Works perfectly! We purchased this lite version to use in our 2019 Honda Odessey mini van. The power cord is long enough to reach the AC adapter in the front while the HDMI fire stick stays plugged into the back of the center console without any issue.

We hotspot our internet for the kids to stream on the go. No more buying BluRay/DVDs just for the kids to complain they are bored of watching them every time we travel. Even with the fire stick being close to floor level- the remote works fine from each seat in our vehicle.

I’ve included pictures of how it is setup in our van if anyone else is curious. It took about 15 min to setup and most of that was simply logging into our different apps. Only works with WiFi/Hotspot connection obviously.

Quick and easy set up. I bought this app I can access Beachbody on Demand (netflix of fitness) but I got more than I bargained for. The quality of YouTube videos really makes a difference! Also I would always screen mirror Disney+ movies from my phone but the images from the Fire stick is amazing! They have such a vast selection they even have my GO Victory app/channel that I would watch on my iPad.

Wow the upgrade I didn’t know I need and for such a great price. I almost returned it to but I didn’t know how much options I had. Well worth it! This is waaaaay better than Roku.

First let me say that this is by far the BEST “GoogleTV” experience when it comes to wielding a remote and accessing Google-centric app content. And trust me, I go way back with Google TV products, back to the Sony TV that came with Google built-in and that big clunky QWERTY keyboard.

Here’s my breakdown: The Good: – Voice response is on point – Streaming options are greatly improved over prior google viewing options – Not limited to casting content, decent variety of apps -Price is phenomenal (I think I paid $49) -A solid value buy for 4K content on a budget – and the picture looks great on a good tv The Bad: – Googles setup process feels like something from 2010.

I can’t believe how long it took to key everything in and there was no option to use my phone as a remote. -Unlike Apple TV and other platforms, there was no way to set up my accounts and login via physically touching my phone to the device or going to a webpage on a computer to make multiple logins to services easier/faster.

-The guy at the Best Buy store told me this was screaming fast and I have a question: For who? While this is the fastest Google streaming device I have used, it still feels clunky compared to my AppleTV 4K.

Now to be clear, I’m not saying its slow overall, I’m saying it has its laggy moments that make it feel much less polished and zippy. -Most apps do not have a search field where you can dictate text, so you almost always have to say things in a way where you are asking Google.

While this might not sound like a big deal, it’s incredibly frustrating when you ask for a show, saying something like “Show me Yellowjackets on tv” and it brings up a YouTube video of actual yellow jackets instead of the Showtime tv series.

Other platforms have search fields within the apps where you can press a microphone button and simply dictate, rather than asking in question form and hitting a wall of confusion from the product. All of that said, this is an extremely valuable box and I love the direction Google is going.

This works great for a side monitor in my home office that is set up for television or streaming when I have downtime. Though the settings panel is lackluster, the device produces a great 4K HDR picture reliably and without issue and aside the shortcomings mentioned above, it more than gets the job done when wanting to stream.

As someone who has used many streaming boxes and many GOOGLE streaming options, I can tell you that this product (in my opinion) is the start of Google finally being on the right path to home streaming.

The Google Chromecast is an excellent choice when looking for A 4K streaming device. Especially when trying to load third party apps that are not from the Play store. Every app that I’ve installed has worked flawlessly and faster then any of the Android TV boxes or Amazon or Roku devices that you for sale all over the web and stores.

The speed and efficiency of this device hands down surpasses the Amazon fire stick, fire cube and the Roku 4K. I would say this device is most comparable to the Nvidia shield pro since I own both. This is one of the only few devices that’s running Android TV that’s under $100.

If you don’t know what the difference is between Android TV OS VS the stock version of Android OS, may I suggest you doing some research and educating yourself on the difference. If you’re looking for content without having to pay a monthly fee look no further there’s plenty of applications that come preloaded with lots of live TV, movies and series choices.

Not to mention Google will be dropping a free service with 50 free live channels some time later this year or early next year. I consider myself an avid movie and series watcher. Whether it’s on Netflix HBO go or a third party application that’s not from the Google Play store this by far is the device you’ve been searching for.

Also this is the only device where the operating system does receive updates. I have been using this device for over a year this is the seventh one that I bought from Best buy. I give these out as gifts to family and friends.

I really wanted to give a positive review for this Google Chromecast with Google TV. However, I find that I have a lot of the same problems that I’ve just come to expect with Google products. I would really like to have my phone as a second remote control, which apparently they do have a way of making happen but it just isn’t working for me this weekend.

Weekend. It’s ruining the chance I have to watch the show I want with my children in the hotel I am in. Adding insult to injury, I find that even in writing this review I’m unable to even see the text that I’m trying to type (edit: they have corrected it or my Android phone stopped glitching).

The voice to text feature is what I’m using. If there are any misspells or problems, chalk it up to Google. At least they’re consistent. This is my third Chromecast, and I have had eight different Roku units.

3rd Edit: I do think the interface and their remote control are nice. Honestly minus the glitches, I’m tempted to make it my primary TV interface. 2nd Edit: What I need is to sign into my hotel’s WiFi and I can’t do it with the remote (asks for box check which refreshes the page and removes the check immediately when I check it without letting me then select and press “submit”).

I was hoping that using my phone as a remote might be helpful, and apparently the Google TV/Chromecast allows for this to occur, but there’s cryptic instructions that fall apart only one step in as I’m told my pixel5a is incompatible with their app.

Seriously? Isn’t this a Google phone (Pixel) with a Google OS (Android) interfacing with a Google App (Remote control) for Google Chromecast? THAT’S why I say it’s typical Google shenanigans. everything is in Beta until it’s discontinued.

I bought this to replace an aging 2017 era Roku Premiere 4K (non HDR version) which was starting to feel sluggish and not as responsive as it once did.

The Streaming Stick 4K is much more compact (a dongle versus a countertop box) and can be plugged directly into the HDMI port so you don’t even need an HDMI cable to use it. Having said that, I needed an HDMI extender cable, which is not included in the package.

Roku does offer you that you can order one for free though, but if you ask me they should have just included it in the box. Other than that minor gripe, this is a really great value for the money, even at it’s $49.

99 retail price. Do try and get it though when on sale as the value is just way better. Speaking of features and usability the Streaming Stick 4K offers the updated Roku enhanced remote (the mid tier model, aka the one without the always on mic and rechargeable battery) which can also control the power and volume controls on your TV.

This is great because on one of the televisions I have uses the Roku as a pseudo cable box (we have Spectrum and use the Roku app) so not having to look for and use multiple remotes to control the TV is pretty nice.

The UI is typical Roku, so if you’ve used a Roku in the past it’s pretty much the same as before (NOT a bad thing!). If this is your first time using Roku just know the UI is pretty basic but again, that can be a good thing, especially for folks who may not be tech savvy.

All in all I’m giving this Roku 5 stars because of it’s value overall. It’s a typical Roku experience but for the money it’s tough competition for the likes of Apple TV (of which I also own), especially when you can get the Apple TV+ app on Roku.

If you’re looking for a streaming box/stick and are on a budget you can’t go wrong with Roku!.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is the 3rd Roku I have purchased. I have the oldest “shelf-top” Roku device with a remote that allows me to plug in some earphones without getting up. The jack is on the side of the remote.

This one is in the man-cave so when my wife wants to go to bed early, I’m not killing her with my Klipsch speakers LOL. The second Roku is a slightly smaller box that I was able to stick to the bottom of the TV – and is nearly invisible.

I like this one because it has the added option of turning on/off the TV with the Roku remote. This one is in the bedroom. This latest purchase is a simply stick, attached to the HDMI Port 2, and has recently become our go-to device instead of the set-top box with Android installed.

The remote is good, volume button controls the TV Vol, and not some arbitrary control within the stick itself. This presents one with a greater range of volume when one wants. The Mute button is right below the volume and is handy for phone calls, etc.

The only thing I wish was that I could attach a finger-mouse (2. 4Ghz or BT), but this stick is too small for external ports. However, that being said, this stick is now on our large TV in the Living Room for everyone to utilize.

I wish Roku made some reasonably priced Set-Top boxes with external ports for memory/devices, however, we are quite happy with this latest purchase – it does what it advertises and has many “surprises” with the settings I think folks will like.

And all the “free” TV shows and Movies on the Roku Channel are a Bonus! 4. 5/5 ☼’s.

Einer der für mich größten Vorteile gegenüber den, ebenso sehr guten Fire TV Sticks ist, dass die Benutzeroberfläche unglaublich aufgeräumt ist und sehr simpel gehalten ist, hier findet sich jeder zurecht.

Man kann seine bevorzugten Apps prominent auf der Startseite platzieren und diese dann schnell anwählen, sofern sie sich nicht wie z. B. Netflix sowieso schon auf der Fernbedienung befinden. Die Fernbedienung ist ok, aber nicht außergewöhnliches.

TV Ton kann darüber gesteuert werden, sodass man solange man sich in der Roku Welt bewegt keine andere braucht. Kleiner Wermutstropfen ist, dass ein paar Apps noch nicht verfügbar sind, das mag aber auch daran liegen, dass Roku erst seit kurzem auf dem deutschen Markt ist.

Ich spreche hier z. B. von den Magenta TV, Zattoo oder skyQ Apps. Die Bildqualität auf meinem LG OLED ist sehr gut. Mit 4K, HDR sowie Dolby Vision sind alle wichtigen Dinge vertreten und somit steht einem super Bild nichts im Weg.

Alles in allem finde ich den Stick echt überzeugend und würde ihn Stand heute jederzeit wieder wählen.

I purchased this unit to replace a Roku 2, which was getting a bit long on the tooth. The Express 4K plus is a basic device, albeit one capable of playing 4k content. It comes with everything one needs, the power cord and brick, an hdmi cable and the Roku voice remote, which also includes power, volume and mute controls for your television.

Setup was quick and easy, guided by an included quick start guide. After powering up the device, you are prompted to set up your wifi connection. You then log onto your Roku account if you have one, or set one up if you don’t.

The device then downloaded a software upgrade and loaded all the apps I’m currently subscribed to. That was the longest part of the process and only took a couple of minutes. I did have some issues at first, with HDMI error messages.

Suspecting that the issue might lie with my television, which was older and only had HDMI 1. 4, I manually set the display resolution to 1080p and the issue vanished. I would expect that actual 4K televisions would not have the issue as they should come with HDMI 2.

0, Performance is excellent, even Peacock loads quickly. I love the voice remote, it was very easy to hook up and connect to my television and all of the shortcut buttons are current. This is a more basic device, but one you can use to experience 4k programming on a 4k television.

It does require an HDMI connection to the television.

This player is junk. Barely lasted the 30 days before acting up so badly I had to constantly power it if and on. Of course it’s beyond the return window at this point. Player constantly lost internet connection, would randomly crash and so on.

Remote would double press functions when tapping a button once and seemed very poor quality. Tried factory reset, software was up to date, power cycled, no luck problems would always come back. Unit would run hot as well which probably contributed to the problems.

Used all cables supplied with unit, internet signal strong on every other device on the same shelf even stated strong on this device yet would still drop connection all the time. Just a bad product from Roku and should not be sold in my opinion.

I threw the thing in the trash as it is beyond the return window at this point. Don’t waste your time or money, pick a different product. I also own the Roku 4k stick and that stick and remote work just fine with no problems.

I purchased this product directly from the Roku website and was given a doscount, should have been free with all the issues it had.

The information about this device does not indicate 2 key issues: (1) the device must be “activated” online before you can use it (2) you must create a Roku account supplying an email address and your CREDIT CARD INFO in order to activate it! You cannot use this device at all, even if you do not want to use Roku streaming services or purchase content, without giving a credit card number and email address! So, even if you only wanted to use this to stream from a service for which you already have an account, you can’t do that unless you also create the Roku account and give Roku your credit card info.

This info is not included in the description. I also did not find it on the Roku web site when I researched the product before purchasing (even using their Before You Buy page). It’s not even on the box.

NOTHING indicates you must have a Roku account and give them your email address and credit card number. I even read the fine print on the box. I didn’t discover this was needed until I started trying to set up the device.

You get to a set up screen that says to enter your Roku account information. and it won’t continue without that. I started looking into creating a Roku account and discovered the credit card requirement.

Once you try to create an account on their web site, you can find an explanation of why you must provide payment information, and buried in there is that you need this account to activate your device: “A Roku account gives you access to an amazing selection of movies, TV shows, music and more from the Roku Channel Store.

You need a Roku account to activate your device and access entertainment across thousands of streaming channels. ” As you dig further, you can eventually find this: “There are no fees associated with creating a Roku account, but you will be asked to provide a payment method (e.

g. credit card) to set up Roku Pay. Having a payment method linked to your account allows you to purchase subscriptions for channels and services available through the Channel Store, add Premium Subscription on The Roku Channel, rent or buy movies and TV shows, and purchase Roku device upgrades, offers, and accessories.

” Setting up a Roku account even requires your DOB and gender! If you search online, you can find references to ways around the credit card–a somewhat hidden link to “skip and add later,” but that is apparently old information.

I went through the process (without finalizing) and the “skip” option I’d read about never shows up. You do have the option to use PayPal, but that’s essentially the same thing. Bottom line is you must give Roku lots of personal and payment info just to use the device, and nothing in their product description (or on box) says this.

IšverstiShow in original languageWhen I watched the demo, I came away thinking you stuck the stick in the side and that was it. It turns out you need a wall plug as well. I don’t have a spare socket or one close enough so I would have to re-arrange my room just for this to work.

Internet help suggests plugging the stick into your TV USB port for the power instead but I don’t know how safe that would be as it’s not mentioned in the leaflet. I was also under the impression, 5 minutes to set it all up.

I read the instructions from the box and was confused. Again, searched online and watched a very good Amazon tutorial. There is a LOT of setting up involved. Connecting your wi-if, pairing the remote etc.

Even getting the remote to work isn’t just a case of sticking batteries in. From my search for help, it also appears this isn’t the latest model (max)? The presentation I watched made out this one wasn’t even available on Amazon yet and QVC had all the stock? It seemed too good to be true and it is going to take a lot of effort (room change) to use this.

I only wanted it for Apple TV and I can already view that on my iPad. It might have to go back unused at my expense. Maybe QVC could focus on set up in their sales pitch?.

My mom passed away 3 years ago and her 5 year old ( Freeview only )tv was to good throw out and has been in our spare room being used only a few times so I thought , great update it for £30.

On air presentation said plug in and go. I have an Amazon account but after 3 hours of trying i’d had enough. My daughter got it working after a couple of hours but I still cannot get any terrestrial TV (or QVC) and you have to have passwords for EVERYTHING.

At 70 i find this very confusing and will defo not be loading the two ‘free’ apps. Lee should really not make it sound so easy, he knows what hes doing and dosnt show you the actual set up which is the hardest part for a non tec oldie.

I will keep it as my grandchildren will enjoy watching the Pluto childrens chanel, but I will be watching my trusted 19″ Freeview only upstairs. I do have thousands of new chanells on moms TV but im wary of downloading or watching anything in case i have to pay.

On the plus side i can get BBC i player and ITV Hub but thats on my main tv with my tv package anyway. I suppose this is a great product for very savvy tec and telly addicts but for a 70 year old its way to much trouble.

I may give it away in a couple of weeks as my patience is waring a bit thin!.

We have a Chromecast dongle on all of our TVs (or video display devices – like a spare computer monitor – we cast Aquarium Live or Fireplace Live to it ). We have all the smarts in our phone, tablets and computers.

No matter which room in the house or a friends house or office or etc (with a Chromecast enabled device) I am in, I can connect my desired content (YouTube TV, YouTube, Netflix, Pluto, Photos, Documents, Presentation, etc) to that device.

It would be nice if all video display devices had Chromecast built in. When I am traveling, I carry a couple of the Chromecast dongles with me. I can connect to the WiFi and connect (less than 2 minutes) my Chromecast dongle to the video display device and I can cast my presentation, pictures, you name it.

Everyone (most) has different viewing preferences. Your phone allows you have control of your preferences. Most everyone today has a smart phone and most everyone carries it, no matter where they go (bathroom, gym, driving their car, you name it).

By using your phone, tablet, or computer as the content source, you do not have to deal with the differences of all the different smart devices. You know you phone, you know your content. Enjoy you Chromecast.

If one is having problem with Chromecast, it is probably because they do not understand the simplicity of the device. They want to make it more difficult than it is.

I’ve been using a Chromecast for about 2 years now, At first i was fine with how it functioned and worked. Now I realize how much of a pain this thing is. Its heavily dependent on the Google Home App to set up, good luck having to set it up without a mobile device.

I also haven’t been able to find a way to switch what internet the device is on without having to reset the device which i have to pair to the Google Home App again, which feels totally unnecessary. I’ve been trying to watch stream content these pass couple of months and realized that there’s no way to change the video quality from a laptop, only from the app.

For example if I’m watching a stream/video on YouTube and its playing at 240p for whatever reason I cant simply change it using the browser from which I’m casting the content from. You either need to have a compatible remote or a working mobile device.

Setting up a Roku device was so much simpler wasn’t dependent on an app you would most likely delete if you don’t have any other Google Home compatible devices and it comes with a remote so its leagues better in setting up and changing settings.

I would most definitely recommend looking at a Roku device than buying a google Chromecast especially since theyre the same price.

I have two smart TV’s from different brands. They already have builtin many of the apps that I use such as YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney. They even support Chromecast using those apps.

However one of my TV’s does not support generic Chromecast. That is, I cannot stream video to it from a source where the TV doesn’t already have builtin the same app. All that I wanted to do was to add the capability to see my Nest security cameras on my TV.

I was able to buy this Chromecast device on sale for $19. 98. For that low price, my TV now supports this capability. I have a Google Nest Hub in the same room, so I can speak “Hey Google stream the Driveway Camera to the Master Bedroom TV”, and it works.

I rated the Chromecast 4 out of 5 stars because although the device does what I want, it’s still basically a “dumb” device. One cannot install any apps on it. One must stream from an app installed on another source like a smartphone, or computer.

The Roku should be totally unnecessary for me, but it isn’t, and it is simply, terrifically good at doing what it does. We have Comcast’s X1 DVR, which works as a gateway to various streaming services.

It is also, as is typical with Comcast devices, weirdly poor tech. Like their prior DVR, the the X1’s hard drive is too small for the modern HD world, and the device is irritatingly slow and cumbersome when trying to do anything other than watch live TV.

Happily for us, we have a Roku Ultra. It is just what I’d expect it to be — quickly responsive in letting us watch streaming services. Although Comcast provides us with fast Internet (~950mbps), we live in a world with so much EMI (electromagnetic interference) I just can’t feel confident that we’re taking advantage of our HD home entertainment that depends on it.

I love having an ethernet cable plugged into our Roku Ultra, knowing we’re getting that super fast, super clear Internet connection directly to our streaming device. I like redundant systems, so I like that our Roku also works over WiFi, so if there’s a problem with our Ethernet (very rare, but not impossible) we can just switch the Roku over to WiFi with no interruption in entertainment.

As a Comcast customer we also can use the Comcast streaming app (perpetually called beta) on the Roku, so when then DVR crashes (really, it’s a computer with a hard drive, so of course it will eventually crash), we can use the Roku to get most of the Comcast content we get through the DVR.

I’m almost terrifically happy with the Roku Voice Remote Pro that came with the Roku. Since our system uses a monitor and a receiver, Roku’s remote leaves us juggling remotes to turn the system on/off, and control volume.

The voice recognition is good, and the Roku then searches for what is requested among our streaming services. A feature I much appreciate is the Roku remote’s standard headphone socket, so I can easily mute our system when watching something loud without bothering everyone else in the house.

This is much easier than plugging in the cable to the front of the receiver having it lying on the floor between the receiver and our recliner. Roku’s remote uses USB charging (micro plug, not USB C) instead of AA batteries.

Yes, this reduces recycling of toxic batteries, but you can tell from holding the light weght that Roku’s remote has only a small rechargeable battery. Of course, after watching TV, we don’t want to walk all the way over to the entertainment center (+/- 7′ !) to plug in the remote every time, and there’s no handy USB charger by the recliner, so having a dead remote happens.

There’s a warning that comes on the screen, but somehow is easy to miss while watching something interesting enough to watch. A dead remote isn’t a catastrophe, because I just keep one of those small USB battery backups plugged into the USB port on the Roku, so we can run the Roku on that while it is recharging.

The Roku phone app works well, and provides a convenient alternative to using the remote. Also, the phone app gives me access to the wireless Bluetooth headphones that my socketless cellphone uses. I also like that the Roku powers down, when not in use, except for the tiny amount needed so it can turn back on when you press any button on the remote.

Saving a little bit of electricity is good.

I bought the Roku Ultra and a second regular Roku stick after both of my previous Roku sticks would not connect to the internet. As a sidebar, I did verify my wireless router was working properly and 5 other home devices were all connected and working.

This would happen randomly in the past where they would simply not connect, then after a while they just start working again. After several days of neither of them working I looked for alternatives to little avail.

It seems every streaming device has some recurring issue according to the reviews, so I decided to try again hoping they had received enough feedback on their product to address the problem, also hoping the Ultra may work better.

It lasted less than a month before I got the same error message showing a failure to connect. One again, all other home devices were connected and working properly. It’s own system settings verified it was receiving a strong signal but would not connect.

It took at least a dozen tries over 2 days using every troubleshooting technique I could come up with. On the third day, I started to disconnect the device and return it to Best Buy since I had purchased the extended warranty this time.

On a whim, I decided to turn the TV on one last time. It immediately worked like it had never had an issue. I’m frustrated at this point with Roku in general. Not just because of the connection issues, but more so due to the complete lack of customer service.

After finally locating their phone number through an internet search (which was a challenge in itself, they intentionally discourage calling by NOT publishing it) I called only to be told over and over by the automated system that my expected wait time was 15 minutes, then 12 minutes, then 25 minutes, then 18 minutes.

you get the point. After 30 minutes of the computer telling me random wait times to be expected I had enough and hung up. I’m convinced their intention is to get people to do just that so they can avoid dealing with frustrated customers and not have to admit they have issues.

I have a smart TV with all the apps on it. However, my remote is the worst! It is slow, and I seem to have to point it exactly right to get it to respond. All my kids have Roku’s and swear by them, so I thought I would get one too since they said it will make my tv watching so much better and less frustrating (not sure if I need more reasons to sit around and watch tv, but okay) I will try it.

I love this. it is fast, I can change the channel from any angle or location in my room. I can move the app tiles around to put the ones i use the most up front. My remote has 4 preset channels – Netflix, Hulu, Disney and AppleTV PLUS 2 extra that you can program.

Which was so easy. I click on the app I want to add (like Peacock) hold down the “OK” button for a second and it asks which button to program “1” or “2” and boom its programmed. another think was I was like great, now I’m going to have to sign into all my streaming apps.

guess what? No. you can sit there and manually enter the info if you want, or you can either scan the QR code to log in or do it online with the security code displayed on the screen. I think I had one app that made me manually do it.

not sure if this is a Roku thing or it depends on the app. but it was EASY. Lastly, alot of discussion about YouTubeTV no longer being one of the apps on the newer Roku’s. this may have been the case but mine has it.

I did a little searching and it appears that right before i bought my new Roku Google and Roku resolved their differences an they were back in business with the app and it is now available. Although if for some reason yours still does not have it, you can access it through your regular Youtube account app.

Hope this review helps because there are so many varying reviews and opinions out there. Sometimes I think people just do not know how to resolve their issue or had different expectations. this was well worth it.

I bought mine on sale at Target for 69. 99 not 99. 99 which made it even better!.

I have had a few Roku over the years and each one of them works better than the last. I don’t know what all these other bad reviews are about except maybe they are paid shills to try to make Roku look bad because they come up against the established big companies.

Ever since I have had a Roku I have saved money, gotten better things to watch plus realized how much more exciting it is to get away from preprogrammed TV. Roku is user friendly and easy to set up and worth every penny.

I bet if any of these bad reviewers had called customer service they would have gotten a free replacement. That’s what made me realize that those one star commenters are probably people who are paid by Roku’s competition to try to make Roku look bad.

I have two TV’s and my Mom’s house hold of four TV’s making a total of six TV’s that all have had Roku’s over 7 to 8 years and they all work perfectly and have had different reasons for replacements over the years.

Roku’s probably need to be replaced around three years because it is just a little device that gave you plenty of service for your money. Also you always get new features that can’t be updated on your older Roku.

Anyways I did not like seeing all those one stars and put my 8 year experience down for others to see how good Roku is. Good job Roku!!.

Like many on here, same issue with HDCP error. Roku has offered no actual solution. They keep saying to change the HDMI cable but obviously you cannot do that because the HDMI connection is built into the steaming stick, this just highlights the intelligence of the so called ‘technicians’ you deal with.

I have done all the display modifications as well. No resolve. You basically need to unplug the TV and the streaming unit and it works again. It just is a royal pain when you have a mounted flat screen with hidden outlets.

Roku will not admit it but it is a software issue on their end and they pretend they have never heard of this issue when I know it affects at least 1 in 4 people who have a Roku streaming based platform.

I mean my sample size is small, just personal relationships, but my numbers came back 1 in 4 making it and issue for 25% of the people who use Roku. Most people just accept the issue and never leave a review but if everyone left a review on here for the same issue, the product would be probably a 2 star.

You would think they would actually resolve this issue by now instead of ignoring the problem like it will magically go away.

My daughter bought the Roku 4k streaming stick for me as a 2020 Xmas present without the Bestbuy protection plan. Although I am very pleased with Roku streaming service I am dissatisfied with the life of the remote batteries which die after 3-4 mths.

I contacted Roku customer support for the manufacturers warranty. They advised that a firmware update might solve the problem via settings. After 6 days with 100% new batteries the level has dropped to 96% and continues to drop.

Roku offered two options either use the Roku app remote as a substitute or discontinue use and send back everything remote + cables etc to Roku Canada at my cost. They would then send back a replacement remote etc from USA.

I feel that this is very poor customer service for a known product defect resulting in my having to stop use/interruption of Roku streaming while this return procedure is in progress + my having to pay for shipping product back to Roku Canada.

Other companies know how to provide superior customer service by sending a replacement without the need for the customer who has already been (1) inconvenienced by a faulty product but additionally (2) having to disrupt service and return the defective remote.

The app (remote) is good but does not have all of the features that the physical remote does.

Purchase this stick 2 months ago. The stick does what it’s supposed to do, stream media from various providers, but then again so do others. What is a deal breaker for me, and this is huge. It’s an always on device.

So if you fall asleep with it on, (which I often do) it will stay on. For example both on my TV and monitor it has auto detect, so if it detects no content on, the TV automatically turns off. Most TVs and monitors have this.

However since this is an ALWAYS ON device, my TV or monitor doesn’t turn off. I’ve woken up the next morning realizing my TV was running all night. That’s a lot of electricity wasted not to mention it shortens the life of the TV.

In case you’re wondering what I mean by ALWAYS ON device, even if your turn off auto-play on Netflix or Prime (which I did), the Roku stick doesn’t turn off after the episode is over, it just goes to some weird screen saver mode, thus the TV believes it’s content and stays on.

There is no auto-off feature! Also, in 2 months, I’ve gone through 4 sets of batteries, and I hardly use this device. Seems the controller is constantly doing some thing. I change the batteries, use it once or twice, the remote just sits there not being used, but yet 2 weeks later, the batteries are dead.

BTW the batteries on my TV last me almost a year. Bottom line, I’ve only used this a handful of times because of reasons stated above, I wish I could return it.

We already had a ROKU Ultra on our main TV and added it after we cut the cable. It works great, gives us everything we need in terms of TV viewing. The Streaming Stick was an inexpensive way to add the same capability to the TV in our guest room that is separate from the rest of the building.

Installed easily and works great. If you have or are going to cut the cable, I can recommend Roku. What we do is pay a small monthly fee for Netflix but only when there is something we want to watch.

When we are done, we cancel it and only renew when there is something else we want to see. Since we have Prime, TV comes with it so that’s a bonus and since we installed them before YouTube goes away, we will continue to have it on our Roku’s.

Pros: – We’ve owned every generation of Apple TV, all still working and still in use. This is an incremental but important evolution with some vital improvements. A must-have upgrade if already immersed in the Apple eco system.

– eARC at last on Apple TV! Finally all audio from all devices (live TV, TV apps, PS5, etc. ) can be returned by hdmi in Atmos quality and sent to stereo paired HomePods. We’ve just disposed of a massive black-box amplifier, 7 speakers, a subwoofer and miles of wiring.

Living room looks huge again!- new Siri remote is a joy to use and resolves many issues with the old one. – effortlessly operable from any other apple device in the house, even Apple watches, with the remote-app baked-in to the new iOS.

– works perfectly as a hub for Apple HomeKit. When paired with HomePods and HomeKit equipment, enables us to manage all of our lighting, heating, music and even coffee machine via Siri commands and shortcuts.

Cons: – the new 120hz frame rate capability is currently of limited use as there’s virtually no content available- still expensive for a streaming box when considering the competition- external design indistinguishable from previous models and a bit boring for an “exciting” new Apple product.

Awesome colour range across all other Apple devices. Apple TVs are often on clear display in the main room of the house just below the main focal point so probably get looked at a lot. Who decorates their living room in black? Why does Apple TV only come as a featureless black box?.

It works well with a snappy interface and plenty of available apps. Probably the best of breed streaming box, but. If you don’t game, save money & get the 32GB version. Extra memory offers no advantage for streaming or performance.

The remote control is really good, especially the pseudo-jog wheel function and Siri voice integration. It’s also not infrared from what I can tell so you don’t need to point it accurately. It doesn’t have any separate digital audio out which makes it less flexible with older HT amps like mine.

It’s all via a single HDMI out. Setup is ridiculously easy if you already have an iPhone; just hold it near the ATV and it sets up networking and account details magically! ATV+ is a bandwidth hog but it results in excellent quality streaming video though there’s not a huge library yet.

It’s unfortunately expensive and you’re a captive to it if you want Airplay2 casting from the Apple ecosystem (for now anyway). Really only worth it for Apple die-hards.

Pros: Bought for kids, had it connected to old crt TV via hdmi to scart converter. I was amazed at the picture quality compared to cable. Was easy to setup and remote is a good size for small hands and I can get signal to device even whilst pointing upwards, if there are any obstacles in front of it.

The device can be connected to ypur mobile via app which makes searching very easy. All popular streaming services can be watched ie disney, prime, netfix and theres also roku channel which has alot of free tv and movies.

Once you have setup a roku account in order to install the device you can remove your credit card details via account settings on your mobile to prevent accidental purchases. Mobile feature makes it so easy to just disconnect and take into another room.

Very cheap compared to monthly cable charges so will probably purchase another. Cons: I tried the screen mirror but oonly displays a frozen picture of mobile screen. Not sure why, will try miracast. Having a lot of problems with videos buffering on youtube and disney although roku channel is working fine past few days, again not sure.

Its been working fine since purchase.

Claims to be “easy setup”. Its easy to plug in, but then it needs you to register and it needs a credit card number before it will even let you use the box, then most of the main channels (all 4, itv hub, uktv play) all need you to register before you can watch anything.

Far from easy to use, I’m computer literate and it took me over 2 hours to get it all set up and register with all the channels. The hardware is pretty good, but has one glaring issue, It only supports 2.

4 gig WiFi, there is no 5g support. These were apparently first produced in 2016, which is the excuse for them not having 5g wifi. The hardware could of been easily modified/improved at factory level to include 5g, so I don’t know why Roku failed to do it.

Its a glaring oversite! There are thousands of channels you can add, though many of them are junk and just dont work properly, but if you rifle through the trash there are some good channels to be found.

In conclusion: If they added 5g wifi and removed the need to input a credit card while registering the box it would get a higher rating. The fact there is so many non working trash channels also reduces the rating.

But, overall a very nice responsive box, which gives good picture and sound quality. The remote control works a heck of s lot better thanthe older Roku boxes.

I first bought a Roku stick back in 2015 but when Roku Express became available a year later, I snapped one up. It might be the best $30 I’ve ever spent. Almost six years (and a 6,000-mile move to Asia) later, my Express is still working fine, although the remote doesn’t interact as quickly with the box as it used to.

My only gripe is that I can’t control the TV’s volume or turn it off (or on) with the remote, but I knew that when I bought it and what do you expect for thirty bucks anyway? I’ve more than received my money’s worth.

What initially sold me was the fact that the Express box doesn’t need to be plugged into a wall outlet but is powered by the TV itself. Roku’s selection and ease of use speak for themselves. Would I recommend a Roku Express to a friend? Absolutely, although I suspect an Express 4K+ or Premiere is what I’LL upgrade to when the time comes and some friends might prefer something a little more high-end like the Ultra.

All in all, Roku has been a Godsend. I cut the cord in 2016 and KNOW I’ve saved thousands of dollars since because I only use free channels. I wish I could watch Crackle, all Roku Channel programs and especially Pluto TV here in the Philippines, but that’s the way it goes.

I am very satisfied with this Roku Streaming Stick+. In fact, this is the third Roku I have purchased. One was a gift for my mother and the other two were for two other televisons. This streaming stick was inexpensive and real easy to install.

I love the added features such as, options to change the screen themes and have themes that automatically change to reflect the changing seasons and holidays. That is really neat. I also like that the interface is clean and not busy.

This makes it easier for me to see what I am looking for. Also, there are a wealth of apps available to install. The remote that comes with the Roku Streaming Stick is easy to use. It’s lightweight and fits well in my hand.

The only thing, which is not a biggie, I keep accidently pressing the mute button because it is on the right side under the volume button. I wish it were higher up on the side of the remote or even on the front.

That aside, I am enjoying every minute of streaming with the Roku Streaming Stick+.

The good: I am a Roku fan. Over time I have had Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon streaming devices. Over time I have also gotten rid of Apple TV and my Amazon Fire Sticks and Fire TV Cube, sold my older Roku devices, and moved pretty much all in on Roku+ 4K.

In the Chicago area we’re dominated by Xfinity, and because Roku allows you to download the Xfinity beta app and stream your cable subscription through your Roku device, this has really helped sell me on their devices and moving on from their competitors.

I have one of these Roku+ 4K sticks in my basement hooked up to a 75″ Samsung and Sonos Playbar, Sonos Sub and two Sonos Play 1, and it’s lights out. Video is sick. Sound is off the charts. The one Roku+ remote allows me to operate my TV, the Sonos kit, and obviously the Roku+ 4K stick.

Volume, mute, settings, etc. These devices are lightning fast, allow a vast amount of channels to download, don’t go over the top in advertising and pushing their content on you, have an app if you hate remotes, and frankly, just provide a seamless user experience.

Downsides: 1) I bought a second, exact same Roku+ 4K stick for our master bedroom. I thought “same device as in the basement – stream Xfinity in bedroom, Netflix, Disney+. have all the other channels on our Roku, control the TV, control the volume.

so on”. Well, for whatever reason, this second Roku+ 4K stick remote does not play ball with my Bose Solo 5 soundbar, which is also hooked up to our TV. I’ve messed with all the audio settings on my TV, the Bose remote, and the Roku+ remote.

No dice. So, that whole “let’s just use one Roku remote” thing for our bedroom, like we have in our basement, simply doesn’t work. I ended up buying a Sideclick snap-on remote for the Roku+ remote in our bedroom.

That kinda ticked me off (not that I am against Sideclick. I’ve bought them for Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices in the past. I just hate that they’re like $25-$30), because I could have just gone with the less expensive Roku 4K Premiere, bought the Sideclick along with it, and saved myself the extra cost on the Roku+ versus the Roku 4K Premiere.

2) With this second Roku+ 4K stick in our bedroom, I’ve also experienced a few times where I’ve turned on the TV and received a “your device is overheating” message on the screen. So, you unhook it from the HDMI port, unplug the power, let it cool down for awhile, then re-install.

Not the worst thing by any means, but I’ve had the first Roku 4K+ stick in our basement for two and a half years and never experienced a single hiccup, ever. In short: Samsung + Roku + Sonos = flawless Samsung + Roku + Bose = good.

Had Roku Streaming Stick (3800R) for about two years. Unfortunately, 3800R doesn’t support Airplay since Roku introduced it with the latest (9. 4 OS) update. So, we decided to replace it with Streaming Stick+ (3810R).

Unplugged the old one, plugged in the new one, device updated itself to the latest software, hopped on over to Roku’s website, activated the Stick+ and device automatically downloaded and installed all our apps from the old device (login credentials for each and every app had to be re-entered on the new device, which is to be expected).

Noice! To be honest, we don’t see any difference in speed between the two devices, I think maybe the new one’s remote has a mute button which the old one didn’t. Other than that, don’t know, both were connected to our 5Ghz network, none of the apps were or are lagging, BUT Airplay is now supported and it works as advertised.

Still have to try casting from our iPad to all four Sonos speakers and Stick+ at the same time. Should work. We’ll see. On a side note. Do not forget to check Roku’s forum/website for a list of Roku devices that support Airplay, if you’re interested in buying a Roku and want to use Airplay.

Not all devices support Airplay even if they are updated with the latest 9. 4 Roku OS! Anyway, if you’re interested in Roku, I’d suggest to at least start with Streaming Stick+ and skip Express, Express+ and Premiere.

With Stick+ you get long range wireless, volume and power controls on the remote (plus mute button), and 4K support. Others either have one feature, but not the other. So, it’s worth to spend 10-20$ more on Stick+.

Short of going all out and splurging on Nvidia Shield, Roku is your best choice for a streaming device. Ok, maybe some Android boxes like Verizon’s and TiVO’s boxes have some advatnages over Roku, but if you’re familiar with the Roku ecosystem and want to freshen up, go for it.

Especially when/if on sale.
