20 Best Hooks For Rainbow Trout (2023 Updated)

The durability of this bait is really unmatched by any other bait I can think of, I have one that literally is missing half of it’s body, the plastic lip, and even the middle hook after dozens of beatings from Pike, Small Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Walleye, Musky, and even Bluegills all in one lure! I always have it one me as a lucky charm! It’s action is beautiful and perfect as expected from Rapala and always produced fish throughout the day.

And can be used for any tactic like trolling and casting. For patterns I have Silver, Blue, Yellow Perch, and Gold Plated Fluorescent Red. All are very good patterns, I would recommend Silver for sunny days, Orange for cloudy days, and any natural pattern at any time.

For sizes I’ve always used 4-3/8″ and up to 7″ for Pike, Walleye, Bass, and Musky. I don’t really recommend using any smaller as they become very light and hard to cast in the wind, unless your fishing for Crappie and all other species of Panfish.

I personally would recommend buying three patterns for each light level, one bright neon for cloudy days, one shiny/reflective for sunny days, and one natural for any other times. The only downside to this bait is the price.

It may seem like a pinch for the price but it is easily one of the greatest investments I’ve ever made. I have hundreds of lures and this is still my number 1! Thanks Rapala for another beautiful bait, that has caught me countless fish.

Outstanding product!. We use these lures in Northern Canada and they are tough and durable for big pike. Recommend pinching the barbs even when your not fishing in Canada as they hold on to anything in proximity when you have a big pike bouncing around a net or in your boat.

The suspended action is perfect for fishing shallow water, 3′ or less or fishing in 10 feet. Walking the dog is the most effective retrieve. In combination with 20lb or 30lb Fireline braid and a six inch steel leader, the lure action is always perfect, the finish doesn’t fade or peel and they stay tuned no matter how many big fish have tore into them.

The Rapala floater has caught lots of fish for me all over North America. Most notably I have caught hundreds of pike with them over the decades (using the larger sizes and primarily standard/common colors).

I mostly use them on topwater, though a faster retrieve causing them to run a foot or two deep can work great, too. Again, I have caught hundreds of grayling in Alaska and the Yukon as well, using the 3 and 5 centimeter sizes — for some reason the grayling can not resist the gold color on a sunny day.

As a note, the Countdown and sinking models work fantastically in the Northwoods on walleyes, especially starting about an hour before sunset. On big lakes, let them get deep. Experiment with the colors.

If a lake has perch or bass, try those patterns for sure.

I discovered Panther Martins a few years back and swear by them now. The blade design is ideal for all speeds of retrieving, this blade will even turn as the lure drops. Color patterns all good though my most productive are yellow on black and red on yellow.

Wwter clarity and cloud cover will have big affect on selection. Trout, bass, pike the list goes on, I’ve caught them all with these.

I once pinched down the barbs on a 1/4 oz. gold spoon, black body, yellow spots PM, fishing in the Sierra Nevadas. Conditions were perfect, so I wanted to see how many trout I could catch in about a 1 1/2 mile stretch of stream.

The fish just hammered it. About 5 hours later I had caught 143 trout. mostly native. rainbows, Browns and some Brooke’s. It’s the only lure I use when trout fishing. 1/8 oz. when the water gets low.

My favorite of all the Panther Martin Spinners. 1/8 ounce Wild Brook Trout. 1/16 treble hooks are too small for the big trout. Have caught over a couple hundred trout before I need to replace it.

I use TMC hooks almost exclusively. Buy then from MRFC in 100 packs which they are one of the few shops that maintain a good stock and ship very fast. Great folks to do business with and are always helpful.

I’m a fan of Tiemco hooks. They have the styles that I need for tying. The points are sharp. The shafts of the nymph hooks are strong and not easy to bend.

This is the first firearm I’ve purchased online from Sportsman’s Guide. The price for the pistol and the 4-Buy program from Sportsman’s Guide sealed the deal for me. The pistol shoots incredibly well.

The trigger is very responsive, and has a great wall and break at vertical. The reset on the trigger is also very distinctive. The Romeo1-PRO sight is also great. The Motion Activated (MOTAC) works really well.

Now that it’s becoming difficult for my eyes to focus on the front sight, the Red Dot is a very welcome addition. Dry firing this pistol is a little strange as the strike is somewhat muffled. However, when firing the pistol responds very well.

My son was firing it single handed off-hand and was still putting tight groups (3 inches) at 15 yards. Firing at 7 yards the groups are even tighter (2 inches). At 25 yards the groups are still within 6 inches.

I’m very pleased with this purchase and with Sportsman’s Guide My only disappointment is that the original specs shown on the site had the Romeo1-PRO as a 3 or 6 MOA red dot. When I purchased that was the writeup on the site.

Unfortunately that is incorrect. The Romeo1-PRO can indeed be purchased as either a 3 or 6 MOA sight, but the Romeo1-PRO included with this pistol is specifically the 6 MOA sight. That is why this review is only 4 stars.

The pistol is 5 stars. The writeup on the site has since then been corrected. I’m still very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this pistol, even for concealed carry.

First. yes they are more expensive than others. Now that’s out of the way,let’s look at em,shall we? These are amazing hooks. period. The quality of material. the uniformity from one hook to another.

to precision sharp points. all top both stuff. Eyelets are perfect and again. consistent. No irregularities anywhere I’ve seen. I bought these for bowfin, due to the armor plated mouth,you need a SHARP hook,and these deliver!!! Will also use on buffalo and carp.

Can u find less expensive hooks. yes? But your looking at these because u want something that will level up your fishing game. and these are it.

I have owned this gun now for a couple of weeks and have put over 600 rounds thru it with Zero problems!! Even with terrible range ammo if performed flawlessly!! This amazing gun is just awesome! I had zero experience with a red dot but the Romeo1 Pro is perfect for me.

I shoot with both eyes open because I am right handed but can not close my right eye so I use my left eye and although I was not missing my target with iron sights I just wasn’t hitting where I was wanting to.

But this Romeo1 Pro red dot has absolutely made me a better shooter no questions asked. When I do what I’m suppose to do with all my mechanics I hit exactly where I am aiming. The flat trigger is great.

Very lil play in it and just easy trigger pull in my opinion. Even the iron sights are awesome. Got the xfive 21 round mag in it and it just added that much more aggressiveness to it. Put a Olight mini 2 on it and now it’s just nasty mean looking!!!!!! This will be my every day carry and its is worth every penny!!.

I’ve been to Alaska fishing several times and I can say without any reservation that the #5 Mepps Aglia with the silver blade and two tone red/yellow body is THE BEST salmon catcher in my tackle box.

Last trip to Alaska I caught every one of my fish on that lure. I rarely see it in anyone’s top 10 when talking about salmon spinners but it should be. That big #5 french blade just chops the water hard and drive salmon crazy! If you’re planning a trip for salmon this summer or fall put 10 of these in your box and I guarantee you won’t regret it.

I’ve been using Mepp’s spinners for decades as the lure of choice fishing for trout in the many canyon rivers in northern Utah, and they are still the best I have found. Construction quality is always precision and dependable with Mepp’s, though I find I the rocky bottoms and heavy vegetation in and around the shallower Utah canyon rivers are quite rough on them and challenge their life span.

Warped spoons and stripped color flutes from the hooks are usually the first casualty that ends the life of the lures that survive the snags, so I usually only get about 3-4 useful outings from each.

I really punish them, so I think that’s reasonable for such a precision device (though I would like to see them hold up a bit longer). Overall, an effective and highly recommended lure based on decades of experience!.

I’ve been using these hooks on texas rigs for the past couple of weeks and have had great success. Very few missed fish, and once they’re on, they stay on. My only complaint would be that I have had them bend out a little bit.

This could be due to the use of a 20lb braid, but I still would hope that they would not bend just from having a fish on. It is not like my drag is all the way up.

The super line series of hooks have become my favorite for regular use, i have found it especially useful for flipping a Texas rigged bait, like a berkley pit boss. The hook fits most common plastics well in the 3/0 & 4/0 size.

I like the 3/0 the best for a pit boss and beaver style baits. Cant go wrong with gamakatsu period.

I originally purchased a few of these looking for a more high end, durable replacement for my handfuls of 2in Husky Jerks that had fallen victim to their weak lip construction, and I’m glad to say these have outperformed any other lure alike, as far as durability, and productivity goes.

Not only do these have incredibly strong lips, but also have incredibly realistic patterns, an extremely tough outer coating with I believe to be resin, and a really nice, and consistent action. Though I’ve been using these for a year now, and in that time have caught possibly thousands of largemouth, spots, smallmouth, rainbow brown and brook trout, and even an accidental 44inch snook, in the past few months ive caught both a 9.

2lb largemouth, and a 7. 91lb smallmouth throwing a silver black back, and a v2 rainbow trout pattern on 4lb florocarbon, which is ultimately why I’m leaving this review as a sort of thank you to the company for providing such a quality product.

the lures themselves simply couldn’t be topped in quality, come with excellent hooks, and a variety of patterns, and most importantly have proven themselves to catch big fish. Ultimately their slightly high price point honestly has saved me money in the long run, as not once has a single component given way to my numerous crappy casts into the sides of docks, spillways, and exposed rocks, and I couldn’t provide any info as to how to improve this lure.

One recommendation I would like to see one day would be a sunfish pattern, as well as maybe a golden shiner pattern, but as far as what’s out there, it doesn’t get any better.

I was recently fishing a gold medal stretch of river here in Colorado when this lure in Ghost White really shined. I was the first car in the parking lot and the last to leave. All day the only fishermen I saw up there (bordering wilderness) were fly fishermen until about mid day when two other spin fishermen came by while I was fishing this lure in Brown Trout and doing pretty well.

Those two fishermen also had HD Trout lures tied on. Later in the day when they were heading back towards the parking area I asked them how they had done and they told me the Chartreuse Shad was really working well but a fish had broken it off the line.

I ended up tying on my Ghost White ‘cuz it was the closest HD Trout pattern I had to the Chartreuse Shad. That’s when things really picked up. Before that it had been slow for hours with various types of lures.

Now it was on. 15-20 inch brown trout were excited about this new offering. I saw things I hadn’t seen before in multiple trips to this river. On one cast I threw this lure just about straight up stream in a pretty fast bottle neck and had to reel about as fast as I could to keep some tension on the line.

About 6 feet from the bank just as I was about to pull the lure out of the water an 18 inch brown nabbed the lure. The last fish of the day was the best though. With only about an hour left ’til sunset to walk back out I cast the lure across a pretty fast section to near the rock island between the two channels of the river.

The lure was only in the water for about 1 or 2 seconds and had only traveled a few feet when a 20 inch brown hammered it. he tasted really good. Thanks Dynamic for helping to make my fishing trip.

I LOVE Dynamic Lures – HD Trout Lures!!! To me, they work better than Rapala Countdowns and are cheaper 🙂 I used to LOVE Rapala Countdowns because of their versatility on the various fish they can catch, but the Dynamic Lure’s HD Trout does the same and at times, much better.

I still stock up on both if I can find deals on them :-).

Great lure that I have used for many years. The color on this really is very brilliant in the sun. Lots of fish are attracted to it. It’s also tough and lasts a long time since it is built so well. The original silver with black back also is an excellent version.

This lure is beautiful. I use the J-9 size in Perch color for largemouth in Wisconsin. I got my first one last summer, and it’s caught so many fish that it’s scratched all over, it’s begun to steer funny, and the tail section is slipped on the wire that holds it together.

Rather than tune it up, I bought two more, and I’m having it mounted along with my best catch–a 5-1/2#, 21-incher. The action must be good–even little perch and bluegill chase it around and hook up, despite the fact it’s half their size.

I’ve caught some very nice bass on it in 2-7 feet of water or so (personal experience) over sand beds on the edge of thick weeds. I’m going to sound old-fashioned, but I love that it’s wooden, and I prefer the older ones with the painted eyes.

Just feels cool using something that’s been around and still works this well. it’s like using your Dad’s (or Grandpa’s) hammer. There are newer, flashier hammers. but we’re not talking F1 Racing–it’s hammering nails (or fish, in this case).

Balsa rapalas are timeless. It floats well, and isn’t too heavy (like a lot of plastic-bodied baits), so you can cast it over submerged weeds, without having it hook into weeds when it first hits the water on a high cast.

Early on, I got excited and bought some smaller J-5 jointed rapalas, thinking that would help me “find the bite” on slower days. They are lighter–so they don’t cast as far, or as well in the wind–and because they have less balsa, they don’t seem to “float” as well.

Really, they float fine, but I find them harder to see, and I think the tail holds the head back in the water a bit. Not a big deal, but to me, the J-9 just works, fits and feels better for the fishing described below.

I’m sure other people have had similar experiences with a spoon that worked great in one size, but seemed off in another, etc. I much prefer the J9 to the J5; I’ve not tried the J11 yet, and while I’m certain it could work well, I’m afraid it might be a bit big for bass, and I’d rather catch small and big fish, than nothing while waiting for Moby.

I’m no expert, but I’ve caught 2/3 of my bass over the last two summers on this lure. Cast it out, spot it, twitch it a few times, wait a few seconds, and start the retrieve. When the fishing’s good, you’ll get most of your hits at the initial “ripple” spot where it landed–sometimes almost instantly–and it’s just awesome to see bass smack it.

If not, don’t worry, a medium retrieve presents no challenge for a fun bass, and you’re back in business. I love this lure.
