20 Best Home Defense Bug Spray (2023 Updated)

This stuff works great. We had bed bugs in one room and for some reason they were all in the carpet. A few got into the box spring. So we broke down the bed and sprayed the mattress and box spring on all sides.

We sprayed the rack as well. Then we sprayed all the baseboards and the entire carpet. This stuff works great. Almost instantly dead bugs were appearing. The spray lasts after drying. After 8 hours we vacuumed.

Sucking up dead bugs. We waited 48 hours and sprayed again. Washed all the bedding and anything they can hide in. So far so good. Product has no strong smell. Do not let children or pets in the room until dry.

I will be purchasing a second bottle for another spray in two weeks. I highly recommend this product.

So I ordered this and instantly it killed the horrific suckers. I’m ashamed to say I had bed bugs. But with this product it killed them instantly. They was in my BRAND NEW COUCH. I will be buying more of this so they will stay away.

I also plan to just spray my whole home that way I know I won’t have this murderous problem again. I really learned my lesson and not get anything, no matter how nice it may be, off the side of the road ever again.

I’ve had the bed bugs for a couple years and I thought I got rid of them by throwing the old couch away seeing that is where they were coming from or they might have came from someone else that was in my home.

Anywho, this product works and I love it and the price for this. It’s well worth it.

I personally have had a great experience using this product, I spray every year. I sprayed inside the other day because the ants are back. but now they are gone 🙂 but. The carpenter bees are back and bombing me under the carport!! They love the wood and burrow into it.

carpal tunnel left me with muscle atrophy and weak hands. I like it, it works but the battery powered automatic spray wand sucks!! oh, fyi I change the batteries before using!.

First of all, to be clear we have several indoor only cats and would NEVER use a spray like this inside the house. We don’t even use ant traps as we don’t want to take the chance of harming out cats.

so I cannot comment on the effectiveness of this being an indoor (Kitchen) product, but for outside purposes it does its job. This Summer has been awful in terms of all sorts of bugs, especially mosquitos and Earwigs.

However we have MANY spider webs forming just outside out house so this was used around those webs and inside our canopy to eliminate any mosquitos and other yucky critters that may try to sneak into our house.

It works great. Again though, would NEVER use inside a house with pets.

I have a campsite with nothing but woods and water around it. I get lots of insects in my camper and around my camper. Especially ants and spiders. I used Ortho® Home Defense Max® Ant, Roach & Spider spray and I was very impressed.

I used it right before we left for the weekend and when we came back the following weekend I was amazed at the results. I used it inside of our camper around the outside of it and in our outdoor Porta pot area.

The results definitely made me happy. I love that there was no fumes when I opened up the camper door. So far we haven’t had any more issues and it’s almost the end of camping season. I will definitely be using it from now on and I highly recommend it.

I received my ortho home defense max ant roach and spider spray and this product really does work. I have tried every insect spray that I could find and I never found a product that works as good as ortho home defense max.

I haven’t had any insects in my home since I received my product and used it for the first time. I spray it around my doors and windows. It also has no fumes which I love. I would definitely recommend this product it really does work great.

I used the Ortho Home Defense Spray to get rid of some spiders around the house. I sprayed a barrier along the wall/floor in the basement in an effort to keep spiders and even ants away. After shaking the can, it was easy to spray and got an even amount for the barrier.

The spray smelled but not fumes like the other methods where you were left coughing. Overall it works pretty well but nothing is perfect. I do think its effective enough to be worth continued use.

With all the rains we’ve been having lately, mosquito’s have been more a problem lately. Attempting to do the smallest choir outside was a pain. I decided to give this Ortho Mosquito Killer a try. Using it is as simple as connecting it to your garden hose, turning the dial and spray away.

Directions state to spray towards Dusk, so I concentrated in areas of moisture around my yard. Going outside afterwards to do some yard work was actually enjoyable, to where I wasn’t constantly swatting mosquito’s.

Although this spray didn’t completely do away with the mosquito’s, it noticeably decreased the number around me. Overall, this spray appears to work as intended.

I was super excited about reviewing this product to get rid of these pesky mosquitoes. Figured I’d take a chance and try it. Not only did it work like advertised- it was even better than that Very effective.

We have 4 lovely grandchildren. I built a sandbox in the backyard for them to enjoy. I sprayed this product about 4 hours before they came for a visit. Aside from the occasional pest, the product seemed to work very well.

None of the grandchildren complained about itching from bug bites. Was easy to use, once hooked up to the hose. I will recommend this product.

Given to me because friend said it did not kill any flies. I immediately noticed leakage from sprayer filled the cap. I have sprayed garage & rooms in house. No decrease in flys or mosquitoes in either location.

Every time I remove the cap, it is full of the liquid, leaked out, filling the sprayer depression.

For some reason, hornets love my patio. Every Spring we wage war against each other. They build their honey-combed nests and terrorize anyone who comes onto the patio and I wind up knocking down the nest and running for my life.

Well, they started early this year and were showing new gumption by flying into the house whenever the patio door is open. So I waited until the comb looked heavily populated and let them have it with burst of Home Defense.

They scrambled and some flew off but others met their maker. The nest has been abandoned for days now. Too early to try on mosquitos but it does work on nasty stinging hornets.

I went to Home Depot yesterday. The night before I heart 1 little mouse and saw it pop out of a corner of my room where I have some storage boxes. Whole night, no sleep, as it was right next to my bed.

So yesterday I go and bring this spray product, along with “snap and seal” traps to the register. The woman at checkout tells me “you don’t need both, just the spray will work fine” so I trust her. I go to sleep with confidence.

It’s now 6am and I have sensitive hearing. I am woken by the faintest sound of a mouse munching away… under my bed, under my headboard against the wall. Right next to the place I was the mouse the night before.

I can’t see the critter but I can hear it. I SPECIFICALLY sprayed under my bed. I SATURATED the room, to be clear. Had to bring out a fan because the smell was so overwhelming it made my eyes water. When I hear where the noise is coming from I get the trusty can and direct the spray at the source of the noise the best I can.

20 more minutes of the same careless chewing. I basically bombed my whole room and this 1 guy didn’t even care. Going back and getting actual traps. Can’t believe I got talked out of it. Product review 2/5.

Only stars for the fact it smelled more like peppermint than chemicals, since I’m sensitive. Might work for some people. Buy for 1 mouse in my room… couldn’t even hold up.

I purchased the ready to use hand pump bottle for tight areas which is a stream only but no spray. My research came upon the crack and crevice foam with stick attached already as in a WD40. I ordered it online through Ace Hrdware and picked it up.

There was no problem using it. I used the ready to use spray/stream first then used the foam crack/crevice second. If you use the foam crack/crevice please use an abundance of caution which for me was: wear eye protection, disposable gloves, face coverings and wear clothes you would wear to work outside or around the house then wash them afterward.

The foam crack/crevice is in my view serious stuff and should be used with caution. The ready to use tight area stream-only pump bottle is much more safe to use in that it won’t splatter like the foam does.

I baited the little brown “odorous”ants for 8 weeks and got to a point where I couldn’t stand it anymore and used primarily the foam crack/crevice where they were coming in. I layed it on heavy and have only seen 12 dead ants in a week and no live ones.

This is the real deal. the foam crack and crevice can in conjunction with the ready to use spray. The foam crack and crevice is the “work horse for sure!.

We live in a house built in 1850 with a partial dirt cellar floor, so naturally we had some mice but a few years ago there was a rat issue in my neighborhood! I spray this all around my foundation, under deck and front steps.

Inside I spray all along the baseboards, heating ducts under stove and refrigerator, basement and its managed to keep the rodents out. I’ve been using this as a deterrent for four years now and definitely would recommend this product.

If they are already in your house just use heavily once a week and they should leave.

Didn’t even get a chance to use it…the bottle (which was supposedly sealed) tipped over on my way back from the store, and it emptied in my trunk…it leaked out where the cap was supposed to be secured.

Cost me a pretty penny to get my car cleaned. Thanks Ortho.

Well, it finally warmed up enough in Wisconsin to do this review! This product worked very well-once I got it attached to the hose. I have a virtually new hose so the threads are in pristine shape, however, I had some difficulty in attaching the spray unit.

The angle was bad but I kept at it success was mine. I sprayed both a brick patio with numerous ant hills and well as ant hills in my lawn. Finally, I sprayed around the doors and concrete areas. In every case everything was dead within 24 hours.

about 2 years ago I got this to use in the basement of my house where there was a large spider problem for a couple of years. Nothing really worked too well, from bleach to roach-killers, and I just got two cats so I wanted to try something out that was safe for them.

After a late night encounter with a centipede and a large spider in the same hour, I absolutely drenched the seams and crevices of the entire basement. It reeked down there for weeks of the strong essential oils, and I seriously never saw another live insect down there, and less than 2 dead spiders found behind old furniture over the next two years.

Never seen something work that well, especially something that claims to be a safer/more natural solution! The smell is certainly very strong, and it sticks around, but it’s not horrible and I’ve thought that the smell is maybe part of how effective it is in keeping the bugs away in the long run.

They hate it too! Now I am trying to treat a different problem-ants- in a different house, so hopefully it will work just as well for another type of creepy-crawly!.

We live in our RV fulltime and this is a must. It kills everything I spray. The smell isn’t overwhelming and it’s easy to use. I spray it under and around the RV at least once a week, It also is a great deterrent for mice.

I highly recommend this product. It’s all I’ll ever use. And it’s safe around my service dog and plants.

Sprays well and ants are killed on contact. Smell is pleasant. However, when large quantities have been sprayed it can cause coughing. Also, the spray appears to only repel ants for a limited time.

This works great! I am very sure it is dangerous to anything around it. Pay very close attention to the pictures. The person spraying it is wearing very thick gloves. I have ants outside and have been trying to get rid of them gently for years.

All that I have accomplished is they move. I think my ants live a mile underground. When I found a teranchila in my kitchen I decided it was the bugs or me. So far this worked. I have a habit of leaving the back door wide open so my pets can go in and out and I can do the same.

I sprayed the patio and all the ant hills I have found. I get those hanging big nasty spiders that come out at night. I can spray from great distances and they shrivel up in a few seconds while I run for my life.

The wand is electric and stopped working before reaching half the container. It seems is a very common problem, since there are so many videos about fixing the wand out there. Tried everything, and ended up using some other bottle with a working sprayer.

Supposedly the company sends you a replacement, if you have the receipt, still their chat and email links on their sites do not work. Good luck finding the receipt, and getting a replacement wand. Won’t and wouldn’t buy again.

Waste of money.

Had an ant problem I just couldn’t get rid of. After buying Ortho Home Defense from BJs (at a fantastic low price), within 24 hours I noticed a BIG difference. Within 2 days, totally gone! The battery operated sprayer was a awesome.

Only drawback is the bottle is heavy but that’s unavoidable. I will buy again!.

True the acrid licorice smell is very strong and lingers, but despite that it is very safe to use around pets and children and for the past 16 plus years it has been an effective part of the annual and sometimes semi-annual regimen to get rid of ants and roaches.

I use it along with bait traps that attack the nest. Using just one is not effective but together most outbreaks are gone in a few days. Like another reviewer I try to spray at the points of entry when I can identify them.

Have not tried using it as a deterrent, mostly because I hate the smell.

I am neither a doctor nor a professional. I am a consumer telling everyone my experience. I have been battling bedbugs for 6 months. I used several products and these products were not effective. Finally, when I had purchased Ortho, I was able to get some sleep.

Ortho alone did not cure my bedbug issue completely, but it keeps the bedbugs away from my children and I while we sleep. I started spraying Ortho only in the rooms where everyone sleep and used foggers in the other areas of my home.

I now don’t have bedbugs in the master bedroom. Two hours before my children’s bed time, I lightly spray every night in the areas where my children sleep. (I do open windows to air out the home during this process.

) My children are waking up with no bites. I spray lightly once a week in the master bedroom and I have not got bitten for 2 weeks. I am hoping eventually after a month of spraying every day they will leave my apartment.

But for now, my children and I can get some sleep. Comments: -This product first started killing on contact, but now the bedbugs die within 20 minutes. -In my opinion, the smell of the spray is mildly strong.

The smell only last for 20 minutes when airing out the home. -At first, I bought 2 cans of spray to cover 2 rooms every 2 days. I now use one can for 2 rooms every four days (Because I am to the point of lightly spraying).

Highly recommend. Good item as good service in effective, odorless and stainless. In fact, the Ortho Home is a best insectide than many other that I have bought them. Fearless for children, no stains for valuable material, and no residual in the area.

Best among the best, perhaps RAID branch. Therefore, the Orho insecticide means no disease, no infestation, and no lost of sleep. It is a great item, but the greatest is good delivery over big item without any damages, losts and missings.

Ortho bed bug spray is very good product, the best we found. Will not kill all the bugs first time you spray. It will wipe out a big part of them and as they crawl on the sprayed fabric I would start 2 cans.

We spray once a week, and as they hatch out it continue to kill. Tough bugs to kill, but stay at and they get to be a small group to just 2 or 3. This is s wonderful product.

I bought this hoping it would work after many many things that didn’t. It works. Thank ortho. Use it three times mandatory. You will be amazed.

If you have ants, etc coming into your home, use a small paint brush to apply to cracks and areas where pests are coming in. Use it full strength, do not dilute it with anything. One good application is all that’s necessary.

If you see the pests again, you did not get to all areas you needed to. Watch where they go or come from and apply directly to that area. They carry it back to their nests and the nest is destroyed. This is the stuff you need.

This stuff is great. Kills quickly and can be used on all kinds of insects, especially ants. Good price from Tractor Supply with free delivery to the store. Very happy with purchase.

Home Defense has proven to be a most effective and season-long deterrent to spiders that otherwise thrive and make an unsightly mess on our lakeside home. One application in late -May to early-June is adequate for summer–long protection.

The results were terrific. Not a single bite for any guest, or me.

it is for outdoor use only & please do not use on vegetation. Based on past experience with other ortho products i believe it will work well & I cant wait to use it on those horrible mosquitoes.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe Texas gulf coast is experiencing an explosion of mosquitoes due to recent record rainfall. I have two Great Danes that HAVE to go outside to relieve themselves and our backyard was filled with the little pests.

Our poor pooches were coming back in just covered with mosquitoes. I sprayed this product around my property and I noticed a dramatic decrease.

Just moved into my first apartment. The place I moved to was found to have an existing ROACH problem outside the unit in front of my door. So I bought this to treat the problem. Used it last night while they were active and instead of killing them, it brought them inside.

What we have been trying to avoid. Now we have roaches in our hallway outside the unit. All this product did was bring in tons more and they came inside. Do not recommend. It also does not kill on contact as stated.

I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed the roaches and they just kept crawling. It says its water based. Maybe too much water because they seem unaffected. One did die after I sprayed it 50 times. Will be going to buy Ortho for this terrible problem since our landlord refuses to spray and calls them Waterbugs.

It worked great for a few months. I don’t have problems with roaches or ants, it’s more with spiders. I didn’t see anything for the first few months. For the next 9 months, I saw a spider once in a while, but MUCH less frequently than before.

Really easy and quick to use. I recommend buying it in the bottle that already had a nozzle on it for ease of use instead of buying the big container and loading into a sprayer. Even if you have to buy a couple of bottles, it’s worth it.

I have 3 dogs, and they noticed that I had sprayed something after it had dried because they stopped to sniff the perimeter extensively, but they never showed any signs of irritation like itchy skin, red eyes, etc.

I’d buy it again.

One of the best maintenance purchases I have made for my home. I picked mine up at the hardware store, but it can be bought at multiple places. I love using it around the perimeter of the house. If I happen to see a bug, spider, insect that I don’t want in my home – I immediately pull this out.

It doesn’t take much effort to spray around the house. I always try to make sure I cover the areas leading to/from the outside. I also make sure my dog is no where near the area for a while as I imagine it could be too strong for her to breathe in.

I actually have multiple bottles of this because I like to make sure I never run empty. It’s a great way to reduce the need for professional pest control if you’re looking to keep those household expenses down!.
