I purchase the Motorola MG8725 AX6000 cable modem router as a replacement for the Netgear CAX80-100NAS AX6000. These two devices offer similar specifications. They both tout AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and both have gigabit (1gbps) and multi-gigabit (2.

5gbps) LAN ports. I am a Comcast Xfinity customer who recently upgraded to the Extreme Pro 1200 plan and needed to upgrade my DOCSIS 3. 0 cable modem to a DOCSIS 3. 1 cable modem to take advantage of the speed in my new plan.

While the Netgear CAX80 suffers from wired connectivity problems, the Motorola MG8725 excelled. The CAX80 would randomly drop my wired connection from its 2. 5GbE port from my PC ruining gaming experiences and downloads.

This occurs only when using the 2. 5GbE port on the cable modem and a 2. 5GbE port on my PC. However, on Netgear’s community page, many users complained of the same issue and suggest that disabling the Wi-Fi on the device would “fix” the issue; and it did.

But that is crippling my $500 experience. The MG8725 does not make me suffer from choosing fast Wi-Fi 6 or fast 2. 5GbE connections. In short, it just works, as advertised. It also costs $100 less than that of Netgear’s offering/solution.

The set up was very easy and straight forward. The device has more customization options and I feel more in control of what my device can do according to my preferences. It’s a great start to a new relationship between me and Motorola.

If you’re looking for a device that can provide a strong, fast, wireless network while also allowing you to access above 1000mbps speeds through a wired connection, give this device a chance. From my experience, you won’t be disappointed.

I bought this modem (Motorola MT7711) because it advertised download speeds over LAN and WiFi much greater than my subscribed cable speed of 400 Mbps (from Comcast). While the speed test showed that its speed on LAN (when a computer is connected to the modem using LAN cable) matched my cable’s subscribed speed on both IPv4 and IPv6, its speed on 5 GHz WiFi (at the maximum possible WiFi bandwidth of 80 MHz) is less than half (about 175 Mbps) of the subscribed speed (400 Mbps) over IPv6.

Please note that applications by default use IPv6, not IPv4, so it is very important that it gives the full speed on IPv6. Only when the speed test is forced to use IPv4 that it gives the subscribed speed (400 Mbps) on 5 GHz WiFi (when using 80 MHz WiFi bandwidth).

This behavior is very consistent and is clearly a software issue (the problem only happens on 5 GHz WiFi on IPv6, not on 5 GHz WiFi on IPv4). Also, it looks like the maximum speed that this modem can ever give on 5 GHz WiFi on IPv6 (at the maximum 80 MHz WiFi bandwidth), irrespective of how high is the cable’s subscribed speed, is about 175 Mbps.

When reached out to Motorola, their only response (besides having me do a modem reset, which made no difference) was to swap out the modem with another one (which they said could also be a refurbished one).

But that is not going to solve the problem. Since it is a software problem, it needs to be fixed in the software. Despite repeated requests, Motorola did not show any interest in doing the software fix.

Unfortunately, I discovered this critical issue after the 14 day return period; so I am stuck with it. It is so disappointing to be relegated to less than half of the subscribed speed due to this software issue with the modem, which Motorola has no interest in fixing.

First I tried the Arris G36 which is fast and has a strong signal when it works but setting it up with the app or web interface was basically impossible as both lose connection with the router randomly.

I couldn’t even change the DHCP lease time with it. The settings indicated I had changed the lease time but every 24 hours the lease for all of my smart devices would renew anyway. The last straw was when it reset itself to factory default for no apparent reason while I was at work losing all of the settings I had managed to change.

Then I tried the Netgear Nighthawk AX2700, what a complete piece of garbage it ended up being. It never worked so I contacted their customer support which I’m pretty sure a random person working the drive-thru at McDonalds would be more knowledgeable.

I couldn’t get any devices to connect to the Netgear unless I disabled DHCP and gave everything static IPs. Netgear’s bright idea for me to solve this issue was for me to change my SSID which I had had the same one for over 10 years.

Not sure how that would have helped anyway so I returned it to the store as well. Finally I tried the Motorola MT8733, apparently the 3rd time is the charm. I could not be more impressed. In about 15 or 20 minutes from taking it out of the box I was online with everything set the way I wanted.

The WiFi is stong and fast! I also tested the wired speed from one of the ethernet ports and I’m getting 1 Gbps. I’ve had a landline for years but I’ve never actually used it. Since the MT8733 has two phone line ports I hooked up a phone to it and that works great as well.

There isn’t much to the Motosync app outside of some parental controls, pausing your WiFi, and other basic functions. But everything you need if you want to adjust some settings like say your DHCP lease time can be found on the web interface (192.

168. 0. 1) This modem/router is a little pricier than the other two I mentioned but if you’re wanting to upgrade to Wifi6 or DOCSIS 3. 1 then this is your device. The biggest pro to me was how easy it was to set up as it actually worked the way it’s supposed vs the other two products.

Besides that it just works, it also looks great sitting on my dresser.

My old modem started to flake out on me so it was time to replace it. The Motorola AC3200 had all the features I need: fast (DOCSIS 3. 1), 4 ethernet ports, Xfinity ready, and an app for management. NOTE: It is in your best interest to pre-download the Minim App and the Xfinity app (if you are an Xfinity customer) I simply plugged my modem in, punch a code (located on a sticker under your modem) into the app, and waited about 5 minutes for it to do its thing.

On first try, my modem never connected to the internet but that was my fault because (1) I didn’t follow instructions and (2) I forgot that Xfinity requires you to register your modem with them–through the xfinity app.

Once I grabbed the Xfinity app and rebooted the modem everything worked magically after about 10 minutes of Motorola/Xfinity talking to each other. As long as you have the apps ready to go on your phone or tablet you should be fine.

I do not use the wifi on this router. Instead I use a Google mesh wifi. I was VERY PLEASED to see the mesh network automatically come back online about 2 minutes after the modem registered online with Xfinity.

Nonetheless, I intend to use the built-in wifi network as a backup in the event the Google Home wifi goes down. Motorola was smart enough to put stickers on the bottom of the modem with all the info you need to connect to the built-in 2.

4 or 5ghz signal. Our speed tests have improved significantly across all devices and our connection reliability improved dramatically, but again, I suspect something was wonky with my old DOCSIS 3. 0 modem.

This modem is compliant with ISP plans up to 500mbps. 32×8 means you have 32 downstream channels (think “lanes of a highway”) and 8 upstream channels which is critical in households with numerous wifi connected devices.

While the price point for a DOCSIS 3. 1 modem might seem daunting, you will recover that cost given you are no longer renting from your ISP–and you don’t need a separate wifi router as the antennas are baked into the modem.

This modem does NOT support a landline phone connection, however, so if you use a phone service through your ISP this isn’t the modem for you. The Minim app is very friendly and has lots of useful tools and can be monitored when you are away from the network.

The app will give you connected device info, it will help identify threats, has filtering options (security, ad privacy, adult content), speed testing, “today’s top data use” reports, pause/unpause connectivity, “time spent” reports letting you know what sites have been visited and how often/long, change reports & history, etc.

I just received my Motorola 8702 Cable Modem/Router a few days ago and have been putting it through its paces. Inside the box along with the cable modem/router is a power cable, ethernet cord, and couple pages of user documentation.

First I must say, it’s been a while since I’ve used any Motorola equipment and so far, I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality of this cable modem. It’s much taller than my current cable modem (which I just recently purchased), however, it has a nice sleekness to it and amazing build quality.

On the back you will find a USB port, WPS and WLAN buttons (along with a RESET pinhole button), 4 LAN Ethernet ports, COAX connecting point, ON/OFF button, and the power adapter port. On the front panel is where you will find the status LEDs that will let you know what’s currently going on with the cable modem/router.

Now connecting the cable modem/router is fairly simple especially if you’ve done this before. However, I must note that if you are replacing equipment that you may be renting from your ISP or any other cable modem for that matter you must inform your ISP of the MAC address of the cable modem which can be located on the bottom of the device.

Several ISPs (like mine Xfinity), allow the customer to update their hardware online either through their websites or apps. Xfinity allows me to update changes through my Xfinity app, which makes it a lot easier than having to sit and wait on hold forever.

After connecting, everything to the back of the modem I downloaded the Minim app from the App Store (or Google Play Store if you have Android) and followed the prompts to finish setting up my device.

Once the setup process was complete, I started testing out the speed by visiting a few websites on my desktop in the living room and almost immediately noticed a significant boost in the loading of different sites.

To test the Wi-Fi, I went to the upstairs bedrooms of our condo and tested the connection where we had trouble getting little to no signals before. The signal was strong in both bedrooms upstairs and well as the basement.

Signal used to fade slightly near the garage door headed outside but it has gotten much much better with this cable modem/router combo.

The front of the box containing the Motorola MG8702 modem-router combo reads, in bright colors, Xfinity, COX, and Spectrum. After trying to activate the modem for some 8 hours over four occasions on two different days, I began to wonder whether Xfinity should be listed on the box.

One of the technicians even claimed that the MG8702 was not compatible with their services, although she tried to activate it after I told her it was listed on the Xfinity website as a compatible cable modem.

After two days of failure, I gave it a rest for a week and decided to try one last time. Finally, after a wasted 30 minutes with the Xfinity assistant app and 40 minutes on the phone with a technician, the MG8702 was activated.

I tell this story just as a warning that you may have difficulty activating the modem with Xfinity, but that if you persist, it should work. The documentation that came with the MG8702 amounted to three pages, most of which described features and performance data, but not much in the way of how to get started on using the features.

There was a suggestion to first download the Motorola minim app, which I did, but I found it couldn’t do much without the modem being set up. Once the system was up and running, I discovered that the minim app provides a startling amount of information on devices connected to the modem/router.

It alerts you when a new device connects to the modem’s network, shows the signal strength, bandwidth, and sites connected to. You can also run speed tests for each device with the minim app. When I connected to the modem through my laptop’s browser to examine its settings, the minim app alerted me to this fact.

This app is far more useful than I expected. Oddly, although the three pages of documentation show pictures of both the front and back of the modem, only the features of the back (USB 3. 0 port, WiFi on/off button, WPS button, factory reset, 4 Gigabyte Ethernet LAN ports, COAX connector, power on/off button, power jack) are labeled.

The front has a set of LED icons that light up, but they are not labeled in the picture. This made it hard for me to discuss with the Xfinity technician what was happening, even though the icons are fairly intuitive.

Only later I discovered on a separate piece of paper a list of the LED icons (power, downstream, upstream, online, LAN, 2. 4 GHx WiFi, 5 GHz WiFi, WPS, and USB). I have not yet tried out the USB 3. 0 port.

I currently have a NAS drive connected to my existing wireless router, a Linksys WRT 1900 AC, but I don’t see a need to transfer it to the new MG8702, which would disrupt existing connections. When I get a new external drive, I will add it to the MG8702.

By the way, the Linksys router and the MG8702 seem to be coexisting happily without interfering with one another, the former with a 192. 168. 1. 1 address and the latter, a 192. 168. 0. 1 address. The Linksys router plugs into one of the Gigabit Ethernet ports in the back of the MG8702.

I had only two moments where I feared that the MG8702 might not work as advertised. When the Xfinity technician finally activated the modem, the wireless stopped working. But, after unplugging and modem and plugging it back in, the wireless came back and everything was fine.

The other momentary scare is that my phone disconnected from the network about a minute after first connecting. But, after reconnecting, it has been solid. I have tried other devices, including my laptop and Xfinity Flex box, and all is well.

I can’t report on whether Gigabyte speeds are possible because my plan with Xfinity is for only 100 MB. But all my devices are reading faster than that, so I am completely satisfied with this modem’s performance.

Again, if you have Xfinity, persevere and this modem/router combo should work great for you.

For 4+ years, I have rented Xfinity’s TG1682 Modem. I never had a problem – until Comcast remotely and unknowingly restricted access to the Advanced Setting interface in the Modem, thus disabling port forwarding.

Without port forwarding, I had no access to my smart home devices and cameras from outside my network. After arguing with Comcast for days, I bought this Arris Surfboard. It IS the OEM version of the TG1682 modem.

It took a few hours to get the voice/phone working (there is a specific procedure that has to be followed), but Comcast gladly helped. Port forwarding is back on and all is well. As stated, this IS the Comcast modem, just not Comcast branded.

It has newer firmware, works great, all advanced functions are accessible. The Wifi signal is stronger and reaches further. Internet speeds on my 200Mbps subscription now reach 225 consistently and 250 occasionally.

I attribute this to the upgrades made over the last 4+ years since I first got the TG1682. For the occasional problem I’ve had – all due to Comcast – the Arris tech support group has been friendly, helpful and even taught me a few tricks on troubleshooting and setup.

The trade off of being able to once again configure my own network access is that the Modem is now my headache to solve and not just handing it off to Comcast – but that I can deal with.

Purchased as a gift for my father, finally had a day off and added this modem to his Xfinity account. Everything worked fine including MOCA. Ten minutes later MOCA stopped working. Hours on the phone with Xfinity, they pull Arris on to the call for them to say yeah that feature doesn’t work right so we disable it.

Blatant bait and switch. Too late to return now I have to spend more to get a MOCA adapter to recreate the function built into this device that they switched off. I’d be less upset if it never worked but it was working great for the first 10 or so minutes to have it stop while streaming a movie.

Not right.

This is a well built product. Its body made from a very light and yet very durable material. I love the gray color which also enhance its sleek look design. What I like most about its design is that there are many ventilation holes on both side which would allow hot heat to easily escape.

Modem set up is very simple and the GUI is also very user friendly, I went through it like the breeze without encountering any glitch. It is a Multi-Gigabit Cable Modem with 2. 5 GB Ethernet. It is compatible with Xfinity, Cox and Spectrum DOCSIS 3.

1. If you already have a gigabit internet plan and your ISP allows you to use your own modem, the Motorola MB8600 is the best of the DOCSIS 3. 1 modems that are widely available right now because of its great low price and its two-year warranty.

You’ll need a DOCSIS 3. 1 modem to guarantee gigabit speeds from most cable ISPs, and the MB8611 is also backward compatible with gigabit internet on networks that still use the DOCSIS 3. 0 standard.

Don’t get a gigabit modem unless you already have gigabit service. I am replacing a working Netgear – Orbi Tri-Band AC2200 Mesh WiFi System with 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3. 0 Cable Modem built-in due to the modem as contributing to the sometime unstable/bad latency, whether I was on a video calls, gaming, web browsing or whatever my internet connection would drop on randomly but now with this product my internet is much faster and staying at my internet plan allowed max most of the time which is at around 600mb/s, it is not a super fast internet speeds plan but O can definitely tell the difference with this modem! I am highly recommend this model to anyone especially those that has gig+ service.

I switched from a cable modem/router provided by my internet company to this Motorola DOCSIS 3. 1 Cable Modem and things are going well so far. Do be advised this model does not have a built-in router and one must be purchased separately for the rest of your home network to work.

Otherwise it will work fine and brilliantly with just a single device with an Ethernet port with no other equipment needed. I do not own an internet phone either, but be advised this modem also has no jack for that.

The enclosed quick start guide gave clear instructions and set up was fairly quick and simple. I am using mine with Spectrum internet service and the compatibility is just fine. As a matter of fact as soon as I plugged my computer into the modem it recognized and took me straight to my Spectrum’s account page to activated it without me having to search.

I was disappointed that the enclosed ethernet cord was very short. I have to place the modem closer to my device or buy a longer cord myself. I suppose I am what is considered a light internet user. I do not really notice significantly increased/improved speeds save the occasional YouTube or Netflix video no longer has degraded picture quality or loading issues like sometimes happened with my old modem.

Webpages on my personal computer also seem to load smoother. I would have to reboot my old modem at least once every few says or so; doesn’t seem to be the case with this Motorola one. I am also excited that if I do upgrade my internet devices sometime in the future I already have this modem which is capable of gigabit speeds.

This capability of providing even faster speeds as they become available in the future means this modem is a longer term investment for me.

I have 1 Gig service provided by a cable company. I have also chosen to own my modem instead of renting one from the cable company. My previous modem was also DOCSIS 3. 1 compliant, but was made by a different manufacturer.

The old modem would look like it was connected, but would lose access to the Internet. After I replaced the old modem with this one, that issue no longer happens. Based on network speed tests done just before I swapped out modems and just after, this modem appears to support speeds about 10% faster than the old modem.

Installation was easy, but did require that I chat with a technical support agent at the cable company. After I provided the MAC address and serial number of my modem, it took less than a minute for the agent to configure my connection and for my modem to connect to the Internet.

Overall, I am glad that I purchased this modem and would recommend it to anyone with 1 Gig service.

So, let me start off by saying that I currently use a Linksys router that is about four years old in the basement of my 3 story home (including the basement). That router has been working fine since I moved into my house, but I do notice that upstairs I get a slightly weaker and slower wifi signal.

So, i decided to try a mesh system after reading a lot about them and this specific one have a lot of good reviews. Well let me tell you how disappointing the system was. The biggest benefit I see to it was that it is extremely easy to set up.

Set up took about 10 minutes and then it updated for about another 10.  The Wi-Fi signal in the office that the main hub (the puck that was acting as the main router) was extremely fast. My current router gives me about 240 mbps down and this one did give me 380mbps.

But, on every other level of the home (I placed a puck in the basement, main level and upstairs) was extremely laggy. I couldn’t even stream Hulu or Netflix without it buffering every minute. And the Apple TV is inches away from the Wi-Fi puck.

everything on the Google Home app said that all three pucks had extremely strong signal and the mesh network seemed to be working seamlessly, but that didn’t feel like the case. Anywhere in the house besides being in the office with the main router on any device was extremely laggy.

Overall this system was very disappointing and I will probably just be getting another (stronger) single router and returning this one.

Simple setup, looks clean, supports up to 1 Gbps, all for a pretty affordable price. But the range is just horrible. I thought—based on Google’s recommendations—that the router alone could cover our single-level, 1200 sq ft home.

Nope! It can’t, thanks to this one egotistical, cake-eater design flaw: it supports “dual band”, but unlike every other router in the market in the last 20 years, it presents a SINGLE network of both 2.

4 and 5. 0 GHz bands, and THE ROUTER chooses between the two frequency bands for you?? Not your device??? That means, if I am more than 1 room or 20 ft away from the router, my device will be stuck on the (very poor range) 5.

0 GHz and cannot connect to internet at all, despite the device looking like it’s connected to the network. Also very frustrating to try to set up home automation devices, since almost ALL in the market rely on 2.

4 GHz. Sure, buying more of their Google mesh points would help coverage, but should that be necessary? Very frustrating design decision that makes this otherwise great router virtually garbage.

We have the higher power Google mesh router system in our house, and wanted to get something for my parents’ for Christmas. They live in a brick home that is half basement (similar to mine), and the Wi-Fi range was terrible.

At our house, we had upgraded to a rockin modem / router combo and got 1/10 of the distance promised because of the building materials. The Google Mesh system changed the game, in a time when both my husband and I are on Zoom calls all day and need reliable connection.

Back to this product – tried the lower price one for my retired parents (who are also on WiFi all day, just not video calls) and they LOVE it. This is perfect for their house, and makes it so we can also work there whenever we visit.

One thing to note – when we set up our system, my husband spent hours trying to figure out why it wouldn’t connect. Nothing online addressed his issue, customer support couldn’t figure it out. He ended up flipping a switch / turning off a feature on the modem that literally nobody had addressed, just to see what happened, and it finally worked.

For this system, we had none of those issues connecting it to their modem / router combo.

This was probably the best purchase we made for our household within our first few months moving there. We went through three of the standard issue xfinity modem’s within the span of a couple of weeks because they ALL had the same problem.

The internet would cut out constantly when using a wired connection (???) but worked perfectly for wifi. After trying with them, we concluded their modem was the issue and decided to take the plunge and buy this one.

It was kind of on the pricey end but not bank breaking (depending on your budget), but it worked amazingly after we got it set up. Setup is easy enough if you read the directions provided. Wired connection never dipped or cut out and the wifi was perfect as usual.

As someone who both works from home and games, this purchase was certainly worth it. It’s been two years since we got it and (so far) it still works great.

I upped my xfinity subscription past my old router’s 600mbps so I bought this. So far it’s doubled my upstairs speed (5mb to 10wifi). And my phone gets 256 on WiFi while leaning on the modem. I would like to see more controls for time of use and access.

It’d be nice to be able to lockout the kids at a certain time so they’re not hiding under the covers surfing the web at 2am or to be able to cut them off from WiFi until their chores were done. I should be able to cut them off with the genie app or nighthawk app but they don’t always let me log in and the nighthawk app lacks A LOT of the genie’s functionality.

I like the one source printer share app when it works but I often have to dink with the control app on the source computer. Overall a decent device but I’d have taken it back if it wasn’t 1 of 3 products I found that had all my needed functions.

(the other two were considerably more costly and/or unavailable).

I bought this modem/router to replace Xfi. It works well. The wifi range doesn’t seem to be a wide as Xfi. And it was not an ‘open the box and set up’ experience. Everything was set up and lights on but no internet.

Had to call customer service and waited 1-1/2 hrs for help. CS Rep was not very professional, spoke over my trying to speak, was noticeable irritated. I was irritated after waiting on hold for 1-1/2hrs but still did not take it out on him.

I did mention it of course and asked if this was a typical wait time. I would really have to think twice before buying another NetGear purchase. I am looking forward to lower bills with Xfinity.

Full disclosure. I purchased NETGEAR Orbi 753S from Costco not Amazon, because Costco offered 1 year of Free Technical Support not NETGEAR’s 90 Day standard Technical Support contract. After Unboxing and setting up, I already had my first call into Technical Support, as the product was not plug and play like advertised.

Many devices that use 2. 4G not 5G had issues trying to connect to system. Trying to get help from Tech. Support is impossible! After long wait times on hold (30 minutes to over 1 hour) you will hit a call center based in a foreign country, so language barriers exist and are quite prevalent.

The system seems to be very quirky, as it may work for multiple days and weeks flawlessly, but then for no reason, quite working altogether or have satellites drop in and out causing your wi-fi connected devices to stop functioning properly.

The system is set up with warning lights on the router and the satellites to warn you of issues with the system, but unfortunately ghost lights do occur according to Tech. Support, and they have no solutions to fix the issue.

Costco 1 year Technical Support is not worth the paper (Box) it is written on, because after the 90 days I have spoken with multiple technicians who want to charge you on a per call basis to fix the issue, which never really seems to get resolved.

Unless you are a programmer, or no something about programming, Technical support often leads you through going to a login, and completing multiple steps (writing code) which is supposed to fix the issues, but never does.

NETGEAR is interested in the initial sale of the Orbi, and then signing you up for a service contract after the free 90 days of support that can cost anywhere from $140 to $220. That may work for you, but when you have a product that is warranted for 1 year, try getting your product repaired or replaced for free when Technical support won’t even talk to you because you have not signed up for their service contract.

This is pure extortion on NETGEARS part because they know that they have a product that will need Technical help at some point, and if you are unwilling to pay for it, you basically have a paperweight not a router with Wi-Fi extenders.

DO NOT BUY! This issue seems to be prevelant on all NETGEAR Routers and Extenders!.

I bought this system to provide wifi for our small church. We have roughly 5000 sq. ft. of space, so I purchased the 2 satellite version, but one may have been enough. I was getting pretty good coverage before plugging in the second unit.

Setup is not complicated, but it is helpful to read the instructions to understand how the system is designed. The units all look the same. The router is identifiable only by the stickers on it. Each unit has its own set of LAN ports.

By default, it comes with profiles for each of the 4 SSIDs that indicate how each might be used: Administration, employee devices, Internet of Things (IOT), and guest. The guest setup assumes you will want to obtain and agreement for terms of use before proceeding.

The network shows as unsecured. The password you set it taken as part of the agreement process. There does not seem to be a way to change this behavior, but it may be that I missed it. The Virtual LAN (VLAN) profiles can be changed for each SSID, and that determines the level of access each client has and whether it can see other clients on the network.

Since I did not want to use the agreement process at this time and we don’t really need a separate employee network, I applied the guest profile to the employee SSID to create the standard wifi password connection I was looking for.

The routers interface is easy enough to use, but one should be aware that when configuring the wifi profiles changes must be applied before leaving the tab for that network, and the process of saving the changes seems to take much longer than it should, apparently due to the way that the router shares it’s configuration with the satellites.

The router does have features for virtual DNS and remote management if desired, as well as facility for creating a DMZ for Internet facing servers. We have not yet put any real stress on the network, but throughput seems to be good.

I may need to update this after we’ve had more time with it, but so far it seems like a solid system. I will be considering a Netgear product the next time I need a new router for my home.

We have subscribed to Gigabit internet service for a couple of years and since my home office is the furthest distance away from the wifi router, I would struggle with much slower speeds and internet stability/connectivity issues during video calls.

I started researching mesh wifi router systems which led me to the Orbi WiFi 6 system (RBK750 series). Initially, because we live in an older home with plaster walls and other physical obstacles (i. e.

the plumbing, tile and porcelain in bathrooms all likely add some interference), the wifi mesh did help my internet reliability, but it did not help my download speeds. After two cable company visits and more research, it became clear the solution was putting a wifi mesh satellite in my home office and then using an ethernet cable to connect my laptop directly to the satellite.

Even though the signal to the satellite is still coming over the mesh wifi wirelessly, the speeds coming directly out of the satellite via the ethernet cable are VASTLY improved! Before this solution, I was averaging 100Mbps to 150Mbps and a ping of 14 to 18 (using speedtest.

net) to now averaging 500Mbps to 600Mbps and a ping of 9 to 12!! The other satellite in our system with a more direct site line to the main wifi router is averaging 800 Mbps using this same connection setup!! Now that everything is set up, it is working flawlessly and I am very happy with the results!.

So I got this mesh system to replace my router and repeater that were driving me nuts with reliability issues. This system works great! I’m getting 5g connections reliably whereas in the past, I only got that connection close to my router or repeater.

I’d say the range of these is great! Also, of note, I don’t see that the speed decreases when the signal is being received by the satellite unit. I get 120mbps five feet from the main unit, and I get that much connected to the satellite 20 feet away.

Really remarkable! Oh, and this: it works great with a tv streaming video in one part of the house while several other items are also attached with no reliability issues. This is my favorite and best wifi system I’ve ever owned and I am literally in awe that I don’t have to mess with wifi anymore – it’s done! I just want to stare at the little white cubes and admire them.

This system and experience is OK, but for the price, it should be great. The router and satellites mostly work as advertised, but they do occasionally “drop” internet service. What’s really troubling, is simple, yet necessary things such as firmware/software updates can cause the router to crash, have slow connectivity, or no connectivity.

This is the warning part. the warranty AND live (human) tech support for this product is only for 90 DAYS from date of purchase. Once that has expired, you are on your own for figuring out problems, or you have to pony up even more money(!) to get live tech support Now, for free, Netgear will guide you to their online forum/ web page for tech support, but good luck.

You must post your problem/issue, wait for a response (here’s to hoping the online tech support people know what you are asking/describing the first time), then try to figure out if that solution fixes your problem.

If that solution doesn’t work, it’s back to the drawing board and the online forum. For people that are not tech savvy, this could pose a huge problem. Also, with some of the tech support responses, you will be made to feel like you just fell off the turnip truck or that you are talking to a bunch of “homers.

” The entire tech support process is an unnecessarily drawn out, arduous process that could be made better, by talking to a live person, for FREE. The Orbi app apparently is hit or miss as well, because updates pushed through using the app can cause problems.

In summary, the price does not meet the expectations of what this product should be able to do and the support that should be given. For the price, I feel that I bought great looking sports car, with a 4 cylinder engine.

Three small boxes that now provide even coverage throughout the house for internet. Very easy to set up. The Orbi app does the work and you follow the simple instructions. Both the 5 GHz and the 2. 4GHz bans are available and everything has the same name.

If the device can connect to only the 2. 4 GHz band it will do so automatically. Coverage seems to be exactly as claimed. The only irritation was only having one Ethernet port on the main unit. Most of the routers today will have at least 4, my last one had 8.

So if you have wired connections, you will need to have a switch available to connect all of them properly. That included our network attached storage that runs in the house. You will need to plan ahead for that or be ready to buy a switch if you do not have one and expect to attach wired devices.

The app is easy to use, but runs in basic mode. You can log into the router as you would with any other Netgear router and access the advanced mode from there. Configuration changes are the same from within the control panel that way.

If you are a user, not an IT professional, the basic mode gets you setup and running very quickly. (About 15 minutes for me, an I expect anyone could follow the instructions and have about the same setup time.

) The Orbi has a free 1 month trial of their network armor product and after a couple of weeks of use, it seems to do a good job. Spam emails that passed the filters at the ISP, have been caught (these are emails with known malicious code or sites in them).

Still haven’t decided if I will start paying for that product after the trial period. For those without a security background, it will probably be worth the expense.

I have been using an Asus GT-AX11000 router in the lower level of my two-level home (2,350 sq. ft. ). Speed was slow at the far end of the upper level, so I bought this two pack of RT-AX92U to try to improve that situation.

Setup was unbelievably fast and dirt simple: plug new router/node into wall near existing main router; open existing router control page in web browser; click on AiMesh tab at left, then select Add AiMesh Node.

Wait a minute or two until that process completes, then repeat with second node, and then move both of them to desired locations. Then run Optimization procedure in web browser. WiFi speed at far end of my upper level jumped from 75 Mbps to 560.

I am very pleased. A fun added bonus is that these units are styled like little mini-me’s of the the GT-AX11000.

I highly recommend this router for most users. While some less technical users may have some trouble during the set up once you get these bad boys functioning properly, you’ll be thankful you listened to my advice.

I have seen posts folks having disconnection issues for which I have had none. Though I might encourage those users disconnects as an an issue to run a wired back haul which always improves stability while freeing up your second 5G wireless spectrum for your mobile devices instead of maintaining your mesh network.

Anyways I can walk from one end of my property where I connect to one router, then enter the house and walk to the back bedrooms where I am connected to the mesh node without dropping a single frame while streaming videos or playing games on my Switch/cellphone.

Also my download speeds increased from the 800Mbps+ range to 920Mbps+ while wired over my 1G connection. Wireless AX link speeds seem to max out at close to 1026Mbps which is disappointing. Keep in mind with wireless devices your DL/UL speeds can be hindered by your devices storage.

For example my phone never exceeds 400Mbps on downloads despite having 866Mbps or faster connection due to how slow the onboard storage is while my tablet hits north of 650Mbps at the same connection speeds using Speedtest.

net (site or app I used both). My wife’s laptop on the other hand has no problem saturating it’s wireless connection. Your mileage my vary. So your wireless devices have been warned ;).

I bought this modem/router to replace a Cox rental unit (which was very outdated) for our winter condo. We have smart thermostats in both our homes to set and monitor, the rental would keep dropping signals and constantly needed to be reset online.

It’s been one year now and this only lost signal once to thermostat that alerted me (cox internet was down) and the Wi-Fi has good sign through out our 1400 square foot condo. There are two smartphones, sometimes 2 laptops, thermostat and a chamberlain garage door opener connected to the Wi-Fi.

We use an arris cable modem in our other home which also has been very reliable and fast.

Set up was easy and not paying Comcast a rental fee is great. I was hoping it would solve my problem of freezing/buffering but it doesn’t. The placement of the surfboard sbg10 is in the same room as the connected devices.

I think my problem is with Comcast and there lousy service. My rented modem/router only had 2. 4 so I purchased the Arris sbg10 for it’s price and upgrades. Now my chromebook is not connecting to the network after unplugging it to refresh and then plugging it back in.

When I try to connect to the Arris it tells me my password is incorrect! What the hell!!!! All my other devices reconnected but my chromebook is defaulting to an Xfinity hot spot. I’m so frustrated.

If you are needing a Wi-Fi router/cable modem combo that will pull actual Gigabit speeds for a few devices without much fuss, this one is perfect. That is what I required of mine when purchased a year ago and that is what I got.

If you want to to stream 4k quality TV in one room while you browse online for a new router/modem while your wife and daughter are watching TikTok on their phones and your son is using his PlayStation to test if the “unlimited data” promise from your ISP is truly unlimited, with a couple devices on Wi-Fi here and there, this modem is for you.

Mine handled all that and more for a year with little issue. Now, if I want to do some gaming with my kids… FAT CHANCE. Even with everything else disconnected, three game systems are just too much for this thing to handle and you should not expect it too.

Taking away one star because the Arris is not actually Arris, it is Commscope and the app that they push on you is complete garbage that never works and their “customer service” goes no further than “have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?” Beyond that and you’re on your own.

Additionally, the manufacturers warranty will have you without a modem for two weeks unless you want to shell out $100 to pay for “advanced replacement”. I recommend the replacement warranty offered by BestBuy for this device and I rarely ever say that.

We were looking for a decent cable modem & router for our apartment, so that we need not squander money paying Comcast to rent one of theirs. The reviews on this one looked good, so I pulled the trigger.

It’s a nice package, with a compact footprint which is nice. Setup via the free app software was tolerably easy. The MAC ID on this modem is not clearly identified: there are 2 of them, which differ by one character.

This caused confusion and delay when setting it up with the cable company, but once resolved ceased to be an issue. Signal strength is not as good as what you would get with a dedicated router with adjustable antennas; the thick brick walls also impede signal at the other end of the house, and was easily remedied with a $20 mesh extender.

Throughput is decent and as-advertised; note that this unit is best for households with routine data loads, rather than multiple persons streaming 8K video. For a normal user looking for a decent household modem/router, this is a good product.

I like this modem/router a LOT! It performs! I have been struggling for the past 2 years with a Spectrum supplied Technicolor modem/router. Had all kinds of glitches and irregularities with it. I couldn’t get the speeds and performance I was paying for.

Finally had enough. I couldn’t be happier with this Arris G34 modem/router combo. I have had and used many different brands of modems and routers over the years. I am very pleased with this G34. It does what it says – no if, ands or buts.

It was easy to set up. I didn’t use the App. I like to use the user interface – 192. 168. 0. 1. I had everything configured as I wanted it in a few minutes. I have a couple devices that need assigned (static) IP addresses on my network.

Doing that was a breeze with this router. The user interface in this router is probably the easiest I have ever used. I highly recommend this modem/router combo. I am now getting the speeds I should have been getting.

I am happy to know that I have the latest technology. The WiFI 6 capability and performance is phenomenal! Highly Recommend this modem/router.

Recently purchased one of these as I’ve always been a Linksys fan. I have 3 Linksys Velop nodes that work fantastic but that’s another story. Being loyal and wanting a complete Linksys system I thought the new top of the line modem would make a nice addition and complete my network.

So, I set it up that was no problem with Spectrum. My signal has been dropping every day 2 and 3 times a day 7 days a week. No problem, I figured it’s a new product they have some bugs to work out, maybe a firmware update.

I called tech support every day for a week and got nothing but music on hold, I emailed support, did support chat and after 3 weeks I’ve had a conversation with one human from the Philippines that told me after 2.

5 hours on the phone to reset the Modem, he then closed my ticket and told me to call back if I have any other issues. Nothing has changed the signal drops every single day. The old Spectrum Arris rental modem never had any issues.

I wanted this to work and I wanted to say great things about it but not this time. I finally gave up and ordered the Arris 3. 1, the Linksys is going back. Sorry, Linksys I really tried!.

Seems like I have to reset modem/router combo (power down then back up again) all to often to keep all working. For example network connected printer seems to get lost. Wifi connected devices also get lost.

Always seems to recover after reset action. This review is after 3 years of use. Works good most of the time but resets are annoying. Expertise level: Just enough to be dangerous.

Relative to its cost as a refurbished product, the cable modem is ok. But it is a product I wouldn’t recommend buying new at a full price. Not worth it. The cable modem is very very basic. There aren’t many advanced features such as firewall, firmware upgrade or even disabling wifi.

I have had multiple problems with it such as my cellphone apps not loading fast enough while on wifi (due to Upnp setting being ON) or 5Ghz wifi dropping and disappearing all of a sudden (unknown). If you dont have a higher budget, I guess it is ok for you.

If you are an advanced user, consider another model or brand.

I bought this after our previous modem-router combo stopped supporting parental controls, leaving us with clunky options to control access. Installing this was a cinch. Initially I installed it as an access point, but I was unable to access the parental controls.

I switched it to router mode, and two minutes later, we were up and running. So far my impression is good coverage for our fairly large-ish house.

“At up to 1167Mbps” This is anything but the truth. Here’s the reality. The hardware may be capable of it, However the way it manages traffic? It’s actually lucky to get any connection (wired or wireless) to over 100Mbps.

So the Pros: Connection strength over wireless is actually pretty good Wireless range was also decent. The admin panel was nicely organized Simple and easy. The Cons: The speeds were insufferable. So the thing here, Is if you have a connection that can deliver over 100Mbps, buy something else.

If you need something to get you through the weekend until a real router can be delivered? This isn’t a terrible option. If your connection is 100Mbps or under? I highly recommend this unit. The final observation it does sort of use more than 100Mbps, The problem is connection priority.

I could have 4 devices connected and be getting 100Mbps on all of them simultaneously, However even if only one device was connected. It still only delivers 100Mbps. So it doesn’t ever go “Hey there’s no other traffic, use more bandwidth on the connections that are open” That is something worth noting.

I’ve been on the phone with Arris and Xfinity too many times since I purchased this modem/router almost 2 years ago. Since it’s still under the 2 year mark, I finally insisted with Arris that I needed a new one and they just sent it.

I had to pay for it ($200) plus $20 in shipping but the agent told me I’d get a refund once they receive my old product. My main problem was that Arris said the signal levels were off, which is why I kept losing internet connection.

Xfinity came out to fix the signal levels twice, adding a splitter on the outside, then on the inside of my house. Both times they said they could not reach the ideal signal levels that Arris insisted they should be at.

I’m almost ready to give up and pay the $14 per month rental fee for Xfinity’s gateway. But I’m so against the idea of renting something we should be able to buy. So far the new arris is working without as many event logs.

This is my second Netgear product. The first one went bust within 24 hours of purchase. This one worked well for a couple of months. Then all of a sudden, the 2. 4G no long works. I Googled it and found out that users of several different Netgear wireless products experienced the same problem.

Some users reported that after factory reset the 2. 4G came back on only to went out again in a few minutes. So I would not even want to waste time trying. My temporary solution is to run a Wifi range extender (not made by Netgear!) that broadcast both 5G and 2.

4G. I will look for a new modem of a different brand. Since this one can no longer be returned, I will have to get Netgear replace it under warranty. Then I will probably sell it. Well, as they say, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I should not have bought my second Netgear product. But definitely no more Netgear product for me ever again.

Recently purchased this as an open box unit and so far seems to be working fine. We had a very similar modem / router that must have been its predecessor with one in between and the one that was similar to this worked excellent until we knocked it over and it smashed and it didn’t work anymore.

So hopefully this one will not have that happen. Netgear makes really good routers and the one that we had in between was given to us and it was actually a more expensive model with the two antennas and cable company was doing an upgrade in the area and as far as we are concerned, they fried it.

Could never get it to reboot after they did whatever they did. I prefer to own my own equipment than to give them money to rent it each month and on a modem like this, wherever you buy it, it would be yours and once you pay for it there’s no monthly gateway charges.

I bought this modems and it literally never worked. My other Netgear modem/router works fine on the same connection (although it is old now and overheats and cuts out, but I got a good many years out of it) and I worked with my internet provider to update the MAC number and everything so it is not from that end.

I talked to customer service at Netgear and they said they could not help me because it has been more than three months, even though I have literally never used it. It definitely appears to be a hardwear problem, which you think would be covered under the 1 year hardware warranty but apparently not.

I was happy with my other Netgear product but this customer service experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth, now I need to buy a new modem/router even though the last one never worked?.

I used this product to replace a Netgear Nighthawk that was the main router which I used to DHCP the wired stuff in my office, which I had a Google WiFi 3-pack Mesh attached to that provided WiFi. Not being a “networking person” I didn’t realize it would make the wired and wireless units not visible to each other.

So I replaced the Nighthawk with this upgraded Nest pair and meshed all 5 units. But before I “joined” the original Google WiFi units to this NEST mesh, I did a bunch of testing and I was blown away by the speed of these WiFi units.

I have 100Mbps Cable Internet with 10Mbps upload. Using my cell phone and the built in speed test in the Google Home app, I constantly got 110Mbps down and around 10. 5-11Mbps upload everywhere in the house.

The tough spots were out in the garage, the driveway, and backyard, so I added the other 3 older Google WiFi units and now I have wireless that I believe is comparable to being wired. There are a few wired devices in my son’s room which are now using the older Google WiFi unit and they’re all just as fast as the wireless units.

We used to use a Powerline adapter with a switch for his wired stuff and the speed was terrible. That’s no longer the case with this router and the mesh. The best thing about this product is that it’s Google Home Aware, so if you’re “hey google” and not “alexa” it’s a great choice.

Plus the bonus with the WiFi Point is the built in speaker and Google Assistant. We replaced a tablet and bluetooth speaker with the Point in our kitchen and the sound is amazing. It’s not designed to “crank up the volume” but if you want some background music in your home then this thing will satisfy for sure.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with it. I took the Netgear Nighthawk out of service and now it’s Google WiFi all the way.

I have self installed this product and used it for a few weeks. The Google Router is my primary router for my cable internet connection. I receive the full speed of my purchased Internet connection of 200Mbps Down/100Mbps Up without any issues.

The product provides WiFi coverage through my entire house with the two WiFi points deployed. This provide coverage in my previous dead spots. The AP’s use a signal network name for both 2. 4Ghz and 5Ghz making it easier to connect and move through the house without loosing concoction.

The Guest WiFi network is not great. When set up it works but I found it often dropped my guests. The main network doesn’t have this issue. Sharing my devices like the xbox or printer worked well when the guest network was running properly.

My guests could share minecraft with the Windows 10 computers and Xbox without issues. This is likely a software issue that will be resolved with updates. The software to control the network devices is on your cell phone.

This can be Google WiFi or Google Home. I already have google smart devices so this was an easy add to my home. When my cable connection goes down I lose visibility into my network. This is a huge drawback compared to my previous router.

Luckily services in my area are very reliable and this will not be an issue often. The inability to control the device without an active Internet connection and the glitches in the guest network knock a star off the product.

I would buy this system again.

Designed as a wired base router with a pair of wireless remote nodes the Nest system was easy to install and the configuration was straightforward tho not automatic. This system (2200 series) will operate with the earlier generation 1200 series.

Easily supported 200 MB service. For my use the only downside is the 2200 series does not permit Ethernet backhaul from the main router to the remote units. For that reason I added a pair of 1200 series nodes as the previous version does offer wired backhaul.

Management and configuration is done via an app, and mine performs well on my iPhone.
