20 Best Half Helmets For Motorcycles (2023 Updated)

As much as I enjoy the look of this helmet, it’s badly executed. I don’t like how there’s so much strap left once you put it through the double-D ring. It’s a good thing they put a button otherwise it will consistently hit your face and neck.

The mesh for the earpiece is extremely scratchy. Not comfortable at all. I also tried putting speakers in the speaker pouch and it just put too much pressure on my ears that I had to where earbuds. It causes pressure points when you wear glasses, at least for me it does.

The muzzle works great. The wind deflector works as well too, Only issue I have is I can’t put the helmet on without removing the muzzle first. I didn’t get the extensions because I feel like it would be unnecessary seeing how I don’t use this helmet as my primary.

Without the muzzle, it gives me a bit of a mushroom head. But you don’t have to worry about fidgeting with it trying to put on or remove the helmet. The double-D ring feels flimsy as if made from cheap material.

Also the pull is thin and sometimes it’s hard to find with a gloved hand. If this helmet was about a hundred dollars cheaper, I wouldn’t be so hard on it. But for this price, I just feel that all these issues should have been addressed during prototype phase.

The price matches the quality. It is minimal to put together and is pretty easy. The color is just like the picture and the description is correct. The 4 stars is because it is not very comfortable and it doesn’t have very much cushion.

I have this as an accent piece so this will not be used as a daily piece for our sitting.

I’m very happy with this chaise. It is light and I haven’t decided if that’s a good thing, though I also have no factual reasons to believe it isn’t at this point. I figure I’ll see how long it lasts and will know then.

But for now, it’s a beautiful chair, very comfortable (more comfortable without the pillow, IMO), and was easy to assemble. Note: the color in the image looks more mauve, even though the description says grey.

Glad I made this purchase. Color is just as it appears in photo. Assembly is minimal and straight forward. Fits great in my space.

Get sizes straight. Ordered a medium size helmet for my wife. When it was received I tried it on and it was big on me! I wear a large. That is problem number one. Needed to exchange it for a smaller size.

Customer service for return was responsive and corrected issue. Well upon receipt of the new exchange, mind you we went to a small helmet size and that was too big on me too. A small should come nowhere close to being big on me.

Lost sale! I will be returning the small for a full refund at this point. Made in China on the box. That sums it up.

I was excited to get this helmet. I originally ordered a small. Apparently I did not measure correctly as it was huge on my head. Returning it was a breeze. I exchanged it for an extra small. It is still a little big but I think I can wear a headband and it will be fine.

It’s too cold to try it; hopefully soon. I love purple and it will coordinate with my riding jackets.

Good quality helmet, i really liked the butterfly design. It looked enormous on my head though and the size was off. The small i ordered was way too big for me. So i had to return it. Its too bad the fit was off and the helmet so bulky because the price was right and it felt lightweight but again i didn’t ride with it on.

I ordered up a size, but I needed to exchange it for the smaller one, which is the size I should have gotten to begin with, according to my head measurements and the chart Leather Up provides. Customer service was EXCELLENT in assisting with the exchange process.

Shipping is always super fast! As for the helmet, the fit is great. Not too heavy. I just wish the rose color was brighter, as in the picture. Both helmets I ordered, it was not. I saw the same helmet at a store near me and the roses were brightly colored.

Other than that, I’m happy with the purchase and Leather Up. I’ll definitely be ordering everything I need from this company!!.

The roses, vines & thorn’s on the helmet look painted or spray painted – very beautiful colors. I bought a small and it fit’s perfectly. The padding inside is very comfortable, but I wish it didn’t sit up so high on my head like a mushroom.

Overall, really love it.

Cute helmet to go with my new Ride! Ordered it somewhere else, got the wrong helmet in wrong size. The seller actually implied that ” I” switched helmets. Planning an out of town trip I knew they’d never get my replacement here in time.

Found it on Leather Up for a better price & got it in 2 days in time for my trip. Billy (other place) received my return helmet on Sept. 16 I still haven’t gotten a refund. I’ll stick with Leather Up from now on! Thanks! Love the fit as well!.

First reaction, looks cool and lightweight! Tight getting on, but molds to the head right away. Love it, no discomfort at all, I have worn it for about 30hrs total riding. Bought it about a month ago and love it.

It was tight getting it on as expected with a new helmet. Did my first test and wore it for an hour ride with no discomfort. I attached bluetooth speakers/mic and fits like a glove. Great view, wide, easy to drop the visor.

Airflow is great as expected with a half helmet, but tope vents work too.

Made well. Exactly like described. Love it!

Most uncomfortable helmet I have had since my Easy rider stars and strips from the 70s There is basically no pad between your forehead and a very hard piece of styrofoam. I tried to measure the thickness, impossible to thin, maybe compare it to thickness of a cheap sweatshirt.

Wore it around the house seamed fine but buckle it up and hit the road, you will be moving it around in 10 miles trying to get it to not bit into your forehead. I?ve had much better helmet then this for roughly the same money.

Move on don?t waste your money. Looks great fits like having a brick set on your head !! I also wear glasses can barely get the sun shade down without hitting them and you can?t get ahold of shield with gloves on.

Nothing is good about this helmet but the looks. Wish I hadn?t tossed the box but I did wear it to ride so I couldn?t have returned it anyway.

I’ve got back into cycling this year, happy to be out. I have been sweating up a storm and just been putting up with it. Having sweat pool on the bottom frame of my fancy glasses, having to clean them every 5k or so, so I can see.

There had to be a better solution, so was recommended Halo via reddit. I needed something that would fit under my helmet but still do the job. After one ride I bought a second headband. It collected so much sweat I could wring it out.

I had one drop in my eyes. An unbelievable improvement. I recommended it to my cyclist friends out west who have the same problem but just tough it out.

I wear a large the helmet actually fit well in the foam and was comfortable seemingly good quality but the thing is horribly big and mushroom tipped. I havent been able to find a DOT certified non mushroom tip helmet especially the german style but maybe its specifically in the certification that it needs to be a certain thickness but **** if youre looking for a cool half helmet just move to a different state with little to no helmet laws or wear a fake one lol.

XXXL Shell with a lot of padding to fit different sizes. Helmet is VERY large and makes you look like you have a Mushroom head. Will not wear this helmet, guess I bought a wall ornament. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!.

I purchased the DOT version of this helmet and the fit/finish is better than my $450 full face helmet any day. The connector is strong and simple to use. This is my official ‘around the town’ helmet!

I bought this helmet for short trips around town where my full face is more annoying to deal with. I had ordered a Cyber U1 helmet that I didn’t care for. That one got sent back. I ordered this one and I’m happy with it.

It’s a basic, no frills helmet. That was exactly what I wanted. There’s minimal mushrooming given it’s a DOT helmet. My only issue with the helmet is that the straps that come down for the chin strap don’t go completely around my ear.

Given that I don’t plan on any long rides with this helmet, that shouldn’t be a problem. Pros: Lightweight, little mushroom, relatively cheap, still DOT certified Cons: Chin strap feels a little cheap, no ventilation, no snaps for a visor.

Overall, I’m really happy with this purchase.

After extensive window shopping for a motorcycle helmet I finally settled on the Skid Lid ***** Shorty Chrome one. I knew that I wanted a half helmet and unique styling. I ended up at teammotorcycle’s site and that is where I made my purchase.

I almost got the Bomber Pinup one and my next helmet will be that one, but I’m really pleased with the chrome helmet and get a lot of “hay, like your helmet” comments. My bike is a vintage 1972 Honda CB 450 K5 and all of the chrome goes well together.

Great helmet at a great price. I received the gloss black as a gift. I liked it so much I bought this chrome one as a gift too. It is lightweight, comfortable and sits low on your head and it looks great.

I ordered this helmet on Thursday night and received it Saturday at lunch time, nuff said about shipping. This helmet does not have a snap for the chin strap to keep it from flying around. I plan to have a piece of velcro sewn on the strap to keep it in place.

Sizing was true and fit better than expected. My wife and I bought these helmets to use the intercom feature mainly. Works better than expected for that. I have an Indian Chieftain which has a fairing and the speakers are plenty loud and clear.

I’ve tried the music through the speakers and it was just ok but I have speakers in my fairing. We bought these while they were on sale and was definitely worth the money. We installed quick release buckles and prefer the fit over our older helmets.

Notes: I purchased this helmet May 2020 at the sale price of $175. 00. I have had the opportunity to use it for local riding and have not taken it on a long trip yet (40-60 mins of ride time max so far with it on).

I’m reviewing one month in, so i do not have a long term sample size Review (THE GOOD) HELMET ITSELF: The fit on the helmet is true to size. When I first got the helmet, it had a slight tight fitted feeling to it, but as I’ve worn it more the padding seems to be molding more to my fit and is very comfortable to wear and feels secure, the straps are comfortable.

The helmet is light and doesn’t leave me with a sore neck after riding from the weight (again, have not used it on a longer trip) I have an HJC half helmet and the visor vibrates and makes a ton of noise while riding.

The visor on the Sena is tightly secured and does not make any noise. What a huge difference that makes. I have gotten up to about 55-60 mph so far with this helmet, but i don’t think going 75-80 would be of concern with the visor either.

BLUETOOTH REVIEW As for the bluetooth, going 55-60 mph, when making calls, folks on the other end of the line can hear me clearly with minimal distortion, if any. They have reported that they cannot hear the wind, can hear me clearly and only at times it sounds like i’m in a tunnel but can still hear me clearly.

As a matter of fact, i rode in a windstorm recently with winds around 35-40 mph and they could still hear me clearly. Linking it to my phone and GPS were very easy to do and you can listen to music and hear your GPS directions clearly.

The speakers are not the best out there, but are adequate. I have not set up the intercom with my buddies yet, so i cannot comment on the intercom function. THE BAD: I don’t really have to many complaints and for me are relatively minor: First, the provided ear pads to insert to help deflect the sound from the speakers into your ears do not firmly set in place.

While riding i had one of the ear pads slip out of place and kind of “dangle” (they attached to the straps so they don’t fall off) and i could see the ear pad out of my peripheral. Didn’t create an unsafe situation, was just annoying.

I had to pull over to fix it. The ear plates, so far i have not had a problem with them falling out. Those are not attached so if they fall out, they are gonzo! Lastly, and this may not necessarily be a bad thing and may be that i just need more time to mess with it, but the Bluetooth has a lot of features to it (am i really complaining about too many features?).

With only three buttons on it, there are a lot of combinations of buttons, or amount of time to push and hold buttons to access some of these features. Because of this, it is difficult to operate while riding.

Between skipping songs, playing/stopping music, answering/ending calls and intercom functions, it gets difficult to remember which buttons to push and for how long to access certain functions. i’ve sat down and spent time going through them based the instructions, when when riding, wearing gloves and not being able to see the button (only feel), it is difficult to operate.

For these two issues, I’ve deducted one star. Really i would only deduct half a star if it would let me. That being said, overall, i think this is a great helmet for the price I paid and would recommend it to you.

Right to the cons. Snugged the helmet on as tight as I usually do way any helmet. Hit 50 km/h and the helmet literally tried to blow off my head. Tightened it up a bit more to the point it was almost choking me.

Still pushed back hard over 50 km/h. Took the visor off, dropped the shield down and it stayed in place. Didn’t do over 70 km/h. Pros- it feels comfortable until I had to tighten it down hard, size it true fit.

I was surprised it fit as well as it does, but it was like it was made for my head. The sun shield is easy to use and doe a good job. It is comfortable and not too heavy. The chin strap locks securely into place and is click adjustable for fine tuning.

I was looking for a new helmet to replace my old full-helmet with nearly 30 years of use. I wanted a half-helmet style, to be cooler in Summer. This one had the forehead air vents which helps too. There’s also a removable section around the ears and neck, and all this helps with airflow.

I’m not a fast rider at all, and felt I didn’t need to spend hundreds of dollars. It takes a standard inexpensive and readily available three-snap flip-up visor too, that replaces the peak. I chose the white colour for visibility by other road users.

All together, a great product for a great price. I was surprised by prompt delivery from FortNine.

Great helmet at a great price. Fits good and I like the removable neck skirt that also has small pockets in the ear flaps to put small speakers in there if you have some small enough to fit. All considered, a very good deal.

Just a note. I ordered large because my head size was just barely in the large envelope but returned it with no problem and got the medium that fits much better.

Well I read the reviews and thought for the price I would try it. I am very glad I did. The helmet was right on with the size chart. I required a large where my other helmet from a different brand was xl.

I wanted to get away from a 3/4 helmet but wanted something to help with wind noise. I have no windshield on my street Bob and wind noise with a normal 1/2 helmet or no helmet is to much for me. With the zip off curtain it offers just enough ear protection to keep me happy.

At 70mph it goes back up to to much for me but I am a wuss when it comes to wind noise. The zip off neck and ear curtain is very comfortable and is not to hot in warm weather riding. I leave it on and it’s still cooler then a 3/4 open face helmet.

Another nice thing is the v straps by your ears are a ways away from your ears. So without the curtain, I didn’t get the added wind whistle noise from the strap vibrating. As if wind noise isn’t bad enough, some helmet straps make it worse.

I didn’t notice any added noise with the neck curtain removed like on similar 1/2 helmets. Also I didn’t notice the helmet trying to rise up on me when riding like some 1/2 helmets I tried. The only thing I would flaw the helmet for is it would be nice to have a snap to hold the leftover slack from your chin strap.

It will flop in the wind unless tied up so a little snap to lock it to would make this helmet perfect for me. But for the price, you really can’t go wrong. I hope others enjoy this helmet as much as I have.

The helmet fits. I had no idea my head was shaped the way it was. I’ve always had to buy helmets that were much larger than the measuring tape would indicate that I needed, and they always rub and irritate after a while.

This fit per the measurement and, while it does create a bit of a mushroom head effect, it’s not as bad as others I’ve had (Scorpion & HJC). The only 2 problems are the visor, which is nice but narrow, and won’t allow for glasses if you wear larger frames, and the helmet bag, which leaves much to be desired.

Neither of these are deal breakers and I will definitely purchase again if they still make it when this one is due for replacement.

Just bought this helmet. It is the first helmet I have with any kind of visor ,I ride an older bobber sportster no windshield and was looking for a little bit of protection from the bugs and wind now.

I love this helmet ! It is super light ,has both a clear and sun visor. I wear glasses and they fit under the visor no problem. I love the attachment for the ears will be great in colder weather ! I also ordered the HJC IS Cruiser to try them both on Though the visor on the HJC came down further (below my nose) and the helmet covered my ears ,I found it a bit bulky but was also impressed by it.

If you want more protection from sound and wind the HJC is probably your best bet Having never driven with any kind of visor I kept the GMax. You cant go wrong with this helmet ,two visors and ear protectors if you want them.

Fit and finish are good for the money. The shell size is about average – I don’t look like a total mushroom head (mine was a small and fit my oval head perfectly) but you can tell it’s a DOT helmet with a visor.

The visor is optically great, no distortion and very easy to see through. There’s plenty of room for my sunglasses underneath when it’s down. The only potential problem I foresee is that the visor is very easy to raise and lower.

With my previous GMAX helmet the visor eventually got so loose it would fall down as I was riding. I put a few strips of electrical tape along the outside ends of the visor to tighten it up. Not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of.

1) The shield is not insulated enough and at 50 mph creates a draft in front of the eyes. Therefore, one needs to use another eye protection. 2) The bottom edge of the shield touches the nose (and I do not have a big nose)! One has the retract the shield a bit so the nose is cleared.

3) The tabs used to remove the shield are weak! They can easily break. In fact one of them broke. 4) The strap is too short in comparison with other helmets’.

This helmet had to be returned , I purchased this for a gift to my son but was the wrong size. I personally use the Bonanza and just love it. Make sure you read the sizing instructions carefully. It’s a little confusing , there is a head size and a helmet size on the size chart.

Measure your head size and use it to determine the helmet size. For example my head measurement is 59-60cm which actually cross-references to an XL (61-62). I went with the the L(59-60cm) not the XL(61-62).

There is a caveat that states to order one size smaller than what you think you should. This helmet favours a more of a round shaped head. On a positive note , their return set up is great and they were very helpful.

Love the retro look of the helmet. THANK YOU Fortnine for the pop up regarding this helmet running one size too big. I ordered an XL instead of my usual 2XL and the fit is perfect. Can’t wait for spring to try it out.

I was concerned about a few reports of “Gazoo factor”. Looking in the mirror straight on does create that impression somewhat. However, when checking the view from side profile the helmet looks perfectly fine.

I purchased the Vintage White helmet. The helmet fits very comfortable. Not a lot of wind noise when riding. It secures nicely with the D Ring buckle. The Biltwell Fitment Guide is accurate, and the helmet fits perfect.

I also purchased the clear Bubble Shield. It snaps onto and off the helmet very well, but with effort. I mean that in a good way because it feels solid and will not blow off in the wind. You can hear the snaps rattle a bit when riding because of the wind, but only when I have the shield attached.

Like I said the helmet does a good job of silencing the wind. The shield does a remarkable job keeping the cold wind off your face when early morning riding in cold temperature.

Ordered 2 helmets with 10% off, met the $100 free shipping requirements. Received 1 tracking number (assume 2 helmets in one package). Package arrives, 1 helmet. Emailed, they claim the package must be damaged and I should look again to see if the other helmet is inside, or to look around the house for another package outside.

Hear nothing from leatherup for 4 days. Emailed again to ask where the other helmet is, they said “sorry we sold you an item we didn’t have in stock, pick another helmet, we will give you 15% off” but they want me to pay the shipping! You saved me $2 more dollars on the helmet offering 15% off compared to my original 10% off, but the shipping is another $10! Shipping and discount should have been covered by leatherup.

Not until getting aggravated with them through email, someone called to clear this up. I found a different helmet that leatherup has my wife liked and was ready to clear up the order with leatherup, BUT I found THE EXACT helmet on Amazon, $30 cheaper and free shipping.

Too little too late. Love the helmet I got from them, but what a headache for a process that should have been so simple. I can’t comment on the original helmet we ordered because we never got it.

I haven’t been out of the state of Ohio yet but it is just what I was looking for with added gems, like the flip down sun shade.

Great helmet at a great price. Fits perfect. not too tight, not too loose. just snug. perfect. paint finish is perfect.

I wear prescription glasses so wanted a helmet with a drop down visor. I like that the visor is dark enough even in bright sunlight but, it made a slight crackling noise from the wind moving it back and forth.

I fixed that problem by placing a piece of tape in each side of the groove that the visor slides into. I also wanted speaker pockets. Unfortunately, the pockets are a bit too far back which makes it difficult to hear.

Besides those two issues it looks good and is a comfortable fit. I recommend using the Scorpion helmet sizing chart. My head measured exactly 21 1/4 so I ordered the XS and it fit perfectly. I would recommend this helmet with the above caveats.

I bought two helmets (XL, L) one for my wife and one for me. I was a big fan of Scorpion. The helmets are good quality but not comfortable if you wear eye glasses. Scorpion made a big mistake by discontinuing the Exo-C100 which was a perfect fit for someone who wears eye glasses.

I called Scorpion to ask them about why the discontinued making the Exo-C100 they didn’t have a good reason. I tried to explain to them that almost every biker at least wears sunglass. Time to move on and find a better helmet.

Rubber trim is lose in spots and the shield drags in and out of the interior of the helmet and not a smooth operation. They do not have the spring loaded shield anymore which was an awesome feature my last 2 Scorpions had.

Not the same quality they use to be made with and actually seem unfinished. 1 star for quality and 5 stars for the velocity it achieved flying to the trash can. Booooo.

I am very pleased with this helmet. It is comfortable, streamlined, and the pilot visor is an excellent feature. I don’t think I will ever buy another helmet without the drop down tinted visor. I also really like the removable ear pieces.

I used some velcro and attached headphones to them so I can listen to music or even an audiobook when I go on longer rides.

Got this for my wife. Sizing fit as per chart, so that was good. It’s not a BAD helmet but you can tell the materials and build just isn’t as nice as some other brands. Shades are nice and dark and drop low.

Comfy enough, but biggest downside is the shell was huge for a small. Looked like a mushroom. Ended up returning it and got the Bell PitBoss.

Love ordering from Fortnine, always quick delivery and their products are high quality. Absolutely love the LS2 helmet!! Did have to go down from a small to an extra small. But otherwise very light weight, great visor and air flow.

It’s good looking helmet. I believe it would have been comfortable but wrong head shape for me. I wear a X-Large in the other 3 Scorpion helmets I own and X-Large was to big in this helmet. Then tried Large it was to tight on my forehead.

I returned for different helmet. Revzilla was great to work with on resolving my fitment issues. Everytime I have ever contacted them about anything. Great Customer Service.

This is definitely a nice looking helmet! But don’t be fooled by the “low profile” description as it is most definitely not low profile. If you are looking at this helmet for a sleek low helmet, this is not the one for you.

Since I’ve bought an e bike I was thinking between this helmet and the regular helmet for bicycle and I didn’t make mistake. This helmet going perfect with my Super73 and it gives me that safety filing as well.

Beautiful helmet. Totally satisfied. Great fit, great look, fantastic finish, and light. Couldn’t be happier. I wish it would have came with a helmet sack like my wife’s Daytona Skid Lid. I purchased a great helmet for her with you also and she loves it.

Again great fit, comfort, nice paint and finish. I’m jealous. 🙂 Hers came with a nice helmet sack. They are great to protect the helmet when storing while not riding or protecting the helmet when you tuck it into your saddle bag.

Ordered it in a medium and received it I think 2 days later. It fits true to size but can act kind of like a parachute after 60 mph but I guess that’s what happens with a half helmet. It looks great though and not real bad mushroom head with it.

Cant beat the price either. 4 and a half stars because without any padding, the straps can be pretty uncomfortable on my neck at higher speeds, also they are very long. All in all though pretty satisfied.

Great helmet. I sized my helmet according to teammotorcycle’s recommendations and found my measurement to be on the cusp of two sizes. I chose poorly. Get the larger size, not the smaller size. Going to send it back for the next size up.

On the other hand, this is a very well made helmet with one of the smallest profiles I’ve seen in a legitimate DOT lid. I can’t wait to get the right size and get back on the road.
