20 Best Handlebars For Mountain Bike (2023 Updated)

This is the second Renthal Fatbar that I’ve fitted as a non-standard bar to bikes that I’ve owned. This time I went for the 35mm size version in black, with 40mm rise and full-on 800mm width. A bit unusual perhaps to some, but I am finding that it really works for me.

Really solid, well made product and surprisingly light given it seems to be completely bulletproof in terms of flex when riding. It simply inspires confidence when pushing on, meaning that you always know where the front wheel is going to track as you move the bar.

Of course a good front tyre and wheel set up help as well, but even with this, having a handlebar that will flex a bit when hitting rocks, roots or jumps will soon make you back off. With the Renthal Fatbar it’s exactly the opposite.

As it’s so confidence building you tend to push on, even perhaps where you shouldn’t occasionally leading to some ‘brown short’ moments ! At 800m wide, it IS wide so my only caveat would be to check your gapping when reading through narrow tree lines or cut it down if you really must.

Although it would be a shame to spoil that fine Renthal engineering.

Needed new bars for a rebuild of a 2008 Kona Unit 29 I bought new back in the day. Went from a rigid single speed to a 1×11 w/ front suspension. It’s a brawler and the Chromag FU40’s are just the ticket.

Look great, and like the rise and sweep – actually have the black w/grey not the red.

Bought this to replace my 2021 GT Aggressor Pro mountain bike handlebar with this one. It greatly reduces strain on my wrist and back by being able to sit straighter upright. The quality of this handlebar is exactly the same as the one that came off.

All shifters and brakes clamps fit one w/o any problems. Use compress air to get the grips off. A great upgrade.

I replaced my e-bike handlebars (no rise) with these bars. My riding posture is much more comfortable for me now. My bike is now more cruiser friendly. I’m a little old for the downhill death defying riding of my youth, so I would recommend these bars for riders who want to sit up and see where they are going.

Product as advertised. I wish the black coating was thicker. I had to be very careful in attaching the handlebars to the front tree and still managed when putting on the brakes, to scratch the black paint, and had to apply some black paint as a touch-up.

So be careful when attaching brakes or shifter or handlebar to the front fork, the black paint coating is THIN and will scratch easily!.

These are replacing Eastern EC70 bars which failed in < 1 year. Not quite as light, but if you ever went flying because of a broken bar, you'll be happy to take the slight weight penalty. Very well made and the finish looks great.

I can’t find a single thing to nitpick. Paired with a 40mm Thomson Elite X4 stem. PROS: Easy To Install, Durable BEST USES: Upgrade, Mountain Biking.

Trimmed down a little on each side to roughly 710mm and they are nice. A little wider than my old 685mm bars. Matches nicely with the new thomson stem I got also. Just wish they came in a gloss black design.

Product looks really good. Quality is there, as with all Thompson items. Lighter than my old alloy handlebars. Feels nice and comfortable on the ride. Would recommend.

Le poids est un peu plus léger que mon cintre en alu. Le backsweep de 12 degrés pour moi est parfait , la position des mains est plus confortable. Le seul défaut , c ‘ est son prix qui reste encore cher , même si ce produit est d ‘ excellente qualité.

Hormis le prix , j ‘ en suis très satisfait pour toutes ses qualités.

Ordered these bars after a mishap with the garage took out my over-priced carbon set. The feel and fit are spot on and the graphics aren’t overly done. They are a little on the heavy side but only by a few grams.

I bought the green ones in an attempt to match my lime green Nomad but the green anodizing color is a bit off (it doesn’t really match too many green paint schemes currently available). They also tend to relfect light back up under your glasses on a sunny day as the finish is a bit too glossy.

Other than that they are a great budget minded, tough set of bars for anyone looking for a wider grip for their all mountain or dirt jump rig. PROS: Attractive Design, Easy To Install, Durable CONS: Heavy BEST USES: Casual Riding, Mountain Biking, Upgrade.

Bought these bars as an upgrade to my 2003 Giant Warp DS3. I am very please with the color size and style of these bars. They came much wider than the stock bars I had on my bike. I did cut about 3/4 of an inch off each end and the are still an inch wider in each end than my old bars.

Riding the trails with these bars has been great, more comfortable & better hand position than my original ones. No flex or problems at all. PROS: Lightweight, Durable, Attractive Design, Easy To Install BEST USES: Casual Riding, Upgrade, Mountain Biking.

This is one of the best deals on a flat MTB bar. Very light compared to other flat aluminum bars, and available in grey to match my titanium frame.

Das ist kein Duft, der anderen negativ auffällt, da er so schön leicht ist. Man fühlt sich frisch und gepflegt. Toll ist natürlich auch der Preis, da es dafür nicht nur das EdT, sondern auch ein kleines Duschgel gibt.

FSA is a very underestimated brand. I had another 680mm handlebar and 100mm stem for 8 years. Absolutely no problems with it. I just changed it to this 700mm handlebar and 80mm stem for better upright posture.

Basic solid bar!! Fsa is great value

Looks chunky and bigger than the 31. 8 its gloss coating is robust compared to the Matt coating very nice looking bar that will attract the right and wrong kind of attention thieving magpies will want it.

I’ve had a Raceface Next carbon bar on my old 26er since 2007 and always like the geometry and damping effect on the ride. The stock 35mm alu Giant bars on my new Trance are pretty harsh, so I was looking for an improvement.

These Next35’s have absolutely delivered – great geometry, good damping effect, whilst still remaining direct and saving of 150g of stock is a bonus. All at very reasonable price for carbon bars. The 760mm width is fine for me.

No regrets.

I’ve added a big full squish rig with 800mm bars to my collection. Loved the 800m bars so much that I had to order 2 SixC bars in the 31. 8 for some other bikes which will replace the Next bars I have.

The SixC 31. 8 at 785mm is a perfect replacement for the Next bars which now feel too narrow at 720mm Like all Race Face bars, these are solid feeling, good looking and durable.

I’m liking these bars a lot! Riser was definitely the right choice. no more sore back! And thanks RF for the great install instructions including the right torque specs for both stem and accessories.

Love that it came from you vs having the search the net for right values. Price was right and very competitive against the others. Glad I got these from RF and supporting our Canadian workers!.

Great bars! Just what you would expect from a brand that’s been doing mx bars for years. Very similar feel to my old Renthal bars. Even has marks for alignment of brake levers and shifters.

Fantastic bars for the money. Mine came stock. I wanted an upgrade from 20mm to 40mm rise. Looked elsewhere but these Rock and solid value for money.

I needed a higher rise bar and these fit the bill of what I was looking for. Great bars, nice rise and back sweep. I would recommend to anyone needing a higher bar for a great price.

When I decided to replace my specialized bars I knew it would be a Ritchey. There is a bunch of different brands to choose from but I like Ritchey components when it comes to bars, stems etc. I didn’t have to cut it either.

It came to my exact measurement I wanted. I went from a 680 to 720 and it’s perfect for my XC Specialized Epic. The rise and sweep were spot on for me and right away I could feel the responsive control when out on the single track.

I like the textured clamp area and the graduation markings make it easy to be consistent when setting it up to your preference. I will always check Ritchey first and Jenson is a solid company to work with.

Never had a problem when dealing with them!.

I needed some handlebars with a bit more sweep to relieve wrist pain I was encountering at about mile 8 in to my rides. I wish these were about 40mm wider, but overall, a really great set of bars. The sweep isn’t so drastic that I’ve sacrificed handling.

The finish and build quality of these are amazing. I was shocked at how light they were, thought I had mistakenly been shipped the carbon version. Highly recommend if you’re looking for some comfort.

Really nice wider XC bar for a great price. It is rather lightweight for being a “Comp” bar and you can definitely feel a difference in increased leverage if you are upgrading from a bar skinnier than 700mm.

However, I would not pair this bar with any stem over 90mm, as that would make it very difficult to get your weight back. I’m running a 90mm stem right now and I am thinking to slacking it down to more of a 80mm or 70mm due to this bar.

Purchased this to replace a Race Face Aefect 35 20mm handlebar that came with the bike. Wanted a higher rise and the copper/black finish matched the color way of the bike perfectly. Although aesthetics was one reason, this bar is just as good as any of the more well known brands out there.

Very nice finish and great overall quality. Very happy with this purchase.

This is something seriously to consider when looking for upgrade. It is well designed, nicely finished and what is most important it is carbon. It provides exceptional control and is lightweight. Because of aggressive feel, it is essential to fit the right grips here.

With this one you really feel direct steering response and control. There are cutting marks if you up to cutting down. Either way without doubt this bar feels very good.

I’ve been using these bars for just over 2 weeks, to be honest I wasn’t expecting to like the looks as much as I do, the graphics, finish and overall look of the bars is great. They’re lightweight and a massive upgrade to the stock ally bars on my stumpjumper.

Definitely recommended!.

after a few rides with these bars I’m not sure if I can feel much actual ride difference from using my old ones, but they look and feel so much better, and are crazy lightweight so definitely make a difference to my overall bike weight.

Wont be swapping them back purely on the look!.
