20 Best Instant Tent For Camping (2023 Updated)

Very recent purchase, the last weekend gave it a thorough test in a six hour series of severe thunderstorms with constant heavy downpours and high winds. Did not leak one single drop. Overall I love this tent, especially all the windows.

This is the most detail oriented designed tent. Well it may take a few more minutes than 90seconds they claimed, but overall it is super easy to set up and super easy to take down and put in tge well constructed storage bag.

Zippers alone on the tent made me smile. The concern some had about the removable floor  are unfounded. The floor is fully velcroed with no breaks or spaces for bugs. Oh I like this!!!.

We have had out T3 for right at a year. We have used it in ideal weather conditions as well as rain, snow, sleet, high wind, below freezing and 90+° weather. The below freezing temps you better make sure you have the correct sleeping gear though.

We are happy with the easiness of set up. We recently had the wind catch it as we were packing up camp and it bent a rain fly pole. My husband and I were arguing thinking it was gonna be a pain/hassle to get fix or replaced.

No hassle at all. Some of the best customer service there is.

This is a great tent. A six-footer could stand up in it. Its set-up is easy, though popping it out (the first step) does take adult strength. The six zippered mesh windows give air flow all around. The two doorways give two ways to go in and out, so tent inhabitants don’t have to step all over each other.

There are spacious mesh pockets on each side of the tent on the inside that offer lots of room to store shoes, books, glasses, cell phone, hand towels, a toilet paper roll, whatever (yes, each pocket is big enough to hold all of that, unless you have a man’s size 10 foot and want to put your running shoes in it).

The construction is good – no frays, tears, or weak spots. We are only two people and a small dog, but we really enjoy having room to spread out.

I have to say, I wish I could give it 4. 5 stars instead of 4 but the system won’t let me do that. This is a big tent! Setup is super easy. Do a trial run before you actually use it. I didn’t read the instructions and had it up in 5-10 minutes.

When I actually went camping me and a friend had it up in less than 5 minutes, with the rain fly, again. without reading the instructions. I slept in it by myself and will be using it again in two weeks with my wife and dog.

I am sure you could easily fit a queen mattress in there. Nine people would be a squeeze for sure, but you could probably do it although I wouldn’t. I would say it gives four people plenty of space without feeling crammed.

I’m 6’1″ and can stand up in it, which is appreciated. The lighting is nice to have although I do wish there was an option to turn off the lights on the switches (maybe there is and I missed it) since the switch is lit up at night and kind of annoying; I suppose I could’ve just unplugged it.

The lights will also run off of a power pack if you have one, which is cool. I really like the layout of it. It has sort of a “Screen room” and you can put your queen bed (or twin XLs as I have) in the “bedroom” and use the included room divider if you want.

I didn’t use the vents on the bottom of the sides in the “bedroom” but they’re nice to have. Plenty of storage options to put phones, etc. It also has plenty of hooks for hanging things like lights and fans.

Breaking the tent down is fairly easy although getting it back in the back can potentially be a struggle, but I feel like that’s the case for a lot of tents. I also didn’t use the included ties to cinch it together, so take that into consideration.

I didn’t use the stakes at all, so I cannot comment as to their quality. Now the downside and here’s where it lost half a star for me. It down poured for a couple of hours and when I went in the tent, there were a few small puddles, and I mean small (hand sized), but I was disappointed to see that it had leaked.

I did not spray the tent at all with any water proofing prior to going camping. The puddles were easily wiped up in a few seconds with a towel, and ultimately it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me. Someone at another campsite with the exact same tent in green said theirs leaked too, but that A) Theirs was old, and B) The instructions that I didn’t read, say that in heavy rain, to use a tarp.

Who knows, maybe some water proofing spray around the seams would help. I do not want to have to take a giant tarp with me if there’s potential for rain. I did tons of research before purchasing this tent and am ultimately happy with my purchase.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. PS. I would recommend buying the footprint.

We’re not sure what’s going on with this tent. We absolutely love the lights, roominess, zippers, pockets, and any other “basics” about it, except we had to buy real tent stakes vs the cheap ones that came with it – those pulled up way too easily with wind.

We would easily give it 5 stars if it weren’t for an ongoing wetness problem inside. We have the Core Footprint underneath the tent and have a couple of decades camping experience with setting up tents.

At first we saw a wet spot about the size of a tennis ball. It’s grown to the size of a beach ball – both on sunny days with no rain and on days with some rain. Same spot, different days, always getting wet.

We have a flannel sheet on top of the tent floor so chairs, etc, don’t ruin the floor. We’ve taken that out, made sure it was dry, and put it back in every day (7 days now) and the same wet spot always appears.

This is on a designated tent sand/shelled area in FL with no wetness around the spot and is in the center room of the tent approx 18 inches away from the edge with no wetness around it leading to any edge nor drips from above.

Then, overnight we’ve had two stormy, rainy nights. One was our first night, the other was last night. No water has leaked inside the tent (another plus) either night, and we looked at it this morning making sure there were no puddles.

There were none outside of the tent either – anywhere around our site. Yet, after a day of walking trails outside we return and find one whole room of the tent floor with a totally soaked flannel sheet on it.

The sheet was dry this morning with no rain since. This is not near the beach ball wetness at all, but it did soak our suitcases (bottom), Thermarest pad and a sleeping bag that was on the sheet. There was no rain during the day and no puddles around the tent at all, nor are there any leak spots we can see in the tent from above.

We’re stymied. Tomorrow we will have to take the tent down (annoying task with 5 days left of 12 camping) to try to dry everything out and see if there are issues with the footprint or what. One spot we were able to work around.

One whole room has us scrambling tonight to figure out what we are going to do for sleeping – esp finding it at night vs early this morning after the rain. It was sunny all day. The tent is somehow wicking up water from beneath – all without puddles or anything to explain it.

If this is the norm for this tent, at the very least we need to buy a better footprint than the one they sell with it. Otherwise, we really enjoy the tent and were happy we bought it – until tonight.

Now we still enjoy having the lights and the room – everything else about the design (other than the stakes), but this problem is frustrating. We’ve never encountered anything like this before and have stayed at this campground multiple years through many storms with a different tent/footprint.

The tent leaked at the seam connecting the side window section to the lower tent section on one of the side panels. On close inspection, it is clear this was a defect in the tape/glue which escaped quality inspection during manufacturing.

I would not call this an ‘instant’ tent. After a learning curve, it takes approximately 15 minutes to set up from start to finish (unpacking to last stake). the same amount of time as with my flexible pole tent.

It does take approximately 60 seconds to extend the poles, but this is only after the tent, poles, and center hub have been positioned just correctly. The tent is heavy and bulky. And as noted above, the poles and center hub need to be positioned just correctly or the tent is neither going to go up, nor fold-up when taking the tent down.

On one occasion during take down and fold-up, the tent fabrics somehow tightened, causing a small rip in the tent floor. Strong gusts of wind will dislodge the poles that support the fly over the doors.

After years of searching for a durable and quality tent for my family, I was pleasantly surprised with the value and ease of set-up of this Coleman – Skylodge 10 person Tent. The interior of the tent is so spacious, I have never come across one like it! Not only is it a breeze to assemble, but it is also easy to fold-up and pack away.

In the past I have had terrible time disassembling a tent and trying to fit it back into it’s case. The amount of space inside the tent is unbelievable and it has so many awesome features! Such as the room divider and interior pockets for personal storage.

This awesome tent has a max height of over 6 feet, and can fit up to 4 queen size mattresses! This tent is an incredible value, made with exceptional quality materials. I look forward to many more years of family camping fun! I totally recommend!.

My husband and I have experience with the sky Lodge variation of Coleman’s camping equipment! The eight person instant cabin from sky Lodge is a definite upgrade from our last Coleman tent. I will say it does take a little more than a 60 seconds from start to finish, however, it is extremely easy to pitch! Where you pitch your tent / cabin / shelter when campingmakes all the difference! I’m excited to have this and test it out on our pre-planned camping trip next month My experience with this type of tent and variation (although a 4 person), has always worked out well for us and having this eight person sky Lodge now is a definite upgrade! Definitely going to love the extra room it has in it! We are very excited to be able to take our grandchildren with us this year.

And that would not have been possible if had it not been for this tent! I am not at all the kind of person who can look at a tent and just set it up! This tent however seems fairly straightforward and definitely easier than some of the tents we’ve experienced in the past! The extra amenities that this tent brings are a welcomed upgrade! I do know from owning the previous version of this tent that it does withstand the rain, it has extra features which I do love.

We can blow up our air beds queen size at that, outside of the tenant easily bring it inside as the openings are wide enough to do so. The rain fly on this 10th / cabin is very good. Keeps the rain out.

I’m assuming it will do it with this one as well. We love the fact that you can stand up my husband is 6 ft and he’s able to move around the tent freely. Myself being 5’55 I have no problems whatsoever I can go from one side of the tent to the other without having to crouch over! It’s sturdy design is a welcome added feature giving us a security that we need to enjoy our trip! Very much looking forward to this camping trip and bringing back all the necessary details to update this review! However I will say if it performs anything like the four man version I’m sure I’m going to be extremely thrilled with it! I will definitely update my review once we are back from our camping trip! My family got the Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent to use when I was young to go camping which we really enjoyed doing as a family most weekends every summer before my parents got a divorce. My father kept some of the camping equipment that was still in good condition at the family home.

So just a few years later, when me and my now husband, boyfriend at the time, had our daughter, we absolutely wanted to show her the simplicity and enjoyment you can have away from electronics. She wanted to help with everything!!! The Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent is fairly easy and quick to set up.

It DEFINITELY helps keep you dry as we learned one night when while my husband was trying to cook over the tripod, it started to pour rain instantly. Without thinking about the rest of the food, we ran into the tent thinking that it should stop pretty quickly.

Instead, within 1 min of us going into the tent to get dry, we hear noises from right outside the tent and a large group of about 30 raccoons came to take EVERY SINGLE ITEM OF FOOD WE BROUGHT!!! They were tag teaming by sending 1 raccoon in to grab a whole large box of donuts and run out.

Then another would come running right up, dig in the grocery bag and grab a whole bag of bagels, next one- cream cheese, next one- chips, then came over to our cooler that was right outside the tent to get our bottles of water etc.

All my husband, daughter and myself could do is stand there and laugh as we watched them out the window of the tent. We laughed all night UNTIL our daughter had to use the restroom and we were still surrounded by atleast 30 sets of raccoon eyes.

Let’s just say we NEVER visited that camp site again. Then a few years later the movers we hired somehow lost that wonderful memory maker of 2 generations just about 😢 But I would absolutely recommend that Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent to all the beginner campers or all the experienced campers who still love camping the traditional way.

Great tent. I set it up in my backyard, to give it a trial run (and seam seal) before taking it out camping. There are pros and cons. Pros: Carry bag – the tent comes neatly packed in a carry bag, with tent, poles, rain fly, ground stakes, door mat, and instructions.

Setup – Easy. Set up by myself, with rain fly, in under 15 minutes. Didn’t have to look at the directions. Only suggestion would be to put the word “front” somewhere on the rain fly to indicate which way it goes.

However, a quick glance at the packaging will tell you. Materials – the tent material seems to be of good quality, and should hold up well when taken care of. The zippers are not heavy duty, but i see no issues with them.

The floor is heavy duty tarp material. Screens – the tent has large screen panels on the “ceiling”, which makes for a great view when the rain fly is not on. There is an additional window, and screen on the door for extra viewing and airflow.

Floor Vent – there is a vent near the rear of the tent, which allows for additional airflow. Cord access – there is a small zippered panel in the front corner, that let’s you run an extension cord into the tent.

Other “Pros”: I got the Navy/Grey tent, and the colors are cool. Got some compliments from the neighbors on it. I like that the rain fly comes with the guy lines already attached. The interior gear pockets are fine, good for holding your phone.

Wouldn’t stuff them with anything heavy. There is a little “ring” at the center of the ceiling, to hang a small light. While you could technically fit 2 queen air mattresses, I would not. It leaves no floor space for gear.

I will put in one mattress, and leave the other half of the tent for my kids Pack n’ Play, and gear. It will fit the 3 of us comfortably. However, unless you intend to get cozy, I wouldn’t advise this for 4 adults (but it could be done).

Cons: Stakes – the stakes are just ok. they are the generic skinny steel ones. I would recommend spending an extra $10 bucks and buy some good ones. Footprint – the tent doesn’t come with a footprint, though I imagine this helps keep the cost so low.

Not a big deal, I use a tarp anyways. Door Screen – the upper half of the door can be unzipped to reveal the screen window. I really would have liked if the entire door could be screen, not just the top half.

I also purchased some Coleman Seam Sealer, and sealed all the seams inside the tent, and the rain fly. Some of the seams are taped, but it’s just good practice to spend the time to do this, no matter what brand/cost/etc tent you have.

It saves headache down the road. Overall, I’m very pleased with the tent, and the cost. It will work well for short camping trips with a small family, couple, or individual.

The bag in which the tent and it’s related rods or pins come, is nicely packed inside. Instruction manual is stitched with the bag so it was helpful in windy weather not to worry about it being flown away.

The tent was big enough for a family of three and a dog and had ample space left for keeping something overnight inside that we didn’t want to left it in open. Installation as well as dismantling was really easy.

It comes with small foot mat sort of thing. The flooring is already stitched in it in case someone is worried about keeping extra tarp. Extra tarp is not needed with it. The windows are given that can be opened or closed and few pouches stitched inside to keep your bottle or something in it.

Overall, it was a good experience in camping using this tent.

Amazing TENT 🙂 I LOVE IT. I Have a family of 7 and use it with all my kids when we go to the Park and Beach. i use it all the time. soooo easy to use and put back together. it so big with so much space and love how you can get alot of sunlight and when you don’t its easy to cover sunlight too.

Might be a nice looking tent and very east to set up but because of the nets on bothe sides at the top with only some badly made covers from outside the heat will not stay in. You can feel the wind on your face, it rained for 2 hours at night and you could feel the water inside the tent while you were touching the wall.

You feel in the tent like you have 2 open windows all the time. Coleman is a big name and also bought air mattress and torches and no problem there but if you want a tent for a beach this is it but if the temperature outside drops below 15 you won’t sleep as planned.

The nets windows cannot be shut with a zipp, only have a cover to stop the rain drops coming in but there is an inch gap between the tent and that cover so the cold wind will come straight in from bothe sides!.

Very poor quality product. I assumed MacPac wouldn’t have wanted their brand which is synonymous for superior quality to be associated with with this brand. This thing is a hunk of junk not made by Mac Pac.

Maybe good for a night in the back yard with the kids. Maybe.

My first use of this tent was a three day beach camping trip at Assateague Island, MD. Setup was quite easy and did it by myself. It rained fairly steady the first day and night. It held up really well.

There were a couple ounces of water puddled at the door, but I think that was from entering and exiting the tent. The door opens into the tent so water tends to drain onto the floor of the tent. The problem I had with this tent is the rainfly.

It did an excellent job blocking the rain. It did a poor job blocking the wind. The wind, tends to swoop underneath the rainfly and into the top of the tent which is all mesh. Had it not been for that, I would have given this tent 5 stars.

This would probably make a very good tent in a warmer environment or low wind environment. By the way, I was able to substantially reduce the amount of wind coming into the tent by placing a tarp over the tent that extended below the rainfly.

I will continue to use this tent, but I will be figuring out how to close off most of the mesh in the roof. Or maybe the manufacturer can figure that out.

This is a very nice and spacious tent. It sets up in just a few minutes and is just as easy to take down once you learn how to fold the material towards the center. It kind of opens and closes like an umbrella, but fits easily into the bag once you get the hang of it.

We did it with two people which makes it easier but I think it could be done with one as well. We have a queen size Aerobed which fits easily in this tent with plenty of room for extra glamping as we also carry a propane heater, solar generator and laptop with external speakers for watching movies and shows.

It rained pretty hard on us the first night as well as snow and hail. The tent did not leak at all. What I did not like and why I gave this tent only three stars is the front door of the tent (there are two, the others on the side) when unzipping sort of hits a point in the upper left corner where the tension of the pole makes it a little rough to unzip in that spot.

The way the tent is designed with the straighter walls I guess it cannot be helped. Also on our second night the zipper on said door got stuck on the tent flap material and required pliers to pull the zipper through.

I had to run the zipper over that spot a few times to get the tines lined up and working again although for a moment I was thinking this thing is going back for a refund. The side door came in very handy for getting our dog (70 lbs) into her crate at night, so the second side door came in very handy.

The other thing I found out when folding up the tent was the thin material of the flooring. Though we checked for sticks and rocks I guess we did not find them all and the bottom of the tent had an area where a rock had rubbed almost all of the way through the bottom of the tent, very disappointing.

I fixed the abrasion with some Gear Tape and am willing to live with it as a lot of our equipment and camp clothing has patches from tears and embers. I would prefer a stronger layer of material for the floor of the tent but also realize that would increase weight and cost.

So for now we are happy with the tent at this price point and the ease of set up and take down. We leave again for three days starting tomorrow so I may change my rating and review after that. I think we will be satisfied with this tent as long as zippers getting stuck in the tent material is not a recurring problem.

2021 – I’m on my 5th tent purchase and review! This is the Best Tent so far! I’m at a stage where the kids are grown and I want a smaller tent I can put up myself and stand up in. I’ve bought Colem_n tents for decades, but their current products are cheaply made and the designs aren’t great! I tried a C_re tent, which was a great design, but rainfly fabric was see-through thin.

No way it’s keeping rain out! This Members Mark is my 5th tent! I am In Like-Like with it!!! It was easy for 2 people to set up (I had my daughter help me on the 1st set up), and think I can do it myself next time.

It goes up in a few minutes! The fabric feels like tent canvas on the outside, lightly rubbery coated on the inside. The rainfly doesn’t touch the tent! Windows on three sides plus the roof zips open for ventilation or closed for black out – all with screening.

The ceiling design is awesome!!! If you unzip the windows, instead of tying the flaps, there are pouches to tuck the rolled flaps into. Hard to explain, but a Great design! The only design flaw is the door’s 2 zipper design.

One zipper goes across the bottom left to right, and another zipper goes from top left to bottom right along the curve. I like to zip my tent up at the top to guarantee no unwanted critters can get in.

Plus, I lock my tent with little luggage locks and that’s easier done at eye level. This tent has So Many Great Features It’s a keeper! The description says this tent is 68″ tall, but it’s taller than that.

My daughter is 5’7″ and based on how much room was above her head I’d say it’s closer to 6′ at it tallest on the inside. The tent has an upside-down V shape, like a house, so the tallest height runs across the tent (unlike dome tents that are their tallest height only in the center).

The rainfly is another 3″ above that.

Update 8/16/21: It rained! We had a late afternoon thunderstorm pop up this past weekend, but everything inside our tent stayed dry. I sent my teen to zip up the windows, but with the air vents engaged, it didn’t even get stuffy! It was a very humid weekend, however, and the floor got a little damp underneath his sleeping pad, and under the packing blanket I use under my air mattress, likely from condensation.

*** I like space and comfort when I’m sleeping in the woods. There, I said it. On a recent group trip, a friend offered to come back in 5 minutes to help me “pitch” my tent. When she got back, I was staking the guy lines on the rain fly while my air mattress inflated inside.

When it’s just me, I set up a queen air bed and a camp table inside for my lantern, toothbrush, and weather-resistant JBL bluetooth speaker, with room for gear and some aggressive dancing. My 6’2″ husband can stand up inside.

When all three of us camp, my son’s sleeping pad and bag fit just fine and the divider creates a little privacy. Typically, I string solar twinkly lights around it and use a USB bug light/hanging lamp inside.

Tons of screen area mean you catch breezes when it’s hot, and if there’s no rain in the forecast, you can skip the fly and stargaze through the screen ceiling. It’s not light (35 pounds?) but everything goes back in the back no problem when you pack out, including the tarp I use as a footprint (not included).

I’ve lucked out with foul weather so far for two seasons, but I always test it with my garden hose before I use it to make sure it’s still repelling water. Based on that, I’d suggest zipping the windows mostly closed if it’s aggressively rainy, but that seems like common sense to me.

Perhaps the only design change I’d suggest: instead of both the double door and the D-door being on one corner of the tent, shift the D-door over, so when the divider is in use, it’s a truly two-room experience.

Though I’ve only used it a few times when camping with my son for cub scouts, it has been fantastic. That is is until this weekend when camping, the silver button on one of the leg poles broke and the pole couldn’t stay extended.

My son and I had to camp all weekend with the corner of the tent collapsed! It ruined what was otherwise a nice campout with the scouts. The tent is just out of warranty (purchased 13mo ago), so customer service was a dead end.

The rep had zero empathy for the terrible experience we had. She simply argued the warranty and left it at that. Given the nature of what broke, how well I take care of the tent (garage kept and well cared for), and us having to deal with a broken tent all weekend, I don’t think I’m being unreasonable by asking Core to send me a replacement pole.

We’re set to camp again in two weeks for spring break and now I have to spend another ~$200 in just over a year. It’s sad because the tent is still like new. I really wanted to have it for many years to come and not have it be just another 1yr product that breaks and is trashed.

I can’t say enough good things about this tent. We have used it several times already, but we just completed a week of camping down the Oregon Coast and the Redwood Forest with 2 adults, 3 kids, and 2 dogs.

We broke camp every morning and set up further down the coast every afternoon. This tent is what made it possible. I did waterproof the underside of the rainfly before setting off which helped keep s dry.

We did have a bit of leakage at the seams where the window fasteners are sewn in – the moisture dripped from the plastic piece to the floor or whatever was under them. The windows weren’t a problem as some mentioned.

I think a large part of the complaints people have are simply user error. I will seal the seams when we get home and use a good waterproof spray on the inside of the tent to prep for its next use. We live in Montana and have used it successfully in the mountains in the summer, and plan to do it again.

I will have to figure out a way to hold in some of the warmth a little more, but I realize that this tent is probably not really intended for mountain environments. The constant dampness of the coast was also manageable as long as we aired out in the afternoon.

We use a tarp as a footprint to protect the floor of the tent. Sleeping on thin air mattresses (purchased at Costco) ensured that everyone was comfy every night. Next time we will add a second rain fly and tarp poles to make a vestibule for our side door.

We are looking forward to many more trips with this excellent tent! Thank you CORE for an outstanding product!! As a side note- have you considered creating addons for this tent?.

I use this for fishing. It did well when I put the back to the wind. It would be better if it had some small velcro strips to close the door without zipping it to provide quick exits. Zipping really takes to long.

It was very easy to unpack but I had to watch the video again to repack it into the bag. I got the single size for my friend and it’s not quite big enough. Definitely go with the xl unless you are a really small person with a small chair that sits upright.

This was my first time trying it. Iv’e read many reports that rain gathers in the bottom of it. I will not try to use it in the rain. The plastic wrinkles and it’s difficult to see out of and watch your pole.

Better to leave the door open.

Works well for keeping dry, warm in inclement weather. I use a second one to keep team snacks dry. Accommodates a small table or a chair. Would benefit from a rain fly. Need to vent to prevent condensation build up.

Has door, window on each side and back lower vent.

Best tent you can buy on a budget. It is a bit heavy, but it is very large and roomy, comfortable, and is easy to set up. We went camping in VA in the 40s with steady wind and rain. We had 2 tarps that were smaller than the tent base and didn’t cover the whole top of the tent, so the tent had water contact, but we stayed dry and pretty comfortable.

The fly seams are already sealed too. I was worried about the wind gusts in the mountains but it held up fine and we didn’t have any drafts. It comfortably fit my husband and I, our teen son, and our 2 large breed dogs.

If you’re unsure of which to purchase and you don’t have alot of money, this is a decent buy and will be comfortable and roomy. As with all Colemans, the zipper sticks occasionally and it never folds up to go back in original bag.

Nevertheless, if you don’t need a small tent to fit in a backpack, want something cheap, roomy and comfy, this is sure to do! Good luck and happy camping!.

I like that I can stand up in the tent and don’t have to be sitting down or bent over when getting my gear set up or getting dressed. It’s the perfect size to fit my cot and other gear with plenty of room to move around.

what I don’t like is the door, because no matter how I set the tent up it is way too taunt and causes stress on the seams where the zipper is, making it more difficult to zip and unzip. not to mention I’m afraid it will eventually rip.

This is my my second of this tent. I returned the first one thinking it was defective, but this one is no different. I think it is a design flaw.

I hate to say that this tent is not waterproof nor will the company fix, replace, or do anything for my brand new tent that leaked. It lightly sprinkled through the rainfly above which accumulated through a day of rain in the Smoky Mountains.

Also, it dripped constantly via the tie ups for the back windows (windows were closed, dripped through the seam). I was told by the company “Core tents are water resistant and require a waterproofing spray to be waterproofed and withstand constant rain.

We recommend using Nikwax, Scotchgard Water Repellent, or Coghlan’s Seam Seal. We recommend all tents be sprayed once a season to maintain the waterproofing or as directed on the product instructions.

” So DON’T expect a dry tent upon purchase. The description says “All Core tents are equipped with water resistant PU coated fabric and taped seams to help keep moisture out. ” The tent is easy to set up and take down, but it is not waterproof upon purchase so be aware that before you take your brand new tent out in the spring rains that you better apply waterproofing to the entire thing because you won’t know where it will leak.

I haven’t camped for about 20 years and I wanted something really comfortable for my family and my worn out knees. I spent a lot of time searching and reading reviews and specs to decide this was our best choice for being basically car camping newbies.

I really wanted a tent we could stand up in and a tent with an awning. (A need I thoroughly understand from camping fiasco 20 years ago!) We set this up in the house to make sure we could do it correctly and it had all it’s parts.

The online video is really super helpful and we didn’t even need to look at the instructions on the bag. First time took about 30 min because we had to keep scooting it around inside to make enough space for it.

I believe the next time we do it outside at our camp site it won’t take very long at all. It is just remarkably simple. I think one person could set this up, except maybe the rain fly depending on the wind.

It will probably be more time setting up footprint, pegging and guying than the actual erection of tent. It was easy to bring it down and reminds me a lot of following the folds for origami. It’s just a big origami tent.

We both really like the harness for packing it back up, and the oversized bag is perfect b/c we made it back in without a problem. I am blown away and so is my husband. We’re both really tall (6′ & 6’4″) so this will be perfect.

My daughter is happy too b/c she can have her own “room” with the divider. I’ll be happy there’s enough space for us to hang out inside the tent if the rain starts while we camp. And there will be lots of room for our cots, bags and gear.

I can’t wait for June to get here! A+.

I have been eyeing this tent for a couple of years. Last year it sold out before I could buy. I bought this past winter to make sure I snagged one. I am the camper my husband is not a huge fan. Camps for me.

I wanted to make it easier and make sure we were dry in the rain. All of the above with this tent. We ended up have quite a bit of rain with down pours on our first trip. Dry as can be and with the ventilation was great.

You can close it off on cool nights and open it on humid without the rain getting in the tent. I bought the footprint also. When we packed up and picked the tent off the footprint, we had a puddle underneath and it was never in the tent.

Also this was much easier to bring home wet than our last tent. I like how it has a cinching piece to compact it better. We just used that and not the bag since the tent was wet. We just set up when we got home and dried the tent then.

Love that every corner has loops to hang things. Love how the zippers move from both directions. Love you can get in and out of the tent and not get water in the tent when raining. Of course if you leave anything in the screen house it will get wet coming through the screens.

We did not really use the stakes except I think for the screen porch. They were decent. We learned many years ago camping in the Adirondacks you need heavy duty ones for rocky ground. It is plenty of room for my glamping style for the two of us.

There is enough room if my adult son comes also.

I don’t know who measured this tent, I assume Tom Thumb as there is no way that you can get 3 people and their stuff into this tent. My girlfriend and I didn’t fit at all and we’re not particularly large, we had to keep our stuff in a friend’s tent.

The back also lifts up, letting light in, which defeats the point of having a ‘black out’ tent. If you’re on your own, have minimal equipment, then don’t mind paying for black out but having light come in, then this is the tent for you.

If you want what it’s advertised as; then go elsewhere.

Putting this tent up is easy, but I’ve not quite figured out how to put it down as of yet. It’s surprisingly sturdy, and once the door is closed the inside is completely pitch black. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who has trouble sleeping in light conditions.

I LOVE this tent. It’s very roomy and has great airflow. Assembly took decidedly longer the first time (partly because we use a footprint), but it gets faster and smoother each time. The poles seem very sturdy.

The LED lights aren’t overly bright, but when it’s pitch black outside, they light up the interior reasonably well. Don’t expect to play family games with them, but they’ll keep you from bumping into things.

The room dividers are great. They can be attached in different ways with some imagination. There is a divider for the bathroom, too, even though there is no mention of it anywhere. The bathroom has a ring where you can hang a shower sprayer, but you cannot hang a solar shower bag.

There is also no built-in opening to hang a solar shower bag outside and feed the hose through. We use a drop-in shower pump and a bucket of water. Some things I wish were different: The mesh strip along the shower/bathroom is slightly bigger than I like.

Small insects can come in if they really want to. I sprayed the entire mesh strip with deep woods bug spray and that seemed to help a lot. I wish there were accessory loops sewn along the edges of the ceiling, but I doubt that’s a thing in any tent.

I’ll be adding some in the front room to help with my kitchen setup. Some things when putting this tent up or putting it away: Leave the windows open, but fully zip all of the doors. Staking out the tent with the doors open can prevent you from being able to zip them closed later.

Stake out and assemble the closets after the rest of the tent is up. It’s very easy to pull them too tight or not straight. We have had the tent up in the rain a couple of times, and while the tent itself seems very tight even without being scotch guarded, having the closet staked too tightly and not straight allowed a bit of moisture to come in.

Doing the closets last solved that. The tent has a tarp floor, but we still use a footprint to protect it. If you use one, be sure to cut along the outline of the tent so water cannot pool under the floor.

Rugs inside help make it quieter walking across the tent floor. As others have mentioned, the poles are very heavy. We put the poles, stakes, and our footprint and mallet into a heavy-duty duffel bag and just use the bag that came with the tent for the tent, rainfly, and dividers.

This makes the weight roughly ~40 pounds per bag, which is much more manageable. One difficulty to expect: you’ll need to be more careful when choosing your campsites to ensure the site is relatively flat and roomy enough for this beast of a tent.

It is roughly 17′ deep by 21′ wide. Overall, for the price, this tent was well worth the money. You’ll be very hard pressed to find another at this price with the amount of space, let alone any other tent at all with a built-in bathroom.

We use a queen and two twin double high airbeds, and there is still plenty of space in the long room, plus my entire kitchen setup in the front room. I LOVE this tent! :).

Likes: Ease of setup. literally out of the bag takes under 5 minutes to get upright and staked. Size: Queen size mattress, 2 cats, my small dog, and all of my things. Not that anyone reading this knows what “all of my things” entails, but trust me.

it’s a lot. Lighting Feature: kills having to look for a charged light or a flashlight. The only downside to this feature is that it takes D cell batteries, four of them. That being said, if you have a cell phone battery charger you can skirt having to use batteries in their battery pack.

(The connection for the light is a USB connection) Storage for the battery pack is provided on the tent ceiling (also very convenient) Extension Cord Access: not having to undo a seam or run a power source through the door is extremely helpful.

Rain Fly Tie-Downs: The rain fly has hooks which connect to loops attached around the tent. It also has ropes so you can stake the rain fly to the ground if needed, it’s just nice to have the option not to run additional stakes if I don’t need to.

The fly secures pretty solid when just attached to the tent’s provided loops. Dislike: The Floor: This isn’t a deal breaker for me but the floor is made of a nylon that is VERY NOISY when walked on. The plus side is that it’s a thicker material, which hopefully will hold up over time, it’s just annoying to have to hear it every time I walk on it.

To start, I manic bought this 4 days before a camping trip on the other side of the state with some friends. By the time it came I didn’t have time to set it up or to check to make sure it was all there.

So away we went. We got to the site with 30 minutes of light left for the day. My cousin, husband, and I set it up half in the light half in the dark. It took us about and hour and a half and we set it up wrong! The instructions are on a tag attacked to the carrying bag and they are the greatest to understand.

Especially in the dark lol. ** build the roof and then attach the legs like it says! **It makes it so much easier. All of the connectors are tied to the tent so that you don’t have to play a guessing game of what goes where.

This thing is massive. We fit 2 regular queen air mattresses, one queen with a headboard (don’t judge me, I’m bougie!) and one extended full (I would not recommend more then 3 queen beds, we had to put the full in the front bedroom/breeze way and it barley fit.

The 2 pop out closest and organizers are great, it also had room dividers, 2 sets of battery powered rope lights and a projector screen! All in all I 100% recommend this to anyone that is about the glamp life! Can’t wait to take it out with just the hubbs and I!.

The instant technology didn’t work. It was extremely frustrating that the poles did not extend and align properly. One ended up breaking and I had to shove a huge tent back into a card board box. This technology seems to be made for a smaller tent NOT one of this size.

I have a 4 man Coleman with instant technology and it’s great. Luckily I had that one and was able to borrow another tent to use for our camping trip. It is worth stating that the return process was extremely long as well, the customer service rep was not knowledgeable and it took over an hour on the phone with what should’ve taken 5 minutes.

And it’s still not clear if I will get my $400+ back as I had to submit a claim with photos. Any other customer service no a days will refund you instantly in a situation like this. I won’t be purchasing this or another Coleman tent again.

When I say I liked this tent, I really did. It was spacious enough for five people and gear and it kept us dry for four years of moderate camping (2-3 times a year). On the fifth year I had To waterproof it but the seams were failing, as ants were getting in, so we decided to pitch it , no pun intended.

Because of this tent I only planned to go with Coleman when replacing it as I was happy with most of its features. I wish the springy door actually worked – we omitted the poles every time and just zipped up a loose fabric door because otherwise the tension was too hard on it.

I wasn’t a fan of the door height from the ground and its center placement, it made it hard for little ones and shorter adults to step in and out of the tent and it could be awkward if we arranged the bedding near the entrance.

I also wish it had a divider but I always made one out of a sheet, a clothesline and clothespins. I hope our next tent checks all the boxes since we know what we’re looking for now, but this one, even with my complaints, was pretty good as it goes.

Very simple setup but you definitely need two people, as with most tents. The screened in front porch area is great for camping in areas with lots of bugs or mosquitos. I would say this is a fantastic tent for an entry level camper or someone that goes maybe twice a year.

We went camping during pretty heavy winds and rains and the wind snapped the poles for the tent which is why I Gave it a 3 star review. If you’re looking for a nice basic, large tent this is great!.

I watched the site for a sale and was able to get this tent for a great price. We used this tent for 5, 3 day camping trips this summer. The tent was very easy to put up, and I (a middle aged mom) could do it myself in ten-fifteen minutes.

Until the last time, when something got twisted the wrong way and a leg would not bend the way that it should. This was fixed relatively easily by unscrewing the legs with a phillips head, unfolding them, and reattaching, but it took a while to figure that out.

We were lucky to have good weather most of our trips, and only had one night of off and on rain, and very little wind, and no problems with water getting into the tent. I did spray with a water sealer before our first trip, but don’t know if it helped.

A lot of our campsites have rocks and roots so I cut tarps the footprint of the tents and we use tent rugs on the inside to protect the floor. Pros: The tent is really easy to put up (except that once).

I can do it myself in under 15 minutes. It takes longer to get it out of the bag and straightened out then it does to get it up. It fits back into the bag easily. We usually have four cots (81×30), three in the main room with a lot of walking space in the middle.

The private room is nice but not big. When we had just three of us, we used it for storage, when there are four of us, my son uses it. It’s just big enough that a cot can just fit across the entrance without touching the sides, and then there’s a little bit of room on the other side for storage.

There’s little plastic circles looped into the corners of the main room that are great for small lights/lanterns. We never used the wall in the middle of the main tent but its available. It got so dirty on our one wet camping trip, but when I got home and dried it out i could just sweep off the dirt and it looks almost brand new.

Cons: The tent is not 14 x14. The main room is 14×8, and the private room is about 7×6, with a steep sloped ceiling. My 8 year old cannot stand up in it, even in the front. The size has been great for us, but the information should be corrected somehow.

The walls of the main tent are just a bit too sloped for me. Over all: I’d recommend the tent for the ease of set up and the size alone. It made it through multiple uses this summer and still looks brand new.

I am looking around for sales on a straight wall tent but this one is in such great shape still that I don’t know that I can justify it.

We took this tent for camping recently. For 4 of us, it was very spacious and super easy to pitch the tent up; very easy to take down. I wound recommend for anyone looking for easy tent set up. Why 4 stars only? 1) one of the top pole was spontaneously would not stay locked in extension, spontaneously unlocking itself.

Pin-lock appears to be functional at first, then it unlocks itself. Rest of the poles and locks (both top and bottom) were fine. Tent itself held up fine with rain cover secured to ground for additional reinforcement and enough friction to keep the pole collapse all the way.

Not so fun when you had to wake up middle of the night to fix the pole. 2) wished the windows can be open up or to side instead of down for better air flow while sleeping in dry-hot area camping (minor issue, most tent does same) 3) one of side the tent (opposite to entrance side) has little to no air flow.

there is a very small vent, but difficult to keep it open to be functional. (also minor issue) 4) wish there are mesh pockets around the tent to store and easy access small items (no complaints, just wish list) Other than one of the poles unlocks spontaneously I like this tent so much that I would like to get replacement, unfortunately none in stock, Walmart offered refund only.

I’ll be waiting for restock.

I am an avid camper. I have had my fair share of tents and was excited for this instant rise tent. The packaging was well put together and the back has a nice flare of an extended zipper. Getting the tent out and started to lay it out I notice one of the pole was twisted.

It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to twist it back into place and started to push the poles into their lock places. On 2 of the poles it was quite difficult to get the pole to lock into place.

Once I got my sons help we got the tent up. I look at key aspects. Material is thin and breathable but could easily tear if a storm came through, the poles aren’t as thick at a previous pre attached pole tent I have which could be a bad thing with heavy winds.

Set up was not as easy as other instant rise tents I have had. It is not stable it needs the rain fly to be stabilized which ruins being able to star gaze or get decent wind flow. It’s a big tent with no stability without the rain fly.

I returned this within the hour of setting up and taking down. With weather being unpredictable a tent should be able to stand without a rain fly and this tent definitely did not, with a slight breeze it started to collapse.

I see why ozark discontinued this model and updated it with more poles and stability. Don’t waste your money on this tent get the updated version with 6 poles not 4.

Such an easy no fuss tent for a first time solo camper! Easy to put up and put down! Fits a double blow up mattress in with a good space at either side of the door way for all my belongings to sit. This tent held up against the crazy non stop heavy rain and wind whilst in the Lake District with no real concerning issues.

The only downside to this tent is there is no canopy at the door- so in the rain I had to have it closed ((this is my first time purchasing a tent so that’s something I’ve learned for future purchases)) but I’m going to buy a canopy/ tarp to pop over to create a shelter, so I can chill with the doors open during a downpour.

I’m super happy with my little tent though! She’s a little beastie :)).

This tent was water proof during some pretty intense rain, it also acted as a great shield from my lovely but clumsy mates who kept falling on top of it. It also looked great compared to some of the whoppers people tried to pass of as a tent, they where mystified by my tents quality by the time Judas Priest hit the main stage.

Life was just better in this tent and I sit in my house now craving a simpler time.

Just had a night in the Scottish Highlands with 9mm rain per hour and galeforce winds. The tent stood its ground, no leaks, no breakage. Due to the shape wind just flattens it but nothing else happens.

As its very easy to pitch you dont get wet either!!!.

the “cram it all into a narrow opening” style. I’m always amazed how the whole tent fits inside easily. Definitely a win vs. other tents we’ve owned. – Light weight – Good ventilation: Features like pop-out top windows in the fly and a back window for both the tent and the fly ensure great air flow.

– Gear loft – Included footprint helps keep the tent cleaner and protected from rocks/sticks – Nice styling and love the yellow color! Cons: – Hard to set up with only 1 person. This wouldn’t be a problem if you have multiple adults (or a larger kid) around.

which is likely true if you’re using a 6-person tent! But if you’re the solo adult with lots of tiny kids, prepare for a bit of a challenge. – Due to the lightweight materials, they’re not super super durable.

Our toddler dragged the heavy pole bag on asphalt, and it instantly got a few small holes. I don’t blame the tent-maker for this, I blame my kid! The bag still works fine, and it was a good opportunity to teach my kid a lesson about taking good care of our camping gear.

But if you need something completely indestructible, this tent might not be your first choice. We absolutely love the light weight, and will teach our kids to take good care of these higher performance materials.

We look forward to taking this tent on many more family camping adventures!.

Extremely happy! We’re a family 3 (2 adults and a 10yo) plus a large dog and with all of us and our gear, there was room to spare. The tent was extremely easy to assemble with easy-to-follow waterproof directions (for both set up and breakdown) attached to the handled bag.

We’ve now set it up twice now and each time took us less than 10 minutes to fully set up from beginning to end. It has excellent ventilation, a large entry opening, roof and side pockets for storage, and we all absolutely love the star view window! We slept without the rainfly the first night and second night with.

Construction-wise, everything is extremely well made, and the design is well thought out. The poles are very sturdy but lightweight, strong grommets and the tent is well reinforced so it should hold up for years of excursions and use.

Breakdown was also very simple and we were easily able to get it down and back in its carry bag with zero struggle. We all love it and look forward to creating many wonderful memories and adventures with our Peak1 Tent!.

Very pleased with the purchase, especially as I brought it while it still costs $141. Great size and price, easy to put up and pack away. I really like awning at the front as well. Just be mindful the top has these ‘mesh’ windows, I’m guessing for ventilation that you cannot close.

So cold air/wind does drop down on you during the nights.

It took me about 4 minutes from opening the bag to getting it up without the cover. I thought this is too easy and that it would be a nightmare to get down but it was easy. About 1 minute down and in the bag.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants a great size tent and plenty of room.

This tent was okay, first let me start with the positives, 4 rooms I mean HELLO SPACE! It was nice having rooms on each corner and a central space in the middle. We used this one in our backyard and it did fine.

Set up was okay (about 20 min in the dark). We did however end up returning this for a 3 room instant tent and here is why: for starters the 4 rooms seemed small, with a queen size bed it pretty much didn’t allow any walking space.

We had two blow up air mattress in the second space that spilled out into the center of the tent and the privacy dividers on each room seemed pointless as we couldn’t walk around the bed. Our son was comfortable with a twin blow up mattress and had tons of room in his section.

Also, we were able to put a 6ft table in the middle with chairs! So that was really nice but the “4th room” is really just a entryway so we used it more as a mud room. I am 6ft 1 and my husband is 6ft 6 and he felt very cramped and kept hitting his head, but I was comfortable and felt fine walking the space.

We returned this one and bought a 3 room Ozark instant tent which was better for our family of 6 space wise. Still a good tent just not for us.

This is my 4th Ozark Trail 14-person 4-room with 4 entrances TENT. I keep them up 24/7, 365 days per year, and they always last 9-months or more-that’s over a hundred camping days in sun, rain, and snow, until mine finally die from daily sun rot, pole break, or whatever.

Since I leave it up year-round, I sometimes lay a tarp over it, so it’s protected from the sun rot; slows the aging of the nylon down. So if you are going to camp out in your huge backyard any old time you want, like I do with my grandkids and dogs, (I have privacy fences, and a lot of room), or if you just put it up a dozen camping trips per year, and pack it away for the next summer, this is your baby!! You won’t be sorry, I promise.

It has a bathtub floor, and the walls don’t leak from even 4 or 5 sequential HEAVY days of rain! I have never treated mine with rain stuff. (I love, love, love to sit in there and read, with the pounding rain coming down all around me, all warm and cozy.

) In my room, I have 1 queen inflatable mattress-(I’m going to switch to a full because it’s just me, and a full size would give me some more space. ) In each of the next 2 rooms, I have 1 army cot with plenty of room to spare, with walking room, and a 3-shelf canvas camping end table, and storage under the cots, etc.

; in the middle room, I have a big easy chair, a small table, a twin inflatable mattress that flips closed, after you wake up, and converts into a comfy chair. All rooms have 2 windows that zip closed, an inside privacy door that zips closed, as well, All 4 rooms have their own doors that lead to the outside! I use the one ‘room’ for the entranceway with just chairs on each side.

And of course I have tons of camp lights, camp fans, sheets, pillows, blankets, games, books, a 100-foot extension cord that has it’s own slot to come into the tent. Plenty of comfort camping, here!.

I am writing this review while it is raining pretty hard out. Where my family is staying we are in the yellow and red spots on the radar of this rain storm. The tent did leak after about 2 hours of this abuse but the leaks were minor in comparison to how bad I thought they would be by some of the negative reviews I read on here.

The tent material is completely saturated but the water that did make it in pooled in the corners by the doors or came in from the seams where the room dividers are connected. My wife did mention the occasional drop that would come down from the rain fly but as I said this tent withstood a lot of rain abuse tonight.

Check the weather before you go camping if its going to rain make some adjustments (buy products to weatherproof the tent, hang up tarps at the campsite, etc. ) and you will be fine. The tent is smaller than I imagined but still a big tent and 2 people set it up easy enough.

The room dividers were great each kid had his own room. The common area is big enough to entertain the family. Would definitely recommend this tent. We will be buying something to seal the seams better but I am happy with how this tent performed in the rain.
