20 Best Headphones For Hip Hop (2023 Updated)

The Audio-Technica ATH MSR7b’s are an excellent set of headphones, which are very light and comfortable to wear, even when going for a walk w/a portable player, such as a cell phone or digital player.

They are available in either Black, or in what is called, Gunmetal. They are an over the ear and closed back headphone, which are strictly wired, “w/no wireless or noise reduction features”. The problem w/wireless, and/or noise reduction, they require batteries or will need to be recharged.

Also too, the quality of the music out of them, is not as good as w/a wired head set. You do loose something w/those features when it comes to music quality. The ATH MSR7b’s have an excellent Frequency Response range from 5 – 50,000 Hz, w/an Impedance of a low 36 Ohm, which is low enough to play w/a portable player.

They come w/a pair of detachable 4′ cords, w/a 3. 5 mm and 4. 4 mm plug, also allowing for easy replacement, There are aftermarket cables available. I would say that these are an Audiophile level headphone vs.

Studio, and while I may think the music quality out of them is great, especially when it comes to classical, as well as mild rock, but then again, everyone’s hearing and music tastes are different. When you listen to them, truly listen for the individual instruments.

Impressive headphones for the price, the clarity is what immediately hits you on first listening. Rim shots, claps, symbols and female vocals really stand out but never harshly. The bass is also not missing as some have suggested, used with iFi ZenDac and ZenCan combo, they really do create some great punch and speed.

I find them comfortable too, allowing for multiple hour sessions without fatigue, with just the right amount of clamping force. I have much more expensive headphones in my collection but still I find the ATH-MSR7b very fun and engaging.

You will be surprised what extra detail you hear in songs you have listened to for years, recommended.

My favorite Audio Technica headphone in this price range. Very stylish attractive design. Solid build. Very lightweight. Very comfortable. Excellent stock cable that doesn’t tangle on its own. Forward midrange.

Clear and clean treble. Neutral non boosted low end. Wonderfully detailed sound. Very easy to drive so external amps aren’t necessary at all.

There’s an aspect to both the KSC75s and the Porta Pros that just take the technicality of listening to music out of the equation. Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in making your music sound so perfect that the music loses a bit of its purpose.

These are the sort of headphones that get you listening to more music all of the time. There is still a time and place for when you want your amp and higher-end headphones, but you’ll slowly find yourself reaching for these more and more.

They just sound so good for being so comfortable and easy on the ears. For the price? Untouchable. These will forever be the headphones I recommend to anyone. If only the cord and cord connections weren’t so frail, they would be absolutely perfect.

Unfortunately, there will always be the caveat that any pair’s days are numbered, especially with how much use they will probably see once you get used to them. I popped mine on my Porta Pro headband and added Yaxi Pads and they will most likely continue to be my daily driver until the day Koss stops making them.

I listen to so much more music when I have these around. Love them so much that I picked up some spare pairs to mod with connectors. It also doesn’t hurt that the Drop colorway looks fantastic with the beige Porta Pro headband and orange pads.

First off – this is the ultimate budget cycling headphone. I would never want to ride in the streets with isolating IEMs, and when I’ve tried I’m usually breaking seal all the time anyways. Most over-ear options are cumbersome in their relationship with a helmet.

These strange little clip-on fellows strike the ultimate niche. This all said, I’ve never cared much for the fit in-general – and that’s where I can’t give a five-star. It’s the one of the Koss models where I also think that adding Yaxi’s makes my fit worse, too much material to pinch in their with the clip.

I have not tried a headband mod, if I didn’t have a bunch of KPH30i and PortaPros, I would. Because – sound? I think this is the best of the lot. It feels like there is more presence and shimmer/air here than with the others – particularly the fairly dark PortaPros.

I do love this series of headphones, beating to their own drum. The KSC75 will be limited in genres, the bass roll-off is robust here – I simply don’t ask it to do things it is not good at. If you have the use-case for them, or have enjoyed the other Koss offerings in this line except find them darkish – definitely check these out.

As almost everyone else have mentioned, the sound quality of these headphones is excellent for its price. I don’t speak audiophile, but what I can attest is that it has beaten out headphones/earbuds several times its price in both sound quality and comfort.

However, as almost everyone have also mentioned, the cable is atrociously flimsy and weak. These headphones typically only last maybe 6-12 months for me before one or both sides stop outputting sound due to the cables breaking connection.

However, the price-to-performance ratio is so good that you can get them replaced 5+ times – whether through Koss’s warranty or new if you don’t want to deal with return processes – and still get your money’s worth.

The earclips of the KSC75X may be hit-or-miss for some people. I have a big head. Like, a Megamind-sized head (without the benefits of the mind). Because of this, almost every pair of overhead headphones fit too small and put pressure on the top and sides of my head.

The earclips solve this issue for me. The earpads are thin, but soft and the on-ear style is a lot more gentle on your ear canals than traditional earbuds while still remaining cool on the ears. When they’re on, they stay on.

You can also hear your surroundings compared to earbuds, making them surprisingly great for running. However, the clips, while adjustable, can put a lot of pressure on the top of the ear, which for some may be very uncomfortable for long sessions.

Also, if you have more protruding ears, they might be difficult to fit and flop around (although they still stay on your ears). To solve this, I swapped out the padding for a pair from Yaxi. The larger size of the padding both stops the flopping and makes the headphones even more comfortable.

Don’t listen to the jargon about worse low-end and soundstage with the earclip, they still sound great. If the clips sound like or are a miss for you, you’ll be glad to hear that they’re detachable. You can swap them out with either the headband of a $7 pair of headphones from Parts-Express or even the headband from the Koss PortaPros if/when the same flimsy cable used for those break as well (did I mention how bad the cable was yet?).

Despite the cable durability, it’s hard for me to take away more than a star; everything else about them is just so good.

When I first put them on I expected more. But then when I took them off and went back to my other pair I realized there was things that I could not hear in my other pair. They work extremely well for mixing music.

They work extremely well for sound design. Also the placement of the vocals in a mix is perfect how it sounds in the headphones is how it sounds everywhere else best headphones in the price range for sure!.

Simply put these headphones are incredible. I had high expectations and was still blown away upon first listen. If you love music then the price is beyond justifiable. I am hearing things in my favourite songs that I have never heard before.

Each instrument in a band is audible and in perfect definition. Truly a beautiful listening experience.

These sound great, feel great and cut most bleed through out. Best pair of headphones I have ever owned and with years of studio work and playing through tons of different can, these sound incredible.

I recommend to everyone to try these out.

The material has a cheaper plasticky finish but they look good if you’re not too close. For the price you can’t beat these. I’ve seen really happy headphones for almost double the price. These are not bass boosted so a nice tight bass sound is what you’ll get.

If you’re looking for a deep bass sound, go for something else. What you do get is a very balanced frequency response where you will hear all the different instruments clearly. I’m surprised how good these sound on almost all kinds of music.

(Hip hop not being what I listen to). Country, classic & soft rock, gospel, orchestra, Bollywood film music you name it, everything sounds amazing. I definitely recommend these if you’re looking for a great day of headphones on a tight budget.

I purchased the Focal Clear MG Headphones from Addicted to Audio in Kew. After doing my own research on the Focal Clear MG and reading plenty of reviews online with the headphones in question, I decided to take the next step.

The staff there were excellent to deal with, and after a few emails back & forth, we had organized a time for me to come into the store and audition the Focal Clear MG’s! With my collection of different music tracks I use for evaluation; I was ready to put the Clear MG’s through its paces and give me the final verdict! I went through a few of my music tracks to evaluate each area of performance, and my conclusion was – sublime performance across the board with high accuracy and neutral tonal balance! Now that I have had these for short while my findings are as follows.

Sub Bass: The low-end Bass performance is very solid, the lows just seem to have endless depth but is very well defined in this region. The Clear MG’s Sub Bass performance has superior weight and impact but is not over done.

I find that it certainly can provide well defined Bass that is textured with a tremendous level of authority to give my music tracks the proper rendering in the Bass department. Mid-Bass: I would describe the Mid-Bass performance as being very well layered but extremely neutral within this region.

The Mid-Bass is where I tend to be quite critical when evaluating on any audio system. Once I had ran the Clear MG through its paces it was evident that the Mid-Bass had been done right from the get-go! I can only describe the sound in this category as being very neutral and precise, but also giving me such a well-presented sound that was very precise from note to note and never sounding muddy.

It has particularly good attack and never bleeds into the Sub Bass as to get lost in the lower regions, with the upper region, it seamlessly transitions to the upper Mid-Bass with such a smooth ascendancy and the sheer composure whilst doing so is something to note.

Mid-range: I spent a lot of time evaluating this region because it was just so good to listen to! The Mid-range was phenomenal, I found that it had great detail and portrays the vocal region with extreme precision & accuracy.

I never found the Mid-range to sound harsh or overdone, instead what I got was an exceptionally smooth and well-defined sound. I cannot speak highly enough of the exceptional performance in this region, I went through a fair amount of music trying to find a flaw but instead what I got was superb accuracy and stability through the Mid-range.

Highs: I found that the top end of the Clear MG’s had the correct amount of extension which worked well from the Mid-range to the high end. The sound is very linear and extends into the upper limits of the High range with absolute precision, it never sounds sibilant or fatiguing but rather noticeably clear and extended, the top end is quite easy to listen to and it always sounds spot on.

Dynamics: The Focal Clear MG’s Dynamic capabilities are very impressive, they can also stop & start on a dime with absolute ease! They are truly that good. They seriously have the WOW factor with whatever you play through them, I am overly impressed with the musicality of the Clear MG’s and the resolve that they have.

Even under some good volume (when the mood takes me), they remain very composed and gives me everything they did before – just with extra bite! Sound Stage: Staging ability was particularly good and is realistic.

It was not the biggest or widest that I have heard but was still very well defined. It seemed to tie in the proper dimensions for height, width & depth for proper cohesion for a realistic stage. I would describe the Clear MG’s as having an intimate sound stage that gives you everything, and with the rest of its abilities makes for a captivating experience every time that I put them on.

These are a remarkable set of headphones on all facets of performance – Highly Recommended!.

I was lucky enough to purchase a set of Clear MG’s recently and am still amazed at just how good they are, Sure they are expensive but if you are used to listening to a good hifi then your ears will thank you for these,.

They can be used without an amp and still sound pretty good but plugged into a really good headphone amp they are simply astonishing. Using focals Arche amp with them and the pairing is nothing short of breathtaking bringing out details you’ve probably never heard before.

I do however often simply plug them into my iPad in bed at night and the sound is still good enough to listen to. I have owned high end hifi for years and the only time I’ve heard better headphones was at a show demonstrating the Orpheous headphones at a wallet breaking 30k.

Are Focals own Utopia headphones better well yes but then they are also over 4k and these are about 90% there. You may even be able to keep your kidneys and still own them, If you are in the market for a really good headphone these should definitely be on your list to audition.

I will give these little to no points on comfort or construction. Now, that being said, I can wear them for a good while, and they have held up, somewhat, but room for improvement is needed to make these a top recommendation AND to honor the great sound that they actually provide.

When my beloved, needle in a haystack and fluke headphones finally died after years of use (Koss, no doubt, I mean, they shouldn’t have been any good — very comfortable but also of if ill-considered construction) I went on a ridiculous search to replace them.

I must’ve tried 30 different headphones, of different make and price point, just trying to see if I could find that sound that I had grown accustomed to. It was like going from Blue Ray back to VHS, I couldn’t believe how terrible most cans sounded.

I popped on 4 and 500 hundred dollah Bose, Sennheiser, Sony– whoever, just to see how much better it “could be,” and nothing. I found that higher prices did not equate to better sound. My krappy Koss phones cost me about 40 back in the day.

They had a 50mm driver, so, I got their specs and tried to match specs– still, results were terrible. I couldn’t get back that sound, that fullness, that depth of field, that balance and spaciousness.

It was kind of traumatizing. Anyway, I visit a local shop I like and finally talk to an old guy who knows his stuff and he pops these things on my head. And there it is, like some doc had removed the bandages from my eyes.

The senses were engaged, and I felt at home. Now, if they could put in a stabilizing bar and make the adjustment bands out of durable metal (and maybe a plush pad instead of faux leather) they’d be perfect.

So, I’m not a DJ. I use these for recording and walking about. I like to keep things consistent and I like to stay in the world of sound that these, low cost, decent headphones provide. Check the specs, sure, but put em on and play and see what you think.

These headphones have exceeded my needs and expectations. I wanted some over the ear headphones for my Ipod. So they had to be efficient, requiring less power to drive, and for winter walks keep my ears warm! While I have not tried to see how long the Ipod will last per charge I can state that even after several hours of listening the Ipod is only down about 25%.

The ear cushions are very soft and comfortable. I purchased knowing the Shure history of bang for the buck and was s\pleased this is still the case.

Got this for daughter. Current one was small for her when she was younger. But want one over her ears vs the pods. The look and sound are key and it delivers for my 9yr old taste.

I was looking for a set of noise cancelling headphones for under $100 and these seemed to be ideal. Many reviews mentioned how well the noise cancelling works- not so much. I primarily wear these when I walk the dog and since it is now autumn and the northwest wind has picked up, the first thing I noticed was the sound of wind turbulence around the ear cups.

This never happened with my old headphones (now broken). I live in an urban area and am not far from a freeway. The second thing I noticed was that the whine of the cars from the freeway seemed more noticeable when wearing the headphones than when I wasn’t, maybe because I wasn’t expecting it.

This was not the case with my old pair either. The airport is roughly 5 miles away from my house. The third thing I noticed was that when planes went overhead, the noise was still fairly prominent. With my old pair, I could still hear planes going overhead, but it didn’t intrude on my listening as much.

As far as overall sound, I found the default equalizer setting lackluster. If you buy these, you need to download the app and they have an assortment of preconfigured equalizer settings you can choose from.

I finally settled on “Acoustic” and decided it sounded the best to my ears. You may decide differently. When set on Acoustic I think the sound is very good. You can also adjust the noise cancelling from the app, but even setting it to block out as much as possible I still had the problems mentioned above.

I assume this was intentional so that you are more aware of your surroundings, but although I could hear cars approaching, there was no directionality and I mostly could not hear them till they were on top of me.

I went into Best Buy looking to decide between two wireless over-ear headphones: the Soundcore Life Tune XR and the Sony CH710N. At their regular prices, the Sony CH710N is 80 dollars MORE expensive than the Soundcore Life Tune XR; however, both the Sony and Soundcore units were on sale for roughly the same price on this particular weekend.

With the price difference wiped out (the headphones being separated by only 2 dollars now), I went in expecting to purchase the Sony CH710N. I mean, the Sony unit was on a 57 percent early Black Friday sale.

How could it not be the better value? Instead, I ended up buying the Soundcore unit. The thing that changed my mind was my in the moment opinion of the build quality. Of course plastic is a major component of both of these headphones, but the Sony CH710N display model at my Best Buy was so dang rickety, way more so than the other headphones hanging about.

I don’t know if this particular floor display of the Sony CH710N went through more than its fair share of abuse, but the comparative feeling in hand was that of subpar build quality and materials. I don’t really have anything to say about the sound quality or the feature set for either the Sony or Soundcore unit.

Before today I was using a pair of 14 dollar wired earphones that, to be frank, sounded perfectly fine to me. Suffice it to say, I’m not the one to give any opinions on performance. What I can say is that when I picked up the the Sony CH710N display unit at the store, the immediate reaction was, “nope”– even at the deeply discounted price.

When I picked up the Soundcore unit, I was happy that my first impression was, “this is pretty darn okay. “.

A friend recommended these headphones a couple years ago. They are moderately priced, and produce good audio, but I really hope I can find a way to make them more comfortable. I’ve basically had to use them as the backup headset, because after 30 minutes of use I have severe headaches, and faintness wearing them.

It’s the same problem I have with wigs that are too small. I hope I eventually find a comforter that helps make them not hurt my head, as of today I’ve tried one of the zip up comforters, and the top portion of the headphone is too big for the zipper, so I will be rating these headphones lower than I would have for sound alone.

Another note: The audio for these headphones may not be ideal for edm/songs with heavy bass, these are definitely better for mid/low bass songs. It really depends on what you are looking for. 4. 5/5 for audio 2.

While the ‘deep bass’ is almost totally absent, these little ear buds are much better than I expected with clear undistorted mids and highs with an ‘open spacious soundstage’, that blow the JVC-XX Series buds to the moon and back! They also feature a clear sounding, built-in mic and vol +/- and player controller buttons on the left channel cord.

I’m buying a ‘spare’ to keep around. just in case. They’re no Jabra Elite’s but they’re pretty good for $13. 00. really! Update! The second set of these Betron BS10earphones arrived today (in only 2 days.

thanks linjiajiahao!) and I think they sound about 3 times better than the first pair. While again, there’s no ‘thunderous’ bass, there is SOME bass, and it’s clean and clear, and gets down to the extreme lows without ‘crackling’ or other distortion.

Overall sound is also more spacious and ‘airy’ with a sound stage that seems to go beyond the phones little drivers. Accordingly, I’ve raised the general product rating to a 5/5 because I haven’t heard anything remotely as good and musical sounding as these anywhere near this price point.

Best value for money earphones I’ve found. They typically last 6 months, which I would consider great as I really abuse them and previous earphones I’ve had, some at 5 times the price, have last half that time.

Audio quality is great and bass is amazing. The only criticism is that the connection between the wire and aux has degraded quite quickly on a couple of pairs I’ve owned which has lead to an early death.

I’ve probably bought close to 8 pairs and will continue to buy.

I’ve had he same Beltran earbuds for years. My wife would always borrow them everytime, after all of her earbuds from various companies, would break. I finally just bought her a newer version of my earbuds, the BS10 earbuds.

She loves them.

I use a 15w. Fender GDeck which can emulate a vast number of guitar effects. I find these headphones replicate the sounds pretty faithfully and I can make a lot of noise* (*beautiful sounds, harmonic or otherwise) without bothering the neighbours.

A longer lead would be useful but for the price, they are excellent for the purpose.

If I were a professional sound technician/engineer, I would not purchase these for use professionally (duh!), there are many better headphones for that purpose (and pricier, of course). However, these phones fit my purposes very well and were easy on my budget.

Good enough sound, light and comfortable. We’ll see how long the plastic holds up. I’m pleased with my purchase.

Hello I normally don’t write reviews but I felt like I had to give my you an idea of how these headphones stack up. It has a low price and there is good reason. Really cheap feeling and really really uncomfortable.

The sound was actually not bad, its a flat sound and with some EQ you can bump up the mids and bass but overall pretty good sound. The issue is not of the sound but on how uncomfortable these things are.

I mean I wasn’t expecting much because the price is so low but at least a little comfort. When you look at the pictures it looks like they would be nice and cushy. After 30min of use I wanted to take them off so if you plan on wearing these things for along period then buy another pair.

I will be returning them. Hope I helped saved you some time and frustration.

Got these on a stupid deal of the day. While I plan to use them for recording monitoring, I plugged them into an audio source and pulled up a couple of songs that I like to use when checking speakers and such.

The clarity and frequency response is top notch. I was very impressed by the sound quality. They seem almost as light as on the ear phones, yet comfortable enough to wear for hours. They also block out the ambient noise as good as a set of heating protector muffs.

Definitely worth it.

I have listened to every sound device I own to see how they perform with these headphones. The frequency response is excellent, and the lows, mids and highs are nice and clear. I can pump these with earth-shaking lows if necessary, but I usually prefer accurate music and voice clarity over extra thunder, so I definitely like these headphones a lot.

There are a handful of better headphones out there, but not at this price point!.

Just got it today after ordering it from SDOTD. May/may_not need more breaking in but I left it alone whilst being blasted by my computer sound card (16 bits, 88. 2K sampling rate, flat eq, jazz tunes).

Two hours later, sound is OK. Bass is adequate. Mids sound a tad honky. Treble is not that extended. Soundstaging is average. Comparison is vs. a Denon AHD-1001. My Senn HD600 is at home so not available for direct comparo and I want to get this review out asap.

But then again it wouldn’t be a fair battle anyway. Yes, priced as SDOTD, I will buy it again but it’s OK too if I forget to order then.

Overall, these are a nice pair of headphones for the price I got them here. They have a nice build and pleasant sound for long listening sessions, and I expect to enjoy them for years to come. Build/Comfort: The metal and wood design (with some plastic parts on the bottom of the headband) feels pretty solid.

I feel more confident handling them than I do with my Sennheiser HD 558’s, which are all plastic and just don’t feel as solid. The stock cable is pretty quality, I didn’t like the length of it so I’m glad that it comes detachable.

I do wish these fold flat/smaller so that I could take them more places in my backpack, but it does come with a nice hardcase and the build is sturdy enough that I’m not too worried about just placing them at the top of my bag without the case.

To me, the clamp force is comfortably average teetering on the side of strong, which I like because they won’t slip off as easily if I’m lying in bed. The fit with the stock pads are fine for me, though getting the thicker earpads that Sivga offers wouldn’t hurt.

I also appreciate the hybrid earpads, the fabric is much more comfortable in the long term than full leather earpads because it doesn’t get as hot. The headband is easily adjustable while on my head, but before you buy I would check other reviews, particularly video reviews, because I’ve seen that these do run the risk of not being able to fit those with larger heads properly.

Sound: At the volume I typically listen to music at (around 60 decibles), there is not as much sound leakage as one may expect from a pair of open backs. In the same vein, the soundstage is a bit intimate – there isn’t as wide of a soundstage as I find from my HD558’s, for example.

One reviewer online said this is probably due to how the drivers are housed in the ear cups. I personally don’t mind this “semi-open” feeling, in fact I think it has its advantages at home because of the ability to stay aware of my surroundings without annoying others with sound leakage.

However, you should be aware that if you’re looking to buy open-back headphones for their wide soundstage, these are not the headphones for you. Personally, the sound is pleasantly warm, and the bass doesn’t overwhelm the mids or the treble.

There are definitely bassier “warm” headphones out there, but I find that the Phoenix is the right amount for me. Some songs seem to have a slight veil to me, but the sound is still exciting and detailed without being fatiguing so I can just listen to these cans for hours without issue.

I’m not an experienced audiophile, so I would refer to other reviews to get the most accurate descriptions on the sonic qualities of these headphones. And as with anything audio, I highly recommend trying things out before buying if you have the means.

There’s lots of value in these Phoenix headphones. They sound great, a quality build, great for exercising and very easy to drive. They provide an impressive sound stage in either single ended, or Balanced mode.

First time buying a Sivga Product and am blown away by the superb sound stage and acoustic clarity. ( headphones do sound a bit warm though) This is my first pair of open back headphones and they fit great for my head size.

I heard of issues with the leather ear pads being slightly thin and the drivers being a little too flush to ones ear, howevrr I found them to be more than enough cushion for my ears. ( experience may vary).

The Ausdom M06 is a nice bluetooth headphone. They paired up very easily to my computer. Battery life seems to be very good – about 20 hours. They have a nice bass response – many headphones in this price range have very little bass response.

The strong bass response can overwhelm the high frequencies on some songs. I remedy this with a digital equalizer by cranking up the high freq content and scaling down the low freq range a tad. The over-the-ear cuffs are a bit smaller than most headphones – they are very snug around the ear but not discomforting.

The control buttons on the bottom of the ear pad are a bit small – I sometimes have to fumble a bit with my fingers to use them. They could be a bit larger and cold also be separated somewhat.

I am not a audiophile or a tekkie pro but I do know the 2 things which are most essential while buying a headphone “Comfort plus Sound” and with those Ausdom M05 has passed flying colors. Excellent build quality, durable, comfortable 180degree DJ style rotating ear cups which can completely cover your entire ears.

I am the bass lover and these headphone with 40mm driver produce clear deep bass and right amount of mids hihs and lows. Bluetooth version 4. 0 plus EDR with APTx chip creats rich booming hi-fi sound.

Another cool factor is it got a 400mAh battery lasts really long than actual specs. Overall I am very impressed and happy to have the Ausdom M05.

I have one of these back from 2015! Still going strong. My daughter broke the frame on it (it still works though) so I decided to replace. Bought the newer M09 first but my wife didn’t like the fit and I’m happy I could this old stock of M07 – happy again hopefully for another 5+ years.
