computer is slower now. Not sure why since I have standard internet service from TWC and this modem is rated at 100mps. My download and upload times are noticeably slower now with this modem.

I’m disappointed but I guess at least I’m not paying $10 a month now. It’ll take 7 months or so for me to start seeing the savings since I had to pay $70 for this Zoom modem.

Night and day difference between before and after speeds compared to a configuration with the supplied modem with phone and router from spectrum shutting down the phone and wifi. Adding to that a prior purchased router.

Happy so far. Setup site from spectrum was slow to recognize at first. It works well now. Sometimes only one dedicated function is all that is needed.

My second Zoom DOCSIS 3. 0 8×4 cable modem. The first one is 4 years old and still going strong. Got this one to avoid the day that first modem would die and I would be modem-less for a time. Retired the first one to backup status and connected this new one right away.

Same great performance, and now I have a backup for immediate use. just in case.

This router needs 10×6 inches table space and needs about 7 inches in clearance for the six antennas, it was nearly twice the size of my previous router. Setup was simple enough that I imagine anyone with the most basic understanding of plugging in wires or connecting to wifi would be able to get on the internet without much hassle.

The rest of the configuration stuff in the advanced area will require a little more technical knowledge. You can download an app and manage everything that way or connect with ethernet to get started.

It did seem to take a few minutes after connecting the router to our internet modem before the router light for the internet connection changed from orange to green connecting to our Xfinity service, much longer than expected.

The device requires you to use a few password security checks like letter/number combinations, but nothing too crazy. You have the option to register for an account and connect your router to it, but you can skip all that and just function as a local administrator.

The 2. 4 and 5 Ghz wifi networks use the same network ID and password, and the guest networks are set to off by default. You have the option to toggle one of the two networks off and only use the 2. 4 OR 5 Ghz if you prefer.

You can also set up a Windows Samba share, local FTP, and Internet FTP with this device. The router also offers a backup program for Mac computers called Time Machine. You have the option to add on extending devices for a mesh network, even to the point of a web link in the router setup to the manufacturer page to purchase them! Mesh is enabled by default, I turned it off since I won’t be using it.

I can tell a good difference in my wifi speeds where there is signal. Still can’t get a good signal in one of my rooms past an electrical box in the wall.

So this review covers the packaging of the product, what the product does, how it does it and suitability for home applications. Packaging is okay. It would be good or average but for some reason the opted to cover each of the 6 antenna’s with a plastic sheath that does not just pull off.

If you have an older wireless router or live in a large house or apartment or one with a lot of walls then this is the product for you. While it’s not a mesh network if you locate this centrally in most houses or apartments you will get good coverage all over your space.

I have a detached garage where we live and I got coverage out there from it. It comes with both a phone and a web app which is nice. As with most other products the web app does a lot more. It has good security with password printed on both the unit and on a pressure sensitive label.

Also comes with WPS for your devices. Like most products nowadays it comes with a “quick start” guide and you go online for the meat and potatoes of instructions. The quick start is adequate. How it does it.

Comes with a WAN port plus 4 ethernet ports. The WAN port you would use for your cable modem in most cases or ethernet depending on how you get your signal. Has external power supply and 5 control buttons, power, LED (to turn the LED indicators on front on or off), WPS for security, WIFI to turn wifi off in case you want to use it as a 4 port dumb switch, and a reset button you use a paper clip with.

It does have a single USB 3. 0 port that you could hang a hard drive or thumb drive off to share photos, movies, files, etc. If you have an older wifi router you are going to notice a big positive difference with this unit.

Setup is very straightforward.

I bought this to replace a storm damaged netgear ac nighthawk router which costs more than this but my kids are grown and my wife and I don’t need hardcore gaming capability or lots of video feeds going at a time.

While I don’t need the AX router version yet with streaming tv’s etc, it’s hopefully setup for when that day comes. The process of getting setup, plugged in and going was pretty simple. I’ve gone through probably 5-8 routers over the last 20 years.

This has the basic functions most people will need. It’s not overkill like my netgear was and unfortunately the internet port died. This one the only thing I wish was better is as all your wifi items connect some of them just are listed by MAC address without a description.

It might take some deciphering what the items are where my old netgear was more specific to the type of device. I like having the dual band with one password and the router deciding which connection is best.

I have over 20 wifi connections, strength in my 2100sq foot home has been solid with no drops. I’m wired direct to the router, all working well. I installed the app and tried that, it works. It’s just a solid mid range AX router that I think will do a good job for me for a few years until I decide to upgrade again.

I bought this on January 30, 2010. It has had absolutely no problems though being in service 24/7 since being bought. It finally has come time to replace it though, as I recently upgraded to a Doc3. 0.

Still works perfect to this day, and I certainly would recommend this product.

This product works just as advertised. Smallish size fits well on desk and with wireless router. LED lights are bright and easy to see. Speeds are excellent and stable. Bottom line: you can not go wrong with a Zoom cable modem!!!.

Great little modem and easy to setup. Not a single problem with compatibility or performance. I love that it can stand vertically to avoid overheating and provide more workspace. If it weren’t for the flashing lights, I wouldn’t even know it’s there!.

Streaming movies and getting kicked off line was becoming a big pain in my house. A friend suggested I should replace the modem. This was the answer, since I still had the original modem from installation about 10 years ago.

I owned the modem and never gave it a second thought. This unit was on a list of compatible modems on the Cox website. It was also the most affordable, with NewEgg offering the best price I could find on the Internet.

So I ordered it and it arrived two days later. It only took minutes to install, I just went on the Cox website and it recognized the modem after I entered my information. It was a total of about 10 minutes.

I am very happy with my internet speed and service, and streaming movies is a dream. I will mention that this does not seem to support the telephone service, but I am planning on dropping that service anyhow.

Overall, this was a very good purchase!.

Time Warner had been to my house 4x recently. Each time they cut off some fittings and replace them with new ones. Then they unplug the modem and replace it with one they took from someone else’s house.

I told them that there was something wrong with the modem and requested a brand new one since I am actually renting it, but they gave another used one. Hence buying this, stinks that it took an hour on the phone with them, just to find out that she put the mac address in her system wrong.

We purchased this because it just didn’t make sence to rent from the cable company if we could get this. It paid for itself in 6 months and as our son found out turned out to be a faster solution. He is a gamer, and said this was measurably about 12 to 16% faster, and speeds dipped less during prolonged high speed use.

Better, faster, cheaper, no brainer.

So far I’m very happy with the MR5200. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks though. I have been the unhappy recipient of a long term power outage so this has been quite a test. ( Snowstorm packing very wet and heavy snow.

Many thousands if trees and power lines down. ) My 5g Samsung S20 for the first 4 or 5 days of the power outage couldnt get any internet, and the phone service wasn’t great. But, even though I have AT&T for my Samsung and my Netgear, the Netgear has worked very well.

When I couldnt get out with a straight shot on my phone, I was able to use WI FI phone service and that worked great. I bought a highly directional antenna for the netgear but with the massive amount of snow everywhere I haven’t been able to figure out where it needs to go.

However, even with one bar signal strength depending on where I set the netgear, I can still get enough data speed ( even during peak hours ) to stream 1080P video. I did think I had a WI FI issue with the netgear but have found its apparently a Vudu/Fandango problem.

( I seem to be having problems I never had until Vudu merged with Fandango. )The movie “Contact” keeps giving me “slow internet” warnings. I did several speed checks and at that time I was getting 60 mbps.

So no, it was NOT a internet connection issue. For experimentation reasons I tried several different movies on Vudu and only had trouble with ” Contact “. But get this. If I restarted the movie from the beginning, it was fine.

But if I did ANY FFWD OR REV it would hang up repeatedly after that. So never assume it’s anything in particular. Experiment. Let this be a warning to those of you like myself who has 100 videos I “Own” on Vudu.

I will not buy any more Vudu movies. If your internet goes down or has trouble or the service isnt working well, “YOUR” movie can be useless. Buy the Blu_Ray or 4K discs. Players are very cheap and give the best quality picture available.

And if you don’t “need” to have a movie right at its release date, they are cheaper than buying a movie online. Often even cheaper that renting a movie online. The battery in the Netgear lasts at least 8 hours.

(I havent pushed it. ) So thats a plus. On the occasion or two that I had any trouble a reboot fixed said problem. And it reboots pretty quickly. Ive been at this adress for ten years and this is the first time I’ve ever had fast and reliable internet.

I’m in a rural area and there are few choices available. And with this recent and Id say very harsh test of power lines, trees, and I’m sure cell phone infrastructure problems, I am really so very happy with the NetgearMR5200.

To repeat. The first several days of power outage, my new 5g Samsung phone was of little or no use. But even though I have the phone and the Netgear running on AT&T, the Netgear has not let me down at all.

Even with a mile of snow laden trees in between me and the closest cell tower/antenna.

I bought this a couple of months ago and for the most part I’m pleased with it. I keep it hooked up to my home router all the time and have never used it for a mobile router. I did take it out in my yard once and saw speeds over 200 Mbps more than once.

It’s not unusual to see speeds of 130 Mbps inside my home and that’s a lot better than DSL which was 6 Mbps. The only issue I have with the MR5200 is that it will drop 5G and change to 4G. I can understand it doing that if 5G is not available but if 5G is available it should reconnect to 5G on it’s on but it doesn’t.

I can reboot the M5 or turn the power off and then back on and it will reconnect to 5G. It’ll do this most every day. I ended up putting the power supply on a timer and set it to power off at 5:00 a.

m. and power back on at 5:01 a. m. but that still doesn’t take care of this issue all the time. It being a 5G router it should always be connected to 5G if it’s available.

This Hotspot is by far the best in the industry. It was easy to set up and understand the instructions (I only had to read the 1st page ). Right after putting in SIM card from my carrier ,I was up and running.

I’m able to get from 288Mbps (during high traffic from the carrier ) to 675Mbps in the evening and around 800 later at night. This Hotspot is very powerful,easy to use and reliable. It is a bit pricey but it is the only one of its kind and the same type from carriers are priced about the same but you get stuck in a contract.

We’re also in an inflation bubble right now so everything is costing a lot more. If you are thinking about buying a Hotspot and are thinking about buying one, just do it and stop thinking about it. This guy can do a lot of things and make it easy to get the internet wherever you go.

– From a corporation perspective, this product is a marketing disaster and if I were ASUS I would be doing whatever necessary to rectify the situation and give paying customers what they were promised on the box.

– If the “fast” Mbps speeds were never promised in the first place, then I would consider this to be a very good router from a “working product” perspective. – I am currently reading the box the router came in and I quote, “Concurrent 300 Mbps (2.

4GHz) and 867 Mbps (5GHz) throughput for HIGH-SPEED wireless performance”. – That statement could not be further from the truth, considering this device’s max output is 100 Mbps, regardless of the wireless channel you’re connected to, wireless device proximity, or if it is hardwired.

– Keep in mind this router is directly hardwired to my other router which outputs around 450 Mbps (limitation due to service provider) – Considering my current success with my ASUS RT-AC66U, I didn’t think twice about purchasing another ASUS router as an access point, but unfortunately this product changed that trust.

– The only reason I purchased this product was because I am a little too far to get 200+ Mbps on the 5GHz channel so I needed to extend my wireless range. – So while this router does in fact boost the signal strength, the boosted signal is essentially pointless, as this router did not deliver what was heavily advertised on the package and on the Newegg website.

– To you ASUS, getting rid of inventory by misleading customers, is not a great way to boost customer retention.

Actually this product is solid gold. Love the interface and setup was a breeze, well not exactly but in a great way. Let me explain. This product is for a customer of mine that has Comcast Business class modem.

I was having issues setting up the router mainly because the modem DCHP was disabled. Asus tech support was helpful but glad that I caught the issue as an IT professional. It was pretty obvious because on the router’s interface page, it clearly showed a DCHP error on the main page.

Great reporting, after Comcast enabled DCHP, I was online in no time. Now i’m going back in the morning to finish the job by doing port forwarding then i’ll call in a day.

I think I’ve had this router between 6-12 months now, and had to get rid of it. Although the 2. 4ghz range was fine, the 5ghz coverage was surprisingly small. My problem was constant wi-fi disconnects and slow connections.

Many times I’d be connected to the 2. 4ghz channel to browse something waiting for a connection, and I’d turn the wi-fi radio off on my phone because cellular was just faster and less of a headache. Constant connection complaints from the rest of the family, poor wi-fi performance and everyone streaming school or video at home because of COVID made this router more of a hassle than a deal.

Gaudy interface (but a good amount of configuration options, surprisingly) and no DD-WRT support unless you get the later G hardware revision, no wireless bridge mode IIRC, and it’s from 2015. Pick something different.

This router was replacing a Dlink DIR-655 which has done yeoman duty over the past 6 years or so. The signal on the old router was not strong enough to reach the whole house. Purchased the DIR-880L to solve this problem.

Upon initial setup, could not get the router to connect to the internet via DHCP no matter what I tried. Called tech support (877-453-5465) and spent 2 hours with an extremely patient tech who was also unable to get it to connect, except as a wireless access point to the old router.

(Case C6851401, Agent AR004620). Next day I tried a tech recommendation of cloning all WAN settings on my old DIR-655 and setting the connection type to static. Boom, it connected. I then changed the connection type to DHCP and the connection held.

Concerned that I would lose the connection when the ISP changed the IP address, I called tech support again, and they confirmed that now that I had synchronized the router the DHCP should work. (Case C6582409, Agent ID AR004214).

This is a great router once you get it dialed in. I was used to the old menu style, but have adapted to the new, simpler menus. I give this a 5 due to the amazing tech support provided 24/7/365, and the end result after some frustration.

The range is certainly far greater than my Cisco Cable modem, which I have left running and will explain why. The AC1900 has enabled 2 Ipads far down an L-shaped living room and hallway to connect readily.

in fact they can connect anywhere in the house or garage now. My Iphone will connect out to the mailbox, (rural area) albeit with flickering bars which is easily 30 meters away but in a direct line to the Router albeit with a wall and steel door in between.

Where I have difficulty is with some wireless devices, such as a Kindle Paper White not connecting at all. It will connect to my Cisco from the bedroom and further down the hall to the bathroom. Some of these anomalies I find strange.

I’ll do further research as time passes. I have the AC1200 connecting directly to the cable modem but my main computer connected by wire to the AC1200 to better access the web page and system settings for it.

I can still access the web page for the Cable Modem/router as well by wire. I have not bridged the routers. I have left both DNS servers running, one for wireless, the other for wired. If you are after range this is a good bet but be aware some devices might have trouble so keep your old one around just in case.

In conclusion I have 3 wireless networks running. Two at 2. 4 GHZ (Cisco and AC1900) and the other frequency on the D-Link at 5GHZ. Most, if not all devices are attached to the 2. 4 ghz. Once AC wireless devices come out I expect it will be even better because all mine use “N” currently and may function more effectively at 5GHZ.

I have yet to find a reason not. Great support (no smart mouth I. t. person on the other end of the phone), great quality & reliability ! Coverage is great & handles all my devices quite well (16 computers, 2 streaming devices & my cloud security system) ! Don’t even think you’ll get by my security system, period (my hog leg is on the ready)! I found this router rather easy to setup with the auto i.

p. configuration built in tools. You just have to set priority on which device you to have priority. I generally buy used equipment & do my own research on everything I buy. If you see a bad review on any product, make certain the reviewer doesn’t have a ax to grind ! Take it from me, with nearly 30 years in the I.

T. field, this router should fit quite well in your home or small office !.

I have an existing Linksys Router with multiple remote boosters and was interested in moving to a true mesh network. This system had high expectations to meet as we have a farm and run wifi cameras out in the barn and horse arena.

The current configuration gets the job done usually but the camera out by the arena loses wifi strength for large points in time. I recently setup a Netgear Nighthawk Mesh Wifi 6 in the main house and that was very seamless and great improved the reliability and speed of internet through the house – I was expecting a similar experience with the Linksys.

It’s been two weeks and I’ve finally gotten Linksys’s mesh setup. The setup was supposed to be simple and easy. But I found pain in every attempt. I was disappointed that the only setup documentation in the package was a business card telling me to download an app, no QR code so I had to take on faith that I picked the right one.

The app continually failed to load the router. My thinking was that the web admin portal would be a valid way of working however when you login to 192. 168. 1. 1 all you get is a referral to use the app: There is ZERO option except to use an app wizard to set this up.

Once I finally got the router recognized by the app and got started with the process I found the process was overly step by step where I could’ve setup the network in 5 minutes each individual step took multiple minutes and to get both the router and the additional node setup took well over 30 minutes, and that’s after I finally got the app to recognize the router.

Once I got everything setup the speeds were impressive and while the WiFi by the arena is not perfect I no longer get Nest notifications that the camera is out (so outages are brief and far more reliable).

In the end, after the bad setup days you do get great WiFi over a broad coverage area. I do goback to that Netgear Nighthawk Mesh that I have in the house though. If I had the choice of one, this that I have in the barn or the one in the house, I would buy the Netgear over again over this.

It’s not bad, and in time I’m sure it will be great but the setup did really leave a bad taste in my mouth.
