20 Best Hooks To Hang Pictures (2023 Updated)

We used these strips to have a certificate frame (A4) and a small frame (A5) in 2019 when we moved into our new home. They were fine until a couple of weeks ago when one fell off the wall and then a week later the other one fell as well, both times unfortunately smashing the glass in the frames.

Our house is not particularly humid but it seems that with the hot weather lately something has changed and the adhesion on the strips can no longer be guaranteed to hold frame on painted surfaces. I have always been an avid supporter of using these strips for picture hanging but I can’t take the risk in the future of repeat damage to glass frames so I won’t be buying them anymore.

I’ve been trying to hang wrapped canvas with these as well as the hangers for sawtooth hooks. The pictures are far below the weight capacity but will not stay on the wall even though I followed instructions to the letter.

Very frustrating. I finally called Command and was told even though they are far under the weight shown, the canvases are too large and the hooks will not work. This should be made much more clear on the packaging.

I wonder how many people have wasted money the same way I did.

OK, so as a collector of fine memorabilia, let’s say movie posters. I need to frame those bad boys, because some I own are worth more than the clothes on my back — it’s true really. Anyway, I didn’t want to put holes in my wall with those damn nails.

I picked up the 8lb saw-tooth hangers from the wal-mart store; you can find anything there, it’s weird. So I pick these bad boys up, and decided to do the impossible. I was going to use it. I had this giant stupid poster that’s 41×81, which if you can figure out the bigness of that in your head — it’s pretty damn big.

It takes up an entire wall, really — that’s huge. The poster sits nestled in a large frame of course, and the frame is some what heavy, but hang able. I took two of these 8lb command saw-tooth hooks, placed them on the wall for 20 minutes.

Then, I took that giant poster frame, and I stuck it against the two, balancing it out on both sides. The package told you not to, but that package can kiss my grits because guess what? For over 4 months now, that bad boy hasn’t fallen off the wall.

Why? I have no idea, I guess it’s my luck. But I recommend these because I even use ONE (properly probably) for one, smaller frame. Give it a try, and tell wal-mart Richy sent you.

Very pleased with this hook. I have used it to hang my diploma at my office and it is very sturdy and my frame looks wonderful on the wall.

I tried to hang a couple of light frames with the 10-lb. hook and nail. Frames crashed to the floor. I will go back to using 20-lb. hook/nails for everything. Planning to return these.

Command strip mounting systems are perfect for displaying art when you don’t want to put nails holes in your walls. I use them at home AND to display art done by my art group. We share a room that is used for many other purposes.

Our art can easily be taken down when needed.

The sawtooth hangers are the best for picture hanging! I have used them all over my house! Perfect for holiday decorations orations and year round artwork. Easy to remove just be patient and follow the directions.

It was easy to use. I used them on two 100+ year old photos and frames. I liked having a hook to use with the wire on the frame, rather than applying a strip to the antique frame.

Outstanding value on a quality product. I live in a small town, I drove a forty mile round trip to purchase some of these at the nearest place available a arts and crafts store in a neighboring town.

They had one small package of them left in stock and the price I paid (not counting gasoline and time to go get them) about a dollar a pair. If you only need to hang a couple pictures that’s no big deal.

If you’re hanging items continually in galleries every month Do your arithmetic people.

Your D-rings are of good quality and a good buy. However the range of use is somewhat limited. The screw shanks are so thick I cant use them in picture frames of a certain thinness. Why dont you sell a smaller size as well as what you currently sell?.

Was buying individual packages of hangers from retail store until I found these. These hangers are bigger, stronger and come with longer screws! All around better!!

OMG. I absolutely love these Command hangers. I am disabled. Hanging pictures is nearly impossible with my bad shoulder. I cannot swing a hammer or hold and screw a screw. Slap these on and slap up the item.

Voila! The item is hung up. I was in place a year when I discovered these and gave them a try. I no longer had to wait for help to get my walls decorated. I could do it myself and did!. Command products are amazing.

I recommend them to any disabled person who wants to do things for themselves.

I’ve been find SOOO much use for the Variety Kit. My youngest started a Pre-K course this Fall, so we have been working hard to establish some new routines, including some general household habits. Since I received this kit (a gift from 3M to try out and give my opinions for) I’ve used it to establish a location for my child to hang up their coat & backpack.

I also put 3 others on a wall in their bedroom so that I can hang up 3 sets of outfits for them to choose the next day. What else? I’ve used one for my child to hang up their bath towel, and to hang up their potty seat so that it’s out of the way & not on the floor.

When you have kids, you will easily find new uses for the various hooks for various weights. The pack comes with a VERY helpful chart on how much the hooks can handle. Don’t throw out that chart. Keep it with the pack so you know which hook to use.

The hooks look like it can hold a lot, but you must respect the weight limit. My favorite part about this set – Everything is removable! If you no longer need the hook at it’s current location, you can easily remove it and REUSE the hook.

The kit comes with a few extra stickies, but you can get more WITHOUT having to buy the hooks again.

I have used a multitude of this brand’s hooks both paid for and others tested, but did find this pack very useful for overall qualities. First, I often misplace mine and the plastic container can later hold replacements or used to organize other small items.

I am not sure ahead of time what my needs will be and often am unprepared. It matters that variety and size being available makes my time and budget easier to manage. I do not tend to use the stick on tooth types listed as Picture Hanging Strips often but it can help keep things flat against the wall.

I also often run out of the removable stick tape and I rather do without one for a hook than some other bigger option products I do have. The set makes sense in having something of use one way or another.

I gave it a 5 for need, adaptable product use, saving me money in terms of a box I need, less purchases, while also providing types that can work as a unit for some projects. Remember to prep surfaces that can tolerate alcohol and dry before leaving for awhile to adhere properly.

This picture holder was recommended by an art department employee at Michaels. It worked so well we went back and bought a whole box of them. They can handle a good deal of weight and are easy to install.

It is rated at 100 pounds but the fine print says only if on a stud. On drywall it will hold less. I used it to hang my 40 year old German clock and it works well, seeing that the clock weighs between 20 and 30 pounds.

Best hanger ever purchased for a heavy item. I was amazed at how secure it felt on the wall. I would only buy these in future for heavy pics or mirrors. Definitely worth paying a bit extra.

Finally my favorite picture hangers in one package at a great price 🙂 These have been my go to art and picture hangers because the hardened nails can be cleanly removed from my dry walls with the faintest holes left behind.

I’ve never seen these types of hooks before so thought I’d give them a try. I am impressed. Using 2 nails instead of 1 just gives me more assurance that my picture will stay on the wall.

This is the only brand that I use. Hardened steel pins easily penetrate any wall. And they leave very small holes. In 25 years, I have never had one fail.

Works as expected. First time I’ve hung anything using nails versus command strips on a dry wall by myself before. It was pretty easy. Nails and hook seem pretty sturdy and are holding up my huge diploma frame.

These hangers are great–they are easy to use and they are very strong so you can hang almost any size picture. They well tell you how much weight they can hold which is quite convenient. I am using these kinds of hangers all the time for pictures, calendars and whatever else i want to hang on my walls.

These are great in theory, except that the little sticky markers that you stick to what you’re hanging and then they’re supposed to stick to the wall…well, they don’t stick to whatever it is you are hanging, so they’re pretty much useless.

Luckily I’ve hung numerous things and was able to measure using a tape measure, mark, and also use a leveler to figure out spacing. Still, it was a lot more time/effort to do it that way then it would have been had those markers actually been able to be used.

I feel like these should be half the price they are, because they’re just a little piece of metal, with some sticky foam that may or may not stick. Still debating on whether or not to purchase these again, as I’m setting up new house and have lots to hang.

I guess they do actually do better on the drywall than having to drill into a stud, and the end result when taking them down is a lot less mess with patching/covering holes than drilling/anchoring would require.

So maybe I’ll change it from one star to two based on that only.

i had a picture that I wanted to hang just sitting in my closet because it was too heavy for traditional picture hangers to handle. It was one of those “I’ll get around to it someday” projects. Thankfully I received a 3M CLAW Drywall Picture hanger to try!! This hanger is amazing!! First, you don’t need any tools-you just push the hanger into your drywall and the steel claws lock into the drywall and it stays! And this hanger is strong-it will hold up to 65 pounds.

My picture was at least 40 pounds, and it is hanging perfectly on my wall now. I would highly recommend this picture hanger for all of your heavy (65 pounds or less) pictures, mirrors or artwork. I received a sample of this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

I received this product for free from 3M to evaluate. Here is my review: Hanging pictures on drywall has always been a challenge especially anything that has some weight to it. We’ve tried using nails, wires, etc.

and oftentimes they aren’t strong enough to hold our pictures up without using multiple devices. And even then it’s often difficult to get all those pieces lined up so one’s picture isn’t crooked. The 3M CLAW Drywall Picture Hanger is an amazing solution to these challenges.

It can hold a ton of weight (up to 65 pounds!) and is really easy to line up and install (just us eh included spot marker and push it into the drywall). Really couldn’t be easier and more secure. Now we don’t have to worry about a picture crashing down to the floor.

Saw Delancey DIY post about these and they have become my new go to for hanging pictures. They are so easy to use, especially for pictures with a wire on the back! Amazing and effortless to hang new art around the house – just find your spot and twist it right into the drywall.

Its very comfy organization your items well. I absolutely love this. I bought a different one previously. I returned it because it wasn’t long enough to hang on the door and have the things at the bottom without screwing it into the door.

I didn’t want any permanent holes.

love these but can be difficult sometimes when trying in certain wall spaces but i use them for every from horse shoes and pictures and even my holiday decorations they are soo strong and all the sizes you can get.

Just a note of caution on the quality of the design/quality control. I bought a package of these at my local Michael’s store, but I want to let people know that the package of 30# hooks contained 15 hooks with nails, and in only 8 of them did the nail provided fit through the hole in the hook.

The nails were too thick, or I should say, the holes were not big enough. I read online to see if I could use thinner nails I have instead, and I can so long as the nail just about fills the hole, no room for wriggling around.

They are of good quality and work great. I won’t return them, I’ll use some nails I have, as they won’t show, and the quality and design of the hooks is otherwise good.

This hook has a great design which worked well on my plaster walls. HOWEVER, only a few of the hooks and nails in the package were compatible. The nails were too large to fit into the holes on the hooks.

I had set aside time to hang several pictures and was very frustrated that I could not complete the job. The manufacturer should improve its manufacturing and quality control.

The folks at Michael’s were so helpful in suggesting the perfect hanger for our drywall but then when it came time to hang pictures on our adobe wall, that definitely required a different product. We bought these in the 20# and 10# size and they worked perfectly!! Naturally, we put a couple in the wall and then decided to move a little to the left, right, up or down.

The BEST frame hangers and nails. The ball at the end keeps the latch in place if using solo on a notched latch. If used with the hook, it keeps your hanging wire securely in place.

Love these hangers. They are so easy to use and also easy to remove from wall if you have to move your picture. Also, they only leave a very small hole when they are removed.

Easy to install. Holds appropriate weight. Good design.

Successfully hung 5lb first picture on drywall using two pins. First pin went in perfectly using a firm blow with the heal of my hand. Second pin jammed using same technique. Used pliers to pull jammed pin from tool.

Third try worked fine. An aggressive blow seems to work better, a tentative blow or firm push mey result in failure or a serious jamb. Marks on base of tool did allow easy alignment but bubble level is flush so working above head was difficult, needed a ladder but got lucky without one.

Used supplied small hook adapters with wire attached to picture frame. Adjusting picture for position and level was easy. Conclusion: good for lightweight items on soft walls and poster boards but expect occasional tool failures.

May want to consider just using replacement pin sets and a small hammer with needle nose pliers but gitting the correct angle for the pin might be tricky. I suspect a truly effective tool would cost $50 or more, too much for the occasional small job around the house.

Standard push pins do not work, are set at 90 degrees and tend to fall out of soft walls if under pressure. Velcro and tape tend to fail over time with changes in temperature.

When I moved into my house I hung up many smaller pictures, 1 medium sized picture, and a relatively heavier large butterfly decoration, the latter of which made me a little nervous. Let’s just say, after moving 5 1/2 years later, every picture and decoratio.

I was scheptical when I first looked into buying this product but purchased it at the request of my son. I have to say that I am very happy with this product. When used properly it will insert a small nail with a plastic cap into the wall at a downward angle.

Therefore when something is hooked to it, it will not pull out of the wall but try and anchor into the wall better. With the optional accessory kit you can hang almost anything. It does have trouble setting into heavy paneling but sheetrock is a breeze.

For the price this unit cannot be beat.

I received this 60lb wall hanger for free in exchange for my honest review and opinion. When I first received the hanger, I thought it was very tiny and didn’t quite believe that something so small can uphold 60lb of weight.

But to my surprise, I sure can’t judge a book by its cover! Wasn’t sure how to apply the hanger at first glance because I never seen such a shape, but installation turned out to be easy. But strength is definitely need to push the grips into the drywalls.

Removing is easy as well with minimal damage to the wall. Been hanging my children’s portrait with heavy frames without any problems. Overall great product because I don’t have to hammer nails on the wall which I am horrible at.

Quality is definitely made of durable material as well.

The High & Mighty wall hanger is of really great quality. The hanger really works great for hanging up pictures, mirrors or other objects. This wall hanger could hold up an object up to 60 pounds. The hanger is very easy to install without even using any tools! You just have to place it against the drywall and push the hanger with the sharp points into the drywall.

Very easy and the hanger is sturdy and stays in place. I used it for a heavy mirror and it hangs straight and sturdy. When I want to remove the mirror the hanger is easy to remove and only will leave some small holes in the wall.

I would really recommend this wall hanger when you want to save your walls from being damaged.

I received this product at the perfect time. I had just gotten a beautiful wooden sign to hang on a bare wall in my living room. Usually my husband would deal with the hammer and nails, but I decided to give these 20lb wall hangers a try while he was at work.

I must say, at first I struggled a bit to get these pushed in and angled properly, but once I got the hang of it with the first one, the second one was much easier. I was concerned how these hangers would stay in the wall, but surprisingly they have held up perfectly.

These hangers say they will hold up to 20lbs, and while I haven’t put that to the test, my beautiful sign is a good 10lbs and it’s holding up great! I will totally be purchasing more of these as I am in the process of repainting and redesigning my master bedroom.

I am a custom picture framer, digital media artist, and now novice oil painter and I try to always keep at least one Tidy Tin of Ook Professional 20lbs picture hanging hardware in the house for when I decide to fill the last 20% of wall space in my studio.

The walls are more than full, and I would guess 75% or more of the pics and art are hung with Ook. Hands down the best, and I prefer them over anything else I have tried; professionally or for personal use.

One of the members in our local gallery store recommended Ook hangers with the thin black mail for use on the old plaster walls that the art is hung on. These are the only hooks we will use, as the black nails are sharp and thin so only leaves a small neat hole.

Good value for so many pieces. Sturdy material. I used multiple ones immediately and they were easy to install.

Okay, I will not lie. When I first saw this very small hook, I did not think that it would hold 5lbs let alone 30lbs. Well it did. I hung a 35×47 picture that was roughly 30lbs (including the fiberglass frame).

I mean it is small really small, but mighty. I also tried bending one and using a hammer to see just if the hook was durable and it stood up. Was a bit dinged up, but still held its form. I am shock behind this hook.

It’s a win for me.

These wall hanging hooks works like it should. Holds my wall paintings with no slipping out of the holes. The only two issues I have is that the hooks don’t bend out enough for my paintings to hook on easily, but I’d imagine the small space between hook and nail is to keep items more flush with the wall.

The other issue is that nails came in a plastic bag. I needed a hard container, but I can manage. Other than that I am satisfied with these nails. Would recommend.

I just love this set of nails and hangers for all of your picture hanging needs. It’s a great starter set for a gallery wall or a new homeowner. The nails and hangers are all brass. They are sturdy and hold up to 30 lbs.

We were able to have a qualified professional in their framing department help us get the right type of art hangars with the correct weight for our project.

Solid, well made, good size for larger item hanging, and holds well in plasterboard. Currently holding up very large 23″ x 25″ frame with 3″ wide boarder with display on plaster board wall and I have no doubt it will hold the rated weight (100lbs) if nails are placed in wood.

Using these picture hangers and following the instruction and appropriate weight guidelines, I hung 3 framed artworks of considerable value. For some weeks there were no problems. But each of the pieces fell down.

Luckily, the artworks themselves were not damaged. All the frames, however, were broken, as well as the glass on one of them. It will cost me SEVERAL hundred dollars to have them reframed. I am FURIOUS.

Uses these to hang lights some light signs on doors. The hold was amazing. The door is textured, so I was surprised they worked so well. But, when I went to remove them, the little pull tabs just ripped off! I just took a table knife pries it up gently.

No damage done. Just not as easy as it shows on the packaging.

I had used these on seven different pictures (relatively light. probably 2 lbs a piece) for over three years in my apartment before I moved. None ever fell off. I can only assume the bad reviews are from people who didn’t apply them properly.

Or, in the case of mlg85’s review, he clearly did not use the proper procedure for removing them (which is to pull directly down on the adhesive strip).
