Note: this review deals mainly with the gold finish drain. This is the only gold drain with a metal stem on the market and works just like it should. However, it’s priced like it’s got a monopoly on gold drains.

This kit does not come with a bracket to convert a two screw overflow cover to a one screw. You can’t get the bracket separately. Thanks to a very nice sales person at a big box store he took one of the packages apart and gave me the bracket.

Otherwise I think my only option would have been to return this kit and buy another one. So pay attention if you have one screw or two and be sure the bracket is included with your purchase.

Scrape off any excess silicone or dried putty. Wrap a bead of putty just under the lip of the new one and THREAD CAREFULLY before tightening. This was a real challenge in one of my two tubs and took patience to get it right.

If fits and looks better than the old one, but the sink still doesn’t hold water well. It drains out slowly. It could be that the drain opening is uneven or slightly out of round. I can’t find any way to tell tell for sure whether the problem is with the gasket on the stopper or the drain.

I’m updating the shower fixtures so I needed a matching brass drain. This one is very shiny and elegant. It’s well priced and fits perfectly. It is also nicely made and should last a long time. We’ve been having problems with scorpions coming up through the drain lately.

That’s too close to comfort for my wet toes. So, I popped out the old drain out with a butter knife. Then, used the new one as a template and attached window screen to the 2 prongs on the bottom side.

Then, popped it back into place. I realize that chances are I will need to replace it with a new one every couple of weeks or so. But, that’s ok. They’re easy to make and they also prevent issues with hair build up that can clog a drain.

Have used it for two weeks now. Fits great, easy to clean, but mostly it does what it’s supposed to do. lets the water drain while capturing hair. Drawback is it is not a plug, so you have to swap it out for a plug when you want to use the bath instead of shower.

Still, for most people, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. I recommend this product.

I have a regular shrrom I have been using in the tub for several years, working great but gets discolored over time. This one is a more cosmetic version that matches with the faucet, the only difference is a Chrome colored cap that snaps onto the clear colored silicone shroom.

The top diameter of this cap is actually bigger than my previous shroom, so it looks a little out of place. BTW that thin metallic cap snaps off if you are not careful with it, and not so easy to put back on.

It works well but are messy to clean when clogged. The larger two lasts a long time but the smallest one breaks the mesh so fast after only months of use. I would think that the assorted set can come with one each of the larger two and three or five of the smallest one to even up as a whole set.

I use the largest one for my kitchen sink and the medium for my bathtub drain. The smallest one is for my lavatory sink with the push stopper pulled out as useless anymore. I never fill up my lavatory sink anymore as I use a separate plastic dish that fit the shape of the lavatory sink perfectly as it is round , lucky for me.

I wrote this because I cannot find any replacement for the smallest one alone but just assorted or set of the larger ones. They last long time and do not require replacement. The smallest one seems to be of thinnest mesh so it breaks easily.

I had issues with the standard metal (pull up push down) bath plug, so I pulled it out. This is a long hair household, so the drain gets plugged frequently, and it was hard to fish it out around the old plug.

The cylinder on the bottom of this flex plug is smaller than the drain itself, but the wide flap generously covers the area around the drain, so it completely plugs the water during baths. This also makes it easy to pull out & remove hair.

I don’t have a problem with “how difficult it is to remove the hair”. Just take some scissors, remove the hair, clean the plug, and put it back. It’s easy. You push down and pull up the flap in the centre to drain water.

I haven’t had a problem with how quickly the water drains during showers or baths. just clean the hair at the rate you should, and would have to with any other drain plug. It’s been a month, and I haven’t noticed any smells.

This does work as a drain stop but I assumed when the middle part is flipped up the water would drain but it doesn’t. The lower part sits too high so you’re always left with water in your tub. I wanted to buy something I could just leave in the drain but this has to be taken out every time to allow all the water to drain.

Also the part that’s meant to catch hair isn’t sufficient. Most hair goes right through. Works fine as a plug for taking a bath though.

Unfortunately the hair gets tangled in this product and is very hard to remove. I’ve purchased the starfish style before which works a lot better. This product becomes very clogged easily and the tub fills up with water when it should drain.

I would not purchase this again.

I had the opportunity to utilize the Oxo Good Grip Hair Catcher in my master bathroom, as this is the bathroom that my family of four utilizes regularly for bathing and showering. I love that this product is lightweight and simple to use, as it requires you to unscrew existing drain, and pop right in.

This hair catcher comes in two pieces, the portion that sits in the drain and then a removeable component above the drain catch that pops out to remove hair caught in the product. The Oxo Good Grips Hair Catcher truly does work in that it catches lots of hair that would typically go down our drain.

We clean the product out every other day and I am surprised by the amount of hair caught with three women in the house. I love the ease of cleaning and replacing, but do wish that this drain enabled you to hold water for a bath.

Having two young children who bathe daily, we are required to switch back to our suction based drain to hold water. Overall, I would recomment this product to shower users 100x over! If you bathe frequently, may be more convenient options.

We have purchased a house without a stopper in the tub. The OXO Hair Catch Drain base fits in the drain perfectly. It stays in the drain securely. The top can be easily removed to clear out any hair that accumulates.

The unit is perfect for use as long as you use the tub as a shower. In my tub the unit must be removed to put a stopper in for a bath. That is the only drawback to this product. Hopefully OXO will revise this product to include a stopper.

Excellent product but it would be even more attractive is made in the USA – even if it costs a little more.

I needed to order a drain quickly and most of the polished brass drains cost a small fortune. As pictured, the drain is a polished brass. The name of the finish is Bright Brass. When I opened the package, it is actually a bushed brass.

But, I kept it anyway because I needed it quickly and I figured that it wouldn’t be that much of a difference since it will be in the floor, away from the other fixtures.

While purchasing many items from this site, decided on this as drain in remodeling shower. It it a great accent to the porcelain tile purchased. It is easy to remove hair or soap fragments from drain, and also has additional apparatus to remove entire drain to clean out debris.

Have had this for over 6 months and finish looks just as great as the day that plumber installed it.

The finish of this product is beautiful and the fitness once the floor is grated is on pointe. A great detail that shouldn’t be overlooked.

One comment, put the bead of silicone closer to the outside of the under flange than the instructions picture appears to show.

It took a minute or so to get the O ring to slide over the 2″ PVC pipe. Using liquid soap helped. It was really an easy installation – totally from the top, in a new shower tray installation where it was hard to get under it.

It cost more than other drains, but was worth it. I just tested it and seemed to work fine.

I do not know how well this catches hair, I had to throw it away before trying, the smell was unbearable. Before opening the package you can smell the horrible smell. I left it in my basement to air out overnight, as soon as I opened the door to the basement, 12 steps below and 30 feet from the bottom of the stairs, there was the smell.

Threw it out and bought the previous one I had Evriholder and works excellently.

Flimsily made — it really needs to be made from a heavier plastic as it apparently used to be. Yeah the edges curl up letting some hair get underneath. That said the basket does catch hair, the handle is handy, and the hair trap mainly seems to stay put in the drain.

I can’t help but feel there must be something better out there. This company erred when it swapped out the plastic for something cheaper.

A simple, but incredibly good idea. Because of its design, even when it gets filled up with scraps of food, etc. , the water runs right through, down the drain instead of filling up the sink. I don’t know why nobody ever thought of this before.

The black rubber stock in the center, besides working as a convenient handle, also rises up through the scraps while the holes in it provide an escape for water. It works very, very well. So it catches all the scraps, allows the water to run through, has a convenient handle in the center and has a beveled edge around the outer part of the flange so that bits and scraps float right into the cage instead getting hung up on the edge.

For a long time I’ve been very frustrated and disappointed in others that I have bought, some of which were pretty expensive. My only fear is that it feels a little flimsy, so I hope that it holds up.

We have 2 at home with long hair and 1 dad that’s adding some to the drain on a daily basis. Without having some sort of drain cover, it was a constant battle to keep the shower drain flowing. While we have the silicone starfish at home to help with this, when it was time for our daughter to head to college, we chose this OXO drain cover.

Being metal, it is easy to place and clean off as needed and does the job. Believe me, you need this thing in your kids college bathroom because they certainly do not want to be digging down in the drain, pulling out gobs of globs.

I absolutely love this bathtub drain protector. the rubber grips on the side keep it from sliding around the tub and the holes are the perfect size to keep the hair from sliding down it and for enough water flow to go through while you’re still showering.

now if you lose a LOT of hair while you’re showering, you might have to clean it off now and then just to make sure the water will keep draining but once you get it clean it’s amazing, and clearly doing its job!!!!.

I bought this when I moved into a new apartment which didn’t have any drain catchers. Thought this would be a neat little buy, unconventional looking and reviews looked good. After a couple showers I realized that my medium length fine straight hairs, on average 10cm in length give or take, slips right under the umbra starfish hair catcher.

Even if I reposition the star, or press down on the suction. My longer strands of straight hair (greater than 20 cm length) gets caught by the starfish. Ended up switching to a $2 drain catcher at another home supply store – that catches all my hair! TDLR: Don’t use if you have straight fine hairs, this hair catcher won’t catch everything – only the long strands!.

So I’ll admit I bought this more so to match my beach themed shower curtain, as thought it would add a little whimsy to my bath. Now, having really long hair that requires a weekly fishing expedition to yank the hair collection from the drain, I was hopeful this would do the trick to catch the hair.

While I admit I have to push the suction cups firmly into place prior to turning on the water, it really is catching and collecting the hair. Yes, the water is slower to drain, which is to be expected, but if it’s keeping me from the ugly task of pulling strands of icky wet hair from the drain, yay me!.

This is a nice idea for a haircatcher and the blue is a cheerful color. Fine hair still slips through the holes and underneath the edges though, so we have one of those mesh drain protectors that you get from the hardware store underneath the starfish.

Also, if you have a textured tub surface, the suction cups don’t stick very well.
