14 Best Harley Slip On Exhaust (2023 Updated)

Looked at many different options for slip ons. I’ve previously used Vance and Hines on multiple occasions and wanted to switch it up and also have a different look. These slip ons are very nice quality with beautiful chrome and a nice rolled and flared tip.

Being shorter and a smaller diameter than the stock muffler they look sharper and in my opinion very muscular on the bike. The sound is amazing! At idle they are deep but not obnoxious, even under moderate load they sound authoritative but not annoying.

When you get on the throttle though they make the bike sound like a roaring pack of Tyrannosaurus Rexs! Great sound without any bad feedback and on long trips they do not make my ears ring. On top of all this the price is unbeatable for such a great quality product.

I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants a very pleasant deep rumble from their M8 Softail and doesn’t want to break the bank. Installation was a breeze and took all of 30 minutes.

2018 Sportster XL1200NS (HDI) As expected – top quality from Vance&Hines Fitment: these slip-ons are not 100% ready for installation “from-a-box”, for my bike I had to buy a set of muffler gaskets and there is no even a single word about gaskets in the instruction.

Bought a set of OEM gaskets just to notice that it’s not compatible because of longer muffler’s “nose”. Then I bought an aftermarket set of gaskets which is shorter and without a “stop-ring” to let it slip the full length into muffler’s nose.

Keep it in mind because those gaskets are not cheap. So I’ve spent additional 80$. Sound: Loud but not too loud to worry about your neighbors. I was riding with shortshots staggered + quite baffles for a while and those pipes are louder, also slip-ons have a deeper tone Performance: I have an Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner and FP3 fuelpak You’ll notice some torque drop below 3000rpms comparing to stock, but it’s not critical, just forget about that magic “kick” on lower rpms.

In return you’ll got a little performance boost on higher rpms and overall wider range of “usable” rpms and smoother ride as result.

Bought for a 2020 FXBB. Love it! Not too loud, just perfect, definitely louder than stock. No performance, just sound. Wont break the bank. My bike has spirit now. It has soul. It has authority. It is now a Harley.

The Vance and Hines 3 inch slash cut Slip-On mufflers look and sound great. The mufflers are solid. very well built and finished. The satin black finish is very clean and even, they look great. The installation is very easy.

Some penetrating oil helps on the hardware before removal. With the bike cold remove the old mufflers, a slight wiggle maybe needed to remove them. Once removed, clean the head pipes mounting surface, mineral spirits works.

Be careful to clean the new mufflers before starting the bike. The original clamps will work, a light tap from a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer helps. Be sure the heat shields are centered, and check the muffler alignment to sit properly.

The clamp nuts are better positioned downward to have a cleaner looking installation. Secure everything and wash any oil, hand prints or debris from the mufflers. Mild soap and water works. Dry off the mufflers, check for any gaps at mounting flanges.

Be sure the shields are secure, and the mufflers are bolted to the hangers. Start the bike and check for leaks or gaps. Let the bike cool, recheck all fasteners. The bike the mufflers went on, is a stock 2016 48.

No remapping was needed. There was a slight pop upon deceleration, the plugs were checked. The engine runs lean from the factory, 93 octane is highly recommended. The plugs were a medium to light brown, no white on the tips.

The sound is loud, and deep but not popping, you can feel the exhaust pulse think of a big block V8. The mufflers are well worth the time and money. The installation is easy, take your time and be clean with it.

I have put 450 miles on them with no problems. I would highly recommend them.

Arrived on time. I planned to just review the installation instructions and loosen the stock mufflers on my 2013 Softail Slim. After starting, I ended up finishing the instal. Took about 2hrs. I will say, the most time consuming was getting the stock clamps on the new V&H mufflers.

I choose the V&H mufflers because I was told I wouldn’t need to remap. They were louder than I expected, but not wanting to switch to the “quiet” baffles. I do agree with those who feel the V&H mufflers should ship with the “quiet” baffles.

Was a bit confused, as the box clearly indicated that a Fuelpak was necessary with the V&H slip ons. Took the bike out and it definitely had a decal pop. I had also switched out the stock air filter to a K&N unit so I thought that might of been the cause of the decal pop.

Put the stock air filter back in, and was definitely a cleaner decal. I decided to order the Fuelpak. Should arrive this week. I’ll put the K&N air filter back in and remap. You can hear the new mufflers through my full face helmet, but not an annoying loud level so will keep the standard baffles in.

The V&H 3 ” slash cut mufflers are great quality, very nice chrome, and pretty easy to instal. Take your time, read and understand the instructions and it will go smooth. Great working with Revzilla!!!.

I love the tone that comes out of my 14 sporty 72. Took all of 15 minutes from opening the box till I started my bike up to hear that nice deep throaty tone. Install was easy, just had to loosen all the muffler bracket bolts because the tips are a tight fit on the front cylinder part of the bracket.

I really don’t see much performance wise but this is also the first bolt on part for my bike. No need to tune the bike yet unless you’re going with full exhaust or changing your intake to a better breathing system.

The one thing that is the pipes only came with cobra etched in one pipe not both, kind of peeved about that but overall I’d say get these pipes they rock!!.

I bought this for my F800GS, after an off-road nap that dented the original can (and I was also kind of tired of the original noise); It sounds *fantastic*, it adds a deep tone to the bike, adding a lot of presence.

I’ve opted for using the DB killer, mostly concerned about cops in the city, but it still sounds great, I love it. I must say I also installed an AX-FIED control unit to put more temper to this baby.

The only downside is that between the two your MPG will go to the floor, mostly because you’ll find yourself high-revving like a hooligan just for the sake of it. It costs half the price of the OEM can, weights less and sounds better.

What else could you ask?.

Not a lot of slip on exhausts in this price range, easy install on 2014 f800gs. A little tight against side mount of my vario case box, but works with a small spacer. The spacer that came with the kit (for 2011-12 model) was a bit thick, so I had to buy one from local hardware to keep it from rubbing.

It’s super loud without the insert, if you want to be seen and heard in the city, it’s probably a good thing. The hole to mount the insert was a little bit off center, kind of tough to get the screw through it and while tightening down the screw, the spot welds the on mounting nut broke.

Had to use some needs nose pliers to keep lt from spinning to tighten and used some blue thread locker. This exhaust is much lighter than stock, about 4 inches shorter, looks better, sounds better. I’ll cross my fingers and hope it lasts a while.

Was looking for a slip-on to give the bike a little better sound, and peel a couple pounds too. This fits the bill, it shaved about 6 lbs. , fit and installation was very good, looks great w/ the black carbon fiber on the white GS.

I didn’t like the polished pipe and scuffed it with scotch-brite to match the factory pipe. I believe it is cooler at running temps. also to reduce some heat exposure to soft bags etc. OK, sound, without DB killer it is STUPID LOUD ! Obnoxious harley w straight pipes loud, no kidding.

I put the DB killer in and wanted just a little more so cut 2″ off the inner length, sounds great now, plenty of rasp on the throttle yet not annoying while cruising. Can’t believe claims of big HP gains, but seat of the pants bottom end seems slightly better, maybe it’s just in the noise.

All in all happy w it.

loud pipes if that’s what you’re looking for. they were probably a bit too loud, given feedback from buddies i rode with (if they were behind me they had to ride on my left side because of the sound).

the sound was good though – a low rumble). easy at home install.

Installed on a 15 FXSB. The instructions are well laid out and I was able to install the pipes without much problem. I did have to round out the mounting plate holes so that there was a bit of adjustment.

After securing to the head, the top pipe mount holes were about an 1/8 of an inch off. I could have forced it, but would have likely torqued on the head. The only other issue was the exhaust gasket. The stock gasket is the recommended gasket by V&H, but is essentially crushed by the pipe with has a blunt end.

The stock pipe has a tapered mouth for which the gasket was designed. The seals were fairly new, as I only had 1200 miles on the bike and were pliable. I would recommend new seals when doing this. I did the torque on the head in 3 stages instead of 2 because of the crushing effect of the gasket.

Time will tell how well it holds up. Otherwise the pipes are what they should be.

2014 HD CVO Breakout. Revzilla got these to me fast. Removal of old exhaust/installation of new took 2. 5 hours including installing V&H FuelPak. Time included having to drop OilBud oil cooler to access front pipe sensor connection.

Easy install. Not V&H’s issue but hardest part and most time consuming was rear head/rear nut exhaust mount. Don’t know if it’s specific only to my model bike/110 engine but was tough to get to while not marking up chrome oil tank.

Pipes are a bit louder than expected but no complaints. sounds sick. Highly reccomend these pipes.

As many others have said this pipe is wonderful. Very nice deep rumble and a little purr on the overrun at low rpms, and any heavy throttle action will seriously wake it up. I purchased the stainless variant and its developing a nice gold/bronze finish at the headers and welds.

Can definitely run it without the heat shields to show off the unique patina it’ll develop. It also doesn’t drone at highway speeds which is a definite plus. For context I use a HJC CL-17 with custom molded ear plugs as it isn’t exactly the quietest helmet on the market, and without the ear plugs my ears get fatigued from wind noise more than the exhaust note.

Tuned with the FP3, it’s definitely a great combination for a Stage I setup. Pros – Light – Sits closer to the bike so it is less prone to melting the heel of your boot while riding, or singeing pant legs, or burning your calf at stops – Bassy sound that can be tamed to not wake the neighbors – Ease of installation – Easy on the ears when cruising – Will not get in the way of rear axle and axle nut for tire changes compared to stock Cons – Finish is delicate especially when installing exhaust flanges and retaining clips, but just be sure to follow the tips on the installation sheet and use zip ties to keep the flanges from flailing around.

Couple notes; the bike does tend to tilt to the left at stops as the heavy stock exhaust isn’t there to act as a counterbalance. It is not at all disconcerting but it is something to be aware of when taking it out for the first time.

I also had to adjust my brake pedal down a touch as if it is set too high it’ll make contact with the rear header pipe. Aside from that, use anti seize on the O2 sensors and enjoy the ride.

Overall, I am pretty happy with the slipon. There is a small but appreciable bump in power, both higher speeds at lower rpms as well as a smoother and quicker throttle response. The sound is very good, a nicer rumble than stock that emphasizes the typical potato-potato idle of a Harley.

The cons: a. I think I have a lot more engine movement on the mounts which does concern me since the mounts already have 25k miles on them and I’m about to go on a 10k road trip. b. These are louder and more obnoxious than stock: cars are staying 3-5 car lengths back.

🙂 c. The weld between the sections is very noticable, even more so because it is chromed over. That was a little unexpected given V&H’s reputation for high quality work.

Watched many videos on products and ratings. Went with what Revzilla had to say and video tutorials. (Thanks Lemmy). Product says it takes 30 minutes to install. At the time I had use of only one hand and it took me about 65 minutes from start to finish.

So it’s pretty easy. one beard. Vance & Hines makes a great product, solid as a rock, looks awesome and sounds amazing. I had to use red and blue loc-tight, product was not shipped no big deal. Just make sure you have both on hand.

Highly recommend if your looking for something louder than the stock (sounded like a moped) but not to loud where you will grab the ear and eye of an Officer. Like I stated, Vance & Hines makes a great product and without checking with Revzilla and the gang I would have not purchased this item.

Although I didn’t buy the parts from Revzilla, I do own this as i got a good deal right after I bought the bike elsewhere. This is an exceptionally well built product. Vance and hines build quality all they way! The pipe took me about 20 minutes to pull the old one off, put the new on and clean it off.

Instantly on firing it up, it sounded like what i always thought a harley should sound like. It has a good deep low rumble at idle and revving it up sounds fantastic. It is not obnoxious loud, but a good Harley Rumble Noise!! Highly Recommend it.

Fit well on my 2015 Low rider FXDL. I also did a Kuryakyn High Flow air cleaner and finished it off by mapping the bike with a Fuelpak FP3 from Vance and hines. All said and done, i think this combination of upgrades is the best upgrade and bang for the money right now for this bike.

I have bought other parts from Revzilla and would recommend buying from them. Always had good experience dealing with them.

Ordered on Monday in my driveway on Thursday and on my bike an hour later. The chrome is perfect! The box was delivered damaged on the outside and I was worried that the delivery guy messed it up but they were double boxed and wrapped tight.

I prepped my bike and after a little elbow grease needed to remove old mufflers the new ones slipped right on. I had prepared by watching the awesome revzilla videos and while there were a few extra steps had them on in about 40 mins.

I actually had to double check everything since it was so easy. In addition I upgraded air cleaner to big sucker and used fulepak3 tuner. Sounds great low rumble, noticeably different than stock and when you crank the throttle it really gets on.

It took me awhile to decide what slip ons to go with and I picked these after countless videos online. I would’ve rather done a full system, but didn’t want to sacrifice a 5 year unlimited mile warranty when I’m someone who averages about 20k a year.

Between these, the screaming eagle snorkel intake, and screaming eagle tuner, my low rider runs, sounds, and looks great. These mufflers are loud, but not obscenely neighbor hater loud (I hope), and have a really great sound.

Loud and full of bass at idle, absolutely killer under throttle, and yet, mellow thumping when cruising. All that said, I wish they would’ve included the gaskets and saved me a stop at the local dealer on my way home Friday.

The guys are bootlegger harley in Knoxville are incredibly rude because when I said what system I went with, they proceeded to talk bad about my choice because it wasn’t the TAB system they push. So screw them.

The fit and finish on these mufflers are great. The chrome looks better than the stockers. Sound was just what I was looking for, not too loud, not too quiet. They do bark a little when accelerating, but are not annoying at a steady throttle setting.

Overall I’m very happy with these slip-ons. The true test will be how well they do in the long run. I put these on a 2015 Road Glide that has a catalytic converter in the header pipe upstream of the mufflers, without the cat, they would probably be a little louder.

Don’t look any further. These slip ons provided everything your looking for. With the easy to remove baffles, these pipes go from medium loud to extremely loud! So you have 2 sounds to choose from, depending on the sound you want.

Harley techs said as long as you only upgrade the muffler, it doesn’t affect back pressure. I’ve ran 1,000 miles with no baffles and no popping or performance loss. No real gain either. These pipes are for sound only.

They look great and are super easy to install.

I have a 2008 twin cam ultra and the screaming eagle slip ons are very weak, after much research I bought a pair of these after I saw the video and review on this site. all I can say is money well spent.

perfect fit and the finish was great. with the baffles in they are real nice have a good tone. when you take out the baffles wow it is very loud. like you will get a ticket loud. I run with baffles in.
