20 Best Hat For Working Out (2023 Updated)

Bring on the heat! With baseball season starting, festival’s approaching and my gardening kicking into full effect, this hat has been a game changer. The hat works exactly as described. One splash in the water and I’m cool for hours.

I love the protection the hat provides from the sun as well. Plus, it’s super cute on!! I’ll never go without this hat in the heat again!.

The Great: This is the material and shape of running hats that I find the best—for looks and function. The fabric and construction is top-notch, breathability is solid, and durability is great. The negative: The only thing I’ve found is the rubber sweatband on the front brow, underneath the brim is really good, and no sweet rolls down my forehead.

HOWEVER, the sweat that happens directly under the sweatband can’t go anywhere and falls down into the eyebrows or into the eyes. By comparison, I used to run in a Nike hat, similar shape, but it was cloth in the front and absorbed the sweat, pulling the sweat away from my eyebrow & eyes.

[For context, I run about 100 miles a month and I live in Texas. So the heat and sweating a tremendous amount happens all year round. ] TL;DR Perfect hat unless you’re getting super sweaty.

Got this hat for work actually. I prefer wearing hats under hard hats (gotta be 5 panel style because rivets can break your skull should you sustain injury) and found these water proof hats. Finally I gave in after months of thinking.

It was a little hot at first and after a while, you get used to it real fast. Very comfy, although the shape is kinda weird bill forward. Backwards is the way to go with these hats and I’m the freshest electrician out there with these bad boys.

I always wore the free running hats some races give away at the finish line and thought it was silly my husband wanted to spend $79 on one. Well I can admit when I am wrong! Love the fit, never feels hot, wicks away sweat and keeps the sun out of my eyes.

I use it for any daytime run and stand-up paddle boarding. I will never go back to the cheapo race giveaways!.

In my opinion, the Sun Runner Cap is an excellent concept but has some serious design flaws; the cord should be adjustable so the user can cover more of the lower half of their face if desired because every person’s face has different dimensions even among users all wearing the same size hat.

The cape itself should basically have a longer & wider circumference. All seams should be heavily reinforced. A removable decent sweatband would be a plus too. PLEASE, no Velcro. The Velcro closure on the back of the Sun Runner Cap got stuck, again, onto the gray fine soft netting vent that is on both sides.

I am NOT reporting this new aggravation to OR; I give up. OR already gave me a partial refund for other damage. Very unhappy at this point. Wish I had returned everything instead of trying to make repairs.

When the Velcro closure is adjusted to fit a person’s head comfortably, exposed Velcro easily snares the netting, pulling fabric threads loose. The initial damage was that the thin black sweatband strip inside of the cap was separated and loose with a ton of threads sticking out everywhere due to shoddy sewing along the seam under the sweatband.

I decided to sew it with hand stitches, took me forever. The front part of the cape does not cover my lower face very well because the string cord does not adjust after where it stops at the bottom of the cape; the cord closure should be adjustable to go up higher, as people’s faces vary greatly in shape & size.

The cap itself is mostly recycled nylon and the shell 100% polyester although an OR rep had simply told me the cap was nylon. Hand sewn stitches to make repairs was more time-consuming and difficult than anticipated.

I then purchased an additional Removable Cape hoping to obtain more coverage and, it arrived with a tear along the bottom seam! Turned out that I actually had to sew the entire seam, not just the torn area, and it was quite difficult to do well making visible stitches with frayed, thin fabric.

A super-comfortable, washable hat that you can sweat in or get soaked, while wearing. Quick dry. Perfect for me. Sizing: I’m prone to sweat a lot. And I’m a fairly large, athletic man with a decently large hat size (6’2″ height, between 59.

7cm to 61cm hat size). This hat is the most comfortable, durable, and easy-to-care for cap I’ve found. At my local REI, it was not in the men’s section, though. It was on the side-display part of the shelves/racks with backpacks, facing the women’s undergarment’s area.

I opted for the neutral grey colored hat, because it’s a better match for my wardrobe. I don’t really care what gender they had in mind, when designing the cap. I just glad I was able to find it. Leaving that info above, in case there’s other genders (including men) who are looking for a cap like this, who don’t normally think about looking in the women’s clothing areas for great gear.

I’ve learned that for certain types of gear & clothing, I’ve been able to find options that are a better fit for my style & comfort in areas that don’t align with the area of the store aimed at my gender.

Don’t be afraid to explore! there’s some great stuff in the women’s area that is really more pan-gender / gender-neutral than some folks might realize.

Was worried that light green edging piping would make it look like a highway construction worker safety vest. It fine, not that bright, hat overall has a nice forest green camo look. The size? I have about a 59.

55 cm head, it just fits, no cord in the back adjustment needs to be used. I believe the Bora Bora II is slightly bigger, so if a 60 cm plus you might want to go with that. I really like the print camo on this one, so.

I went with it, as I say it fits. It’s very light weight. Lot of sun brim overhang. It’s a Boonie, the brim on a boonie is meant to break up the silhouette of the face, so expect a wavy brim, hippie look.

I’m not sure if you would wear this surf fishing in a stiff wind, Boonies are not designed for that. It’s brim is typical soft, probably useful in the jungle, or woods were a stiff brim would constantly get hit, knocking the hat off.

Hat designs are trade offs on conditions. A stiff cowboy brim would blow your hat off surf fishing, it is why I own 4-5 different styles. Around where I saltwater fish, the wind drops to about zero for the hot summer months, a fishing bucket hat too hot as you wear it like a bell, head deep in it, stiff brim.

So a Boonie is nice to have in those conditions. A bucket fishing hat is probably more useful in surf fishing in heavy wind, which would help cool the less cool efficient bucket hat. Basically pick your hats for the conditions.

12 years ago, I bought a 50 UPF hat from Columbia that can be knocked flat, retain its shape, and get wet. I love that hat! It’s 12 years old. I have questions about whether it is still 50 UPF. I have a chronic illness that requires me to wear UPF clothing, because UV light is an illness trigger.

I purchased this hat to replace the old hat. So far, it is living up to my expectations! And I absolutely love the deep blue color! I wish it came in sizes, instead of one-size-fits-all, because I am a small person and it is on the large side, but it has drawstrings to cinch it tight on my head.

It probably looks a little funny, but I bought this for function, not fashion, to wear swimming and hiking. I have other, nicer looking wide-brimmed hats with chin straps that are 50 UPF if I need to look presentable.

This is the 2nd hat I have purchased in this style. I am outdoors everyday teaching PE and it really protects my face and neck from the sun. The reason for the 3 stars is the method used to ship this one.

My first hat was shipped flat. There was no problem with the brim. The brim naturally gets a little floppy in a cute way. This one was shipped folded on 2 sides of the brim in a rectangular shape. When I saw how it was shipped I was concerned because when I put it on the brim hung horribly like a box on my head.

I tried putting heavy things on it to re shape it, I tried washing it and putting weight on it to flatten it, I washed it many times. It is a little better but it still hangs horribly. I am wearing it a lot hoping to wear it out.

Please make sure that your hats are shipped flat. Thank you.

I bought this hat because I really liked the way it looked. Once I received it, I put it right on. Within the first couple of minutes the snapback kept coming undone. From the way it looks, the prongs that hold the hat together are too short and make it come undone.

Because I didn’t want to go through the return process, I just added some black electrical tape to keep it connected. I wear it every once in a while but not as much as I would like because of the black tape.

I like the design and color, accurate to the picture, but the sizing is very unfortunate. My head size is right in the middle of the two sizes they offer. I first got the S/M size, and it was so tight it caused headaches.

I frustratingly paid the extra money to return it and get the L/XL size, and this one is too loose, over time the weight of the bill causes the hat to rotate and fall down too easily. If you have access to a hat store that has FlexFit, I would highly advise you try these two sizes on in person before purchasing.

On a less pivotal note, the logo of the weightlifter on the back seems a bit off, as the stitching that creates the outline of him is off of alignment with the stitching that fills in the design. Upon later zooming in to the image on the website, this is normal, but I didn’t recognize it before.

I don’t like it at all. Seems unnecessary and ineffective. Marking as “would not recommend”, but I’m kind of in the middle.

This is one of my big go-to hats to wear (and I already own *a lot* of hats). What’s great about it is the shape is excellent (there’s structure to the crown of the hat without it being one of those super high fronts that make you look ridiculous) and your head stays cooler during hot months with the mesh back.

Also, a sneaky nice feature? The inner headband is black, not white – given how every hat I’ve ever owned with a white inner headband get grimy after a while (even when washed), this is nice to not have that issue.

I adore my GR1 and was really excited to give this cap a whirl knowing how great the build quality is in a GoRuck product. And in that regard, the cap does not disappoint— it’s made of a comfortable but durable material that I’m reasonably certain will hold up to a lot of abuse while also remaining comfortable against my scalp.

The problem is that the crown is so shallow that I have difficulty getting the thing to stay on my head. Admittedly I wear a pretty large fitted ball cap (7 and 7/8ths) so low-profile caps often feel a little precarious, but this is the first one I’ve owned that actually does come off my head with a little bit of nudging or a gust of air.

The visor’s curvature is also a bit excessive to me, but it’s relatively difficult to back flatter and have it stay put. This is a big pro if you enjoy the degree of curvature it starts out with, but not so much if you don’t.

Most everyone else should end up pretty happy with this, but caveat emptor for people with big noggins.

I am picky about hats since if they don’t fit well and are not comfortable, they just collect dust. When working out it needs to fit well and serve their purpose of helping keep the sun and sweat off your face.

This GoRuck hat is awesome and is of great quality, built well ,durable, while being lightweight and breathable. I thinks it’s pretty cool to be able to change the look as well by changing the patch.

Bought one as a Christmas present to myself which is seen in pic attached. The necklace in pic…. present from my daughter and don’t think I’ll wear it as much as the hat while Rucking :).

It’s tough to find a hat to protect you from the sun without a brim that goes past two inches. For smaller heads, a three-inch brim can look ridiculous. I also like the neck flap. The sizing runs very small, even for me, so I had to get an XXL.

The chin strap is in the style of a bike helmet, which is OK, but it’s just barely big enough for me to use. My only complaint with the hat is that it only has a tiny little vent hole on each side, which doesn’t let much heat out.

But overall, it’s a good hat for sun protection for someone with a smaller head. Just order a larger size than you need (regardless of what the measurement chart says).

This hat is PERFECT, I wish I’d found it 20 years ago instead of 20 weeks ago. BUT BEWARE: sizing runs very small. I am usually a size Large in headware and helmets and this includes the Dakine Pindo Straw Hat.

The Pindo fits me perfect in a Large, but this one’s large was extremely small (couldn’t even force it onto my head). The XXL fits excellent though (I usually wear a 7 1/4 or 7 3/8 in western hats if that helps anyone on here for reference).

Use this hat for paddling. Offers great protection from the sun and fully adjustable. Sides of brim are shorter than front and back, but I actually prefer it like that. Brim is made of foam so hat floats if it goes overboard.

However, this is unlikely due to the security clip at the end of the chinstrap. Just clip it to your vest and you’re good to go.

I wanted to love this hat, but it’s just OK. Style wise, I really love it, and perhaps it should just be advertised as a casual wear hat (not a “full throttle” hat). It also provides ample sun protection.

It wasn’t lightweight, but it wasn’t too heavy. After a one week paddle trip, the color – which I loved – had noticeably faded. Whenever I tried to use the snaps to raise the brim, it completely lost it’s shape and looked like I was wearing a heavy sock on my head.

Finally, sizing was an issue. I bought the S/M, which indicated 54. 6-58. 1cm, but it was too large. I have several bike and ski helmets with ranges from 52-56cm, so I thought this would fit, but it seems I am below the threshold for this hat.

I have such a hard time finding wide-brim hats that fit my head. They’re usually too small and end up feeling and looking uncomfortable. The large size of this hat fits so well AND it has a nice structure to it that looks good! Bonus: I love the umber color too! My hat’s maiden voyage took place on a four-day white water rafting trip on the Rogue River in Oregon.

It was great for keeping rain out of my eyes too, but I would say the only down side is the canvas takes a longer time to dry out when it’s been soaked. I don’t mind though – this hat is my new ride or die for summer adventures!.

Wore a green version of the hat for three days hiking in Yellowstone. Developed incredibly ugly sweat stains and a brown ring around the crown. Very disappointed. I have owned several sombriolet sun hats and they have performed flawlessly.

Bought this because I liked the color. Stains would not wash out and I ended up tossing the hat in the trash.

I have never been a hat guy mostly because hats in the past have always felt too big or too hot when I golf or go to the gym. This hat is a perfect stretchy material with perforation for extra air and has great comfortable fit without a large crown and adjusts so easily.

I went from not being a hat guy to buying two of these hats in different colors. Can’t recommend them enough.

This hat is a pretty awesome at the gym. It’s comfortable, fits right, feels good, and it looks good. Additionally, it doesn’t get funky after a workout and it dries off quick. I ended up purchasing another one in a different color, which pretty much sums up what I think my of this hat.

These hats fit my head perfectly! I’m really picky about hats and how they look on me. This one is great and of a very good quality. Order 4 more different colors of this one and another version.

Ordered 3 hats on 12 February – that’s 12 February — and due to arrive on 22 February (10 days is more than enough time) but still not here on 28 February. Finally arrived on 1 March only to find three hats that are too small for me.

I’ve had scores of snap-fit hats in the past and present, and while I do take a large size (7 1/2), I’ve never had one that will not fit at all (on the last “hole,” the Born Tough hat fits literally on the top of my head – I cannot pull it down!).

Unbelievable. Lastly, the “Born Tough” logo on the front of the hats is NOT the one shown in the website advertisement. Yes, that logo on the website was one of the reasons I was attracted to and purchased the hats.

Needless to say, your service has been less than acceptable (“Terrible”). Very disappointed, to say the least. Sorry, but no more Born Tough for me. Question is, “Will Born Tough make this right?”.

One size fits all doesn’t. I take an XL Football Helmet and this cap doesn’t fit. I set the snap to the last one, and the cap is way to tight so when i put it on, the snap ‘snaps’ off. So i put black trainer’s tape to hold it together but when on the cap puts too much pressure around my head.

My XL Football Helmet doesn’t put that kind of pressure even when i use it to hit another guy!.

So I’m the type of person who does not leave the house without my sports cap. I have a collection of athletic hats and I just added Born tough’s black colored cap in my collection. It was undoubtedly a good purchase.

I am happy with the quality.

This hat is everything I wanted. The comfort is through the roof: the material is light and very soft, the lack of structure and soft brim make for all day easy wear, that cradles your head. The style is perfect, simple stylish logo.

I can’t wait to order another color. I thought I was lost once outdoor research stopped producing their performance trucker, but little did I know I was being lead to an even better hat.

I bought two of these hats and loved them, they were definitely my favorite two hats. I decided to buy two more when they were back in stock and they changed the brim material. It’s not stiff like the originals.

I’m sure it was a way to cut costs, which is a bummer, as I really loved these hats, but I will never buy them again.

Works well for exercise outside. Wicking and keeps my head cool. A little on the big side. I have a smaller head but I have to tighten it with the Velcro strap all the way and the pony tail hole bunches up the back because of how small I have to tighten it.

The pony tail hole is on the lower side as well, wish it was a little bigger or higher up on the hat.

I don’t like this hat at all. It’s fine if you’re sitting around but once you start walking fast or running, it starts lifting up. It’s not even an inch of material on my forehead & it fits very loosely.

Yes I adjusted it. If you have a pony tail to put thru the back, forget it. I’ll be returning this. It doesn’t feel sturdy or stable at all.

So far so good! As an avid runner, I appreciate a good lightweight hat. What more to say? It looks good, blocks the sun and really feels as if there is nothing on top of your head. Adjustable in the back.

And the price is just right!.

Not only do they not have logos (not paying me not presenting a logo) but yhey are better quality than the name brand products!!!

I’m not a hat guy, I resisted wearing them for a long time. Now that I have little natural protection up there, a cap was in order for my walking habit. The Easy Miles cap is so comfortable, light and protective, my mileage has increased.

This is my second Territory hat. They’re great for everything. durable, washable, packable, comfortable, stylish. What else can you ask for in a hat?

Love it’s construction and adjustability. When cold I and sailing I can put a watchcap on and my ballcap over it and adjust for comfort and stability. Take off the earchcap and quickly readjust tension.
