Ink tank printers are ideal for home use because they are very affordable and easy to operate. Ink tank printers use refillable ink tanks instead of cartridges, so you can save money by buying ink in bulk.
These printers also have a much higher page yield than traditional printers, so you can print more pages without having to replace the ink tanks as often.
Print everything from everyday documents to lab-quality photos and graphics with the EcoTank Photo ET-8550 Wireless Color All-in-One Supertank Printer from Epson. Featuring an economical cartridge-free printing system, this printer offers low-cost replacement ink bottles without sacrificing print quality.
Each replacement ink bottle set is equivalent to approximately 100 individual ink cartridges. The ET-8550 lets you print everything from 3. 5 x 5″ to 13 x 19″ borderless photos to customized CDs and DVDs.
A six-color Claria ET Premium Ink system delivers vibrant colors and sharp text for all your creative projects, and you can even print on cardstock and other media up to 1. 3mm thick. A 4. 3″ color touchscreen offers fast and easy performance and voice-activated printing is supported as well.
Mobile-ready, you can print, scan, and more with the Epson Smart Panel app, which lets you monitor and operate your printer directly from your iOS or Android mobile device. Additionally, a SD card slot and USB port are provided for direct printing.
For scanning, an 8. 5 x 14″ flatbed scanner delivers high-resolution scans up to 4800 x 1200 dpi, and the unit lets you make up to 99 copies at a time.

After doing a LOT of research on cartridge-free printers, I’m glad I found this printer. Despite the many models of Epson EcoTanks, few seemed to have all the features I wanted, as the HP 7301 does, particularly auto-duplex printing and wireless connectivity.
And those that did have those features were unavailable! Though the HP 7301 doesn’t have a phone connection for faxing (a now somewhat antiquated technology but still needed occasionally), it’s easy to send (but not receive!) faxes by scanning the content and then using HP’s software to send that content to a particular fax number.
Works fine! As with all the cartridge-less printers, the 7301 is pretty pricey, but you save an enormous amount by not spending $30 for a paltry amount of ink in each cartridge: the same amount of money buys a huge amount of ink for this printer! And the quality of the prints is terrific: crisp and color-correct, something that reviews of Epson and Canon copiers sometimes criticized.
My major problem with this printer is the clunkiness of the software and getting the printer set up. I had trouble getting back into setup mode when it was interrupted. Follow the instructions carefully, because the process is inordinately complex! The biggest setup hassle by far was the failure of the tricolor printhead.
The black printhead installed without problem, but numerous tries to install the tricolor printhead failed. After running the gauntlet to actually talk to a person at HP Support (an involved and time-consuming annoyance), I was told by the agent to simply return the printer to the seller (Staples).
Besides being a hassle, it seemed to me a complete waste to return a brand new printer because a single part malfunctioned, and I told the agent so. Only when I insisted did she get permission from her supervisor to mail me a replacement tricolor printhead, which fixed the problem, and surely saved HP and Staples money! So after using this printer for several months, I can recommend it highly, once you succeed in setting it up.
The HP Smart Tank 7301 Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer provides a solid printing and scanning experience. Setup is quick; simply remove the tape and internal cardboard, plug it into the wall and power it up.
I downloaded the HP Smart app on my Android phone, and it walked me through setting up the WiFi, filling the ink tanks, installing the printheads, loading paper, and aligning the printheads. The Smart Tank printers do require the ink tanks to be filled before the printheads are installed.
This is a different startup process than non-tank printers so I highly recommend the HP Smart setup process for detailed animations that explain what you need to do. Once you see how it is done, it is very easy to fill the tank due to the spill-proof refill design.
The HP Smart Tank 7301 can work on either 2. 4GHz or 5GHz WiFi frequencies which I appreciate because I can have it on the frequency with the least devices. If the printer has issues with connectivity, it has the capability to automatically connect to another frequency to keep print jobs rolling.
It can also connect via Bluetooth, USB 2. 0, and Ethernet cord. The printer does come with HP32XL black ink, HP31 Cyan ink, HP31 Magenta ink, and HP31 Yellow ink which is enough ink to get 8000 color pages or 6000 black pages.
The printer has 8 buttons facing up and a 2-line LCD display that face up near the front of the unit. I appreciated that the buttons will contextually light up depending on the job the printer is doing so that you can quickly see which buttons may be useful for that particular job.
It does have ID printing which is a nice feature that will scan both sides of an ID and print them both on one side of a piece of paper. There is an auto feeder that works for both printing and scanning which holds about 35 sheets.
Paper capacity is 250 sheets which is a nice amount for handling several large print jobs before needing to be refilled. The print speed was impressively fast, with color jobs running at 9 pages per minute and black/white jobs running at 15 pages per minute.
With a recommended monthly printed page volume of 400 to 800 pages (same for scans), this printer easily handles the modest of work that I have for it. I think this would be a nice printer for the entire family to use or even the small home office.
I appreciate that HP has committed to more environmentally friendly hardware, with 25% of the plastic on this printer coming from other recycled electronics. Overall, the HP Smart Tank 7301 is a very nice entry into the field of family or small office color printing.
It is easy and intuitive to use, quick to setup, and performs flawlessly. I do recommend utilizing the HP Smart app for easy printing, scanning, and diagnostics.
Throw away your cartridges and enjoy flawless printing from this Epson Expression EcoTank printer. Compact in size and ideal for home use, this machine features an easy-to-read screen for quick setting.
The front-facing fill tank on this Epson Expression EcoTank printer reduces refill messes, and Wi-Fi compatibility means you can print from your tablet or phone.
This is much too soon to rate or review a significant product but my initial response is to compare it with my XP720 that I thought was brilliant and was very sorry to see it go because it had a fault that appeared to be fatal and the service people thought that it might take a fortnight to get spare parts etc.
It is clear that the eco tank approach is good and this version has picked up on the home built versions offered widely. It is also much tidier than the addon approach and of course the retail price has been inflated to offset the high prices charged for the cartridges.
I have always used other cartridges without any problemThe most negative aspect is the loss of the driven output tray which was an improvement on my earlier XP605. I see there is a rack on one of the trays but I guess this is the next step of development.
I would have waited for the next update model but cannot do without a printer and decided to find the best value version which turned out to be a model that must have been returned as the original box had some modest damage but the printer was perfect although possibly not a UK version as it was supplied with a 2pin plug.
As I suspected the lead from either of my previous printers with 13 amp plugs was interchangeable. I am hoping that this photo model will be as excellent as the previous one but it is simply too soon to tell.
Ask again in a month if you really want an answer.
Just received this EcoTank printer today. It was easy to set up and start printing. I like the sleek, smaller design. It doesn’t take much space in the office. Only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that the paper has to sit in a rear tray which I didn’t realise.
It doesn’t have it’s own paper storage lying flat inside, it sits upright at the back of the printer. Also the LED screen is very small, not easy to read the tiny print. Apart from that the printer seems like just what I needed, even though I have not used it much yet.
Looking forward to see how cost effective it will be.
I’ve been using ET-2750 for 3 weeks now. The unit is compact which is good as it gives us extra space on our study table. The set up was fairly easy once I followed the youtube tutorial. The installation was pretty straightforward.
The wireless capability is reliable and so convenient. The print quality is good, the colour print is bright and accurate. No colour mixing or faded colours so far. The scanner is a bit slow but the resolution is very good.
I have been using this daily for my daughter’s homeschooling, crafts, colouring pages and personal documents. Top reasons I bought this printer: double sided printing and low ink cost. At the rate that it’s going, it looks like the ink will make it to 2 years.
It has all the basic functions that our household needs. All in all, I am very happy with it. Hope it lasts long.

Canon, a company that manufactures outstanding photo equipment as attested to by the many pros who use it, could not bother to put sufficient effort in designing this printer. It has an LED display that is unlit and requires the user to use a flashlight to read; it comes with a poor user manual that requires a lot of guess work and user support that is inadequate at best.
The user support tech that I tapped into could not solve my problem and claimed, after remotely accessing my printer that I had 500 trojan infections. Fortunately I contract with a computer consultant who after inspecting my computer found this to be untrue.
I finally solved the problem on my own. What should be simple tasks on my printer, like establishing settings to change color to black and white or the size paper becomes a major task and of course the manual is of limited help not to mention the poor visibility of the LED display.
After a major investment in time and energy things are starting to finally come together and I’m sure using the machine will continue to become easier but for Canon to produce such an unfriendly machine is inexcusable given the technical resources and personnel that Canon has at hand to design a user friendly machine.
A plus is that the print is superb and no small consideration in the fact that I have not returned my printer to the retailer. I junked an Epson printer because of poor print performance and lack of repair facilities in NJ.
Seems ridiculous to say, but I really do love this printer. I spent way too much time researching and trying to find the best printer for our small business office. Conflicting reviews only added to my difficulty in making a decision.
Out of time I decided on this one, G6020. On our previous, still functioning Canon, I was spending between $120-150 every month on ink. I figured if this only lasted a year I was still saving money. Set up was very easy and if you had any questions, there are corresponding videos for each step.
There was 2 large black inks, and each of the colors. So they are providing you a full set AND a backup black ink in the box to start!! No little testers that print 5pgs here!! I got no ink on myself or anything else while filling the super large tanks and I love that you can clearly see the levels of each color.
Let the printing begin! I was rather neurotic previously on people printing unnecessary color copies because of our insane ink costs. Print away my friends! We needed a printer that had auto duplex printing (surprisingly not all new printers can do this), ability to print envelopes, legal size pages, and occasionally photos, while also scanning and copying.
The only thing we haven’t tried yet is the photos, but everything else has been great. We also love that there is a larger paper tray so we aren’t constantly replacing paper. It’s been a week full of printing and I can tell you the ink hasn’t dropped even a little.
We printed multiple colored menus, I did 500 envelopes, checks and invoices, plus all our regular day to day printing. If I had to give one minor criticism, it is a little loud and the screen is small.
Other than that, it is PERFECT!! The real question is why aren’t all printers like this?!.

IšverstiShow in original languageIf you plan only to print–and do little else–this is a very competent device. Speed and clarity of text printing is good (I haven’t printed pictures, so I can’t evaluate that).
And setup was pretty straightforward for printing. BUT–this is a multi-function device, and you’ve paid for a multi-function device, so all of the functions should work equally as well. They do not.
1. Copying: copies of text are quite good. However, it is literally decades since I’ve had a printer that produces copies in reverse order. If you frequently want to put more than 2-3 pages into the document feeder, you’ll find it really irritating to re-sort and put the copies in order before stapling–and really annoying if you forget to do so before stapling.
Also, I don’t know the last time I’ve had a printer at home or at work that requires the pages to be placed face down rather than up. I guess eventually I’ll get used to this but in the meantime (two months in), I keep messing up from force of long habit.
2. Fax: Yes it faxes, but there’s no automatic way to know that it’s done so! No message on the screen that the fax has been sent successfully, no automatic printing of a fax report, AND no way to set the machine to do these things.
Each time you’ve tried to fax, you’ll need to hit several buttons to reach the print fax-report button. Which means that you have to go through that process each time just to find out that someone’s fax didn’t pick up, or that their line was out of order or.
That’s absurd. This is bad enough that I’m actually thinking of getting rid of the machine and buying an HP again. 3. Scan: I found it very tricky to find the setup that would allow me to use the machine’s touchpad to initiate scans.
And no matter what, it refuses to produce my scans as PDFs, only as JPGs that I then have to convert to PDF. Scan to OCR? Forget it. That’s after following the instructions in the manual, searching the Brother site for further instructions and following them to a T.
Nothing doing. All in all–I started out writing this review having given the machine 3 stars, but as I wrote, I realized that the only thing I’m satisfied with is printing, and that what I’ve written is a 2-star report.
So that’s what I’ve wound up giving it. If you rarely fax or scan or copy multi-page documents, you’ll be happy with the printer.
IšverstiShow in original languageBought this to allow printing from our Chromebooks and phones, which were no longer supported by our C***n all in one. The use of the product is a bit more complicated and some of the options are hard to find, but it does do what it is supposed to do and the printing seems to be good.
We were diappointed that it took about half the ink in the starter cartridge to load the inner tanks. You would think they could afford to give a standard or XL cartridge so the new owners don’t feel like they are going to run out of ink so soon! Received the printer with the wrong black cartridge, which was quickly remedied by Brother support.
When we tried to connect the USB and CAT cables we were surprised: there was no wired connection and the USB port was about 8-10 inches inside the printer underneath the scanning platform via a wave shaped indentation in the lower body.
Some thicker USB cables might have trouble fitting in?.
IšverstiShow in original languageI used to be a customer or another brand for many years so I took a chance with Brother and this particular model after I reviewed comments in several websites and online retailers.
I am so glad I bought this all-in-one printer. It works fantastic. Great printer, excellent scanner and all the other features have not let me down. Two months and I would buy it again right away. The INK last a long time, we print a ton in our home and still has the original cartridges.
It’s silence mode is perfect to place it in our bedroom as well. I have not run into any issues. The software is different than the other brand and it can be overwhelming at the beginning if you don’t take the time to check the manual.
Once you do it a couple of times though it just easy. I just the change to go from one company’s software to another. You have a lot of customizations for every feature. I tweaked the ones I needed, but left the other ones alone and it just works great for me.
You won’t be disappointed with this model. Also, their customer service is much better than I expected and you actually talk to a real human being that does not give you excuses and/or run the same canned instructions again and again.
It was just a great experience asking simple questions and not being treated like a number or somebody who just don’t know what he/she is doing.

Off the bat, setup was maybe a total of 35 minutes from the time I started unboxing it. After that great start, I also found The Epson ET-2800 printer easy to use. The quality of the printing has been perfect for my business and personal use.
I work from home (graphic design) so this comes in especially handy for me because sub-par quality is not an option for my customers and they were not disappointed. I’ll cover that more a little later on the review.
Another amazing feature, and in some ways the best one of all is the ET-2800 comes with more than enough ink so re-ordering toner as frequently as I normally do is one less thing I will have to worry about.
Loading the ink tanks was easy and without any hassle. You can load paper into the ET-2800 via the front tray, rear paper feed or automatic feeder. The wireless capability made it so I could use it from any device in the house which is super convenient for schoolwork, my business, or just for fun.
There are even voice-activated commands that both me and my daughter got a kick out of, not to mention it makes it extra convenient when I need an extra set of hands that aren’t available. The ET-2800 features a small colored screen that makes faxing, scanning, and settings adjustments a breeze.
The print quality is top of the line. Accurate colors, no smudges, and clear as can be. You’d think that a machine with all of these capabilities would take up a ton of space, but it doesn’t. It fits right next to my desktop in my home office and takes up even less space than my other inkjet printer that held far less ink and wasn’t as productive as this machine.
I highly recommend this for home use, especially if you work from home. This is a review for the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 Wireless Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.
I wanted a printer that allows me to print checks and envelopes, as well as photos and note cards. I have been reviewing printers for over a month and really had my heart set on same brand, but the higher up version because this one doesn’t do auto two-sided printing.
But, did I want to pay more for that feature? Thankfully, I have access to a b&w laser printer that does auto two-sided printing and I don’t print a lot of documents anyways. This printer saved me money, was in stock, and was discounted on sale.
The other advantage over other brands is the ink tanks. I got the printer home, unpacked it and plugged it in, added the ink which was super, super easy plus there is still a tad bit of ink in the bottles and the lids lock tight for storing.
Setting up the printer via the app on the phone was spot-on, too. It is guided and it is done through what looks like a chat window, helping you through the steps with diagrams. I honestly didn’t have to access the screen on the printer, except to confirm paper size.
I would have preferred tray loading of stock paper, envelopes, etc. but instead, all paper is fed through the back. After working with the printer on. a few prints, I realized that this is better than paper trays for my purpose.
I printed a few envelopes and they printed beautifully. The only exception is if you have only one envelope in the feeder, then it can smudge a little on the leading edge. Solution is to always have more than one envelope, even if you print just one.
Loading was intuitive, too. With other printers, I have problems trying to determine orientation of envelopes and checks. With this printer, it was so intuitive that I got it right the first time and confident.
I won’t have issues in the future! After I printed envelopes, I decided to print a check. I only loaded one check and got it right. The quality came out really well and no smudges. Totally professional.
I did print some documents and they looked stunning, too. The speed is “ok” and for my needs, it works out just fine. Setting the printer up on the Mac was so easy. It found the printer and with a minute, was able to print a test document wirelessly.
I can check on ink levels, etc. Even though the printer is advertised in various ways that this doesn’t have auto two-sided printing, I am giving it four stars. I feel that if Epson really cares about the environment, that they would not make a printer that wasn’t auto two-sided printer.
Not saying they don’t care… but it isn’t representative in the product you are making. Save on ink and plastics, yes… but paper and trees. it’s on me to manually flip to save the trees and bees! I also gave it four stars because there are too many variations of the same printer and it adds complexity to deciding which model works for me.
Each has their pros and cons and if they narrowed their product line down to less models, maybe they would have more in stock? I do really like the screen on the printer. The whole screen and buttons are on a panel that flips up so you can look at it from above rather than squatting in front of the printer.
Love it! The printer does sometimes doesn’t print until I interact with the printer if the paper size changes. Not a big deal… I click OK and confirm yes/no via the up or down arrows and it starts printing correctly.
I went with Epson because of the ink technology and seems that they have a solid line of printers. The printers that has the ink tank technology does cost more, but it looks like refilling will be cheaper than the cartridges.
I would recommend this for the home or home office. Using the printer on a daily basis would not be an issue with this one. If you print two sided a lot, you may want to look for a higher-up model or do what I have… a secondary b&w laser printer.
Epson is a good brand. They are putting a lot of focus on ensuring that they have a quality app, instructions, setup, and features on various price levels.

Great printer – good supply of ink good capacity paper tray. Extra supply of black ink a bonus. Added bonus is removeable print heads. I have another make of ink tank printer I have had for 4 years now that has given great service BUT the head got clogged and try as I might the yellow just wont clear.
Its print head is fixed and if normal clean routine wont you basically you are stuck with a non functioning printer. The Canon removable heads mean if it should ever get clocked it will be way easier to unclog.
A BIG plus Filling the ink with the supplied bottles is a real doddle and no split ink. The running costs will be a fraction of using cartridge based printers and not having to faff with changing cartridges.
It is well worth the extra initial cost if you are a medium to heavy user. print quality so far has been great. Print speed is not as quick as claimed. The duplexing feature is great and it is good to see it pauses between each side in order for the ink on 1st page to dry.
Now the downside. The software/setup/android app/printer setup to enable it to print wirelessly from a phone is absolutely AWFUL Its by far the worst I have ever come across. The Canon help videos are next to useless the Android phone app just wont work so far to get it to see the printer in spite offollowing the directions.
I have never come across such a frustrating printer app. The other downside is the abysmal 2 line monochrome unlit screen. Quite why they continue using such a primitive screen is extraordinary in this day and age.
My other Canon Pixma MF7150 that I use for photos has a nice coloured touch screen. So in summary a good quality printer with the advantages of low cost printing, duplex functions, good paper options but let down by primitive 2line LED screen and abysmal app making it virtually impossible to connect wirelessly from a phone (haven’t tried laptop yet its likely to be just as bad as android phone).
Pros: Bulk Ink fill is fantastic for us as we print a lot every day. This makes the printer super cheap to use, even the genuine Cannon Inks are very reasonably priced. 250 sheet paper capacity is good too.
Cons: YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS!!!So this printer is a bulk fill ink model with 250 sheet paper capacity obviously aimed at customers that print a lot and need these features to help reduce the costs and improve convenience when printing a lot of documents every day.
Unfortunately there is a flaw in the design, the printer has waste ink absorbent pads built into it that soak up waste ink from printing and the automatic and regular print head cleaning functions that the printer run.
The issue is that these pads cannot be replaced and so have a finite life , the printer counts how many cleaning functions it has run and then starts warning you the pads are nearly full and then that they are full.
You cannot replace the pads yourself and even if you could you cannot reset the printers counter telling it that the pads are full The only option is to send it back to a single UK cannon service centre for a hugely expensive service and fitting of new pads and reset of software.
This happened to us in 14 months of printing roughly 200 sheets of text a day, just outside of the manufacturer’s warranty !!This is basically built in obsolescence, isn’t this not allowed now, are we not supposed to be able to repair electronic goods ?Such a good printer ruined by the most ridiculous design flaw.
The Eco Tank ET-2720 wireless all-in-one super tank printer offers Cartridge-Free Printing with easy-to-fill, supersized ink tanks. You get up to 2 years of ink with each included or replacement ink set.
and, each replacement ink bottle set includes enough ink to print up to 4,500 pages equivalent to about 80 individual cartridges. That means less waste.
I bought this to replace another printer that was an “ink hog. ” I have only had it a week or two, but love it already. I love the fact that it doesn’t use ink cartridges and that you can fill the ink yourself, so in the long run it should save a tons of money.
I downloaded the necessary driver files for using it on Linux Mint and it connected right away. Very happy to have a good printer that is compatible with several OS. Also the ink bottles had maybe an extra oz or less left in the bottles after the tanks were full, so after setting it up, you can empty bottles in the tanks.
I have printed several pages of paper through it and ink levels have barely dropped at all. I read a couple reviews, before purchasing this model, of people who were able to have the ink last for over 2 years.
We will have to put that one to the test. Make sure you print at least something every week or so to keep printheads and other parts unclogged. The ink bottles are specially shaped on the end so it can only plug into the correct tank color to fill, that is a very smart detail EPSON chose.
I needed a good dependable printer and a good photo printer and this is the one I needed. Thank you Staples and EPSON!.
I have decided to throw this printer into the rubbish bin. I refuse to spend $100 plus to fix a paper jam because of this poorly design Epson ET 2720 printer. As you know paper jams are a common problem with printers and to have a printer that is completely sealed all around is stupid.
If you cannot easily access the inside of the printer it’s a major problem. I will NEVER buy an Epson printer again. A complete waste of money. I have informed Epson that I will be putting my comments on a product review site to bring this problem to the attention of other buyers.
The advise Epson provided has not resolved this problem because the printer needs to be taken to a service centre so they can dismantle the printer to remove the torn piece of paper that is the size of a finger nail.
I was really looking forward to using the new line of eco-tank printers. Refillable ink sounds like a dream when replacement cartridges are overpriced and aftermarket cartridges don’t deliver quality.
For comparison, I have a 1 year old HP inkjet printer, which isn’t in the same price range and was being replaced. Black and white prints are fine. Tested a 4×6 photo on glossy paper, disappointment kicks in.
The photo is worse than the HP printer that cost less than half the money and even worse, 25% of the ink tank is consumed with one photo. The LCD screen is extremely small and very difficult to read due to a low resolution pixelated display.
This printer does not support any sort of fax, and no double sided printing, in 2020, for a $200. 00 printer. The selling point of this printer is refillable ink, which if you buy Epson branded ink, is not exactly cheap.
I will be returning this and sticking with cartridge printing. This is a great option for someone churning out lots of low resolution documents and want the convenience of refilling ink. For those that print occasional color pictures, or heavy color use, this printer falls short.
It is not packed with options either. I suppose the more expensive eco tank printers will deliver the options I feel this printer is missing, but at the higher price point, the value decreases tremendously.

Assuming you are asking for a conclusion on ink tank printers for home use:
Overall, ink tank printers are a great option for home use, especially if you print a lot. They are typically more expensive upfront, but you end up saving money in the long run since you don’t have to constantly buy new ink cartridges.
Plus, they have a much higher page yield, so you don’t have to worry about running out of ink in the middle of a print job.
