20 Best Human Shampoo For Dogs (2023 Updated)

I am a 130 lb Landseer Newfoundland with all white on my chest and belly, lots of white on my legs and paws. My furnishings are all white on my front legs and the rest of me is part black and part white.

It’s been a struggle since I was 8 weeks old to get my white hair white without stripping my black coat. I’m embarrassed to mention that even though I’m a girl, I LOVE all kinds of mud. Dirt and I are very best friends as well.

I never miss a chance to get dirty. That shows everyone how much fun I have and how much fun I am. You need to know this about me to appreciate how very well this shampoo works. My mom had been brushing and spot cleaning me daily because we ran out of our favorite shampoo which smelled so so good.

Just like a field of lavender I’m sure would be delightful to run through and roll in. That shampoo has been out of stock everywhere. Finally a decision was made to try this. I had my first bath in over 6 weeks yesterday.

Folks, let me tell you, my whites have never been whiter. EVER. Mom didn’t even have to use her favorite dishwashing liquid to brighten up my dinghy parts. She has had to do that even when she bathes me every two weeks.

I’ve been weeks without a bath and didn’t need anything other than this shampoo. It’s AMAZING. My bath didn’t even take any longer than usual either. Which surprised me AND mom. I get really,really greasy under my ears and just behind them.

I blame that on all the people who just love to pet me. I’m not complaining though! This shampoo even got all that grease out! Mom was concerned that even though I was so clean, I’d be staticy and have a stripped coat and dry, itchy skin.

That’s happened to me before and it is MISERABLE. That isn’t the case. I’m as soft as all those bunnies look that I love to chase. Lastly, I combed out so well. The shampoo got all the way down to my pretty pink skin and my undercoat combed out easily.

That is a rarity. Folks, you wouldn’t believe how much dirt I was walking around with. There was a whole garden in me! I LOVE this shampoo. It didn’t smell like pomegranates or my favorite lavender. Mom says it smells like something she called grape gum balls she loved when she was 11:years old.

That was over 50:years ago, I was told. She isn’t too keen on the smell now, but it didn’t last long. I’m VERY clean, very soft and so happy I had my bath! You will like this shampoo if you have friends like me who LOVE all things dirt and mud.

Try it and see. My mom is pretty hard to please when it comes to me and my sisters, also Newfoundland’s. Except for the smell, this is her favorite shampoo. And she says the smell isn’t what does the cleaning so that’s okay with her.

This product smells amazing. It has a sweet smell that last at least a couple of days. A little goes a long way, so dont spray too many times. I usually spray it twice about 10-12 away from my puppys coat.

I make sure I block his face with my hand when I spray it on. I would recommend. I also do one sprit on his bandana when he wears one.

The Espree anti-shed coat spray of former days had a refreshing, clean scent that wasn’t overbearing or overly artificial. Sadly, I believe it’s been discontinued—but I was hoping for a similar experience with this spray.

Not sure what “rainforest aloe” is supposed to emulate, but this spray doesn’t quite deliver. While the scent is not overwhelming, it isn’t especially pleasant either, and leans toward the artificial.

The bottle size is small for the cost as well.

My two Yorkies and I have become big fans of Bio-Groom, as their products seem to come highly recommended by breeders, groomers, and show exhibitors alike. This particular Protein Lanolin shampoo has worked WONDERS in bringing out the shine, softness, and smoothness in BOTH of my dogs–even though one has a silky coat and the other an unruly cotton coat.

Just the right amount of lather, and it rinses quickly, easily, and completely. Pairs well with Biogroom’s Silk Creme Rinse afterward. The light, somewhat powdery scent is pleasant, but not overwhelming, and it lingers 3-4 days on my pups.

I’ve tried more than a dozen shampoos over the years, and this one has become my go-to for both dogs. Thanks, Chewy, for carrying this line!.

This product has outstanding odor control and I highly recommend it for dogs that are prone to that extremely difficult hard to remove odor. In comparison to their silk rents this product is not as good for conditioning I feel like it leaves a strange texture almost gritty to any coat but if you dilute it appropriately this almost illuminates the issue.

This is definitely not a product you want to leave in as it will develop a strange texture to the hair. I’ve used it multiple times on really dirty dogs and had good success.

We had been buying this from our local pet store for over 3 years as I need to smell things first. They stopped selling it about 6 months ago and finally Chewy has it. We had been complaning about how all the subsitiues we bought were awful.

We love this stuff. Our springer gets dirty and stinky quickly and this truly eliminates whatever he rolls in. Don’t hesitate buy it!!!.

My dog suddenly developed environmental allergies this fall, and it has been a non-stop battle with constant itching and flaky skin since. Our vet recommended we give him medicated baths 2 times a week, but those only provided temporary relief; the other days, he was right back to itching.

It got so bad that he gave himself bald spots down his side and on his chest, and his hair overall was just drier and thinner. He’s always had thick, shiny hair, so the change was quite drastic. Even Benadryl did nothing for his itching.

I’ve tried just about everything at this point, and we finally have his itching under control! In addition to his twice weekly medicated baths, I now use this spray after his baths and in between baths, and it has helped return so much moisture and life back to his coat and skin.

I really make sure to thoroughly spray him all over, rub the spray throughout his coat, and then go through his coat with a slicker brush to make sure it’s distributed. If I apply it to his dry coat, it is a little bit greasy feeling, but not to the point where it transfers onto furniture or feels gross to touch.

Overall, I’ve seen a drastic decrease in itching, and his coat and skin feel much better. All that said, I am doing other things which may also be helping. As I said, he gets medicated baths twice a week, and I also supplement his food with fish oil and Zesty Paws Aller-Immune bites.

I think these products have all been working in conjunction to really help stop this awful flare up.

My dogs and I live in the desert which means dry fur year round. I wanted a leave-in conditioner that would help keep their skin and coats healthy plus dandruff and static free. THis product does seem to condition their coats, we’ve had less dryness and almost no static, but they are STICKY for the first 24 hours after I put it on.

Then the stickiness gets on my hands (and the sofa!) when I pet them. Maybe it’s because my dogs all have short double coats, but it’s just unpleasant to cuddle the girls until it soaks in (or rubs off?).

The smell is nice, but not overpowering, my super allergic dogs don’t seem to itch with this and like I said, their coats are better. If only they weren’t sticky after use. I won’t be purchasing this again.

I have a pitbull and she loves to lick her paws to the point she makes them raw. I spray this on her paws and she stops right away, hopefully this will break her nasty habit and help her itchy paws in the long run.

She had a spot on her inner back leg about the size of a quarter which was raw and scabbing. Ater the second day of usage the scabbing was going away and there was no redness. I wish I had before and after photos.

I worked a pet store as my first job and would recommend bitter apple seeing that this didn’t exist but now I’m an advocate of this stuff! You get more in the bottle and you don’t pay as much, it is more natural and it shows results! I will absolutely make sure to recommend this to anyone who’s dog has skin allergies (also if your dog food contains chicken, it is a growing allergy and could be linked to their skin allergies! Maybe switch the food to higher grade and chicken free! Make sure there’s no trace of chicken in the ingredients).

This is a real tearless shampoo and if your doggo has allergies like mine does and gets sticky around his tear ducts, this is really gentle and keeps the area clean. Because of his Dameranian hybrid breed, he has sensitive skin too, but the shampoo seems to work fine.

A little of the clear, tear-free shampoo covered his body. I worked it around his eyes and muzzle, where he had a lot of fur, and he didn’t seem to mind. This shampoo is safe for delicate paw pads, so I worked it into those areas too, and he didn’t seem to respond to it any differently.

The scent was fresh and pleasant without being overwhelming. He didn’t mind the scent of the shampoo and, in fact, seemed to enjoy sneaking various sniffs of the shampoo bottle as my husband and I washed him.

John Paul pet oatmeal shampoo for sensitive skin formula for dogs and cats it moisturizes the dry skin and contains pure oatmeal, aloe vera gel and sweet almond oil. I was very impressed how well it moisturizes.

I was offered the opportunity to try out John Paul’s pet oatmeal shampoo which is perfect for my Shih Tzu at 7 pounds and has dry skin, for free for my honest opinion. It arrived quickly well packaged.

It has a very sweet oatmeal almond smell which is very pleasant it is clearish yellow in color number five. It does not lather up like some shampoos, but it does go on easily and rinses off very well.

He also dried off faster than his usual shampoo. I used the shampoo on my Shih Tzu it relieved any frizzy, Course hair. It seems to be heavy on his hair, as for the most arising, also I would like to add it easily allowed me to brush out knots while his hair was wet, super fabulous.

The John Paul pet oatmeal shampoo for sensitive skin formula for dogs and cats left his hair shiny and fluffy very soft with a pleasant smell. since it says tested on humans first, I gave it a go and washed my hair which is very thin and light and sometimes frizzy it was very heavy on my hair it relieved all frizziness but at the same time my scalp looking too oily, so from what I gather if I would just use it on the bottom half of my dry frizzy hair it would work perfect to relieve that issue.

I’d definitely recommend the John Paul Pet oatmeal shampoo my dog loved it, With no irritation and Super conditioned with just the shampoo very clean, shiny hair and looking beautiful.

I have tried many dog shampoo’s due to my two girls being itchy at times so I am a skeptic for new products. Oatmeal is what I buy as it is soothing to the coat and does seem to help with itching, I was happy to find a new oatmeal shampoo to try.

I noticed that my girl did not shy away and she did have a few red patches but this shampoo did not sting or bother them or her. I found it to lather pretty good not overly bubbly but just enough to feel effective in cleaning her coat.

JP Pet Shampoo is specially formulated to moisturize dry flaky, sensitive skin and it does that plus it contains Aloe Vera gel and sweet almond oil. The scent is very mild and not over powering I actually wish it had a little more almond scent to it but I was very impressed with how my dog did not have that wet dog smell after her bath.

After she was dry I kept smelling her fur and it smelled clean and neutral no doggy smell at all but a pleasant slight almond scent. My favorite thing is she dove under the covers and slept good all night after her bath with no scratching at least for the first night and I kept rubbing her fur it was very soft, silky and smooth I absolutely loved the feel of her fur after using this shampoo.

This is day two and she still has that wonderful soft, silky fur but she is back to itching some. Having dealt with allergies this l last year with my girl, shampoo’s can only do so much I am recommending this one because of what it does do and not as a cure but as a great soothing shampoo that does seem to help and I love that wonderful silky, soft fur she has after using this shampoo.

Natural Dog Company never ceases to amaze me with amazing products. My girl has been dealing with itchy skin for 2 years and even prescription shampoo didn’t help. When I saw the Itchy Dog Shampoo I had to try it since we absolutely can’t live without the Natural Dogs Paw Soother, Wrinkle Balm, Snout and Skin Soother and it has resolved my girls itchy skin problem while making her coat silky soft.

We are so excited to see NDC on Chewy! We have been using NDC products since Zeus was a puppy. He has always had crazy allergies, both food and seasonal, and not only can he tolerate NDC products, but he loves them! They have greatly improved his quality of life.

From the shampoo, all the way down to the nose, wrinkle and paw balms. He loves to be pampered with NDC and literally snores through his pampering sessions. And now, we have puppy #2!.

I was a little skeptical about the price for this size bottle until after I washed my guy. It took much less shampoo and lathered up so much more than my usual brand. He came out so soft, smooth, and smelling awesome.

He also didn’t immediately go scrub his belly on the door rug and hasn’t done so since I started using the kit. Pretty impressive shampoo. I see this bottle lasting twice as long as my other brand making it a worthwhile purchase.

We used this on our French bulldog after he went swimming in an algae filled canal. We were advised in the shop that this would be better for sensitive skin, and would have a less strong smell. It lathered well, smelled nice and most importantly it got all the muck off him and left him smelling lovely and fresh.

We also noticed that he was licking his paws a lot less. Personally I liked that it was too strongly scented, I do agree that the lid for the shampoo is a poor fit, but other than that I think it’s a really good product.

The shampoo conditioner and fragrance all smell really nice. The shampoo and conditioner have a thick luxurious feel to them. It made Bo’s white bits very clean, i thought it gave a deep cleaning element.

I don’t think they are natural although couldn’t see SLS in the ingredients. They are a good product.

I decided to splash out and buy the most expensive shampoo on the shelf. What a let down! Hardly any lather, very little smell of coconut and the poorly designed lid has already snapped off and I’ve had to transfer contents to another container.

Will be going back to my usual brand for less than half the price.

I have used this shampoo only once so my review may be updated at a later time from now I am neither impressed or completely dissatisfied with the product. I did notice it had a strange odor it reminded me of a hair perm.

The smell is not the same once the shampoo is rinsed out but I did notice my dog has a stronger smell of shampoo at bedtime than I personally like and I know without a doubt that all shampoo was rinsed out because I rinse for a very long time.

As for his brightness he is an English cream Labrador and his coat is nice but I do not notice a difference in the brightness. The shampoo itself was easy to lather and rinse not too thick or thin. Right now I am very undecided on whether I will buy again but maybe if my dog was a white white coat and not cream I would have seen a difference.

Used this for the first time today on a white miniature poodle. Senior dog but I have only had him a few weeks. It made his coat very soft and easy to brush. I would say the smell/perfume is medium in strength.

Not as subtle as what I use on my other dogs but its not a slap in the face either. He just smells freshly bathed. Didnt “whiten” him but he looks maybe a little brighter. Would buy again.

Don’t follow instructions with applying the shampoo generously. A little goes a long way. I used too much the first bath and don’t even think I rinsed it all out. I used less the second time (about the size of a quarter), and it was much easier to get it all out.

But I also tried the ivation portable shower and a wash cloth in the tub for the first time as well. it got her cleaner than using cups of water. Her fur was stiff for a week after the first bath, maybe because the shampoo wasn’t completely out? She’s still currently drying right now from her second bath, but looks softer than first bath.

She smells cleaner. shampoo is unscented, but she smells cleaner from actually being clean. She itches less. A lot of debris came off her in the tub. I’m happy with it.

I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but it has a very pleasant smell that is not overpowering. My husband has breathing problems and almost everything we use is scent free. I decided to take a chance on the Bio-Groom since it seemed to be exactly what we needed.

We had been using the generic oatmeal shampoo’s for the longest time. The smell would fade away within a day and my dogs hair would go back to feeling as if we hadnt bathed her for a good month or more.

I saw a video that had this conditioner and a professional groomer was using it for their dogs. I figured I may as well give it a try. I will NEVER use another brand again! Its been 2 weeks since my dog has gotten a bath and she STILL smells and feels, like she was bathed yesterday.

This is some of the best shampoo I have ever tried. Not specific to just the shampoo but healthy breeds for miniature schnauzer’s altogether. It did help with the whitening I can’t say that it was the absolute best but it did help.

Aside from that it leaves my pup’s coat extremely soft and extremely shiny. I get compliments on his fur regularly especially because miniature schnauzers are known to have thick wiry Coats. It feels AMAZING and smells good.

I honestly don’t write reviews very often so when I do I actually mean them. This shampoo really is something that keeps Pomeranians very white it’s not bad on his skin and I have tried quite a few. Dorian is kind of skittish and still a puppy so he has a lot of accidents and when he gets scared he pees on himself and then it can get stained in his fur.

Not a single other shampoo got the stains out in a first wash and this one did.

Okay, so this isn’t the best-smelling dog shampoo out there; it definitely smells medicated. That said, it IS medicated and it does work! My 10-ish year old Shih Tzu-esque rescue came to us a few months ago with some residual itchy, psoriatic patches that mostly resolved but then sprung up in other places.

I used natural oatmeal shampoo on him but when I saw this at Grove decided to give it a try. I noticed an improvement after one bath. This shampoo doesn’t lather much, but it leaves him clean; the medicinal scent when bathing goes away once rinsed.

I made sure to apply some shampoo directly to the trouble spots. No more scaly patches now. If you’ve got an itchy dog this might help you, too, just as it helped my Rufus.

My puppy Luke has the worst skin allergies you can fathom. On top of that he has an autoimmune condition named Pemphigus Vulgaris which in conjunction with the Allergies makes him get fungus and yeast on his body and fur- this shampoo is effective on getting rid of it and there after maintaining his coat smelling good.

My Yorkie is an older dog and he developed a skin condition that I was treating with Douxo shampoo. The Douxo helped and left his hair beautiful but it was shampoo every 5 days and antibiotic shots and all of that just kept it less than controlled.

I finally tried this on my own and BPO-3 knocked it right out 1st shampoo! My vet told me don’t use it more than once a week and don’t leave it on long. so I followed his advice. Now i shampoo alternately with the Douxo every 6 days and i can say that his skin is repaired and no sign of the scaly red spots I fought for over a year.

This smells wonderful & just like vanilla cake! A friend even commented unsolicitedly that she smelled delicious. It does the job but is not overpowering, and it lasts more than a day, which Ill take, since dogs still seem to go back to smelling like dogs after awhile, and stronger scents usually mean more chemicals.

I have the shampoo too and love that as well, its the same exact scent, though the scent only lasts a day or two. Thus this spritzer to freshen her up as needed. The only potential con: I cant tell if shes a little itchy since it? But she may be like that with all spritzers.

I bought this after reading the reviews. I bought online & picked up in store, so I did not smell it before purchase. I thought it smelled okay, I was expected something different. It didn’t seem to do anything to my dogs coat.

The All Natural Oatmeal shampoo is a great product. There is no need for a conditioner after using the shampoo. My poodle’s coat is soft and easily combed out after using. He doesn’t scratch as often after he is bathed and he smells so good.

I love the pump on the bottle also. Makes bathing time easier. The shampoo was such a success that I ordered another bottle for my dad’s little fur baby. It has helped her scratching also. Thank you for this shampoo!.

I found some originally at a store. It lasted 4 years, my dog is very small. went to buy more at that store and they stopped carrying it. So I went on line and bought two. One for me and one for my daughter’s two dogs.

We love it, the dogs smell wonderful and they stopped itching. They are light colored dogs and it seems to whiten up their white and soften. Just love this stuff.

Love that this dog shampoo scent is long lasting and really good in my pets fur he is a poodle mix terrier but kind of look like a maltese and his coat is fine and thin also fluffy with waves after using this his coat looks so beautiful and soft.

My dog is white withba hint of cream but he looks amazing and stays that ways for up to 3 weeks max smelling fresh.

First — this smells amazing. Eradicates all dog odor. My dog smells like rich people. Second — this makes his hair INSANELY silky and soft. He is so pettable and so cuddly and wonderful. I can’t keep my hands off of him.

This line of shampoos and conditioner is wonderful. Subtle fragrance but more importantly, very gentle and moisturizing. Especially great on long hair dogs like my Shih Tzu. His coat is very silky!

When my frenchie was a puppy, this was the “it” shampoo for us. Both of us loved the scent and it kept her skin and fur in great condition! The best part about this brand was that it kept her smelling nice all week! That’s hard to do with a puppy and even harder if you have a smooshy breed! Trust me.

I have two chihuahuas and one of them is extremely allergic and has very sensitive skin. I tried many shampoos looking for one that would be non-irritating and keep his sensitive skin moisturized to prevent his endless scratching of himself.

I’ve tried so many different shampoos. Finally, I decided to give it a try to 4-Legger’s Soothe shampoos just because based on ingredient list it sounded super mild and even moisturizing. I’ll be honest that I purchased Soothe shampoo but I did not purchase the foamer bottle.

Hmm. my experience wasn’t good without the foamer as basically the shampoo did not foam at all. So I ended up using to so of product and that wasn’t good. 4-Legger customer support was supper helpful and empathetic to someone like me who wasn’t used to using organic shampoos.

Since I got the foamer bottle it changed it all as now the shampoo foams very well, making it super easy and pleasant to wash my pups. And my sensitive, allergic pup seems to be scratching much, much less.

Thank you for creating such an awesome product and thank you Melissa for your superb customer support. And for all the first-timers who never used organic shampoos from 4-Legger. In my humble opinion, you actually need the foamer bottle to be able to wash your pup with ease.

Using the shampoo straight from the bottle isn’t the easiest way to wash your pup. Also besides the foamer bottle with Soothe shampoo in it being super easy to foam up my pups and wash them. also rinsing the shampoo is super easy.

It doesn’t leave any ‘film’ on my pups coat, it’s easy to rinse, their fur is soft and shiny, and since it’s fragrance-free product I love how my pups simply smell ‘clean’ and ‘natural’. I most importantly appreciate that my pups seem to be much less itchy.

I hope that with using Soothe shampoo on regular basis my pups will stop scratching themselves all together. There’s hope for sensitive, allergic, itchy pups! Thank you 4-Legger!.

I bought both the orange/hemp shampoo and this one. Out of the two I like the smell of this one and it doesn’t dry out my scotch collie’s coat like the orange one does. It leaves his coat bright and fluffy.

They both do lather as long as your dog is very wet. but require you to use more than the earthbath shampoo I was using before. I basically have to drizzle a stream of shampoo on both sides and down each leg to work up a good lather so I am going through it pretty fast.

I started out not using enough. That is my main issue with the shampoo is that it is pretty expensive and doesn’t go far if you have a long-haired, double-coated breed of dog. Pictures are of him still damp and then blown out.

My Bostie has been suffering with a rash on his belly for months. His diet is great, his coat is beautiful, but the rash persisted. I sent an email with a photo, and Melissa actually CALLED ME (talk about customer service!) and recommended this, along with the cooling shampoo.

Our mini goldendoodle Ravioli has those tight ‘wool’ curls which easily get matted. He also has sensitive skin that tends to flake, itch & get irritated with a lot of products. This is super gentle and nourishing for his skin, which we love.

It’s also not too thick so easy to pour into one hand while holding a wet, wriggly & unimpressed dog in the other! The smell is really good but very subtle, another plus because I’m not a fan of highly perfumed products or artificial scents.

We wash his paws with it every day + he’s had a couple of baths now, so far so good. We’ve used Buddy Wash for a long time but this is definitely our new favorite!.

Since poodles and poodle mixes have non-shedding “hair” coats, it’s different than other dogs and needs to be cared for differently. I purchased this for my ShiPoo, a Shitzu poodle mix whose look and coat is curly like a toy poodle.

We have a mini sheepadoodle and have been struggling to find the perfect shampoo. We have tried so many different brands and price points of shampoos and conditioners for doodles and this is by far the best smelling and makes my pup’s hair SO soft!! It washes off all the NYC smells and grime and leaves my pup smelling and feeling like he just left the groomer! I just want to squeeze and smell him all day long with this shampoo.

I ordered this shampoo along with the coconut mist for the dogs that come in with dry skin. However, when I opened the box I knew it had leaked straight away as I could smell it! It really does smell beautiful.

I contacted Christies and the lady was very helpful. She organised a replacement to be shipped and it arrived two working days later, which was fantastic. However the same thing happened again! I contacted them once more and the same lady was very apologetic and completely refunded my purchase.

I want to stress that this has never happened before with any products from this site (and I’ve ordered a few other shampoos and sprays of the same brand) so it really is just a fluke. I can assure anyone reading this that the product smells incredible, very coconutty!! Also, if you do have a problem after ordering, their customer service is second to none.

I’ve tried several different medicated shampoos. My dog is a beagle mix and he has outdoor allergies & also food allergies. This is the only shampoo that has controlled the itching & healed the red sores and raw skin.

His fur has also grown back. Cortisoothe shampoo worked a little when Relief shampoo was not being sold. As soon as Relief came back I started purchasing it again. All dogs with allergies react differently to each kind of treatment but this shampoo is worth a try.

I´ve been using the product for my dog once a week for over 6 months now. My dog had some skin issues and my vet recommended this product to provide my dog some comfort and to stop with the itchiness.

I always soak his coat with the product for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse. Its amazing how his skin changes, its softer and how comfortable he feels. I love this shampoo.

We had used this product for years until it disappeared. Having found it again, we are thrilled. It is by far the best shampoo we have ever found for our dogs. Their coats are cleaner, softer, and they smell better longer when we use this shampoo.

The product lathers better than anything else we have used, and we end up using much less of the product to get a clean and wonderfully smelling pet. Try this on your Schnauzer and you will love it too!.
