20 Best Hardtop For Jeep Wrangler (2023 Updated)

Only 4 stars because they originally had sent me a used or returned top that had missing parts and stripped screws. If I’m paying $800 for a new top I want new not a used one. They did make it right and swapped it out right away though in less than a week.

The install wasn’t that bad just like some other people had mentioned the threaded handles could be about a quarter inch longer at the least and had a hard time with the driver side for some reason like other people mentioned also.

I found out if you put the clip on and screw it in place that’s like 2 steps later it will match up and thread a lot easier. It looks good and fit well it just needs time to stretch out a bit more because right now it is hard to close back up.

Over all I’m happy with the look and ease of opening it up.

Yes, it is a little pricey but I have no regrets. So much better than dealing with removing and stashing the freedom panels. The only drawback would be that the wind is a bit worse with this down than simply with the panels out.

But I get so much more use out of this. It’s a positive trade off. Installtion was pretty easy doing it alone. I only had one bit of difficulty where I thought the bolts were going to be too short until I realized the rails were not seated fully.

So that part was tricky getting them fuly seated but once I realized the issue I sailed through it. Once I got them seated good it was a breeze to finish and it fit like a glove. Had I been outside with better light I’d probably not have had that trouble.

But it was a rainy cold day so I put them on inside my garage with less than great light. Getting the z-clips in was not super easy nor was it that hard either though it took a try or two. With it closed I see very little noise difference.

I have had it on a bit over 2 months and went on a 3 week business trip right after installing it and it was outside in a lot of heavy rain and not a drop got through. And I have since driven in rain quite a bit and it has remained dry.

So it has been leak tested really well and came through with flying colors.

Great product but installation for a novice like me was tough. The 1 hour installation time was 1/2 a day with an assist from my mechanic. All the parts were included, everything protected well for shipping.

I had difficulty getting the holes to line up and cutting a slit in the roll bar cover was not enough. I had to remove a good square of material. Once I had it all together except the big screws that go into the freedom panels I tried to close it and I couldn’t.

My mechanic was in and he helped out for a total of 10 minutes and had it all in place. Pays to know what you are doing. I’ve had it retracted then back in place numerous times now. Absolutely love it.

This was a purchase i was nervous to make because of fitment and cost. After having it for about a month I can say I am more than a 100% pleased with this product. Once ordered it got here much sooner than expected with good packaging.

After initial opening of the box the whole installation took about an hour and a half. The back window was a little hard to get on because the fitting was a little tight but I was told by a lot of jeep owners that by the first summer it’ll stretch a bit.

But the quality of the material is great and it looks amazing with my black Jeep. The tops already been through a few rain storms and is great. Really no leaks and keeps my stuff dry. Like I said in the beginning I am more than a 100% pleased with this product and If your looking at getting one I definitely recommend it!.

My 2005 TJ needed a replacement for the original soft top but the Bestop seemed pricey. I gave Smittybilt Bowless soft top a chance and I love it. It looks great. Less equipment to mess with. The one issue is the top does not fit the OEM windshield header.

If you have an original soft top on your TJ, you’ll need to get a new windshield header for soft tops.

I didn’t want to spend the money on the “fold back” type of top, so I ordered this one. I was NOT disappointed!! It fits great, LOVE the storage pockets in the front, wasn’t too hard to put on. I put it on mostly by myself in 100 degree temperatures.

Had to have a bit of “muscle” help from the boyfriend to get the windows zipped up, but I think, had it not been so hot, I could have gotten them on myself. The storage for the windows is so convenient! Looks great on my Jeep!!!.

This is a nicely designed, easy installation. Frame and fabric materials are high quality and fit perfectly. The operation is simple. Roof closure is snug, with no rain leaks. The twill top is a single layer of stout fabric.

There is definitely wind noise when closed at highway speeds, but with the roof open at 35-40 mph, wind and road noise are not an issue. The big, unobstructed roof opening is terrific. Open or closed, the Bestop Sunrider looks great!.

I love this thing! Easy to install, looks great, adds so much convenience. I got this installed in less than 30 minutes. It has already rained multiple times since this has been installed and rained pretty hard.

No leaks whatsoever. Also, the noise isn’t that much louder than the Freedom Panels, even on the highway at above 60mph. The only gripe I have is that the left locking latch is a bit loose feeling when the top is closed.

This happened on the first top I bought and I thought that was wrong, so I had a friend buy that one from me knowing about the loose latch and I bought another top. Unfortunately, I had the same problem with the new top only not as loose as the first.

Even with that somewhat loose latch, I don’t regret buying this at all. I love it. So easy to remove for the winter months and put the Freedom panels back on. Wholeheartedly recommend this top.

Bought this for my JK as an ’emergency’ cover when it rains as I live in the desert and keep the hard top off most of the summer. With the windshield header attached, the cover rolled up fits under the rear seats.

When it rains, it takes less than 3 minutes to install. Since the top only covers the roll cage, it is not 100 protection. Some rain will get in between the top and doors. However, for the price, it is a really good way to get quick rain (or sun) coverage without having to put the hard top on.

The only issue is that the rear clips are plastic and limits how tight you can make the top. However, this was easily fixed with a couple of carabiners and eye bolts at the attachment points.

Top is ok but, top holds water over the driver and passenger front area when parked because the way it is secured in the front sides. The top has wraps that wrap around the front side roll bars that create a countersunk area overhead.

Water pools in this area and leaks thru the sewn stitching. I’m going to try to wrap some pipe insulation over the roll bar in this area to try to raise it. Another problem is the header channel. It has tension knobs to hold the roof on that poke up.

From the front above the windshield all you see is two bumps under the top which in my opinion look stupid. I don’t know why they can’t develop something closer to a factory type fastening system. Maybe some foam padding under the roll bar will help with the water leak.

Otherwise top is nice. Fabric is heavy, a little flutter at highway speeds but tolerable.

I purchased this top, installed it and took the jeep for a drive. The top flapped heavily even at 25 mph. The flapping was so bad that I turned around after 10 min and took the top off, folded carefully and put it right back in the box and decided to return it.

Unfortunately when I called customer service the rep told me that because I installed the top I can not return it. I asked how I was supposed to know that the fitment was poor and the top flapped heavily while driving without installing the top? He said I understand your perspective but we cannot return the top.

He said that you may want to sell the top on Facebook. This is unacceptable customer service and unless ET makes this right I will not purchase another thing from them. PS: The header bar that had to be purchased separately is not well made either!.

Love the top, keeps my bald head from burning. Install directions aren’t great. Strap A is the strap to the rear. Also get your back straps attached with a little tension so you can actually get the front tab to stay in place.

So, first things first! The lights are amazingly bright and, IMHO, well worth the $$$. However, there were no instructions included, which is fine since FOR THE MOST PART THESE ARE A SIMPLE SWAP with the existing harness.

However, the heated versions I received had an additional red wire that does not plug into the harness. What should I do with it? Is it required for the heated portion in winter? Red usually indicates a powered wire, but how do I know for certain? Should it be a switched power source? Should it be wired with an inline fuse? Should it be wired with a relay? Ultimately, I received an answer from JWSpeaker, “You can ignore the red wire unless you want DRLs.

” Still not enough info. suppose I DO want DRLs, some guidance is pertinent given that these things cost a small fortune that I wish I’d put into a new bumper or lift! All in all, excellent lights but poor customer communication.

Much time was wasted searching their website to only fail to find any information. The Truck Lites might be a better deal since they cost less money for similar output. Now I have to figure out how to wire up DRLs and I get to repeat the process.

Watch the online video first and it looked simple and perfect fitting. I did not notice the door surrounds as an integral part of the perfect fit. I don’t have door surrounds so needless to say, I don’t have water shed to the outside of my doors.

Light rain comes straight in to the inside of my doors. Having said that, after looking at the picture on the outside of my package, my install is similar to the picture, however I ordered it expecting a fit as shown in the installation video.

Outside of that my only complaint is that the Velcro straps keep pulling apart as they are too short to wrap around the roll bars. I would recommend a little bit longer Velcro strap with a wider grip area.

I already have this Soft Top purchased three years and it is a great value for the price, thus why I bought it again. It does not come with the additional frames and door jams kit, but since I had it from the first purchase it made sense to buy the same product.

Be very careful when locking the window clips in the top front of each window as my first Soft Top clips broke and when it rained, water ALWAY came in. Its a VERY tight fit after the first use and that is where you have to be careful with all of the clips, as they are plastic and can easily break.

Next Summer I will purchase the roll down top, they are pricey but after four summer of fussing with a time intensive top when wanting to easily have the top off/down I will ensure to save for an easy top verses one that does not fold down.

The top looks over all great. However the instructions are completely useless. This top was clearly a return and could see where it was started to put together. A few places went right in place other spots not so much.

Behind the driver side rear door does not stay sealed. Going to wait for it to warm up again and try to adjust it. HIGHLY recommend leaving it out in the sun for a few hours prior to putting it together.

So I found a used hardtop for my JK but the catch was that it came without the hardware needed for attachment. I purchased these anchors. Simple, they slide into position under the back rails around the bed and back seat.

Putting these in place seriously took me no more than 3 minutes. Now they come with the bolts to lock the top into the anchor but I purchased larger bolts with grip tops for quick release. Just to make it easier on myself , not need a socket wrench if and when I decide to remove the hard top.

Honestly I removed my soft top by myself and had the hard top on and anchored in less than 20 minutes. You can leave these anchors in place after removal of the hard top and reattach the soft top with them remaining in place.

If the bolts are not put back in place the anchors may slide back and forth along the rails from vibration while driving but will not fall off from what I’ve experienced.

I purchased a used hardtop for my LJ and it only came with four bolts to fasten it down. I got tired of the rattle and extra flex in the top (especially on the door surround part) so I ordered these to tighten everything down and they worked perfectly.

These nuts are far easier to use since they simply hold themselves in place and I honestly don’t think I would have been able to secure the front bolt holes without them since the gap between the body and rollbar is so narrow up in the front.

High quality and I highly reccomend.

Easy to put in, strong, holds the top on. Does exactly what it’s supposed to. Much better than the OEM style.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis product was not made to the specifications of the hard top for my 2015 Wrangler 4 door. The rear panel fit perfect. The Center panel did not cover the area back in behind the speakers.

The 2 front panels were not big enough to cover the inside area of the t-tops. The product looks and works great if it was made with the correct dimensions.

IšverstiShow in original languageExcellent product, does the job very well. Installation was really easy. Heat inside the JEEP was way less after installation and insulation was really good. The only thing I would change about this product and is also the reason for my 4/5 rating is the installation method (Materials used).

It came with many pieces of Velcro stickers, now the issue with Velcro is that they make little noise when moving like static noise or something. I wish they used normal double sided 3M table or at least the plastic type Velcro used in more heavy duty application because those don’t make any noise with slight movement.

Finally, I would like to add that it also give a very nice interior look to the jeep.

IšverstiShow in original languageLiving in Florida is really hot and humid. We bought these roof liners and what a difference! They are fantastic! I was concerned thinking it was going to be too dark because I am used to the white roof but there is no major change.

Very happy we invested in this. They give you just enough Velcro strips, maybe they could have put a few more in the bag because I could have used them although so far no problems with the amount I got.

The Mopar headliner was pretty easy to install by myself (and I am not the best at installing things!). It has definitely made a difference in the amount of heat the comes into the vehicle from bright sunlight.

It also has slightly improved road noise levels. Personally I think this is because sound waves have a place to get absorbed instead of bouncing off the hard plastic roof. I don’t have any data to support this claim but just feels a little quieter to me.

I also like the look of having the black roof panels.

I just bought a 2020 Rubicon and couldn’t believe how noisy it was inside the car. Even my wife commented how much louder it was from our previous JK. Installing this headliner was a breeze and probably cut the interior sound down by a third.

It also upgrades the interior esthetically too. Highly recommend.

We purchased these for our Sahara Wrangler- They were easy to install-directions very good. We are in Arizona and they have made HUGH DIFFERENCE -Love them, would recommend to anyone living in a hot enviroment – also noticed that the radio sounds clearer as well.

I’ve owned my Jeep for four years. FOUR YEARS! How could I not have heard about sun shades before?! First, this patriotic theme is fantastic. Very well done and looks like a waving flag. Second, installation is straight-forward.

There are a few things that could be better (ie: the center velcro straps don’t line up well with the off-center hook, and the super tight fitting of the cords that go over the soundbar will test your finger strength), but overall it was a snap.

Watch the install video here on XT; it’s worth the 4 minutes. Lastly, IT WORKS! And isn’t that why we are buying it after all? I just drove around in 98 degree weather (with the a/c on too) and couldn’t believe how much more comfortable I was with this shade vs.

without. I only wish we were at the beginning of summer instead of the end of it so that I could enjoy it more!.

Decent sunshade, seems to be good quality. Main gripe is that it does interfere some with the freedom panel removal. I was hoping it would be easier to leave in place and be able to remove the freedom [panels than it is.

It is possible, just takes some work.

Fantastic and fun looking sunshade. Good quality. Fits perfectly with hard top in place. Super easy to install, done within 10mins. Makes an amazing difference driving with this, sun still shines through but shaded and cool.

The flag looks great also. Highly recommend.

A great fit and relative easy install. It is a heavy duty piece of steel, strong and well made. You will need a grinder or metal saw to remove the old vacuum mount. Cut it close to the frame and hit it with spray paint to prevent rust.

The new mount bolts up and out of the way rather easily. The most difficult part was getting to the things I dropped. Leave the skid plate OFF until you’re finished with bolting everything up and dropping screws/nuts/bolts.

You will want to get a couple extra bolts and nuts to temporarily hold the mount in place while other parts of the install proceed. If you use a Zeon or center feed winch, you will also need to cut a 1-3/4″ hole in the bumper.

A grinder is needed for bumper modifications. I purchased a Zenith Industries ZN103115 Carbide Tooth Hole Saw from Amazon and it worked perfectly.

I do like the top over all. however, its just a few things seem to to be of low quality. On a JKU the way it secures by the pillars is annoying and doesnt lay flat, this makes a wrinkle or crimpedareas the top center.

The hooks are plastic. I assumed they would be metal or a metal with plastic coverings. So the most rear clips are already stretched out and look like they will fail. Also the plastic hooks are sewn in, so its not going to be simple to replace when they fail.

The material is nice and the straps are a rip stop type nylon and seem well made. For the money its a decent bikini top that easy to put on and remove. I just dont think the fasteners are going to last.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I’m using this for my JKU and only needed a screen for the front seat. This thing works so well, I can enjoy being out in the sun without feeling like I’m trapped in an easy bake oven.

Very easy to install and I only have to un-Velcro the front two straps in order to put my soft top back on. I imagine it would be the same for the hard top as well, though I haven’t tried yet. The red is very bright, I wish it was subdued some, but oh well.

Only other thing to keep in mind is that you will lose some headroom. I don’t drive sitting straight up, but if you do, your head might hit the shade.

The top itself is nice and tight. The passenger side windows was a whole of story. The first one did not pull tight into the front of the surround. It made the upper soft door impossible to close unless you pushed it from the outside while pressing in on the window.

They sent me a second top to swap the windows with and it was looser than the first and the zipper was 1. 5″ too long. There seems to be no quality control here. I will be returning both tops and have ordered a Replay top from Pavement Ends by Bestop.

If you have a hard top only get ready to spend some $$$! Not only do you need the windshield header $49. 99. You will also need door surroundings $180. 00 to $225. 00 depends where you buy them. I called ,and asked a representative from Extreme terrain if in fact i needed door surroundings, and he said no.

When in fact You do need them. Thats how the bikini top tucks inside the tops of the doors, and draws up tight. Otherwise it fits really loose, and flaps in the wind! I’ll still use the top after i shell out another $200.

00 on hardware to use a $90. 00 top lol. Just wish they would have told me up front!.

It works how advertised, giving 4 stars for plastic connectors. The top is great for keeping the sun off leather seats and will keep you mostly dry if it rains. Water will get in by the doors but you don’t have to stress getting caught with your top down in a down pour.

I have a 2012 four door rubicon the middle strap didn’t fit like the instructions stated but I was able to wrap it around the roll bar however part of it is in the door jam. The tarp material seems like it’s good quality, the straps need to have metal connections.

Straps holding the back part can easily break if you tighten too much.

I have not taken it on the road yet but I am already disappointed. If you have passengers in your two door JK they will get wet in the rain and the seat will get soaked. The picture on the box shows a four-door and the top goes well beyond the back of the backseat to keep passengers dry.

Not so with a two door. The back edge of the cover stops over the heads of back passengers. Obviously the rain will flow across the top of the canvas and pour down on any passengers in the backseat. On the other hand I expect it will keep my dashboard dry.

Overall this is a pretty nice top. The quality of the overall construction is very nice. Where I think this needs improvement is in the details. The latches for the targa section should be better and I’m surprised that DV8 didn’t include black screws for the rear windshield.

On installing the rear windshield, I had issues with the screws trying to strip out and the nuts not wanting to tighten down. Some of the holes for screws did not line up exactly, requiring some wiggling to get things to settle in place right.

In setting the top in place, the top needs to be almost flexed into place so the bolts can line up with the mount holes on the tub correctly. With the targa section, it almost looks like the size is off by a few millimeters.

It doesn’t cover the gap from the top of the doors on both sides the way I would expect it to. Interior looks good and the carpet on the top matches the factory carpet pretty well. Overall I like the looks better than a factory top but I think DV8 should spend more time on the details.

Instructions were pretty vague as well.

I felt the price of $2,645 was a bit much but it is an American made product and once my hardtop arrived I saw that it was worth the money. Excellent fit, outperforms the Jeep standard hardtop in road noise, and super quality construction.

I would strongly recommend buying this hardtop over others.

No complaints. It took about an hour to install (I had it professionally done). No leaks in the rain nor car wash. Looks sleek and much quieter than a soft top!

Great mesh top, but hard to remove/re-install the Freedom Panels with this installed. I took the time to cut out small square holes (around 5″x5″) where the 3 L-shaped Freedom Panel latches are, and sewed webbing and hook-loop strips around the holes and around the edge of the cutouts.

This way, I can just pull the small flap down, reach up and open/close the latches, and replace them. I also leave only the center windshield bungee in place all the time, and I remove the 2 bungees that hook above the sun visors when I place the Freedom Panels back on (since they get in the way of the clamps).

Tip! Go to Harbor Freight and buy two bags of the short bungee cords with the balls on them. You will need two for each of the grommets in the back in order to get it around the back roll bar. The ones that come with it will cost you a eye or a finger and it’s just not worth the headache.

Otherwise, good strong material. Fits well enough. This is my second one. I bought one for my TJ, two door. Bungee cords fit that roll bar fine.

Not sure why the great ratings. Yes, its quality material. Yes, it functions as it should. However, it shouldnt be that difficult to install. I realize it needs to be tight, but the rear bungees are virtually impossible to install.

Good product, bad engineering. I would go a different route if I were you. Not worth the hassle at $50.

Nice look and good fit to the body of the jeep. but we had some issues with the rear window. It would not close (even before we installed it) because it doesn’t line up properly. We had to saw away at the molding with a knife.

This was pretty disappointing considering the cost. Only other concern is the rear seal that the door closes onto. The way it’s designed the right hand corner of the door causes it to bunch up and not seal correctly.

Seems fine for now but I fear the seal may wear out quickly from all the abuse. Craftsmanship isn’t terrible but could be better (more attention to detail needed). We are on the Oregon coast (plenty of rain) and so far no leaks-though she parks in a carport.

Nice look. Really easy to install. Happy overall and glad I didn’t pay the extra $800 for OEM.

Received the hardtop in good packaging but could notice some smears of tape on the glass windows. 2 little dings. But nothing that can’t be fixed where it’ll be unnoticable. Overall very happy of how it looks on my Jeep.

Way quieter ride than a soft top for sure. Won’t ever be using my soft top again after having a hardtop now. Installation was a breeze. Definitely need two people to install this. I’d recommend this hardtop to anyone who is looking for a hardtop.

Hard Top fits pretty good, sits a little high over the passenger door which is resulting in a small leak, but Jeeps are notorious for leaking above the door frames. Installation was very easy with the help of my wife and daughter to set in on the Jeep.

It is really a lot more top than I was expecting for an after market. I still plan on going back to the soft top in the spring weather. Just looking to save my Zippers from the winter salt and hold a little more heat in.

I bought this to replace a top on the Jeep when I bought it used. None of the zippers worked on the old top and it looked kinda cruddy. I really liked this one and bought it directly from BestTop. I paid for installation, that did not work out.

So I installed it myself with the help or a friend. The instructions aren’t perfect. But you can figure it out. When it was done I loved it. This is a hybrid top, It is not the top you want if you want to go full topless.

But the top looks so good and works so well. I really think it looks and performs great. It is not cheap either.

So with one person, this would have been damn near impossible to do properly. But with me and one other person, completed it at a steady pace. The advice I have is install this in high temperatures. It only got to 65 degrees and that was too low to be able to stretch the fabric the way it needed to.

after sitting in the sun around 90 degrees for a couple hours, it still took some man power to stretch the fabric enough to work properly. But it’s definitely a nice snug fit once you get it. No extra holes needed to be drilled, the brackets and screws all sat together really well, just be sure not to tighten them down until you’ve gone through all the steps.

All the windows are nice, I like that the side windows have screens and even a little lock on them. The latches, and materials are top quality, Feel very heavy and sturdy. All in all, it wasn’t as painful of a process getting it on as I thought it would be.

I even like the racer back look a lot compared to the square. It give it more room inside the cabin, which is appreciated with a two door. If you’re thinking about it, it is definitely worth giving it a try.

Mixed feelings about this purchase given the higher price point. Overall top looks great and functions well. Black cloth is really premium looking. Sunrider opens much easier than OEM soft top. Back lift gate is game changer.

Just had a huge downpour and almost no leaks, which I know some have complained about. When driving, compared to OEM soft top, it is louder in front, but quieter toward the back. Side windows sag a bit, so not the cleanest look there.

Side window quality also not the best – looks hand made, shakes a bit when driving, and cheaper locks that can easily be popped open from outside. “Buy It Installed” was not the pro-install I was expecting.

Just a couple guys in a pickup. They had never installed this type top before and took nearly 6 hours to figure it out. But in the end they were nice and got it installed. Shipping was fast, though it got a bit banged up.

Had some damaged pieces which leads to my biggest problem – which is Bestop customer service – which I’ve always heard was amazing. They don’t respond to emails, other than to say to call instead. When you call, they don’t pickup, but say to leave a voicemail.

And they don’t respond to voicemails. I’ve had success eventually getting through on the chat. They were nice and said they would send replacement parts right away. But the replacement orders never get placed.

This has happened twice. Currently waiting in the queue for my 3rd chat person as I write this review. I understand longer wait times because of covid, but at least respond at some point and follow through.
