20 Best Heavy Duty Work Socks (2023 Updated)

For years I bought another brand of over-the-calf tube socks for work. So, I decided to try these for a change just to see. Well, these are a lot better than the others I had been buying. for about the same price.

I have a new brand of work sock. 5 stars all the way. Highly recommended.

These socks are super thin and have a rough texture. Also they do not have Fruit of the Loom printed on the toe of socks. Every package I have ever bought had the toes with fruit of the loom on them.

These do not. Not comfortable at all.

This is a long tube style sock (no heal pocket) with medium thickness work sock weight. Good thickness for the price I paid. The mix of synthetic fibers along with the cotton will help it wear longer though I would prefer 100% cotton.

A bit snug around the calf is my only negative. Possibly that will expand over time, but not certain.

I’ve worn these a handful of times now and threads are already pulling out. Also the stripes around the calf aren’t as solid of black, there is white patchiness in them. I’m quite disappointed in what they did to these and makes me hesitant to buy any other pairs.

It just feels like they are cutting corners to save money. They are still soft and comfortable, just not the same quality they used to be.

I usually wear Smart Wool Socks and have worn them for the past 25 years. When I first started wearing them, they were wonderful and very well made. Now with the newer socks that I have purchased, I have noticed that the quality of manufacturing has diminished.

I am in the process of looking for a new brand. One issue that I have been having with the newer socks is the quality and consistency of the wool. It is both thin and thick within the same sock. With the quality of the wool yard been of lesser than previously purchased socks, The heel portion of the sock wears thin much quicker.

My arthritic fingers do not allow for me to darn my socks. That is, IF I could find wool thread to do it with. Secondly is the toe of the sock; when the toe section is connected to the body of the sock, there is a large nubb of fabric and it rubs right against my small toe causing severe blisters.

Hopefully I will be able to find a replace brand soon.

Bought Carhartt socks for many, many , many years. I usually have at least a couple dozen in my drawer. These are not at all what they used to be. They used to be primarily cotton, good weight, and great fit.

These sucks are about 1/3 the weight, and way too tight. I mean TIGHT!. They are so tight they squeeze my toes together. I have to remove my boots and socks at lunch break simply to get some air to my toes.

They are crushed together because of my socks. They also create a very sweaty environment inside my work boots. Although I have never worn pantyhose, I have to put them on the same way my wife used to have to put on her pantyhose…pinching the super thin fabric and inching it on a little at a time.

Do NOT buy these socks if you are looking for a decent quality cotton sweat sock. I threw 2 dozen away. It is ridiculous that Carhartt makes this (in another country) and tries to pawn them off as durable cotton work socks.

Please Carhartt, charge more and make a decent sock. These suck and suck bad. Leaves rings and marks on my ankles and feet they are so TIGHT.

Been buying these Carhartt socks for years. always a fan of these socks. Always been extremely comfortable and long lasting and of Quality, usually wore them out before the would become “ quitters”….

meaning the elastic would wear out and the top would sag. The one I just order are NOT of the same quality, very , very thin feel to them , I highly doubt they will last ! Didn’t know if Carhartt using a different manufacturer or probably being made over sea now.

So much for being made in the USA ! Very thin material now…. definitely won’t hold up. Not the Quality I’ve come expect from Carhartt !.

These crew work socks are by far made with less quality than before. These were the only socks I’ve purchased for several years. I just ordered new ones and they are now they are made way thinner than before and also seems like less cotton is being used.

Far from the quality the regular Carhartt customers came to expect and enjoy for the money spent. I wont be purchasing these any more unless they go back to how they made them in past. Cutting corners to save money = loss of reliable customers.

The socks turned up but they were like ankle socks not full socks for boots which is what I ordered. The socks themselves were of good quality and lovely and thick which is what my husband wanted and the price was good too.

Too tight, I cannot get them on. They seem good quality, but to me, the heavy duty thickness makes them too tight. I wish I could buy socks size 13-15. They might fit then.

I buy new socks each anniversary for my husband as he wears steel capped boots for work and seems to get through them quickly. These have reinforced toes and heels especially for these kind of boots.

The come in various colours (grey, black and navy).

I purchased these Mens Work Gear Tube Socks at our Walmart one time a while ago. They are very thin material and course. They also wear holes into them very fast. Because of the thin material. I needed new Fruit of the Loom tube socks to replace my Men’s Dual Defense Tube Socks that are a lot softer, comfortable and lasts a lot longer than these Men’s Work Gear Tube Socks.

Unfortunately, since manufacturers and stores prefer not to carry ample stock in the stores anymore and expect everyone to purchase everything online these days. I made the mistake of purchasing these horrible Fruit of the Loom socks again through the Fruit of the Loom online store.

I returned them, and now in the process of waiting for Fruit of the Loom to refund my money. The return process appears to be easy, but the sad part is I purchased these with their first time buyer discount and now will have to purchased the Men’s Dual Defense Tube Socks at full price cost, because I wasted my first time buyer discount on ordering their wrong horrible product first.

This is why I dislike buying clothing items online. You have no way of feeling the type of material, if the size is the correct fit size for your body, and then returning the items becomes such a hassle and you are without the article of clothing you were needing in the first place for an additional week or however long it takes to do the return and purchased and shipped again.

Well after waiting 2 weeks for my order to get to my house. I open the package and pulled out the socks. They where in a plastic big and put in a nether plastic bag. Witch seemed funny. Why but a plastic bag in a nether plastic bag.

But I find out why as soon as I open the first plastic bag. The smell was terrible. They shipped me socks that someone spilled something nasty on. Relly nice right? Had to wash them three times to get the smell out.

I was really struggling with my feet at work. Factory, 12 hour shifts, walking miles every day. I bought and trialled loads of socks from different places including Screwfix and hiking shops. Spent a fortune to find the right pair.

And these are them. Very thick, padded and soft but also very hardwearing. My original 3-pairs were bought over 2 years ago and they’ve lasted this long. Hope to get the same mileage out of these replacements!.

I bought a pair of these 2yrs ago from arco and they are still going strong. Have tried a few pairs from loads of other brands but always search the drawer for these. Last week (18/12/18) the mrs bought me the site comfort work socks, and with 93 reviews I though they gotta be great.

They are comfortable as the material feels more plush but they are definitely thinner than these and that’s comparing them to my 2 yr old socks (I actually changed them in the car park in the van lol) I’m a size 9 and they fit nice and snug, good thickness and great quality.

Really surprised only 4 reviews, maybe lack of purchases and comparisons, if you find better than these please leave a review here. I’m guessing screwfix own site hence the 93 reviews. just a guess. Guess what I received 6 pairs of for Xmas Lol.

These are not cheap. But… a day back in previous working boot socks and my feet are a mess. These are thick in the right places, don’t have seams where they can cause problems. Annoying I can’t tumble dry them but hey – i just bought another three pairs so no more foot mangling for me, i hope.

These are truly the BEST everyday sock for most conditions and uses. I use them for working construction, landscaping, hunting, working out, and casual wear. These wick sweat like nothing else due to the high wool content in these socks.

I find the medium cushion is not too little or too much. I use these through the summer and don’t have problems with trench foot during work. and they work great for the cold until it gets closer to the extreme temps then I bump up to heavier-weight wool socks.

I also like the plain design of these socks makes them not crazy looking for casual wear and don’t jump out being too crunchy looking. the only real downside to these socks is how they wear a little fast.

I believe this is mostly due to the construction of materials being made of a high percentage of wool and less polyester or other material to provide more strength. HOWEVER, I would never trade up the high performance of the large % of wool construction for more durability.

I have tried just about every popular brand of wool socks. Smartwool, Darn Tough, REI, Carhartt, Columbia, and others. NONE seem to have as much wool content as Smartwool, and I’m not talking just these socks I mean most SmartWool socks in general.

I hear people rave about Darn Tough and its lifetime warranty. All I have to say is they are okay but nowhere near the performance level of Smartwool. Darn Tough has a different weave pattern that increases durability but doesn’t trap the warmth as well and tends to have lower wool content.

I HOPE Smartwool listens and keeps a high wool content in their socks and focuses on performance instead of getting greedy and going down the route that has destroyed so many companies today of the cheaply made high return products being pushed today slashing quality and performance.

I have purchased two new pairs of these every year for the past five years. I still have and wear regularly those first few years of pairs! Three years ago, I didn’t notice a change in quality when I first put my new pair on, but about 9 months in, they were wearing through and aging faster than the older pairs in my regular rotation.

This year was by far the worst, though. I won’t be purchasing again in the future. I put the new pair on and they felt thinner, rougher, and tighter than all the old socks used to be. I was especially sad because I’d been trying to convince my dad to try these socks for years but he was wary of paying so much money for a single pair of socks.

I bought him a pair for Christmas to match my new ones and they simply didn’t live up to the hype I’ve been giving to Smartwool over the past five years. I used to tell everyone I knew they were the greatest socks in the world.

They were. They changed my life! No more smelly feet! Perfectly comfortable. Always regulating my feet to be the right temperature. These new designs just don’t do it.

I have purchased these many times as they look great and are comfortable. The problem is that they just don’t last. Contrary to what you might read in the Merchant responses in these reviews, Smart Wool’s “Go Far.

Feel Good. ™ Guarantee” doesn’t amount to much. I recently sent pictures of two pairs that wore very thin. Thin enough to see my feet (not holes, just thin) and was told “the item falls under normal wear and tear ” and hence despite the fact you can’t “go far” in your socks because they are thin, the guarantee doesn’t apply.

In light of the fact that I only wear these each pair two or three times per month, and I have never had other manufacturers wool blended socks experience a thinness problem, I’m not happy. Smart Wool’s decision to not honor their guarantee leaves me thinking, I am only going to buy them in the future if they are on clearance.

, Maybe Smartwool should start making their socks in Iowa. The socks made there seem to last a long time.

Unable to comment as these are a requested gift. But they look as if they will certainly stand up to the task.

Great boot socks, really pleased with the fickness and the comfort. When you’re wearing boots all day especially when grafting you really rely on the socks to give you the comfort you need and these are perfect for me.

Just received 4 pair of the socks I am well impressed so far very comfortable and nicely padded on soles ty.

Bought for my two sons and a pair for my son-in-law for Christmas. They are hunters, fishermen and one works outside in city parks, in cold Ohio weather. They love the socks, how they are not just super warm but not itchy at all, and so comfortable! Negatives? None! I wear Smartwool also, I am their 62 year old mother (& mom in law!) and an avid backpacker.

Been section hiking the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada, CA, for a few years now, and would not risk getting blisters or being uncomfortable on the trail. They care for my feet while trudging on touch mountain trails in the hot daytime hours, and are so cozy and warm in my trail home (tent!) by night.

Wore them to work when I lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, then when rode a 200 pound, fully loaded bicycle on a 15,000 mile solo tour of the USA for 2 full years. Washing clothes and body was a luxury for 2 years.

Web search “talk20hutch Ari Gold” Now, I wear them to work in the middle of Kansas. Every sock I wore on the bike trip has a hole from occationally slipping off the foot pedal, those are falling apart ten years later.

I always wear lightweight dress socks underneath. People think $20 for one pair of socks is crazy. My feet are comfortable, dry, not stinky and no calluses for 20 years. I WANT them to shrink from washing and drying, then they are denser (more durable?) and act as compression socks when I am on my feet all day.

Nothing helps when I stand in one place all day, these socks are great when I am moving around all day. I think the Smartwool socks I first bought are more durable and less soft than the ones I recently bought.

I bought these for walking/hiking rather than work and they’re much better than hiking socks twice their price. Great socks. Love them.

While the quality of these socks seems good, and they are quite comfortable, I find it hard to understand how the manufacturers can say they fit sizes 6 – 11! As a size 8, I find them very much on the large side.

If your feet are any smaller, you will need to shrink them!.

The socks I have been ordering and using for the past 20 years have been discontinued. So, I was forced to try these socks. They are much thinner than the All Weather Work Socks I previously used. These may be ok for others, but not for me.

These keep my feet warm in winter and dry even when it is warm. I wear them except for the hottest times of year because they provide a great cushion while wearing boots. They cushion the foot and prevent chafing of the legs.

I bought two pair about three years ago. They have held up well, I was pleasantly surprised by how long they lasted since I wear them about 9-10 months a year. And at the price, you can’t beat them. I have paid more for socks that didn’t wear as well and were not as comfortable.

I wish I knew who makes them so I could thank them directly.

I plan to buy a few more. Nice, moderately thick, cotton sock. goes all the way to the knee. Well made and comfortable. I have in both the white, and the gray/blue. Washes and drys well, no shrinking.

I purchased these socks a few weeks ago. I didn’t know what to expect. I have never bought performance socks, but I know I needed them. I recently got a job working night shift 10hrs a night on concrete in metatarsal boots.

I started to Google women’s work socks and found these. There were other brands but I thought the description and the photo did justice for the sock. 3 weeks later and a few washings and they are still like new.

Remember I work 10 hrs in these. They hold up well and my feet do not sweat. Smell, yup but they keep me dry and I have had no issues with my feet. I started to get hammer toes and that has since subsided too.

Great socks, excellent quality! Will be buying more socks from here when I need them.

I’ve questioned the design of “walking†socks for decades. Yes, I need cushioning under my feet. Yes, I like the idea of cushioning over my instep – especially since I often vary tension in shoelaces depending upon the sort of walking I have in mind for that day.

Never found a technical reason for adding a uniform cushioning layer around the whole interior of socks. Warmth is legit…if you’re buying socks for warmth. Cost of manufacture has undoubtedly been the primary driver of that uniform layer decision.

Fox River has made a decision on the side of technical good sense that works for me and my feet. I’ve been a recreational walker, an exercise walker since a teenager. And that’s a lot of years ago.

In a couple of weeks, I’ll be 83 years young. As well as I can see into the future, an hour or so every day will continue to be spent walking for fun and exercise…and it will be spent with my feet inside a pair of Fox River Trailmasters.

Most people think that wool socks (and I mean quality wool) are only for cold weather. Nothing could be further from the truth. Wool breathes very well and it maintains body temp for your feet whether its cold or hot outside.

Wool also wicks away sweat (unlike cotton) which keeps your feet relatively dry. Fox Rivers heavy hiking socks are the best that I have found since my old backpacking days in the 1970s. Thank you for making a quality product!.

I am completely satisfied with these excellent Dickies socks. I finally found the non-binding socks I have been looking for and highly recommend them. They are well made made, fit perfectly and do not slide down even after a long day walking and should last through many washings.

These are my everyday choice and especially like wearing them when working out at tthe gym. I prefer them over my other socks and will not hesitate to wear the black socks with a suit because they are very comfortable and look great!.

Comfortable. Do as they should. No swamp monsters in my boots at the end of the day even in temperatures exceeding 90°. Overall I don’t buy anything but Dickies brand socks anymore.

Finding socks that fit on a man with large calfs is extremely difficult. The Non-binding Crew Socks from Dickies fit without falling down or pinching the leg. Will purchase again in the future.

Nice quality socks—Dickie’s makes good socks. Pros: No cotton! (the worst sock fiber). Smooth comfortable toe closure seam. Cons: they are LONG. If your feet are less than 10. 5 the heel will slide up in back.

They are LOOSE. End of the day they’ll be moving around. Bottom line: great price, above average quality. If you have large feet, these should do just fine for every day.

My feet honestly seem to be more sweaty and stinky wearing these socks versus the heavyweight version. They did a great job with construction as well as design, but they weren’t the sock for what I need.

It’s worth mentioning Dickies really has done a great job at forming socks around feet so they don’t slip off, so I want to give credit where credit is due. However, I wouldn’t purchase them again.

These socks are very heavyweight. Had to loosen the laces on my boots quite a bit – could probably even size up 1/2 size for these. Probably great for doing work outdoors in the cold months. My shop is an indoor setting, so I wouldn’t get the benefit.

I cant tell much cos Im not wearing them. I bought it for a gift and for a Charity Donation. It looked good so I hope the quality is also good. I hope Im not disappointed.

Very nice packaging! It comes in a nice, black box. Haven’t tried it yet. Sure it will do it’s job. Flattening whetstones to sharpen Straight Razor :))))

Premium price, low on quality. 3 wears out of them and holes have appeared. Threw in bin as unwearable. Like I said Premium prices but very VERY low quality. Consider other socks.

As a size 8 I assumed size 6 to 11 would be ok. When they arrived I had my doubts as with the toe fitted the heal was half way up my calf! Thought no sweat wash them and they will shrink – no chance, they are now so big they will fit over the boot.

Total loss, do not bother.

These socks are comfortable and seem to be sized right. I have always worn a size 12 boot and it seems as if most socks nowadays that say “fits sizes 6 to 12” are too tight. So I went with these in the XL which description says “10.

5 to 13″ and that seems about right. These fit my size 12’s without being stretched tight. They are thick and comfortable and I hope they will last. The tops do stay up but not so tightly that you get indents.

All in all I will recommend and buy again!.

Thank you Cabela buyers⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I bought these socks at Christmas for my 19 yr old son who has a PAINFUL (congenital) foot bone disease. He is also 280 lbs 6’4 and a shoe size 14-15, so lot of weight on his sole; extra cushioning is not an option but a must.

He is a commercial pollinator & commercial bee keeper who is on his feet on produce farms all day. These socks have held up since December and are like brand new. These are the 1st pair of socks EVER to withstand the wear and tear from my son’s rugged work life.

I rated these XL socks so low solely because they are too small. Some size 12 shoes fit me ok though 13’s are most often the best fit. These are very nice, high quality socks and they’re U. S. made but I could barely install them on my feet.

Maybe the package was mismarked but they were useless to me.

warm, durable, true to size good fit. I chose the Berne socks because the Berne brand apparel has always been good for my use at work or casual. I chose TSC because of wide selection of the Berne brand items and the shiping is fast.

Prices most always really good.

I bought these socks for my husband & he loves them. They are warm even in negative temperature. They stay put on his feet & don’t slip down into your shoes or bunch up. They aren’t big and bulky either.

These socks are true to fit, good quality, and very comfortable. I would recommend them as I plan to buy many more.

Good but not great. They are a little thin for wool socks. It’s definitely more noticeable on the calf of the sock than the foot of the sock. I got them on sale so they are acceptable at that price but better options available that will be heavier and warmer.
