20 Best Hitches For Travel Trailers (2023 Updated)
Hitches for travel trailers are designed to provide a safe and secure connection between the trailer and the towing vehicle. There are a variety of hitch types available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
The most important consideration when choosing a hitch is to select one that is compatible with the towing vehicle and the trailer.
The most common type of hitch for travel trailers is the ball hitch. This hitch consists of a ball mount that is attached to the towing vehicle, and a coupler that attaches to the trailer. The ball hitch is easy to use and provides a secure connection between the two vehicles.
However, it is important to make sure that the ball mount is properly secured to the towing vehicle to avoid accidents.
Another type of hitch for travel trailers is the fifth wheel hitch. This hitch is similar to the ball hitch, but it uses a fifth wheel instead of a ball to provide a secure connection. Fifth wheel hitches are typically used with larger trailers, and they provide a more stable connection than ball hitches.
However, they can be more difficult to use and may require special adapters to be used with certain vehicles.
Hitches for travel trailers can also be classified based on the type of connection they provide. Some hitches use a chain to connect the two vehicles, while others use a strap or a cable. Chain hitches are the most secure type of hitch, but they can be difficult to use.
Strap and cable hitches are easier to use, but they are not as secure as chain hitches.
No matter what type of hitch you choose, it is important to make sure that it is compatible with the towing vehicle and the trailer. Incompatible hitches can cause accidents, so it is always better to be safe than sorry.
A CURT RV hitch is a trailer hitch that is designed to mount onto the back of a recreational vehicle to add extra cargo space. These hitches are manufactured using CURT’s quality processes of robotic welding, thorough cleaning and precise finishing.
Our RV bumper hitches are coated with a liquid A-coat followed by a gloss black powder coat finish for lasing resistance against wear and corrosion, and they offer a 2 inch x 2 inch receiver tube opening.
This particular bumper hitch features a gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. , making it an excellent choice for towing a bike rack, cargo carrier, boat trailer or small utility trailer behind your RV.
It can also be used for towing a recreational vehicle trailer, allowing you to bring with you that ATV, personal watercraft, dirt bike or whatever toys you like to have along for the ride. Be sure to always check the gross trailer weight and weight rating of the bumper before towing.
CURT RV hitches are not just another accessory for your camper; they are a product of smart engineering and quality construction to help you achieve that ultimate RV experience every time you hit the road.
I was looking for a hitch receiver to mount on the back bumper of my Travel Trailer. This CURT model seemed to be about the best rated for this style of bolt on products. What attracted me to the design.
fewest number of parts, and the receiver tube sitting directly on the bumper. In addition to the welded assembly, there are 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Other similar models have 2 or more main parts with 2 u-bolts and 4 nuts, or 4 bolts and 4 nuts.
this is just more simple. And the way this is built, I think thee is less stress on the welds. The second thing, and the reason I ordered from Blain’s Farm and Fleet, was for the product I had selected, they had the best price.
and the shipping was faster than initially promised. Lastly, after reading a number of reviews on this product, I was expecting a little effort to get this thing mounted on my trailer. Some of the reviews talked about tight tolerances and tight fits, weld interference and bolting difficulties.
I didn’t experience any of these. In fact, this was about the easiest piece of equipment I’ve ever installed, and had it mounted in about 3 minutes. Great product, great supplier, and a happy customer.
this hitch is easy to install. It wont handle a lot of tongue weight, but, it will work for a boat trailer or utility trailer to pull behind your travel trailer. I used it for my 14 ft. aluminum fishing boat, and my travel trailer pulled much more smoothly.
Just by adding that little bit of drag behind the trailer, stopped it from swaying back and forth. Kind of like adding a longer tail to a kite! works great for my application , and i have already recommended it to several friends.
just dont put yourself in a situation where backing up is necessary. you will have to unhook the last trailer and get turned around, then rehook trailer. still no big deal. LOVE IT!!!.
The space between plates is very tight close to the welds. This required hitting the hitch at the bottom to drive it up. A solid 4×4 chunk of wood and a heavy hammer worked. Should not have had to do this, but it is on.
The first Curt hitch did not have enough space to work at all. It was returned. Customer service was awesome during the replacement process!.

Haul large loads thanks to this trailer hitch’s weight carrying capacity of 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. This car tow hitch is compatible with weight distribution hitches (sold separately) to provide a weight distribution rating of 5,000 pounds WD and 500 pounds WDTW.
Whatever your destination and whatever trailer you’re towing, bring it along with the Curt Receiver Trailer Hitch.
Shipped fast. Install instructions were easy enough to follow. I did watch the YouTube install video to make sure I understood everything. I installed by myself and used a car jack to help hold everything in place while threading the screws.
I attached a five bike hitch rack with no issues. Getting all five bikes on took some patience but everything worked great.
Great, heavy duty trailer hitch. The installation requires using four existing threaded captive nuts on the Odyssey. The threads will be dirty and somewhat corroded so buy a metric tap to clean the threads.
It was very well packaged and got here super fast but is so badly bent that the plate steel that bolts to the frame is pointing up about 30 degrees on both sides. Looks like they are both bent slightly inward also.
It’s kind of like a bird with it’s wings back! It’s actually too narrow to even lift into place and this is 6 inch wide 5/16 plate steel. If I wasn’t so disgusted I would be impressed, but my undercoating got scratched up real nice so we will stick with disgusted.
The box is gone because I have never had an issue buying parts from summit. I guess we will take it to the press and see if we can make it right, or just throw it away. Then I can find another way to get my trailer 650 miles home.
I still can’t get over the fact that someone sent it out like this! Thanks guys!.
Level your trailer and take care of that sway all in one with the TruTrack 4p Weight Distribution hitch with integrated sway control. Eliminate the need to find a sway control attachment to work with your distribution hitch.
This hitch system makes life simple when it comes to towing safely. It offers simple adjustments that will allow you to attach to virtually all A-frame trailers. It is available in three different gross weight options ( 5-8k lbs, 8-10klbs, 10-15k lbs).
It comes with a 2′′ shank and a pre-torqued 2-5/16′′ ball. The TruTrack 4 times way control also uses a new adjustable support bracket that holds the spring bars in place laterally and vertically instead of the old spring bar chains that are a hassle to use and not as safe.
This will also make setting up your hitch faster and easier. So not only do you get a smooth and safe ride your hitching and unhitching just got a whole lot simpler. Safety Notice: When towing make sure you know the rating of the ball and follow the tow rating of the ball, hitch, tow vehicle, and trailer accordingly.
I have used this hitch for the past three years towing my 32 ft toyhauler. This unit has worked extremely well and exceeded all expectations. However a word of advice the cotter pin on one of the trunion units broke free and allowed the nut to slowly back off over time.
Unfortunately not seeing this or knowing this it allowed my trailer to go into and uncomfortable sway, resulting in a roll over. However despite this issue which is solely a maintenance, random issue this hitch likely saved my life from rolling my truck.
Im sharing this story for future buyers that it may save your life also. Great product with great construction. Just verify torque and tightness from time to time.
First, the trunnion bar systems provide more ground clearance than the round bar systems, whose bars hang down below the hitch head. Second, this TruTrack system uses rigid frame brackets, eliminating the chains, which eliminates the top-of-the-frame chain-lifting brackets, and also allows for the unique built-in anti-sway feature.
The TruTrack anti-sway system uses large, spring-loaded ball bearings which seek to rest in the bottom of detents, which works to keep the trailer tongue aimed straight ahead. This also improves cornering, I’ve found.
In my case, my dump trailer has a battery/pump box located where any frame brackets need to go, so any chain system was out for me. With the TruTrack permanent frame brackets, I was able to space the box up 1 1/2″ using pressure treated 2x4s and pass the top bracket bolt through a slot I cut in the wood (see pic).
This Curt 17500 hitch is rated for 10000 pounds gross trailer weight and 1000 pounds tongue weight, and has adjustments to accommodate any situation up to those limits. Once the adjustments are made to the head, and the bolts are tightened to the 200 ft-lbs specification, the setup is rock solid.
Those claiming the adjustment fittings became distorted simply did not make the required final tightening to 200 ft-lbs, I think. Another bent and broke the tool that is supplied in the kit to lift the bars onto the frame brackets.
That tool is actually unnecessary, if you simply raise the tongue jackwith the tow vehicle coupled to the traileruntil you can easily put the bars on the brackets by hand. Stay clear of the area inside the bars as you mount them, as the anti-sway feature puts force on the bars to try to center them.
As for the Curt Manufacturing Company, all the Curt products I’ve used have been top quality and heavy duty, including their drop shanks.
I purchased the Curt 17500 based on the heavy duty set up it offers. Not to mention it is HEAVY! I set it up per the instructions and torqued everything to the instructed specs. I took it for a 40 mile test run in 35 mph cross winds and the anti-sway worked like a champ! But upon returning I noticed that the washers with the studs that holds the hitch head tilt were contorted and bent as well as the adjustment holes on the hitch head being stretched and oblong! Very poor and unsafe design.
I contacted Curt and they said I probably didn’t tighten to specs which I did with a calibrated torque wrench. They then offered to send me another set of washers with the studs which in my opinion is a temporary fix for a disaster waiting to happen.
I now have a $400 120lb boat anchor sitting in the corner of my shop. $500 later I purchased the Equalizer 4way 12000lb and it is by far a better system.
When an especially bulky trailer or heavy load requires more towing power, class 4 steps in to take the reins. CURT class 4 trailer hitches are made with all-American steel and a powerful design. They are commonly found on commercial vans and larger pickup trucks and SUVs.
Class 4 boasts a gross trailer weight capacity of up to 10,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity at 1,000 lbs. Also, like many class 3 hitches, this class 4 hitch can be used in combination with a weight distribution hitch to increase its overall towing capacity.
With a weight distribution system attached, the gross trailer weight capacity increases up to 12,000 lbs. and the tongue weight capacity up to 1,200 lbs. (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component).
The quality of the hitch itself is very good. Plan on spending time to resize the shims that have to go inside the frame. Mine were too big and it took serious grinding to get them to slide inside the access holes.
Be very careful with the “fish wires”. It takes considerable patients get the bolts and shims in the proper position to pull them through the frame holes. If you lose the shim and bolts inside the frame there is no way to retrieve them.
Even the bolt heads were too large to go through the access holes. Be prepared to spend a few hours to install the hitch.
Hitch was as advertised. Price changed from $145. 00 to 169. 00. Evidently promotion expired. It was still a great deal with free shipping parnell was my phone assistant. He was great he looked for a lower price even other hitches of similar quality.
He changed my delivery address so I could receive my hitch faster. The hitch was complete and was easy to install. You need a 210 flbs torque wrench. On line install video was a great help. I recommend summit and the curt class 4 hitch.
Very well built. Not really worth a negative rating but the instructions are atrocious. Black and white, small photos and horribly blown out. Text is poorly worded. Better upclose photos in color OR computer graphics would be a lot better.
Use Curt’s website instead for instructions. Sorting through all that added quite a bit of time.
They are customized for your vehicle, powder-coated for corrosion resistance and are compatible with 2″ ball mounts. Purchased this hitch receiver for my 2021 Ram 1500 Bighorn with the Class III Bumper Hitch. I didn’t realize you needed a separate hitch receiver to make it functional. It was definitely a cost savings instead of purchasing the full trailer hitch unit.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a 1/2” hex driver to start the install, so I had to visit a local auto parts store. Installation was easy, took about 30 minutes, torqued the bottom bolts to the recommended ft lbs, but the top bolt (350 ft lbs) exceeded my torque wrench capability, so I cranked it as hard as I could with the leverage I had.
Mounting was easy. Used needle nose vice grip pliers to hold the tail end of the fish wires as far into the bolt holes as they would go. Allowed for more wire to work with on other end, crimping for the backplate and threading the bolts onto the wire.
Used the same pliers to clamp and hold the bolts once they were pulled through the backplates so they wouldn’t fall back into the frame while I was unthreading them from the fish wires. That was the only dicey part of the process.
Losing one or both of the bolts in the frame would have been a major headache. But it worked and I’m loving the hitch. Highly recommend.
Bought this hitch nervously as it was an “open box” all sales final product. Was marked as scratched and chipped. Showed up in two days in fresh packaging with all parts and pieces. Looks fresh as the day it was made.
No major scratches at all so it leads me to believe the standards are pretty high for this company. We were very very pleased.
Max-Frame receivers are designed for trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles 2″ square receiver tube opening. Material- Steel Rated up to 5000 pounds (GTW) weight carrying (WC), rated up to 8000 pounds (GTW) weight distributing (WD) All-Frame attachment, solid all-welded construction, with a-coat base w/ black powder coat finish Custom built to manufacturer and model year ensures perfect fit and top towing performance You bought a Nissan Frontier but don’t haul anything that requires a hitch? Your boat or camper isn’t going to tow itself to the lake or the national park.
Be the hauling hero for your family and friends with the Draw Tite 75282 Class III Max Frame Receiver. Able to carry up to 5,000 pounds without a weight distribution system, and 8,000 pounds with, you’ll be able to bring your favorite toys wherever they’re needed.
This hitch is designed for a perfect pairing on your vehicle and bolts up to the frame quickly with included hardware. Haul aboard that tow life and put your Frontier to work with the Draw Tite 75282 Class III Max Frame Receiver.
Very easy to install. Look up Watch U-Hauls install video to learn a couple of tricks. “Drawtite hitch install 2014 Ford Explorer” Not as hard to wrestle in place as I expected. Since the truck has dual mufflers, I just rested the hitch across the top of the mufflers.
Although it is not visible in picture, mine came with the little tab welded to the hitch so you can install a plug connecter mounting bracket. I am very happy, this is a very clean looking install.
One of the few hitches I have mounted that actually seemed to be made for the vehicle. All hardware, which is 6 bolts, 6 washers and 2 nuts is included. The Tacoma frame is already threaded with “weld nuts” that accept the 4 large anodized bolts.
My truck was new and had no frame corrosion. If the truck has been on the road you might have to clean up the weld nuts with a wire brush. As such the 4 main bolts threaded right in. The other 2 bolts actually thread in through the rear step bumper then down through the hitch.
Draw-Tite provides 2 fish wires to help position the rear most bolts. This was the only time consuming part. If someone can help you for a couple minutes to hold the hitch to the frame this job is easier.
I used a floor jack and some boards to hold it up as there was no one else to help. Anyway, all the holes line up, there is no drilling and all you need is a 1/2 inch drive socket set and you definitely do not need to pay an installer.
It should have been easier than it was. The flanges that bolt to the frame were not quite square- may have been dropped on one end to tweak it out of place- so it required a bit of mechanics to get it bent back out to proper alignment.
Fortunately I did it at work so I had some heavier equipment to persuade it to cooperate. Otherwise , all good. Easy instructions, straight forward project There was no damage to the shipping box, so if it was dropped, it was prior to shipping.
Looking to upgrade your truck or SUV so you can haul your gear or new camper? Needing to haul some materials or equipment out to that next work site? These HD rear hitches are rated up to 8,000 pound towing capacity (depending on model) and come with a standard 2′′ receiver mount.
The Class III hitches are perfectly designed for use with smaller trucks and SUV’s. Engineered with a vehicle-specific design these hitches are precisely welded for superior strength and fit. Curt’s rear receiver hitches are co-cured in rust-resistant liquid A-coating inside and out to ensure the strongest protection against the elements.
A carbide powder coat finish gives a sleek look and acts as a final protection layer against corrosion. Vehicle-specific mounts allow for a seamless OEM look. This design also ensures maximum towing capacity for your specific ride.
Included is an open-back receiver tube that allows for easy cleaning and maintenance. Made in the USA (may include imported hardware) each hitch has vehicle-specific mounts that include all heavy-duty mounting hardware to help provide a hassle-free extra secure install (no drilling required on most models).

Very well built hitch. I just finished installing a Curt hitch on my other pickup and was extremely impressed with the craftsmanship and ease of installation. Everything fit perfectly. Curt makes exceptional products and I look forward to installing this hitch today.
Purchased online – had it shipped(free shipping) to my home – arrived in 5 days. My truck is a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge, 2 wheel drive. No drilling is required for install. An extra set of hands is helpful, but not required.
Majority of hitch remains hidden from view and it doesn’t interfere with the spare tire. It is well made/solid with a nice powder coat. Install was 25 minutes. To install, drop your spare down to the ground to get it out of way.
Remove 2 (furthest forward-towards front of truck) of the 4 bolts attaching rear bumper which are held to the frame with jam nuts. Loosen remaining 2, THEN remove the 2 jam nuts from the bolts you completely removed.
If you don’t first loosen the remaining 2 bumper bolts you will struggle to get the jam nuts to slide out. Lastly, bolt up new hitch with included hardware. An extra set of hands is helpful here. I was willing to pay a little more for this because of its nice curved design and the no drill install.
This hitch features a 5. 5″ rise, a 5″ drop, and fits any standard 2″ receiver. With a class IV rating, this bad boy increases your capability to tow up to 10,000 pounds GTW and 1,000 pounds VTW. As the only hitch you’ll ever need in your life, the TS10037B has a powder-coated finish, non-corrosive pins, and you can rotate the ball to the desired size to tow a trailer full of tacos, your luggage rack, a sweet ski boat, or anything else your heart desires.

Love this product! I would advise on the installation to remove the rear bumper as this will stop the need to drill a hole in your plastic bumper (I wasn’t going to do this to my new 2021 Gladiator) The bumper is easy to remove only 6 bolts and 2 wiring harnesses, this leaves you with a much cleaner look!! Love how simple the setup is only 2 bolts and nuts with the 1 main screw.
Definitely use lock tight to really feel secure. Overall it’s early days but save yourself some $$$ and get this product install yourself only takes 1 hour or so and your all done and ready for towing, water sports and all trailer/hitch needs.
The item came on time packaged very well. When I purchased my new Jeep Gladiator it didn’t come with a trailer hitch but was already wired fir a trailer. So instead of buying a Jeep brand I went with this one which was cheaper.
I will say I did not like drilling through my plastics in the bumper to install, but I did purchase a rubber tread plate to stick over the top of it. Installation wasnt bad at all and once installed and torqued to spec.
It looked good and I was very happy with the product!.
Fit perfect and works great. It wasn’t hard to I stall at all I looked online but was scared I would order wrong one and it wouldn’t fit. But ordered from a friend that works with extreme entertain and she knew exactly what would work.

Gross trailer weight gtw weight carrying wc and up to 12, 000 pounds. Gross trailer weight gtw with weight distributing wc. Easy, bolt-on installation with no welding required. Complete hardware kit and installation instructions included.
After research I decided this hitch would be the best one for both price and ease of installing. I received it on time but in a package that was less then appropriate. Now I see why others had issue with installing it.
Picture included. I was to excited to put an extra paint coat on it so i hope it doesn’t rust where the paint chipped off. Installation was quite easy except for being alone while installing. I did take the full size spare out( and use to help install) i also used a craftmans tool box to hold the hitch up being alone and the weight of the hitch is quite heavy.
I did not lift the end just did it while on the ground. I do recommend having or purchasing a torque wrench (harbor freight) for install. Also doing what the diy videos show and clean the bolt holes, the bolts will go in better.
I would recommend this hitch brand as I have had curt as well and they both do as they are designed for. I have a cargo carrier that I load up for trips and camping. I only gave 4 stars due to packaging that should have been better.
I’m a 125lb woman and was able to install by myself (husband was at work).
This was not an easy job at all. The exhaust system had 3 connections points that had to be taken off to drop the muffler to have access to mounting the hitch. Drilling the hole was okay and feeding the lugs, washers and nuts was okay.
The heat shield was a real problem as I cut it as shown in Utube videos but it was not enough and the shield was blocking one of the attachment bolts, so snip, snip and I got it in place. The rubber straps to reattach the exhaust system (3) were totally difficult to do especially the two on the muffler.
The tail pipe was okay. I had to lube the rubber fasteners and stretch the hell out of them to reattach. Finally got it. Looks great, works great. Oh year I was NOT on a life but on the ground.
I love this hitch. I was lucky that all the holes on my frame were pre-drilled and made the job very easy. The instructions were really faded so I couldn’t really use them, but I printed out my own from their website and everything went really smoothly.
Only took about an hour and could have done it quicker if I had an impact wrench to take out the old rusted bolts. I was also really lucky that my full size tire still fits up under the bed of the truck.
Just a note, I only had to take one bolt off the frame so the bumper stayed in place for me. The side bumper braces I had to take off so I could get to the bolts, but it was no problem putting them back on.
The Fastway e2 hitch offers faster and easier sway control and weight distribution. With built-in, permanent sway control, you can hitch up, tow, and unhitch with ease. There is nothing extra to connect or store, and nothing to remove when backing or making a tight turn.
The e2’s rigid brackets provide two points of steel-on-steel friction, constantly working to fight sway. Its unique design provides a level ride while minimizing sway caused by winds, semi trailers and sudden maneuvers.
The e2 hitch comes in round-bar and trunnion styles. Both offer fast and easy sway control and weight distribution. The e2’s smart design can be installed around gas tanks and battery boxes, works with surge brakes, and can accommodate any trailer type.
Round bar-style hitch Provides faster and easier sway control and weight distribution without the hassle of chains or add-on sway bars No backing, turning, or weather restrictions Rigid brackets give you permanent sway control for smarter, safer towing Weight Rating: 8,000 lbs.
This was the first weight distribution hitch, and I am very satisfied. I made a 1200 mile trip and this made the drive much smoother than just using a standard ball hitch alone. We went through icy and snowy roads, winds, etc, and it made the drive much easier.
Installation was fairly simple. I am deducting one star because they neither include their special socket for installing the ball hitch nor do they make it easy to purchase it. I couldn’t purchase the kit with the pre-installed ball because my horse trailer has a 2” hitch.
Finding someone that could install the ball was a huge pain and inconvenience. They could have easily designed the main hitch to not require a special socket, or included it in the kits that do not have balls pre installed.
I would recommend this hitch but please be aware of this issue before purchasing.
Heavy-duty weight distribution and sway control system. Unbelievably easy to install. Took less than 30 minutes. Read the directions first and follow them. After installation. Back up vehicle and connect to trailer.
Snap the arms into hitch. Jack trailer and truck up until the arms swing into place. Drop “L” brackets in place and pin with “R” pins. Raise Jack off the ground and drive away.
A CURT RV hitch is a trailer hitch designed to mount on a recreational vehicle to tow along a few toys, add extra cargo space or to allow a vehicle to be flat-towed behind the RV. These hitches are manufactured using CURT’s quality processes of robotic welding, thorough cleaning and precise finishing.
Both our RV trailer hitches and RV bumper hitches are coated with a liquid Bonderite coating and high-gloss black powder coat finish to protect against scratches, rust and UV damage, and both offer a 2″ x 2″ receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or other towing accessories.
This is the first Curt product I have purchased. It is well designed and came with great instructions and plenty of mounting hardware. It was very easy to install on my camper. I am very pleased with it.
Hitch worked and fit great with a little modification. Kit has adequate hardware included. The fishing wire worked great. Finish is also great. No more extra trip to the campground to get the cart up!
This hitch system prevents dangerous trailer sway and improves vehicle braking. The weight distributing hitch is specially designed to keep the trailer tongue weight distributed evenly relative to the trailer gross vehicle weight.
The heavy duty hitch system handles up to 10000 lb. gross vehicle weight and 1000 lb. max tongue weight. Features rugged all-steel construction and a tough powder coat finish.
Bought a travel trailer down in NM oil field country. picked up a weight distribution at HF and put it the truck. some ask why I needed it. when pulling a trailer in the desert there are can be winds and gusts at times on the service roads and highways where these oil and gas rigs are located, not mention NM in general.
A distribution hitch will help stabilize the load and distribute the weight ( 5300 lbs in my case ) sure enough the winds came the trailer held nice and steady on the gravel service roads and rough pavement of US highway 62.
I checked the rigging three times and was still very tight after the rough gravel road and rough U. S. highway 62, then home 250 miles. it was rough drive at first most people will never dive in oil field country though roads like that with a 5300 lbs.
travel trailer. This distribution hitch did very, very well ,not bad for not having a sway bar hooked up either which I forgot at home. Proved and tested in the Oil and Gas fields of New Mexico. I’ll bring you buyers up to speed here the only thing I can say to improve this rig is longer chain length.
The 3/8 that come with it are to short (1 foot long). Make these 18 -24″ inches and you got a winner. I picked up some 3/8 chains cut 24″ at Lowes. this on the advise from other here on the HF comments board which saved me a trip.
So HF did go back to the 3/8 chains , they are heavy duty but to short for me.
Bought this when it was on sale and it was the last one 1 hour after the store doors opened. You can find it’s twin online for 2-3 times the price. It IS heavy. Follow the good instructions. Extras needed: grease gun, lg-med flat tip screwdriver, 2 lg & 1 sm adjustable wrench, large pipe wrench if adjustable is too small for the ball hitch, and lastly a third hand is VERY convenient.
Make sure your electrical cable is up and away from the hitch, it will cut the cable on sharp turns. I pulled a 24′ cargo trailer filled with household furniture and boxes (hard to balance the weight) probably overweight, with a Ram 1500 with no problems.
However, I did attach a sway bar from HFT that truly kept the swaying under control. I know it works because I pulled that very same trailer, packed, with and without the hitch. BIG difference. Considering all the things that could have gone wrong without this hitch, yeah I’m a very happy customer !.
Very good construction. As good as a Reese Hitch or any other hitch maker. Chains were the correct size and not too small of a diameter as others have stated. Others have noted that you have to have something handy to pry out the spring lock pins.
NOT SO! Once the spring is locked in place all you have to do to unlock it is rotate the spring outward away from the tongue about 50 degrees and the pin will unlock itself. You can see the pin move out as you do so and the spring will drop out of the hole.
Just like a Reese Hitch. If you look at the groove in the spring where the pin locks in you’ll see that the groove is ramped at the end to push the pin out and unlock it. I do believe that the manual says to pry out the lock but again, it’s not necessary.
Seems like whoever is making this for Harbor Freight neglected to make them aware of this. Great hitch, great price, easy set up. I highly recommend it.

This car tow hitch is compatible with weight distribution hitches (sold separately) to provide a weight distribution rating of 5,000 pounds WD and 525 pounds WDTW.
Whatever your destination and whatever trailer you’re towing, bring it along with the Curt Receiver Trailer Hitch.
Received hitch promptly as promised. Hitch was in unopened box and had some scratches which should not have been on it. Careless at factory? This is my third Curt hitch I purchased and installed. Previous Curts were perfect! On my 2020 Odyssey, the exhaust pipe was in the way when tightening and torquing the bolts but can be wedged enough to the side enough to complete the installation.
The foot motion operation on the hatch does not work now because the hitch is shielding the antenna.
The instructions for installation were easy to follow. My only issue was the distance between the bolt hole and the muffler pipe were too close to use a standard ratchet for installation. I had to push the muffler pipe out of the way so I could install, tighten, and torque the bolts.
It looks great and the fastest shipping on any product I have ever have. Ordered and installed in less than a 24 hour period.
This is the second trailer hitch I have bought from anything auto. The hitch takes more time than 20 minutes on my type of car but still not that hard, it takes two people and do yourself a favor and take a brush and clean the the bolt holes out.
The staff at anything auto have always been very accommodating to me and helped me with all the questions that I may have thankyou.

I really liked this trailer hitch. It took approximately 30 minutes to install with no need to remove the rear bumper on my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. The cross bar hides well under the rear bumper. Shipping was fast and got to me before my weekend trip.
I’ll be honest though, the shipping was a bit rough because there was really nothing in the box to prevent the hitch from moving around and getting damaged. It tore a hole in the box but luckily as this is a steel hitch, everything was fine.
This looks like a well made product. Unfortunately I had to re-schedule the installation of the Trailer Hitch because of missing parts. I’m hoping to have it installed by my mechanic this weekend. This delayed installation has cost me more money than I anticipated.
It took a WEEK for the missing parts to arrive. I asked for the missing part to be overnited but they said that was not possible. You might want to check on the person who fills the bag with the items needed to install the hitch.
this worked perfect. It was easy to install with just 4 bolts. 2″ is the way to go! actually cheaper than the smaller one, plus 2″ bike rakes tend to be cheaper too than the smaller ones. I do not know why, you would think the opposite would be true.
Maybe it is supply and demand more people go with the smaller so they can charge more? Anyway either one you get will work awsome.
There is nothing like the luxury and power that go along with heavy-duty towing. 5th wheel RVs offer a deluxe, home-away-from-home experience unlike any other, while gooseneck trailers possess a strength that far surpasses most other trailer options.
As with any trailer, however, 5th wheels and goosenecks must be equipped with the proper lighting and electrical systems, and tend to require even more complex connectors than a standard receiver-type trailer setup.
Make things simple with a CURT 5th wheel / gooseneck extension harness. These wiring harnesses are designed to put an extra connector socket in the bed of your pickup truck while still retaining power to the rear connector socket mounted on your bumper.
This is done by plugging into the back of the existing original equipment (OEM) harness and routing through the body of the truck to a hole in the truck bed, providing a connector that is ready to accommodate your 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer.
This CURT extension harness is designed to work with 7-way RV blade connectors and comes in a length of 7′. It is compatible with certain years of the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 and Dakota (see application to verify fitment).
When you need a towing electrical solution that allows you to switch back and forth between your receiver hitch and specialized trailer hitch, CURT gets you plugged in.
Doing this in 30 min. Would take a lift and experience. Had to ream middle hole on passenger side. Fish wires work well when you figure them out. Finished project exceptionally satisfying. Recommend the product.
The No Drill CURT fit my 2005 F-150 perfectly. It took me a few minutes to figure out the wire inserts to get the bolts through the factory frame holes, but they worked good too. If you have a ball mounted in your bumper, make sure you remove it before you start – the receiver tube fits very close to the bottom of the rear bumper and the shank and nut from the ball will get in the way.
Overall, the instructions were pretty clear and east to follow. Great product!.
The fit of this product is fantastic! Easy to install in about 45 mins. One person install with no lift in the driveway. I did use a floor jack to aid in installation but everything lined up perfectly! One thing I would suggest is not to try to feed the wire through the big opening to the small opening, rather feed the coil end through the hitch and frame and then add the anti-spin plate and bolt at the large opening.
Makes it easier to grab the wire at the spring end in the large opening!.
There is a better way and this is it! The Andersen silent, ‘No-Sway,’ ‘No-Bounce’ Weight Distribution Hitch doesn’t just raise the bar, it sets it! Combining modern materials, technology and innovation, its the simplest, quietest, and most advanced weight distribution hitch on the road today.
This is a first in the industry giving trailer owners the best anti-sway option AND the only true Motion-Dampening system (anti-bounce) around. Owners can’t believe how smooth and quiet the ride is!.
Using on a 2017 Rockwood A212HW. Weighs just under 3300 lbs fully loaded. Pulling with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma. Although Toyota recommends sway control when towing over 2000 lbs, I went without for a while.
Finally got this and the difference is night and day! Easy installation if you have all the tools. Works just as advertised. Very happy with it as well as Bumper Superstore’s great customer service.
Watch the videos so you understand how it works. I used it to keep a huge trailer load legal, transferring enough weight forward to stay within tongue and rear-axle limits. Not to mention the improved stability on marginal pavement that might cause sway.
And the trick of jacking it up high enough to loosen the chains and easily remove it when dropping the trailer is very handy and simple. It backs up marvelously without touching the hitch. Remarkable engineering indeed.
The hitch took about an hour to install. Easy to set. Provides a better ride than the previous WDH. Much better sway control also. No more heavy hitch block and spring bars to mess with. Ram 1500 towing a 25” RV with 940lb tongue weight.
Trailer owners across the country have voted the Equal-i-zer hitch the #1 hitch on the road for six consecutive years. The shank allows a 3 drop and a 7 rise, measures 12 long, and fits 2 trailer hitch receivers.
Every hitch is built from the highest-quality American steel, by people who care about your safety and take pride in their work. Whether you pass a semi-truck, experience gusty winds, or have to make a quick maneuver, our hitch will ensure your trailer stays right behind you, protecting both your trailer and your family.
The Equal-i-zer hitch eliminates the need for add-on sway control devices and the hassle that goes along with them. With an Equal-i-zer hitch you don’t have to worry about restrictions on backing up or a tight turning radius.
There’s nothing extra to hook up or take off. When the weight distribution is engaged, the sway control is engaged too, providing your family the best protection possible.
This system is heads and tails above what what used to be the best system including the load levelers and the sway bars from husky. Bought a used trailer with the sway bars and load levelers from Husky and after the first trip was ready to hand my keys to anybody that would take them.
I refused to do another trip until I got something that would keep this trailer under control bought this with some reservation and I’m here to tell you it rocked our world! Not a single F bomb even when being passed by two semi’s on both my left and right.
It really made a difference and kept me in the driver seat!.
I purchased the 1200/12,000 pound version of this product for my travel trailer. My trailer empty weighs in at 8660 with a tounge weight of 1150 and a max weight of 10,500 so that is why I purchased this product.
It really does what it says it does. Installation was very easy but be aware this thing is heavy. Installing the hitch ball can be a little tricky if you don’t have a socket big enough (1″7/8 I think) to tighten it as it is recessed into the hitch.
I took mine to an RV shop and they tightened it up for me. The receiver is reversable which is a big help as I needed the extra height for my truck apllcation. The bolts and nuts for mounting the hitch head to the receiver is an 1″1/8.
Be sure everything is torqued to the specs provided in the instructions. Installing the trailer brackets were just as easy, 3/4 socket and wrench for that. Hokking up was a breezed providing that you followed the instructions.
You may need to tweek the setup based on your application but it sure does even out the load on your trailer and truck. Driving with it was a breeze, I would reccomend you adjust your driving style with a heavy load, longer time to get up to speed and more importantly, a longer stopping time is needed.
I didn’t notice much sway at all with big rigs driving by or with traffic wizzing by. My hitch did groan a bit while turning left and right but that can be alleviated by purchasing their grease or greasing it yourself.
Removing the sway/load distribution bars for backing is reccomended as it will groan a lot with the turning. I really like this product and I would reccomend it to others.
Do yourself a favor and buy the one with the pre-installed ball! I made the mistake of buying this one and have run into MANY installation problems. 1st, nobody locally has the right size ball in the right length shank.
2nd next we have to buy a 1 7/8″ socket to tighen it down. Needless to say we couldn’t get it on my trailer in time for the big haul due to said problems so we have not been able to use it yet therefore we can’t review anything else about it.

Installed the hitch in under 2 hours. We do not have access to a lift so space was tight under the car. The challenging part was lowering the dual exhaust prior to the hitch install and reattaching it after the install.
Installing the hitch went smooth. Definitely a two person job. I recommend watching some YouTube tutorials about installing it. One video said to use an adjustable strap to support the weight of the exhaust.
All in all, I recommend this hitch. Great hitch at an affordable price.
This hitch is a quality unit that looks good, built well, and easy to install. I am pleased with the way it turned out. If you normally work on cars and know your way around a wrench, you will have no problems.
If you are somewhat intimidated by this project, I recommend you give it a try. I installed mine in a 2012 Subary Forester and I had to move the mufflers out of the way, drill some holes larger, make a slot extending from two holes, and guide some bolts and backing plates through a channel in the body.
The slots are so you can get the backing plates into the channel in the Subaru. The backing plates are 1/4 in thick, so I used a 1/4 drill bit to drill a hole very close to the hole I needed to slot.
A hand file was used to remove the metal to transform the small hole into a slot. It is important to STUDY THE INSTRUCTIONS to use the supplied wires to fish the bolts and backing plates through the channel.
Since I consider myself a competent home mechanic, I only glanced at the instructions and spent an extra hour trying to remove the backing plate so I could install it again correctly. If the instructions are carefully followed, the backing plate and bolt installation is quick and easy.
Why use SAE fasteners on a Subaru? It sure made a simple installation difficult. Also, on a car whose towing capacity is 1000#, they clearly mark it as 4000#! Tips: 1. Use the box the hitch came in to lay on under the car.
You’ll be there a while. There are 5 muffler hangers. Spray liberally with WD40 and wear heavy gloves to remove. If your hands slip you are surrounded by razor sharp heat shield. A pry bar also helps.
2. There are four mounting holes, two on each side. The front large hole and the middle hole, 8 1/2″ back. I am a tool junkie, and do not have the 17/32″ bit called for to ream out the rear holes. I used a 1/2″ bit and ran it at high speed with little pressure–if you push too hard it will bind, if so just reverse the drill and start over.
After you get the bit thru put pressure on it to the sides to worry the hole a bit larger. Be sure that it’s large enough for the bolt with the fish wire to fit thru. Wear safety glasses!!!! 3. To get the bolts and the spacers inside the frame, the large front holes need to be ground larger.
Use a rat tail file or the side of a standard file fore and aft to make it big enough for the head of the bolt and the spacer to fit. The die grinder did not work well–I used an air powered file. Please wear safety glasses! Now mount the hitch as per the instructions.
Put WD40 on the muffler hangers again and reinstall the exhaust system. 4. The wiring kit is well designed, but the instructions are dim, barely legible, and tell you nothing but where to plug it in.
Run the wire with the white connector end behind the black sheet metal in the left rear if the tire compartment, to the side where its matching plug in the car is. Plug it in then run the end that connects to the trailer thru the 1 1/2″ hole in the floor of the front left tire compartment.
Remove the rubber plug in order to do this then cut the plug with a pair of scissors from the outside diameter to the center of the plug. Cut a place for the wire to go thru and reinstal.
The receiver was as advertised. Easy installation after I watched a couple of YouTube videos. It took me approximately one hour to install. Most importantly the price was great. No, it’s time to add a few more accessories.
Heavy, USA made hitch. The welds, looked very nice, no undercut and, no porosity. The powder coating, should keep it from rusting for a long time. No drilling so, you don’t mess up the coating. Grab a friend to help or, get creative.
I have only had it for a week, but hooked up and towed about 4000lbs of stumps. It didn’t break, so it does what it says it will do! It has integrity. Appearance is tough, be cause it’s a trailer hitch.
Ease of installation: I had never done this before, and it was easy to figure out, although the instructions certainly helped. Great price for a heavy piece of metal, and feels solid, so the quality is there.
It is something I would truly have to work at to break. Super stoked!.
There are many hitches for travel trailers that can be used depending on the situation. Some hitches are designed for use with a specific type of trailer, while others can be used with any type of trailer.
It is important to choose the right hitch for the job, as using the wrong hitch can damage the trailer or cause it to become detached from the tow vehicle.
Some of the most popular hitches for travel trailers include weight-distributing hitches, gooseneck hitches, and fifth-wheel hitches. Weight-distributing hitches are designed to distribute the weight of the trailer evenly over the axle of the tow vehicle.
This helps to prevent the tow vehicle from becoming overloaded and can make towing a heavy trailer much easier. Gooseneck hitches are designed for use with trailers that have a gooseneck coupler. Fifth-wheel hitches are designed for use with fifth-wheel trailers, which have a special hitch that is mounted in the bed of a pickup truck.
No matter what type of hitch is used, it is important to make sure that it is properly secured to the tow vehicle. This will help to prevent the trailer from becoming detached from the vehicle and will also help to protect the trailer from damage.
