20 Best Homemade Septic Tank Treatment (2023 Updated)

I had serious issues with my floor drain backing up. I purchased sewer line insurance 8 years ago but am so grateful I’ve never had to use it. Green Pig, cutting down trees over the sewer lateral, using pantyhose to catch lint from the washer.

GreenPig Septic treatment works very well. I first ordered it after having my septic tank cleaned, and noticed that contents in the septic tank were not decomposed as well as they should be. After having my tank cleaned, I started treating with GreenPig.

At first I flushed 4 packets of treatment down the toilet, to treat the septic system. After that I followed up with on treatment packet every four months. When it was time to have the septic system cleaned again, I noticed a huge difference.

The contents of the septic tank were visibly bubbling/fermenting. The top scum layer was much thinner, and the bottom sludge layer was very well decomposed and easy to pump out. The system was operating perfectly as it should.

After seeing that, I was sold on this product, and highly recommend it.

Great value, easy to use. I mark my calendar and every 3 months throw a little packet in, flush, and its done. Anyone with a septic system should use some sort of maintenance in between your tank being pumped.

I live in home that the septic was put in an old dry well back in the 1920’s. In 2005 it had to had new pipes from well to leach field and pumped out. That was the only time it was ever worked on according to the owner.

Now at times I think the problem is with the leach field from what i read. It will run slow in shower and if you flush the toilet you hear a gurgling in the kitchen drain. The only thing that goes in that septic is drain from kitchen, and shower and toilet.

My kitchen sink has been stopped up for over one month! I have done everything! 7 bottles of Drano, follwed by boiling hot water. Baking Soda and Vigerger and list goes on. Just so dreading the call of the PLUMBER!!! I thought I would try this inexpensive, $10.

00 bottle of Septic Shock??? WOW!!! I turned water on and out it went! Cleaned all up and could NOT be happier! I will forever be using this in between also. I poured down the TOLIET. as instructed and it must had been my septic causing the back up in my sink.

How does one evaluate how effective this product might be? I don’t know if it makes a difference in septic tank health or not, but I’ve been using it for many years, (“just in case”) and I can say it’s quick and easy.

Just open the box. empty contents into the commode. flush. Done in less than a minute. No lingering odors, no mess. With sporadic use of this product, our septic tank went over 30 years before needing professional maintenance, which I’m told is some kind of record for longevity.

There are lots of products with similar claims on the market. I checked out Unique’s product based on a video of a side by side test. It actually breaks down solids, not just a perfume to make it smell better.

I watched (kind of gross, I realize) what drained through my sewer hose and was impressed when it was all liquid. Easy to use because it doesn’t require measuring out powders and waiting for it to dissolve.

And it doesn’t take too much product to work so you’re not carrying a lot of extra bottles on the road.

I used Septic Field Rejuvenator on the septic system when we moved onto the land we reside on. I recently ordered the Septic System Digestor to begin monthly treatments. The product is easy to use and it works.

I have used RV Digestor for years in our HR Presidential 5th Wheel and it is outstanding. I feel like Unique offers the three prong approach for us full-timers. Thanks for good products.

Have used this product in three different septic systems in three very different climates. All I can say is I have not had any problems in any of the locations. I am assuming the products work but will know more since I am going to have one uncovered and pumped out.

Great product, lousy delivery ! I recommend purchasing this product to keep your septic system in good shape. I have relied on it for years and it saves me lots of money over the name-brand boxed alternative.

But I DON’T recommend ORDERING it. My bottle’s lid was loose, with no inner seal, and about an eighth of a cup of product had seeped out into the sealed bag containing the bottle. In the photo, you can see how it had seeped underneath the label (in the red area, it is visible here).

Terrible product. I got it to save money and for the first time in the 15 years I have lived here my toilet clogged up. Never happened with Rid X.

Roto Rooter Septic System Treatment, 8 doses, does the job at a fraction of the cost. I was using the high priced brand at $6. 00 a month. Roto Rooter does the same job at $1. 50 a month. I’m very pleased with it.

My husband and I are full time Rv’ers and this is the best product we have found we will never be home without it. First time my husband dumped our black tank he was in amazement on how well it broke down everything and cleaned out the tank.

We got this on the advise of our nieghbor-who is much more septic savvy than we are. Have a VERY old septic/leach field. Has stayed in balance for decades-but had a big ta-doo at the house last fall-which probably overloaded it with all sorts of unfamiliar’s.

We ended up having to have it pumped, added your SS-digester-as recommended-and are keeping our fingers crossed. So far-so good. Nice to have a local product-and the price was comparable to other digesters on the market.

We’ll keep ya posted. It has been a month-ceptic tank is functioning so far. but we are also very VERY conservative with water-and try not to use chemicals.

Roebic laboratories makes amazing products. I used the Septic System Cleaner emergency care for clogged or sluggish systems (leach field) and it was a miracle worker. My leach field was completely clogged and not draining because of the bio-mat layer (sludge from oils,grease,and fats).

This product restored it to normal flow within a fairly short time and saved me a huge repair bill. I uncovered the D box (distribution box) and poured it directly in to have a stronger effect on breaking down the bio-mat layer.

Works very well kills rhodents that are inside your septic tank. Should make sure the pipes are not clogged before use.

Had to have our septic tank pumped and was told to start treating it to prevent further problems. Chose Roebic over another brand because it recommends less treatments needed than with the other. Twice a year beats once a month.

I have been using this product for over one year now. I had used a similar product in the past, and, the last time I had my system pumped, I was told that it could have been better. I am only giving this 4 stars because I have not had my system pumped yet (only 2 people in house, so done every two years).

I will say that the product “bag” dissolves more quickly and the powder flushed more completely than the other product I used. The final decision will be when I get the system pumped the next time, but it should be fine.

Easy to use…just put into toilet and flush. No need to clean afterwards. Bugs for your septic tank…because you want it to be happy. And unhappy septic tank means $$$$ going out to fix it.

I would use one scoop a week and never had a septic tank problem. The I couldn’t find it where I normally bought it. About 10 years later I had to have my tank pumped. I actually forgot what the name of the stuff was til just now when I looked for septic tank treatments.

Tri Zyme does what it says and is the only treatment I’ll use.

I have been using this product for about 4 years and really recommend it. It is made in the Northwest and is so much safer than some of the other products on the market. To sum it up it is just good stuff !.

Ridx does not do what it says it does I have a thousand gallon tank. It should take 4-6 years fir a family if 4 to fill up a 1000 gallon tank. I was alone for the first 1. 5 years. Then there was 3 people.

I have only lived in this house a total of 2. 8years now. I have used ridx regularly. Yesterday 4/1/22 I had a septic tank msn come out to check my tank. Mind you it was installed new when I bought the house.

He was shocked when he removed the cover yo gong the tank was full. It has to be pumped out. I trusted your product and it didn’t do its job. I feel your company should reimburse me for the cost of having the tank pumped out as well as reimbursing me for the boxes of ridx I purchased and trusted to do the job it was mentioned to do snd didn’t.

We had two boxes under sink We started seeing little bugs appear in bathroom. Thought they were coming from vent fan or attic. Turns out they were coming from the Rid-X boxes. Flushed the one box and put the other in a plastic bag.

Next day they were crawling around inside the bag. After googling, Rid-X attracts these bugs. Need to be stored in garage or container. Good to know, thanks Rid-X. Won’t be using it again. If I need to I certainly won’t store it.

Courtesy of some “creative” plumbers who failed to notice the correct manhole for my sewerage connection, they master drain almost circles the house and runs nearly 300 feet to the central system. As a result, waste can build up in the lower part of the pipe cross-section.

To prevent this, I use the Rid-X each month with two flushes form the furthest commode. It keeps the drainage working well and has done so for 20 years. If I skip a few months, the difference is noticeable.

I’ve been using this for the past 6 months or so. We have a septic and last year had it cleaned out. It had barely any water and guy was concerned about lines being clogged. We noticed the toilet not clogging and not flushing well.

I have been using another brand of septic treatment, but wanted to give this one a try since it mentioned it was pro-strength. When it arrived I read the info in the package on how to use. It included 3 self contained packs in a resealable plastic bag.

The book stated to use 1 per month. I was surprised to see the individual biodegradable package the stuff was in seemed more like a plastic wrap than the other stuff I had used, which looked more like a gel pack coating.

I just threw it in and flushed. It did not fuzz up like the other stuff and went down on the first flush. It was very easy to use. When I read the package it also said it was all natural and could be used in a compost pile.

As a gardener, I would not have thought of that. So far everything is fine and this was very easy to use. The info said this was concentrated and included millions of bacteria. Hopefully it will keep the tank happy and broken down.

This on one of those septic tank products that you just flush down the toilet. Some people and government agencies say not to waste your money on any of these products. I have a summer place. It is busy from May through October.

10 weeks are usually rented with up to 8 people at a time. I have been putting one down when I arrive in May and another when I leave in early June and in Oct. In 14 years I have had it pumped twice and it was perfect.

I tried this product vs. the Rid-X for the first time. I was very disappointed as it just did not clean as well.

You will have to measure using another method in order to get 5 equal amounts. The markings on the box does not work. I suggest that the manufacturer add a measuring cup inside the box instead of giving false measurements on the outside.

I u se RID-X septic treatment all time for the septic. It works well. My problem is with the wording on the box. Five month supply of powder. I thought there would be five individual bags of the septic treatment.

The powder version of RidX seems to work better than the liquid. After using liquid RidX I heard a bubbling in toilet. After I use the powder RidX I don’t hear the bubbling in toilet. House is in historic district, very old and needs strong products always.

Item was as described, very easy to use, it’s the first time I had used the liquid as opposed to the powder, much easier to use and not messy at all. Seller did a terrific job with packing, they even taped the lid closed so it couldn’t turn or leak during shipment, very conscientious which I greatly appreciate.
