20 Best Handcuffs For Law Enforcement (2023 Updated)

These handcuffs are on the small to medium size. Large wrists and ankles won’t fit. The link is strong and won’t snag. The lock is nice and crisp. It uses a double ratchet to prevent picking (bent paper clip method) but with a little wiggling it can still be done.

The cuffs fits good in most holsters made for similar models. It fits almost perfect in a kydex S&W holster but it is evidently a tiny bit smaller in size so it might rattle. I suggest a nylon or leather holster for it if your planning on carrying it.

The finish is good. It seems to hold up to wear and tear quite good. It doesn’t pick up scratches and dents easy. Overall this is a viable option for a day-to-day cuff that will hold up to most any scenario.

I received my order quickly. Im a Corrections Officer and was alittle skeptical about these cuffs. But after using them on the job I am satisfied for the price its a great deal. Im ordering another pair for a co-worker.

INTRO So I’ve had these cuffs for about a year. Though I didn’t buy them from Galls, both the cuffs AND Galls are highly recommended. I have an account and have ordered from Galls many times and they are always on time and comparatively priced.

THE CUFFS Talking about the cuffs, Peerless in my opinion are superior to the competition. The functionality, strength and feel of Peerless cuffs are exceptional. Throw in the lightweight feel and blacked out look of these cuffs, they are top notch.

I’ve had several prisoners attempt to escape these cuffs but we’re unable to break free. They are MUCH stronger than they feel. CONCLUSION I highly recommend these cuffs. As far as where to buy, you won’t find a better deal than here at Galls.

If you’re considering these cuffs, just go ahead and order them. I own 2 pairs and haven’t used either of my Peerless nickel cuffs since. You’re welcome.

Would definitely recommend these cuffs. All Peerless cuffs are very smooth operating and are perfect for quick and easy application on all subjects. I own several pairs, one of which has been used by myself for the previous 16 years and were used by my father during his career prior to that.

They are at least 30 years old, used hard daily, and still as reliable as ever! I tried several other brands and will still recommend Peerless as the best brand of cuffs currently available.

These are solid cuffs. Good movement straight out of the box, unlike some other brands that I felt needed to be broken in because they were too stiff. They’re considerably larger than the standard peerless cuffs too, but I have no problem fitting them in my double case with my other set.

I really like the look of the black finish on them as well, though I hear that it makes them more susceptible to rust.

The Cuffs are Great, but I wouldnt use them for Handcuffs due to its Size, you need big wrists/Hands to secure someone in these. But I bought them for the ankles and they work perfectly for that. I definitely recommend these if your looking for Leg Cuffs with a short chain, you dont find much of those around.

I bought a pair of these oversized cuffs for larger inmates on transports because I got tired of having to improvise using leg irons. They open up 12% larger and close down 12% smaller than standard cuffs.

They work great and are every bit Smith & Wesson quality construction. They work well with black-boxes on a four-point configuration with shackles! However, they will not easily fit into a standard size duty belt cuff case! And let’s face it, easy cuff accessibility is everything! Right? Smith & Wesson make a custom leather duty belt cuff case just for these oversized cuffs.

Why they are not offered here along with the cuffs I’ll never know.

For those who say these are leg irons, have you ever used leg irons? Look at the photo. There are two chain links. TWO. I’ve never seen anyone wear, or WALK in leg irons with only two links. Think about it.

They are obviously oversized cuffs, so consider the possibility that they are inadvertently mislabeled as leg irons, versus thinking they are deceivingly labeled as handcuffs.

As mentioned in it’s title, “oversized” was what made me want to purchase a set of these restraints to compliment my other pairs of S&W Model 100s and Peerless Model 700s. When they arrived in the mail, to my delight they definitely looked oversized.

When going through the field tests, I actually noticed that these restraints should have also mentioned that not only are they to handle the larger wrists of “clients” that would need securing, but also the exact opposite in people with very, very small wrists, such as children or long time substance abusers.

This was in fact put to the test where I have had the opportunity to attend a local community event where children were able to sit and play inside various different agency vehicles (cop car, fire truck, ambulace, armoured car, etc) to which I represented the Correctional Officers of my home province with a transport vehicle from the institution.

I ended up cuffing 50+ kids of different ages and having their pictute taken with restraints on and not once were the kids cuffed with the M1-1’s on them were able to slip them off. It had other agency members ask about them.

Now with all this being said, I would not replace normal sized cuffs for these oversized, but rather as an add on. The M1-1’s frame is so thick that they could barely fit in a cuff pouch designed for leg restraints, so speed and accessibily is out.

Overall I am still rating these cuffs 5 stars going on eBay’s rating scale because these cuffs do exactly what they are intended for, plus more. I am not an acclaimed reviewer by any means but when I received an email requesting to take some time out of my day to write about the cuffs, I felt it neccessary for people who were consisering to purchase them already or for those sitting on the fence.

These cuffs are by far your best choice for police work of the currently available cuffs on the market. The design allows larger than average suspects to be cuffed where standard cuffs are not large enough, yet the geometry of the shackle portion allows them to also fit smaller than average suspects that are often able to slip standard cuffs double locked at the smallest setting.

The shape of the single bar also assists speed cuffing.

Ive been carrying these model of S&W cuffs for about 16 years now. They are oval cut, as opposed to round, so they fit almost any size wrist (male/female, adult/child). Also, because of that interior oval shape, they can even be used as shackles in a pinch.

They do require an over-sized pouch though. Great piece of kit and a good price.

Cuffs are really nice, well made fit and finish, with pretty smooth operation. Mad City staff was polite, and attentive to some concerns I’d had regarding my order. Getting the product to me took a little longer than expected.

However, they’d resolved the matter satisfactorily. All in all, my purchasing experience was a good one. Yes, I would refer them to others, as a pretty good and reliable source for people’s product needs.

I give Mad City 5 stars, because in the end, they pulled through.

I would give these 4. 5 stars if possible just for durability. Though, I understand aluminum is more malleable. We had to double cuff a combative larger male, and during his ride to the jail the set of steel cuffs absolutely mangled mine because he was pulling on them and trying to get them off the whole time.

Other than that, they are great for every day use, especially with people that you know are not going to be an issue. I also love the double lock and key holes on both sides. It’s easier to get these on without having to remember which side faces up, etc.

I purchased these handcuffs several years ago. They were great and I really enjoyed having them. In the time I had them they did not rust or corrode the same way Blued handcuffs always do. I would recommend them to anyone who wants dark colored handcuffs.

However, they come with a caveat. Apparently Smith and Wesson are not making anywhere near enough of these to fill demand. I had to wait 2 months for mine to come in. I only ordered one pair since they were brand new to the market and I wanted to try them out.

Once I received them I figured out pretty quickly that I liked them and decided I would pick up another set when I needed to. I just recently ordered 2 more pair on 10-16-19 and as of 12-18-19 I still have not received them.

I knocked off one star for Smith and Wesson’s inability to keep enough of these in stock. Also, Be careful about these cuffs getting confused with “Blued” handcuffs. Mine “disappeared” after a transport of a couple of bad guys to our local jail.

They were replaced with someone else’s blued cuffs. Shame on me for not engraving my cuffs, but really they’re similar enough in look and feel to the blued handcuffs that I didn’t notice right away that they had been switched.

Purchased these cuffs while I was in the police academy over 10 years ago to have as a second pair/backup pair. They still work and feel like they did Day 1! I have been oiling them every now and then to make sure they don’t lock up due to not being used everyday.

I would highly recommend these to anyone! The darker color helps in the bright sunny days.

I really have not used them yet. I work 1am-9am carrying a lot money around Las Vegas for casinos. I was jumped last week. I got the guy down on the ground and wrapped him up with duct tape. I wished i had had handcuffs.

I am a private person, and I find Warrantless Arrests by Private Persons to be a key aspect in lawful Self-Protection. I favor these ones, which are the right size to fit small to large wrists, rather than the other ones which fit extra-large wrists.

The reason is that, as with dogs, the smaller ones are the most likely to make trouble. These will last a long time if you keep them oiled. I oil mine once every other week with Mineral Oil, unless I use them on someone, in which case I clean and oil them ASAP.

These were super stiff when I got them and dirty like they’ve sat in a warehouse for quite awhile. They could be a bit bigger. I can only use them on small women. I have to get a different pair to put on men or heavier people.

I had to oil the you know what out of them. Other than that, they do the job they’re supposed to. It’s easy to maintain control of the person.

Best cuffs Ive carried to date. Rock solid, super tough finish and honestly one of the more comfortable cuffs Ive tried. Very easy to carry between belt and pant for undercover work or holstered. Solid locking with added set lock to insure these things stay locked.

Feels like quality! Let’s face it the top brands are: Peerless, Smith and Wesson, and of course ASP cuffs ! I like the top 3, they all feel good!

I have recently joined the sheriff reserves and purchased all my gear from Galls. Galls came highly recommended from the law enforcement in my area. Everything I purchased including the peerless colored (pink) handcuffs are top of the line in performance and quality.

I like them fine, but my hubby says he prefers the fur lined ones! (Not really, these are for a friend graduating from police academy in a couple weeks. I am certain she will love them.)

Sure, if I was in law enforcement, I would want to invest a little more than ~$13 in a pair of cuffs – but for most of us these work just fine. Unlike the negative review I read here, they do in fact work with standard handcuff keys.

It took me some time to figure out the double-locking mechanism, as most of the time it’s either accomplished by turning the key the opposite direction or by using the pin on the opposite end of the key to press a plunger in on the side of the cuffs.

On this particular model, the pinhole for the double lock is on the narrow side/edge of the cuffs, not on the broadside (flat surface). it does not affect functionality, just had to look for it.

The metal is thin and flimsy. Might be good for a security guard in a night club but wouldn’t want a police officer using them daily.

S&W always has been my favorite brand of handcuffs. I believe they are of better quality than Peerless. Peerless seems to break more often than the S&W.

These are strong and adjustable to fit many different size wrists. They unlock easily.

Normal handcuff key will not work with them. Only the keys that came with the handcuffs.

These handcuffs are lightweight and vey solid. They are also very fast and smooth to when applying. On more than one occasion, inmates have commented on how much more comfortable they are than the standard or hinged handcuffs.

The only real issue I have experienced is they are much larger than your average set of handcuffs and therefore, I can no longer get two sets of handcuffs in my double handcuff case.

These cuffs are a little thicker and a little larger in overall size compared to standard Smith & Wesson type cuffs. You need to buy the specific ASP cuff case for these cuffs in order for them to fit.

I absolutely love these cuffs as they are light and easy to carry when working in a non uniform capacity. I work plainclothes security and these cuffs are awesome. I do not carry my Smith and Wesson cuffs anymore since purchasing these ASP lightweight cuffs.

Even if you have to purchase a new cuff case for these, you will love using them. Thumbs up on these cuffs !.

In our 8 years of operation, I have purchased over 200 pairs of these restraints along with their leg restraint counterpart, all from Galls. S&W restraints are outstanding. S&W customer service is second to none.

Over the past 8 years I’ve sent in multiple sets of restraints for a variety of issues and S&W has serviced every incident without question, even replacing restraints that were deemed unserviceable from detainee abuse.

S&W stands behind their warranty. This would have been a 5 star review, if only S&W had colored restraints. If so, all would be perfect in the world or at least in my world of corrections.

These Handcuffs come with a “feature” usually found on more expensive handcuffs. The “single strand rivets” and the “cheek rivets” are machined flush to the frame. This helps to avoid scratches and cuts to Law Enforcement and to the Subject as well during an arrest.

The “two link” chain is preferred over the “three link. ” This design makes it harder to bind and break the chain on its own center link. I did not test these for strength. My use of Handcuffs are for teaching a University Class recommended for Criminal Justice students.

Model 1H cuffs are great for both having on your belt or on your light in your car. Much easier to control someone with these on compared to the peerless oversized chain cuffs. They fit a bit smaller then the normal 300s and will fit much larger.

Myself I can not wear 300s without major pain where as these fit my wrist with 1 finger of space like most cuffs should. Great cuffs to have at least a pair.

I received my S&W handcuffs and immediately put them to work. I made an arrest that evening and as advertised, they are durable, and just and all around great pair of handcuffs. I recommend these cuffs if you don’t want to spend the extra money for ASP cuffs.

Many times the assailant is sizing you and your gear up! My results have been once they see these, as compared to the generic Zip-ties, they realize that “Once In Hand” they are most likely stuck with no escape!.

I had great expectations for these cuffs, based on Hiatts’ reputation. Maybe I have unrealistic expectations, I don’t know. The hinge tends to bind, even after liberal oiling, and the bow action is not smooth like I expected, it is going to take a lot of breaking in.

The finish was less than I expected, too.

They are really good the only problem i have is they don’t fit in a double cuff case real well once in you have to fight to get them out
