I bought it to replace an old DVD burner in an enclosure I bought many years ago. One thing to note that the plastics in the front of the drive didn’t match the older drive at all, so I couldn’t replace the front plate to make the enclosure look nice.
I don’t know if that’s this drive or just the older drive was so old. UPDATE Mar 2021: With only very light use it has already started to fail. It has problems reading movies and has become very noisy when spinning up.
Unfortunately the warranty only covers repairs, not replacement.
I have five desktops at my home around the house. All the DVD/CD Drives (ASUS DRW-24B1ST) in the computers are the same; namely these. Most computers have two; so a total of eight drives. These are reliable and have worked over the 8-10 years of service.
I highly recommend these Drives. The price is right and have worked more reliably than Lite-On Drives that I used a long time ago. Buy these ASUS Drives as you won’t be disappointed.
Great DVD burner. Was easy to setup. Did not install drivers and content from included disc but will do that promptly. It is a faster driver than my old HP which was in the desktop before. I will not be ripping CDs/DVDs more than 10 discs per day from now on.
I think that may have contributed to the old drive breaking in the first place. Then again, it was a 7 year old drive and that is close enough to the lifespan of these things anyway.

Well, I saw this optical drive on BestBuy. com at such a low price I had to purchase it ! I actually installed it in an external optical drive enclosure and have been using this drive thru USB 3. 0 with my HP 17 inch Envy laptop.
I have not used the supplied software at all. Well, I have only burnt a few Audio CD’s all successfully! Pokiosoft Ez Audio – Da Extractor and Apple Itunes is what I usually use back and forth for Audio CD chores.
It even works with Foobar2000 universal audio/video media player with the Audio CD Authoring/Burning plugin – it is amazing with Foobar – so quick quick quick and supports. mp4 ,. m4a, mp3 etc all in a single playlist for effortless Audio CD discs made.
About the speed process of this drive’s burning , it is noticeably quicker than the slim-line optical drives that cost 25 to 40 dollars online. It is very very very nice to have this drive when you burn many optical discs lets say at a siting to gift out to others.
It is very quick, and I have yet to encounter any problems with my ASUS optical drive! I very very very much recommend this drive. And at the price it was selling at the time I bought it on Best Buy, it is a must purchase! Just remember, if you want to use it with your laptop make sure you have reliable drive enclosure.
Read reviews of such items to make sure you have a problem-free experience using it with your pc ! Happy buying ! Happy burning! postscript Remember that if you use an external drive enclosure with this drive, it will have an external power adapter to be able to use this drive with your computer.
The way I use it with my laptop, it is a little inconvenience to have to lug another power adapter and to find an extra power source plug-in at the restaurant/cafe to be able to use it. Make sure you find two power outlets- one for your laptop another for your optical drive ! You can also purchase a dual-outlet power bank to use for your laptop and this drive properly configured- which is what I will probably buy in the future!.
I was using this to rip some of my CDs to my MP3 collection, and after about 20-30 discs it simply stopped being mountable. I tried a different cable, but it simply isn’t being seen by the computer anymore.
The tray works, and the it spools up the disc, but the computer does not see that there is a drive or mountable disc. I have also tried to use the drive in Linux and Windows. However, the ancient PlexWriter that I’ve had for around 20 years is still chugging away; it also outlasted a Lite-On DVD-RW drive.
It would be nice to have the ability to read DVDs and BluRays, as well, but I guess that’s not going to happen. Perhaps the optical drive is truly dead these day.
My refurb I7 machine that I bought from MicroCenter (also really pleased) came without a CD/DVD writer, only a reader. Well, it was a bargain. My external USB DVD writer died. Simple solution, replace the reader with a writer.
Open case, take old drive out, put new drive in. Seamless bootup. Seamless use. Happy customer!.
Lite-On 24x internal DVD writers offer the fastest DVD recording speed among other similar devices. With these Lite-On DVD writer users can create and share their home videos, back-up critical information, create digital photo albums,.
I bought this drive to replace my old one which had failed and it has just worked as expected no problems at all. The fitting was a bit awkward but that was my fault I fit the drive with the case in situ thinking it would be easier but I was wrong.
The drive is a bare bones drive but I had all the cables and screws from my old drive so not a problem. If your fitting this to a new build you will need the data and power cables plus the fitting screws.
I had my own burning software but there is plenty of freeware stuff out there if you need any. For the price and being double layer it is amazing value for money, I don’t do much burning these days but it has done all I asked of it so far on double layer discs.
CD read/writer often a forgotten item in today’s desktops. My old one was causing too many errors, ordered this one for a replacement (mainly used for ripping my CD collection just now) – clearly should have done this at the start as it whips through at a far greater pace than the old one and so far error free! Fitted in no more time than it took to shut down/power off and reboot W10, and worked straight off the bat with just a simple test in the EAC app.
The only negative is this is quite a noisy rascal at times, not an issue for me but probably not a good choice in a media player. Excellent value!.
Recently i purchased an Asus dvd burner, which is what i always buy out of habit. Well this time it didn’t work in my effing computer because it wasn’t compatible with windows 7 if you can believe that!!?? So i bought this lite on dvd burner because that is the brand that was in my computer from the factory.
The lite on dvd burner works great with any version of windows you know, like you’d expect lol. It actually feels heavier than the Asus burner. It plays commercial dvds perfectly and i swear they look better but i could bee imagining it lol.
The Asus DRW 24B1ST Internal Optical Drive allows you to read, write and rewrite all optical CD and DVD formats. You can burn CDs up to a maximum speed of 48X while the threshold is 16X for DVDs. The DVD burner takes advantage of SATA interface to deliver excellent read-write speeds and response time.
The rewritable SATA optical DVD drive performs reliably and consistently with minimal write-cycle failures thanks to the Auto Vibration Reducing System. Suitable for desktops, the internal optical drive could be mounted vertically or horizontally.
I purchased this as a plug and play replacement for an old internal DVD drive that stopped working. What I received from B&H was not a full retail item. It was basically just the drive and a set-up DVD in a plain box.
No cables, mounting pieces, or manual was provided. This was not a problem for me, but be aware. As for the set-up DVD, there was some trial software and (theoretically) a firmware update. I passed on the trial software.
The CD’s firmware update simply took me to a dead AUSA web link. I looked up the firmware on the ASUS website and it is some program intended to make the drive work in a more green manner. The downloaded.
rar file was not recognized by Windows, so I just decided to pass on it. I haven’t had a chance to use this drive much yet, but it seems to be working as expected.
I am always amazed when I find myself in need of an upgrade or replacement part and find out what I’ve been missing over the past few years with improvements and performance that have been made. I was stuck with no ATA connections for an old DVD unit I was recycling to install on a budget build.
New ASRock mobo has straight SATA connections. I went to explore what drives were available and had to make a tough decision based on many reviews complaining about DOA’s and horribly noisy drives. Bottom line, I was surprised and impressed with the speed and ultra quite operation of this model ASUS DRW-24F1ST drive.
I could not hear the drive at all above the whispering of the CPU fan. really. I put it through its paces with numerous DVDs and just shook my head in disbelief. This drive is in an Antec 300 case which affords some good sound dampening but not enough to make this drive as quiet as it was.
This drive was well packaged with a firm ribbed envelope like the kind you find on new toner cartridges. I think that 90% of the problems with poor performing, DOA, or damaged drives are the result of bad shipping packaging.
If you have this model and it is noisy, it shouldn’t be. I recommend this one and will probably buy a couple more ahead of time for a couple more build outs in the coming months. 12/4/2019 Updated system from Win 7 Pro sp1 to Win10 Pro build 1909.
Now device manager reports “Windows cannot start this hardware device”. Others report success with Win10, but no joy here. Can’t find a driver on ASUS. Researching more for solution or will buy new drive.
Maybe or maybe not a good optical drive, am tempted to remove the ASUS branded one like it that has over 5,000 reviews & install into my new PC (& it’s 6th home) & install this one in the secondary computer, at least I know it works, has burned over 500 DVD’s & probably close to 200 CD’s.
I have a hunch there’s a good reason why ASUS didn’t stamp their name on the front, these are probably optical drives that’s ‘scratch & dent’, or otherwise didn’t meet the standards for top quality, something’s up for the drive to ship in an ASUS padded bag & they won’t put their signature on the front.
It’s also my first ever (& last) ASUS item that I’ll purchase under these conditions. On the other hand, may had been all that was wrong was the force needed to install the power cable, but why take a chance? The bad thing was that the cost of return shipping for a swap of the real ASUS brand, would had caused me to go in the hole (the new optical drive costing more than outright purchase after 15% restocking free & return shipping).
The ONLY reason why I’m leaving two eggs is that is was well packaged by both ASUS & Newegg, and shipped fast. If I had to leave any eggs for the product itself, would be zero. Come on ASUS, don’t send your leftovers (or rejects) as NO NAME to retailers w/out quality control practices in place.
The power & data cables ought to pop right in. This reminds me of an outfit that sells lookalike drives as ‘White Label’ ones, sometimes these are on promo on the Newegg site. At any rate, a corporation like ASUS doesn’t need a cash infusion this bad.
Sell your rejects totally unmarked (including all production line markings) to corporations that’ll place their own branding on these, rather than pass off to your loyal customer base. True ASUS customers are looking for quality, not 2nd rate products.
The LG Super-Multi GH24NSB0 DVD rewriter features a 24x DVD+R write speed, 48x CDR write speed and supports M-DISC for superior reliability in data storage. Designed for storage needs that demand consistency, the GH24NSB0 read and write in CD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD RAM formats giving you the option to choose the media best suited for each task.
The M-DISC uses a patent rock-like recording surface instead of organic dye to etch your data onto a disc. The M-DISC has been tested and proven to outlast standard DVDs currently on the market.
I’m somewhat pleased with my purchase, although I think the computer was a bit pricey. The processor speed is nice and the screen resolution is great. In order to accommodate my needs (multiple storage drives for video editing), I had to purchase a Thunderbolt port and an optical drive.
This added another $75 to the purchase price. I’ve used the computer for a month now. The keyboard is somewhat difficult to see unless it is bathed in bright light and the touch and feel of the left and right click on the keypad is clunky.
I can process large video files quickly and the screen renders a beautiful image.
I bought this writer. I didn’t need it right away but was ready when I did need it. I finally opened the box and there’s some crazy adapter cable I need. So I’m returning it to get a USB -C to USB connector.
So I suppose if you have a cable to connect this writer up – it would work. I didn’t see anywhere on the outside of the box which connector is recommended.
This LG, Multi 24x DVD+ Internal DVD+RW/CD-RW Drive, is as good as you can get, for your PC. The previous player/burner was also an LG make, and I wore the heck out of it. This unit is worth every penny you spend, and will give you an honest and a very finished product.
Installation was fairly simple, as all you will need is a Phillips and a flat screwdriver and some agile fingers. Remember to clean out the box, as dust does collect pretty quickly inside.
CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW/RAM/ +R/RW +/-R DL M-DISC/+M SL read and write compatible, CD Family and DVD-ROM read compatible. Enhanced IDE (ATAPI) interface : SATA interface. Large buffer memory 0.5MB.
We were not able to get the RW functions to work. Would not erase to an existing DVD RW or write to a new DVD-RW. Reads DVD and CD just fine. Had to replace with a Lite-on DVD-RW drive

The LiteOn iHAS124 with SATA interface is a 24x DVD-writer and can be thanks to the Super All Write Technology also DVD-RAM media read and write. By means of the smart write function can be many 16 x media with 24x writing and achieves optimal writing quality the perfect coordination of the write strategy to the respective medium.
LiteOn has been my optical drive brand of choice for almost two decades. I have about 20 LiteOn drives in service on various PCs, and some have burned hundreds of CDs and DVDs. Many points in their favor: * solid construction * hardware rarely fails (actually, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one go bad) * compatible even with cranky systems * better performance at the same nominal speed * better at reading degraded discs * compatible with nearly all burning software * burns almost never fail * upgradeable firmware, tho I’ve never needed to do this.
An interesting point about “cranky hardware”: I have an old MacG4 that is hardcoded to a DVD-RAM drive that can only read/write scarce, expensive 2. 4GB discs (and it can’t read burned CDs at all). So naturally I wanted to upgrade it to a proper DVD-RW so it could read standard disks (tho word around was that this could not be easily done and requires a Mac firmware hack).
Tried several drives from my parts closet, and the ONLY one that worked was a LiteOn. The G4 IDs it correctly and it works 100%. No hack needed.

I found that both of my old DVD writers wouldn’t write. It appeared to happen after a Windows 10 upgrade. I fitted this unit, and I was back in action straight away without any fuss. Very happy with the LG Hitachi but not very happy about the reason for changing.

Reviews From Real Customers
– I would definitely order another one of these drives and will heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a new burner to replace the old worn out one you have now 🙂 Having to punch the eject button 10 or more times to eject the disc? Yep.
– For anyone who happens to be looking for it: The old (back in the day) utility by Nero that would scan the surface of a disc that you had just burned to make sure there were no damaged or bad blocks on your brand new disc is alive and well in two forms.
One, under the old name of “Nero DiscSpeed” (the “Surface Scan” feature) has not been updated since 2012. Shocking yes, but still more shocking is it still works perfectly with Windows XP, 7, 8, 8. 1, and 10! It can be downloaded just about anywhere by Googling ‘nero discspeed 12’.
– The other place the surface scan feature can be found is now somewhat hidden. It’s partially buried under several clicks and isn’t even mentioned in the documentation. It can be found in any new version of Nero Burning ROM or Nero Platinum 2018.
(Maybe older versions but I have this one). I can’t give a tutorial here about all Nero products but to use the “surface scan” which is now called “SecurDisc”, to check and ensure that this drive and whatever discs you’re using are actually rock-solid burns, just open Nero Platinum (which is only kind of a “Dashboard” to Nero’s products) and select “Nero Express” or “Nero Burning ROM”.
After you’ve got all your files ready to burn, with say, Nero Burning ROM burning an (extremely common method) of “CD-ROM UDF”, when it’s time to select the details of the burn, click the “Burn” tab all the way to the right and click to place a checkmark in “Verify written data” then under that, “SecurDisc Surface Scan”.
The surface of your disc will then be thoroughly tested after the burn is complete. – THAT is how I test a drive and disc combination and this drive seems to be without flaw. EDIT: It’s now May 2018, the drive has been used for 7 months and still going strong.
The only thing I haven’t tried is burning an M-Disc. They’re just entirely too expensive. $60US for a 20-pack. Windows 10 version currently used is 17134. 48 (as of May 2018). As for the people complaining about burn speed, like I mentioned above, it is largely dependent on the disc, not only the drive.
One guy said it takes him 3 hours to burn a movie (4. 35GB) DVD when it used to take 30 minutes. Well, I just burned one today with this drive (the full 4. 35GB) in 6:40 (6 minutes, 40 seconds (at 8X speed) on a plain old Memorex DVD+R.
Disc says it will burn at 16X but I don’t trust that with cheap discs so I use 8X.
I bought this burner because the fools at “Computers for Classrooms” in Chico sold me a refurbished HP Pentium computer with a CD/DVD drive in it that would not write to DVDs! Their rationale when I called them? “Well DVDs are on the way out as a backup medium.
” But what about those of us who are still making DVD movies (or computer file backup discs)? Eventually, the drive gave up – no longer being able to watch commercially-made DVDs! Eureka! Now I get to replace that really poor “read-only” drive with a more current drive.
After a little research, I decided on a DVD burner that could also write to “M-discs” in the DVD format. Lite-on, LG, and Asus seemed to be the main contenders in the DVD drive business, with LG and Lite-on being the only manufacturers to also make “M-Disc ready” burners.
That’s fine, ASSus previously scre**d me on an ATX motherboard, and Lite-on I have no hands on experience with.
Do not recommend. Would not purchase again. Even if LG repairs/replaces this dive, I’ll never have confidence it it. I’m going to look for a different brand of MDisc-capable drive.

This is a good CD/DVD-RW drive if you still need one. SATA connectors. Straightforward to install and works as advertised. I’ve had no dramas with Windows 10, Exact Audio Copy and Nero using it.
I was relieved that they still sell DVD drives, and for a great price at that. I was expecting as optical drives get phased out this might get more expensive and harder to find. I’m pleasantly surprised to find what I need at PB.
Ok so the images shown are outdated. The drive does not has white signage on the front, instead it just has M-Disc on the left and LG in the middle embossed. The disc drive will make a noise when the computer is booted but that is unavoidable as it is just checking to see if there is a disc in it.
LED indicator is green. Not much else that can be said about a disc drive, It is the cheaper of the two available her on PB that is not Blu-Ray. Very easy to install.

this combo drive isgreat!!! installed it easily and simply and came with a variety of suite options, with quick dvd watching and cd burning as well as hi speed cd input. one of the better combo drives from a well respected company at an excellent price.
snap this up ifyou want everything short of dvd burning!.
NewEgg is always the best but I am not happy with the fact that they have switched to UPS as their default shipping option. Plainly stated, UPS stinks! They are slow, make frequent errors and packages sometimes arrive in degraded (beat up) condition.
FedEx is best; almost always a day early too or, at the latest, they’re right on time! I’m a little bummed that NewEgg is pumping UPS now. Hopefully it wont tarnish their stellar reputation. UPS may be a tad cheaper but so what? The shipping service is less than satisfactory much of the time.
Two of the last orders I placed were a day late due to either package routing errors or just plain slow service (by UPS). One of my friends had a similar problem as his package was routed to another state by mistake (his 3 day option turned into 5).
But I still love NewEgg and I’m glad that we at least still have the option to use FedEx. It’s worth the extra dime every time!.
overall this is a very good combo drive. its lightening fast so long as you can get over the extra noise. as for me I dont use it much anyway I have another drive also from Lite-On to use so I don’t have to hear it that much.
Designed for storage needs that demand consistency and reliability, the GH24NS90 read and write in CD, DVDR, DVDRW, and DVD RAM formats. Burn and protect your data with LG Feature a 24x DVD R write speed.
I wasnt sure if a standard internal DVD drive like this would work as a replacement for the innards of a failing external drive, but it did. The toughest part was figuring out how to disassemble the external drive.
In addition, I expected that this 24x JVC drive would be at least a dozen years old and was pleasantly surprised to find it was manufactured in 2020. My only complaint is the cost of shipping, which seems excessive compared to other major online vendors.
Fitting this drive was a lot more difficult than the standard drive OWC has. The problem is that the drive cover cannot be removed, as the video explains, because it is a different model drive. It took quite a lot of investigation and time to discover how the drive facia comes off.
If there were a video for this model, it would have been perfect hence the four stars. The drive works flawlessly.
With bluray drives starting to drop in price, DVDRW inevitably will be outdated. This is a cheap burner that works well for traditional applications of burning movies and media files. As for technical applications that require a more strict and accurate data redundancy, I would find something that burns slower and more accurately.
To all complaining about no SATA cables, read and understand: OEM = no cables. Almost always. It’s intention is for mass usage in multiple builds. Most of the time you will get the basic, bare unit. Sometimes not even with the original box.
This is not a con. The idea is that someone purchasing mass quantities of OEM products also should purchase mass quantities of SATA cables separately. Pay the extra $1 to $2 to get a SATA cable off newegg or purchase a non-OEM product.
The LG Super-Multi GH24NS90 internal SATA DVD Rewriters feature a 24x DVD±R write speed. Designed for storage needs that demand consistency and reliability, the GH24NS90 read and write in CD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD RAM formats.
Install was easy and when I booted my PC first test run it worked except I forgot to plug in the sata power psu cable so the drive was off. Plugged in, rebooted, and the wire burned. Swapped the wire out for another and it worked however the drive is scared with a burn mark in the sata ports.
First time installing windows it froze on 0% but the PC wasn’t frozen. This is not a bad drive, it was just not a perfect 5 experience for me, however, I would still recommend it. It may have been my fault but it is working fine now.

Seriously, what’s to write about a DVD burner? It either works or is doesn’t. In my case, the burner works fine. I had previously bought an external burner from some online outfit that did the job – barely.
USB connections are simply not the same as having a device hard-wired into the bus and using a SATA port. What really stood out was the service from the guys at Scorptec. I was on my way home from work and decided to drop in off the street.
The Clayton branch was only doing pick-up from on-line ordering. Luckily I had an account from a pickup I’d done during Covid-19 lockdown earlier in the year. The guy behind the jump was only too happy to create my order on the spot for me and provide the item – OUTSTANDING service!.
It’s not better than I expected, because I expected it to work and it does. It is installed in and powered by an older computer and connected via an adaptor to a USB port on a more recent one, but still running XP pro.
It was recognised immediately and both reads and writes on DVD-R disks. I probably won’t be trying to write on any other kind. I have used the free CDburnerXP program (which actually works with CDs and DVDs and all operating systems up to Windows 10, I believe) to write, and VLC to play video and music.
No problems. It comes with a disk with 3 optional programs, but no driver, which should not be needed. There is some “green” program which keeps track of its energy usage so I know how much planet I have saved.
There is an extremely limited version of Nero which nags you to pay for a full version. This also insists on an empty disk for each write and can’t add anything afterwards, unlike CDburnerXP. There is a firmware update, which I intend to leave alone.
My only niggle is that there are none of the special screws needed to lock it into place. I had to take some from my region-free DVD reader, which will be a nuisance if I want to use that occasionally.
Pros: It’s super fast at creating data discs. It has a stylish look. It compact & the software bundle that came with it is great Cons: Nothing to moan about. When burning data DVD’s you certainly know it’s working.
But that doesn’t mean it’s excessively noisy. I like the fact you can hear what it’s doing.
The LG GH24NSC0B 24x Internal SuperMulti DVD Rewriter is an OEM drive that supports a wide variety of optical media. In addition to writing data to DVD discs at a speed of 24x, it also supports CD burning at a speed of 48x.
This internal drive features a high-speed SATA interface, and is designed for use in Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP desktop systems.
I bought this DVD reader about 5 years ago, and it’s performance has been moderate. It successfully burns discs around 75-80% of the time. But — I tried putting in my old LOTR Extended Version DVD in today, and it was no-go.
I was astonished, and tried different video players, then tried on different machines, and the other machines worked. I did some searching, and an awful lot of people with LG DVD drives cannot watch LOTR and some other discs due to bad firmware.
I will seriously reconsider ever buying another LG DVD drive because of this.
Bought this after my other DVD drive died mid-way through ripping my DVD collection. This is fast, quiet, and has read everything I have thrown at it. I was a little concerned as in the store these were just loose in a big box in plastic sleeves; the very definition of minimalist packaging.
Funny when I gave a negative review to the ASUS model DRW-24B1ST I just purchased, I got the standard useless reply of check your software, blah, blah. Everyone is a moron to these bots that post these standard unhelpful replies, Looks like there is nothing wrong with “my software” as this LG burner plugged in and worked as expected with the same “software”.
Why not offer my money back instead of a bot reply with condescending useless information and pretending to care. BTW: Not everyone needs the “latest software” to use their PC efficiently. Legacy DVD burners should work without “latest software”.
The ASUS DRW-24B1ST is capable of reading and writing data on DVDR/RW, DVDRAM formats. It is a power saving drive and allows you to permanently delete the data on rewritable discs. This provides you with flexibility and efficiency in terms of multimedia data storage and sharing.
I would recommend and would buy again. Time will tell. I also bought Item#: 9SIA8R64C14171 ASUS DVD Burner 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-24B3ST/BLK/G/AS.

This piece of garbage has been the bane of my existence over the past year or so before it died on me. First off I bought it to download something to get my NIC Card up and running and it shattered the disk when I stuck it in and tried running it.
The disk was one of the small ones but it should have worked. Instead I had to spend an hour surgically removing shattered disk from the drive so I could hopefully continue using it, and though it technically still worked afterwords I was a little afraid of sticking anything else inside of it.
About a year later the thing has stopped working all together. I tried taking it apart again because I wanted to try using again, but I had no luck. TLDR: Don’t use, can potentially shatter disks that you stick inside and has a very short lifespan.
The LG Internal DVD RW Drive with M Disc Support is an essential component for building or upgrading a PC. It allows for the reading and writing of DVD video discs. The drive is compatible with Blu-ray, DVD and CD discs in varying formats.
A SATA host interface supplies a fast and reliable connection. This 24x supermulti DVD drive is compatible with multiple Windows operating systems.
I got this drive to replace a failing 15-year old Pioneer 16X DVD drive. The CPU MT is about to be decommissioned, but I still needed to pull stuff off of the main hard drive before shutting it down for good.
This drive fit the bill. It is fast and presented no complications when installing or using. It doesn’t print disc labels and it doesn’t have an audio port in the front or rear. It is just a CD/DVD reader/burner.
The black faceplate is almost indistinguishable from the blank faceplate below it. It is fast and discreet and had no problems with DVD-R or CD media run at maximum speed. I doubt that it will last 15 years, but I just needed it for about 15 weeks so multi-year longevity isn’t an issue.
If you just want pure functionality, this is the one to get.
The PX-L890SA is a highly accurate internal DVD RW developed for high quality DVD and CD burning. It is extremely flexible offering full hardware and software support a wide range of optical media. It has been designed with a rigid chassis and multiple dampers to absorb vibrations ensuring recording quality and stability, even at maximum 24X.
Specially designed airflow paths cool the motor and other heat producing components extending the operational life of the drive.
This is the best drive yet, ever!!! But unfortunately the manufacturers aren’t the real manufacturers anymore. The brand name has been passed on to a third party manufacturer with all it’s quality and creditablity out of the window.
I was oportune to find three of these from the united states and bought all three, the best decision i ever made.
This drive replaces the SONY Drive I bought in 2005. The SONY Drive would not read some of the discs. Anyone recall the “SONY Thing”, 2005, when it was found that there was some “discriminating reading” programed in the driver for thier products.
Well, they never came up with a new driver to allow programs to run on these drives. I keep this old drive like a “museum piece”, with it’s “SONY Thing”, who knows it too could become a collectable someday.
The new PLEXTOR reads all! So I can Load and Play Games such as: CRYSIS, FRONTLINES FUEL OF WAR, JUST CAUSE. The “SONY Thing”, had blocked these Games.
If you are using Avast Internet Security (purchased), you will have to tame Avast because it thought PlexUtilities was a suspicious program and wanted to run it in the sandbox. After telling Avast that PlexUtilities was safe, it didn’t alert me any more.
Avast probably thought it was suspicious because it can write directly to the Plextor drive to update the firmware. Other anti-virus programs may alert on it too because of that. PlexUtilities is a completely safe program!.

A CD/DVD drive is an indispensable tool for any computer user. It allows you to read and write data to and from CDs and DVDs, making it a versatile storage solution. While most computers come with a built-in CD/DVD drive, some don’t.
If your computer doesn’t have a built-in CD/DVD drive, you can easily add an external drive.
When shopping for a CD/DVD drive, you’ll want to consider the following:
Drive type: There are two types of CD/DVD drives: internal and external. Internal drives are installed inside your computer, while external drives are housed in an external case.
Drive speed: CD/DVD drives are available in a variety of speeds, ranging from slow to very fast. The faster the drive, the faster it can read and write data.
Compatibility: Be sure to check that a CD/DVD drive is compatible with your computer before you buy it. Most drives are compatible with both Windows and Mac computers, but there are some that are only compatible with one or the other.
Price: CD/DVD drives vary in price, depending on the features they offer. You can find drives that are very inexpensive, or you can spend a bit more for a drive with faster speeds or more features.
Once you’ve decided on the type of CD/DVD drive you want, the next step is to install it. If you’re installing an internal drive, you’ll need to open up your computer case and connect the drive to an available SATA port.
If you’re installing an external drive, simply connect the drive to an available USB port.
Once the drive is installed, you’re ready to start reading and writing data. To read data from a CD or DVD, simply insert the disc into the drive. To write data to a CD or DVD, you’ll need to use burning software.
This software is typically included with your operating system, or you can download it for free from the internet.
Burning software allows you to create data discs, audio discs, and video discs. To create a data disc, simply select the files you want to include and then choose to burn them to a disc. Audio and video discs are created in a similar way.
Once you’ve created your disc, you can insert it into any CD/DVD drive and read the data. You can also share discs with friends and family, or use them to backup important files.
