20 Best Hoof Supplement For Horses (2023 Updated)

After switching from a combo supplement that was no longer available I decided to try this one. So glad I did. The difference in my riding horses is definitely noticeable. Even my farrier commented on how good their hooves were.

And they have shed out their winter hair to a beautiful soft and shiny coat. Easy to feed and they eat it right up. I’m very pleased with this product and the fact that it’s not a budget breaker is another bonus.

Definitely recommend.

The horses eat it willingly with their grain or hay cubes. I haven’t been feeding it long enough to say how much of a difference it makes but it definitely doesn’t hurt. I like that it has a probiotic in addition to the biotin.

I used to get this product from Amazon for $57 for a 10# bucket. I used to have to remember to order it every month. With Corro I got 2 – 10# buckets for the same price and they do auto ship. I did get a first time buyers discount but in the long run this is an awesome deal.

I started giving Farrier’s Formula Double Strength to my mare in Sep 2021. Her hooves conditions were really poor. She did not have heels. Her hoof walls could not hold the nails and her soles were very thin.

We put her on hoof casts for 2 months and continue to give Double Strength every day. Now it’s been exactly 2 months and my farrier, for the first time, told me her hooves have improved tremendously (90% better).

Her new hoof walls are strong and surprisingly her heels have grown! I live in Thailand so it is extremely difficult to grow the heels with so much humidity and shower here. Your product saves my horse and I will make sure they are stock up at my stable at all time.

I started giving this supplement to my horse a little over a year ago after he wasn’t responding to a traditional biotin-based hoof supplement. He is a chestnut with some white on his feet, so they can be weak and crack easily.

I have kept him on the loading dose because I have been so happy with how his feet have turned out, I don’t want to change anything. My farrier has been so pleased that he can keep his shoes on now and has been very impressed with his improvement in hoof growth and resilience.

He can be a pretty picky eater, and has no problem eating this when I have it mixed with his grain. It did take about seven months to really start seeing improvement, but because horses’ hooves grow so slow that was to be expected.

If you are looking for a great quality hoof supplement, or have tried mainly biotin-based hoof supplements that you didn’t have luck with, I definitely recommend giving this supplement a try.

My horses, now horse, have been on Farrier’s Formula now for about 10 years. My first mare had soft soles and had trouble building a heel, my farrier recommended this product and after doing some quick research I immediately purchased it for her.

It did take a bit of time – nothing is over-night except for injuries with horses 🙂 – but she began building strong hoof that held her shoes well with no cracking and no issues until the end of her life.

My second horse had issues with thrush and holding his shoes while building his hooves back up. As I had my mare on FFDS, I put him on it shortly after he began having some issues adjusting from stall 22/7 to being slowly introduced outside for longer periods of time over pasture.

He, along with my mare, often got complemented my by farrier at how healthy, solid, and problem-free their hooves were. He in the last couple years of his life also had very few problems with his hooves, aside from bone/etc problems.

My current horse is on FFDS as of present, and I find his hooves from day one have had few issues. I find this keeps his hooves healthy, strong, and able to handle the weather and seasonal changes we have in CO.

I will probably always keep my horses on Farriers Formula supplement – perhaps not always the double strength – but I find it really helps troubled and healthy hooves alike to maintain structure, gain and maintain strength, and to be really solid overall.

This is the best equine product that I have ever bought! I have a 25 year old TB mare who has always been on the thinner side. She was diagnosed with PPID a year ago and has been a VERY picky eater since then because of the medication she is on for it.

I tried everything for her – all different kinds of feed, alfalfa, beet pulp, oil, shredded carrots in her feed, holding her feed pan up to her nose so she would keep eating, etc, etc. Some days she would eat well, and other days she wouldn’t even finish her grain despite being left in her stall with it all day.

My dressage mare is a super picky eater, and goes off grain in stressful situations. I had put her on numerous different grains, and supplements. She would eat the grain a couple weeks then go off, so I would try another grain.

I thought I had ordered the pellets like I normally do, but when my order arrived it was the powder. I thought I would give it a try. HUGE waste of money, esp. since I bought the 10 lb bag. I added this to my horses grain and supplements (which I make up in baggies one week at a time) and tried to feed it tonight.

He attempted to eat it at first, but it turned into a glue like substance in his mouth and he refused to eat the rest of it and turned his nose up at the rest of the grain. He was trying to get the stuff which was stuck to his muzzle and roof of his mouth off for over an hour.

Now I’ve not only wasted money on this 10lb bag, but also a weeks worth of supplements and grain since this powder is now mixed in with those baggies. I wish the product name stated this was a powder, and that the pelleted form product name stated it was the pellets.

It would have prevented me from wasting money and getting this totally unedible powder. I can’t even give away the rest of the bag to others at the barn, because no one likes the powdered form.

I started my 1300+# Warmblood Belgian on this hoof supplement just a few weeks ago. He has a tendency to pancake out and gets a lot of stress cracks and breaking in his hooves. During his last trim, my farrier told me to get some biotin in him to see if that would help.

I got on the web and started researching products, and ended up choosing this one. I waited to do this review on purpose, because I wanted my farrier to notice a difference during his next trim, which was today.

For the first time in YEARS, Tucker had no cracks and no big chunks missing from his hooves. My farrier noticed and asked what I put him on. I ordered the 60 individual packs, so I gave my farrier one and asked him to show and recommend it to other clients.

We will see in 6 more weeks what Tucker’s hooves look like, but having only been on this supplement for a few weeks now, I am confident this one is going to be a part of his daily diet for the duration.

I was using a different hoof supplement that’s hard to find now. My mare is 32 years old and her hoofs have been splitting really bad. So the other product was doing wonders, but I decided to try this one and give it try after much research and comparing information and reviews.

In two months of use my mares feet have went back to the horrible splitting and we had it almost stopped with the other product. I was sincerely disappointed as I do like some of their products but this one did not meet up to advertise expectations.

Now I need to go back and start finding the other product. I wouldn’t recommend this product. I am not one to write bad reviews but my mare gets amazing care and this product set her back.

I started using this on my 2 Paso Fino horses. The Ferrier has to come often for them, since I have been incorporating this supplement into their feed I have noticed that their hooves have in fact gotten thicker and stronger.

The horses ate all their food when before it took a bit to get them to eat. They have enjoyed me adding this supplement to heir diet and it has really helped strengthen their hooves. I am happy with the product.

It is easy to open and close. The bucket is not too heavy. I can carry it around when I go to feed them, I recommend this product.

I have had horses for 40 years and have been a horse trainer for 20+ years. This is one of the best supplements for hoof care, both for problem feet and preventive measures. I had a horse with laminitis and this was one of the only supplements along with treatment that worked.

You actually see improvement in the hoof in a matter of days. I’ve never had a horse be fussy about it either, so it’s never wasted, which is a huge plus. I recommend this to all of my clients and will continue to use it on my own horses.

My 26 year old TB mare was getting a clicking sound in her ankles when she walked. Buying a joint supplement was stressful, because she is PICKY! She has turned her nose up at a lot of supplements in the past.

Purchased this to help with feet after realizing a new zip code wasn’t doing my guy any favors. He was on Cosequin ASU and seems to have maintained soundness. Too soon to tell from coat/ hoof condition, but I expect good things.

Started feeding this supplement 3 weeks ago and have seen drastic improvement in my 22 year old Arab mare. She is running and bucking and enjoying life again. Didn’t think it would help her, I was wrong.

I bought 2 horses a little over a year ago. They both had surface cracks on all of their hooves. I was told that it was common in Washington. I didn’t like that statement and I’d never seen it before.

My mare had severely cracked hooves when we got her. After pulling off her shoes, we had to rehab her feet from the years of poor farrier work. Our other horses are blessed with excellent healthy hooves and have been barefoot for eight years.

Honey is not so lucky and is prone to dry cracked hooves. We need to keep her on a good hoof supplement, and the ingredients in DuMor are the best I have found. No more cracks and she is a very happy barefoot mare!.

I started feeding Nu Image DARK HORSE because it is a significant source of copper. My mare developed chronic, painful thrush in one hoof. Topical thrush treatments sting and treating her feet became a battle.

For all the effort and discomfort the thrush never really cleared up enough for her to be sound. But supplementing with copper has reduced the thrush to almost nothing (it comes back if she’s off the copper for a week).

At 20 she is the picture of health with a round back and glossy coat. Her scant, itchy mane (probably another fungal issue) has grown back. If fungal issues like thrush are your horse’s problem and you are considering a Select the Best product, be sure you buy the DARK HORSE product.

Select the Best also offers plain Nu Image which has a different formulation with no copper. Note, Select the Best does not advertise or recommend their product for fungal issues. Also, even though labeled Dark Horse, I would not hesitate to feed this to any color horse.

As for palatability, my mare wolfs it down but my gelding won’t eat it. Fortunately he has no fungal issues and his coat is nice.

Works Very Well on My Dark Bays; yet my Black Stallion although Darkening up, is still in a constant fight with Sun Fading! The Sun even yellows the outer layer of my Silver Hair; SC in the Summer is just horrible, but it is Winter now & there are still faded areas on his Back, Hips, Mane, Tail & Forelocks.

It took a couple months to really make a difference, which I suspected it would since new hair has to grow in first. I saw the best results after switching my easy keeper from a very small portion of a complete feed to a ration balancer, which helped ensure that he was getting an appropriate amount of all his vitamins and minerals.

Now that his winter coat is coming in, not only is his hair 100% black and not fading in the Alabama sun, but its also the shiniest I’ve ever seen it. I’m also seeing a change in his hoof growth near the coronary band as his hoof wall grows out.

The palatability is also great. He licks his feed bucket clean to make sure he gets every last bit, so I don’t have to worry that it’ll fall to the bottom of the pan and not make it into the horse. Palatability: 5.

I gave this to my first three horses who already had nice, solid feet, and it helped maintain the good quality of their hooves. I purchased a horse about 18 months ago with extremely chipped/cracked hooves.

I immediately started feeding this to him when he arrived, and you could very clearly see the line of new excellent hoof growth from his coronet band within a few weeks. I have watched the line of his new hoof grow down over the last year and the quality of his feet has improved so much and the cracking/chipping is now at a minimum.

I have kept him barefoot the entire time, and I believe this product has absolutely contributed to that. I highly recommend it.

I started using this product soon after I bought my pony about 3 years ago. He had okay feet, but had some chipping happening before his trim was due. A month after I started using Horseshoer’s Secret, I started to notice a ring of new, smoother hoof growing down from the coronary band.

This hoof continued to grow all the way out, which took about 9 or 10 months to fully grow out. It has been a complete transformation, with all new hoof growing in. The new hoof is completely smooth, slightly larger, and his soles are hard and healthy.

He has always been barefoot. He no longer has any chipped hooves except for the occasional minor spot here and there. His farrier always compliments his healthy feet. In addition to great feet, his coat always looks amazing.

To make his coat go from muddy and gross to shiny and gleaming just takes a rubber curry and some brushing. The ingredients in Horseshoers Secret is great for hooves and skin/coat. I think most horses would benefit from this supplement as it covers two important aspects of horse health! I highly recommend it.

My senior mares have been on this supplement for one year this month. They really enjoy the taste of it and come running to eat it from the pasture!! My ferrier says the condition of their hoofs has improved since prior to the supplement.

The hoof wall is thicker and stronger. I have noticed that their coats and manes are also shining, smoother and softer. We will continue to feed this, and definitely recommend adding it to your horses daily feed.

We have been using this supplement for about 3 months. Our Farrier said it would take at least a year to see results. Not accurate in our case. Our horses hooves look amazing. They used to crack and chip in between trims.

They haven’t been trimmed for a bit since it’s winter and they look pristine! The color and smoothness is very apparent. Super happy with results!.

Having tried rosehips and seaweed for a year to improve hoof condition of hooves, which did help a bit, F4F after only 6 wks use is really helping. Have issues with WLD and thrush recurring, so alongside direct hoof treatments with other produces AND using F4F there is great improvement! Regrowth of fresh horn is fast and excellent quality.

Also their coats are very silky and shiny on this formula, even better than when i was using linseed oil, rosehips and seaweed. Experiencing less mud-induced ‘scratches’, ‘mud fever’ on heels this year also which i think is due to the multi-mineral formula of this supplement.

as many say these conditions are partly due to mineral imbalances coupled with a muddy/wet environment. so this is helping in many ways, it’s expensive, but considering i was buying many separate supplements to balance minerals in their diet – this includes pretty much everything in balance already so ends up not costing as much.

Rosehips alone are very expensive! Also there’s no dubious fillers, or GM ingredients which you’ll find in pretty much most supplements offered on the market. This product actually is great quality, other products have great marketing and poor ingredients.

Would highly recommend trying if you have poor hoof conditions.

I have 2 mares, mother and daughter and never really had any problems with their feet until the winter of 2015/16 when it rained every day from November til March! My horses live out with use of a field shelter.

After that winter their hooves remained soft and they would have been going into the next winter in poorer condition. I decided to try a hoof supplement and started feeding Formula 4 Feet in September 16.

My horses are barefoot and have their hooves trimmed every 8 weeks and since feeding the supplement my farrier says its really improved their hoof condition. They put on good grown with smooth horn. My horses are not shod and not ridden on the roads at the moment but F 4 F certainly helps them stand up to wet field conditions.

The 20 kg sack is better value for money and I reduce the dosage to a maintenance level over the “summer”.

Formula 4 Feet is a superb for growing healthy hooves. It is cereal free and GM free. My ex-racehorse had such poor hooves that cracked and split preventing my farrier getting shoes on her. I have fed Formula 4 Feet for six months and she now has strong healthy feet.

Amazing for a thoroughbred. I also feed it to my part-bred Connemara who has thin soles due to Cushings and Navicular Syndrome and is laminitic. The quality of his hooves is also improving.

Have a mini whose white hooves were terribly soft, he was even tender to trimming. He had chips and cracks in his hooves non stop. I tried another brand which did nothing, not even the 1200lb dosage.

This stuff works! His hooves are so impressive and hard, no more chips and cracks and his frogs look amazing. and we have had a crazy rainy season, over 70 inches, and his frogs look impressive! I’ve been giving him this for about 5 months and I’m already saving month on farrier trips, he is the one who recommended this brand.

This stuff is so good I put my shetland mare on it to improve her frogs as they are always soft and peeling. About a month in and WOW, what an improvement on her as well!.

I was trying to find something to help increase hoof growth to grow out a crack so I held my breath and ordered Shur Hoof. I cannot 100% say it is amazing until Ive used it for 3 months, but after using it for a month, his hair seems thicker right at the follicles and a very thin line of hoof at the coronary band seems pretty healthy.

I am starting to have high hopes!!.

Whilst I am generally sceptical about supplements in general as I think we over supplement our horses, I decided to try this when I was eight months pregnant and doing the one millionth poultice on my horse which has gotten abscesses twice a year at least for the past four years,some lasting 8weeks.

It was the last dangerous straw so decided to try a supplement. I looked online and this came up as having good reviews and available in this country. Since I started using this in October 2015 his feet are harder and we haven’t had an abcess despite very very wet ground.

I’m very pleased so far. I have noticed his feet are much more hardy, not rock crunching yet but much better. He is still barefoot.

This is amazing stuff, the double dose biotin is such a good idea as I know my horse is getting enough to improve his feet. Within two months my TB’s feet have massively changed for the better. He has now held shoes for more than 4 weeks which was impossible before! he has typical TB feet that crack and chip all the time but even in this really dry hot weather we are having his shoes have not come loose and his feet are looking the best they ever have in the summer.

I am almost finished my first tub of this product and can’t say enough positive things about it. The ingredients are fabulous. Henri is quite an anxious horse and it affects him internally so he’ll stress and windsuck.

This product is settling his tummy with the fenugreek and liquorice, his coat is mirrorshiny and the seaweed Is to thank, oh , and it smells lovely. Very palatable for the fussy eater , which he is. I’ll use this product long term as the results are too good to stop using it.

70 mg of biotin per scoop (extreme case amount-1/2 scoop contains 35 mg of biotin). My mare has small Quarter Horse hooves that have been problematic for her previous owner-laminitis and weak. I started her on a scoop of this supplement a few weeks ago and the results are amazing! Her hooves are more solid and strong.

Her spring coat is glistening like copper strands. As a plus, no sugar or molasses in this supplement.

Our horses had multiple reoccurring abscesses due to poor hoof quality. Started this supplement 6 months ago and NO issues since. The hooves are more solid and hold shoes nicely. I recommend this product to anyone who wants to improve their horses hoof quality.

I have had 3 horses on this for years. They used to lose shoes and their feet were horrible. 2 are OTTBs. Started this a couple years ago after trying others and love it. I go back and forth between a full scoop and half a scoop depending on the season and what their feet look like.

I have tried literally every product on the market to keep one of my geldings from gettting white line disease and abscesses. I put him on Cosequin ASU Joint and Hoof about in December and his farrier appoint on April 1st the farrier couldn’t believe how much better his hooves looked.

I live in Minnesota and it’s been nothing but mud, wet paddocks here for the past 6 weeks – 100% recommend! **My horses don’t have a problem with the taste – I mix it with their other grain and they don’t even notice it’s there.

This is the only supplement I feed because it does work. I have a horse with high ringbone who has been lame for extended periods of time so I started and maintain him on Cosequin and the lameness resolved.

If you have horse with arthritic tendencies this should be the first line of defense. I also use it in my dogs, including a tripod. As soon as she lost her leg, I started her on Cosequin for dogs to protect her remaining legs.

My giant breed100lb dogs x 2 seem to thrive. Both had musculoskeletal injuries that healed nicely, have used this since they were pups. I double my regular 1/4 teaspoon dose I give them with each meal x 2 daily when they twist or sprain something.

They seem to perk up and spring back. Their dog food already contains some from the manufacturer, but its really not at an effective level from what I have read elsewhere. This product has served me well with my giant dogs.

Update: Dec 10, 21I now have 4 Black Russian Terrier, just adopted 2 more, received at age 89 5663 in human years, at about 110lbs each. They both limp significantly and have trouble with the stairs due to their advanced age.

So, I give them 1/2 teaspoon at each twice a day meal for each and hope they live out the rest of their lives in comfort. I also give them coconut oil which is supposed to be anti-inflammatory. Also add a squirt of wild caught salmon oil.

I also cut back their food. Less weight and less to lug around. I trust this supplement will assist them in their advantages age. My original 135lb and 120lb dogs are doing great.

I have a gelding that has always had bad feet – thin hoof walls ocassional quarter cracks and does not grow any heel. Over the years I have tried many supplements. I did not learn about DuMOR Hoof supplement until I moved to Texas four years ago when my new farrier recommended it.

The results have been simply AMAZING and Remey’s feet have never been in better condition! The hoof wall is stronger, able to hold shoes much better and he is not as sensitive when being shod. I was so thrilled with the results that I started it on my 30 year old mare on it also and her feet have also improved.

We rescue horses from horrible situations. Most recently, we received a horse who had been neglected, starved and abused. He is the sweetest, all black, 16. 2 hand Percheron/QH cross. Atlas came to us hundreds of pounds underweight, suffering with major abscesses and hoof damage that seemed beyond repair.

Both Vet & Farrier suggested we euthanize him. We decided to give him a chance at life so long as we could do it without pain and suffering. We have successfully used DuMor products to gain weight and speed up healthy hoof growth.

Seeing positive improvements, all 5 of my horses have no problems eating this. Felt like it was time to change from HoofGuard to something else. Since feeding 5 horses I looked around for a while to get good ingredients and cost effective.

Although it is truly difficult to recommend a hoof supplement to another horse owner I have to say this is the one I would recommend. Please remember that hoof growth does not happen overnight and many factors have to be taken into consideration.

My OTTB has now been on Master Hoof Blend for a year and we now have regular shoes on him as opposed to glue on shoes. At this rate he might well be able to go bare foot soundly in another year. Bad crumbly feet that had a hard time holding glue on shoes and making bare foot impossible was what I was dealing with on a daily bases.

Now his feet are much improved. Palatability: 5.

My horse fell through the ice as a yearling and permanently damaged her coronet band. She foundered when she was about 10 and now at 17 I am still very weary about using new supplements, because I fear she will founder again.

I used Source HF for years because I knew she would eat the Source and it wouldn’t be harmful to her but I decided to make a change about 2 months ago. I did some research and chose this product due to mainly good reviews, and the great price! She got her feet trimmed today and the difference in the crack is amazing! It is smoother and much less noticeable.

Even my farrier commented on it. Her feet just seem more supple and less fragile than they have ever been. I can’t wait to see what this product can do in a few more months!.

I have an older mare who’s always had hoof problems her feet have always been super soft on top of that she’s 18. 2 hands. I pulled her shoes for just over a year and finally put her on this supplement.

Best hoof product on the market! My farrier had told me what to look for in a hoof supplement. This product had at least 1. 5x more of the beneficial ingredients than many other products I looked at and was cheaper than all of them! My horse has been on it for 18 months now.

We had been battling everything from thin hoof-wall to thin soles and lameness from him easily bruising his soles. Since he has been on the product, and with the help of my farrier, he now has normal looking hooves.
