20 Best Heater For Ice Fishing (2023 Updated)

5 starts for 2 reasons. The first is it has lasted more than 1 hunting season (this is it’s 4th season) unlike allllllll the other mr heaters I’ve had. It seems this is the only one the mice don’t destroy.

The other reason is because I’ve never had it passed it’s lowest setting. I mean this thing will heat you out of your deer stand or ice shack. It takes about 30 seconds to get to the same temp as the surface of the sun.

My ONLY bad opinion about this unit is it really is not quiet at all. You think it is while it’s running but when you shut it off you realize it is not.

My husband purchased this heater to warm up the chicken coop when the weather was extremely cold. The first time he used it he did not have any issues and it worked great. He does not leave it in the chicken coop.

He takes it out there and leaves it on for a short time( 15 or 20 minutes) then leaves it inside our enclosed porch. After that he would have to spend 30 minutes or more to get it to light at all. When the weather is cold it will not even attempt to light.

It is very disappointing.

Took this with us camping in the Rockies for a bit of warmth for the wife and it worked fantastic! Bonus feature came into play when a Ranger came round and shut down some campfires from others that were trying to cook and keep warm during an open fire ban.

We used the stove feature and had a great breakfast that took hardly any time at all. Be warned this thing puts out the heat when cooking and it did melt the tip of a camp cooking utensil used to stir eggs.

We use ours (we have 2 now) with the Flame King 1-lb. Refillable Propane Cylinder and Refill Kit (Item # WX2-706954).

This Heater likely saved my life in the 2021 winter storm in Texas. I live in a RV, and the 12v main heater in my camper is 35,000btu and drains 30lb tanks in 3 days when it’s 35 to 40 degrees. (40ft fifthwheel)I had this little thing running on the wall for over 2 weeks during the storm off and on on a partially full tank.

It’s INCREDIBLY EFFICIENT. I was in disbelief it used so little. Has nice accurate thermostat and battery light, came with hose and (junky) regulator. (Replace it. )But all in all, if you are total electric and a winter storm hits.

this at minimum can save your life. Even if you can only heat one bedroom. In my camper with no other heat in -10F Temps it would maintain about 40F inside 2/3 the camper. It may not of been comfortable but it will keep you alive.

You probably already have plenty of propane on your grill outside to have for 2 to 3 weeks of intermittent use anyway. My CO monitor never went off either. Kept it nearby. If you live in Texas BUY IT.

Or anywhere where your life could be in danger without power in winter storms. Also works great as a catchup heater.

This heater works great for me. Set the thermostat and your set for the winter. I leave it run over night and we’re warm in the morning.

Great unit. Keeps the chill off on my 1200 sq ft shop.

Heater works great, and the power fan helps heat circulation. Takes no time to heat a large ice fishing shack. Some of the extra features are handy but not necessary. If you have a choice between this and the Mr.

Heater I would tell you to save your money and purchase the Mr. Heater. The extra cost on this heater doesn’t really get you much. Zero complaints about performance, it is just a bit pricey. If you really want the extra features this one has than I would not hesitate.

I couldn’t decide between the Mr. Heater and this Dewalt Buddy Heater so I bought both. And they are both excellent. The Mr. Heater is much lighter so easier to carry around. This Dewalt is heavy but for good reason.

I have a 5amp 20v connected to it which last forever plus it has 2 propane tanks. That second propane tank is critical when you are out for extended periods. With the Mr. Heater, I’ve either forgotten to bring a spare or just thought I didn’t need an extra.

With the Dewalt, that spare tank has saved me a few times already. And the fan makes a huge difference with heating things up quicker. So this thing rocks. If you don’t mind the extra weight and looking for a reliable good heater with many extras (fan, USB charging outlets, spare tank), then this is definitely the one to get.

Every time I use this heater it blows out. It makes a loud pop And blows right now. Any sort of wind makes this unit blow out. You can walk by it and it’s instantly out. Very unhappy

This heater has to be the best on the market! I bought this heater for residential use. My plans to use this heater are for my deck, garage, and driveway. So far I have used it in my 2 car garage when the temps were in the low 30’s.

I shut the heater down in 15 minutes because the garage was so hot with the garage door cracked 1’ open. I have also used it out in the wind and a light snow with great warm results. This heater has by far exceeded my expectations I had for it.

The other great feature of the heater is how light and portable it is. When I’m able to afford another heater, I will definitely purchase another one!.

Just buy it. I almost bought the 35k competition or a different style larger LP gas heater for my 30x32x14 insulated pole building because of lower prices but read some reviews and glad I bought the Dewalt 45k.

5 minute assembly, long hose, well built, hooked right up to my 100lb tank. I tested it and it makes good quiet heat and will make working on cold days comfortable. Have not tested long term yet if it will heat my whole building but because it is a directional radiant heat it won’t matter and will heat where it matters and use less propane.

I bought an open box to save a few bucks. Glad I did! The only thing I could find wrong or missing was an M4 screw to mount heater to tank bracket. It takes 2 of these M4’s to mount properly and only 1 was supplied.

So for less that $0. 10 I bought a 2nd one. Instructions were pretty clear, and what wasn’t was easy to figure out. Once hooked up, unit fired up as it should. It has 3-heat temp settings. I was using the medium setting in picture.

If you want to pay $80 and up for these then buy new. I got mine for $65 buy purchasing open box. Had never been used.

One of the burners would not stay lit and had to return propane heater. (the other was fine and would continue to burn). Used a one time, time-sensitive discount to buy the heater and could not reuse it once I returned item.

Not sure if I would rebuy if given another chance.

This keeps me VERY warm! I use it a side room/garage and most of the time only need one burner. Well worth the money!

I have only 20 amps in my live work space. After running lights, television and other stuff, I did not have enough current left to run a space heater. This little buddy heater solved my heating problem.

It works indoors! I have a 5 lb. Propane tank feeding it. I get about two to three 1/2 days ( at night) running time per tank, about 36 hours. I have 6 tanks for backup.

Throws great heat. Keeps the ice tent cozy at -25°C. Critical design flaw in that they don’t take the 1lb bottles very well. The first half of the bottle burns fine, then you lose pressure and the tank will frost over.

Almost forces you to buy a hose and link up a larger tank.

First time I used it I couldn’t get it to run longer than a half hour before the bottle would freeze up and it would kick out. It would run a little longer on low and then kick out as well. Outside temp was only -10C (14F).

Called the manufacturer and they told me that the tanks get cold and flow is restricted. They suggested I find a way to keep the tanks warm (a heater to heat the heater???) or buy the attachment to run big tanks.

They basically said it doesn’t work well in the cold. not a great feature for a heater. I would understand at -35C, but -10C is a pretty nice ice fishing day. Fortunately I called cabelas and I will be able to return it and get a buddy heater which my buddy has and works fine.

Don’t buy the hunting buddy. It’s not a good product.

I bought this in 2018 for the fall/winter season. The first thing I noticed is the head itself seems ‘wobbly’ on the base. The air/gas mixing tube that holds the heater up and sits over the propane nozzle is held on with only a single screw.

Even with the screw at max tightness the head still wobbles. Getting past that initial item and actually using it – this heater head worked *fantastic*, and, far exceeded my expectations (by a long shot.

) The heat output, even on LOW, was great. However, towards the end of the season I had to replace the thermocouple. It was a simple repair and a $12 part, however, I was not really thrilled about having to repair something that was so new.

Fast forward to this 2019 fall/winter season and my opinion of this heater is it is junk. The heater will light but not stay lit. I have replaced the thermocouple and wires, I even replaced the tip sensor and no change.

I know it’s not the tank itself because other heaters work great on it. The only thing I have not replaced on this heater is the host/regulator assembly. Do I really have to be the guy that has to point out it is completely ridiculous that I have to replace every replaceable part on this thing and it is barely over a year old?.

Got this heater for Christmas to use for winter tailgating. It throws out a good amount of heat to huddle up against. However, it does indicate that the unit is safe to use indoors. I happen to be a health and safety instrumentation technician (primarily gas detection) and brought one of my detectors home with me.

I tested the heater in an old uninsulated shed with the doors open. Within 3 minutes the CO2 levels spiked to 3000ppm and the O2 had dropped by. 3ppm. I would not suggest using this indoors.

Well, it was cold as heck at the last race event we had in Andalusia Alabama. I had to keep my truck running while I was there all day and sat in it between motos. I researched heaters from every avenue I could come up with.

HF has a two head burner type that only points in one direction. Other resources sold the same 360 for what I’d consider too much expense. When I saw the price at an affordable cost via this ebay seller I jumped at it so fast I think Paypal felt the wind blowing.

The shipping was faster that the ETA date which made it nice. Right now our weather reports conflict from one TV broadcast to the next. All I know is from what I read if it operates at all and I didn’t buy a lemon then I feel like I am in luck.

Needless to say I haven’t used it yet. The weather report for this coming weekend 05 FEB 17 at GAMX in Andalusia doesn’t have the temperature dropping to an uncomfortable low like our last event. I will still bring it because I have to be there before 7am so the temperature might be below 40 degrees.

Which that might make me want to take it out of the box. One thing I am looking forward to is not having to stand by a bonfire and having the wind shift blow smoke in my face. I understand from what I read it could be possible to roast a mashmellow or cook a hotdog on a stick.

But I think I am smart enough even though I live in the bottom of Alabama to step back from the heat at a comfortable distance. I did build a safety feature to hold the 20 lbs propane bottle upright using a stabilizer platform Lowes sold me attached to a piece of plywood.

I hope some person not paying attention doesn’ t make a fool out of themselves or blow us all to smiterinez. My finger are starting to get writing cramps and my spell’g is fadin’ plus I did the 1st thru the 6th grade twice.

Well as life would have things, the weather changed and warmed up. But it has changed again and I will be able to put it to use this weekend. So far coustomer service, price, availability and shipping cost is/was above average.

Here is a suggestion: since it is not wise or recommended to leave attached how about a storage container?.

This heater is awesome it puts out a lot of heat and sips fuel. I use it to warm my storage building, Metal 20×30′ and not insulated also 14′ high. It does a fine job.

This might be a duplicate, but I bought this as a 2019 Christmas gift for myself. Went to fire it up Christmas eve to make sure it worked & was sadly disappointed when the igniter wouldn’t even work.

I could smell LPG so I know the gas valve was opening, I could get a spark about once in every 8-10 trys with the piezo igniter. It never did light. It’s going back for another brand that advertises an electronic ignition.

Had to replace a different brand after only one season because it never did a very good job of heating my garage and then quit all together. My new DeWalt does a much better job overall and does it using less fuel.

Also a lot more quietly. Very happy with this unit. Always thought DeWalt made superior products; should have followed my instinct in the first place.

Bought this heater for our 2-1/2 car insulated garage here in cold Western New York. Having a party in our garage in December and needed a little extra heat. Fired the heater up a few times prior to our party and it heated the place up in 15 minutes.

Will be sure to keep a window cracked while burning it. Only negative I have is that it is a bit noisy when running.

I have been using the milk house type portable radiant heaters for many years which have proven tempermental and noisy to run at lower settings and all the red brand ones have failed in a shorter period than I would like to see even using filters.

I was initially struck by the obvious higher quality of the procom in a good looking unit then fully sold on the performance difference within minutes. The adjusting valve is a fine quality feel and can be very smoothly turned all the way down until there is just the pilot and seems I get a significantly more out of each tank than the buddy type for the heating.

I have installed one at each end of a 33 foot trailer and although they do not recommend for RV use it’s by far the safest heater I have used for that the entire body stays cool to the touch and has a safety glass in front of the flame as well the back only gets warm to the touch but it mounts standing off the wall the only hot comes out of the small area in the front which indeed circulates evenly for a comfortable heat, my Carbon Monoxide / CO detector / alarm has yet to leave “0” it’s a great looking beautifully functioning heater that gets my highest recommend.

This or any flame appliance only recommended for those who understand the potential dangers of carbon monoxide thataside it’s the safest one out there in my search.

A nice little propane heater but since it has no thermostat be prepared for either too much heat, or too little. Not sure why ProCom would make a heater that cannot self regulate but I suppose there are some applications where occupants never leave the space they are in so they can turn the heat to high or low as the interior temperature changes.

This heater would probably be best as a supplement to another heat source that is thermostatically controlled so that the highs and lows can be tempered by the thermostat turning the heat on and off.

Unfortunately the control dial on mine tends to jam a little so I’m hoping it doesn’t need replacement soon. Otherwise it functions as advertised.

I installed this unit in my out building 350sq ft. The building has 10ft ceilings and is insulated. At 15 degrees outside it remained 74. 5 degrees inside! With an ODS this unit is very safe and 99. 9% efficient! I have this unit connected to a 40lb propane tank.

Cost for me so far for month of December in southern MD is $90. 00. Very very pleased.

Editing a previous review; Easily heats a 24 x 36 garage with ease. But it only lasted two months and then wont stay lit. Probably the switch, which is the same thing that occurred on my fire table a few years ago (and the controls are literally the same).

Bottom line; Chinese parts do not last, its fast production slam, pack and ship. I expected a great item and reviewed this in December with a 5 star rating because when working it pumps a lot of heat.

Was looking for a small heater that could be easily stored off season. This heater has enough BTU’s to heat up my 25×20 garage to a comfortable temp. Its nice to be able to turn it down to such a low BTU to maintain temp but not suck away a 20lb tank like some of the larger units do.

This heater was bought to replace a radiant LP heater. Pretty basic in construction, with adjustable heat output. we hooked up this heater to 20 pound LP tanks. It kept the job site above freezing so the masons work could proceed.

A good heater.

Works as designed. It’s very much a small space heater. Easy to use (read the instructions). I use it outdoors under an awning and it’s enough to keep me a bit warmer, but not enough to allow me to completely shed my layers (ie take off my jacket etc.

). A 1lb tank is probably good for about a couple hours depending on how high you set it, maybe more. It’s easy to move around while in its standard setup like that. It’s designed well that It doesn’t get too hot to the touch (grabbing by the handle).

However, I decided to hook it up to a 15lb tank using an adapter hose and it works the same way.

Very happy with my purchase of the Mr. Heater portable heater. My husband and I took it with us for a short camping trip in a small cabin with no electricity. Up in the mountains, we knew it would be getting chilly at night already.

Mr. Heater worked like a champ. We would turn it on in the cabin while we fixed and ate dinner outside. When it was time for us to go to bed, the cabin was comfortably warm. We turned it off then so the cabin would not be too warm for us to sleep.

There were two windows in the cabin that we did crack open for fresh air, but we never smelled any fumes from the propane. No problems with the ignition, held it for about 30 seconds, like the instructions say, and it ignited every time.

For heating small spaces this heater does the job. Plan to keep it handy in case our power goes out and we can at least warm our bedroom for a more comfortable night’s sleep.
