20 Best Hard Court Tennis Ball (2023 Updated)

“Let’s get a non-player’s opinion,” said no one ever. But nevertheless, here I am. First of all, we have the Penn 1 and the picture clearly shows the Penn 3s, but I’m just going to ignorantly pretend they’re all the same! But as someone who just got into the sport on a whim, they work perfectly fine! They bounce, they’re round, classic look and feel, they don’t disintegrate when I hit them – what more could I want? Not the cutest or most luxurious packaging, but who cares? New plastic/tennis ball smell is kind of strong at first, but don’t sniff them for too long and you’re fine!.

First one had a dead ball. So I exchanged it. Same thing. One dead ball. Garbage. When I describe it as dead, it means that one will bounce visibly a lot less than the others. Will have to buy one of the more expensive ones and hope that they are better.

And another thing. Canadian Tire’s inventory said that the yellow ones were in stock. None were. Only these orange ones were on the shelf.

I like Penn extra duty balls due to their ability to last in multiple weather conditions. In Phoenix they last well in the usual dry heat, but also on those occasional humid days and occasional frosty mornings.

Penn extra duty balls also keeping bouncing well into the 3rd set on dusty court conditions, when other brands tend to fade as the fuzz accumulates dust. I highly recommend Penn extra duty balls.

I have been wanting to try the Penn Pro Marathon Extra duty balls for a while to see if they provide longer durability. I am still in the process of playing them right now so do not know for sure yet.

I appreciate having the ability to buy individual cans to try them out, vs. the case which most other tennis suppliers offer. Wish the price was a bit lower, but hopefully they will last longer to justify the extra cost.

This is the only ball that I used to use for competitive matches. I used to use them for training, but since the Pandemic’s supply-chain issues, the availability has been limited and the price has now increased 25% to around $100/case + delivery and tax.

Now I use these balls only for training due to their durability, and I use standard Penn balls for matches and literally use them for warm-up balls after one match. My guess is that the availability will increase, but that the price will never return to what it was pre-Pandemic, which is unfortunate.

So great to just grab a new can as I run out the door to the courts. They are great for USTA matches and are the ball of choice sold at the three local clubs where I play. Nothing is more irritating than poor quality balls many of which are near dead.

I love filling my serving basket with these nice balls after a match. Dead balls are hard on the arm and these balls remain useable for some time. Thanks for your fine service.

The Wilson US Open Official Ball EXTRA DUTY are without doubt the best tennis balls I’ve had the pleasure to play with – beats any Slazenger ball hands down – very durable & maintains their pressure bounce for 2 weeks after being used.

All players who play in my arranged tennis comps each week have given them the thumbs up – have not received one complaint about this ball. And the price is cheaper than Slazenger for a box of balls.

I would encourage any player/clubs thinking of using this ball to purchase the whole box of balls – you’ll never need to consider using any other ball for both hard court or synthetic grass courts.

The balls are great! No complaints there. We buy a lot for our tennis club. However, I HATE plastic and will swap to balls in a metal can when I find them. The Wilson plastic ring top instead of a lid is a double insult!! It is the perfect size to choke a bird or a sea animal or a fish in a slow death.

It also means it is harder to recycle the plastic cans for crafters and at least get them used twice. Please consider going back to metal cans!!!!.

I bought a few cases of Penns previously, and while there’s nothing wrong with them, the Wilson US Open Tennis Balls are superior. They are slightly more lively out of the can and offer a more solid feel on serves as well as groundstrokes.

Additionally, they seem to keep their bounce longer and after more uses which is always a plus. Even if you open a new can every match you play, previously played Wilson US Open balls make for excellent practice and warmup balls.

Great bounce! They hold up well to lots of usage! And the colour is perfect to distinguish your balls from the rest at the tennis court.

Used about 10 times in past month for aggressive tennis play and all three balls still have same level of bounce as when first purchased.

I’m very surprised that nowhere in the description do they mention that a potion of all sales of these balls is donated to breast cancer research. I have always used Penn tennis balls and when these pink ones came along it seemed like a no brainer.

Sure there were a few laughs and smirks in the early days (I’m a guy), but these balls are common now and don’t garner a second look. Plus they have the added bonus of making it much easier to keep track of your balls as opposed to those belonging to other people.

I’ve played with Penn Championship balls for many years and was always dissatisfied with how long they retained pressure. Figured it was normal for tennis balls, though. In the last 2 years, I went to Penn Tour Extra Duty for hard courts and Pro Penn Marathon Regular Duty for clay.

Both kinds of balls last at least twice as long as Penn Championship balls in terms in terms of retained pressure. So they are definitely worth the extra cost of the basic Penn Championship ball.

All good. We have been using this ball for several years, and we continue to buy more. Penn hit the jackpot with this offering. The balls keep their life quite well, and we bring the ones from the previous outing to use for warmup.

They’re almost as good as the can we open for the match.

We prefer to use the Penn extra duty balls. This one goes flat faster than the extra duty ones. The ball’s pressure are inconsistent even if they came out of the same can. Some came out firm and other are a bit soft.

They bounce well in the beginning but do not last as long as the extra duty ones. Overall, Penn balls are good tennis balls.

These balls are useful for playing or practicing tennis. Also dogs and babies enjoy biting them so I would suggest you get a dog and a baby so you can have all three activities on the go all at once.

What fun multi-tasking!.

My puppy goes through so many tennis balls that my boyfriend and I started looking for heavy duty, durable balls that could hold up to our 6 mo. old puppy. The dog toy brand balls didn’t even come close to the Dunlop’s.

They’re the only tennis ball she hasn’t been able to skin!.

Im overly satisfied with my grip selection, Ive been using these particular grips for the last 6/7 months since switching from Tournagrip, and I can say Im greatly appreciative for that switch. Great sweat absorption,which is something I direly need, and Im more confident that the racquet is firmly in my hands and not slipping and twisting in my hands not that tournagrip did that, its just that with tournagrip I would always get blisters in the palm of my hands and I dont get them with the Pro Team SP Overgrips by Babolat.

I think, these balls are a tad heavier and smaller in comparison to Penn Extra Duty balls. But that’s what we like about them because the wieght gives us a good feel on the racket and balls also stay in with good amount of top-spin despite hitting bit harder.

Undoubtedly, they also last longer and the bounce is maintained even after one or two sets of play on hard court. The only disadvantage is that they are out of stock most of the time, maybe because everyone wants them.

My German Shepherd became very ill with fast noisy panting and breathing difficulties for days, after I bought a three-pack of these. It looked like he was in pain and he was going in to the vet for X-rays and an exam.

We were very worried. I looked at him with one of those balls in his mouth, and I saw the yellow fuzz on the outside had turned into a mushy gray skin. He was ill every time we went for a walk or outside and he had these in his mouth.

I took the balls away and threw them in the garbage and he quickly recovered. Do not buy these for your doh.

In comparing the balls to Penn, the quality of the Wilson balls are so much better than any of the Penn balls. The balls hold their felt during the match. There are no irregularities in the seams. Compared to Penn, the Penn’s have little tabs.

The Wilson balls have superior quality control in production compared to Penn. I make this comparison because our club only carries Penn balls. When I bring balls, I receive compliments on the quality of the Wilson balls.

Then my partners go and get the inferior Penn balls from the front desk when they have to supply balls. As a coach, I have stopped using the “coach” balls that other manufacturers offer. The Wilson balls hold up longer and the cost is actually slightly less per case.

The other balls are good for 2 weeks as practice balls. I am gettng almost a month out of the Wilson balls, cutting my cost in half. Thank you Wilson!.

My German Shepherds needed something to burn off their excess energy and the Wilson Championship Extra-Duty Tennis Balls 1 Can/3 Pack were the perfect solution. As soon as I opened the vacuum-sealed container and pulled out one tennis ball for each of my two dogs, they immediately sensed the quality.

When they wrapped their vicious mouths around the solid, but soft and forgiving tennis balls, they proceeded the destruction process. But they couldn’t because I use them exclusively for fetching. No other sporting goods store or pet supply store in my location carries these wonderful tennis balls.

Long lasting felt for hard courts. These used to be sold as ATP Tour licensed balls and used by pro tournaments. Maintains bounce for 3-5 hours of rec play and/or a week or two after opening. Minus one star because one out of about ten cans so far had no pressure.

This is a good tennis ball. But, having played mostly with the ProPenn Marathon these last few years, I would definitely come back to the Marathons: the felt is better, they’re faster and more lasting.

We play mostly on clay and the Tour fluff up too fast. But now I know.

This is by far the best high altitude ball that I’ve used. I play at 7000 feet elevation, so a good, high altitude ball is essential. The ATP balls are incredibly durable and do not fluff, plus the feel and bounce are great.

The color of the felt does appear more visible than other brands. I think the ATP ball lasts at least twice as long as Dunlop, Wilson, or regular Penn high altitude balls. They are slightly more expensive, but due to extra durability they come out cheaper in the long run.

I have been using Penn “tour” for 2 months. Because Holabird did not have the ATP. I have used 7 or 8 cans. The balls get flat unusually too early. The “ATP” balls were great. lasted 3 sets. The “tour” balls, do not even last 20 minutes.

3-4 times now with a brand new can, i would notice after 20 minutes that 1 just stops bouncing, and the other 2 are not too far behind, the felt is still prefect looking and the ball already does not bounce??????????????????????????????????.

I bought a case of these thinking they would be consistent with the Wilson ball quality. However after going through 3 cans I can say that these are poor quality. They lose their bounce and become compressible.

They are horrible.

I had previously purchased a box of Penn balls, and they were dead after a few practices. The Wilson balls are still going strong after a week of intense practice and they still have their felt on them.

I really love these balls and I seriously recommend them.
