20 Best Honda Crv Bike Rack (2023 Updated)

I found the Thule T2 Classic bike rack to be fairly easy to assemble and install onto my vehicle. When I got this rack, I was looking to replace a much older rack that was loose in my hitch and carried bikes by their top tubes.

It led to bikes banging against each other and bouncing around a lot when I drove, it Feld insecure and it was slowly scratching and denting our bikes. I like the tray-load style of this rack, but I was looking for something a little more affordable than some of the other options.

My concerns with this rack were that, since it didn’t have the same hitch securing features as the more expensive options, it would be harder to install and less secure. However, I found that while it is slightly more difficult to install (not really that much), it is extremely secure.

The difficulty in installation comes when aligning the holed with my vehicles receiver and the bike rack. This is pretty easy to fix with a piece of tape to mark when the hitch is installed far enough.

After those few growing pains, we’ve loved using the rack. It is a lot easier to secure the bikes, and I really like the integrated locks which prevent the bikes from being stolen. I actually prefer them to the cable releases on the more expensive version.

The rack is super easy to use and the locking release handles on the arms are a nice touch. The product only came with one lock insert for the hitch pin, though. there were no lock inserts for the two release handles, those had to be purchased separately.

The rack is fairly stable, but we’ve had bikes roll over at highway speeds twice now (neither fell off the rack while driving, thank goodness), so we’ve taken to adding a ratchet strap or bungee to prevent the problem.

The strap stops the bicycle from moving backwards away from the vehicle while traveling, which I assume is due to the force of the wind traveling over and around the car. After doing so, we went for a couple of three hour drives on the interstate without a problem.

I can’t say if this is a design flaw or just something I’m experiencing due to either my bicycle build or a lack of expertise in mounting the bikes. The best thing about the rack is the ease of use – Petunia really enjoys being able to load the bikes by herself.

We’d definitely buy this rack again.

We own both the T2 Pro and the T2 classic. We bought the Pro first, but the expanding wedge that locks it to the receiver will not work with the 2. 5 inch receiver without an extension. This causes additional challenges.

The T2 works well with a threaded anti rattle hitchpin that extends through the 2. 5 inch hitch. It is solid and holds the bikes well with little movement. Each Shepards hook can be locked with a thule lock cylinder (you must purchase this separately, expensive but interchangeable).

The hooks hold the front tire well. Cons. the rack is heavy. The locks only hold the front wheel, not the rest of the bike. The tire mounted on the back of my wife’s Jeep prevents the rack from folding up.

While not as refined as the T2 Pro, I prefer this rack for its ability to positively secure the rack to a vehicle, and because it works with my 2. 5 inch hitch (common on 3/4 ton trucks).

Took me about 20 minutes to put this together. The instructions are pretty straight forward, and easy to follow. They remind me of Ikea instructions. It can hold many sizes of bike tires, and doesn’t touch the bike frame, which is pretty much a ‘must have’ feature for me.

It’s super easy to load and secure a bike on the rack, and would really take something catastrophic to have it come out unintentionally. It’s fairly light for it’s size, which makes taking it off the car when not in use simple to do if you’d like.

I use it to transport a mountain bike and a road bike. It does ‘bounce’ a little with the mountain bike on it, but it doesn’t sway at all. This is the reason I gave it 4 stars (I would have done 4. 5 if possible).

If the bounce wasn’t there, it would get 5. In Mike’s review, he said the only thing holding the rack to the car is the safety pin, which is incorrect. If you tighten the knob shown in the video starting at the 2:07 mark, that expands the shaft in the receiver, and keeps it from moving around.

You then lock the knob to the base, and then the rack can’t be removed from the car- unless you break the knob and have a tool to loosen the hex bolt inside the base of the rack. The safety pin is only there in case that knob should loosen somehow- the pin keeps the rack from falling off the car.

I purchased the INNO Bike Hitch INH110 but, unfortunately, I am not happy with the purchase. The first thing I noticed when completing an inventory out of the box was that I was missing the six CAP BOLT M8 (instruction description).

After contacting the INNO parts service and discovering that they did not have the bolts in stock, I was left with the unenviable task of finding the bolts locally. I asked parts service about simply taking the bolts from another box but was told there were none available.

This resulted in me going to my local Home Depot and asking for assistance in allowing me to take various size M8 bolts to the car to determine which would fit the hitch. It turned out to be the M8X1.

0X25mm bolt. Assembling the hitch was easy. I then inadvertently discovered that after “correctly” securing the ISP 1068 Safety Pin to the vehicle’s trailer hitch and “correctly” securing the SP 1074 Knob/lock, a fatal flaw was discovered in that I could physically remove the entire INNO bike hitch from the vehicle by simply unlocking the ISP 1068 Safety Pin.

This means no manner how I secure the bike to the INNO hitch, a thief can simply undo the ISP 1068 Safety Pin and remove the entire INNO hitch “and” bike without difficulty. Hopefully, I have solved the problem by securing a bike lock cable to the INNO bike hitch and inserting the cable through the vehicle’s hitch post holes.

In my opinion, it would have been better if the INNO hitch had a ½” or 5/8″ hole to allow a receiver lock bolt to secure the INNO bike hitch to the vehicle. I would not recommend this hitch because of the fatal flaw.

I’ve used this for a variety of mountain bikes, kids and adults. The loading mechanism is simple and easy to operate. And I can get it onto my car quickly and with relative ease. The tilt out function that allows you to open the trunk while bikes are loaded only works on my car with one bike in the far position, but I’ve got wide bars.

Cons: 1. Getting it into the hitch the first time was a challenge. I had to file down some burrs on the metal. Since then it’s been a breeze. 2. The lock wire mechanism is a bit futsy, but it’s hard to complain when they don’t charge you an extra $120 per bike for locking accessories (looking at you, Yakima).

3. There is a slight tilt, relative to the bumper, on the way it sits in my hitch. It seems mostly aesthetic, but it’s annoying.

Picked this up from my local Walmart yesterday and used first time today. Fortunately, it met my expectations! Great little rack! For the price it cant be beat – nice quality, easy to install and take off, rides secure on my BMW 3 series, and stores easily in my trunk.

Issues are minor: 1) The metal clips have no padding so its metal on metal as clipped to my trunk lid – didnt hurt, did not scratch my paint, but I will add a thin adhesive rubber strip to the inside of the clips just so I feel better.

2) The bottom bracket bar will likely rest against your license plate – not a problem unless you are super sensitive about your plate or perhaps some peace officer calling you out (I doubt it). 3) There is no assembly but you will need to slip two ends of the support arms into a hole on the bike-mount arms – simple and its only for the initial set up, but it does require some hand strength and care that you keep your fingers clear when they snap in place.

4) I didn’t use the bottom center strap.

for reference i drive a 2013 prius C. assembly was a little confusing but the allen website has good videos for assembly/once you set it up its easy to do again. the pins were very hard to put into place though but im satisfied because they seem sturdy.

one qualm with this is the metal attachments possibly harming the metal of my car. i have decided to fit pieces of sheet rubber (to size) on all the metal attachments so theres some padding in between the car and the rack.

hopefully this damages the car less, although i dont plan on having the bike rack attached to my car 24/7. when driving my bike one of the tires jiggled so i also decided to attach bungee cords along with it for extra security.

all in all, this is a decent bike rack, especially for the price, but it DOES need adjustments and extra security that can be easily achieved with some innovation.

Installed on 2008 Honda Civic. This bike rack is good for the price. HOWEVER. you need to buy extra straps to secure your bike(s) properly. The installation instructions are not very good, and the company videos on YouTube are not that great either.

For help with instructions, look at regular YouTube videos of real people using the product. This help me get it installed. Installing is fairly easy to do, but if you have never used a bike rack you may need some help like I did.

All in all, this bike rack will get you by. Be sure to check out the company website for your vehicle compatibility before you buy or simply Google for more information. There are much better racks out there, but probably not at this price point.

I am beyond disappointed in this product. First, the directions are hard to follow, and pictures make very little sense. It doesn’t fit correctly on my car. I drive a Subaru Crosstrek, and I carefully checked the Thule website to make sure it would, but the clips on the side keep falling off no matter how much I tighten them.

Even worse is that I can’t get my son’s bike to fit on this, so it’s completely useless. It’s absolutely impossible to get his bike on it as the arms are too wide for the frame of it. He rides a 24” mountain bike, so it’s not like he’s riding a little kid’s bike.

I’ll be returning this as soon as possible.

I just purchased this product and have spent the last two hours trying to find a suitable resting point for my small women’s bike. The arms are too far apart to fit the frame. The rubber straps require a weight-lifter’s strength to stretch.

The sway stabilizers are difficult to mount and apparently have to be unmounted before a bike can be put on or removed (I was only successful in getting one on and was able to stabilize the bike better by using extra straps).

There were several other issues with the rack itself as it related to my bicycle, but there were also issues with mounting it to my car (yes, I checked the Fit Guide). Even when pulled as tightly as I could manage, the straps were still loose.

The hooks do not fit easily into the gap between the trunk and the car body, although I had to open the trunk in order to get the bottom ones back out again. Nor am I impressed with the security of it.

It seems to me that a thief would take less than thirty seconds to remove bike, rack and all if your car was left unattended even briefly.

Thule documentation claims that the Thule Passage trunk mount bike rack can be mounted on the back of a 2013 XC70 wagon. However, there are plastic lenses running along the top 80% of the sides of the back of this wagon.

As a result, there is no where to attach the side straps. I have contacted Thule for advice. Meanwhile, the best that I can do is to use a homemade accessory strap as shown in the photo. Perhaps Thule should offer such an accessory strap.

The Thule Double Track Pro XT is a great in-between platform rack for 2″ or 1 1/4″ hitches for two bikes based on cost. Heavy duty enough for bike stability and durability but not too heavy to carry from the storage area to the hitch.

It has well built plastic cups (wheel trays) for both front and rear wheels with straps to hold the wheels extra securely while the user is locking down the frames. The straps ratchet tightly and include a sliding pad to protect the rim finish.

They can be laced into the wheel tray one way to allow for fat tires or laced another way to fit narrow road bike tires. The center mounted mast has ratcheting arms with cushioned hooks to hold down both bike frames and both lock to prevent theft.

There are no locking cables to bother with and the single key works for the 2 bike locks on the ratcheting arms and the lock on the hitch bolt. The hitch bolt is 19mm and secures the rack tightly in the receiver preventing excessive wobble.

The rack comes ready to use for 2″ receiver hitches, but there is a set screw that can be removed to slide off the sturdy shank adapter that fits over the 1 1/4″ core. This makes it usable for both typical hitch receiver sizes.

The wheel trays adjust easily side to side with cam locks to tighten and there is a tray for each wheel for extra stability. The instructions guide the user to install them so the curved opening is facing away from the mast which adds to the secure hold on the tires.

The mast hooks that press down on the bike cross bars can flip either direction. This was helpful when my wife’s step through frame required the hook to be moved farther left of the mast to press down on the lowest and most flat portion of the cross bar.

The wheel trays allowed adjustment so the mast arm came down very close to the seat tube part of the frame. The round center button at the base of the mast is very large and unlocks the mast from the down or up positions.

I found that when I needed one hand to hold the bike and one to pull up the mast, I could hit the mast button with my knee or a foot to release it. The HitchSwitch lever lets you tilt the rack away from the vehicle with bikes loaded to access cargo area.

When bikes are not loaded, the same lever allows the user to fold the platform up and closer to the back of the vehicle. There is plenty of room between the rack and the hitch to access the HitchSwitch or the receiver bolt.

I am grateful that a company like Thule made this intermediate platform rack with sturdy plastic trays for the tires. I did not like what I saw in less expensive platform racks that had simple, slighlty curved wire rectangles to hold the tires.

I would have preferred this rack be availible with a one or two bike add-on system. I could not justify a $900 2-bike rack then have to add-on an additional $500-600 for 2 more bikes. There were some Thule platformn racks like the T2 Classic that were $550 + $400 for the two items.

This is my second Thule rack. The first one gets a 5 rating. My issues here are with the lack of instructions and “cautions. ” First, the instructions are entirely pictorial and difficult to follow, at least for me.

Example, instead of “tighten securely with provided wrench” we get a bulging bicep. After the fact, I found a few comprehensive 10-15 minutes videos on YouTube that were helpful but too late. Start here, not with the provided instructions.

Second, the rack does work with a step-through bike. Would have been a nice cautionary note in the product description. But for $40 more, Thule will sell you a cross bar to make the rack functional. Even with this cross bar, it is difficult to get both vertical supports tight using a step through cross bar bike and a standard bike.

Third, the rack does not have a serial number, which precludes the buyer from registering the warranty. This lack of serial number, supposedly from not being produced in the USA, was also noted on various web postings, but not by Thule, which simply instructs the buyer to enter it to register the rack.

Still unclear how to register. Finally, never start your bike unload process without the vertical bar being tightly in place to secure the bikes. I loosened the vertical bar and left the wheel straps secure.

The bike, being held in place by only the wheel straps tilted and snapped both the “shoes” where the bike sits. Given I cannot register the rack to explore replacement parts, appears my best option us to buy two replacement “shoes” for $40 each on Amazon.

So, my “usable” rack will cost an additional $120 with much aggravation in the middle. I understand the costs saves of universal packaging materials and instructions to avoid multi-language manuals. That said, I would have gladly paid an extra $5 for better instructions and FAQs to avoid these pains.

If you are thinking about buying this rack, do your homework first.

I was going to do a car top bike holder on my Thule roof rack but with an SUV, that just seemed like it would be tough with a large bike. Went with this instead. Fairly simple to put together and holds the bikes really well.

As someone else said in a video, the locking mechanisms for the bikes themselves could be removed (while locked) by someone with an Allen wrench, but it’s a deterrent, not a fail safe. Don’t leave bikes unattended for long.

The locking mechanism for the rack to the hitch, however, is solid. No easy way to get past that so I don’t worry about the rack disappearing overnight, even parked on the street. One negative with Thule, though, is their utterly abysmal customer support.

I lost my keys on the first ride. That meant I couldn’t even remove the rack from the hitch. There was no way for me to be sure what kind of key I needed because the Spare parts page doesn’t list it.

I emailed and waited. And waited. 8 days later, I got an email response. REI had already helped me out, thankfully, with their set of master keys and advice how to order a new set. But if you need help, CALL Thule.

Don’t bother emailing unless you want ti feel ignored for over a week.

I chose this rack after it kept coming up as the best bike carrier in numerous online ratings. Despite the horrible assembly instructions, it does everything I want it to do but I have never used another tray-style hitch mount bike rack before to compare it to.

It does seem more sturdy and easier to customize than my previous hitch mount hanging-style bike carrier. I have two large mountain bikes and there is plenty of room between them now whereas it was hard to fit those same bikes on my hanging-style bike rack without piecing the puzzle together just right and they still tended to bang into each other along the ride.

As many other reviews have stated, the instructions to put it together are absolutely horrible so, I watched some unaffiliated person’s YouTube video to get better instructions. Many of the complaints I read in other reviews were really just people who didn’t understand how some part or function worked because the original instructions were so absolutely horrible.

Some functions, like the cable lock connections were not intuitive to me and the instructions were not much help so I too would’ve been angry and frustrated had I not found alternate instructions. Also, I’d like to mention that all my friends told me that it is way easier and faster to put your bikes on this tray-style of rack than on my hanging-style rack.

I have not found that to be the case. I mount the bikes in about the same time on either style but the rack itself is much heavier (50+ lbs. ) and takes some extra effort to mount onto my hitch and it also takes up more room in my garage.

Despite the extra effort needed to put the rack on, it definitely holds the bikes much sturdier and keeps them from banging into each other and the bonus integrated cable locks, although not completely theft-proof, definitely discourages any convenience thieves from snatching my bikes off while I run into the gas station to use the bathroom.

Did I mention that the instructions were horrible, though?.

If you have 2 bikes, want to get them on and off your vehicle quickly, and also want them to stay secure on your car without the rack jostling around when off-road, then i think that this is the best rack out there.

I have not tried other racks, but I have noticed how much otherws move around while people are driving, and that makes me soooo unsettled. I have dirven way too fast on dirt roads, taking corners with aggression, and i look in my rearview, and there is no jiggle.

I have a road bike and a mtb. The one piece with multiple molds front tire holder is really well made so i can put road or mtb on either one without any fussing. The rack is also designed to prevent over-tightening, which would hurt the raack and my wheel.

Speaking of wheels, it has wheels on it, so when i take the rack out of my garage to bring to my car, I can just roll it which saves my back. To sum it up, the rack is OBSESSIVELY designed. If you are a believer in the “buy once cry once” mantra, and geek out on features then I would recommend.

If you just want something for your old hybrid, then maybe consider something cheaper. Cons: when front tire bar is recessed, it sits over the handle to bring the rack up or down. I try to just leave the bar an inch above, and it stays where I put it.

This solves the problem, but I am a gear head so I complain 😉 It is also heavy, which I dont notice much, but its the price you pay for a lifelong tool. Lastly, it can be a tad awkward getting the rear wheel situated without putting it on top of the plastic buckle (the thing with the teeth.

) I also fear that this piece is just plastic, and gets pulled around pretty hard, so I fear it will break over time. Also, the little pad on itto protect the wheel is awkward to align bc the buckle moves as it gets tighter.

Maybe just a a longer protective piece would work better?.

This rack is awesome, it is extremely sturdy and secure. I had a hard time deciding between this one and the Kuat NV but ultimately chose this one. You can’t go wrong with either but this one felt more robust and better built.

There were two factors why I chose this one over the Kuat, one, the arms that hook on to the front tire on the Thule are very solid and stable. The Kuat has telescoping arms and at full extension the arms felt light and were quite wobbly.

Two, I really like the method that it mounts into the hitch on my truck. The only way to steal this thing is to tie a chain around it and pull it out with tremendous force, a la a winch or pulling it out with another vehicle chained to it.

The Kuat is secured to the vehicle with a locking pin, which can easily be removed with a small hammer. Once the pin is out the whole rack will just slide out. My only complaint is the price. $800 plus tax is way too expensive considering that the previous version, which is pretty much the exact same thing, was around $200 cheaper less than a year ago.

I understand inflation but come on man. But overall, this is the best rack on the market, and if you have bikes that cost in the thousands, it’s worth spending the extra money for peace of mind while going 75mph on the interstate.

I debated on a 3 or 4 rating, more about that later. We needed a new rack to accommodate my wife’s new ebike, Giant LaFree E+2. Her new bike is a step though and our old rack can’t handle the weight (51#) and has centered clamp down bars which won’t work for a step through.

I also wasn’t looking to spend a king’s ransom for one, especially since this isn’t used for long distance driving, just an hour or so at most. This rack seemed to fit the bill. Bonus points that it’s made in my home state and was in stock at my bike shop.

Overall it’s solid and well made. I am not thrilled about all the plastic but the flexibility in the frame clamps is well thought out, and the frame cradles work well for the ebike frame and my steel framed hybrid bike.

I’m a little concerned about the ability of the top cradle to hold my bike without breaking, which is lighter but mounts on the outside, so I’m wrapping my wife’s Kryptonite lock around the top bar just in case.

Once mounted the bikes stay firmly in place and seem secure. The issues I’ve had with it are that it’s designed to be more or less long term mounted based on the screw type hitch pin that’s provided.

I had to remove the square nut in the tube insert to use a standard hitch pin for easy removal. It’s also designed for a 1 ¼” receiver with an adaptor sleeve for a 2″. I tow a travel trailer as well as a utility trailer so long term mounting is out of the question.

The notion of being used with a 2″ receiver seems to have been an afterthought by the designers. The fit of the adaptor sleeve in my truck’s receiver is sloppy, and the fit of the sleeve over the rack tube is sloppy.

The single screw to hold the sleeve adaptor on isn’t for sturdiness, just to keep it from coming off. The hitch pin hole is ½” for a 1 ¼” receiver, so between all this slop, with 80# of bikes, it rocks back and forth like crazy.

I had to do 2 things to minimize the rocking to a tolerable level. First I bought a Brophy Stabilizer Bracket, at $63 not cheap, but it’s made specifically to tame hitch mounted bike and cargo racks.

Evidently this is a common issue with bike racks, though we had no real problems with our previous rack. The second thing was to drill out the hitch pin hole to ⅝” to accommodate a proper ⅝” hitch lock.

It still rocks, but is tolerable and rocks no more than our previous rack. I’m also planning on adding screws to the 2” adaptor sleeve to provide more stability. My recommendation to Saris would be to get rid of the cheesy plastic insert in the tube.

Provide two steel inserts, one to fit a ⅝” hitch pin, one to fit a ½” hitch pin. Add two screws to the sunk in channels in the 2” adaptor sleeve to tighten the sleeve on and stabilize the combination.

Extremely disappointed with this bike rack. After only owning one for 3 months, being used only a few times, it nearly destroyed my new enduro bike during our last trip. We bought the Saris Freedom Hitch Mount 2-Bike Rack to better protect our bikes during our road trips.

However, during our last trip the centre frame clamp on the outside bike broke away from the rack. Due to the wobbling (I’m guessing), the front wheel bracket then completely snapped off the rack still attached to the front wheel.

The front wheel and handlebars of the bike were then dragged behind the car for a couple hundred meters whilst the rear wheel was still anchored into the mount. Eventually the rear wheel mount strap snapped off along with the anchoring mechanism.

As I drive a 4×4 ute with a canopy it is hard to see the bikes through the rearview. Luckily we noticed the bike was missing before we got too far down the road. When we retrieved the bike the grip and bar end were shredded, the brake lever was scratched up and the front wheel was warped.

I hadn’t even had my bike for 48 hrs and it was nearly destroyed before I even had a chance to ride it. I’m not sure what the warranty covers but overall, I’d have a hard time trusting this rack again.

It took about 10 minutes to put together. Adjusting left, right, turn the bikes around, adjusting again and again took some time to get them to fit without touching. This is not the fault of the bike rack, it’s the bicycles.

Save some time and put the rear tire of the inner bike to the far left. Then the rear tire of the outer bike to the far right and adjust. One 6 mm lock nut was missing on the underside of the tire restraint.

This is my only reason for the 4 star rating. Believe it or not I found one at Lowes. Saris should check these before shipping! The rack is not super tight but does the job. It holds the bikes in place, no scratches or damage to the bikes.

I set the center restraints on the bottom side of the down tube. This makes for very easy loading. I set the bikes in and they hold the bikes it in place while I set the straps. I really like the design of this rack with the center adjusting restraints.

Very well engineered!!!.

Bought this a week before moving across the country. Even when hitting some pretty questionable potholes on backroads, this rack held steady! Paired with a uhaul hitch on my 2011 crv and it’s solid. Very easy to take the bike off and on.

I did use a strap to secure the front tire to keep it from moving around when I was driving- definitely recommend that for longer hauls.

Really liked the original four bike rack. Well built and worked great. Hitch lock broke and so did the sleeve to drop the rack as well. Saris somewhat slow on the lifetime warranty decision, but eventually decided to replace it with the newer Bones rack.

In Toronto Canada and waited all summer for backordered replacement. Missed the whole summer of travelling with our bikes. Finally came in yesterday and did not include the hitch lock (which I originally purchased) so the bike shop is trying to get in touch with them again to have this sent.

The new rack looks good. Design seems improved. Happy it was replaced but very slow moving to get here. I do appreciate Saris standing behind their products, but the expediting needs improvement.

I like this rack, it’s easy to use and fairly well built. However, it’s basically impossible to secure your bike to this rack unless you have a very long cable. I bought the lock and cable Saris sells and it is too short to wrap around my hitch, and there is no place on the rack to secure the cable.

It’s a poor design. There are two openings at the top, but they are narrow and you can not fit a cable through it.

Picked this up and installed just yesterday. The bottom right exterior screw won’t go in due to not being correctly threaded. So defect #1. Then it also sits crooked and leans heavily to one side weather my bike is loaded or not.

This is unrelated to the screw issue. I even double checked to make sure it wasn’t a problem with my receiver, no it’s just not welded together straight. I emailed Inno directly for a replacement. This is a huge purchase for me and a $600 bike rack shouldn’t have problems like this out of the box.

What ever happened to quality control?? 2 stars because the rack does carry my bike just fine and it looks sharp. Hopefully Inno will stand by its product and sends a replacement asap.

Rack is great. Easy to use, easy to assemble first time. It’s heavy but it holds 4 bikes, so of course it’s a little heavy, and the trade off is you aren’t lifting bikes up onto a hanging rack. Just set them in the trays and go.

It’s fantastic. Contrary to what another review says, thieves cannot just take the whole rack off your car. It has a wedge anchor mechanism that you need to loosen to take it off the car—the knob to loosen/tighten that wedge anchor is locked with the keys that come with the unit.

Very happy with the entire product experience so far.

I got it out of the box and fit it on my car today. Figuring it out took me some time, but I haven’t attached a bike rack to my car in a while. Once I figured it out, it seemed well-designed, capable of securely shifting to fit different types of cars, and sturdy.

I would have felt totally comfortable trying my bike on it except the rack I received had a broken piece for holding the bike frame onto the rack, which meant my bike would have potentially pulled out of the strap and away from the rack.

I liked the rack enough to try exchanging it (haven’t gotten the new one yet) but I am little concerned that one connection point could be a weak spot in the design. Another design issue (or maybe particular to the rack I got) is that, to adjust the position of all the arms you have to loosen (and for two of them remove) a screw-in pin, which pin is necessary to then secure the arms in the position you want.

There’s a little nut inside the part that gets screwed into, and the nut fell out more than once, out of more than one slot/arm as I was assembling the rack. That seems like a bad oversight, with one little piece potentially going missing and damaging the integrity of the rest of the system.

If both of those issues are particular to the one broken rack I received, it’s a 5-star rack. If not, then it’s 3 stars. I’ll update when I get the new one.

Order and delivery within 3 days, nice! It would be helpful if the Saris website provide additional photos of the EX2 mounted on the variety of vehicles it is supposed to fit. One photo is worth 10 pages of written instruction.

After a some fidgeting, I managed to figure out the best way to mount the EX2 on my 2022 Subaru Forester. The Saris web site states that the Hatch Huggers are required for the Forester but I found that these Huggers are really not necessary.

Besides the Huggers are a pain to juggle while mounting the EX2 to an open door. Also, the $24. 99 cost for these Hatch Huggers is questionable. Overall, the EX2 is a quality product and has a durable feel.

The upper arm design to clear the door spoiler is great, well done. Mounting should become easier as the EX2 is used more often. Although I have not road tested the EX2 with bikes, I don’t anticipate that there will be any issues.

I bought this to transport my bike while moving house as the Halfords 2 bike carrier was apparently not suitable for my i20. It was very safe and held up for the seven-hour long drive on the motorway without any loosening in the straps.

Rear visibility, even in a small car like mine, is still pretty good, and my rear view camera wasn’t obstructed either. I used a bike lock to prevent anyone else from trying to take the bike while parked up in various places, which was also handy for helping to keep the front wheel still, as there is nothing on the carrier to prevent it from turning in the wind.

The bike rack seems very durable, and I expect it will last a long time. It also folds pretty flat and can fit in the recess under my adjustable boot floor, which is very convenient. At full price (£164.

99), it is a little expensive but I got it on sale for £98. 99 so it wasn’t as bad. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

This bike rack is sturdy and holds four bikes easily. I like how simple the velcro straps are. I use it for 3 adult bikes (26, 26, 24 inches) and a child’s 16 inch bike. Two of the adult bikes have a angled bar and still fit great without the need for an additional adapter.

Its installed on my Hyundai Kona. I needed to use a converter to convert my 1-1/4 inch hitch to a 2 inch. So I have a little bit a wobble on rough spots like going over train tracks. As a 120lb woman I’m able to hook it up myself and go.

I love that im able to get into my trunk so without taking off the rack. My bikes are secured and safe even on the highway going 70 mph. It didn’t include a locking pin so I purchased one.

Run!! Get away as fast as you can!! Allen will take your money, not warning you of the inability for their cheap, garbage rack to sustain slight road bounce from various vehicle suspensions, then void your warranty after your rack is bent, twisted, no longer usable and dangerous to other vehicles on the road! “Buy it cheap, buy it twice” should be the Allen motto, as this will be the first but not last rack you have to purchase.

I sadly found this out after only 8 hours of travel, with 3 bikes on a 4 place hitch – NO WHERE NEAR the stated weight capacity. Put your money towards an actual name brand rack that can do the simple job it’s supposed to.

The bike rack itself doesn’t stay in the hitch. It simple has two pressure balls which jar loose, so the locking system doesn’t even work. It is a very poor design. Plus it requires extra pieces if you have a femal bike.

No to mention their is nothing preventing anyone from stealing the bikes. We had to by a bike lock to ensure the bikes would stay on the bike rack and make modifications to ensure yhe bike rack would stay in the truck hitch.

All and all we were very disappointed in the information about the bike rack, its design, and directions.

The lock broke after a handful of uses leaving the bike rack stuck to my car! The rotating handle used to tighten/lock the rack to the receiver is very poor quality plastic and the lock itself is also very very very poor quality, feels and looks cheap.

you can’t use a traditional hitch lock either as they don’t have a hole drilled for it so you’re forced to used the single hole dainty safety pen – not the best insurance when you have 10K worth of bike on the rack.

When in the locked position the handle spins freely so you are unable to remove the rack if the lock breaks while on the car. I created 2 separate warranty claims for my broken lock and have not heard back for either, its been 8 days.

Some of the bolts also start to back out very easily so you’ll need to add lock tight if you want to keep your bike off the road. After some brief research online I found many others with these same issues many having had the bike fall off while in use on the road.

I had to replace the lock out of pocket to get the rack off but I’m honestly scared to use it again. Bad quality parts/design and even worse customer service, lifetime warranty is useless when you can’t get a hold of Thule in any way.

Do your own research don’t take my word for it. Personally I am never buying anything Thule again after this experience.

I bought this bike rack with the 2-bike add on, and there are some things you should know before you do the same. Unless you’re a big fan of Ikea furniture, in which case you’ll be fine. 1) It’s heavy.

Like, really heavy. I ended up buying a wheel to fasten on the bottom so I could roll it around. If I had to do it over I’d spend the extra $250 to get the XTR, which already has a wheel installed. But it was such a pain to put it together I don’t want to take it apart to return.

If you have the four-bike set up, you need at least another person to move it around. 2) It’s poorly engineered. As in, bolts don’t line up with pre-drilled holes and key pieces are made of plastic. I stripped a couple of bolts and had to go buy extra because it doesn’t come with extra hardware – I mean, for $1450.

why would it? 3) The instructions are next-level terrible. I mean, when I finally gave up and Googled a ‘how to’ video, the first thing the person said was. “The instructions are terrible. ” Also there isn’t an XT video anywhere to be found — just XTR.

So prepare to take things apart and put them back together through trial and error. 4) If you’re buying this rack because you want the flexibility to go between 2- and 4-bike set-ups. don’t. Once it’s set up for four bikes, it doesn’t go back to two.

I’m waiting for the kids to move out then I’ll convert it just the one time. Now the positive. 1) The ability to stabilize and lock the rack on the hitch is a nice feature. Although the lock on the hitch also falls into the ‘poorly engineered’ category.

I’m fairly sure it will stop working at one point and it’ll be locked onto my vehicle. 2) The bikes are nicely spaced apart. And it’s fairly easy to get in and out of the rear door without taking the bikes off.

Bottom line, if you’re looking for a 4-bike option that you put on your vehicle in the spring and leave it on until the fall, then this is an option for you. However if you’re looking for something that installs easily, can go from 2 to 4 bikes, and doesn’t take 4 hours to put together (counting buying the extra parts) — then keep looking my friends.

At this price point I wish it came with locks for the bike attachments. It does come with a key to lock the hitch though. I wish I had just spent the extra money and bought the XTR but live and learn! I missed that part in the specs when reading up on which rack to buy.

Ooops! However, I do like that the actual hook bit locks vs a cable lock to the frame like the XTR so have ordered the cylinders to make them lock, then will back up with my own heavy duty lock when extra security is needed.

I find it doesn’t stick out very far from the hitch so the wheel holder closest to the car hits the bumper so some people might need a hitch extender if you don’t want it to rub on your bumper. Otherwise, nice and stable, bikes don’t move around at all while driving.

Installation was a 2 person job but fairly straight forward. Attachment into the hitch is so nice and easy, such a great system. Tilt away from car is easy and wonderful. Other than the wheel attachment hitting my bumper, and the non inclusion of more locking cylinders I am happy with this rack.

IšverstiShow in original languageI would recommend this product more but there is only painted metal clips that secure the auto bike carrier to your car. If you value your paint on your car, you must cover the clips with some kind of protective coat.

such as an old bicycle tube rubber cut and glued to the clips with rubber cement. The company says the painted clips will not harm the car’s paint if the carrier is installed properly. Any bump you may hit could transfer weight and move the clips.

As installed the carrier is very stable with one bike. I do not have two bikes to carry in order to know how stable it is to use as advertized. The adjustment fasteners loosened as I put the bike on it.

I bought the bar for female style bikes but didn’t need it because the manufacturer of the bike I had already considered it in their design and it fit easily on the Allen rack. Fastening was easy. The rubber fasteners may crack over time especially if left out in the sun, but were simple and easy to apply.

As I feel that it should have two I ordered a second one directly from Allen.

IšverstiShow in original languagePocket friendly bike rack for regular use. Mounting and unmounting is very easy but I found the buckle of the straps to be little loose. Though we purchased the 2-bike carrier but we prefer to carry one inside and one on the rack for longer distances.

I first bought a bike rack without checking fit list turned out not fitting my car and had to return it,I ended up finding this Hollywood rack online for a better price than most places and better than most other 3 bike racks.

and a fit list that was had a lot more car options on it. Very happy with the purchase. Pretty compact and easy to set up.

Simple setup, and great fit. I would recommend this product to anyone, and would purchase it again.

Although the company literature specified that this rack would fit on our Accord, the plastic clips are too thick to fit into the grooves between the trunk lid and the car body. We returned the rack.

I did not get what I thought I was ordering. I get the Labor Day sale text message and place the order for the Sherpa 2. 0 rack at a great price. The only color color choice on the Mikes Bikes website was grey.

In the picture there were two racks, one with a grey stripe and one with orange stripe. I want the one with grey stripe, so I place the order on a price that was only good for 24 hours. All is good. A few days later, the UPS delivery shows up and on the box it says “grey + orange anodize.

That’s not what I expected I ordered, so I put the box in my car and drive straight to my local Pleasanton Mikes Bikes with my rack in hand. I ask them to simply swap it out for the grey instead of orange.

The guys at Pleasanton were very helpful and did what they could but they didn’t have any others in stock, so they get on the phone with some manager at another location. After about a half hour I was told that the sale price was only for “in stock items” and I can return it for a full refund and order the one I want at full price.

Sale price was $499 and full price is $629 That simply doesn’t sit well with me because someone didn’t describe the product accurately according to Kuat. The correct color choice description should have been: grey metallic with orange anodize, black metallic with grey anodize or pearl metallic with silver anodize.

That’s just poor attention to detail and incredibly misleading to the customer. I told the staff that I would even wait a month or more until they get another delivery for one in the right color. They said that I could not do that with the sale price I got.

What? I could be wrong, but the rack I had in my possession most likely cost Mikes Bikes the exact same price as one they would get on another order. Instead of Mike’s Bikes treating the customer the right way and giving me a chance to get what I thought I was getting they leave a sour taste in my mouth.

Let’s not forget that the website had two racks in the image and the only color choice was grey. I’m sure that I’m not the only customer that assumed they were getting the grey anodize. Nowhere in the description did it mention orange.

I have always had positive experiences with Mikes Bikes over the past 10 years but I will think twice about spending a penny with them moving forward.

There are two significant problems with this rack. The biggest problem is that there is no way to fit two bikes on this rack even with the frame holders spaced as far apart as possible. I don’t have two large bikes either – just two road bikes.

The second significant problem is that fitting small (or extra small) frames on the bars is a challenge. The two bars sticking out from the back on which you mount the bikes are spread too far apart.

It was barely able to fit a Giant Contend SL-small frame over the bars, much less my wife’s extra-small Liv.

I apologize up front for reviewing before I have actually transported bikes. I have been putting off getting a rack for my Prius because I thought they appear difficult to mount and unstable. I put it on quickly, it is solid.

The instructions tell you what setting to use for your car (by year) and it works perfectly for my car. My daughter and I are small and have adult XS and adult S cannondale mountain bikes and at first I thought the arms were too wide to hold them but I was able to place the arm under the lower frame and secure them both easily.

I haven’t tried to put all 3 bikes on but I am super psyched that the rack went on my Prius, fit perfectly and was easy to install. Now if it would just stop raining.

I bought this rack because our ancient 4 bike trunk rack made by an out of business company has walked off. We just bought 2 new Giant Fathom 2 mtbs and thought this rack would be a low cost temporary rack since we’ll be selling this car soon.

Rack is well built, easy to put together, and mount on the car, Toyota Highlander, but with both bikes mounted it’s a squeeze. The spacing between mounts is minimal with road bikes in mind. For MTBs the wide front shocks will rub against the other bike and rub off paint if you don’t cushion them.

I can mount the first bike through the main frame triangle, but there isn’t enough room to do that with the second bike so one mount is through back of the triangle by the seat and the front rests on top of the mount.

It fits securely enough. The anti-sway attachments fit on one bike but is worthless on the second. Also, the front wheel of the first bike on is only 9″ above the ground, so steep driveways or dips in the road are very worrisome.

Tried to solve this by mounting the first bike high like the second but it doesn’t allow mounting the second bike securely. So this will work for now. Wish they had a ‘Depends’ box on the would you recommend to a friend question.

You’ve seen it before, the guy that doesn’t write reviews! That’s me…. This is the exception, and it’s because I’m impressed. I’ve only had this unit a week, used it on local roads and now on the interstate.

Setup initially was easy and use is a little timely but worth it for the security of expense bikes. We are transporting an Ebike and a standard stepthru and hookup works just fine. The rack itself is heavy, but with the use of the attached wheels moving it about the garage to the rear of the vehicle is a breeze.

(Included is a nice cover for storage. ) Plug in the unit before attempting to place it into the hitch and raise or lower the receiver so they align allows easy installation of the rack onto the vehicle.

Beware this is a 7 pin connector to accommodate lighting and power! The rear lighting package is an added safety feature with the extended mass of today’s Ebikes. Note, this rack accommodates tires only up to 3 inches.

Why lift those 50 lbs. + bikes? Save your back and the energy for the ride!.

I picked up my bike rack and asked if it would be difficult to attach to my car. ‘Oh no, not at all – it only takes a few minutes. ‘ In that case, I said, can you please put it on my car for me? ‘no, for that you need an appointment.

‘ But I came specifically from Carpinteria to pick this up. ‘Well, sorry!’ It was an older gentleman and I believe his name was John. He seemed to know everything and was teaching the nice employee how to look up packages, etc.

This was such a disappointment to me. I absolutely love REI and consider myself a very good customer. The rack is still sitting in the garage and I haven’ opened the box yet.

Being a physician who specializes in Geriatrics and cardiometabolic diseases means that preventative medicine and physical activity are two very important aspects of healthy living. I bought this rack 2 months ago so that I could better utilize my e-bike in a safer manner and bring my e-bike to more destinations.

Putting my e-bike on my SUV roof was not an option and disassembling it was becoming tedious. Since I’ve gotten the power rack, I’ve actually planned more travel and trips so that I can use my e-bike.

I’ve enjoyed using it, I especially like the integrated tail-lights and how the unit can swivel down to open and access my tailgate. I have also brought my older e-bike on trips so that friends can accompany me on bike rides.

There were some initial problems with the keys but Saris Customer Service was able to solve them satisfactorily.

The Saris Bones 2 bike carrier is small, lightweight, and foldable for easy storage between uses. It will fit on the back of almost any car of any size with it’s adjustable straps and movable legs. I use it to carry one bike and it does it easily, I’ve never tried loading 2 bikes on so not sure how it would go doing that.

I like the straps that it uses to lock the bikes in, they are easy to do up and undo, and feel like they would last a long time. The lightweight plastic design makes it easy to setup, dismantle, and adjust whilst on the car.

I definitely recommend reading the instructions and also watching YouTube videos to help the first time you set it up, after that it’s a breeze. Readjusting the tension of the straps once the bike or bikes are loaded is definitely an important step whenever you are using this bike carrier.

You will not regret this purchase.

I bought this from Halfords a week ago for a trip to France. Website advised this was a perfect fit for my car. After spending time securely fitting the rack to the car and loading the bikes per instructions we drove off for our trip to France the following morning.

Lasted 5 mins with one of the upper arms failing and shearing off and everything flying off the back of the car. Luckily we were on local roads close to home, not travelling fast and on one was behind us.

Only loaded 2 bikes under the weight threshold. Maybe I was very unluck, but it is mainly plastic and doesn’t seem strong enough. I would advice getting a tow bar and getting a hitch on bike rack like Thule with plenty of strong metal.

Very disappointed as it seemed a well rated product. In France at the mo and will get getting a refund when I’m back in the UK.

This bike rack was perfect for what I needed. I bought a 2008 Subaru Impreza last summer and always struggled to slide my bike into the trunk and had to use a bungee cord strapped to my passenger seat to keep it from falling out when accelerating up a hill.

(I never had this problem with my 1999 VW Golf as I was able to slide my bike into the hatchback completely and close the hatch. ) Finally rolled up my sleeves and installed a hitch and the T1 bike rack on the weekend.

Everything went smoothly for the most part. This bike rack feels remarkably strong, is rugged, and looks like it will maintain good appearance for many years with its thick black coating. Securing my bike was quick and easy.

The rack didn’t wiggle much when I took it for a test drive with the bike attached. I tried sudden panic stops and maneuvers as if to avoid a dangerous pothole and the bike rack held the bike just fine.

My only complaint was steps 4 and 5 in the instructions. For someone such as myself who has never owned or installed a hitch mounted bike rack before, I had trouble figuring out exactly how and where to mount the assembly onto the rotating arm.

There is a label indicating ideal horizontal placement, but nothing for vertical placement. The instructions only have a drawing indicating that you should stay above the THULE label. Well I wasn’t sure how far above, so I left it loose at first, and in trying to figure out the ideal height, the assembly slid down and, without me realizing at first, scraped off half of the T in THULE.

I only noticed once I rotated the arm up. After this, I determined that the ideal height for my car (so that nothing will touch the rear bumper) is to put the assembly as high as possible, flush with the handle.

I have a professional label machine so I can print another label that says THULE, but it was annoying not to have a minimum vertical placement notch in the metal that could have prevented me from scuffing up THULE in the first place.

Almost lost my Mate X bike on the highway! The front tire holder is not deep enough and strong enough to hold a 60lbs fat tire bike!!! Front tire just kept slipping out of the sleeve. After about 15 miles I literally watched my bike flip backwards on the rack in the rear view mirror at 65mph on the highway.

Thought that was it for the bike. Rear wheel strap and the locking cable on the rack prevented the bike from falling off the rack completely, but my fork got scratched pretty badly. Can’t imagine what the driver behind me must have felt at that moment.

Had to stop and readjust the bike 5 times after that during a 100 mile trip and felt like the bike can fall backwards at anytime! If you getting this rack to transport heavy electric fat tire bikes – stay away!.

The rack is easy to assemble and road bike loads easily. Rear wheel attachment is at the very end of the bar and I can see my rear wheel in the side mirror more than I can see the front wheel. it’s just visually off.

I think my wheel base is 45″ and the max is -/+50″ (I think). Easily folds up and down for hatch/trunk access. I have a 2″ hitch so the adapter is necessary but is also secure. Cost is more than other single racks but it’s stable and easy to use – all things considered I’m fine with the price point.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis rack worked out perfectly. We have a 2019 Honda CRV and we carried 4 adult bikes weighing about 135 pounds on a 6 hour car ride from Massachusetts to Maine. Return trip was just as smooth.

With 4 bikes you will not be able to open your rear hatch but otherwise I highly recommend this rack.

IšverstiShow in original languageOverall, good bike rack. I had 4 bikes on it and the lock did give way, collapsing it. Put a solid steel rod with washers and nuts through it for added strength. Folds up for easy wall mount when not in use.
