20 Best Hard Drive For Tivo (2023 Updated)

Well after putting my order in I received my hard drive within just 2 to 3 days. Luckily for me I live in Southern California and it only had to come about a half an hour away. But on that note once I received it popped it into my all-in-one HP computer put the new operating system in now it works flawlessly.

It’s been a couple of weeks now and I’ve had no issues. I love this computer it was only a couple years old so was worth keeping. So if you’re thinking about purchasing a hard drive go ahead you should have no problems.

Also the hard drive when it arrived came packaged very well to the point where I could see it wasn’t going to be damaged in shipping. Hopefully this review helps somebody out there.

WD Blue 2TB (WD20EZBX) is a fast drive. 7200RPM, 256MB cache, you can easily get 200+ MBps read speeds. Fast enough to be a game drive (not as fast as an ssd but your only waiting 15 to 20 seconds at most for a game to load) It is a SMR drive however, so writing does suffer a bit there.

Although if your focus on read applications (like gaming), this is a totally usable drive. As i told a family member this is a undercover WD Black HDD.

I bought the Blue 4TB HDD here (Serial Number: WX52D320YAK1). It arrived DEAD. I can’t start it. To replace it I’d have to pay a half price of it. Alexander S and other support team members doesn’t listen to me.

I’m very very unpleased with WD service. Terrible service! I’ll say to all my friends that WD produce crap and doesn’t want to replace it! I SUGGEST YOU TO THINK TWICE TO BUY WD HDD!.

Hard part about reviewing hard drives is that you can’t speak to how long they’ll last. I purchased two for a Synology NAS enclosure. They installed and set up easily, and are performing to spec. The only issue has been noise from the heads.

Louder “clunking” than I normally get from drives these days. While it’s not “loud loud”, it could be clearly heard across the room. I ended up moving my NAS setup to another room, because it was distracting during quiet scenes while watching media.

For their purpose, they are (so far) good drives, and I would buy again for this purpose. I couldn’t recommend them in a machine at your desk, or an exposed media server near your TV. (and I cannot answer if they are both loud or just one due to the RAID setup).

These drives are extremely noisy with what can best be described as a loud “fan noise” even when idle. They also use a lot of power and run hot even idle. The 10TB and 8TB current WD Red Plus drives are NOT at all the same as the 6TB and smaller or 12TB and larger drives.

The 10TB and 8TB versions are air filled, rather than helium filled, drives from HGST rather than typical WD drives. That honestly makes no sense why WD would be so inconsistent to offer completely different drives, with completely different specs, within the same product line.

The 6TB drive is a nice quiet WD drive as are the 12TB and larger models. But the 8TB and 10TB versions are loud, power hungry, and run hot with zero benefits for all the noise, wasted power, and heat.

Who thought this was a good idea?.

I only have had this HDD for a day, but after transferring 2 TB of games to it, it still runs great! Surprisingly, the drive is quiet. So quiet, I thought it was broken at first, but no it’s just that high quality! Granted the drive is new, I 100% expected at least clicking noises as this drive is CHONKY (still fits in normal HDD slots) but it only seemed to make noise a couple of times during huge file rate transfers.

Best part is the warranty is 3 years +1 month! This might be because I bought through NewEgg directly, and they only sell retail versions instead of the warrantlyess OEM versions others tend to sell.

Only downside is it runs about 3-4 C higher than my other drives, but that’s to be expected. TL;DR: Got a quiet 12 TB HDD with a 3 year + 1 month warranty! Would purchase again!.

So first, this drive is geared toward portability and not top-end performance as most would want these days. When I say portability that goes toward travel not only in the states but around the world.

It comes with 6 power adapter-style plugs so you can change out depending on where you are in the world. Not only that but it also serves as a quick USB hub so you can use different peripherals through the USB 3.

0 connection the drive uses on your system. It does have flashy RGB LEDs and you can change the colors or patterns on through the software downloaded to manage the drive. The software allows you to backup, restore, or mirror your data files.

If you have Razer Chroma then you can also link up your RGBs with that as well using the toolkit software. I did do a performance test to see what the real world specs were compared to seeing what was online and here are the ones I ran: IOPS 4K Read Min: 1.

My opinion but if you are a traveling gamer/media watcher/need storage on the go while going around the world or even in your own country then this is a great external hard drive for you.

Easy to setup and easy to pack away.

Love this thing! I’ve never owned anything above a 1 terabyte external in the past, needless to say I was amazed and blown away realizing this device is 8 terabytes! First off this external HD is easy to use like most other external HD’s, simple as plugging it in via USB 3.

2. Due to its awesomely large storage capacity, it has a nice weight to it which is good so it doesn’t feel like it’s going to slide off or fall over. My absolute favorite feature about this product aside from the large storage space is the lights! This drive is definitely marketed towards gamers which is very much appreciated.

The RGB LED lightning looks incredible, really love that it’s Razer Chroma RGB compatible. I use this with my PS5 and my entertainment center has never looked so cool. Fantastic product, would recommend to anyone, especially gamers.

This Seagate external hard drive is amazing! I grabbed the 8TB and it’s a beast! The read and write speeds are as advertised at 250mbs. This external hard drive can read and while, while being used and playing games.

This is my current steam library all on this external drive. I can play games on this device even when downloading. It handles all my tasks! it’s also used for my emulators with this incredible reads and write.

I my previous device WD black external would freeze all the time, when moving on to the HDD or playing a game while downloading causing the game to crash. If you are a gamer and plan to play games & download at the same time or use this machine as emulation station, this external HDD is for you! I actually hope they come with 18tb or 20tb model cause I would buy again!.

I replaced two, 6TB UltraStar drives with two, 18TB Gold Enterprise drives in my RAID chassis, which I use as a Time Machine backup for my Mac computer. I’ve had the drives for a couple of weeks now and everything has gone swimmingly.

The only complaint I have is the noise level of the drives. Since the Gold Enterprise drive specifications are similar to that of the UltraStar drive, I expected the same level of noise. What I found, however, is the Gold Enterprise drives are noisier.

You can definitely hear the read/write heads shuttling around in the drive. There is definitely room to improve the drive design in this regard. Aside from the noise, I am satisfied with the drive performance and am hoping I get the same level of reliability with the Gold Enterprise drives that I had with the UltraStar drives.

In terms of ordering experience, I was very happy with the online shopping process through the Western Digital website. I chose to order directly from Western Digital to ensure the drives were covered by their 5 year warranty.

The drives came within a few days of purchase packaged in a box that provided exceptional protection.

I have 3 Synology NAS units. The 1513+, the 414 and the 1621+. Over the years I started out with WD Green drives, but had failures and they were slow. Then I moved to WD Reds, which were faster, but also had some failures.

Finally I decided to replace them all with WD Gold/Ultrastar in 2016. I have not had a single failure since. NOT ONE! They make a little noise, but if it bothers you then you must be pretty picky. I have a 6 drive NAS in my movie room where we watch movies and it is about 30 feet behind our couch.

I haven’t ever found it to be distracting. No louder than the full height drives in Dell computers in the 90s.

I favor longevity and reliability especially if I put a hard drive in a NAS or server. This drive delivers. If I were building a gaming machine then I likely would use an M 2 drive. Seller was excellent.

Ordered Sunday morning and got it on Wednesday at 2 pm. I entered the serial numbers into the WD website and confirmed my 5 year warranty. I’m picky who I get hard drives from because if you’re not careful you will get an OEM drive with very little if any manufacturer’s warranty.

This is the smallest and fastest hart drive I ever had. Pretty cool that technology is allowing us to store a large amount of data something that would fit almost in my wallet. Samsung is a brand that I trust because I know they are at the forefront of technology.

I have been using Samsung memory types and different styles for quite some time either it be an SD card, flash drive, microSD card and other small data forms however this is my first time using a large dataform with Samsung.

I usually hate having an external hard drive because they’re usually big and it adds weight to my computer briefcase However this little guy is just perfect. With it being rugged I don’t feel as worried to keep it on me.

The IP 65 Rating makes it water resistant and dust proof which is great for anybody typically with a hard drive as it will help against things like rain, spills, We’re a normal amount of dust that you would come into contact with like from a work bag purse office drawer or car etc.

It does also say has heat resistant material but I am wondering if this is more because it’s such a small compact size and it helps protect its own he would you will produce when downloading or uploading from the device.

The USB 3. 2 technology is really nice when supported by the opposite device such as a laptop or pc. This will allow for high data read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s. If your main device does not support USB 3.

2 It will not reach the speeds most likely however will reach the max be to which your device and USBs allow. So even if you do not have a current device that supports a USB 3. 2, this will be preventative for the future as you are will already be equipped with a higher speed USB storage device or if you plug it in to somewhere else let’s say a friends computer.

Yes this will work on a gaming console. This was tested on my PlayStation 4 which was able to upload A game without any flaws. If anything the floor was with the PS4 as it has a lower generation of USB ports.

I’m sure the new Xbox and PS five probably have newer generations of USB ports which will be able to achieve higher rate read and write speeds however it is sufficient for the ps4.

I thought the Seagate STHN2000400 2TB Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive is exactly what I needed for my files but, I should have gotten something else. First, you have to register the product through the webpage that opens so you can get all the extras, including 4 months free of Photoshop, but its impossible to do.

I kept getting a registration error because the product serial number was not recognized, but it registered just fine on the product site. So I lost all the extras. I have a program on my Mac and when I try to save a document to the Seagate STHN2000400 2TB Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive, my software alerts me that this drive does not store anything permanently and to choose a different drive so I do not lose my work.

Transfer is so slow. The first file I transferred was a photo file with 300 photos and it took a good 15-20 minutes to transfer. Why? This drive is supposed to be fast. I do not like the mirror thing that it added to my Mac.

Every single file that I transferred and removed for my Mac was back in place when I turned my Mac on the next day. I dont know if its user error or the drive app, but I am real tempted to delete everything and return this Seagate STHN2000400 2TB Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive.

So far I have backed up my laptop,and everything went easily enough. I did this 2 wks ago and just accessed the external this morning to see my backup. Again so far everything is Ok. This is an extremely light device compared to my older Lacie ext hd.

I will update this review or create a new one as time goes on, I hope it still works fine. My old Lacie is old and still works,but it’s capacity is a lot smaller than this new Seagate. I am now looking for a deal on a desktop external hard drive,but only if it is a real deal,preferably a larger capacity than this portable Seagate 2tb.

I think along the lines of something that will last for 10 years at least. So in conclusion I think this purchase is so far a good one. May I add that in this past 2months I have purchased an AIO27″ desktop, a 17.

3″ laptop, also a large screen TV and several software programs. Only 2 of these items were from Best Buy (which I am happy with,so far) the in store sales guy was terrific,as for the online purchases ,well they were run of the mill online.

Shipping varied btwn vendors,again Best Buy being very good (so far).

Needed something compact, fast and having decent storage for my laptop. This drive came in a nicely branded, doublesealed, cardboard box. The SSD drive is very small indeed, light and comes with it own, short, cable to connect it to laptopPC.

Unfortunately, this is not USBC, which is a real shame, as thats the new standard. Once connected my laptop automatically registered the device and opened its folder, where there was an. exe file to run.

This installs the Seagates backup software, which is actually very good and will keep your foldersfiles synced between your laptop and the drive. I particularly wanted a drive to backup my photography, as I currently have 28,000 photos, videos and files.

Backing these files up to the SSD drive took just under and hour, which I personally think was impressive. The Seagate software does allow you to select what you backup and has an archive option, which can achieve your deleted files if wanted.

You also get 1years subscription to CREATE Mylio, which is a cloud backup and photo organisation package. This isnt the cheapest solution for me, given Im getting 500Gb, but me is the most convenient and its extremely compact, extremely fast and does look cool with the camouflage pattern.

I really like this tiny drive, but have to dock 1Star for the lack of USBC. I hope you found this review amp photos interesting, informative and useful.

I’ve been in the market for an external hard drive as I opted to purchase my Mac with less internal storage to save money. However, with all the photos and videos I take as well as the games installed, my laptop’s internal storage has quickly reached capacity.

That’s why I was so happy that I landed this External hard drive from Seagate. Seagate is a well-known and fantastic brand in this category, so I was confident that this product would perform flawlessly.

And I can confirm that it has lived up to my expectations. First off, it is extremely portable. I can easily fit it in my backpack, or cargo pants pocket. Despite its small size, it holds a huge amount of storage capacity.

And its fast. I love how I don’t have to wait around forever when transferring files. Its really fast, so I can get back to work quickly. It also has some nice automatic backup features which is good for me, because I would otherwise forget to backup manually.

It really is plug and play as well. Effortless setup. I went from opening up the package to transferring files in a matter of minutes. Thanks Seagate!.
