Including the type of feeder, the location of the feeder, and the type of bees. However, some beekeepers recommend using a feeder with a narrow opening, such as a hummingbird feeder, to help keep bees away from the nectar.
20 Best Hummingbird Feeders To Keep Bees Away
1. Best 32 oz. Hummingbird Feeder, Red
Top to Bottom: 8 Overall Width
Side to Side: 6 Overall Depth
Front to Back: 6 Mounting Pole: No Mounting Pole Height
This beautiful hummingbird feeder is bee and wasp proof, made of glass, and easy to fill with up to 32 ounces of hummingbird nectar. There’s no reason to look any further than this! If you want a hummingbird feeder that can feed lots of hummingbirds and is easy to clean, this Glass Bottle Hummingbird Feeder is the perfect choice! At 7 inches across and 10 inches tall, it holds up to 32 ounces of food for your neighborhood hummingbirds.
Plus it quickly comes apart for easy cleaning so you can keep your hummingbirds healthy and happy.
My Wife of 50 years and I have been feeding hummingbirds for over 45 years in the high mountains of Colorado. We have twelve feeders up and most we fill twice a day some favorites we fill 4 times. 10 pounds+ of sugar a day in July.
We have always used a 24 OZ. Perky Pet feeder. I found the 36 OZ Best-1 feeder and the extra OZ capacity appealed as we can’t leave the house for more than 4 hours. At first I thought the feeder would attract bees.
I was wrong. We fill and rinse. it keeps bees away as good as or better than the others. The base is VERY easy to dump & clean. The glass bottle is sturdy but too cluttered with typeface information.
it’s hard to see the juice level at any distance for old eyes. All in all this feeder has exceeded my expectations and I am very pleased with it. From a bird point of view the base is of excellent design.
The birds can sit close together and still find the feeder hole. A wonderful feeder and I will be ordering another couple of them. Plus they are a good dollar value. Even though we have all of our 12 feeders on pully’s and out of reach of bears they occasionally snag one by standing on the porch rail damaging it.
I see parts are available. Thanks for offering a quality affordable product.
I am holding back one star at the moment. I love everything about this bird feeder, glass and plastic construction (no metal to rust), the amount it holds, etc. I will reserve the 5th star to see how long it lasts before it starts to leak.
Every feeder I’ve used in the past either rusted or leaked all over the porch rail. I filled this and started using it about 3 days ago and the birds love it. I did notice, however, that there was some leakage and that’s an issue I’ve had with each and every other feeder.
I want nothing more than to have a feeder that doesn’t leak and holds enough nectar that I don’t have to change it every day.
I bought 3 of these 25+ years ago and finally last year one of them fell onto the patio floor and broke. I went back to the store I got them all those years ago and they did not have them. I asked to have the owner call me and he never did! So, finally I went online to see if I could find them when I discovered the name and town & state on the bottom of the product.
Prices are all over the place, so shop wisely all. These are some of the best hummingbird feeders on earth. I bought 3 different kinds for a second home and I do not like them nearly as much.
There are more than 300 species of hummingbird in the Western Hemisphere, and, with this hummingbird feeder, you’re bound to see at least a couple of them at your window. Perky Pet’s 8 oz plastic feeder features a no-drip feeding base with two easy feeding flowers and two perches.
Mount the feeder on your window with the included suction cup or hang it with a screw or nail elsewhere. Kids love to watch the birds feeding, which is a great way to teach them about wildlife and migration.
The feeder is easy to fill and clean. The Window Mount Hummingbird Feeder easily attaches to a window, wall, or post, so you can enjoy watching hummingbirds from the windows of your house. The clear acrylic feeder bottle is built for strength and durability.
It has an 8 oz nectar capacity and quick release clips, so moving the feeder is easy and convenient. The feeder has an easy-to-clean wide-mouth design and a no-drip feeding base so nectar will not be wasted.
The two feeding stations each have perches and snap-on yellow flower accents to add interest and attract hummingbirds.
I have alot of hummingbirds every year. I wasn’t able to watch them unless I sat on my porch. A friend of mine had a window feeder and suggested that I buy one and see if the birds liked them or not.
I tried a couple of different kinds, but these feeders are the ones that they loved. I bought several of these feeders for a backup just in case I happened to drop one, and if I needed to put more out.
These hummingbird feeders a very easy to use, they are straight and sturdy and my babies love them. I definitely suggest that bird lovers purchase them!!.
Perky Pet changed this design from 2 ports to 3. The only issue with that is the third one is on the outside so you don’t see the hummingbird on that port. _x005F_x000D_ I’ve owned 6 of the old design.
My windows are on the sunniest side of my house – sun all day. Over the spring and summer the feeders get discolored and the prongs on back break easy. The feeder is useless then. That’s why I’ve owned so many feeders!_x005F_x000D_ The hummers seem to like the plastic feeders vs glass ones.
Don’t know why. I have two glass ones in storage as they wouldn’t use.
This is a great feeder. We have it hung on a north window and the birds absolutely love it. We had a two port feeder hanging there for about five years and they liked it, but it finally wore out. The three port feeder seems to make them more comfortable sharing.
If you love hummingbirds as much as we do, you will love this feeder. It is so enjoyable watching them.
The More Birds Ruby Hummingbird Feeder with the deep red top and base with 5 yellow flower shaped perch feeding ports is designed to attract hummingbirds. The wide mouth of the glass bottle makes the feeder easy to fill and clean, simply detach the base by twisting the base off from the bottle.
The built-in ant moat stops ants right in their tracks, keeping precious nectar fresh for hungry hummers. With a 10 oz nectar capacity, it provides plenty of nectar to keep hummingbirds happy and coming back for more!.
This is the best hummingbird feeder design I’ve found so far. I love how this feeder comes apart for cleaning. The two piece bottom and the wide mouth bottle make it easy to scrub and sanitize them. The two piece bottom does a good job shedding rain so the juice does not become watered down.
The ant moat at top is effective at stopping those pesky big red and black ants we have around here. The hummers also seem to like the distance from the perches to the flowers as well as the angle of the flowers.
I liked the design so much I ordered three so I can rotate the feeders while cleaning the one I just took down. Good job, More Birds!.
I really like this feeder. It’s doesn’t leak if turned over quickly and they are much easier to clean than others I’ve used. I ordered a couple and realized how good they are so started looking for more.
I have a total of ten of the Garnet 20 oz. feeders and 8 of the Health +Ruby ten oz. The flower is white with a purple silicone center. The red plastic is easier to clean than the plastic on other feeder I’ve used.
Also I haven’t seen any mold like I did on other plastic flowers. I highly recommend these feeders over any other I’ve tried. Sometimes I seen them on sale and will get more.
I love this feeder and so do the birds!. Last year I had another feeder that they loved and this year they decided they didn’t. I was determined to get them to come back. I was soo disappointed and then after 3 other feeders I finally found this one that my friend had and.
yay!. they came back!!♡. They just love it and like to sit on the perch for a long time. I’m not sure why but it doesn’t leak at all while hanging which was an issue with other feeders but when I take it down to clean it leaks.
I just put a paper plate under it so no big deal. I love that the ports are plastic so can’t rust like others which deters the birds.
The Humm-Bug Hummingbird Protein Feeder attracts hummingbirds by first attracting fruit flies, a favourite treat for these tiny fine-feathered friends. Simply open the two-piece feeder, add 2 to 3 bananas and within a few days, hummingbirds will arrive to feast on the fruit flies.
Hummingbirds cannot live on nectar alone – protein and vitamins found in small insects are essential for their survival. Fruit flies are one of hummingbirds’ favourite foods and a single bird can eat hundreds a day.
Hummingbirds also feed their young nectar and insects about every 20 minutes. The Humm-Bug Feeder should be hung in a dry, shaded area. For best results, hang the feeder next to flowers and/or a nectar feeder.
Lift the lid and place 2-3 bananas in the center of the feeder. Empty, rinse and refill every 3 weeks.
I’ve noticed in the spring when hummingbird chicks need to be fed, I often stop seeing hummingbirds at my nectar feeders. Hummingbirds need protein that nectar doesn’t supply, and I think the parents spend their time looking for insects to feed the chicks.
This feeder should encourage the birds to continue to be where I can see them while they hunt for fruit flies.
It’s been a little over a week since I put my feeder out and the fruit flies are coming around. I put it near my nectar feeders so hopefully the hummers will start using it. I’m so excited. What a great idea!.
The hummingbird feeder is a great product, it is eco friendly. I throw in my rotting bananas, banana peels or even the pieces my kids drop on the floor or refuse to eat. It attracts and creates a breeding ground for fruit flies and supplies protein for the hummingbirds.
I love that it has places for the hummingbirds to perch and snack. I was looking for something durable and made of plastic(we have very strong winds) as this is. It’s everything I was looking for in a hummingbird feeder.
The Best 1 72 Ounce Hummingbird Feeder is great for high-traffic hummingbird areas. The large 72 ounce capacity nectar container is made of plastic, using the same plastic base as the other fantastic bee and wasp proof hummingbird feeders from Best 1.
There is no o-ring on the Best 1 Hummingbird feeders to ever dry out, so it will not leak or drip. The base of the feeder comes apart easily for quick and easy cleaning. All Best 1 Hummingbird Feeders are proudly made in the USA in Texas.
I have a bunch of hummingbirds. I had a couple smaller feeders and a medium job that I was filling twice a day. This has saved me some effort and assured the birds their feed doesnt run dry. which is super frustrating for the birds based on my keen observations.
The quality seems good. I mean its plastic. What i do like is the simplicity. I’m over the fancy attempts at recreating flowers for the sake of appearances alone. The birds don’t care one way or the other.
Those rubber flower petals, plastics leaves, small parts. all just more stuff to clean and hope you don’t break in the process. This bottle with the intended base is four parts. A hook, bottle, base with lid.
That’s it. Simple, easy to clean, holds a lot o nectar. Just what i was looking for.
I have owned seven of these in the past. eventually the clear plastic jugs get brittle and break. However, the red feeders last forever and ever and ever. Anyway finding these on ebay was a live saver.
We have a plethora of hummers this year and my quart sized feeders were empty at the close of every day, With these jugs I can go for two days without filling. So now I have two gallons and five quarts to keep filled.
If you broke your Best-1 32 oz. glass bottle, never fear. This plastic bottle fits the red Best-1 base. And it’s plastic, so – you know what that means – no more glass in the sink when you wash out your hummingbird feeder and it slips out of your hands.
This feeder will attract hummingbirds to your yard and keep them coming back again and again. 16 Ounce Capacity & 4 Feeding Stations – Holding up to 16 ounces of nectar, this hummingbird feeder features a transparent glass bottle with a pinched waist and a wide mouth for easy filling and cleaning.
It’s bright-red plastic top and base are visually appealing while catching the attention of hummingbirds. The feeder’s design also includes four feeding stations, each with a resting perch and a built-in bright-yellow, flower-shaped bee guard to protect the nectar supply.
The feeder also comes with a built-in ant moat on the top of the feeder (simply fill the moat with water to keep the ants away).
Two piece plastic bottom is difficult to get seated, spilling nectar everywhere. Previous version had smaller fill hole, but a small funnel makes filling easy. Design of feeder flowers makes it impossible for birds to use perches.
Same feeder, previous series, empties twice as fast as birds can perch. Twice as many birds come to feeder they can perch on. I have several Perky feeders thatc work great!.
Wide mouth design for easier filling and cleaning. Base disassembles for cleaning to reduce or eliminate spillage. Built-in ant moats on top. Beautiful glass bottle and basin design is unique to this feeder to catch the consumer’s eye.
This is a great feeder. Hummingbirds started using it within 5 minutes of hanging! Wide mouth for easy cleaning. Deep rim on base for top to seat securely & no drips. White flowers do not attract the bees, and no bees get into the feeder.
I have mason bees, so I checked daily for the past two weeks, no bees. The base is clear and makes it easy to know when to clean & refill. Has an ant moat – I live where it is hot & windy, so moat could be deeper.
Remedied by hanging on a copper hook. The hanger fell off every time I filled it, easy fix, but should be already secure. So far it is the Hummingbirds 2nd favorite feeder. 1st being their Amethyst jewel Hummingbird feeder w/glass bottle.
Overall I like the feeder. It has not leaked so far. I’ve tried those with the gaskets and found the gasket doesn’t last long and it became a source for mold. The birds seem to like it a lot. My only negative point is the ports are.
a little too large. I’m getting quite a number of flying insects going thru the port and I find them floating in the nectar. Rarely have I found insects in my other feeders. Overall, I would buy this feeder again.
I thought it was cute. I purchased a true living outdoors mini hummingbird feeder for $2 at the Dollar General. It is six inches long and two inches wide. I added half a tablespoon of sugar and some warm water, shook and hung in my mimosa tree.
Hummingbirds are potent reminders to stop and smell the flowers, and that the greatest gifts in life are usually the ones freely given to us by nature. Smiles.
Good little hummingbird feeders. The red did fade slightly after being in the sun a while. All the pieces come apart for cleaning. I use an old toothbrush for that. I got these because I was getting so many hummingbirds at the one feeder that I had that they were chasing each other off “fighting” over it.
Now I can happily feed a lot more birds at once! :).
We received a gift of an expensive feeder for hummingbird. I set it up but hummingbirds never came to drink sweet syrup. Then I bought this red plastic hummingbird feeder. It looks beautiful & costs only 5.
25 dollars. With in 5 minutes 2 hummingbirds came & started devouring sweet syrup. My wife & I sit in our backyard sipping lemonade & we never get tired of watching hummingbirds. Thank you ” exclusivesportsnovelties “.
This is a good product, but we have learned that you can’t fill it all the way to the top, or bees will drink from it. They can also climb in, but they can’t get out. So far the best feeder we have found.
First Natures 16 oz. Hummingbird Flower Feeders red base with attractive yellow flowers really draws the birds and the yellow flowers discourage bees and wasps from entering the feeder. The perch provides the perfect position for birds to comfortably feed at any of the ten ports.
The wide-mouth fluted reservoir is easy to fill and easy to clean. The patented two-part base twists apart for thorough cleaning. All parts may be washed in warm soapy water. (Do not put any parts of this feeder in a dishwasher.
If you’re looking for the best hummingbird feeder, then look no further than this one. I’m new to feeding hummingbirds this year and decided to purchase a dollar tree one I had seen in store to just try out.
I was already feeding wild birds outside with bird seed in the feeders and decided to take on feeding hummingbirds as well. They did like the dollar tree one, however the dollar tree one was also very cheaply made and not as sturdy except the metal hook attached at the top.
The hummingbirds didn’t stay long because the dollar tree one also didn’t have a little perch or bar to sit on and eat calmly. As I had observed them, I did some research and came across the First Nature (made in the USA) hummingbird feeder that had the perfect round perch for them to relax on while feeding.
The dollar tree one was a 16 oz. feeder (same ounces as the first nature model), but the First Nature feeder was hands down the best one. Now I have more hummingbirds that visit the feeder very often in the day.
I noticed the best times they come are sunrise/ morning and later on in the day. I’m super happy with my purchase and the hummingbirds thank you as well. First nature also makes a 32 oz feeder that’s larger and just as efficient as well.
Thanks again! I hope this helps anyone looking at reviews as I did the same thing. (ps. The top seems a tiny bit unstable, but as long as you put a metal hook and even glue the top or tape it, either way the hummingbirds don’t notice it and love the feeder anyway).
Don’t forget to clean it really well every 3-4 days if it’s sunny and/ or really hot outside and every 5-7 if chilly and/ or normal temperature outside. Changing their feeders sugar water ensures them to be healthy as well (please don’t use any red dye or red sugar water).
Only use pure cane sugar-1 part (4 oz of pure cane sugar) and 4 parts purified spring water/ or cooled down after being boiled water (16 oz of water). Good luck everyone!.
We have been using First Nature Hummingbird feeders for a few years now. We have beehives nearby and our old feeders could not keep the thirsty bees from actually getting inside the feeders. The first Nature feeders are bee resistant and they have a little water trough on top that is a great barrier to keep the ants and other insects off & out your feeders.
They are a snap to keep clean, everything about the feeder is accessable for cleaning and maintaining the feeders. They are completely compatible with the 32oz model the 3090, so we can interchange parts if needed.
We have 5 #3090’s and now 2 #3091’s as ND are probably going to get a few more #3091’s, their lighter weight are ideal for window hangers. The hummingbirds seem very happy with our purchase as the photos will show.
Attractive features make First Nature Hummingbird Feeders easy to use, clean and provide effective pest deterrents. The perch provides the perfect position for birds to comfortably feed at any of the ten ports.
The wide-mouth reservoir is easy to fill and easy to clean. The patented two-part base twists apart for thorough cleaning. All parts may be washed in warm soapy water.
These used to be – and may still be – nice, easy-to-clean hummingbird feeders that can handle a bit of rocking in the wind without dumping out the nectar. It doesn’t take a lot of pressure to crack the clear plastic, though, so be careful with that.
If you get the ones with the regular smooth rounded/oval holes in the center of each flower port, they’re good feeders. I’ve had a couple of those, and would get another. The problem is that some of them have 2 narrow slits where each port should be instead of the single hole in the center of a raised “flower”.
The rounded holes are large enough for a hummingbird’s beak to reach the nectar in the reservoir; the narrow slits are not. The rumored intent for the narrow slits is to keep out insects. The problem is that if they’re so narrow that insects can’t get into the nectar in the reservoir, then neither can a hummingbird’s beak.
I wound up with one having the narrow slits, regardless of the fact that the image of the feeder shows the style with the rounded holes. I used the leather punch from my Swiss army knife to make one of each pair of the slits into a sufficiently-sized hole, but it takes a fair amount of work to use another tool or knife blade to try smoothing the ragged holes.
You don’t want to leave the plastic chips to get accidentally ingested/swallowed, and you don’t want to leave the holes ragged if they might catch on the beak. If you’re not in the store picking out the style that will actually work (raised flower ports with a rounded hole in the center), and you don’t have a great tool for enlarging and smoothing holes where the pair of too-narrow slits are, then save yourself the effort and frustration and order a different feeder.
I bought these because my hummingbird population explodes over migration times and I needed larger feeders. I have 6 of the 16 oz feeder from First Nature; 4 of these larger ones. This feeder from First Nature is the best I have found – both sizes.
The birds go to them right away – a few seconds of, “What is this new thing hanging up in my feeding space???” and then they dive for it. Both sizes. Due to winds I have had a couple of “falls” – survived them with no damage.
They stay relatively cool when the temp outside is triple digits which means the hummers can still get their food without it being “cooked”. VERY easy to clean – which I do every time I fill the feeders (max every 2 days if the weather is cool – every day otherwise – more often if the “kids” flood in for feeding).
I just really like them – they are easy to use, easy to clean, durable. I highly recommend. So far I have 10 of them between the 16 oz and 32 oz. The hummers USE these feeders, they are easy to care for and this is what works for me.
The feeding ports are much too big on this feeder. They are oval shaped. Perfect for the bees who, once they discovered it, took it over. Though they tried, the hummers could no longer get near it. Hummingbirds are larger and faster, but they don’t have stingers.
A bee sting could potentially kill a hummer as its body couldn’t handle the toxicity of the sting. I highly recommend the 3091 First Nature feeder. The feeding ports are much smaller, just the right dimension for the hummer’s beak, too small for the bees.
The bees are now gone, feeding on other plants in my yard and harmony has been restored. But I will say that it was fascinating to watch the competition between the 2 species. A valuable lesson learned.
Featuring a vintage-look red glass bottle and burnt penny base, the Hummingbird Elixir feeder will be a beautiful addition to any garden or yard. The 13 oz wide mouth bottle is easy to fill and clean and the 5 integrated perches will attract hummingbirds all season long.
13 Oz Wide opening for easy filling. Easy clean with wide mouth bottle and base that easily disassembles. Glass bottle with burnt penny finish on metal base and hanger. Bottle is dishwasher safe. Hand wash metal parts with warm soapy water and thoroughly rinse before refilling with nectar.
Uses:For best results, use More Bird Premium Nectar, which simulates natural nectar found in flowers.
Probably the best humming bird feeder on the market. The birds really love it. Since adding these to our house the number of birds feeding has probably doubled or even tripled. It is amazing how much they love this feeder.
This is absolutely gorgeous, but the metal base corrodes. When I first put up I had several hummingbirds. Few days later no more birds. I took down to clean and change water and since the metal base has contact with the water it had started to rust and turn the water nasty.
I sanded down the rusty metal and spray painted with appliance paint but hummingbirds won’t return. Don’t buy anything with metal, the plastic ones work better.
We ordered this feeder because it looks very much like one we have been using for years and like very much. And we ordered two to increase the hummingbird population in our yard. Unfortunately, we found both units were defective in manufacturing.
Specifically, the plastic hangers that screw into the base units were both bent at the section of the threading, which caused the feeders to hang so aslant that the liquid inside could not evenly cover the bottom of the feeders.
In fact, they hung so aslant that fully one half of the feeder bottom had no liquid. Think of holding a glass or bowl at enough of an angle so that any liquid inside would only cover one half of the bottom.
As you can imagine, this slanting also caused the feeders to look ridiculous. I have also found out in an online chat with Walmart Customer Service that the order was actually handled by one of their Marketplace vendors, and I was told to expect a response from bonhomedecor.
Instead I received an email from Home_Innovations_1, with whom I am arguing to get return instructions and a full refund. Now I see below that I’m being asked to “rate your experience with Sparkles Gift.
The feeder was received after 5 days with the package intact. Upon opening the cardboard the feeder was attached with ties and the hanger, which screws into the feeder holding the unit together and allows it to be hung, was missing.
The ties were attached to the cardboard but no hanger, rendering the item useless. I called and chatted with Walmart. com. The purchase was made through a third party “Home Innovations”. I agreed to have them email me within 24-48 hrs.
They did email me and unfortunately another week has passed and I still have no resolution. I have emailed them pictures of the defective(?) Feeder, packing slip and the label on the box. This is the first, and hopefully the last time, I have had an issue with Walmart.
com. It would seem to me that a quality control problem exists. Although Home Innovations may not be the manufacturer of this product, they are the reseller and should know if items they are selling are complete or not.
Certainly i would think the person placing the item in the box would notice 2 empty ties on a disc feeder cardboard. The cardboard clearly indicates a hanger. I’m not happy and neither are my hummingbirds.
I’ve had lots of hummingbirds this year and in August, I was inundated with hundreds of honeybees around my many feeders! Not only could hummingbirds not eat, but my back porch became unsafe to be in, due to the number of bees.
I didn’t want to hurt the bees; I wanted them to leave. After doing some online research, I concluded a feeder not accessible by insects. Boy, are the expensive!!! Thank goodness Walmart was there with some affordable bee-proof feeders.
These feeders were easily half what most other sites are selling them for. The feeders are well-constructed and their perches are sturdy. They are easy to clean and easy to fill. It took a minute for the hummingbirds to start using them, but they use them exclusively now and I was able to remove the last upright feeder.
Most important, the hundreds of bees are gone to another nectar-gathering source, my little hummy visitors no longer have to fight bees for food and I am able to sit on my back porch without getting stung.
I am so glad Walmart offered these feeders online and for such a reasonable price. I will use them for many years!.
This beautiful feeder was designed by a professional zookeeper at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona, with 22 years of experience caring for hummingbirds. It features a solid copper cup, with a graceful curved perch and hanger to add to the visual appeal.
The feeder includes two 1 oz. , BPA-free, dishwasher-safe plastic jars with lids so it’s easy to refill. Color: One Color.
Its a great feeder if you don’t have a ton of hummingbirds because the capacity isn’t much. But it is solid copper, looks great, and will look even better with age. It is easy to use, easy to fill, and easy to find a spot to use.
I also like that when its not hummingbird season I can still use the copper dish to feed other things.
We have two of these little feeders — and are loving them as alternatives to the plastic feeders one typically sees. Super easy to refill and to clean, just pop one container out, and put a different one in.
I’d recommend contacting Gardners directly for additional jars, so that one can make a larger batch of refills to set in the fridge at one time.

We’ve been feeding our Hummers for a few years now, and I have tried several feeders over the years. But none of them compare to these little gems. They are perfect for our back yard’s purpose. We always keep several of them hanging on a shepherd’s pole out in the back yard.
They have small holes just large enough for the Hummer’s little beaks to fit into and nothing else. One year we had a bee problem and another year an ant problem, but regardless of whatever Mother Nature tries to throw at us, we are glad we have these feeders from Best 1, because they are the only ones that have holes small enough so outside invaders can’t make it into the containers and get trapped.
There are some insects, like the juvenile insects, we have no control over. They are going to be small enough to make their ways into the containers regardless. The only inconvenience I found is after it rains, the reservoir always fills up with rainwater and allows the sugar water to seep out into the open where it eventually attracts the unwanted insects.
We are always fascinated by these little creatures, how they hover and land on the feeders to feed. It’s always a welcomed sight to see them coming back year after year from a long and hard winter. Nature is so wonderful!!!.
I purchased this feeder to replace the other common feeder with the 4 blossom like stems, as I was getting a lot of ants and wasps on the feeder. The birds themselves weren’t quite sure what to make of it at first, but they hearkened to hunger and began feeding.
I’ve had this feeder in place for 8 days have not had any ants, even though this feeder does not have an ant moat. The reason is because it doesn’t leak! I have an occasional wasp checking it out once in a while, but they soon realize they can’t get to the nectar.
It’s a great design, plain and simple. I highly recommend this feeder and it will be replacing all my other feeders next season.
I was replacing a feeder that I was using for a few years and had been very successful for drawing Hummingbirds. I shopped, read reviews, and chose this one because of all the positives. It is the right size (8 oz.
) for me because I clean and change out the nectar at minimum every three days so it prevents a lot of waste. It also has a perch that I find virtually all the birds use and it seems to encourage them to stay longer.
Upon receipt, I replaced the old feeder with this one and, at first, the birds seemed a little reluctant at first but that lasted a short while and they have taken to it in a big way – constant traffic all day long.
It seems well made and sturdy and does not attract bees. It is also very easy to clean. It takes minutes to take down, disassemble, clean, fill with fresh nectar and re-hang. I would highly recommend though, that a few drops of epoxy glue be put around the top of the band that holds the hanger to the bottle.
It has only one spot of glue holding it in place and if it gives way, the bottle will drop out. Other than the adhesive situation, I would highly recommend this feeder. It does what it is supposed to do.
It features a glass bottle and colorful red top and base with seven feeding stations. The large 30-ounce capacity provides enough nectar to keep your resident hummingbirds full, happy and coming back for more.
This feeder is great in as much as there is no metal to produce rust like a lot of other feeders. It is easy to fill once you find out the top is not the place to remove and the bottom on mine almost required an act of God to remove the first time.
After that it is easy. The worst part of this feeder is the stupid S hook that you are supposed to use to suspend this feeder from the rafters or whatever you use to suspend it. You will need to get busy and either rebend the S hook so it stays connected to the top or find a new piece of wire to make a hook that stays in place while you try to hang the feeder from something up high enough to make the humming birds comfortable.
It’s not really serious and the average person can probably take care of this problem. I just think that with a product this good, the maker should rethink the mount. It is the best feeder I have tried so far.
When I purchased our first Diamond Feeder some years ago, I did exhaustive research looking for a BPA free feeder, but was unable to find one. I also noted after using that one, that the ports were rough and collected what I hoped was debris or mold.
I am extremely pleased that More Birds now produces the Diamond Feeder in BPA free plastic, and the new silicone ports are soft for the tiny birds beaks and tongue! I only wish that More Birds had the 7 ports of older model, rather than 5, but the wrap around perch is a good improvement.
I do wish a replacement glass container was offered, if even at a premium. This is still, and more so now, the best hummingbird feeder out there—thank you, More Birds!.
I bought this hummingbird feeder for two of my Grandchildren. They are ages four and two years, the perfect ages to be awed by the little winged wonders. The feeder fell well within my budget and yet shows like a feeder of a much higher price.
Most importantly for the health of the hummers, the base comes apart for easy and thorough cleaning and the nectar reservoir is glass, permitting easy washing with hot soapy water and equally easy rinsing.
An additional bonus is the built in moat on the top that discourages ants and ‘wigs from invading. On a future iteration, the designers might wish to consider a deeper moat. The children and Grandchildren love it and boy does it get great results, they had so many hummers visiting their neighbours were jealous.
More birding fun for the young in the land of the red maple leaf.
It’s easy to keep an eye on hummingbirds with the this window bowl feeder. It lets you watch through the window as the hummingbirds feed just outside. The Jewel Box Window Hummingbird Feeder has a raised perch for the birds to rest on, holds 8oz.
of nectar, and has three feeding ports so the hungry hummingbirds can feed comfortably. Plus it comes with an ant moat to allow your hummingbirds to eat in peace. The flexible design and small footprint (only 8″x6″) allows you to mount this plastic feeder to a window using the included suction cups, or to mount the hummingbird feeder on your deck.
I love the design, easy to install and clean. It attracted hummingbirds right away but the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because my hummingbirds seemed to have a problem reaching the sugar water.
They would perch or hover, put their (noses?) into the feeding holes but they weren’t long enough to reach the liquid. I filled the liquid to the holes where they eat but then it seeped out of the seam where the tray connects to the lid and it just leaked into the moat.
I’m not quite sure how to fix the issue and I don’t see any other reviews that had the same problem. All and all I love the product and I would recommend it, but I wish I knew how to fix that issue. I took it down and it’s currently not being used :(.
Our exclusive 3 wide opening and easily removable parts make cleaning truly easy andndash and all parts are Dishwasher Safe! Leak Free gaskets are included on all three flower feeding ports and glass lid to ensure no nectar is wasted and to prevent any mess.
A decorative hanging basket with built-in hummingbird perches allows hummingbirds to feed more comfortably, encouraging longer feeding time and increased hummingbird viewing! The solar-powered LED light allows this beautiful feeder to not only serve a function to feed the hummingbirds, but also as a unique decorative piece for your landscape at night.
This feeder is crafted from thick, durable hand-blown artisan glass to create a beautiful vibrant feeder that will last. Unlike painted patterns, colored glass will not fade over time – enjoy your feeder for years to come! Durable die-cast aluminum flower feeding ports are powder coated with UV stabilized vibrant colors.
Decorative metal basket is powder coated to prevent rust and discoloration. One of the more tedious aspects of feeding hummingbirds is that the nectar can often get cloudy and form mold quickly in the heat.
All components on this feeder easily remove and are Dishwasher Safe Note LED unit is not dishwasher safe to ensure you can easily maintain a clean feeder without the use of any special cleaning tools.
Overall I like this product for it’s design, ease of refilling and no leakage. I do find if you fill it up above the flower ports then you have to be careful that it is straight and does not lean since the nectar can seep thru the flower ports a little although I only fill it up to the flower ports since I’m changing it every 3 days now.
Also, I think when it gets to about half way filled it becomes harder for some hummingbirds with shorter beaks to get to the nectar. The only negative I have is some websites display this product in the red crackle glass but when you receive it you’ll find it’s always the red solid glass it comes in.
I have since found out the manufacturer no longer makes this product MHF4 in a red crackle glass color but only the solid red now so some pictures of this product from websites or outdated with still showing it in red crackle glass.
The birds like it and their numbers have increased in coming to feed from it since I’ve had it about a month now.
I purchased this feeder 3 years ago, and both I and the local hummingbirds still love it. I’m completely flummoxed by the reviewers who claim that this feeder needs to be full in order for hummingbirds to reach the nectar.
Like the dish-shaped window feeders, hummingbirds are able to extend their beaks & their tongues into the feeder to drink. They also commonly use the feeder as a perch, and some of them will sit on it for 5 or 10 minutes, sipping occasionally and watching the neighbourhood.
Yes, the scent of the nectar will attract nectar-loving insects, but so does my other hummingbird feeder. I’ve never had a problem with insects getting into this one, as some reviewers have had. The automatic solar-light is still working on mine after 3 years of use – just make sure you switch the thing on, if you want to use it! All in all, I highly recommend this feeder.
It’s a real eye-catcher, and my local hummers love it.
Bring hummingbirds right to your window. The Droll Yankees Hummer 3 Window Hummingbird Feeder holds 6 oz of nectar and features two ports with two complete sets of guard tips. Nectar guards virtually eliminate insect contamination of the nectar while still allowing hummingbirds to feed.
The cap of this window bird feeder is bright red to attract hummingbirds and has a nectar recipe engraved on it. The red filler cap has a 0. 5 inch hole in it that can be aligned with the hole in the clear cleaning cover beneath it for quick and easy refills.
Unscrew both caps on this Droll Yankees hummingbird feeder with 2 ports for easy cleaning. Use the included port brush carefully to clean the ports and nectar guards. The feeder cover and basin are made of UV-stabilized polycarbonate.
This feeder is perfect for luring hummingbirds to your windows for an up-close look. Without the bottle in the way, you get a much better view. Easy to clean and remove for cleaning yet the suction cups stay put even in cold or hot weather.
It has gotten pricier lately but the hummingbirds are worth it and you won’t be disappointed.
You never can go wrong with any product of Droll Yankee, especially with their wonderful lifetime guarantee! I had brought one of these feeders to work, and placed it on the outside of my office window.
This beautiful feeder and the mesmerizing hummers it attracts has made my office one of the most popular places in the building!.
I’ve been feeding Hummers for years. It’s a commitment to do it right and keep the feeders clean and the birds healthy. I’ve found that this feeder (with a slight modification that can be found on the internet) is the easiest to clean and doesn’t drip like the ones with a single feeder tube that hangs down.
Add 1 cup sugar to 4 cups clean water in a clean plastic jug, shake to dissolve, and fill your (washed and triple rinsed) Best-1 Feeder. Enjoy watching the birds! It is very important to wash well with a mild dishwashing soap and rinse well ensure the feeder doesn’t develop mold.
I don’t boil the sugar water. I use fresh tap water, and keep the container clean. The birds seem to love sitting around this little feeder. Wash at least weekly.
There are no metal parts; therefore, it will not rust. I have purchased other feeders that may look better, but they did not last. I have also had the 32 oz. version of this feeder for years and it keeps going and going.
Replacement parts are easy to find if they are ever needed. You will need a bottle brush for cleaning; otherwise, it is very easy to clean. I also have no problems attracting birds to this feeder.
One conclusion of using hummingbird feeders to keep bees away is that it is an effective method to deter bees from coming into close proximity to humans. By having a feeder filled with sugar water, hummingbirds are attracted to the feeder and will hover around it, keeping bees away from the area.
