20 Best Hiking Boots For Iceland (2023 Updated)

I’ve been using these boots 5 days a week for 3 months now and I truly enjoy these boots they are a tank that tracks through any terrain you can think of, without feeling a thing or even noticing romping though 2 inch sticks.

2 things to know before buying 1)they are very stiff at first. For me, it was a whole 2 weeks of stomping around before they had any give, they were still very comfortable, but I was literally walking around like Frankenstein though before they broke in enough for a normal gait, And now that they have, they are a still a solid (comfortable) boot that should last the test of time (hoping to get at least 3 years) 2) They are not light weight trail boots, I switched over to these from a pair of Solomon Quest 4D GTX Forces, and these(Desert Guides) are better but a completely different animal.

I really believe tank is the best description for the Desert Guides. When your feet are in a battle with elements you want them to be in a Cadillac lined tank, if that makes any sense. I will definitely buy another pair when if every my current pair dwindles in comfort.

They could use a bit longer laces though Kenetrek if your listening. I always Ankle wrap tie my boots for better ankle support and to keep down friction burns/ hot spots. The laces can do it, but just barely.

Also advise on weather or not the water repellent will adversely effect the breathability of the desert guide.

I’ll start with a disclaimer: I needed to buy a men’s size because Kennetrek doesn’t make women’s boots in a wide width (which they really should for this particular boot, please Kennetrek just make one boot in a women’s wide, especially this one), so I have to put up with a sloppy fitting heel, which is not the fault of the boot.

These boots are superbly constructed and will last a very long time. I have bad feet and have had surgery on them so I really appreciate a boot that is designed to be as orthopedically comfortable as possible.

I am on my feet working all day and put in at least 8 miles a day walking around and standing on various surfaces. I was hoping for a boot that was comfortable enough to wear all day and to wear on long hikes, but these boots need a little bit of softer under-toe cushioning for that.

Even my regular Asolo hiking boots (also mens) have under-toe cushioning. After about 4 hours the soles of the boots start to feel uncomfortably hard under the ball of my foot and especially under my toes.

Otherwise the footbed has great support and generally reduces fatigue. If my feet can get used to these boots enough to last all day or I can figure out how to give my toes a little more cush, I’ll buy another pair with insulation for winter.

I work as a forester so I am constantly looking for boots that are durable, keep my feet dry, and comfortable. After doing a little bit of research I thought I would give these boots a try. I bought them back in March from Cabelas and it’s now August and they are falling apart.

What I found was the rubber pieces on the boots keep coming off. I’m not sure the glue Keen used was strong enough. The toe caps are both hanging off and rubber parts on the sides have come off. I am pretty disappointed they didn’t last longer than 6months for the money they cost.

In addition, cabelas won’t stand behind their products. When I was checking out I asked what kind of warranty they had. The lady at the check out said 30 days but the boots have to be perfectly clean.

How can you actually use them without getting them dirty? I understand that I am harder on boots than the average person. However, these boots did not hold up better than some cheap ones I bought from Columbia.

I am on my third pair of these, and considering buying a fourth in the absence of a better option for the price. I walk a 5 kilometers (3. 1 miles) in 43 -44 minutes, twice a day, summer and winter, on paved sidewalks and gravel paths or on the snow above.

-35C with the wind today, and my feet were comfortable. Good cushion for impact for my application, but a bit thin under the ball for activity on rocky ground, or for digging a garden. Padded cuff keeps the snow out, except for very deep snow — and make for a poor fit with some pants cuffs.

Treads last a year for me, which is satisfactory for the price in my mind. Interior fabric wears through at the toe about the same time. Inner toe cap is plastic, which does not breathe, and cracks, which might becomes a greater friction point if it now splinters.

I note the image on Cabela’s shows the speed hooks each have two anchor points, but this is not what I have received and is not what I see on the Timberland site. Mine have one anchor point, and one of the hooks on a earlier pair pulled out under light use.

I cobbled a fix for it so got my year of use out of it. Two anchor point would for sure be better. By measure on one of the old metal foot scales, my size is 13+3/4, so a size 14 practically speaking.

I found the size 14 in the Flume was too small, which may be due to the fact that I wear heavy wool socks, always. The size 15 is a little bit loose, which I greatly prefer over a little bit tight. Overall, these boots are “Satisfactory”.

Not outstanding. Not great. But most certainly not “BAD”. With size 14 or 15, “Satisfactory” meets my needs and I am glad to have them. Relatively good value for the price.

About 3 weeks ago I bought my 4th pair of the Ladies Terrain H2O boots. Wore my first 2 pairs out walking the dog 3-5 miles a day, running errands and even wore them to work on snowy days. Third pair I bought (all the same size) were a little tighter.

I tried wearing them but one boot was really tight and even after 6-8 months, it never stretched out so I gave them away. I was disappointed and chose to go with something else for a while, but it was just not the same.

So I went into Farm Family and Home to try them on and make sure they fit properly. They did! Nothing like the last pair I had. Quality is hard to control when they are made overseas, I get that. These fit a little looser and are a bit more comfortable out of the box, but don’t seem to be as warm in the cold weather, not do they seem to have quite the same quality to the leather – almost like it it not as thick.

Foot beds do not seem as cushiony either. I have other Ariat shoes and boots that are a bit older, still in great shape and they seem to be of better quality. That’s just my opinion. These will work for the time being, but I’m not so sure there will be another pair in my future.

I would love to have a pair of the black, but I’m on the fence. I will see how these hold up for the next few months. What I am saying is don’t expect too much for this price point.

I bought these boots to wear for gardening and yard work with the idea that I could also wear them for hiking. I like that they have a heel so I can wear them for riding if I decide to try (my daughter rides which is why I shop at Dover).

I ordered a size down from what I typically wear for boots or sneakers and these boots fit with a mid-weight hiking sock. The boots feel very supportive through the sole and shank and have good arch support with the included sturdy thick insoles.

For one of my feet, the boots fit perfectly. For the other, which has a very flat arch, I added a Super Feet orthotic insole. I am so happy that these boots have removable insoles! I have not yet worn the boots enough to comment on the durability or other functionality, but I like that they have extra layer of rubber-like material at the toe and the back of the heel.

When I do yard and garden work I the to get lazy and dig shallow trenches with my toe instead of going to get a shovel or hoe so the reinforced toe will be helpful. I can comfortably wear them with a midweight cushioned hiking sock.

I have purchased numerous Terrain Waterproof boots for the last 10 years. Something has happened with the quality of these and other Ariat boots. In fact, at the horse rescue ranch where I volunteer, a few of the other gals agree with me about this significant decline in quality (and increase in price!).

This review is for the latest pair of Terrain Waterproof boots I bought about two years ago. I wear these boots twice per week at the ranch for about 5 hours each day. My feet are KILLING me by the time I’m done and this did not start happening until my last pair (which I replaced with these and now have to replace again – but this time with a different brand).

Also, my feet feel like they are on fire after my day is done. I’m just really sad that Ariat quality has taken a tumble – there were so many years where their women’s boots were unbeatable. I gave them two stars because they are still pretty well waterproofed!.

I found these online. They weren’t in the store. Very happy. I can wear these anywhere and they keep my feet comfortable for as long as I wear them. I chose these over Merrell Moab 2 because even though those boots are very comfortable too, they look like hiking boots and are not fit for dress-casual events.

These definitely are.

Fantastic boot, really comfortable from the first time you put them on, you can feel the quality in them. I went from a Regatta Alpha Pro VXT which I found great and so comfortable, but these are just that much better, a different league.

I was initially a little hesitant in purchasing Salomon’s as some reviews said you need to go a size up if you have a wide foot. I got my own size 11 and they fit perfect. There is plenty of toe room, I’m not getting any rub off them from walking, they feel very supportive over rough terrain and the grip has been great so far.

I was debating between the Ultra, the 4d and the quest 4’s. I got the Quest Prime at a great deal and I am very happy I went for them now. They are high enough to totally protect your ankle too. The only thing was I ordered the boots with the red on them and got the all black, but I am still happy with them.

Hopefully many happy years with them.

Hello, want to share my experience as these boots seem to be popular but please explore your options. These are my first Goretex Boots and I wish I stayed with leather – these Solomon’s go down as my worst investment in outdoor gear.

I’ve had them for 8 months and hiked roughly 350km. My first set developed big cracks on both heels during my “break in” phase (within 3 weeks). I returned them and it happened again on my current pair.

I recommend NOT getting these boots because: – The heel of the boot cracks/becomes unglued quickly. It’s happened on 3 of the 4 Solomon boots (see picture). The design of the sole seems to have big flaws.

– The glue around the toe rand is starting to come undone, same in a couple other spots. Bad quality/workmanship. – Very painful pressure point on the outside ankle where the “main foot lace” sits. I’ve put an insole in to help, but it’s still there especially on long hikes.

– Water is soaking into the materials of the boot, even with proper leather treatment and boot storage. – Goretex membrane is compromised I believe – boot is starting to get wet with the rain, despite treatments (it’s not sweat).

Once this membrane is worn out, the boot won’t have its waterproof ness. I expect a pair or boots to last at least 3-4 years, I haven’t even gotten 1 year. I am not confident these will last much longer and I don’t trust them on my outdoor hikes.

I don’t normally leave bad reviews, but I’m frustrated in Solomon’s quality and you should be aware. Thanks, Patrick.

I bought my pair of Quest GTX boots in 2014. They have been hiking and hunting all over Idaho, Eastern WA and OR, and Montana. These boots have held up awesome. Can’t say enough about them. They are the most well rounded boots I have ever owned.

They’ve been punished in the rocks, mud, snow, creek crossings, and deserts. I’m a big guy at ~250lbs with gear and they have held up well. At over 6 years in these boots I have to say I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

They’re light, have awesome support, awesome grip. They wear more like a running shoe than a boot which is a point of compromise where you trade a little stability for comfort/weight in more situations.

The only negative I can say is that my toes get cold under 30° regardless of my sock choice, but that’s not even a negative because this is an uninsulated boot. I’m sad to say they’re starting to break down as my feet have been getting sore after long days in these boots where they haven’t before and they’re starting to let water in so it’s time for a new pair.

These are the perfect boot for hiking/backpacking and can be used for mountain hunting, but may not be the best choice for every situation. If you’re looking to buy one pair of boots that will perform well in most situations these are them.

I have been pleased with my purchase of these Timberland hiking boots. I have not taken them out hiking, per se, just wearing them with jeans for errands and whatever. That was my intention as I’m not convinced, they would hold up for repeated long hikes and bouldering.

meaning they are not waterproof, (I sprayed them with a protectant spray) and are a thinner leather around the front ankles. The sole seems to be pretty tough so shorter hikes I could see them doing just fine.

These boots, for me, required no break in time and just all-around comfortable on day one. They run slightly narrow (as do some of the other Timberland hiking boots, that’s why I can’t wear them), but these boots fit just right even with a sock, so the width has not been an issue.

I normally wear a size 7 in boots, but these 6. 5 fit great, even have some wiggle room. A slight, annoying frustration is that the laces come untied and/or loose often. Overall, these lightweight, comfortable, sharp-looking boots have gotten me lots of compliments.

I’m always reading reviews before choosing shows on DSW. Surprisingly, people praise these hiking boots. Yes, they look great, light weight, seem to be comfortable. I got my size, it fits perfect everywhere.

However, any time I wear it hiking (3-5 miles) I get huge bleeding blisters on one foot (back above the heel), and also a smaller blister on the other foot. The soft panel in the back is supposed to provide buffer, but it is not enough.

I wear it with good socks, nothing helps. If I could, would return it. Put something under the heel to make my foot to sit higher. Will see if it works. Waste of money.

I really appreciate this brand! I always have. And with the Cheyenne Valley hiking boot it’s just another great investment in my closet! The boot is comfortable, and it’s form fitting around the foot.

The arch support is medium and the leather is firm, but not hard as a rock. These are not steel toed, and I suggest waterproofing these if you’re going to be rugged with this model. Great for rural and urban environments as well.

Got the black. Like the Kinsley style, size 7 was perfect for my wide-at-the-toes 7-7. 5 feet. PERFECT comfort right out of the box–love the arch support and foamy insoles. I have metatarsal pain in hard-insole boots and, unlike 90% of boots, these are great.

For sure designed for all-day wear. The wedge gives them both solid balance and an aesthetic edge. Your feet look TINY, too (if you care about such things. ).
