20 Best Homemade Bait For Catfish (2023 Updated)

Campfire was hot and the shots were lots and to my surprise i woke up with the taste of this bait plastered over every tastebud in my mouth. Even washing my mouth with everclear was not match. Absolutely heinous taste, would not recommend as a snack.

Works great for catfish though.

This stuff is the best. We never fail to pull in a bunch. We are never disappointed.

So far I’ve used it 3 times and each time in light creek current it’s washed off. I’ve followed the directions exactly as described. I’m going to try again in a week or so by putting the remainder in pantyhose and use it for chum rather than actual bait.

I think it’s a good channel cat bait & maybe small blues but I’m highly doubtful you’ll catch anything bigger than a few pounds.

20 years ago I used to use a punch bait and catch fish 10 to 1 over everyone else fishing next to me. I can’t find that stuff anymore but this Danny King’s smells just like it and fish hit it more than anything else we put out.

It’s the real deal.

I’ve used it for years with great results. The reviews you read that run it down are probably Yankees that just don’t know how to fish. This is my favorite bait. Just have to be a little smarter than what you are messing with to be successful in whatever you are doing.

Used this for the first time up in Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago with a lot of success. Get back to Texas and placed an order for Cheese, Blood and Shad. Went out this morning with the Cheese and I’m not sure what that mixture was but it was not a dip.

I mixed it for several minutes but no success. It would not stick to anything. Brought it home, mixed with some cooking oil and now its baking in the sun. I checked the Blood and Shad and those have dip consistency.

We’ll wait and see what happens with the Cheese but tonight when I go back out, we’ll give Blood a try. Hoping the Cheese thins out and finds its stickiness. Wisconsin cats love the Cheese. unfortunately the Texas cats didn’t get to sample it earlier today.

I was a total skeptic in the beginning not going to lie, but this stuff works great! This bait is self-chumming and you will have to re-bait every 15 to 25 minutes. If there are any catfish in the area they will come and get it.

Some will fall off when you cast, but this isn’t a “lets see how far I can cast it” type of bait. I used it on a #4 treble hook with a sponge I cut out from home, but it worked better when combined with a tube and the #4 hook with sponge.

If you’re not catching anything then you’re not on the fish. Move and re-cast until you do get a hit. In one spot within 15 minutes I had my first bite and within the hour I had 5 cats. Had to re position after 30 minutes of no bites.

Once I got to another spot, again within 30 minutes I already had 3 cats in the boat and had caught enough for dinner.

I was an avid chicken liver fan for many years. I tried this bait and it repeatedly out fished chicken liver. I am a fan! Using the rubber worms, it stays on the hook well and it catches cats! Hands down the best cat bait I have found.

Absolutely won’t go fishing without it ! I am a fish aholic that’s all I do on my time of ! I’ve caught a lot of big bass using the classic bass! It truly is the best I’ve ever used ! If ur not getting a bite ,freshen ur lure or worm up ! Almost guaranteed a bite next cast ! Walmart sells out within a couple days it remarkable !.

I really like the Baitmate scent products! I use them regularly for bottom fishing and flats fishing. I usually put it on cut bait. A little goes a long way. Snapper, grouper, etc. can’t resist, and I love the increase in the strikes! Have more fun on the water, and tight lines!.

Tried it the other morning for 1st time. Squirts out nice and thick, sticking well to bait. Hard to avoid squirting some on bottle itself though while using. Didn’t catch a catfish that day, but too soon to rate product.

I’ll give it another try next outing.

I don’t like how the bait springs have no grip of the hooks, but I found a simple solution to the problem. All you have to do is slightly pull apart the end of the spring that would normally be next to the eye of the hook and thread it through the eye then twist it just until it’s closed again.

The springs on the hook to hold the bait falls right off the hook which makes them easy to lose. The hooks appear to be sharp. The delivery time is very slow. Oh but, the plastic of the package seemed to be of good quality as was the paper of the label.

This stuff will just fall right off the hook if the stream/river is moving water. Washes off in like 10 ten seconds. I have also tested this in a dam where it holds on better BUT will fall off in about 2 – 5 minutes of being in the water.

It seems to bring the fish nearby when you use it but they don’t got enough time to even take your bait. Also, the jar isn’t like the picture for how full they show it. It’s only half as full and smells very bad.

Just started using the dip bait with good results, the dough bait has been around for years and is the go too when nothing else works.

The website was easy and it was nice to find the bait but one of my bait arrived it is nothing like it is supposed to be in the bait is so old that it is no good anymore it is separated and nasty and basically just throw it in the trash.

This stuff has been around forever. I finally decided to give it a try and it has not failed to produce fish. You are not going to catch 20lb fish with this but will attract a lot of 5lb or smaller eating size channels.

You can make cheap bait hooks buy superglueing small squares of course sponge to your favorite hook and really craming it in. Even if I’m fishing differen bait I always bring Charlie’s. It smells like death though.

First time ever having luck on fake catfish bait. One after another below a raging dam on the flambeau. Came here looking to buy more. Hope theres a tub of it you can buy, cause 1 bag wasnt enough for me.

I am an Academy outdoors employee. I have use it several times on treble hooks made for catfish dough and it works great! I throw it out with a little weight and a bell on the end of the rod. Sit and wait and catch cats!.

I’ve bought these several times in the past, but they have gone to thinner leaders – it can’t be more than 6 lb mono. Not a biggie if you’re getting smaller fish and ok with it, but once you get into a catfish above 3 lb you’re running the risk of that leader snapping.

I broke off two setting hooks (they are nice and sharp). I re-threaded them with 30 lb mono for leader and didn’t have any issues after that.

I switched to dip bait from cheese baits about 3 years ago and have had very good luck with these worms. The hooks are very sharp and I have had no problems with the provided leader line breaking on catfish up to 30 pounds.

The bait stays inside the ridges of the worm very good in still water or slow current.

Received this in the mail on 8-18-22 upon opening the box I found the product in a clear container with no label and wrapped in a plastic bag, the contents in the container was melted to a liquid and leaking from the bag getting all over the other things that were in the box.

After getting everything out of the box and cleaned up it was discovered that the lid on the container wasn’t screwed down ( was this done on purpose??) and only about a 1/4 of the bait remaining due to it leaking out everywhere.

This ended up being a total waste of money and a big stinky mess. The thing that bothers me the most is I’m still not sure what was even in the tub , why no label ?? And the fact that the lid wasn’t screwed on like it should have been.

I’ve never seen a stink bait liquified like this stuff was and I use a lot of different stink baits in the summertime,,, Very disappointed….

i’ve used a lot of it and it used to be real good dip bait for channels, I could go thru a container every 2-3 weeks. but it’s been totally ruined. the color originally was a real light tan, now it’s a dark crappy color and looks to be about 40% of some kind of grain, has a weird smell and gets real runny in the least little bit of a warm day.

I sure won’t be buying anymore and will not recommend it to the serious catfish hunters. DEFINITELY not the same original bait formula. save your money.

I live in Northern Oklahoma and the last few years for fishing hasn’t been to awesome for us. I saw the Premo Blood online with awesome reviews so i bought it at walmart and hit the river. Not even 5 mins after my first cast i reeled in a nice blue.

We had bites left and right and reeled in 8 cats in that time. Definitely recommend to anyone! Going back out first thing in the morning.

I use dip bait for my community pond cat fishing where they stock catfish every two weeks. Last 3 years I was using Premo blood dip bait. After watching youtube video I ordered 1 tub from walmart. com it was bright yellow creamy color.

In my first day, I caught 10 good size catfish in 1 hour. Another day I caught about 14 fish in one and half hour. I thought, I got my magic bait and will not use any catfish bait other than secret 7 in future.

I ordered another one from walmart. com. This time the bait was dark yellow color. Bait consistency is the same as the first tub. But when I want for fishing there is NO bite. I use 3 pole for fishing with my kids.

With the first tub I took off 2 pole since bite was so frequent, i couldn’t keep up. But with the second tub, there is not bite on any of those 3 poles in the same spot. Then I change one of the pole with my leftover premo bait and keep two pole with secret7.

With premo bait I cought 4 fish in one hour. I rebate every 20 min when fishing. I think there is a serious quality control issue in the production line. I love the bait when it works but i was very disappointed with the second tub.

Do not buy this product!!! I purchased this because they did not have Sudden Impact which is amazing. I was informed that the Sudden Impact was only available online. Anyways, I figured since the Team Catfish made this as well, it should be good.

Boy was I wrong. this stuff is junk. It is slimy and does not stick on anything other than your fingers. I used the Furry treble, the furry circle hooks, I used the red dip tubes, all recommended on the bucket, heck I even used a hog wild dip worm bait holder, thinking i could load it inside the mesh.

I could not get the stuff to stay on the hook long enough to catch anything. If it did not come off the hook as it flew threw the air, It would come off the hook as soon as it hit the water. God forbid you don’t cast in the right spot, because if you have to reel it in you have to rebait.

I fished for 2 days with this exclusively and did not catch a thing. I had a few nibbles, but they would not hold on to the bait long enough to set the hook. Oh and if you did get a bite. the bait would come off the hook.

That last one is a assumption, because when i did get a nibble, it would be once and then nothing again. Do not buy this, save yourself the money. Buy Sudden Impact, you don’t need special gimmicky hooks that are worthless, and unlike the secret-7, it actually works.

For starters this is an unsolicited review. I fished the Coosa Lock And Dam for 6 years trying a multitude of baits. I was told about Secret 7 and the Team Catfish tube holders so I tried it last weekend.

I caught 5 catfish and a Carp and lost 3-4 other. As the video states the bait does come off however the fish find the tube. The video also states that you don’t get any of the bait on your hands however after time you will get a little.

It’s easy to use, I picked up a stick and used that to mash the bait onto and into the holes of the tube. I will never go back to the days of tying liver in panty hose again. I highly recommend this bait and the Team Catfish tube holders.

These are great catfish worms, I have bought other worms and the problem with them is the lines are always to short for the rig that i tie. the Charlie worms have just the right amount of line. I have fished catfish for over forty years and these are by the far the best worms.

Even if you can not get the worm out of the fish, it is still long enought after you cut it to be able to reuse it.

I used these hooks with great results all last summer. The only problem I had was the line that came with the hooks. They would get tangled up all the time. My fix was to get rid of the line and install my own steel leaders.

With the steel leaders they are also better to remove from the fish.

I love these worms but I hate the hooks. I usually take the treble hook and use my own. I wish i could buy just the worms and skip the hooks.

I did some research on using punch bait before coming across CJ’s punch bait. I watched some YouTube videos of CJ out with his family using his own product and catching fish after fish. I bought the catfish crawdads bait to try and I love the stuff.

I never had much luck with any other bait and at one point decided maybe the river didn’t have any fish in it. I’ve caught many small channel cats and today caught a nice 5 pound blue. Rarely do I ever have to rebait the hook without getting a bite.

I use to fish with more than one rod but found that I catch more fish with this bait when I hold the rod and can set the hook on the first tug. If your thinking about trying this bait you should go ahead and give it a shot.

I can’t wait to try the other baits CJ’S has available.

It have bought and used wild hopper, monster and minnow in both 14oz & 45oz containers. The three 45s weighed 39oz each or less. The 14oz weighed 10oz. Just don’t enjoy getting jipped. It’s a shame since Cjs makes great baits.

Academy or CJs is aware of the problem as they blacked out the weight on the 45s. Only way to get around this would be to carry along my digital scale to the store. I will continue buying bait, only from Sure Shot.

I took into consideration the empty pail weight.

The bait works, after the bait scent gets into the water and down stream. You start getting bites. I fish fast current canals, so this scent travels. I used a little looser di beforep, so I wanted to try out something a little thicker.

This met my needs and actually is on the lure still after 15 mins in fast current. Any stink bait by Magic Bait is good, I just prefer this simple process. Apply, cast and catch!!.

I was going to bad mouth this bait intill a freak accident happend my wieghts broke off and the tube with hook was floating in the middle of the river a catfish about 12-14 pounds jump at the bait. Am guessing the bait sound has well has where am fishing i must have been using the wrong rig/jig.

This bait dose work now 10 catfish cuaght after changing set up and about a 1 week learning curve. Sorry new to fishing but bait dose an amazing job just get pointers if your not catching with it.

Recently started using dip baits along side chicken livers. This bait is the only I’ve found to even come close to chicken livers. One tip is to make sure you use a hook with some type of material to really hold the bait on the hook.

Otherwise it falls off easily. Let it soak for 15-30 seconds in water before casting and you’re set! I’ve only used the original version and found it to work well. On hot nights, bring a small container of ice to sit this in or it can sometimes become too thin.

Would have given this a 5 star but it didn’t meet the success of chicken livers, which is my benchmark for performance (high bar to beat!). Works well with channels and bullheads (sadly).
