20 Best Hair Thickening Products For African American Hair (2023 Updated)

I am 54 year old man who is big fan of Jack Black products for last 10+ years. I tried this shampoo because of it says ‘thickening’ shampoo. I used it for 2 months, but actually I lose more hair than before.

So, I stopped and looking for other anti-hair loss shampoo. Anti-hair loss is a huge butter market as you know. How can you make this kind of worst product with Jack Black brand on ??? This is my first disappointment of your product.

I know result is vary for everybody, but it should not be worst result. ‘loosing more hair than other regular shampoo’ ???? You should check the product quality.

During lockdown my husband and I tried hair care products together (more like I tried them on him) because we both have fine thin hair. The Jack Black is good for fine hair because it gives his body – he grew it out to his chin and he’s got big curls at the ends.

Looks more full as opposed to lank. When he uses the conditioner with it – it’s not as fluffy but either way it works for him so much so I bought the same for his twin brother. It didn’t work for me, too tangly, but I have long hair.

I would prefer a little more moisture. On the odd occasion I’ll use it if I’m not styling my hair.

Love JB products, but i don’t think this one’s meant for hair that’s already thick, so that’s a mistake on my part. i’d recommend on thinner hair types. my hair is thick and it actually caused my hair to shed more than normal, so i definitely wouldn’t recommend this for thicker hair types.

has a great smell though and the conditioner works well, but the shampoo isn’t for my hair type as i learned.

I bought the shampoo, conditioner and hair tonic from the range. I have already written a review about how disappointed i am with the shampoo. The conditioner is a requirement as the shampoo strips hair.

I have used the conditioner for 5 days now, on my mid-lengths to ends as stated. I have left the conditioner on for 5 minutes in an attempt to stop my hair being like straw. Before washing, I use a wide-tooth comb to try and detangle the hair.

My hair is still knotty, and I can feel it pulling and snapping whilst I am combing it. Despite washing the conditioner out thoroughly, my hair has felt lanky and lack lustre. I have even considered re-washing later on in the day to stop the itching.

So disappointed in the range, especially as it is so expensive. Such a waste of money.

I’ve been using both products for a month and have enjoyed using them. I have fine to medium hair and been suffering from considerable hair loss for approximately 2 years + The shampoo and conditioner leave my hair with more volume and shine.

The textures of both products are light weight but pack a punch. They don’t drag my hair down or dry it out. I think a pump bottle may have been better but realise that’s more plastic wastage. I’m very pleased that my hair shedding has literally halved.

The light fragrance is fresh and woody, a good choice suitable for men and women.

I have been using Philip Kingsley for some considerable years now and have never been so disappointed. I agree with other reviewers that the Shampoo is too runny and leaves my hair very tangled. The Conditioner which with other PK Conditioners smoothes my hair out this one does not and so I end up trying to comb the tangles out which is tricky and certainly not good for my hair.

So unfortunately I am returning this product (which means two lots of postage charges). But I will still stick with PK and understand that they are always looking to improve the products but will choose one of the combinations which works for me.

I so love this shampoo. I use it in conjunction with the conditioner. The texture is excellent, not so thick and not so thin, just right. It has a lovely floral scent that is not overpowering. It cleanses my hair without stripping it.

It leaves my hair feeling healthy and soft. I appreciate the lovely ingredients in this product. I highly recommend it. #haircare #shampoo #vegan #crueltyfree.

I was provided with the Thicker Fuller Hair Shampoo to facilitate my review, but all opinions are my own. The Thicker fuller Hair Gentle Cleansing Shampoo is my favorite in the four step Thicker Fuller Hair four step regiment.

The bottle is specifically designed to really get into the roots – it does, and it feels great! My hair feels clean, refreshed, and not bogged down with unhealthy ingredients. I can ell a difference!.

I originally bought this for myself (I’m a woman) because I have long, straight hair that looses volume quickly. Since using this whenever I wash my hair, I have seen an actual difference!! My hair feels thicker and keeps its volume until the end of the day (it usually is extremely flat within an hour or two).

My boyfriend has even started using this and won’t stop. It’s more expensive than other shampoos at Target, but any other one makes my hair feel weirdly dry and coarse, I think it’s the sulfates, which is why I was so excited to try Hawthorne.

The only downside is that it smells like a dude’s shampoo. I can look past that for the results I’m getting though. Boyfriend likes the smell though. Btw I wash my hair every other day.

Read several reviews online and it sounds like this would be amazing shampoo however when I got it, the smell was like very strong axe body for men. I couldn’t even try it and returned it. I love strong smells but this was like I was in some man’s armpit.

Truly the best smelling, feeling and cool looking shampoo I’ve ever used. I agree with the other reveiwer saying better than Kiehl’s. In fact I tossed mine out already and am sticking with this awesome brand.

I haven’t used my recent purchase yet so I can’t review it as I’m still using us my previous bottles I purchased. Something has changed in the formulation I noticed in my previous 2 bottles in the fact that it isn’t the same color as my bottles I purchased before those There isn’t hardly any white product in those and there’s hardly any in the ones I’m using and now on this order it doesn’t look like there’s any, maybe a trace.

The product is a different color from all my previous bottles. I’m just assuming the white stuff is the sea salt and it’s definitely affecting the performance of my hair and not for the better. I still ABSOLUTELY love this product but something has changed I think.

I think I need MORE of the salt. Anyway, I still give it a 5, but keep in mind I haven’t started using this batch yet which is a totally different color. No salt?.

What got me to try this one despite being married and thrilled about the luscious apple cider vinegar shampoo is the review posted about helping someone’s psoriasis. I have seborrheic dermatitis which is just not as bad as psoriasis.

The itching and discomfort that comes with it can be maddening when it flares up. Prescription and medicated shampoos never worked. Plus they are harsh. This shampoo is very conditioning. I have naturally curly thinning hair.

This gives it volume and gives a boost to the curls. My scalp is calm which is most important for me. So I will rotate this with the apple cider vinegar one which has no vinegar smell, just fresh apples.

This one smells like a fresh floral scent. Excellent products and a little goes a long way so worth the price!.

I went to Ulta when I read Biolage was on sale. but was quickly disappointed when I could only but a large bottle of Full Density shampoo and not the conditioner. A clerk assisted me but could not even order it for me.

I was offered a new type of Biolage for thin hair. I purchased it but immediately returned it and decided to buy the single bottle of Full Density shampoo. I know it works on my thin hair. The clerk suggested that I call back every Wednesday when they received their stock to see if the had the conditioner.

I chose correctly. I went home and started searching the internet, and found the conditioner at another retailer close to the Ulta I was at. I hope the Full Density line isn’t being discontinued.

The Shampoo contains 2 PRESERVATIVES, which if I used this product, I WOULD have an allergic reactions to my scalp! Maybe not first time, but over a few hair washes, my scalp eventually would show some reactions like flakiness, red scalp, itchiness that would cause me to scratch scalp frequently causing even sores! My diagnosis regarding reaction to skin preservative was determinned after suddenly, in my late 60’s years of life, began having skin issues to my face.

like redness, flakiness, blister formation, pain. to name just a few symptoms experienced, after using my routine skin face/ hair products. I had no choice but to seek out a dermatologist immediately who first treated all my symptoms with a steroid compound made up by the pharmacist which I had to apply to my skin several times a day; then after two weeks, Dr.

followed up with a ” patch test” which took one week. That test revealed I had become sensitive to products containing the preservatives sited above! I had to cease using ALL product which contained those two ingredients! What surprised me was the huge number of products I had been using almost daily for decades, which I NOW had to avoid, to STOP USING!!!! Not only that, I had to read every ingredient label of a product before buying/using it to verify the preservatives were not in product! Bigger problem was finding skin/hair products that did not contain those preservative ; that alone, became very challenging back TWO DECADES AGO considering those specific ones had NOT yet been acknowledged by companies as being a problem.

Once dermatologist and ” we users who had problems” with named preservatives became more vocal, more and company research labs FINALLY removed them choosing alternative in product development that kept their products safe from bacteria, spoilage, mold formation, etc.

, the reasons preservatives are put in products! Some Brand products have also made the changes, recognizing the sensitivity issues those preservatives caused! But, not all! The 2 sited preservatives STILL REMAIN AS THE MAIN INGREDIENT – PRESERVATIVES in products.

EVEN IN BRAND NAME PRODUCTS SOLD AT QVC!!! JUST READ YOUR INGREDIENT LABELS IF EFFECTED! So, if you get a skin reaction after using any shampoo/skin product immediately after one use or used after a decade, or a day, a week, a month, whatever etc.

I have had the most baby fine, thinnest, flattest hair always and have struggled my entire life with trying to make my hair look good or do anything at all. The last shampoo/conditioner I was using was comparable to BB but had stopped working well & was making my hair feel awful.

I have pretty much almost always used “volumizing” type shampoos and conditioners. After doing a lot of research I started trying BB products, and eventually my entire hair routine became BB products! The Thickening shampoo & conditioner does what it says it will – my hair absolutely looks & feels thicker & feels better than it has in a long time! I’ve been using both for over a year now & have been very happy with them.

I do wish the shampoo lathered a bit more, but I can live without that. One thing I will say is I really love the scent of the conditioner but not so much the shampoo – they’re similar, but quite different – so I wish the shampoo smelled as good as the conditioner! Honestly, my perfect dream BB shampoo & conditioner would work & perform like the Thickening line, but smell more like the Invisible Oil line or the Bond-Building Repair Treatment (which smells better than the Bond-Building shampoo and conditioner).

I use the Thickening shampoo/conditioner 3-4x weekly and use them regularly with BB Prep primer & Don’t Blow It (Fine), + occasional use of BB Does It All, and Pret-A-Powder (powder or spray) for second/third day hair.

Everything just works so beautifully together & I’m very happy with my current routine! (I have tried the Go Big Treatment and the Thickening Spray, but they just weren’t for me & their scents were too much for me.

) One more note – I know BB recommends not using the Thickening shampoo & conditioner for color-treated hair. I think anyone using dark color should probably stay away, but I honestly have had zero problems using it with my color-treated light ash blonde hair (and I use the Sunday Shampoo too with no problems).

I don’t usually write reviews, but this product was so horrible, it deserved a solid one-star. I have medium-fine hair and I generally swear by Olaplex, but lately I’ve been noticing that it makes my hair greasy just 2 days after a wash.

Having preferred sulphate-free shampoos in the past, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to opt for something with a bit of SLS. My hair isn’t damaged or colour treated. Not only did this shampoo NOT lather at all, it coated my hair like melted rubber in the shower.

The smell was weirdly chemical, but I was willing to forgive that. The product also seemed used. i bought it online, and was so sticker securing the shampoo in its bottle, and the bottle has a bit of dirt on it.

I’m hoping it wasn’t tampered with or previously used and returned. The shampoo was bad enough to make me jump back on Sephora and order myself a Kerastase Bain Densite. After hearing about the Bumble and Bumble brand being endorsed left and right for years, I’m sorely disappointed.

I am half way done with the 1st order of shampoo and I am 1/2 way through my 2nd order of the supplements. My hair is definately fuller and your products are bringing great success to growing out hair.

Good. I noticed a very gradual increase in my hair volume, probably because I had been bald for several decades. I definitely am seeing a gradual return of my original hairline. As with all things, time will tell.

I’ve used this product just four times and with the recent use I got some in my right eye, and it burned like hell! I’ve gotten shampoo in my eyes before, but never has it been so painful. I rinsed my eye out, thoroughly, but it did nothing to stop the firey pain.

I couldn’t open my eye all the way, nor could I close it, because the pain was intense either way. I had to keep my eye at a slit for about a half hour. I honestly thought for a moment I might end up blind, because it altered my vision so much, and the pain was excruciating.

My eye was very red and painful, so I had my daughter put eyedrops in, which helped a little. It has now been two hours since getting out of the shower and my eye is still scratchy and irritated; the redness has gone away, but it still feels a bit painful and not able to open it all the way.

I have no idea what is in this shampoo to cause such serious pain in eyes, but I will not be using it again.

I have very fine hair that becomes extremely oily after 24 hours. I have naturally wavy hair with a slight curl also. I have been on the hunt for a new shampoo that actually works for years. Usually I would have to clarify my hair once a week because other shampoos would leave my hair with build up.

This shampoo has been a god send. I noticed immediate results with using it since the first time. My hair feels so clean and soft. A bonus is the amazing smell and my hair actually has volume! This isn’t something I have experience since I have such fine hair.

The volume comes in the greatest when I let my hair air dry. Will repurchase time and time again!.

I can’t say enough about this product line. I went from having my hairdresser spontaneously suggest I start using Rogaine to my youngest son telling me I was going bald to having hair so thick on top you can no longer see the scalp! My family now talks about my badly thinning hair as something that was in the past, like “remember when you were losing your hair?”.

This Thickening Conditioner is great for my thin, straight hair. It gives it just a “little extra” fullness, so my hair doesn’t look so limp. I use it with the Thickening Shampoo for it’s full effect.

I am pleased with this conditioner. I bought it for my husband due to he is thinning out a little and ION is a great brand so I have been buying it for him and he swears it is making the thinning area more full and thick! So if he likes it I love it.

I have fine thin hair and have tried numerous shampoos over the years with no good results, but when I tried this shampoo I was blown out of the park. I will probably never use any other shampoo. Its amazing how thick it makes my hair appear.

Good product however after 2 or 3 uses, the cap (pour spout) on the bottle is totally clogged. So I just pour some right out of the bottle. But most gets wasted. Too bad the pourer on the bottle top doesn’t work better.

Love this shampoo. Generally I don’t use the same shampoo two bottles in a row. However when I started to use this shampoo I instantly fell in love. Smooth silky hair that got healthier, thicker and fuller looking and feeling from this shampoo.

Needless to say as the bottle was running out I was at the store buying the same one for a replacement. Use the shampoo with the conditioner for the best results. Has a great smell and available at a fair price.

I absolutely love all of the Elvive products. I have tried most all of them from Volumizing to Moisturizing to Balancing. I have not had a bad experience with them. The shampoo suds and washes out great.

The conditioner works and rinses out without making my hair feel oily. Most importantly. the scent of these shampoos and conditioners is absolutely fantastic. Clean and fresh. (They should make a body wash!).

I went in to the Aveda store in search of a shampoo to help with my itchy scalp. The salesperson immediately led me to the Aveda Invati products saying they were AMAZING. I told her I used Oribe and loved it but she assured me this product was far superior.

I purchased the whole product line thinking it would live up to her hype and I was sorely disappointed. First of all, it has done nothing to relieve my itchy scalp. Secondly, she didn’t warn me that it doesn’t lather so that was a surprise when I went to use it.

Because it doesn’t lather, it’s really hard to tell which part of your hair has been sufficiently washed so I end up using more and more with no better results. After following it up with the conditioner and drying my hair, my hair still looked unwashed (kind of greasy) and again, my scalp still itched.

I stuck with it for a month and am still unconvinced that this product really does anything at all. I definitely will not purchase again and will return to other products I’ve used from Davines, Oribe, and Kevin Murphy with much better results.

Aveda haircare is generally amazing, but this is a really disappointing product. Being called an exfoliating shampoo I thought it would cleanse my scalp really well and be good for my fine hair. It’s absolutely terrible, despite giving it a good few attempts.

The product feels like putting a light conditioner on my scalp, in fact a couple of times I’ve double checked the bottle again to make sure that I’m actually using the shampoo. I rinse and rinse, but it leaves an oily residue (that can only be washed out with a different shampoo).

The hair is left lank and scalp feels unclean and like it needs a good wash! My hair has to be washed again the next day, usually I can wash it every 3rd day. I imagine this might work for a dry scalp and thick, curly hair, but if you have my hair type any Aveda shampoo will work far better than this, so don’t make an expensive mistake.

I do like the scent of this line. Recommend you trial it first.

This is such a great exfoliating shampoo. The Salicylic acid in the shampoo helps to exfoliate your scalp and remove all the layers of build up product. Once you scalp is free from old debris and is clear it can help to invigorate hair growth.

The scalp can also absorb all the nutrients from other products such as nourishing hair oil and help the hair grow. The scent of this product is amazing. feels like you are in spa , it has a herbal scent with a woody background.

The scent of this product adds to the luxurious experience of using this product. The formulas is thin and the shampoo is yellowish tinge. It lathers so well in my hair and I find it is so concentrated, I do not need a lot of product to lather up.

When I wash my hair , my hair feels squeaky clean. But it does not dry out my hair at all. It leaves my hair with natural volume and my hair smells so nice.

This is a totally fine shampoo; doesn’t really give me any noticeable thickening, but my hair is clean afterwards. What I dislike is the strong “men’s cologne” scent it has. Since my preferred fragrances are all light, breezy florals like Jo Malone Basil & Neroli, or House of Sillage Whispers of Enlightenment, this is a very unpleasant smell for me to deal with.

I am giving it to my son and going back to the unscented products I formerly used.

Most shampoos that promise volumizing are thick and don’t clean the hair well. This product did and without using a lot of it. Hair was so clean that I had to use a conditioner to get a comb through it.

After blow drying out my hair it certainly did look fuller.

the product smells amazing and is such a gorgeous shampoo to display. i have fine hair and an oily scalp, and this product really does thicken my hair. At first, my hair felt a bit dry, but upon blowdrying, I have a lot more volume without frizz!.

So glad when I tried this from Jack Black, I’ve been a long time JB subscriber and wanted to try certain shampoos of theirs and I loved this from day one. The smell is nice, makes my hair feel refreshed and soft but w/ body, no problems with dry scalp, also works great on my beard when i run out of Jack Black beard wash.

The price is fantastic compared to other higher end shampoos. This 16oz bottle last me approximately 8-9 months. True Volume Thickening Shampoo 473Ml/16Oz.

I been using the hair growth & anti hairloss shampoo kit for a month already and I can see a difference, my hair is not falling so much still does but not as much, my hair does not grow so fast ether, I don’t any different still but probably is to soon to notice, but I know my hair feels soft and looks healthier after every wash my hair looks and feels soft and bright.

The smell of the shampoo is not that bad actually I like it because it smells like herbs not like chemicals. You only need a little bit of product, I do use more of there products and let me tell you that I am very happy with them I do recommend them.

This product is getting hard to find. It has a light citrus scent some like and some don’t. I like that the scent is almost non existent as it allows my hair to smell like the finishing products I like to use.

Also, I am very sensitive to fragrance and this leaves my hair and scalp healthy and happy. If you are looking for a fragrant product this is not for you. I love this shampoo. I realised the difference from day 1. My hair falls off less. The days between my hair wash improved from everyday washing (which we all know is super bad for hair) to 2-3 times a week.

It lasts forever. I’m the only one using this shampoo at home (and my friends every now and then), and it lasts about 6 months. Even my friends always compliment the shampoo every time they use it. It leaves your hair a bit dry, so conditioner and some hair cream are musts.

But, before this shampoo, I was still using those products and my hair was getting oily so fast, so it’s working great now. Also, it smells AMAZING. And it’s vegan and cruelty-free which are the main reasons I was looking for a new good shampoo.

I have been using the Intense Thickening Conditioner, along with the shampoo. My hair is, very, very fine and see through. My hair has more volume. My hair is thicker. And, most importantly, my hair is falling out less.

The smell is strong. Like a heavy musk, but I am getting use to it. The benefits are too good to stop using this! A+++.
