20 Best Internet Router For Xfinity (2023 Updated)
A router is a device that connects two or more computer networks. Routers are used in homes, offices, and other types of buildings to route internet traffic. Routers use a variety of protocols to send and receive data, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and bluetooth.
Routers are an essential part of any home or office network. Without a router, devices on a network would not be able to communicate with each other. Routers provide a gateway for data to travel between devices on a network.
Routers can be used to connect a variety of devices to the internet, including computers, smartphones, and tablets. Routers can also be used to connect two or more networks together. This allows for increased flexibility and scalability when it comes to networking.
Routers come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The most common type of router is the home router, which is typically a small, box-shaped device. However, there are also industrial routers, which are larger and more powerful.
Routers typically have one or more Ethernet ports, which allow for wired connections to devices on the network. In addition, most routers also have Wi-Fi capabilities, which allow for wireless connections to devices on the network.
Routers can be purchased from a variety of retailers, including online stores and brick-and-mortar stores. When purchasing a router, it is important to consider the needs of the home or office network.
Factors to consider include the number of devices that will be connected to the network, the types of devices that will be connected, and the amount of traffic that the network will be expected to handle.

Netgear Nighthawk Cable Modem WiFi Router Combo with Voice C7100V
SAVE MONTHLY RENTAL FEES: Model C7100V replaces your cable modem and Wi-Fi router, saving you up to $168/year in equipment rental fees.
This cable modem router gives you high-speed Internet connection. Enhanced features include 3-way conference calling, caller ID, call forwarding and more.
I bought this device to replace the one I was renting from xfinity to cut back on my monthly costs. It was very easy and quick to set up and activate with xfinity, and I am not educated at all when it comes to this technical stuff.
I did it all through the Netgear Nighthawk app. If you set up the network with the same name and password you used with your previous setup all of your devices will reconnect as though nothing had changed.
My only issue (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) was after the initial setup, while watching streaming video, I received a message on my TV that I had lost internet connection. But it resolved itself on its own in less than 2 minutes.
It happened one more time a few hours later but hasnāt happened again since, and I have had it set up for about a week now. If I donāt receive the internet connection error again I will change my rating to 5 stars if I am able to.
I would recommend anyone who is renting equipment from their provider to buy their own equipment, specifically this device, since it is so easy to set up and is working well. You can set up a monthly plan and own it in less than a year while paying less than you currently are to rent it.
After you own it you start saving about $15/month. Itās worth the investment. I wish I had done it sooner.

I have been using my trusty ole Linksys WRT54G for the longest time, just because it had all the options I needed, and has been rock solid. However, range with it was not good enough to reliably get to my garage.
I’ve tried other routers, but they performed about the same, and some had less options. This one was rated as having good range and speed, so decided to give it a go, as I got it pretty cheap on here.
Wow, great connection out in the garage. And not only that, ran speed tests at various far corners of the house and garage, with results almost doubling my old router. This one has 5Ghz speed, whereas my old one didn’t, but I was skeptical on how the higher frequency would penetrate the couple house walls, aluminum siding, and into the garage.
It does very good, with reception to the far corner of my garage, it’s detached. I’m running just over 20 devices with my google homes and chromecasts and other odd stuff. My PC’s are hardwired to a Linksys wrt1200ac, with a wire ran to the TP link at the other end of the house, and it handles wireless tx/rx, while the linksys does the actual dhcp and stuff.
I have been using it only a few weeks so far, but it’s been solid, no complaints.
I recently upgraded my internet speed from 100mbps to 400mpbs. Despite this, my wifi speed was maxing out at about 140mbps. After doing some research, I realized that my old 8×4 modem wasn’t built to handle those type of speeds.
I upgraded my modem, but the speeds were still topping out at about 140mbps. After doing further research, I realized that the problem may lie in my old AC1200 router. I found this router on sale as a certified refurbished product.
It has blown away my expectations. I routinely get speed tests in the 450-480mbps range, which is well above my plan speed of 400mbps. I get strong throughput throughout most of my 2,500 square foot home.
I’ve had no connection issues thus far. Setup is fast and easy, taking about 5 minutes with the tether app. The router also has features which allow you to prioritize certain devices to receive more bandwidth.
Overall very satisfied with this purchase. It quadrupled my wifi speed for $40. Can’t beat that!.

It is OK WiFi 6 router looking at $74 price. Don’t forget to buy extra protection plan for this. I had this refurbished router previously and exactly after 1yr due to some issue (I guess thermal/heat) it went into bool loop.
I opened it and the thermal pad was completely rotten. I had to throw it and buy again since this is the only cheapest WiFi 6 router around. Good – 1. is it has two separate 2. 5GHz and 5GHz network so you can chose what network to connect to.
2. 4 Ethernet RJ45 ports Bad – 1. Has thermal/heat issues so it will betray you anytime. The new one I got has given me a problem couple times already where after 4-5 it just stops and its internet LED turns Orange.
To recover I have to restart it. I’m watching it for the moment when I’ll return it and use the protection plan I’ve bought with it.
I bought the Archer AX10 for the WiFi 6 upgrade because we switched our family to a faster Internet connection and started streaming video on more devices at once for distance learning at home. Unfortunately, the device has frequently lost connection to the Internet (connected through a Netgear CM500).
At least twice a day the Internet connection would suddenly drop without warning. Resetting the router would fix the problem until it dropped again – sometimes within minutes, sometimes hours. I remained hopeful that a firmware upgrade would fix the problem, but when TP-Link finally came out with an upgrade the problem got way worse.
I don’t even try to use this router anymore because it drops the Internet connection every 5 minutes or so. For some reason, flashing back to the older firmware doesn’t work. too bad I didn’t send the router back right away.
This has been one of those dreaded, super annoying, regrettable purchases.
This is the best purchase ever. The default NBN modem/routers that come from your provider are very bad. But you can use them as modem only (as a bridge) and pait it with this fantastic and superfast Ax10 Wifi router.
I have seen my speed go up spectacularly and the connections are way more stable! Also great for wireless connecting Oculus Quest 2 to the PC (Wifi-6)!. Very happy with the purchase.

Reviews From Real Customers
Netgear scams customers to activate this device. This literally happened to me yesterday after I bought this router from my local Walmart. Holy bananas! Do NOT BUY Netgear! I repeat. DO NOT BUY NETGEAR.
They didn’t tell me I needed an activation code, they told me that I had malware on my network from my devices. None of my devices, outside of my PlayStation (which was hardwired) had ever been hooked up to this WiFi.
Brand new network, brand new modem and brand new Netgear router. I tried to problem solve this nonsense in my head, then he pitched me. Telling me that my router wouldn’t work without this program. This made zero sense to me.
I paid $100 for garbage plastic. Then he wanted another at least $120 after purchase. To clear malware from ALL of my devices. I think he thought I was born just the day before. The thing that didn’t make any sense at all was how this dude had me UNPLUG the Ethernet cord from the router and THEN said he was scanning my network š§š¤ In what world does this make sense? Then he told me he couldn’t help me unless I purchased this unnecessary program.
Currently running on RAX40 Firmware Version 1. 0. 3. 94; the latest released version of firmware as of this review. First, the good: 1. Aesthetically, this router is one of the best. It looks good flat or mounted on a wall or ceiling.
2. The router has an LED off switch, which is worth its weight in gold. 3. The router has decent performance and a lot of good settings. The bad: This router has HORRIBLE firmware issues. On old firmware: You have to set it up via the app because the router constantly believes it has no internet via the default IP address.
while providing internet to your desktop via the cable. On new firmware: Pretty much every time this router updates its firmware, it bricks itself and you have to reset it back to the original firmware (which is bad) then update it a second time.
I’d say there’s about a 30% chance of firmware upgrade success, or being forced to force reset it again since it’ll be stuck in blinking LED of death mode otherwise. EVERY firmware update that fails takes about 4 hours of reset/reconfigure/reset/update/reconfigure to make work.
Latest firmware in particular issues: On RAX40 Firmware Version 1. 0. 3. 94, a self-signed certificate was added for 192. 168. 1. 1; this didn’t make the release notes (WHY) and screws with your setup if the upgrade wasn’t successful.
It took 4 hard resets for me to finally get the update to work correctly, where before it was stuck putting garbage in the IP address field, caused by the router itself getting confused by its own ssl encryption (fantastic engineering /s).
DHCP service from the router frequently fails (2-3 times a year minimum). When this occurs, you’d think a reboot would resolve it, right? RIGHT? WRONG. When DHCP fails in the firmware (which you can verify by setting a static IP address on your desktop and realizing your internet service still works just fine).
YOU HAVE TO RESET THE FIRMWARE AGAIN AND UPGRADE IT BACK TO THE LATEST. WHICH IS STILL UNRELIABLE AND FAILS TO UPGRADE HALF THE TIME. My last Netgear router lasted for nearly a decade with minimal issues – maybe a reboot once every eon or so.
This one is quickly headed to the dump. AVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS NETGEAR FIXES ITS FIRMWARE AND MAKES IT RELIABLE. YOU WILL SPEND MORE TIME FIDDLING WITH THIS ROUTER THAN ANY OTHER YOU HAVE EVER OWNED.
I purchased this router from Netgear (the first one I ordered from Amazon and it was a router for Canada, not for the U. S. , so I had to return it and purchase a new router from Netgear after speaking to Netgear Support).
As far as the WiFi signal, this router is excellent and fast, however it wreaked havoc on my network. I consistently had problems connecting from my computers to my printers. I would reinstall the printer, delete the original, and then it would work one day, but not the next.
It no longer would allow me to connect from my laptop to my desktop computer, and 2 or 3 times a week it would rename my desktop computer saying that a computer by the same name was on already on the network (it should go without saying that I do not have another computer by the same name).
I spoke with Netgear support a number of times to deal with this, first with regular support until I was able to get it through to the person that I was supposed to have pro support. Pro support worked with me a couple of times and the router finally seemed to be working.
In spite of having purchased an extended warranty for the router, it turned out that I only had 3 months of tech support; something that was totally unclear as I thought that the extended pro warranty would come with continued support.
Fast forward and the router is now 4 months old and it is once again causing network issues with my printers and laptop. I logged in to my account to find that I was no longer able to get any tech support.
If I clicked to purchase a support contract, it would say there was nothing available. I had kept a copy of the phone number for support, which was good because it is not available through the Netgear website.
When I called the number and spoke to someone, I explained the problem, was told there was a likely solution, but that I would need to purchase a support contract, BUT, I could only purchase a contract during that first 3 months.
In other words, I’m S. O. L. and out over $400. I am beyond angry. I’m sure Netgear will continue to sell routers, as they seem to have a very good reputation for their routers, but their business model stinks! DO NOT BUY FROM NETGEAR.
Keep your home or office connected with this ASUS Wi-Fi 6 router. The 2×2 antenna configuration offers fast networking speeds of up to 3 Gbps, while the 4Gb LAN ports, 2Gb Ethernet ports and a USB 3.
1 port make sharing with other devices easy. This ASUS Wi-Fi 6 router is compatible with 802. 11ax technology for better wall penetration and less bandwidth issues.
I bought the ASUS AX3000 to replace the single-band, WiFi 4 router that is built into my AT&T modem. There are simply too many 2. 4GHz networks bleeding over into our house from the neighbors, and the AT&T router is too weak to get the full circuit bandwidth anywhere beyond about 10 feet from it.
The AX3000 is incredibly easy to set up. Before starting, I Googled how to shut off the built-in wifi radio and put the AT&T modem/router into pass-through mode. The ASUS router app is really nice, but I preferred using the on-board interface to set things up by wiring in our desktop PC.
I set up both 2. 4GHz and 5GHz networks using different SSID’s so that I could tell them apart. (I am not a fan of the “Smart Connect” feature that uses a single SSID and can move devices between 2. 4GHz and 5GHz to try to optimize range and speed.
) Two devices in the house only support 2. 4GHz, but the rest are all on the 5GHz network, including iPhones running WiFi 6 and a variety of devices including Apple TVs and Roku sticks using WiFi 5. Using a speedtest app on my iPhone 12, I then methodically checked every room in the house before connecting all the other devices.
We have a 3000 sq foot, two-story home with another 1000 sq ft in the unfinished basement. The AX3000 sits in the loft near the center of the second floor (great central location). The results? I got the full bandwidth of our internet circuit in every room of the house and in the basement, despite the signal strength sometimes being as low as 35%! This router has great features, a good user interface and a nice companion app.
But it’s the combination of WiFi 6 and other advanced tech that makes its performance shine. I have even noticed my Chromebook getting better battery life now that it can operate on 802. 11ac (WiFi 5) along with a stronger signal.
The AX3000 is not the cheapest home router, but if you need range, throughput, and the ability to support a fleet of modern devices, it is a great investment.
So, decided to cut the cable BUT use some of the money to subscribe to a VPN. The VPN company stated the ISP router would not be adaptable unless I did a bunch of tech stuff like flash it. I can build PCs, I can do very basic things and when shown or told I can pretty much make anything work.
Chose Asus because I like their product, just built a PC with an Asus mobo (Z490 ROG Strix E) and an Asus monitor (PA278) This router is supposed to work well with the VPN company I chose. First upon the simple (and it is simple) set-up, I received no signal from the modem to the router.
Called Asus and they helped me get a signal. I was willing to put that down as perhaps I made a mistake. Tried to install the VPN and when VPN was activated a loss of internet on the PC but not the 2 Rokus.
Contacted the VPN company who worked on it from their end and couldn’t find an issue. Contacted Asus again and again, they helped but when the VPN was on the PC was offline EVEN hardwired into the router.
Had a professional come in to set up the network. He did but VPN drops download from 200+MBPS – >50. He told me to contact the VPN company again. they had me run some configs and nothing. I would call again, but and I know it is something that companies do to keep prices down, but when I can’t understand a single word the phone help is saying (because I can’t be online if working on the internet with possible outages, due to the working on it.
) So, I won’t call them, asking them to repeat and talk slower makes me feel embarrassed. I rarely complain about the telephone outsources because it is what it is, but Asus’ by far the worst. So, while it FINALLY, gets me signals to everything I need the fact that a hardwired PC’s download speed drops 75% is frustrating and I would return it but with the market the way it is with stock on shelves down (bought the last one) and the need for one that handles wifi6 AND VPN there may not be anything else available.
It breaks my heart to have to write this review because as I stated I truly like Asus products.
You should have bought a router for YOUR TI purposes only!! this is a router that’s meant for maybe an apartment or a 2 possibly 3 bedroom home not for an office building! it’s no wonder it didn’t give results like you wanted and it failed.
this is a entry level Wi-Fi router you should have kept with the Netgear nighthawk or something similar. IT ALSO SOUNDS LIKE YOUR PLACEMENT OF THE ROUTER WAS ALSO A BIG REASON TOO. These are 101 facts and you claim to say your I.
T if I was in your position there would have been no way in hell would have bought this router I would have went with something higher in for my “clients”. this router performs exceptionally well with a range of probably 150 to 200 ft with obstructing walls I haven’t had any issues and I’ve had this router for almost a year now the AI protection software works perfectly and blocks what needs to be blocked.
The ASUS router app it’s perfect, easy setup, only took me about 15 minutes it also supports AI Wi-Fi mesh systems so any other Asus Wi-Fi mesh routers you can connect to this and it’s Wi-Fi 6!!! unfortunately as far as the price is concerned I bought it when it was $70 now it’s 159 on Amazon highly recommend this router and remember, if you have a long house an older home that’s brick or anything with thick sheetrock look somewhere else.
The Comcast xFi Advanced Gateway is a good choice for a home router because it offers good performance, has a user-friendly interface, and is relatively easy to set up. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before purchasing this router.
First, the xFi Advanced Gateway does not support the 802. 11ac wireless standard, so it will not be able to take advantage of the faster speeds that newer wireless devices are capable of. Second, the router does not have a USB port, so it cannot be used to connect to a printer or an external hard drive.
Overall, the xFi Advanced Gateway is a good option for a home router, but it is not the best option if you want the fastest wireless speeds or the ability to connect to a USB device.
