20 Best Hard Water Dishwasher Detergent (2023 Updated)

Feel this is great value for money, was using a another brand before Finish and the complete wash cycle did not produce great results. I did think at first this may be the dishwasher I had so gave the Finish tablets a go and since then have not used another brand as the results are consistently great.

The best dishwasher tablet I’ve ever used. Cleans amazingly, whereas with some finish products I had a slight powdery residue left of some plastic items, this is not an issue with this tablet. I no longer need to use the finish clip on scent as this keeps my dishwasher smelling lovely.

Apparently you don’t need rinse aid with these either but living in UK with hard water I still use this as a precaution. Really good all in one product. Only tip is ensure these are stored in a room that does not get too hot as due to how dishwasher tablets from all brands are packaged together they can become stuck together causing a lot to be wasted this was due to me placing under sink area and when dishwasher was on this area did get warmer than normal so they have sinced been moved and have not had an issue since.

Having had a dishwasher for many years I only use tablets now days. As these were on offer I got a big bag but I find they do not clean properly. Pans are left with rings in them and cups are sometimes still dirty.

Plus if I’ve cooked a strong smelling dish like lamb casserole, the dishwasher still smells afterwards. I’ve had to rewash items in my dishwasher on more than one occasion, which is the opposite of the eco friendly credentials these claim to have.

Gone back to previous tablets, as they work first time. Not sure what I’m going to do with the remainder of these as I still have 60 tablets left. Finally, if you read a review of these has been “collected as part of a promotion” they are absolutely glowing and gushing about this product.

Read the reviews where people have purchased these as the real reviews seem to offer a different experiance from the promoted ones.

Clean dishes are really important in everyone’s home. I did try many different brands that left me quite disappointed as not all the dishes went absolutely clean and shiny. This is my first time trying Finish Quantum all in 1.

So I hoped that this time I won’t need to be dissatisfied with cleaning results. I did try these capsules on different temperature setting of my dishwasher and I was surprised that everything was super clean.

Especially the glasses were shining. Besides super cleaning effect I could feel light lemon scent which empowers with clean feeling. These capsules really works perfectly on different temperature setting from the highest to lowest and leaves all the dishes super clean! Highly recommended!.

I recently stumbled upon an article about hard water mineral deposit stains on dishes. I was afraid I would have to replace my dishwasher because my dishes were not coming out clean. We have been in our house for 2 years now and it has been frustrating feeling like my dishes weren’t clean.

We have tried many different detergents over those two years trying to remedy the problem. We recently bought a water softener also that is going to be installed within the week – thinking this is what we needed to help this dishwasher situation.

In the article it mentioned the product “Lemi Shine Booster” so naturally I was curious and googled it to see where I could get my hands on this (cause at this point I really had nothing left to loose).

I found some at my local Canadian Tire and bought the “dishwasher Cleaner” and “dishwasher detergent booster” in hopes that this might help a little. Well, after I used two packets to clean the dishwasher I used the booster along with another common brand of dishwasher detergent and set it to clean.

When I opened the dishwasher to my newly cleaned dishes, to say I was BLOWN AWAY is an understatement. You can see in the images below which glasses were treated with the booster (honestly these pictures don’t do the dishes justice).

My dishes not only looked clean but they FELT clean too! It’s so nice not eating off of mineral/left over detergent stained dishes. Now when my husband and I put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher we are constantly second guessing ourselves if they are in fact dirty because they are still sparkling! I am throughly IMPRESSED with these two products and will be a lifelong customer.

Our water is very hard, leaving calcium, soap scum, and hard water residue on bathtub and sink surfaces. Our old dishwasher’s motor failed after 19 years, and everything was found to be full of hard water deposits.

I sought this out preventatively for our new dishwasher. We use it each load, filling the pre-wash section halfway, and using our regular powder detergent or puck as usual. I believe this is made from citric acid, but whatever it is, it’s fantastic for leaving dishes, cutlery and glasses very clean, as well as the dishwasher itself.

It has a delicious, fresh lemony scent, but leaves no residual scent or taste on dishes. Using a teaspoonful, the container lasts a long time. We usually buy 2-3 at a time so we’re never running low.

We have very hard water but cannot install a softener because it’s an apartment. We recently had a new dishwasher installed so wanted to take care of it well. Since we had very bad build-up in the old dishwasher, I decided to give this detergent booster a try.

It surprised me because it really works! We only have one dispenser, so I just add a teaspoon of this product to the detergent in the dispenser. I do also use jet dry for hard water as a rinse aid. With these additions, our new dishwasher has been kept extremely clean without any build up and dishes, glasses, and plastic containers come out so clean and spotless.

One bottle goes a long way (more than 2 months with twice a day use). I’ll definitely keep using this product.

I thought I would try and save some money and try these as they have good reviews. Big mistake for me! They do good with actual glassware, and OK on most ceramic dishes. But they are terrible with anything plastic! They leave a funky white film all over anything plastic.

They also just don’t clean as well as the Cascade, and they leave that wierd film all over the inside of my dishwasher, being stainless steel inside as opposed to white plastic things like that show up.

I ended up with a lot of build up on everything inside that my usual detergent never leaves as it cleans the dishwasher while cleaning the dishes. I ended up having to do a couple of empty runs adding cleaning vinegar to the water when it filled to cycle through and clean everything out again.

I will just stick to buying the Finish liquid separate and sticking to my usual Cascade.

I opted for this product in an attempt to be more eco-friendly. But the tablet has left irregular and extremely unsightly white stains on the outside of my circulon saucepan: stains which can’t be removed by washing in the sink.

The saucepan has been washed scores of times in the dishwasher with other tablets, and with no ill effects. Reading the small print closely it says not to be used on aluminium. Extremely disappointed.

Think the warning should be in large letters. No point in being eco if it causes old but good saucepans to be thrown away.

We started using Ecover Automatic Dishwasher Tablets as an alternative to plastic bottle detergents. I was worried that the tablet would leave the classic white residue but it does not at all. I typically stay away from scented products but the scent is very subtle and doesn’t actually make our dishes etc smell like lemon.

The packaging says you can recycle the individual plastic wrapper but I don’t see how any facilities are doing that since it’s so small. I would love to see this product eventually drop the wrappers all together or use compostable wrappers.

I have tried using these tablets but I find it’s kind of hit or miss which results in me having to rewash dishes and glasses that have bits left on them or have not washed well. I will keep looking for an eco-friendly dishwasher detergent.

*It should be noted that each tablet is wrapped in plastic that has to be removed prior to using. I’m not sure what product someone else was using when they commented on saying that the wrapper and tablet can just be popped into the dishwasher without removal, but these tablets will not work unless you remove the plastic wrap.

Another reason to perhaps find another detergent that doesn’t use additional plastic.

I’ve been using this stuff for years and also used the powdered detergent of the same brand. I love everything the company stands for but this stuff is just terrible. During the pandemic while doing more and more dishes I found that I was constantly pre-washing everything that went into the dishwasher and it still wasn’t coming out clean.

I’ve done several different cleaning methods on my dishwasher and finally decided to try the cascade natural version of detergent and everything is so clean without any pre-washing. Everything even feels smooth and clean.

I am embarrassed that it took me so long to make the switch. Yes, this company stands for and is doing great things with their products but if I am wasting more water and buying all these cleaning agents for my dishwasher it negates the purpose.

It wasn’t me, it wasn’t my dishwasher, it was the bad detergent.

I have used Seventh Generation products for decades and this dishwasher detergent is EXCELLENT. Yes, I occasionally had white residue left on the dishes but after a few tests, I determined that it was because I used just a little too much detergent for the load of dishes I washed.

Also, I have used this in older dishwashers, so if this is used in one of the newer, high efficiency models, maybe try using a little less each time to find the right amount for your machine that does not leave a residue.

This product has cleaned my dishes consistently over many years in a variety of older dishwashers, so I highly recommend.

Bought this item, actually few bottles to stock up, wanting to use something more natural. I would not recommend this particular brand. It is horrible with leaving white powdery residue on the dishes.

I have to put the dishes through an extra rinse cycle every single time. even then, sometimes doesn’t come off. Otherwise, the dishes seem to be clean. Not our dishwasher because we have new house build.

Doesn’t happen with the other brand that I was using before.

Normally I don’t really put much thought into the scent of dishwasher pods. As long as they work well and aren’t harmful to the environment, I’m good. I first bought these GrabGreen pods on a whim last year, and I’ve been buying them ever since.

The thyme with fig leaf scent is probably one of the nicest I’ve ever smelled. After the dishwasher has done its thing, I leave the door ajar and let the pleasant aroma fill my kitchen. As strange as it sounds, it reminds me of one of my favorite comfort foods: fiocchi with cheese and pear.

A while ago , a friend gave me the Dawn pot soaker soap ,for a pot that a neighbor borrowed but it was given back with burnt on food. Which I cried , I tried almost all the things people & even the manufactor told me to do , but nothing worked.

So a friend gave me her Dawn pot soaker which I did not want to use due to chemicals but to save the pot I used , which it did get a lot of gunk off the pot but still left some gunk so I placed a wad of paper towels in the pot & put it on top of baker’s rack , kind of like out of sight out of mind.

Then I seen these & thought one last hope for the pot instead of collecting dust and a reminder not to loan out things I love. I used two pods the first night & wow the two took off more gunk then the whole bottle of Dawn , so I the next night I tried two more , and that did it & I even made a big pot of beans in it which husband was just waiting to taste soap since I used so much but nope beans were awesome , these work , will keep on hand.

My daughter made angel food cake in a glass 9×9 pan and accidentally burnt it. She got as much out as she could and then soaked in in the sink for 2 days. When I went to do dishes last night there was no amount of scrubbing to get the burnt mess out.

I remember several months ago I bought these pods so I gave them a try. I put it in the pan, added hot water and swished it around with a fork to dissolve it. I waited less than 10 minutes and it all came right out with the exception of one tiny spot that came clean with a little scrubbing.

Absolutely amazing product and it smells delicious too.

These are the best dishwasher tablets I’ve used to be honest – I’ve been buying own brand tablets for a while however found that my cutlery and glassware needed polishing/buffing after. The Finish Quantum tablets leave everything looking really clean, streak free and leaves no residue on anything.

Leaves no film on my plates, glasses or cutlery. We live in a hard water area and find that these work incredibly well – they don’t leave any gunk or build up in the dosing chamber like other brands I’ve used.

I can definitely see a difference in the cleaning power with these – and they give great results every time. They work really well in a quick wash cycle. I would definitely consider purchasing these in the future and would highly recommend them.

Our dishwasher (d/w) holds a large amount of (Cascade) liquid detergent and automatically dispenses the right quantity per washing load. Downside is that the liquid has left lots of “white residue” that I haven’t been able to remove.

I recently tried another brand’s products to specifically “clean” the d/w. Nothing happened. So since I hadn’t refilled my liquid dispenser, I decided to try Cascade Platinum/Lemon pods while I figured out more d/w cleaning options.

Since most d/w cleaning aids instruct using them w/o detergent. Well, after only one full wash cycle, not only were my dishes cleaned but the white residue from the liquid is also gone! Needless to say I’ll be stocking up on Cascade Platinum/Lemon pods to continue using this amazing product! Since I was trying the product, we only bought a 14-pod pouch.

It would be nice for you to address better large packaging instead of the non-recycleable containers others have complained about.

The product is fine. It’s the terrible manner in which you have to now check out using the selfserve cashier machine. I was supposed to receive $10 in extra bucks if I purchased $30 of dishwashing or laundry products.

So I did just that but the selfserve cashier machine cheated me out of my $10 coupon and there was no one available to help me. The same day I was supposed to get another $3 off a product I bought and the machine screwed that up too.

I lost $13 on this visit. I will never shop front of store in this CVS again. I will still use the pharmacy. I will shop in the other CVS store across town if I need front of store items because they have a cashier working there most days I enter the store.

I started using your Cascade Platinum pods about two months ago and was very pleased with the product. However, the last four times I used the pods, they didn’t dissolve and all of my dishes were dirty.

I unloaded all of the dishes and washed them by hand. Tonight I opened a new package of Cascade Platinum, but the same thing happened. I’ve read more than a few complaints about consumers having the same problem.

I never had this problem using a dishwasher liquid, and I think it’s time for me to go back to a liquid product What is Proctor and Gamble doing for its many dissatisfied consumers? Before closing, (1) I always run the hot water in my kitchen sink before starting the dishwasher, (2) my water is definitely hot enough, and (3) I always make sure that my dispenser is dry before loading a pod.

I’ve been buying this for several years and it is the best of the natural dishwashing liquids I’ve found. It actually cuts the grease well. It has a different formula, I believe, from the regular dishwashing liquid made by 7th Generation.

I don’t know why this is not promoted better, as I sometime have great difficulty locating this particular product. I won’t bother with the regular version, with all the different scent options–they don’t do the job.

Unfortunately, I’m on a quest to find a new favorite, since I haven’t been able to find it in a few months.

While I love the idea of healthier, more natural products, there’s nothing to love if it just doesn’t work. When I used this product, my dishes just didn’t come out that clean. Nobody wants to pay for, or even just use, something that doesn’t work well.

I ended up washing half of my dishes by hand, which was an annoying and frustrating waste of time and money. Love the idea, but I’m sorry, it just didn’t work well for me. I switched back to a get-it-done brand.

I am a new homeowner and a member of Seventh Generation’s Generation Good Advocates community. I tested the difference between how well the detergent packs (or “pouches” as I call them) cleaned versus the powder Seventh Generation product.

I’ve used both in the past but I had the opportunity to receive the pouches product for free as a member. The first difference I noticed was the plastic pouch. I have been attempting to rid my household of plastic so this would deter me at the grocery store.

I have read as well that the pouches themselves contain micro plastic that enter our waterways so this would also encourage me to switch sides. While using both products I did not notice any discernible difference in cleaning power.

I would gravitate more so to the powder form of detergent from a recycling standpoint HOWEVER I do not believe that I can recycle the box as I believe it is covered in a very thin layer of plastic as well.

The pouches are slightly more convenient (as I do not have to carefully pour in grains of detergent). The boxes of powder really last, it seems like we do a zillion loads before we have to buy more. I don’t have extensive experience with other cleaning detergents because I am very content with the final product of my dishes.

The only suggestion I would make is to spruce up the recycling aspect of the product and stay away from that nasty plastic. I would stick with the powder form as I believe it cleans just as well as the pouches, it is not in a plastic pouch that dissolves into my water as it cleans my dishes, one box lasts a looonnnggg time, and I can add as little or as much detergent as I want with each load.

I have been using seventh generation dishwasher soap for years and love it. I prefer the powder over liquids or individually wrapped pods because I use this all over my house. It is strong enough to cut through grease and grime yet gentle enough it doesn’t damage anything In the kitchen of course in the dishwasher, and I fill the sink with half-one cup of powder, once dissolved using hot water I put my burner racks from the stove or BBQ ,exhaust fan filters, i use it to clean stained thermos, I use it all over the kitchen.

A little goes a long way. Be sure to rinse well In the laundry a couple of TBS in the washer before you add laundry for easy loads. OR I dissolve it in hot water and soak the kitchen towels and dishrag to prevent or help cut thru grease and odors, same with bath towels, any rugs, Sports and gym gear.

We had an antique tub refinished and we can’t use anything abrasive, so I dissolve up 1/2 C in warm water and know this is gentle enough to not damage but cuts thru the soap and hard water film. I apply it with a soft rag in small areas and after a few minutes use the same rag to wipe, rinse well and Next section.

Outdoor furniture, walls, the list goes on. I can’t live without this. Especially where I cannot use the walnut sponges from grove I highly recommend.

I have used the Seventh Generation Dish Pacs for 18 months now. My dishwasher always leaves loose powder in the detergent cup so it is necessary for me to use pacs to prevent this. I have been very happy with the cleanliness of my dishes and there is never a residue left behind.

The original version of these dish pacs were packaged in a cardboard box. I was disappointed to see that the packaging had been changed to plastic and I contacted Seventh Generation to express my disappointment.

To my surprise they responded with the following: We appreciate your concern for the impacts of the products you purchase. I do want to be clear that the pouch we are using can be recycled. It can be recycled at most grocery stores, at the front of the store many places have recycling for the plastic bags and the pouch can be added to this.

Another important note, the cardboard we did use for the pacs was not recyclable. There was a small amount of clay in the cardboard to help prevent any moisture from entering and this prevented it from being recycled.

It could break down, if exposed to the right elements but most likely this would not happen if tossed in the trash. The new pouch is not ideal but the overall impact is actually less than that of the cardboard we were using.

We do feel that plastic needs to used only when necessary and that it should certainly be recyclable.

I bought these because I was tired of my cascade dish detergent (liquid) seemingly going so quickly and barely getting the job done. they seem to be cleaning my dishes just fine and I love that I know exactly how many loads I have left to be able to clean.

In my house things like that matter- with a small baby often things forget to be bought and then i just run out! I also really like that these are individually sealed. I had bought a bag of individual little detergent balls and after loading the dishwasher my hands would be ever so slightly wet when i went to grab one.

the moisture, even minimal started making the rest of them in the bag deteriorate, as they break down when touching water. these being individually wrapped means that I dont ruin them with damp hands when i go to grab them! also.

i dont have any spots on my glasses and they are a good price. overall happy and would recommend and or buy again.

It’s a must. I have hard water and old appliances. It’s the small things that keep them working great. I add this and a dishwasher cleaning agent to keep my dishwasher running like new. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way! Good price and fast shipping too.

We have VERY hard water in my hometown. I discovered this fabulous product several years ago and have been amazed at how well it deals with it. A few weeks ago, I could not find it at Walmart, Kroger, or any other store.

I was stunned! I tried the newest product, Finish Quantum, and this time I was stunned at how poorly it did anything! It even caused the copper on the bottom of my pots to turn spotty brown!! Ugh!! I was sooo hoping that the Boost Powder was still available somewhere.

I have now gone back to using it and the box of powdered detergent. GREATLY SATISFIED!!!.

I have super hard water so my dishes were always covered in water spots. I decided to give this a try. I love it. It got rid of the spots so I decided to try it on the mineral deposits on my granite counter where the faucets are located.

It worked it’s magic there too.

I have never had such clean, sparkling dishes without having to rinse before I put in the dishwasher. Absolutely love it to clean sink, refrigerator, everything. Great product.

We moved into a 15 year old home and found the stainless steel dishwasher to be coated in hard water. We used this with almost every wash and it looks nearly new. We can’t believe how well it works! I also love that it doesnt have any chemicals.

These are just awful. I have a brand new fancy Whirlpool dishwasher and some of these Platinum ActionPac pods came with it. I already had some Cascade Total Clean pods (the green plastic container) on hand, so over the next week I thought this would be an interesting test of detergents.

I alternated a total of four nearly identical loads, e. g. a Platinum Action Pac pod for 1 load, then Total Clean pod for the next load and so on. All dishes were very well-scraped and well-rinsed before loading, and dishwasher cycles were set to “heavy” four-hour cleaning cycles with “sani rinse” afterward, even though the dishwasher was never very heavily loaded and the dishes were not very dirty to begin with.

You’d think everything would come out great right? Nope. Both loads with the Platinum pods came out disgusting. It didn’t clean protein or starches at all (light residue on wet pet food dishes and cans, and light residue from rice on bowls and utensils) – even though, remember, everything was well-scraped and well-rinsed first.

Almost everything in the Platinum ActionPac loads had to be rewashed by hand afterwards. Both loads with the cheaper Total Clean pods came out sparkling squeaky clean, every single dish, even the ones that had pet food and sticky rice residue.

So I’ll stick with the cheaper Total Clean pods and avoid this. As another reviewer said, the “Platinum Action” stuff is all hype and marketing. Just because it’s more expensive doesn’t mean it’s better.

Save your money and stick with the cheaper stuff that actually works.

Be cautious with this. It contains Dawn Dishwashing detergent. My dishwasher started leaking out the front when I changed to this product. Thinking that the dishwasher needed maintenance since it is 19 years old, we changed the door seal, baffles and cleaned the float.

Then I tested it with just water, no leaking. Ran it with a Finish pod I had left over before I bought this, no leaking. Then I tried this product again and water came out the door, but only after the pod had been released during the cycle and, when I opened the dishwasher to see if I could pinpoint the leak, mounds of suds came flowing onto the floor.

Until I looked at the product description closely I did not realize that it had Dawn dish liquid in one of the pouches. I finally realized the dishwasher leaked only because of the amount of suds that were being produced during the cycle.

I also ran another water only cycle and found residual suds from the Cascade wash in the water which means that the Cascade was not rinsing completely at the end of the cycle, leaving detergent in the dishwasher and consequently, on the previously run dishes.

I have discarded this product and gone back to Finish products which produce minimal suds which is what automatic dishwashers were designed for. You may not have a similar experience, all dishwashers are different, but in this case I found that it was not my dishwasher, but the action and additives of this type of pod.

I had my doubts when I bought this product. This isn’t the first dishwasher detergent that boasts no pre wash needed. I purposely put dishes in my dishwasher that had food residue, dried and caked on food, along with greasy pans to see how well these cleaned my filthy dishes.

I was absolutely blown away by how clean my dishes were after using a single Cascade Platinum Action Pac. My dishes come out looking brand new. There was no film or soap residue left behind. There were no traces of water spots on my glasses or silverware.

Nothing was left behind but sparkling clean dishes. I have never seen any dishwasher detergent perform even half as well as these. I will never buy any other brand of dishwasher detergent. These are well worth spending the extra money.

You definitely get what you pay for with these. They are a premium product. I highly recommend buying these. They make doing dishes so easy. No more pre wash. No more scrubbing and scraping food off your dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.

No more soaking dishes in the sink to get them clean. Just rinse of the large food pieces and load them into the dishwasher.

I have a portable tabletop dishwasher due to living in a mobile home having space issues. This stuff has been an absolute LIFESAVER! I’ve tried almost every kind, brand,etc of dishwasher detergent, and y’all, this one actually does the job.

The other one pictured is the Cascade Complete with Dawn, but you can clearly see the difference in texture between that and the Complete Dawn + Oxi, it has more of a gritty texture to clean the dishes in ONE go, no presoak needed! This stuff has cleaned everything from burnt on grease, pie filling etc, to everyday dishes and cutlery.

It ALWAYS cleans on the first go. It may be a tad more expensive, but I use WAY less of this to do the same job as the other without Oxi. Dishwasher smells clean but not fragrant, I absolutely adore this stuff.

It is a staple item/necessity in my household!.

I started buying Cascade at Sam’s and it washes so much better than the off brands I had been getting at the grocery store. Our dishes are definitely cleaner, and this is a good value purchase. It also smells nice while the dishwasher is running.

I say that because I have bought dishwasher detergent in the past that smelled weird, ok very bad, while the dishwasher was running! I will always buy this over the pods, more for the money. It is heavy though, so if you are someone with issues with your hands, the pods may be better for you.

But all around, I think Cascade makes great dishwasher products.

I used to use a version of liquid Cascade with Oxi that I actually used to clean my sink. It was like a lighter version of Soft Scrub. I also make ice tea by the gallon and it always cleaned my pitcher, ice tea glasses and reusable straws where I’d pour the cascade into the straw as it sat in the silverware holder in the dishwasher.

Then, that version was no longer made. I found a couple jugs online and I hoarded them just for ice tea stains. I was VERY happy to find this version of Cascade! Unfortunately, it’s not available at my grocery store but I found it at Sam’s! It works just like the old version so I’m very happy with this product! I think I’ll hoard a couple bottles just in case they stop making it again!.

I have tried several more economical dishwashers and have no point of comparison the results of said dishwashers with the results of finish quantum. It is true that it is more expensive, it is true that with what you save you can buy a new dishwasher almost almost, but I have glasses that are completely white have used the detergent bad and clear, if the new dishwasher added glassware does not come out So to account saving.

It’s simple, you take the capsule, put it in the corresponding compartment and turn on the dishwasher, I have not noticed that it has any characteristic smell when I take things out of the dishwasher.

It is an all in one, that is, we do not need to add salt to the dishwasher or rinse aid, everything comes with the same capsule that is wrapped in a kind of plastic that dissolves with water. I do not usually use sponge or brush before putting things in the dishwasher, I simply throw the remains in the trash and the dish goes to the dishwasher and everything, absolutely everything comes out clean and without debris.

This is the most incredible, powerful cleaning booster for your dishwasher. A service technician recommended it a couple years back when my brand new dishwasher was leaving the dishes filmy and sometimes not completely clean.
