20 Best High Protein Puppy Food (2023 Updated)

This food has been a lifesaver! My Golden Retriever puppy started with Diamond since that’s what he was eating when we got him, but was having loose stools. The vet recommended we transition to Purina Pro Plan, so we did.

While I know that is a tried and true brand, for my pup, he ended up with diarrhea literally 8 times a day to the point that he started losing weight. After a week of no improvement, I hard switched him to Nutro Ultra after reading reviews of people with the same issue and being too worried to take the time to transition.

It worked! Within a day and a half, he was having normal stools in both consistency and frequency. He loves the taste and his tummy loves the ingredients. He’s been on Nutro Ultra food now for 2 months and is growing exactly as he should with soft and shiny fur.

Best guess is the probiotics in Diamond and Purina didn’t agree with him. Whichever food you end up using for your large breed puppy, make sure to check the bag for this label “This food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages, including growth of large sized dogs”.

Large breed puppies/dogs require lower calcium to control their growth rate – too fast of growth can contribute to hip/elbow dysplasia which will affect them for life. The previously mentioned label will let you know the food formula meets the large breed calcium requirement without you needing to be an expert on ratios.

Nutro Ultra has this important label!.

We recently acquired a Great Pyrenees pup. We started him on Nutro Large Breed Puppy Lamb and Rice and he had very large, very loose stools and was quite itchy, which I attributed to the food change.

The loose stools continued for almost two weeks. I again changed his food, this time to Nutro Ultra Large Breed Chicken, Lamb and Salmon. Within 2 days the loose stools were gone and the amount of stool was reduced by half.

He ceased itching so much and now the other two dogs want his food, too!.

We rescued a puppy and took him to the vet. He was full of worms. I knew we needed a good food for him, so started looking. Our vet recommended a large breed puppy food. This food fits the bill for the time being.

Our pup eats it relatively well, but I do have to add some sort of yumminess on top of it. I like that it has antioxidants and good fats in it, as well as some grains. It seems a little low on the protein compared to other large breed puppy foods.

I so wanted to be able to give 5 stars because this food has the best ingredients and I wanted what was best for my mixed large breed puppy, but she absolutely hates this food. I did a long transition to this from Taste of the Wild because she’s allergic to eggs which is an ingredient in Taste of the Wild so her food made her super itchy.

She ate these kibbles fine during the transition period, but once it was just this brand on its own, she refused to eat it. We thought she was sick at first, but when we gave her a scoop of our senior Lab’s food, she scarfed it.

She just absolutely hates this formula and won’t touch it. We even tried mixing our Lab’s food with it and she picked out the Lab’s food and ate that but left all of this. At 16 weeks old, she scarfs anything and everything except this food sooo now I’m out $60+ and back to trying to find a good food without eggs for this large breed pup.

It’s frustrating. I definitely suggest buying a very small bag to start. No idea what I’m going to do with all this food she hates.

When we first got our 2 big dogs, the breeder had them on another brand of food but I could tell they weren’t really a fan of it as they would never get excited about breakfast or dinner. So, after many hours of research, I found Wellness CORE and compared it to what the breeder was feeding and found that it was actually a much better food for my dogs! I really like that it’s tailored specifically for larger breed doggos so I knew that they were getting everything they needed without having to add any supplements to their food.

They also go absolutely NUTS for this stuff, I can even smell the meatiness in the kibble myself 😂 They LOVE their Wellness bikkies and we will definitely be moving them onto the adult version when they’re old enough 😚👌.

Our Golden puppy switched from another brand that was recommended by her breeder. Dog enjoyed this dry food at first, and then she started to take time to finish them. I am still searching best dry food for her, so I switched to another brand.

She seems to be enjoying another brand, but I prefer this food’s ingredients. We may come back to this brand. I do recommend this product. Only one problem is this brand does not have smaller bag, so people can’t try it out first.

We received both the chicken and the beef through Influenster. We did a ‘taste test’ and my dog went straight to the beef rather than the chicken. Eventually she ate the chicken, but the beef was the obvious favorite.

The food was very soupy and had a surplus of liquid sitting on the top. Although you could see bits of rice, it looked like mush. I prefer to be able to recognize the components of the food rather than it being a blob.

Regardless, my dog liked it. We will be sticking with our current wet food (Grammy’s Pot Pie).

My GSD pup needed to gain some weight (as just dry food wasn’t cutting it for his quick growth) and I couldn’t find a wet food I liked to meet his high energy and shepherd nutrional needs. This product came out at exactly the right time and he has never been more himself and filling out nicely since I started adding this into his Royal Canin.

What was originally a temporary purchase has quickly became a daily part of his diet. You definitely get what you pay for and I just bought his third case!.

Perfect for the high energy pups that run around all day and then tank at the end of the night, for that all night sleep. My sweet little angel baby loves either chicken or beef doesn’t matter because she eats it like it’s the last meal on earth.

The stuff has helped maintain her weight because of how high energy she is (I swear she burns more than she eats) so this is the perfect little treat at the end of the day for her.

My dog absolutely LOVES this food. He was already on another Purina Pro Plan dry food (Complete Essentials Shredded Blend Chicken and Rice), so he already loved the flavor, and I already loved the quality of, the Pro Plan product line.

Sport Performance, however, contains an even higher ratio of protein (30%) and fat (20%), ensuring my dog gets even more bang for my buck! I love that the first two ingredients are beef and rice–it is a testament to the quality of the ingredients Purina uses.

Purina also takes great care to create a well-balanced and nutritional meal, including–among other things–adding glucosamine for joints, omega fatty acids for a healthy coat, and probiotics to aid in digestion.

While my dog may not be a canine athlete, I’m glad I can feed him like one. My dog also loves the food (although his standards are lower than mine, ha ha). In short, Purina Pro Plan offers high quality and nutritious food for your faithful companion.

If you’re in the market for a new food for your furry friend (or just want to mix things up for a treat), my dog and I would highly recommend Purina Pro Plan Sport Performance 30/20 Beef and Bison!.

I tried this out with my two german shepherds. I found it interesting that this food specifically mentions having glucosamine. I actually already buy glucosamine and chondroitin for them to try and keep their joint’s heathy.

So a little extra couldn’t hurt I figured. Unfortunatly the bag isn’t super specific about how much is actually in each scoop of kibble. It lists it at 500ppm of the entire foods composition, which seems like a tiny amount.

Im not sure how that translates into milligrams. The supplements have 300mg per serving. 500ppm seems super small. I’m also not a huge fan of all the types of corn used. It in some form is the 4th and 5th ingredients, and again as the 8th.

That’s a lot of corn filler. My boys didn’t seem too bothered by the taste however. I’m not sure this is the right food for me given those reasons.

Harper has Addison’s disease, is a picky eater and is generally moody, fussy, and anxious (she’s gorgeous and floofy as all get out though, so I cater to her more than my human children). I have had to mix and change her foods over the years to get her to be interested in it.

This often involves cooking up chicken breast, carrots, bone broth, pumpkin, etc. to add to her kibble. My husband SIMPLY CANNOT come to realize that the fresh cooked add ins are not for him despite the post it notes in all CAPS saying, “FOR HARPER.

” But I digress…. I added this dry food to her dry food that she was already used to and she seemed to enjoy it very much. My husband also stays away from it which is a huge bonus. I watch her poop like it is a paid part time job and she has been quite regular since adding this to her diet.

I received this in a vox box, but will definitely purchase if I can continue to keep my husband away from it.

After getting our puppy who had originally been on Kirkland puppy food, we switched to wellness core because it was rated one of the best dog foods. However, we noticed that our puppy struggled to adjust to it.

She wouldn’t eat out of her dog bowl so we thought that was the problem so we switched the dog bowl. But even then she still seemed hesitant with the food. She’d only eat one piece at a time and she hardly ever finished a full meal which was on 1/4 a cup 3 times a day.

We decided to switch her food to Hills Science diet puppy food and she devours it and then cries for more. Not sure if the size of the food was too big or she didn’t like the taste, but for us we just didn’t have success with this brand of dog food.

I would recommend people to try it though because it is a good brand, but just like humans dogs have specific taste and texture preferences.

Our Buddy had so many problems: he was allergic to almost everything: his skin was bad with serious scabby lessons over his body causing him to scratch all the time and ooze a terrible odor. He always stunk.

He was sickly and had to have several surgeries, the last was removal of his spleen and a tumor on the liver. none cancerous thank God. He was so weak we thought on a few occasions we could lose him and prayed hard which brought him through.

Due to the numerous allergies we cooked for him. turkey with every known mineral and vitamin added. yet he continued to have all these problems UNTIL (drum roll here) I found CORE WELLNESS WILD GAME kibble and decided it didn’t have anything he was allergic to so gave it a try.

He ate it like he was starving and began thriving. All the lesions are now gone and his coat is shiny and healthy looking: no more scratching: no stinking at all: he’s stronger and healthier than he has been since a pup.

I am completely sold on WELLNESS CORE. Reading the ingredients it seems they have thought of every thing his little body needs. I can’t recommend this product enough. AND as an aside. after feeding it to him for some time I discovered something in it he was supposed to be allergic to but hey, I didn’t stop using it due to him having such a great comeback physically.

This past July we brought our dog Champ to the vet and we’re shocked to learn his weight was pushing 90lbs. He is a 5 yo male golden retriever and keeping his weight down has always been a struggle, but 89.

5lbs was a shock. Our vet recommended looking into a lower calorie or weight loss food from the same brand we were already using. We cut back the table scraps somewhat, but overall we didn’t change much other than Champs food.

We brought him to the vet just to get weighed a month ago and HE LOST 10 LBS!!!!! We had started to notice his energy level was a little higher but we never would have thought he lost 10 lbs. This food definitely works! We are continuing to use it for now until he sheds a few more pounds but we could not be happier with the results!!.

At the WA Dingo Association we try and feed as close to an ancestral diet at we can for the Dingoes This includes raw foods and meaty bones along with good quality natural grain free kibble as a large portion of their diet.

We have been feeding the Wellness CORE Ocean Fish for a while and the Dingbats all love that! To add some variety, we decided the to try Wild Game recipe as well. OMG, they went NUTZ for it. 🐕🐕🐕 Dingoes are rarely food motivated, but they got totally excited with this formula.

Opening the bag, you could smell the meat content, so could they obviously. Nice to be able to add another variety to their diet that comes as close to ancestral feeding as you can get without having to go full Bear Grylls.

We also use this now as our pocket treat training bites. Highly recommend the Wild Game for Dingoes and and any pooch that is a Dingo at heart! Leigh – President, West Australian Dingo Association.

I started giving my corgi puppy this good from the time I got him (obviously transitioning him slowly from breeder food to this) and it was reluctant at first but I thought it could be just because he wasn’t food motivated and stressed because of being in a new environment.

However, it never warmed up to it and I had to mix Ollie fresh food with it for him to even touch it. The only reason I didn’t return it was because I thought he’d start liking it (obviously was wrong) and because the nutritional value is so great, and the fact that protein is so high with lower crude fat which is essential for corgis as they need higher protein but prone to weight gain (and yes I know puppies shouldn’t worry about weight gain but still).

After the bag was done (when he was 6 months) I changed him to Orijen puppy food and boy let me tell you, he LOVES meal time now. More than Ollie fresh food and definitely more than this food. So I’d recommend this food IF your puppy will eat it.

The kibble is also larger and harder than Orijen kibble and other puppy foods, just a warning for smaller/medium size puppies.

I recently changed from Purina Pro Plan Puppy to Purina Pro Plan adult as our Corgi had her first birthday. It was one of the foods her vet recommended. Our previous Corgi was on Hill’s Science Diet, but Anni (current Corgi) didn’t seem to care for it so I switched to the Purina Pro Plan Shredded blend.

She was a bit finicky when we brought her home at 8 weeks, but likes the Pro Plan quite well. She’s very healthy and VERY active. I appreciate the convenience of ordering the food through Chewy and especially the quick delivery time.

We used Chewy and their automatic delivery system with our previous Corgi and have signed up for that service with our Anni. It’s a very easy process that you can adjust to your own personal neefs.

I’ve bought many bags of this shredded chicken and rice formula. Several bags have a little light colored I ASSUME is the shredded chicken and the smaller round rice – you can tell there are 2 distinct pieces of something.

This bag has nothing but the small round pieces obviously the shredded chicken is marketing nothing. My dogs noticed it and slowed eating so I bake and mix chicken now. Bag says shredded blend- IT IS NOT for this bag and other bags skimp.

It’s not Chewys fault, but Purina quality control is bad. I can not recommend this, and while I still buy it I am not pleased. I also buy Hill’s Science chicken stew and mix it with this “shredded blend”.

Purina Pro Plan is my go-to dog food for my “kids”. The small breed formula has added probiotics, glucosamine, and a higher protein content which is great for my active Rat Terrier/Chihuahua and Dachshund.

All vets I’ve seen have always recommended Purina Pro Plan and even feed it to their personal dogs, which says a lot to me. The shredded formula is a favorite because my dogs love the added “chicken” bits they get in their food and the small-sized kibble which makes it easy for my little ones to chew.

Unlike many other brands, I was surprised at how many chicken bits come in the food, which is a lot. My dogs eat every last bit at meal times. I highly recommend this product!.

I own a super picky Cane Corso. I mean, when it comes to people food he turns his nose up at anything with sugar or anything processed. even meat. Processed lunchmeat. nope. Real ham or loin, beef, chicken yes.

He likes this dog food. After reading the ingredients so do I. A friend of mine was boasting about the dog food he feeds, saying I should try Kane on it. Pedigree High Protein. 27% Protein 12% Fat. First ingredients Ground whole grain corn, meat and bone meal (source of calcium) The next is kind of a meat.

chicken by-product meal ?????? I dont remember a time I fed store food to my dogs but I am shocked people buy it. Read the ingredients of any Taste of the Wild food. It is a known fact wild meat naturally caries a higher vitamin content.

I applaud the makers of this food that they make it available for my dog. Yes, it costs a little more. But my dog is a giant and he has NO joint issues, bone issues, or structure issues. His coat glistens and feels softer than smooth velvet, he is extremely curious and smart as a whip.

I can teach him most things in a few minutes. and his energy level makes it easy to keep him well muscled and in excellent shape. and he likes it.

I used to buy Taste of the Wild from a pet food chain until they suddenly discontinued it – which coincidentally was around the same time that Fleet Farm started selling it. Taste of the Wild was considered to be one of the top high quality brands among all the other expensive featured dog foods at the other retailer.

Now you can get it at a fraction of the cost at Fleet Farm. I am thrilled because this has been my choice of dog food for many years. My dogs never get tired of it. They scarf it down so fast I don’t know how they actually enjoy it – other than their sense of smell.

I buy various flavors to change things up once in a while and one thing that makes my pups super happy is that I top the hard food with Taste of the Wild’s canned food. Just add a teaspoon of that in their bowl and there won’t be one crumb left in the bowl.

Healthy food, high quality, and you will not get a better price anywhere. Don’t buy junk food for you pets. get this product. Your pets will thank you.

All dry food is garbage made from mostly plant material and junk, and disguised as a meat product. That said, I think this one isn’t as bad as most. I think it’s better than some that sell for nearly twice as much.

However, it was one of the many brands of grain-free dog foods that caused congestive heart failure in many thousands of dogs by not providing enough taurine. Taste of the Wild now adds taurine, so I presume that is resolved.

Luckily, I feed my dogs 50% dry and 50% raw meat and organs, so they had plenty of taurine. Most TotW varieties also have a pretty terrible Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio. The ratio for dogs (and humans) should be 4:1, but TotW varieties range anywhere from 10:1 to nearly ideal (in 1 variety).

If you feed this food (or almost any food), you should balance the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio with added omega-3s. I use human grade fish oil. Finally, the formula changes almost continuously. Thats true of all TofW dry foods, and many other dry foods.

Each variety used to have at least 4 fresh meat types listed 1st, then meat meal type, then vegetable matter as tubers and legumes, then chicken fat. The brand gradually went through changes that reduced the fresh meat, increased the legumes and tubers, changed the fat sources to suboptimal plant oils (high in omega-6, among other things), replaced good meat protein with questionable “egg product,” and then even that animal protein source with such trash as pea protein, all to increase their profit margin even as the brand has made huge gains in popularity availability which, clearly, already increases profits exponentially.

There really isn’t a good excuse for the decrease in quality, but it happens with every brand of dog food I’ve ever (initially) been happy with. So READ the LABEL on EVERY BAG. Take a picture of the ingredients, and watch for those sneaky changes.

There will soon come a time when Taste of the Wild is just as bad as any other brand, and it’ll be time to find another little company that hasn’t (yet) made profit margins their sole focus.

I have a Pomeranian and tried many different foods. My dog started having seizures and a recurring luxating patella. I tried Eukanuba and after a couple weeks or so, I noticed my dog stopped having seizures and stopped limping!!! I later tried another higher priced brand just to test my theory out and she started having seizures again!!! I went back to Eukanuba and the seizures stopped!!! I truly believe there is something different in the Eukanuba formula that makes a difference!!! I will never ever use anything else!!! It has been about 5-6 years since I switched exclusively to Eukanuba and still no seizures and no limp!!! EUKANUBA is the best!!.

I was feeding Fromm grain free puppy food for the past 7 months. Read some articles about how your puppy needs the nutrients that are in grain. Decided to transition them over to Eukanuba small breed puppy food.

They absolutely love it. During the last part of the transition, they kept sorting through the food to eat just the Eukanuba. There poop is solid and they seem to have to more energy. So glad we switched.

Highly recommended.

I have used Eukanuba Puppy food for years. It is higher in protein than most puppy food and satisfies the puppy’s hunger with less product. They are seemingly more healthy and energetic with Eukanuba.

I usually continue it throughout their adult life. It is out for the dogs constantly. Therefore, if they get hungry they do not overeat thinking they might not get more and therefore get overweight. I highly recommend Eukanuba Puppy Chiots!.

Was previously feeding him Blackhawk Puppy since we took him home at 2mo as that was what he was fed by the breeder. Always noticed frequent and foul smelling (like eggs) fart. The kind of farts that would kill an entire village.

🙂 Fed him BHawk 3 x a day, he didn’t have trouble finishing his am (2hrs to finish) & evening feed although he took his time to do it, but struggled to always finish his lunch portion which is only half a cup.

After changing to Royal Canin, he’s always demolished all 3 feeds in record time (1-2mins) and constantly looking at me for extra servings! 🙂 I’ve had to increase his lunch serve to a full cup now too.

He absolutely loves it from day 1. It’s been a week now. From the first second day on wards, I’ve also noticed significant change in his farts. Now less frequent and mildly noticeable as it is not smelly anymore.

Family never notice the smell anymore but I do as I have a sensitive nose and WFH, so he is constantly next to me. His poops have also been slightly smaller and much firmer. We both love this kibble! Highly recommend.

There’s plenty of cheaper priced and cheaper made brands of dog food and of course more expensive. We researched what our dog needed in terms of nutrition etc. This was the closest we could find without paying alot more.

Our pup loves it, she’s regular and no tummy upset with it. She’s not begging or looking for food in between meals so it’s filling her up. The only thing I don’t like and most brands do this, they base the amount on what size dog she will be not what weight she is now.

There’s a huge range of weight for some breeds like ours a Border Collie so there’s a risk of over feeding or under feeding. Otherwise we’re happy, she’s happy.

Hey guys, I am very pleased to give a 5 star rating for Purina puppy chow tender and crunchy – Beef puppy food! Our little Rosie, a 5 month old Golden Retriever was struggling with a sensitive tummy, loose stools and wanting to go poop frequently throughout the day.

We tested her for worms, Giardia and other stuff multiple times and all tests came back negative. Also we keep her very insulated and avoid dog parks and never allow her to eat poop. So we knew that her old food (Authority tender blend beef) was likely the reason for her tummy travails.

I researched puppy foods online and found this particular food to have great reviews and so I bought a small 5 pound bag as a trial. And I was so anxious to switch her food to something else that I simply gave her Purina puppy chow tender and crunchy – Beef by itself.

She LOVED the taste and wolfed it down. Almost immediately, her poops started to come out well formed (turdy. ) – no joke. As I write this feedback it’s been a week since we switched and Rosie’s transformation has been night and day! She enjoy’s the food, she seems more energetic, her coat looks lusher and MAINLY, her poops are ALL well formed and normal! Thanks Purina! Please don’t ever discontinue this food or change its composition in any way!.

This is the food that our breeder uses for her Labrador Retriever puppies and we’ve kept ours on the same recipe for the 9 months that we’ve had our pup so far. Feeding on the lower end of the recommended amounts, our girl is healthy, sharp-minded and has a very shiny coat.

Also important: she has regular, solid poops (no stomach issues). Our vet said if it’s working well, then keep using it and don’t be fooled by boutique “grain free” brands like Blue Buffalo. Every dog is different, but this recipe has given us zero issues and it’s very economical to boot! Hope it works out for others as well! We plan to transition to Purina Pro Plan when the time comes.

My little puppy was the runt and while he was a good eater he had to be in the mood to eat. I started him off on the Purina One puppy food and noticed he seemed to eat but just not really enjoy it as much as his tiny milk bones.

I decided to get a small bag of puppy chow made with beef. It’s one of the few that offers anything other than chicken for puppies. I gradually mixed it with his other food and he sounded like a garbage disposal! He has put on weight and is growing in length too.

He is super healthy and his coat looks good. If he is awake he is playing and running around. I think he is just a dog that isn’t crazy about chicken. I’m glad that Purina has this alternative.

My German shepherd loves this food. I tried Royal Canin, Science Diet, Merrick and they all gave my girl diarrhea but whole hearted changed that, she’s been having the nicest stools since I found this food for her.

It keeps her nice and trim considering she’s so active and I had a hard time putting some weight on her when she was younger, she’s currently 10 months. My other two pitties love it as well and all their coats are so soft and shiny.

Will never switch.

We had so many issues finding the perfect food for our GSD pup. He is now 1 year old but before this food he had bad bowel movements and was not keeping any weight. We had tried different well known brands and nothing seemed to be working for him.

We finally gave up and started him on prescribed food which is quite expensive. After looking into this one, we decided to try it and after just 1 bag my GSD has definitely put on some weight. His bowel movements have been perfect since the very first serving.

He also enjoys eating it and savors it slowly. The price is also incomparable!.

I just want to start by saying that Pedigree has certainly come a long way since my first time buying it. I received a promotional incentive to purchase this specific dog food and was pleasantly surprised to find that Pedigree has a high protein dog food.

As soon as I got home, I served my big boy up a bowl of this food, and wow, I had never witnessed him gobble up his food so quickly. I had to stop him between mouthfuls so he wouldn’t choke. For the longest time, I was opposed to buying dog food from the grocery store, opting to buy the more expensive stuff from the pet store (with good intention), always being told that it is “healthier”.

I took the time to read the ingredients on this bag of dog food and feel confident feeding my dog Pedigree. My little dog even licked the bowl after my bigger guy was finished eating LOL. I will definitely be purchasing this dog food in the future.

My lab mix Clyde can be a fussy eater when it comes to dry dog food. He often gets bored with his food and we have to have several he likes on hand so we can rotate them. This is his first time trying Pedigree High Protein Beef and Lamb flavor and we now have a new food we can add to his menu rotation.

He loves it! He finished off the sample amount we poured for him and made it known he wanted more. He’s been eating it for his morning meal daily for the last week and he doesn’t leave any kibble in his bowl.

For him, it’s all about the taste. For me, I like the quality of ingredients, high protein and nutrient content and the fact that it’s made in the USA. He’s already almost finished with this smaller bag, so we’re off to buy a large size for our big boy.

I started feeding my dogs Pedigree High Protein With Red Meat Beef & Lamb dry dog food and all 5 of our dogs like this food. I like that it doesn’t contain any high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors nor any added sugars.

I like Pedigree products, so this dry kibble dog food is great for our dogs. The kibble size is perfect for our dogs and the amount of kibble hardness makes for a good amount of crunch in helping to keep our dog’s teeth clean.

The variety of kibble shapes and textures is very nice too. I especially like that this dog food is made in the USA. It’s visually appealing, even though that is of no interest to the dogs. Also there has been no change in our dogs’ stool texture nor in the amount of stool they produce since they’ve been eating this kibble.

My 100lb 8 yr old German Shepard/ Lab mix developed sensitive tummy, digestive issues. He had been on the same food all his adult life. He continued to be fed the same time but he was no longer eliminating at predictable times.

He had either diarrhea or very soft loose stools. He was tested twice for parasites and bacterial infections which were negative. I tried him on 3 different foods with no change. He started loosing weight.

The vet recommended a prescription food which was $35 for an 8lb bag. He is 100lbs, 8lbs doesn’t last a week! He was miserable and so was I. I decided to try Nutro Ultra Senior. He liked it, ate it, and his problem disappeared in 24 hours.

It has been 3 months with no reoccurrence. He is back to a healthy 100 lbs, his coat is shiny, he is not scratching, and has great energy. I think he must have developed an allergy to something in his other food that Nutro does not have.

We’re so glad to have tried Nutro. I’m keeping him on it for sure. 8 yrs old is elderly for a dog his size. I want him to live a long life and be healthy and comfortable. Diet is important and Nutro has been great at restoring his health.

My dog recently turned 12, and it has always been a chore to try and find food that she enjoys and is able to digest. After trying out a handful of brands, and even making the switch to wet food, I came across Nutro.

I was at a friend’s place and my dog went to their pup’s food bowl and chowed it down, only to find out it was Nutro dry food. She loves it! I now incorporate a bit of wet food into her Nutro kibble in order to get the best of both worlds for her, but I cannot stress enough how often she was vomiting her dry food; I have had NO issues with Nutro! Not only does she keep it down, but she also has great number two’s now.

The kibble is tiny and designed for senior dogs, which makes it easy for my pup to digest and eat (even with only 5 teeth left). They also are ethical in their practices and utilize quality ingredients.

Now, I can find a bag of Nutro at my local Target. No more runs to the specialty pet store! Highly recommend.

The price was good, non-gmo ingredients, sounds awesome! Mia loves chicken and Leo is ok with chicken. First day I tried giving them this food they just kept turning away, they ate some food but not a single time for almost a week now have finished a whole serving.

Mia almost did. Leo eats half at most with me even hand feeding him multiple times through out the day till he just refuses. I even cut out their treats before this food so they can rely on this for calories.

Previously they were on raw, which is why I couldn’t slowly introduce it to them easily. Though it shouldnt be this bad to where Leo starved himself for a day. Thankfully Chewy support amazing as always gave me a refund.

We breed Golden Retrievers and Goldendoodles and this is all we feed our pregnant, nursing mothers and puppies. We found out the brand we previously used had components starting to be made overseas, after having some sick mommas and babies, it’s a $75 bag brand too.

We found this in our local co-op and decided to give it a go. It is the best food. Fewer poops and firm poops which is what you want raising puppies. We encourage all of our owners to feed this and advertise regularly on our Facebook page of 3400 and my Facebook group of 7,000 people.

I scream it from the rooftops how much we love this food! Also, our puppies have the shiniest coats too!.

The food seems to be good and my 10 week old puppy loves it. Since this food contains live cultures of some kind, what is the recommended storage temperature? We generally keep our food on an enclosed porch and I noticed that the smell of the food is pretty strong.

Temps are in the 90s so it’s a least 90 F on the porch if not a little more. Thank you.

I recently got a bag of the puppy food and the chemical smell will knock you out! I can’t feed this crap to my pup. Total waist of money.

My Boxer/German Shepherd mix, Merry, is now almost 6 months old. When I got her at 9 weeks she was being feed an expensive “designer” no grain food. Her stools were loose and smelly. The vet then told me that dogs are having cardiac issues that are suspected to be related to no grain foods.

So I changed her food to another expensive food, slowly weaning her off the first food only to create gas problems. (Boxers are known for their ability to clear a room!). Years ago I raised an Irish Wolfhound puppy (who lived 10 years!) on Iams large breed so I started Merry on it.

No gas, smaller stools, proper growth rate, happy puppy, and dog food bill cut in half.

Oscar loved this kibble, very interested while I was measuring it out. AS soon as I pit the bowl down Oscar tucked in and kibble was eaten within seconds. Paddy had a good smell of the kibble before quickly emptying the bowl.

Bella was a little more wary and spent a few minutes longer smelling the kibble before trying it. Bella did finish up all of the kibble which is unusual for her. So all dogs give this kibble a thumbs up! The kibble was well packed to keep it fresh, it had a fantastic meaty aroma which is apparent as soon as you open the bag.

The kibbles are good size for most dogs and the shape will help keep teeth free from plaque. I liked that I could reseal the bag to keep the kibble fresh. I think the price of this kibble is very reasonable for the quality of the food.

My dogs and myself would recommend this kibble as it wil;l suit most dogs and provide a tasty balanced diet. As Bella is a picky eater I think most dogs would enjoy this food.

Nova thoroughly enjoyed this food. As soon as the pack opened she was eager to taste it, the smell must have been very enticing. The food was hoovered up in seconds and she was keen to have more. Unfortunately it gave her some rather unpleasant wind.

I left it a couple of days and tried again (incase it was something else causing the wind) The next time I gave both Nova and her sister a bowl to try. Both dogs thoroughly enjoyed the food and emptied the bowls.

Nova had wind again but Luna was fine. I personally couldn’t sustain my dogs on this as their main feed as it would be very expensive. The size of the kibble is also tailored to smaller dogs and not ideal for larger breeds.

It’s quite small so a big, greedy dog can swallow rather than chew (which may have been the cause of Nova’s wind!). Overall it would make a nice occasional treat as both dogs would really enjoy it but my purse wouldn’t!.

This is a great, high quality food. I feed my other dogs a homemade human grade only food. One that I make and freeze. But for a puppy, I feel the special nutritional needs a puppy has, is best left to professionals.

I study every ingredient and also check for any past recall issues. I feel this food is a great food for a commercial dry food. I always rotate my dogs food, so they have a super strong digestive system.

I also always make sure they are accustomed to eating a commercial food so when they are boarded it is easier for the Vet’s office who keeps them when I am gone. And so I will use this brand when my Doberman is an adult too.

We switched from Purina Lg Breed Puppy, which was giving our girl bad gas and loose stool, to Puppy Vantage Pea Free. Transitioned her to this food over a two week period. She is doing great. Stools are firm, no gas, happy puppy, happy family.

I do wish the kibble was a bit larger, but we got a slow feeder bowl and a slow feeder wobble bowl, which keeps her from sucking it all down in 30 sec. and forces her to chew. The wobble bowl makes her chew the individual pieces more, plus it’s stimulating for her mind.

Overall, we are happy with Earthborn and our bowls – both from Chewy.

My pup will not eat no other brand but this. Other brands make him sick. I only give him holistic brand food and treats because that’s really all he’ll eat. Plus I want my puppy on the best diet ever.

They guy where I got my pup from recommended this brand, he breed dogs and have been giving his pups this since he started getting dogs.

So I have two dogs. Lupo is a boxer and Daisy is a pit bull german shepherd mix. Lupo get an upset tummy really easily which will give him the worst case of stank butt and Daisy has allergies that will make her lick and itch like crazy.

Trying to find a food that matches both of their needs and won’t break the bank has been a long journey. I finally decided to try crave and I am so glad I did! I don’t normally write reviews but this food deserves it! My dogs can’t get enough of it! I always put food in their bowls before I let them back in from going potty.

With other foods they would sniff it maybe take a bite and eat it throughout the day. With crave however they rush to the bowl and finish it within minutes! I have to be careful not to let Lupo in before daisy because he’ll starting eating out of both bowls! Lupo no longer has stank butt and Daisy isn’t licking and scratching her hair way any more! We tried a couple flavors and they prefer the fish flavor.

If your thinking about trying this food don’t hesitate! Your doggos will thank you! The only down side is they don’t sell bigger bags! I hope that changes in the future!.

My senior dog M is super-duper allergic to just about everything. She hasn’t always been like that, but developed her allergies around 9 yo. We switched her to salmon based kibbles her allergic furry sibling was already on (PurinaOne Sensitive systems).

M tolerated them just fine for a couple of years, but then we had to switch to a different brand (Sam’s Club Exceed Salmon Grain-free kibbles) also for a couple of years, until she stopped tolerating them as well.

I mean – bloody vomit all day long. Sorry. On a whim I tried Crave White Fish & Salmon Adult Grain-Free Dry Dog Food (found it on clearance in a store), and M has been eating them for a couple of years now with minimal reaction.

She cannot have anything else, be it dog treats or human food, but she tolerates Crave kibbles fine for now (she is 15 years old). I hope it stays that way.

WARNING: Tried this with my boy “Zero” for several months. My dog was not wanting to eat this brand… but i tried. Was feeding Pure Balance but my dog would no longer eat that brand because something changed, and he was not having it.

Then I tried Crave and this food started causing my dog food allergies big time! Head shacking, ears infected, red eye with watery discharge crap, itching, excessive hair shedding. Took my boy to the vet and was advised to immediately stop feeding this food to my dog.

My veterinarian gave my dog a shot and ear medication, she recommended that I switch his food to “Purina One Smart Blend”. Been feeding for a week now and he runs to his dish at feeding time and eats everything! Time will tell if this resolves his food allergy issue.

I received this product for free from Influenster and Merrill in exchange for an honest review. Ok first off, the packing look nice. I wish it came with a zip closure though because I have a small dog and she doesn’t eat that much so I have to keep opening and closing it since I didn’t have an extra container to put all of it in.

The smell is OVERWHELMING. It is extremely potent and it doesn’t smell that great. With that said, it doesn’t seem like it bothers my dog. The kibbles are a nice size and there are real chunks of meat in there.

The first time my dog ate it, she only ate the meat chunks and left the kibbles. She eventually came back and ate the kibbles though. She didn’t seem to have any bad reactions to the food – which she usually does have a hard time switching food in the past so that was nice.

Overall, I wish they have sampler sizes so we can try the other flavors for my dog. I don’t know that I’m willing to commit to a 4lb bag right away.

First I have to say ,I did feed merrick to my dogs years ago ,but at the time they had only one variation of poultry free. Two of my dogs were allergic to chicken/turkey and grains ,yes they were both tested multi times.

So after about five months they got tired of the food ,since I can only get them one meat protein from merrick that had no poultry along with no grain. So I switched them to some thing else but it was only sold on line and shipping was slow.

Then I switched that food to another ,than another but the last food was always on back order and not sold at any retail pet store. So my daughter got a bag of this merrick pacific catch at our local pet store and the dogs loved it.

So I came on chewy and they have it ,but again not much choices of poultry /grain free variety there is only two the beef and this salmon ,the food is medium sized kibble and the freeze dried bits are different sizes but differ to one bag to the other meaning the one bag I got (the largest ) one will have lots of freezed dried bits and the next bag hardly any ,I know it goes by weight but would be awesome if each bag had a little more freezed dried bits since it is higher priced then the just grain free.

The salmon is not fishy Smelling and I have not noticed my dogs smelling fishy so as long as they will eat it I will buy ,but they need to come out with more poultry free choices.
