20 Best Headphones For Teaching Online (2023 Updated)

Needs some EQ (directly running from a macbook pro 2017) to get working properly I think. I use eqMac and take the oratory1990’s presets as starting point. Also eqMac itself directs to certain presets you can use.

With those, bass becomes more for my taste. Although you shouldn’t really listen metal with these, hard rock and similar things are okay, but I think this shines more when you have high mids. I really enjoy listening Yes, Rush, etc with these.

And reviews you see where it says “feels like nothing”, they are right. Listened for hours on end, never felt any discomfort. May be hot in the summer but sitting in a home at around 76 degrees, didn’t feel hot.

And noise bleed is not too much, of course not suitable for an office setting, but you do not need to shield yourself from your family in your home as to not disturb them. Still, you can hear a lot with the headphones on, so you may want to shield yourself from noise anyways.

Outside noise interferes a lot.

I really didn’t expect the headphones to do such a kind of wonder to my ears. I have always been a great fan of planar magnetic openbacks. I just wanted to try something different this time. so I went on and bought this Beyerdynamic-DT880 and I’m using it with a&b xb10.

I have a hifiman Sundara, and was using that for listening to music. I am not sure if I am an audiophile because I don’t have that kind of setup or numerous audio devices to listen to music. I mainly strive for clean and balanced sound.

With the Hifiman Sundara I was not able to immerse myself in my music as it is a open back and I was using it in normal household condition with no isolation. That was the main reason to consider a closed back headphone, I decided to buy the beyerdynamic dt 700 pro x for the perfect balanced sound that I could hear from all reviews but spending 26K for nearly same sound as the dt 770 pro did not make sense to me.

I was confused between the dt 770 pro 80 ohm and 250 ohm version. All reviews pointed 80 ohm to be the best for music listening. While going through some reviews in different forums there was one person who clearly mentioned the differences between the different impedance models.

The 250 ohm is more balanced with a greater sense of depth and seperation with a little more openness. That review made my buying decision and I bought the dt 770 250 ohm model. As I already have a Ifi Zen Can powering the headphone was not an issue.

After receiving the headphone initially I felt the sound a little piercing in the high frequency range (as I was used to hearing the Sundaras). I used an android EQ (Wavelet app) brought down the 9. 6k band -2.

5 DB and now it sounds perfect. Amazing clearity, depth and sound stage with a little more distinctive bass than the Sundaras. I am happy with this purchase and satisfied with the sound of the headphones.

I bought these headphones to compliment my HD 599 SEs. I was not able to use the open-backs when there is someone else in the room / when my PC spins up due to the noise. I resigned myself to the banes of a closed back headphone and bought these.

Lo and behold ! Amazing soundstage with an airy sound. While do miss the soundstage of the 599s these are not lacking in any way , especially for being closed backs. The build quality is amazing – they are built like tanks and can survive many a year in your collection if treated a little carefully.

The only downside of the build is that the cable is not detachable. Version: I bought the 32ohm version so that I can drive them off my phone/tab and the pleather that comes with the 32ohm version has outstanding noise isolation.

I also wanted a shorter cable in case I use them at the office. Sound : Outstanding , tight punchy bass but not muddy in any way at all. Listening to Bad guy by Billie Eilish felt like I was listening to another layer of the sub bass for the first time.

The mids are clean and unpolluted but quite unremarkable. In songs with heavy vocals, I did miss the mids of my HD 599. These are bright sounding in the treble region – almost to the point of being a flaw.

It was outstanding for my music choices it did hurt my sibling’s ears half way through Anoushka Shankar’s Monsoon Album. It depends on personal tolerability I guess. Although this was easily fixed by eq, please be aware if you tend to be treble sensitive.

Amp needs : They(32ohm version) are driven to a pretty high volume very easily by an iPhone and the apple adapter. I use a Fiio E10K on my desk and unlike the HD599SE, these don’t sound significantly different with and without an AMP.

I can hear slightly tighter and cleaner bass on my E10K but that may just be a bias. Cons : -Bright , sibilant sound at high volumes. Fixable by EQ -Fixed cable.

Purchased an Open-Box model here from HeadAmp, which is a pretty good deal. Arrived shipped double boxed with all the original packaging and in basically new condition. Currently running them off of a THX AAA 789, but have also used with the DarkVoice 336SE.

They feel very premium and fit my ears great with plenty of room inside. The cups are quite large front to back – the largest of all the headphones I own. Comparing to STAX Lambda Pros on the STAX SRM-500T, with both AutoEQ’d to flat: Comfort: They provide a nice little hug to your head that’s enough to ensure a good seal, but don’t clamp too tight.

Not as light as the Lambda Pros, but those are mostly plastic. Sound: The soundstage is wider than the Lambda Pros. Since I’m using both AutoEQ’d to flat, I’ve gotten them tonally to pretty much the same place, but the shape and technology of the headphones provide a different experience.

The Lambda Pros are electrostatic, so everything is sharp and fast. You can also easily pick up very minute details of songs that you generally miss with other headphones. The HD 800S aren’t going to be as sharp and fast, but their increased soundstage allows you to not only pick up where a sound is coming from, but also decipher distance.

And yes, the soundstage is HUGE. The minute details I can find with the Lambda Pros, you will need to listen out for a little more with the HD 800S to find, but they’re still there, they just might sound a little further away.

Wearing the HD 800S is a trip the first time you wear them. I was listening in a room by myself, and hearing a sound in a song come from behind me surprised me because I thought someone else was in the room.

Back to the attack/decay, the Lambda Pros will be very concise and tight, but if you’re used to dynamic drivers, the HD 800S will likely sound more normal / natural to you. As an aside, the HD 800S running on the tubes of the DarkVoice 336SE add another layer.

To my ears, they were a little warmer, and would provide a more fun / relaxed / musical listening experience, at the expense of some clarity /sterility. Overall, the HD 800S are a great headphone with great technicality.

I think there’s a place for both these and the Lambda Pros in my collection, as they’ll give you a different listening experience, depending on what you’re looking for (besides the Lambda Pros needing their own special energizer).

The soundstage of the HD800S will provide more of an almost theatrical experience, though both are great for detailed listening, just for different things.

After many months of deliberation I finally took the plunge to purchase the HD800S. They sit alongside my PMC OB1 speakers, Cambridge 851 streamer and Class A headphone amp. But wow!, what a revelation -hearing detail/ plucks and scratching of strings, nuances of breath in vocals, and things previously masked or missing from what I’ve heard before.

Yes, these are extremely revealing, and not for the feint hearted if your source is first generation CDs with their sand-paper harsh A-D recordings. But play a quality source, or even vinyl, and you’ll be rewarded with detail you never knew was there, like a 20yr old single malt.

Some reviews have noted a thinness in the bass. Not at all. It is smooth, clean and extended. True, its never going to compete with the window rattling /chest thumping 100 Watts pumping through the OB1s transmission line speakers -coloured by the resonances of the listening room, but this is not what headphones are about.

This is about sweet sensual immersion in the finesse of the detail and the performance of the musicians. As for construction, yes you definitely know you’re handling a top-end product. ‘Substantial’ without being overly heavy.

They fit well, even for spectacle wearers, and are cool and comfy. The connection lead is plenty long enough, and super-flexible textile-covered, meaning it drapes where its put rather than getting hung up and awkwardly in the way like ‘traditional’ cable.

The icing on the cake is the quality hinged-lid storage box to keep them safe out of the way when not in use. If I had a criticism, I’d have preferred a little more space in the box to quickly drop the lead into without having to loop it in.

Would I buy them again? Yes.

These are a couple of weeks old now, and we’re purchased after extensive audition at the store. They were far less compromised then any of the other headphones I auditioned. The other units I tried were of similar price or much more expensive.

First build quality. You can’t find fault with the Shure phones they are superbly constructed and look and feel top draw. They are light in weight and very very comfortable. Great for long term listening.

The sound quality is also very good, they don’t seem to suffer from the “Harman” response curve which is almost like a loudness control. Meaning elevated bass and treble frequency’s control. Thank goodness.

These headphones are sealed back and restrict sound being emitted into the room. The Sound. It is very even through out the range with nothing drawing too much attention to certain frequencies. Vocals are great treble is sweet yet detailed.

Bass is solid and deep without being overbearing. Fact is they have a lower reach then my PMC floor stander’s which go very low. Considering these phones are sealed back they manage to create a good sound stage and a controlled bass.

Just a great natural (neutral) presentation. Whilst reading reviews is useful, after auditioning the Shure’s I found myself keep returning to them in preference over the others. The Brighton store made it easy to audition all the units, all in all a pleasant experience thank you.

Hi All, I use these without an amp through my iphone se 2020 with apple dongle dac and with a schitt heresy to similar results. Obviously the heresy is better but not a paradigm shift. Been listening for about a month.

Have tried over 40 hp’s to get here. Finally found my all rounders! I stream through hifi streaming mostly and am particularly impressed by the versatility of these headphones. Electronic genres sound deep, full bodied, clean; vocals are detailed, present, centered (so important to me, i prefer a slightly vocal forward sound stage (i dont like the hifiman sundaras presentation of vocals for reference, 6xx sounds maybe a bit too forward but lovely for david crosby etc.

singer acoustic music), and the 1540s sound very nice even compared to 6xx for this genre, but quite different actually. Vocals have more texture on 1540, more detail, but less area, i. e. a bit less spread out, less enveloping.

I attribute this to the closed back design. Best closed back soundstage for the price imo. DCA aeon RT are another option, and akg k553 mkii for a cheaper option, but k553 mkii lack comfort and highs can be harsh, no good.

However, on the 1540, even horns/strings sound so good! Not DT 880 level but surprisingly good, for closed back a real achievment tbh, this is the key part of why I’m keeping them forever. Rock guitars sound very nice, instrument separation is natural.

There is a slight echo in the closed back design, but it’s kind of nice too, gives snares a little more snap and whack. Compared to srh 840, the 1540s are flatter and much more comfortable. Bass sounds better, highs are maybe dull in comparison but pump it loud and you’ll be excited, trust me.

Normally, i like vocals center, at medium volume, bass is beautifully present too, at high volumes these become so much fun, yet smooth! and the high pressure of the accentuated bass and closed back design feels good with metal and dub.

No distortion at all. Eminently comfortable. Well done, Shure.

I bought these along with the Chord Mojo at good, over the phone from RS Weybridge. I had spent a very long time reviewing which set of headphones I wanted and finally settled on these. Their primary use is in my home office for the working day as well as for use while the wife and kids are watching nonsense on the TV.

My main aim was to get ‘audiophile’ excellent sound quality, comfort and ones that did not leak too much sound. These headphones meet that criteria. I had considered for a long time the Sony M3 or M4s or the B&W PX7 as wireless noise cancelling options, but my desire for the best ‘audiophile’ sound quality eventually won the day, sadly, you cant yet beat wired options.

After reading literally 100s of reviews over several weeks I narrowed it down to either the Shure 1440 (closed back) or the Beryerdynamic Amiron (open backs). In an ideal world I would have trotted along to RS and compared them, but due to C19 that is not possible.

Therefore, I I made the choice of the Shure 1540s for these reasons. 1) Closed back, so less leaking / intrusion of sound without the degrading noise cancelling of other options. The would keep from disturbing others as well as latent noise intrusion prevention that closed backs offer.

2) They are very well-established model with a lot of very positive reviews, and I mean A LOT. They are therefore a very ‘trusted’ options, being out since 2014. 3) Low impedance level compared to the BD’s therefore a more flexible option should I want to use with different devices without the MOJO as they don’t demand so much power.

4) Reviews all made positive mention of the comfort factor. 5) And most importantly all the reviews spoke in glowing terms of the sound quality, which is ultimately the overarching reason. COMFORT These headphones are very comfortable, they are light, and it is easy to forget you are wearing them.

I have fallen asleep with them on, which is fine as long as you don’t try and role onto your side. I do find that my ears get warm when using any cans, not just these, and I have found that I need to take them off now and then to cool my ears.

But that may just be my lugs, and body heat is a subjective area. SOUND They sound excellent. My main music source is HiFi/MQA TIDAL via my laptop or phone, but I also use Spotify and Amazon. I also listen to Classic FM and Radio 4.

My taste in music is more diverse than that last sentence may lead you to think, therefore I wanted headphones to cater for a large diversity of genres. Most of my listening was in combo with the Chord Mojo so it was well driven with a high-end DAC in support.

I will review the MOJO separately, as I have a lot to say about that little box of tricks! The Shures certainly don’t need the DAC, they can carry themselves pretty well just directly plugged into the source.

But that said, the MOJO does make a difference, as would any DAC in the system. To test them I went to songs I knew like the back of my hand but also to artists that I don’t usually listen to, and I must say that the production of certain records stands out really well on the Shures, so much so that it has turned me on to an even wider range of records and artists.

High praise indeed. Genres that stood out where Jazz, harder rock, and electronic pop, ‘softer’ classical pieces and anything vocally driven, from Opera to Folk and all that is in between. Interestingly; the TIDAL 360 offerings actually sound pretty muddled on these, not sure why, but it’s a pretty niche, limited bit of fancy coding by the good folk at Sony, so I suspect it would sound better on their cans.

By way of contrast I also run a pair of Cambridge Audio Melomania and a wired “cheap” pair of Cambridge Audios. Both of which make for better listening on the TIDAL 360 offerings. I would describe the sound signature as ‘pure’.

They remain, in a positive way, very much like Switzerland – Neutral, but self-assured. They know they are good, and they don’t have to try hard to impress. There is no “showy” sound signature, you get a faithful, detailed account of the music without engineered interpretation.

They sound lovely and open and towards the warm end. You get bass that is present but not intrusive, and highs that not needy or whining. The mids sit solidly and musically and where there are vocals they shine through.

They sound and feel really, really good. A few things that worth mentioning: They don’t necessarily look as ‘premium’ as they sound or indeed cost. I think other headphone look and feel more luxurious, for example the B&W PX7, but that is not reflected in the sound quality.

They are sort of like a Ford Focus, reliable, well-built, mass produced, but not like a BMW that retains a high-end mystique, and luxury x factor. They do need some running in (20 hours seems to be the timescale) to find their true potential, and the sound does ‘soften’ a bit which might not be to some peoples tastes.

The case issue re the wires that others have mentioned is actually not an issue for me as when not in use they are hung on my desk lamp. If I used the case it would be to go on holiday (2029 then!) so they would be packed for transport, as I type the case is in my loft, with the suitcases, so a non-essential item for me in the day-to-day.

The case itself is robust and has Velcro cases for the leads and spare bits. Cable length is short, but I actually prefer this, as I am either sat ay desk of have them plugged into my phone so I am glad not be tangled up, I believe extra long wires can be purchased.

Overall I am very pleased with them and would recommend them. I did feel I took the ‘safe’ trusted option, but in the absence of being able to test other models this seemed prudent, and I am not disappointed.

They have a beautifully musical sound and of certainly ‘audiophile’ quality, certainly that is the case when in using with a good source, in my case the Chord MOJO, but they do also sound good (very good) just directly plugged into a source… but as always, you get out what you put in.

They faithfully, effortless deliver impeccable sound, and are not tiring to wear for extended listening. They are aesthetically understated, by that I mean they don’t look as good as they sound. But sitting under the modest covers is some truly musical magic.

They more than met my requirements, they don’t leak like a sieve, and they keep me melodiously cocooned I am incredibly pleased with them, and would highly recommend. I hope to enjoy them for many years to come.

I am a pro music producer and own a range of headphones already I had been using the Audio Tehnica ATH-m50x for a long time but I really hate the comfort of those, they are hard as rocks and very tight too, not good for long mixing sessions, and the sound stage is also very colored and even after 3 years of learning the frequency curve of those, you just cant make good mixing decisions, but they are OK for tracking and recording.

My fav headphones so far are the ATH-M35 even tho they are way cheaper, a bit softer on the ears, they have such good frequency response and such a forward but clear midrange, totally opposite to most studio headphones out there.

Enough about those guys, I got the Beyerdynamic DT990 PROs for mainly long extended mixing sessions and these are actually my favorite now for everything! The comfort is like having two pillows on your head, and I’ve read that some find the clamping force too much? Not at all guys! Its so soft that you wont even notice you’re wearing headphones! The soundstage is a bit opposite to the ATH-M35s, but I prefer that and I use a mix of both during mixing and mastering.

The M35s can show me the overall balance of a song, I make tonal mixing decisions with those. But the Beyerdynamics have a bit of a harsh high-end which is totally perfect for identifying problems in a mix and due to the awesome stereo imaging (cause it’s open-back) I can place instruments very easily in the stereo space.

Its hands-down wayyy better than the M50x for anything besides recording, which is the only use for those rn. If you’re mixing mainly on headphones then I’d say (1) use any good closed-back for recording, something with a lot of color and hype so that u enjoy the music and get a good take.

(2) Then use the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro for production, making synths, recording MIDI drums or even electric guitars and stuff, basically the bulk of messing around with sounds, doing sound design and stuff.

(3) Check the mix every once in a while with a flat response headphone, something that’s not from Beyerdynamic and which doesn’t have the awesome highs like the DT990 pro (for example, ATH-M35) (4) Basically continue your whole mix in these (DT 990 Pro) (5) Check on consumer devices like very cheap bluetooth speakers and Samsung earplugs and you will get a very good production which translates well everywhere! Really loving these headphones, do listen to movie soundtracks from Netflix (Squid Game sounds really awesome!) and also Anime soundtracks like Kimi No Nawa and stuff on these There’s a link somewhere of the music I mixed with these, do check that out! This is my brothers view, after gifting him who is an architect by profession and also plays bass guitar for the prog/djent band RONIN, In and he uses these cans mostly for demo mixing and critical listening (at-least that was his intention.

) Now based on his experience I’ve listed down the Pros and Cons, Pros: 1. Extremely bright sounding. Sometimes too bright for your liking if you are coming from common consumer friendly headphones. Give it some times to burn, it will shine.

2. The bass is there, and its about just the right amount. Its not muddy or do not bleed into the mids. 3. Mids are hyper detailed. Also, the frequency separation is mesmerizing. The soundscape is fairly wide since is an open-back system.

4. The earpads are out of this world comfortable, even the headband itself is nicely padded. 5. The build quality pretty good (as expected from in this price point. ) Cons: 1. These are some power-hungry cans (250 Ohms.

which is technically not a con) since its target use case is mostly to be used with professional studio equipment. If you are planning to use it in your home setup like me, it will work fine if you hook it up to some decent soundcard.

2. Casual music listening might be challenging if you are planning to drive them from your PC or Mobile only. It will run, but not in its full potential. Which might lead you to hate these. A cheap but good DAC like IFI Zen Air DAC can help a lot if you are not planning to spend a fortune.

Some might say “It will lack power or you should go for something more powerful like FiiO – K5 Pro ESS. ” But trust me, you do not need that. If you are not convinced go to any online headphone power calculator and see for yourself, its science.

Do not fall for the audiophile myth crap. 3. Though the classic tracks and modern pop tracks sounds fabulous, some modern metal tracks might not sound that nice, especially the low tuned guitars (tuned in Drop G, F or E0) are sometimes very difficult to be handled by it.

4. Last but not the least, it should have a replaceable cable system. Don’t think the existing cable is bad. They are sturdy and thick, but it will break at some point of time. Also it’s not always very comfortable to have a coiled cable dangling from your left earcup.

The coiled cables are heavy and they have their specific purpose, which you might not need all the time.

dt990 pro good for its price. but. These phones are well made and comfortable, the plastic headband though cheap actually does a good adjustable job, keeps it firmly on the head without ever being too hot or ‘clampy’ – even after wearing for several hours.

[and this in the hot weather!] The foam around your ears is comfortable, too. Sound: everything is ok, the base is never boomy, its quite tight, but it does not extend down much, bassheads would be unimpressed, the midrange is a bit ‘cloggy’ a little muddled, but it is pretty okay, the tremble is a bit suppressed , although transients can be heard – like a cymbal for instance – its steep ‘up’ in sound and then its diminishing down is rather lost.

The stereo separation is not great, trying to listen to individual instruments in any track is quite hard. and there is little feeling of a soundstage. The idea that the music is spread “around you” rather just pointing at your ears.

Still. The build quality is great – impressive at the price. Here it is, i’m listening to a bad recoding but thru Sennheiser hd560s’s at the moment – the 560s are worse in built quality to the dt990pro in almost every regard, but do sound better.

Most of my problems are gone with the HD560s. But. the dt990pro is £100, the HD560s is £140. AND THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPROTANT: the beyer dt900 prox is £210, the Grado 325e is £280 [?] i haven’t heard the dt900 pro x, but i have heard the grado 325.

it was massively superior in every way: no exception. How much do you want to spend? If your limit is £100. the Dt990 pro would be a good comfortable well mad friend for your ears. And as for money? gosh, i shouldn’t talk about it these days.

But i guess there are even better headphones at insane prices. Set your budget. Stick to it.

I purchased an Open Box Demo HIFIMAN HE1000se from Audio46 and could not tell the difference from new other than the box was not sealed. Thank you Audio46 – just as described – like new! I am fairly new to Audiophile headphones but not Hi End Audio Systems.

I have owned and enjoyed many Audio Amp and Speaker Systems over the years my favorite being Magnepan speakers with Ribbon treaters and Martin Logan Electrostatic for their open dynamic sound. The HE1000se headphone reminds me of this type sound bringing it to another level.

The open soundstage image, detail, accuracy and ability to not only pick out individual instruments but hear details in the plucking of individual strings and nuances in singers voices. I am hearing subtle sounds in music I am familiar with I have never heard before.

All of this and I can take it with me – I am using a Chord Mojo 2 to drive these headphones and on top of an amazing experience they are so efficient they are being driven by a high quality DAC/AMP I can take with me and carry in my pocket.

I only wish HIFIMAN upgraded their cables which sound good but are hard to manage and get twisted. That being said they do give you 3 different type cables which works well with different type amps however the headphones sound even better with upgraded silver cables.

I should also mention these headphones are built well, very light and comfortable to wear for hours. I have had several other headphones before the HE1000se but these are the best!.

Sundara is my fourth pair of headphones and the first open ended one. I have the Audio Technica M50X, Sony 1000xm3 and Airpods Pro. Each of them serve a different purpose and I use all of them regularly.

After three days of intense use of the Sundara, it’s not difficult for me to conclude that it stands head and shoulders above the rest. Open ended cans provide the comfort of long hours of listening, which is not possible in the closed ended ones.

Secondly, it’s soundstage, imaging and resolution is unmatched. I am delighted to have chosen Sundara on all counts. It’s incredible frequency respons and flat tuning provides me with the music as was intended.

It’s so crystal clear at its max volume. I am using this with my Fiio BT5 DAC and A3 amplifier ( both together) and it sure does provide music to my ears! At 27k the Sundara stands at an incredible price point, unmatched by competition.

On top of it, it’s a planer headphone. What more can one ask for? When it comes to FLAC, you need to go in for wired headphones. The incredible detailing which FLAC provides can only be realised a pair of wired headphones.

Further, now that I have experienced an open ended headphone, I can say with confidence that open ended cans provide true audio fidelity without the fatigue. Sundara ticks all the boxes and boy, I am glad that I made the right choice.

I had carried out extensive research before hitting upon Sundara and it has proved to be the right choice!.

I understand why Audio Technica did it, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it or accept it, which is why I’ve already requested a refund after wearing them for an afternoon. Build Quality: 8. 5/10 It’s the same as my 9 year old M50’s on my head, which means the hinges will wear down, crack, and ultimately break after 4-6 years of regular use, due to the same design defects that have gone completely unchanged in that time.

No reinforcement, no improvement of materials, nothing. They won’t snap in half after a year like most gaming headsets will though. Comfort: 8/10 (after modification) The earcups are going to turn to dust within a year, might as well buy a replacement set from someone else now to save yourself the trouble.

I have a slightly larger sized head and these things can feel tight after a while, but not terrible. (Based on 9 years of using M50’s) Sound: 0/10 These are not monitor headphones, what you have here is Audio Technica taking the name and legendary status of the original M50’s (which were famous for the flat frequency and wide sound stage, at an affordable price), and using that existing branding and legacy to sell their own version of Beats by Dre.

It’s a real big step backwards for the ATH-M50(x) headphone. The thing that frustrates me the most is that the original M50 sound isn’t gone from their lineup, it just got moved from the M50 down to the M40 line.

That’s not really about the sound so we’ll skip that for now. My only Audio Technica alternative for what I’m needing, is the ATH-M40x, which has a very similar sound to the original M50 I’m so happy with.

The problem however, is that the build quality of the m40x is not comparable to the quality of the M50x. The 40x has smaller headphones, a narrower, less durable and less comfortable headband, and weaker can hinges lead it to more frequent breaks and needs for replacement.

With all that said, I’ve already submitted my return for these headphones, and will be contacting Audio Technica to try and purchase replacement hinges. I’d rather spend $20 on parts to fix my existing monitors which still sound great, than dumping $170 on something that should be the same, but sounds completely different.

Since M40’s are prone to breaking and since the M50’s have become a victim of popular culture, I really hope they have replacement parts for me. Otherwise, I’m likely going to Sennheiser or Sony. I’ll make sure to update this review with whatever alternative I find that I feel best matches the original M50.

design – great, maybe the headband had more durability or more affordable accessories in terms of value for money to upgrade, eg: Bluetooth and mic version upgrade costs almost 60 percent of product price ooof comfort – becomes sweaty in long sessions if you are not in air-conditioned room, your ears will get tired after 2-3 hrs.

even at 90 percent volume. keep volume at max 70 if considering long hrs. use gaming – perfect, even better than some pro gaming headsets which distort real in game sound by unnecessarily amplifying footsteps and faking up the all-other sound which makes the immersive in game exp.

bland no issue with these headphones though sound quality – sound is already in a sweet spot but you can use equalizer to boost bass if you prefer it certain way value for money – yeah it sure was value for money, used them literally every day for 4 years avg.

4 hrs and still so good.

I previously had the Cowin E7 headset and loved it so I had very high hopes to get these. I’ve only used these for a little bit of time yet but they are delivering on my expectations. They come with a carrying case as well as some micro chargers just like the E7s.

The noise canceling is pretty good but it doesn’t seem optional like on the E7s. As far as the button controls, they have volume keys that also work as previous and next track buttons and a power button that also works as a play/pause button.

These even have a switch to toggle how loud the bass is. Thiese features are just as good as, if not better than the button controls on the E7s. If I remember correctly, the E7s had a way to control volume but it was very hard to figure out how.

On the E8s, it’s very obvious how to control the volume. The buttons have the + and – symbols right on them. The. E7s don’t have a toggle switch for the bass either. Physically, the fit is amazing. You can boy your head and your won’t have to worry about these falling off your head unlike other headphones.

One thing I didn’t like about the E7s were the fact that the ear cups would get really sweaty over time. These don’t get so sweaty unless you’re doing a lot of physical activities with these on. As far as the battery life, I remember the E7s being amazing.

You could use those for a month and you wouldn’t have to worry about the battery getting low. I’ve been using my E8s for a good few hours altogether and they’re still supposedly on 80% so I think it’s the same way around with these.

As far as the speakers, I would say they’re better than the E7S. While listening to videos, I can hear the dialogue more clearly than on the speakers on my devices. Overall, I’d say if you already own the E7s and don’t really care about bass, you’re good.

But if you can’t use them anymore like me, definitely pick up a pair of these. They are headphones you will take pride in owning.

Noise cancellation–very good, ,yeah Sony and Bose beat these Cowins but money considered,,by — Very Little , I can buy anything, i need , but Yachts. etc. these Cowins are a solid value for the moneyand quality.

Solid!! However , as in anything else,, problems come with the package. Noise cancellation in a Gym was good but not terrific. Got a phone call ,,then –had to go outside of gym!!. Talked. Back in gym, put noise cancellation back on -fantastic!! Well.

,, in retrospect ,,head set got shut off,. Head set was just set up with cell phone ,, once turned back on everything went according to plan,,blue toothwas married ,,working,,,,good!! Noise cancellation was turned on after starting up.

ah ha! More on this later -performance was great inside gym. Got a phone call while inside gym. at first we talked well, ,then problems– –phone is off, on. off, on ,they can’t hear me. then they can hear me ,i can’t hear them.

Headset is garbage ,,,return ? Ok,, lets retry ,, went out side of gym ,,,shut BOTH devices OFF. Start cell first ,call home get itworking as usual ,,,next ,, start headset up ,,,in normal mode with out NC.

Walked inside gym, now all is ok,,, after 5 minutes. There is a learning curve with the headset ,, I will work on this ,,for the next several days teaching this Cowin e-8. Monday will report back,, ordered a cable with a mic just in case.

Addendum:5 days now have gone by. The cable or cord ordered arrived with 3. 5 mm on both ends. Cowin e-8 phone cure. needs a 2. 5mm end. Sent this info to customer service,,got advised a 2. 5 cable with a mic for Skype calls.

3. 5 end for cell phone very good. Got that answer from C. S several times. So i asked CS to send vendor ,, stock number , etc for the cable/cord needed so I can order such. Since then –CS has given me Don Rickles, one liners,, not one answer,,, not one !!Replies indicate the staff is flat out over worked, does not have time for detailed answers.

Tried to phone CS ,,was repeatedly. stopped by BOT BS every time. Amazon– when bad problems do occur,,Amazon does make it impossible to contact a live rep. for talk , or consultation. So–I can live without A HIGHER END HEADSET.

Overall, I’ve been happy with these headphones and think they’re good value for the money. As someone who upgraded from the E7 however, there are a few strange decisions made with the design that I can’t wrap my head around.

First and foremost, why is the audio jack on the headphone smaller than the standard 3. 5mm? This means that you can only use the included audio cable and any other aux cable you’re likely to own probably won’t fit.

Secondly, I think the vocal “power on” and “power off” announcements when turning the headphones on and off is a little bit jarring, I liked the ascending and descending crescendo tones on the E7’s better.

Finally, I think the buttons on the right earcup are too small, it’s pretty easy to hit a button you weren’t trying to hit when your trying to pause, play, or skip between songs using this interface.

Moving on to positives, the headphones are very stylish, and build quality is much higher than on the E7’s. The passive noise canceling (even before turning on the active electronic noise canceling) is nothing short of amazing.

I was on a flight and frankly didn’t even really need to turn on the active noise canceling. It’s also great that they include a solid carrying case as well as a 6. 55mm adapter (for musical amplifiers) and a 2-prong adapter for use on airplanes.

I simply can’t imagine how a headset could get any better. Spend the extra money and get the Bluetooth option I can stream in a little relaxing back ground music flying and they’ll automatically cut the music off for important announcements.

The noise cancelation is out of this world. Noisey piston engine flights turn into peaceful relaxation although there are very fine tuning dials for left and right if you want to pipe in just a little engine noise.

Just an astounding stellar set worth every penny to vastly improve the flying experience. Just buy them.

I’m a low time (160 hour) instrument rated pilot knocking the rust off after 20 years. Decided not to fly in years past when I could not dedicate adequate time and frequency to satisfy my personal minimums for safety/competency.

Trained originally with no headsets years ago. All the new tech in flying is awesome including ANR. Definitely worth it to have Bluetooth to link with ForeFlight (and phone). Haven’t done much but basic maneuvers and pattern work in first two weeks back in the saddle, but was amused to have my headphones gently and automatically announce final approach, runway 5 as I finished my turn to final at an uncontrolled field.

(Didn’t realize ForeFlight was open on my phone and linked. ) I didn’t really want to like the Bose because I’m not a huge fan of the brand in home audio, but the Bluetooth works well, pairs easily, has a separate volume control (besides the left/right intercom volume control), and has there is a handy switch for selecting muting or off for the Bluetooth source.

Clips are compact and work well to secure the controller on your left pants leg while in the left seat. Sound is slightly boomy for stereo listening to music, but is otherwise quite good. Voices on bluetoothed phone calls and radio/intercom sound (the most important) are outstanding.

I really liked the Dave Clark DC One-X, but the noise reduction was better and the fit was generally more comfortable on the Bose. Had read that some felt the headset made it too quiet and therefore disconnected from engine sounds important for flying with the Bose.

Definitely not true in a 172. Sound is very natural but no more air compressor in your head feel after 30 minutes in the plane. Compared the two headsets standing beside a running generator – both were excellent but the Bose reduced the noise better/more.

As for the assertion that the Bose only seems better due to introducing more white noise, I don’t think so. The DC’s are great but actually are the more hissy sounding when ANR is activated in a quiet environment.

I would still buy the DC Ones for a second pair, but for the cost of a couple hours dual time wet, the Bose has my vote.

So far it appears that the advertised claim of a Bose rebate program for CFI’s is fraudulent. Bose says something about high demand has caused them to suspend the CFI rebate. They don’t announce this, they just render the required link inop.

They also claim the suspension is temporary. You guys have been great, and the product is great too. I just wonder with such a good product, why Bose thinks they have to resort to fraud.

These are an enjoyable set of headphones. Of particular note is the wide soundstage and amazing bass for open-backed headphones. They are very clear, but this an area where they can be unpleasant at times.

Depending on the source they can be rather shrill in the treble. However, this depends on the source because they are quite revealing. If you are sensitive to treble then you are likely to struggle with these at times.

I also have Philips SHP9500 and these are my go-to open-back headphones. The 9500’s, by comparison are a bit light on the bass but I find the treble more consistent and enjoyable over longer periods of time.

They sound very slightly “warmer” than the X2HR’s. Similarly, I have some Fidelio L2 headphones, which are semi-closed, which I use when my family is in the same room. These are also really good with excellent bass and a good balance throughout.

I mention these other Philips headphones as a comparison. There is a definite Philips “house sound” with these three sets, but they all have their particular individual characteristics. In summary, I put the Fidelio X2HR in a very, very close 3rd place.

This is not a derogatory placement. They are really enjoyable for a particular mood you may be in: enjoyable, fun bass, which is not too bloated but they’re not a “basshead” phone. They have really excellent soundstage and the clarity is good.

Sometimes you think the sound is coming from within the room and not the headphones! However, on occasions, they are a bit “sharp” and if you’re not in the mood it can detract. The midrange on all of these headphones is really good.

Comfort-wise, these are good. They need a bit of time “wearing in” as they initially felt a bit tight after the SHP9500’s, which to be fair are a bit loose but extremely comfortable. The X2HR’s, in contrast, won’t move on your head easily, and after a few weeks are no so tight and are pretty comfortable.

They are extremely well made and feel really solid. I really like the Philips headphones I have. Excellent quality at a reasonable price.

Although I wouldn’t call the X2HR a reference style open back headphone, I would say they are a very enjoyable pair to listen to all kinds of music on. I’ve listened to everything from Jazz, Classical, Hip Hop, old school to modern R&B, all eras of rock to Death Metal, and the X2HR sounded great with all of them.

Great detail, ample bass that holds together and the soundstage is wide but not so much that you lose the mix or the vocals. The X2HR is bright, but never sibilant and the treble range allows for great resolving of ear candy usually lost or hard to hear in poorer performing headphones.

I would say the EQ is a bit more of a V shape, but there is enough midrange where recordings never sound hollow. I find the fit very comfortable for my large head and the build quality is excellent. I will say that ear fatigue settled in for me after about 2 to 2.

5 hours of listening at a moderate volume. All in all, a great set of cans.

Overall, the DT 1770 Pro is an excellent headphone for the price. Comfort is very important to me, and having a large-ish head, excludes a lot of the options out there. This headphone is very comfortable, so much so that I tend to forget it’s on my head at times.

Regarding the quality of sound reproduction, I have been using these headphones with the iFi Zen signature set 6xx. The most fitting word that I can use as an umbrella to describe these headphones is “detail”.

detail monsters. You will hear subtleties that you haven’t noticed in songs that you may have listened to 100s of times before. Sometimes these subtleties lie at the outward ends of the sound stage, and this headphone uncovers them.

This characteristic actually put a smile on my face a few times. like wow! I never knew that instrument was there before. Additionally, the DT 1770 Pros can reproduce very low frequencies of bass and they really don’t even break a sweat.

10hz? no problem. they will pump & dump with no issues. These things are a tank in every sense. This brings me to the build quality. and being a German-made product, you can feel the quality. The choice of materials is well considered for longevity, so I have no issues there.

One minor gripe that I have has to do with the leather set of ear pads that come as part of the package. I tried putting them on, but I wasn’t successful as the pleather ring that mounts to the headphone was way too tight to fit on the headphones ring.

Not sure how long they’ve been sitting in the box or what, but they seem to have shrunk.

Received my Beyerdynamic – DT 1990 PRO today. The build quality is outstanding. Many reviewers in YouTube mention/complain about the clamping force, but i don’t feel it that much. All the songs that i’ve listen to so far sound different than before – very detail.

I hear sound that i haven’t hear/less pronounce from by Logitech Z625 especially in the lower frequency range. I love low frequency rambling sound (like in Avenged Sevenfold – Almost Easy), and this headphone did very well in that region.

I am using Fiio K5 Pro, i wonder how it sound with some other DAC/AMP. I cannot say much about the sound quality/quantity that much since i receive this headphone today only. But i can tell that i am going to love it and i think i might need a better AMP.

So I have only had these headphones for an hour but I am greatly enjoying them. Trying out different musical examples on different devices. Phone and computer. I primarily got these for monitoring work for voice over but I havent tried out swapping the ear pads yet.

I appreciate the fact that all the parts are designed to be fixed/replaced to allow for long lasting gear. The sound itself is very clean and braid from the strong lows and blended mids and highs. Im very happy with the design and construction.

As a music head you can imagine that I’ve gone through A LOT of headphones over the years. Some barely last, others make till you blast out 1 side and you have to give them up and then you lose others.

Well I definitely will NEVER lose these headphones, and not just cause I got them sunflower yellow lol, but because I can’t imagine being without them. These are the headphones I’ve been looking for my whole life and didn’t know it.

So here’s my experience:1. I ordered the headphones and the case. The headphones are very well made, durable and sturdy. The case is AMAZING. also very well made and sturdy. And since the headphones can lay pretty flat in the case I didn’t have to worry about this big bulge in my backpack.

This was very handy since I got them right before traveling to South Carolina and I had the case in my carry on (the headphones were on my head). They also come with a hard line for connection which I’ve only used once, not cause there was anything wrong with the cord but just because I’m a very mobile person so bluetooth is my friend, the cord works just fine and is a good length.

2. Sound quality/noise cancelling/call quality: The sound is TOP QUALITY. It’s like having a concert on my ears. Yes they definitely cancel noise LOL you won’t hear someone trying to get your attention unless your doing just ended at the just the right moment TRUST ME ON THIS.

And the call quality is better than I expected it to be. Say first your going to think that you have to speak loudly cause mic is just a small hole but NOPE it’ll pick you up just fine. And I’ve never had an issue with the headphones not connecting to my phone even if I’ve received a call and have to ask them to hold on while I grab my headphones, which for me happens mostly when I’m like washing dishes or something.

They connect effortlessly and don’t hang up my call like I’ve had other headphones in the past do when they connect. I LOVE THESE HEADPHONES!3. THE CHARGE IS AMAZING! So I already told y’all I got them just before South Carolina trip.

I charged them just before the flight, the charge lasted the entire flight, plus my layover, through my entire trip (1. 5 weeks) and back to California. Done being back I’ve charged them 1 time, literally, and each time I’ve picked them they still have a charge so they can hold a charge even when not being used.

Best battery I’ve ever seen on ANYTHING. The genius behind this battery needs a raise!4. (And this will be my final point) I’ve used them during workouts and they stay still. BEST THING EVER!.

Let`s make things clear: I just purchased my third set of headphones Cowin E7. The very first (purchased in May 2018) had a structural problem a little in June or July 2019, after a year of fairly constant use (one earphone became dislodged and I couldn’t fix it).

I contacted Cowin and got a spare within 10 days. and I wear them very often. Suffice it to say that their sound quality is better than the Beats I received with a computer purchase. My second headphones are still going strong in 2021, and I just purchased a third for my son, to wear them with his iPod Touch.

The quality is superb, and the design makes it easy to wear them for relatively long periods of time (like two Netflix movies). Since I know about their customer service, I can trust this company and their products, and recommend them without reservation.

The sound performance in these headphones is what I like: they have a nice, rich bass, with moderately high treble. They are at their best with streaming platforms. I have also paired them with a Bluetooth-enabled portable CD player, my iPhone and an iPod, and the sound quality never disappoints me.

In short, I’m one very happy customer, and if my current headphones failed again. I will return to buy more from Cowin.

As the bronze pick at the bottom of Pioneer’s current DJ Headphone range (behind the X7’s and the X10’s), you don’t expect these to be outstanding. But being Pioneer you do expect them to be quality.

My problem with these is the interference that comes into the headset via any friction against the lead or against the outer casing on the phones themselves. It’s like having a plastic bin put over your head and then being hit by a wooden stick.

The sound quality is ok for 100 and if you can handle the external noise being amplified into your head during mute moments then you will be fine. I couldn’t. If you can find a second hand pair of HDJ1500’s or 2000’s then go for them instead.

Havent had to buy a new set of headphones in at least 10 years but i made the right choice with these. They fit perfectly esp if you have a smaller head, my last two pair (Ultrasone and Sony) were too big.

They are extremely well made and sound exactly right; fairly flat not overly bright and excellent bass. Most headphones i have used i need to boost the high or low end or trim up to get the right sound but these sound more true to the source material.

They arent cheap by any means but like other Pioneer DJ products i have (PLX 1000 turntable, CDJ 2002 MK 2) they are superb.
