20 Best Home Lumbar Traction Device (2023 Updated)

It really seems to be a very simple concept. Stretch the back and allow it to relax. I was having lower back problems and gimping around my yard when my neighbor told me about this. He loaned me his.

I used it one time for about 5 mins – and – my back was in shape again. Now – mind you this is a temporary fix. I ordered this on line and now I use it once or twice a day. I really should be more “religious” about it though.

Because when I use it – I feel remarkably better. My theory is – – If used consistently – it will eventually fix my back. Not scientific – but sounds logical.

This is the second TrueBack stretcher that I have. The first was a gift/loan. One SHOULD/MUST use this both carefully and with ‘medical advice”, whether you consult a chiropractor, osteopath, physical therapist, or some other spine oriented professional who is familiar with the architecture of YOUR back.

I say this because you can reap great benefit and also potentially hurt yourself worse, depending on how you mount this device, stretch your back, and dismount from this device. Having wrestled with back problems for over 50 years, I HAVE indeed been helped by occasionally using this device.

HOWEVER, I STRONGLY suggest that without correct application and use of this tool (like so many things in life), you can potentially make your condition worse. All that caveat aside, it has helped me gain temporary relief about 20 times over the last 10 years during which I owned the first unit I received.

This second one is going to be a loaner for friends and family. BUT, BE CAREFUL to abide by what your back professional advises you to do with this device.

I like this back adjuster. My BIL likes it. My kids have mixed feelings. I prefer a chiropractor, but this helps so I don’t feel like I need to go as often. (I typically go less than once a month.)

I really do enjoy this back archer. It might look like it could be painful,but it’s really not. It feels so good,like a personal message. There was a slight delivery issue,sure due to covid(I’ve ordered from here,a lot,always comes,very fast,days).

But,they worked everything out with me. I recommend this item,more importantly,this company. I can count on them.

My name is Doc. I am a retired doctor of chiropractic. Are used to use a back to life machine which no longer exists. I was forced to seek out another alternative as I have severe low back problems. I called HSN and asked if they had anything and they turned me onto this Teeter P2 unit.

Because I am old and have problems with my low neck and shoulders I question whether I would be able to use this. I’ve been using it now for two weeks and it works fabulously. I read a couple reviews of people that said it hurt them and I can only say that they were probably in severe pain before and or they’re pushing too hard.

It doesn’t take an off a lot to feel that low back begin to decompress. I highly recommend this unit. It’s easy to use and for a 70-year-old With a lot of health issues I’m having no difficulty with it at all.

Wonderful product. And it works. And personally I like it a lot better than the update upside down inversion table I’ll because it requires no space. The real estate is very small. Thank you very much Teeter.

I purchased this item and received it a couple of weeks ago but until tonite I had not taken it out of the box. I have a Teeter inversion table which I love but I will be traveling to Las Vegas to play in a golf tournament and I cannot take the Teeter Inversion table with me, unfortunately.

So because I have two discs that are narrowing, I have to have something while in Las Vegas to stretch my back. So tonite I got on the floor and placed my legs on the couch and used the P2. Well after doing it several times, I got up and found that my back actually felt better.

I played golf today and my back was tight and sore. Not anymore. To be honest with you, I really didn’t think this thing would work but after using it only once, I can tell you, it works. My wife also used it and she agreed that it does make her back feel better also.

The P2 will be traveling to Las Vegas with me so I can play 4 straight days of golf. Need I say more?.

I have been using the P2 for about a month and am completely happy with it. I wanted to get an inversion table but decided against it because I get headaches instantly when my head is upside down. While looking for an alternative to inversion I found the P2.

I use it twice a day for a few minutes and get a good pop in my back most of the time. The only possible negatives I see are the knee support isn’t adjustable so may not work for shorter people. I am 5’11” and it fits me perfectly.

My wife is 5’7” and she can still use it but any shorter could be a problem. The other thing is I suspect it would take a week or two to get a good pop if you don’t get regular chiropractic. I do and got a good pop and stretch the first use, but my wife doesn’t and just felt a little stretch on the first few uses.

Overall a very good alternative to inversion.

I have a bad lower back L3 4 & 5 and purchase the lumbar traction machine to help me be able to move enough to do my stretching exercises. My problem is I have arthritis at 67 and so it’s difficult for me, a single woman, to be able to get this piece of equipment situated and tightened by myself.

It does work but it takes me awhile to be able to get it all strapped around my torso. My hands are not strong, so if you don’t have strong wrists and joints in your fingers, you may have a similar problem.

Of course if you have help that’s a plus. I would rate this 4 stars out of 5 only because it’s difficult for me to use by myself. It does work though. You also have to have a certain amount of strength to be able to set the pressure to approximately half of your body weight period my physical therapist told me that’s generally how they set them up in the clinic.

You would likely start more gradually though.

The unit was in good condition upon arrival. All parts functional. The issue I have is with the belt cinch technique. The belts are not secured and slip freely, making it difficult to tighten as snugly as I desire.

Using the unit unattended makes the tightening process a challenge. This could be a problem for someone with severe symptoms, requiring an assistant to adequately tighten the belts. I used the unit several times on a bed, but will use the floor in the future because it allows more room to freely extend one’s torso.

The stretcher works OK, but the tension belts tend to slip, no matter how tight I pull the straps. I am using the belts as directed on bare skin. I am not overweight. My hips may not protrude enough to stop the belt easily.

At any rate, it does help put tension on my back and relieve pain. It takes up less space than the gravity type tensioners.

I have lower back pain. I bought this to use between chiropractor appointments. I have tried using it while laying on the floor. It works reasonable well. I get more benefits if I lay on the floor at the base of my couch and put my lower legs on the seat of my couch.

My knees are at a 90 degree angle as I use this device. Use light force at first and gradually apply/reduce force. You may not feel much of a stretch at first, but it definitely stretches. You’ll feel it later.

In theory, this should work well and be easy to use: lie down on your back, bend your knees, put the device’s pads at the junction of your thighs and torso, and push horizontally. Pushing the upper thighs away from the torso should force the pelvis in the same direction, which, in turn, should stretch the spine and muscles of the back.

In practice, although it is super-easy to use, it doesn’t quite work: the pads don’t push in quite the right direction, and before any stretch is felt, the pads slip towards the knees when the device is horizontal or pointing slightly upwards; if pointed downwards, they cut into the skin but don’t move the legs or pelvis at all.

The instructions, particularly, the online videos, are very clear as to how to use the device and what “not” to do; but things just don’t work out that way. When used for one of the alternative stretches (crossing an ankle over the other knee and pushing on the leg that’s now sideways to the body), it does produce a noticeable stretch in the hip joint, and, as the video cautions, should not be done too strongly.

The device is well-constructed, high quality, small, and is tied for the easiest-to-use back-stretcher I’ve ever tried (can’t use an inversion table, so don’t know how easy that would be). But, as mentioned earlier, it does not actually produce a stretch.

“Is it a good value?” Anything that works is a great value for people with lower-back pain. Since this doesn’t seem to work, it isn’t a good value. However, I’m very happy to have paid only about $17 instead of the retail price of $50.

I continue to try using it each day, hoping something good will happen, but the other devices I use to stretch the spine are effective, and one of them, an 18″ foam roller, definitely works, costs even less, and is just as easy to use.

I have been using this device for two weeks and it has provided amazing relief of my lower back pain. I had been struggling with pain for about a year. The instructions indicate it might take up to three weeks to see and feel results, but mine occurred sooner.

Be sure to watch the video for additional stretching exercises that can be performed (also on YouTube). Once I added those additional stretches, I had amazing results. When you couple the purchase price with a 20% discount coupon, this was well worth the risk of purchase for amazing results for me.

As the instructions state, it may not work for everyone, depending on the cause of the pain, but the decompression results are amazing when used long term. I felt immediate reaction from the nerves in my spine after the first use.

The longer you use this product and perform the exercises, the better results you will get. A complete stretching session can be done in 10 to 15 minutes or less a day. I do mine at the end of the day after sitting at a desk all day.

This product is worth a try for everyone. My daughter, who does not have back pain, uses the product and the stretching exercises and she has reported feeling great from using the product. It is amazing what decompression of the spine can do for you whether you have pain or not.

This is excellent for folks suffering from compressed discs in the cervical area. Easy and simple to use. Very effective!

I’ve noticed a distinct difference in my daily neck pain and stiffness. Helpful and easy to use; not super comfortable, but very tolerable.

The concept is good. I can imagine this would work well for some people. I guess it just depends on the individual person. For me. this is pretty useless. The point to me would be that you would be able to relax your spine so that the traction can really work.

But since you are pushing down with your arms, your upper back tenses up. I have tried it several different times. I just don’t see the benefit. It feels like something is pushing against your upper thighs and you are bearing down with your arms and upper back.

That’s about it. You can feel a slight stretch in your low back, but not enough to get any real benefit because your whole upper back is tense. Doesn’t make sense.

I was having low back pain for over a year and it was just getting worse. I had x-rays and the doctor told me there was nothing wrong with my spine and to buy a new mattress. The pain persisted. It was very difficult to get up out of bed or out of a sitting position.

I tried PT, stretching, wearing a lower back brace, exercise, no exercise, etc. Nothing helped. I saw this product and decided to give it a try. When I used it for the very first time, I felt my lower spine separate and something popped into place.

I was overjoyed. My pain when getting up was reduced by 80%! I still have a dull ache but it’s getting better every day. I use the product about every 4 days now, to make sure my lower spine stays supple.

I found the product to be well made and it inflates and functions as it supposed to. There can be many reasons for back pain and I’m not saying it wont help you, but it is useless for me. My back pain is in my lower back, the belt goes around your waist and middle back.

If you try to put it lower and then tighten it, it cannot tighten properly because of the anatomy of the body, your hip bones are in the way. This is the same thing as the Dr. Ho belt, which sounds wonderful on the tv commercials, which is why I bought it, but it just doesn’t work.

At all. I don’t recommend it, especially if your pain is in the lower back.

This is a very solid option for a lumbar back brace. The hospital will send you home from lumbar surgery with a monsterously large back brace that immobolizes your back but offers just so-so actual support.

I tried a slim version of the hospital brace that I liked better. I like this brace better than the 2 expensive braces. However, I interchange wearing this brace with a $30 CopperFit back brace that looks invisible under my shirt.

Anyone who suffers from Spinal Stenosis with bulging discs knows the debilitating pain that comes with it. After inflating the belt for the first time I felt a near immediate relief of pain. This belt has changed my life, I wear it for 20-30 minutes after waking up and I’m pain free for a large part of the day providing I don’t twist or turn the wrong way.

best investment I’ve made in a long time. After using it for a few weeks I was pleased to find that the pump and belt are of a very good quality and both are very easy to use. I’m now thinking of looking into something similar for my neck.

I’ve use this product for about a week. I absolutely love it! My back feels much better.

I think the product is fine but there were no instructions on how to use it properly. So I do not want to use it until I can figure out a way to use it without damaging my lower back.

I just received it today on time in perfect condition. Im dealing with a really bad flare up of sciatic nerve pain going down my leg. I put this on with the extension belt, clipped on the hand pump easy to use and to deflate.

I can finally sit down with no spasms in my leg. I do feel a difference overall. Its not going to cure anything but it will definitely help you in some way. As far as your posture and it will restrict your movements as well as take pressure off your lower back.

I have a decompression table at home, it’s great but takes up so much space. This belt is a great option and takes so little space. I can wear it under my shirt to have relief on the go. Good quality material so I hope that it should last a long time.

All I can say is this product works for the lower back pain and sciatica pain issues. I tried all types of Youtube stretches which gave me short term relief but this product does the relief. Thank you for your time and I hope you get better with Back Decompression Belt !.

This is my first time trying the Dr. Hos Pain Relief Belt. I wasnt sure what to expect, but have seen the tv infomercial a few times and have been looking for a cheaper used version, when I came across it here.

I got a great deal, and was prepared to have a used Belt, but this arrived brand new in the box! A wonderful surprise! The belt itself does take some practice. In order to really get the most out of it, the most decompression of the lumbar vertebrae, the Belt has to be terribly tight first.

Then, when I inflate the belt itself to achieve that decompression, sometimes the handheld pump starts to leak out that precious air either during pumping or during removal of the pump. However, with more practice 8 have gotten a little better at this part.

If I get the belt tight enough in the beginning, and master the pump usage, the belt DOES provide the decompression it describes on the box and in the infomercial. It takes practice, though, and some patience.

But after several surgeries and years of back pain, its worth the effort! I give the belt a thumbs up for providing back pain relief, sciatica Relief, and would suggest it to others. Just be ready to have a learning curve to get the most out of it.

First this is not easy to get on by yourself esp. with back pain. Second the belt pumps up creating a tightness that I imagine will compress the spine with the idea that maybe the muscles along the spine will be elongated or stretched- I felt no difference after 2 months of continued use.

And finally customer service was not helpful. I was told that medicare would help with the fee, I gave the information to the customer service woman and as I finished with my information she said I was not eligible.

I can’t image how she processed my information so quickly other than to just blatantly deny skipping the work of what may assisted me financially. We are all desperate for back relief but I feel this company takes advantage.

Sorry – this does not work. If you do buy, make sure you return if you are not satisfied. I wish I had.

I have been using the belt for the last 3 weeks. Using for 1 hour in the morning. The relief is amazing, am lasting the whole day without severe pain. I have not needed my narcotic based pain relief,, just Panadol Ostio.

An amazing and easy to use product. Well made, complete and helpful instructions. Would recommend to anyone experiencing severe back pain.

IšverstiShow in original languageVery good unit. For the record, I have spinal injuries from the military and was in a severe auto accident two years ago, whereby, we were hit from behind at more than 50 MPH.

In that accident, I received three herniated disks, one protrusion and some cervical injuries. After going thru the usual medical treatment for 18 months with no real good outlook for pain, I tried this unit.

At first it was a bit strange, getting on and off and actually using it. My only complaint, is that the adjustment handle should be adjustable for different arm lengths. I’m 5’10” 170 LBS and for me the arm lever is a bit of a challenge.

Overall, I use it daily for about 20 minutes and almost immediately, I got relief from pain on both sides. My injuries are on L2, L3, L4 & L5 in addition to my cervical areas. I use the head band about twice per week also.

I was advised against spinal surgeries from three different doctors and since I’m not a person to take a lot of meds, so far, it has made my life better. In addition, to my injuries, the car accident has made my issues with “facet” pain much worse and has elevated my arthritic spinal issues.

However, this machine has made my daily life less painful! I intend to keep up my daily routine with this machine. Also, I wish it were available with about a 12″ stand instead of laying on the floor.

But, with everything, there are tradeoffs and my results have been positive!!!.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis home machine is the best alternative to those upside down gravity traction devices that most people can not use effectively. On this machine you just lie flat and easily adjust the necessary traction to what you want.

This is the home version of the very expensive back therapy machines in physiotherapy clinics. They are great IF you can afford thousands of dollars in treatments each time you need it. This machine is a very good approximation for a couple of hundred dollars and will last a lifetime while being convenient any time you want to use it.

I have had mine about a month and will use it the rest of my life as needed.

I have finally been able to rid of my chronic lower back pain using this physical therapy machine only a few times! The Homedics Lumbar Lift Lower Back Stretcher & Massager is a quality-built product that’s probably a hit or miss depending on your needs/preference. I’ve been using it for a couple weeks now and it does help a bit with pain reduction while in use, but not much overall impact.

The vibration was sufficient to give you a numbing sensation over a long period of use. The lifting feature was a nice touch and did feel as if it was trying to give you a bit of a stretch, but I think massager still lacks power overall.

Probably the best feature was the heat function. I found heat setting one and two to be very comfortable, but heat level three to be unbearably hot for me (I was wearing a tee-shirt and polo shirt); your mileage may vary but I certainly won’t be using level three ever again.

I like that this massager is small, relatively light, and very portable, however it would be nice if it came with some kind of attachable/detachable straps if you’re opting to use it while sitting in a chair.

This obviously works better while lying down, but I can’t work while lying down. I feel that this Lumbar Lift/Lower Back Stretcher & Massager was a bit lackluster. Perhaps if it was a bit more robust, it could provide a longer impact.

It certainly helps a bit while in use by asserting a temporarily numbing sensation, but not much of a difference over all in address pain.

The HoMedics Lumbar Lift Lower Back Stretcher & Massager does a good job of loosening up tense muscles, and increasing flexibility. The adjustable vibration and heat provided by the device is soothing and relaxing.

I find that the back stretcher works best while lying down on a hard surface. This sturdy machine is well designed, compact, portable, and lightweight. It is easy to use and comes with a hand controller.

An uncomplicated quick-start guide is also provided. This is another convenient quality product by HoMedics, that I recommend for anyone who is looking for something to help aid with lower back aches and pains, soreness, and stiffness.

I recently got my new Homedics Lumbar Lift Back Stretcher and this thing is AMAZING! As a person who regularly suffers from a lot of back pain and discomfort i was skeptical to say the least. I read over the easy to understand instructions and various settings it offered and had it going in no time at all.

The adjustable heat setting allows you to select your preferred temperature range that you feel comfortable with. With the manual setting you can easily select the intensity level and massage pattern you like and just lay back or you can select from 2 auto preset stretch and massage patterns which work great for me.

The air lift operation expands the massager pressing it into your back offering a more intense process. My back was feeling much better even after just the first use. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing a really good quality personal massager.

This rig was introduced to me by my PT. I tried it there, but was still having neck pain doing exercises. A neurosurgeon suggested that I get one for home, so I did. It has changed my life. My neck pain is receding and my headaches are decreasing.
