20 Best Human Probiotics For Dogs (2023 Updated)

i have several cats, all rescues. the cats were traumatized due to being thrown away, abused, born feral or from being a stray. even years later, there are still emotional issues. i have used prescriptions meds for anxiety but giving liquid or pill medications caused more hassles.

these chews are fabulous. my cats at first did not like the strong scent. but, when i sat with them, on the floor, during their feeding time, and hand fed broken pieces of the kibble to them, they consumed it and it worked within ten minutes.

these are cats who have trouble socializing with humans and even other cats, and these chews dramatically improved their quality of life. i am telling everyone about them. i also know that the chews for dogs work because my realtor has a very nervous medium-sized dog and these help her immensely.

i think these should be advertised much more, give them the recognition they deserve, these chews will help millions of cats and dogs.

I have mother and son cats. The mother I trapped living in our office parking lot- the son is 1 of 5 born 3 days later. Both are fixed. The mother is wonderful. She loves her indoor life. The son is a psycho.

Bouncing off the walls. ‘Patrolling’ the house as he does that odd, ‘calling’ meow like he’s warning others. Stalking and fixating on his mother, often pouncing on her. (btw- she is petite, 10 lbs. he is 17 lbs of pure muscle) Basically acting a bit feral.

I had to do something, so I started looking for daily-safe calming options. I used to buy another brand, but they were so hit-or-miss. One packet he would eat. The next he would try to bury. I started looking for another option and found Pet Naturals.

He loves them. Always eats them right before his breakfast and dinner. (someone complained about choking- just cut them in half) With the way he is, obviously this will be a daily thing as long as he lives.

He is simply calm. Doesn’t act drugged or confused. He simply relaxes. I have been using them since January 2020, and I’d say I am 95% satisfied. There has never been an issue with Elliott eating them until Dec.

2021. All of a sudden I have 2 bottles -purchased from Amazon- that he REFUSES to eat. Both are batch 460860001 0923. Luckily, at one point when Amazon was out of the 160 ct bottles, I purchased some envelopes.

He WILL eat those. There is something ‘off’ about the ones in the bottles. Unfortunately the return window at Amazon has closed.

I’ve given this product 2 stars because unfortunately, we have not noticed any benefits, nor do I have any significant ‘pros’ to report. However, it didn’t seem to do any harm, and therefore I have not given it a 1 star review.

This is one of those pet Hip Joint supplement products, of many (see picture) that have ended up in my pet supplement graveyard. I have 3 senior dogs; Romeo Juliet are 15-year-old Maltese, and Bella is an 11-year-old springer spaniel.

While they all have aging bodies and some medical complications, Juliet in particular has been diagnosed with arthritis and hip dysplasia. Julie appears to be in pain often, constantly limping and hiding, and her bones even make an audible clicking sound at times.

Needless to say, we have tried a vast array of Hip Joint supplements for my little Julie, with varied degrees of success. In our past experience, the majority of Hip Joint supplements have 2 things in common: they contain the active ingredients Glucosamine HCI, MSM, Chondroitin, and Vitamin C, and they don’t do anything to increase Juliet’s quality of life.

A few of the Hip Joint supplement brands that exist on this list and in my Hip Joint supplement graveyard include NaturVet Naturals Joint Health 3, NaturVet Naturals Aches Discomfort, and this PetNaturals Hip+Joint, to name a few (not even including all of the Hip Joint treat brands we have tried).

This PetNaturals brand fits the mold of all the other less-than beneficial products of the like that we have tried, and contains Glucosamine, MSM, Chondroitin, and Vitamin C (along with manganese). As mentioned, there are two supplements we have tried in the past that have far surpassed my expectations for a dog supplement and DRASTICALLY improved Juliet’s quality of life- one is ProThrive Senior by Animal Health Solutions, and the other is Wag Lifetime Joint Care by Pet Research.

These product not only changed my opinion and expectations of what a dog Joint supplement is capable of, but quite literally changed Juliet’s life. Taking one of those supplements, she acts like a puppy again! Added energy, reduced hiding, minimal limping, and most importantly, she appears to be happy.

Furthermore, when my other two dogs consume those product, they too are more energetic and appear more youthful. One of the best qualities I’ve noticed about those 2 products is the ability for them to work so effectively, so quickly! They don’y seem to need as long as other brands to “build up” in their system to start working.

(For the record, the Wag Lifetime Joint Care by Pet Research, does not include any of the typical ingredients seen in the less-than beneficial brands. )However, both of the aforementioned products are quite pricey, especially if your dog is larger than a Maltese.

With Wag costing $44. 99 for 60 tablets (Though I stretch these out to last 120 days for Juliet- 1/2 of the recommended dose for her size but still quite effective) and ProThrive costing upwards of $50 for 12oz (170 supply for my 10lb Julie).

This product comes in at less than $30 for a 240 day supply for a dog up to 10lbs, so I was excited for my pups to try it and hopeful to find a product that might work as well as the other brands at a fraction of cost.

Unfortunately, I never noticed any significant benefit with any of my pups while taking this product, and I recommend saving your money and trying one of the 2 other aforementioned products. One other thing that I’d like to mention about this PetNaturals brand, is that it is a tablet (we have had much better luck in the past with powdered supplements- like the ProThrive brand).

With the exception of Bella, my girl who is notorious for eating practically anything and everything, it is worth mentioning that Romeo Juliet will not eat this tablet unless it is covered in peanut butter or hidden in cat food, and even then Juliet will occasionally spit it out (for the record, Julie is always pretty bratty with any supplement.

) So much for the chicken liver flavoring. Pros:+ Comparatively low cost+ Easily broken in half by hand without crumbling or requiring pill cutterCons:- No noticeable benefits- Picky pups won’t eat it plain (but they are brats 😉 ).

We have two dogs. An elderly rescued pitbull with tummy issues and a very picky goldendoodle young whippersnapper with tummy issues. We have changed their diets and cook fresh for them and have straightened out the poop situation but the farts….

the paint peeling farts that emitted from these two was enough to make you want to build them their own wing of the house. I decided to try this probiotic, figuring it would probably just pass through if it didn’t change anything.

A couple weeks later, after daily doses, I have not been gassed out of the living room or forced to sleep with my nose under the covers at all. The farts are gone. Our girls are happy and bouncy and feel amazing! Our little old lady pitbull is playing like a spry puppy! Our teenaged goldendoodle has a spring in the spring in her step! I doubled my order because I can not be one day without these magical chews.

FedEx has failed me so many times I need to order two or three weeks before I actually need them. Thank you, chewy for providing them and for getting them out your door to me fast! Our girls love you for it and so does my nose!.

I adopted a 9 month old Rottie about three months ago and from the very beginning she had horrendous runs. I put it down to a new home, getting used to things and the different food she was eating. I wanted to try something that was not medication before, as a last resort I was going to take her to the vets and have her checked for a stomach ailment.

I did some research online and I came across these. I have to admit, I was a bit dubious about whether they would fix her problem but after about a week or so and giving her three chews a day (70lb) it seems as though they are doing what they are supposed to do.

My dog does tend to eat anything she comes across hidden in the grass etc. before I catch her in time, so she did have a lapse where the runs returned for a day but after one day of chews it cleared up.

When I was researching, it said that they need pre and probiotics. Some other brands don’t have the pre, so this is why I went with this product. Can’t beat the price either.

I expected a product of high standards that would be a helpful addition to my dog’s diet. Instead I received a product that had been opened and even worse was expired. I ordered the end of October 2021 and the expiration date on product was July 2021.

I was then sent a replacement product which was expired August 2021. I was shocked. Had I not looked on the bottom of these packages, which I always check expiration dates, she would have consumed an out of date product.

I wouldn’t have given the opened one anyway but sending an expired product is nothing less than careless and negligent. I feel very betrayed and disrespected after placing such a huge order and this happening.

This being done once is awful enough but twice is unacceptable. I am also very concerned as to the other people who were shipped expired products. Always check dates!.

After having our rescued Coonhound for a year and talking with our vet we decided that she needed something for her ever-growing anxiety issues. She had reached a point where she would do her “sad Coonhound call” for over an hour when we left for work, resulting in a neighbor calling animal control on her! Everything was scary, if the house made a “wrong” noise she would start shaking with fear.

You could always see the whites of her eyes and she would compulsively lick her belly raw to soothe herself. We tried training and making her world as ordered and comfy as possible, thinking that it was a phase from her difficult past.

When the opportunity to try these treats as a free sample arose, I jumped at the opportunity! We received our package the other evening with the Zesty Paws Calming Treats and gave her one with dinner, then another in the morning with breakfast – she only called for us for about 15 minutes that morning (we have cameras to watch them).

When we got home, she had not touched her belly that day, her eyes were calm and her body relaxed. This morning (day two) she only called us for 5 minutes, before calming down, patrolling the house, then laying down with her overly calm brother (no need for supplements with him) for a nap! She is still her spunky, playful self, and is clearly much happier! This has been amazing for us! Not to mention, she finally slept through the night (normally wakes me up because of night fears)! Can’t say enough about how great this is already, and she seems to be getting better every day.

Definitely recommend trying this before any heavy drugs that may make your pup drowsy, or feel drugged. These treats smell so good as well, I’m tempted to taste one!.

It took me a little extra time to decide whether Zesty Paws calming bites did as they claimed to do. I have 5 fur babies and gave this product to 3 of them on most occasions. On a few occasions the 13-week-old puppies got one as well but not for them to calm down but because they took it out of my hand before I could give it to my bigger puppies.

First opinion on product- Zesty Paws calming bites are the cutest and most wonderful smelling bites. They are shaped like hearts, look like dusted chocolate and smell like peanut butter. My puppies loved them.

I even enjoyed opening the jar because of the fabulous aroma. These as a regular treat without the calming effect would be wonderful as well. I provided Zesty Paws Calming Bites to my 3 dogs- August, Beagle, 13 months- Quinlan, Boxer/lab mix, 7 months- Chewy, Pomeranian, 11 years.

My puppies are very busy and rambunction fur babies who ram and tear all day and sometimes, all night. I gave them each 2 of the calming bites around 7pm and I noticed by around 8pm that they would start to settle down and life would get quiet in our home.

Chewy did not need one as he is a quiet dog as well, but I did not want him to feel left out so he would get a half of a heart shaped bite. The more often I gave them to the puppies, the longer it took for them to work, hence, the longer time in writing my review.

It finally got to where I would give the bites to the puppies between 5 and 6 so I could get them calmed down and settled between 8 and 9 pm. Most nights they slept until my alarm went off at 5 am. and I was very appreciated of this.

I have not tried other products like this before, but I have given the puppies vet prescribed trazodone and I believe that the calming bites worked better once the puppies laid down. They stayed asleep longer with the calming bites.

If you have active puppies or dogs, I do recommend giving these calming bites a try. I will definitely be purchasing them. ***I was given a free sample to try in return for my honest opinion of the product.

My Italian Mastiff mix has always had a dull, powdery feeling coat and has always been a heavy shedder. So bad to where you can pet her and your hand gets coated in a chalky substance. I’ve tried salmon oils, skin and coat supplements, deep cleaning/conditioning shampoos, deshedding shampoos, everything and nothing has helped.

After she had an impacted anal gland, Dr. Google told me that omegas can help with the inflammation and expression of anal glands and to try a fish oil capsule. This brand is amazing, it’s been two weeks and she already has a healthy shine on her coat.

It’ll take a recheck at her vet to see how her glands are doing, but coat-wise, she looks so much more improved. It hasn’t helped with shed control, but supplements take a while to show full results.

The only downside is she hates the taste and will sometimes even pick it out of pill pockets.

I’ve been giving this to my 5 month old Akita for almost 2 weeks and noticed immediate results. For the first couple days I only gave him half a dose because he has a sensitive stomach and I didn’t want to shock his system.

He usually has loose stool when he’s given any new treats or supplements but he adjusted just fine. With the half dose, he would still sniff his poops and lick a little, but with the full dose he walks away immediately.

I especially like that this is formulated without the extra stuff like probiotics and other vitamins like other brands because he’s already taking other supplements and I don’t want to over do that. He does need 3 each meal because of his size, so it does add up.

I’m hoping he breaks this habit soon because he’s still growing and 1 jar won’t last long for him.

My 5 yr terrier and 6 yr old pups both take this supplement. My 5yo has been on it most of her life as she came to us from the rescue with a broken leg from the previous family. She takes 2 tablets a day and she is 67 lbs.

when the weather has extreme temperature changes, we dose her twice. We use this supplement for her as an alternative to pain meds and she does fantastic with these tablets. Our other is a 6 yr old Transylvanian hound and he is 104 lbs.

since he is a big boy and approaching his senior dog years, we give him 2 tablets once a day. He takes them down no problem, while she has to be persuaded with a little bit of peanut butter on each tablet.

Small price to pay for happy puppies!.

I really liked that the Fera Probiotic and Prebiotic is organic and based on the reviews I decided to give it a try. I had been using another brand that comes in individual sachets but that is expensive and this product is cheaper.

Initially I gave Hershey a half scoop based on her weight and it seemed to help but after a week and a half she was having loose stool again. I upped how much I gave her to one whole scoop. Again it seemed to help for a little bit.

I had high hopes that after giving her this for a while that her stool would firm up so I purchased another container. Things still did not improve after giving her one full scoop out of the new container so I had no choice but to go back to using the sachet brand again.

I am stuck with a nearly full container that I cannot use because it did not remedy her poo poo troubles. I did really like that it does apparently have no flavor as Hershey did not notice it in her food and ate it all up.

I wanted Fera to work for my baby and unfortunately it did not.

We purchased this when my dog had a reaction to a new food and had loose stool and this helped clear it right up. Most recently our dog has been on antibiotics the past week, The antibiotic she is on (Clavomax) apparently has a tendency for causing GI upset with loose stool.

Our girl has been getting 1/2 scoop of this probiotic with each meal since starting on the antibiotic and she has never gotten loose stool. She’s on the tail end of taking the antibiotic now and I know if her tummy would have been upset it would have been within the first three days of starting the medication.

I credit this probiotic for the positive results and keeping our dog’s tummy normal through the course of antibiotics. I’m sure without it she would have had the typical reaction with loose stool. She’ll be getting this every day in her food going forward.

I’m caring for 2 kittens that had runny poop when I first got them but after a few days this stuff cleared it up. I split one packet between both kittens, sprinkling about half a packet over each kitten’s food bowl first thing in the morning and they’ve been eating with no issues.

I use wet food with the probotic powder sprinkled on top as I’ve noticed with dry food, sometimes some of the powder ends up at the bottom of their bowl. I’ve already purchased another box and will keep using it!.

I had been using another more expensive brand, and I tried this because the ingredients were pretty much the same and it wasn’t as pricey. Pleasant surprise, the cats really like it. I mix it into their wet food, and it appears to be a hit.

28+ year breeder of Boston terriers. Had always had problems getting little ones tummies used to solid food. They always had diarrhea. Started them on Proflora sprinkled on the litter’s food as first feedings and about once or twice a week till they go to new homes, and what a difference! 🙂 My 13 year old Shih-Tzu has been suffering with arthritis pain. He would curl his little body up and any movement or any pat or scratch we would give him, he would moan. 🙁 I was so worried for him and felt so bad that he was going through so much pain.

I bought this brought as an emergency replacement for my normal product I have bought for my cat, who is 13 and has major IBS. I was very surprised to find it Green and the husks in it were so large you can not get them up a syringe to syringe feed, it blocks it.

My cat can not have wet food so I can not mix this with anything other then aloe water and his medication, to make what came out as a very lumpy paste. Next you need such a huge amount of this its just not reasonable.

if you cat is 5 lbs and under I do not see how you would get that huge scoop into them. I have kept my old scoop from our normal brand which is about 1/4 a tsp which still makes a thick past and will not waste you base.

I am going to try and put this through my food processor to brake down the husks more. but over all this product has become a pain in the behind. You can’t put it in the pets water it will turn it into slug.

They may want to rethink that whole kale thing with it being green and not something that can be put in both food and drink.

This product helps cure my kitten\’s diarrhea, and it tastes good enough that my kitten would eat it alone. I just wish the colour isn\’t green, cuz sometimes it gets onto my kitten\’s face and it\’s hard to wipe off.

Bought the large jar. I used it on 2 of my large breed pitbulls, twice daily, who have horrible allergies. Jar lasted roughly 3 months. Did nothing for one dog but worked miracles for the other. The skin around his hind end and tail where he was balding, turned dark, then velvet-y, then re-grew a beautiful coat of shiny, thick fur.

I’ve been trying to get his fur to regrow for years. His energy also came back three fold. He’s a lazy 11yo and now acts like a puppy. Bowel movements are greatly improved as well. First time I’ve experienced a true “miracle” product that remedied my problem.

Our Labrador, being a typical Lab puts everything he finds into his mouth. He has a particular fondness for bird droppings. We have chickens as well so this results in the dog having chronic diarrhea.

Since we can’t have him on antibiotics 24/7 we’re working on enforcing new behavior rules, much greater diligence on our parts (this dog NEVER goes into the fenced in yard without someone to watch him) and dietary supplements.

We’ve tried several probiotics supplied by the vet during rounds of antibiotics and they never really did much for very long. THIS WORKS!!! Since our boy is 85 lbs plus he gets 2 little scoops a day – we split them between his two meals.

My Pitbull constantly had ear infections that would cause him to have seizures i had tried everything the vet recommended and more. I was told about the flora dog probiotic by a friend who had similar issues with his pitbull and so i figured what could it hurt to try.

It’s been two year’s and these probiotics have saveed my sweet dogs life he hasn’t had any ear issues or seizures since I started giving them to him! Idk what i would have done if not for these pills! Absolutely a life saver and i don’t have to worry that he could hurt himself now.

My mixed lab would consistently get ear infections which seemed to never go away. I was taking her to the Vet every other month it seemed. Since I started her on this product she has not gotten any ear infections.

I know certain breeds get yeast infections in the ear and I am thinking she was getting them plus some other bacteria. I ordered this product in hopes it would help her. This is my 2nd purchase of this product.

I wipe her ears every day and give this probiotic in her food, it is very easy to mix (powered form), so far so good no ear infections. Highly recommending this product from Vital Planet.

Our Shih Tzu has had skin problems for. EVER!. The flora Dog we bought in the past was helpful. however they were the soft chews. This time around I didn’t pay close enough attention and bought the hard tablets.

We break them up for him but they don’t seem to work as well as the soft chews. Could just be him but take notice just in case.

I started our 2 and 4 year old labs in these based on the reviews and that our 2 year old was recently diagnosed with early onset arthritis. Our 2 year old seemed to loved these, while our 4 year old did not like them at first as they were pretty hard.

I cut them up and he eventually came around and started eating them. As we neared the end of the bag, I flipped it over to discover the best by date was many months past when I ordered these (best by February 2021 but ordered in June 2021).

Wondering now if that is why they were not really chewy or soft. Will try these again but for anyone who purchases these I would caution to check the best by date. Chewy was notified and has said they would look into it.

The only other con to these was with bigger dogs the dosing is pretty high. According to the instructions ours need 2. 5 twice a day each so these go fairly quickly as we’d go through 10/day of following the instructions.

I’ve tried Dasaquin tablets and our boys do not like them so I will try switching back to these instead. Too soon to tell if they have much of an impact but at least our boys are willing to eat them!.

Before purchasing, I read the ingredients and decided to go with it as I felt that it was going to be a great product. Upon receiving it, I thought that the tube was going to be full but I was only able to administer 2 doses from one tube so that was just enough for one daily dose for my two dogs at $15.

There are a lot of other really great probiotics available on chewy with the same good quality ingredients for a fraction of this price.

This paste seems to help my 14 yr old rattichi. She was suffering from poor digestion and numerous bowel movements. Her tummy would gurgle constantly and she had horrible flatulence. This seems to help her gut quite a bit.
