20 Best Hand Controls For Cars (2023 Updated)

I have severe arthritis, and several joints locked up causing me to lose mobility. Its become harder to move my legs back and forth from brake to gas, so I began looking for options. Having a permanent system installed was a choice, but time consuming and expensive.

The Freedom Staff solved both problems. It’s portable, easy to install, and the learning curve is quick. I’m so glad I made this purchase. the only one that’s been a true life changer.

I read some reviews from previous buyers who complained about bird’s nests in the wire rope on the drum causing some jamming of the spool against the winch case. Some buyers suggested cutting some of the wire rope off to shorten it and help prevent such problems.

I used it once (so far) and found that if you keep an eye on how it is spooling as you bring the load in you can pretty well move the winch sideways (if and when it raises up off the ground) as it is spooling and carefully use a gloved hand to help guide it onto the drum to distribute the wraps more evenly across the drum.

In the future I will most likely be yarding logs a fair amount of distance so I am not in favor of cutting off any wire just yet.

The handle swings from console, it does not stay stable, causes some error when excelerating and breaking. Have to be careful. It will work in a pinch but for permanent usage I think we will have hand controls installed instead.

The device works as described, was in near new condition. I installed it in a Honda Fit. The controls will take some getting used to but I believe it will enable my wife to continue driving despite declining use of legs.

Price of the device make it easier to justify trying the unknown device.

The only problem I have with it is. You have to pull to go and push to stop. this is a little confusing once in a while. I can cause unnerving lurches in acceleration if you are not paying attention.

Takes a little getting use to with the pushing and pulling. But on the flip side it is unbelievably easy to use.

The product works good for the price. other products out there but you will have to pay a heavy price. I have a 5 speed transmission in my car and only my left leg is available , So I use thee freedom staff for gas and brake it took a little time to get used of it but I mastered it.

I use just the brake side of this tool , and so far I have liked it only used it like 4 times now but really nice to operate and easy to install , going into the city to my doctor tomorrow so thats going to be the real test for me.

I use my right hand on the control and my left sometimes it’s nice to be able to switch if I need to. Only complaint I had was the over the steering column strap isn’t long enough to go around my column in my F150 just to much stuff and to big around so I just rest the arm on my lap.

be nice to see a longer strap for the bigger vehicles like a truck.

As a disabled single mom, this has made it possible for me to continue to independently transport my children/family places safely despite severe nerve pain & significantly reduced feeling in my lower extremities.

Where before I had to drive “double footed”, placing 1 foot on each peddle prior to beginning to drive so I could keep my eyes on the road while independently pressing on the gas or breaks as needed; now I’m able to safely drive without any concern about the risks of a foot slipping off a peddle as I drive without me realizing it until it’s too late.

I have better control of my vehicle & feel safer as I drive down the road.

These hand controls were kind of hard to install only because it was difficult for me to get both hands around the steering wheel in order to tighten the screws once I had it on the pedals. It took me about half an hour the first time I tried it only because I was taking my time to make sure I did it right.

I did not install the steering wheel spinner so I have no idea if it works or not. The controls are easy to use but do require some practice until you become familiar with them. These controls perform as advertised.

This was a replacement for the same one that had died. It lasted about four years but because I am an auto technician, it got put through a lot. From chemical spills to tools hitting it and insane drops…it took a lot.

So, it’s been great. Side note, Best Buy tried hard to make me set up an appointment with an installer to pair it to the car (remember, its a replacement remote. ) Said, you can’t do it yourself…. even got offended when I said anyone can, it’s right in the user instructions.

I dont mind buying at Best Buy, but I have no use for anyone even remotely connected to geek squad. They always know more than i do, i rarely find they do.

The best car mod I’ve EVER done! This is without question the best car mod I’ve ever, EVER done! The range on this remote puts the factory ones to absolute, need-my-safe-space-shame! I also LOVE the pit-stop function! I’m in my car a lot for my job and being able to leave the car running while I run in and out really quick is SO important (especially down in the deep-sweaty-South).

I am also SO glad that I went with the 2-way, that confirmation is SO nice. This system has SO many features that will make your life easier. This particular remote is solid aluminum and very durable and also has the rechargeable battery.

With as much as I use it, I still only charge about once every month or two.

Works great, has the range it claims. Cars, trees, etc. will interfere with the range. Wasn’t too difficult to program to the vehicle, I did it myself in the Best Buy parking lot right after purchase.

No problems with locking, unlocking, or remote start if you follow the procedure. Having to turn the remote on to lock, unlock, start is kind of a pain but it’s better than accidentally starting your vehicle all of the time.

Has a built in battery that needs to be charged. I have only had to charge it 3 or 4 times in a year and a half. Charging cable is not included but is just a mini usb that I have a bunch of already.

My old truck’s brake control had the old style brake control, which was fine, but this one was a good find. Only about $20 more, and has easy access pressure guide, and flexible monitor that I put where I could see it.

When different weights on my trailer are being pulled, it is a constantly changing safety situation and this product solves a problem. Nice find Blain!.

Bought this for my 2014 Chevy Silverado. Easy to install and works great. Good breaking power when towing my travel trailer. Had to buy a pigtail to fit my truck but comes with everything you need to install.

Purchased as a replacement for one I took into the ocean with me. It is fairly easy to pair, but the directions did not work properly exactly because the alarm had to finish cycling before i started the process.

Sadly this one only lasted 35 days (5 total uses). Unlocked the door, climbed in & drove 30 miles away, and when I got out the remote was dead. (was fully charged the day before) Plugged it in to see if it was a simply “battery discharge” issue, but still dead.

Zach was great when I needed help finding my Viper remote. He would not stop until he located it but his great assistance didn’t end there. I had brought up price matching with Amazon and he took time out to assist me there as well by looking it up on his own phone when I couldn’t find the proper listing & saved me $20! Working retail is not easy and can be draining at times but Zach treated me like I was his favorite customer.

Item as described- locks/unlocks doors and opens trunk, remote start my ds4 system and the digital display tells you what’s going (purchased separately by the way— for the price, I wish this exact key fob came with it instead of some 1 extremely basic remote).

You can add minutes to the remote started car without restarting again if you need more than 15minutes to get there. Overall, the features I was looking for made it worth the one time expense!.

5 stars for being fully compatible with the original key fobs I received with my Avital system. The fobs themselves have one weak point, that being the loop for attaching to the key ring. It can break.

Mine did but the fob itself was working great. I really wanted to get just a new case for the fob to fix it. I could not find that, but found these instead. While they were a little more expensive than just a case would have been, they were still reasonably priced compared to replacement fobs from Avital and from other sites.

I received them and one looked a little different from the picture. The icons were whiter and “fuzzier” in appearance. That was okay because I wanted the case. I popped it open like I was going to change the battery, removed the circuit board and rubber seal that had the push button contacts and moved them from my old fob to the new case.

I did not need to program a new fob this way. The other board and seal went into the broken case and it held as a spare along with the other fob which was exactly like my originals. It also is a spare that will get programmed if needed.

I’m happy with this purchase and would recommend this as an option if anyone has a fob that has a broken key ring loop but is otherwise working well.

I purchased 2 of these DEI remote starts, one for my 34 year old GMC pickup and one for my 94 Chevy pickup. Ive used and installed DEI Avital products for years and they have always been simple to install and program as well as always been great Quality products! They are my first choice.

Direction left out key info about a parking light jumper. Directions didnt say anything about where to install jumper or any info period. After installing remote start lights would not flash to inform me car had started.

On GM interface for Silverado they are super simple plug in one plug to the pac interface. Go online to program or set dip switches to your vehicle. The bad is once installed some are garbage and do not work at all.

Poor quality control @ PAC. Then you can tear your vehicle apart to replace it with a working unit. PAC interface for GM the same so poorly assembled you can not plug the connectors in without prying the case open enough to get the connector in.

Installer stated these are common issue with PAC.

I installed this at the recommendation of the salesman at Cartoys. It was paired with a Kenwood DDX6705s on a 2006 4Runner. The unit works but installation was harder than it should have been. The instructions are almost non-existent.

The website has an app that has to be downloaded and installed before selecting the product and the car model for instructions (can’t they do this with a web form?). The list of products did not include this product and it took me a few tries before I saw the “none” item on the product selection list.

After that, I was provided with a decent set of instructions to install the device. A ding on Cartoys for not offering the right connector for the steering wheel controls harness. I had to tap into the vehicle wires directly to make the connections.

Once installed, it works fine; however, there may be better options out there that include the proper connectors.

installed this on my 2013 4Runner with an Alpine Halo 9. it was simple and easy install with clear instructions. After setting the dip switches just plug in the jack, connect the standard power wires, connect the three control wires to the vehicle harness as instructed.

The Vol. up and down works. The track up and down works. The source button works. All the steering wheel controls on the left side work. the right side. no. It did nothing to answer call and end calls.

Voice button does not work. All the connections are made as instructed but you still have to manually program the buttons to get them to perform their stock assignments. Disappointed to say the least.

I bought this specific unit because I wanted to retain ALL of the stock steering wheel controls with out having to sit there and press buttons to program them.

bought the ASWC-1 initially and was unaware that this harness existed. when i went to install the ASWC-1 to activate my steering wheel controls with my new pioneer deck, i realized i would have to cut and splice some wires; i did not want to cut up the factory harness at all just in case i ever want to re-install the factory radio (i also had no idea which wires to cut into).

called tech support and they suggested this harness. bought it and installed it within 15 minutes of opening the packaging. it worked almost immediately in my 2012 scion. i taped up the RCA wires because i am using all 6 RCAs on my deck for amps.

everything works great, very pleased. would have been nice to have been made aware of this harness while purchasing the ASWC-1 but not a big deal. thanks sonic.

This purchase was in support of the purchase of a new Kenwood stereo system with a back-up camera thrown in, for good measure. The convenience of having all of the accessories available from one store is great.

I highly recommend having your system installed by the Geek Squad at Best Buy. You may also want to talk to them before you purchase to make sure you get everything you need when you place your order.

All in all, the was a great experience at Best Buy.

This wire harness worked perfectly in my 07 FJ Cruiser. I soldered the two power wires, and I plugged it into the vehicle, ASWC1 box, and new stereo. and it worked perfectly the first time. All steering wheel controls work.

Upgrading from the older round style plug to this to adapt to the newer contactor was great. Heavier duty and I think longer.

Only took 12 days to get from georgia to louisiana may want to rethink how you ship.

This appears to be a genuine Warn product and worked perfectly straight out of the box. The quality is great.

I purchased this like 3 years ago and has been amazing. I love good purchases that are worth their money in the long run. I love the simplicity and functionality. I think I only had one issue with it throughout the years.

I think it was out of sync or something. It was a simple fix and Best Buy was able to take care of it for me easily. I don’t remember exactly but I feel like it was free too. I got a new car and I’m definitely coming back to get another one of these because factory remote start is garbage.

I might even get the next tier up with a 3 way.

Pros: Small, simplify one key operation Cons: One key operation When I first got this remote, I thought it was great. ONE button to press. How can you go wrong? To lock the vehicle you press the button once.

To unlock it you have to press it twice. Here’s where it gets glitchy, if you press it twice too fast, it will lock the vehicle. If you press it twice too slow, it will lock the vehicle. When it unlocked my truck it only unlocks the driver’s door which is how the factory remote that came with the truck worked too but for that remote, you press the unlock button twice.

But to unlock all the doors for this remote you have to press it 4 times and if you nerf one of those presses, it locks the vehicle and you have to start over. Needless to say, I manage to unlock all my doors less than a handful of times over the 2 months that I own the remote.

This remote cost $79. 99. I upgraded to the Viper 7857V model which cost $99. 99 ($105 with taxes final total). Spend the extra money and get the 7857V model. It has 4 buttons, one to lock, one to unlock, one for remote start and one to open the trunk.

It has other great features as well but this is not the review for that.

Won’t pair. Sitting in car following the instructions. Won’t pair. I bought this because the little piece of plastic that holds a key ring broke in my original remote. This one looks sturdier and probably is.

Haven’t had the pleasure of using it yet.

I had the hardest time trying to pair this with my challenger. My car came with a viper 2 way remote and all of a sudden after 3 years the remote started dying on me. I literally would put a battery in it and its dead the next day.

Left it alone for a year and decided to look into it this winter. Went to bestbuy, explained my issue to a installer and he said get this. Its not two way but it should fix the issue. He said it shouldnt be anything wrong with the parts in the car since its just the remote dying so simply getting another remote should do the trick.

I brought it on Thanksgiving 2021, been trying to pair it ever since. I get to the 4th and 5th steps and it does nothing. Luckily I had until the 15th of this month to take it back so I did. Want to just take my car up there and say hey can you show me how to pair it but afraid they may want to charge me for an install fee.

Second car with rhe viper. Loved the first one so much on the sons car i wanted this too. First of all you should wait for a good deal, like on a holiday. The price drop is very significant, plus the free insall is handy.

Second, the unit is very programable. You cant program it but a viper dealer installing the unit has the access. He can have the unit honk, flash, whatever you want. Lastly the app is very user friendly.

You can even have multiple vehicles. Love this unit, would highly recommend it to anyone.

This is a very affordable working viper remote. I lost my previous remote. What you would want to know about this one is that it only starts the car and does not report that it has started the car. This works a fair distance and through many walls.

For the price you cant beat it.

I swapped these out for stock levers on my 2008 Ducati 848. Fit and finish are amazing and excellent quality, so props to CRG for making a killer product. Anyone looking to upgrade their levers should defiantly buy these.

Do not buy cheap Chinese nock off’s as those are dangerous and lack the attention to detail and proper tolerances CRG has made in engineering, plus this is your life here folks so safety is of the utmost importance.

I will say it is highly, highly important that if you wish to install these yourself to READ and follow the directions and make sure you test out and adjust the controls. If you do not appropriately bleed the brakes and adjust the plunger pin correctly with the MC you will lock up your front wheels to a dead stop that will lead to you being severely injured or worse yet death, no joke.

Recommend screwing in plugger pin all the way then backing out a 1/4 turn at a time, test then repeat until adjustment is correct. Note: don’t forget the set screw that secures the plunger pin, use blue locktite.

Brake fluid expands when heated, so the best way is to warm bike up to 140 degrees and ride around your block with no traffic around (hopefully) at 5mph with the front brake slightly pulled keeping caliper pressure on discs to heat up.

If the brakes begin to seize up, stop immediately. Screw plunger in and retest. If caliper does not seize up and you keep rolling for bit, you should be good to go. This is a process so take your time and be safe.

Excellent tool to assist disabled and elderly get in and out of passenger seat even in a four wheel drive. Supports heavy people like me to feel safe. However getting into drivers seat in a small car it does not make any difference because of steering wheel and confined space but getting out of drivers seat is easier to get to standing position without as much strain on a bad back.

Friend tried it, loved it, and is getting one for elderly father. Also tried it when I drove another elderly friend home, and it was easier for her to get out as well. Great little device and worth the money.

An Occupational Therapist recommended me to get it and I am grateful.

I bought this for my mom to get in and out of the car and it has proved very helpful. Before this, she used to grab the seat or I had to bend to lend her support. Handybar has helped her become more independent and worry less about getting in and out of the car.

I have had a Handybar for several years. I have had a problem getting in to the car by myself and the bar has been a very useful tool. I my travel around town, etc, I have seen several people having trouble getting into or out of their vehicles.

I have gotten to the point that I put bashfulness aside. The people that I have shown mine to, have ordered one for themselves. One of the men in the VFW has a auto shop. He followed me out to the car one evening.

I am always somewhat dubious about the products one sees hawked on “As Seen on TV” and their ilk, but took a chance on the ‘Car Cane’ as my 91-year old mother was having trouble getting out of the car unaided.

After the typical tussle getting the product out of the bubble pack, I had a chance to form an initial impression of the product. It turned out to be better made that I had expected and did not look or feel cheap.

It was impressively easy to use; just insert the car cane in the door post latch mechanism. The big test was whether or not it would make it easier for my mother to enter and exit the car. As it turned out, the car cane didn’t make a whole lot of difference as an aid to entering the car, as one just sort of “falls in.

” The real advantage of the car cane was as an assist in getting out of the car. In spite of some initial reservations on the stability of the device, it turned out to stay in place with no problem and it made it much easier for my mother to get out of the car with no assistance to the point where she now takes it with her anytime she is in a car.

Assists even a heavier person from exiting a vehicle. Can apply both downward and pulling/pushing pressure. Handy and portable. Good for knee injuries or cane users.

I love Audio Control, I had a three. 1 for about 15 years in four different vehicles, worked great. This arrived with the sub level and gain level knobs already falling off, hooked it up where i swapped out the old one and get lots of echos in the music, even has output with the volume all the way down, which tells me right away this unit has problems.

Still doing 4 stars because i know this company, and they make really great gear.

I had a lot of difficulty getting this to work in my vehicle. When I finally got it working, all of the buttons (vol. up/down and source) worked perfectly normally. After a few months, the unit started to go haywire.

Buttons started controlling functions for which they were not programmed; for example, both the seek buttons would control the seek forward function, and both volume buttons would increase the volume.

Even more recently, the unit has gotten even more messed up by having the seek forward button controlling volume up. Other times it does not function at all and only the built-in functions on my radio allow me to control the correct functions.

There were no instructions included for BA/BF Falcon and nothing on the manufacturers website. With a little online research I managed to find a. pdf file for BA/BF falcon and proceeded with the install.

Fitting was fairly straightforward three wires to tap and solder. Programming was a little harder though. After following the online. pdf instructions it would not work with my Alpine CDA-137-EBT. I tried several times with no joy except the volume down controlled volume up I decided to try the manual programming guide in the booklet that came with it and after a few goes BINGO!.

A Few Tips for ba/bf Ford falcons: 1. Do NOT plug the patch cable into the headunit until AFTER you have finished programming AND switch off the ignition. 2. The Stereo headunit was not turned on during programming.

3. The wire you splice into under the steering column is in a 4wire loom with a white plug and black insulation. 4. This loom is directly above a loom with a black plug and yellow insulation. 5. I removed the plug and cut back the black insulation and retaped it once the connection was made to red/white trace wire.

6. The red wire with a white trace under the steering column connects to the devices white wire with green trace. 7. The red and black wires are connected to ignition and earth and the rest are taped off and unused.

Hope this helps someone.

Received the clutch and brake lever and they were exactly as pictured. Seemed like good quality and the fit was perfect. After the little one rode 2 times the small push pin fell out of the perch. After looking at the brake lever I realized they were barely finger tight and would require locktite.

Partially my fault but you would think it would come ready to use. Now I can’t buy just the push pin so I need to order a whole new lever. -m-2015 KTM 65 SX–.

Jake really likes this lever. It is much easier to reach than the factory lever, which makes starts and clutch releases so much smoother. Easy install. Looks sharp!! Taken several wrecks, both muddy and dry hard pack.

Hasn’t let us down so far. Overall, super impressed.
