20 Best Hair Products For Twists (2023 Updated)

I received this product free in exchange for my honest review. I have extremely fine hair that gets weighed down really easily so I am not one to use a whole lot of styling products in my curls generally.

If I am wearing my hair natural i traditionally only use a max of two products, leave in conditioner to detangle and one cream or moose to help with definition. I really enjoyed that I could use this curl cream as a one and done styler and that it fit into my routine seamlessly.

It left my hair feeling soft yet looking defined and did not leave it feeling heavy and full of crunchy product and weighed down like most cream formulations do on my hair type. While I really did enjoy the product I did not personally see my hair doing anything super special or behaving much different than how it does with my current go to products.

If you are unhappy with your current routine and are looking for a good curl cream I would say it’s worth a try but I wouldn’t say run out and buy it if you are looking for something to change your life, this isn’t that.

It is a nice standard performance curl cream that will give you definition and help tame frizz. I did like that it comes with a nice amount of product so it will last me a long time since so little is needed in my hair type.

Unfortunately due to a recent case of COVID-19 and my loss of smell I am unable to comment on the fragrance of this particular product but I really do love that Ouai has released a fragrance free version of this product as well since I normally am not a fan of their products scent as most of them are rather strong and overwhelmingly floral for my preferences.

I really hope more brands start to make fragrance and silicone free products like this more easily available.

Twist and Set Moisture-Rich Twisting Cream does exactly what the name says. Twists, sets, and moisturizes without being greasy! I didn’t feel like I was gunking up or weighing down my hair at all. It really works great to twist with! It’s EXTREMELY nourishing.

Just having it in my hands was moisturizing and felt amazing. I wanted to give this a full 5, as I most likely will purchase again regardless, but the scent is on the manly side. Not as powerful as I found the Keep Shining Oil Mist to be, but still masculine.

It does dissipate after awhile, which is nice. It fades into a much softer scent over time which makes this totally a minor inconvenience during application and the first couple hours. Overall wonder product and the PACKAGING is BEAUTIFUL.

Looks great on the vanity!.

I was excited to try this product but it wasn’t what I was hoping for my hair. The container it is in is cute. I smelled it and the scent was ok. I thought it would be overwhelming but it wasn’t. I can’t handle loud scents so I was concerned.

I liked the thickness of the cream. They work on my hair better. I washed my hair and used my usual leave in conditioner and then followed with this twisting cream and then the dry mist oil. My hair felt soft and moisturized.

I was excited but a couple days later my roots were dry. Usually when I use my other products my hair still has moisture. The length of my hair still had moisture but my roots for some reason didn’t.

So I reapplied and I had to put quite a bit of the product. If I wanted to do mini twist as a protective style with this I wouldn’t be able to keep them in because I would have to take them down to reapply this twisting cream in a day or two.

I really wanted to like this but it’s not enough moisture for my hair.

I love everything about this product. The smell, the texture, the packaging, it’s all great. I used this product to give my daughter a twist out. I don’t do the best twist outs, as the curls are not often tight and don’t look defined, but with this product that changed.

I washed my daughters hair, used the LOC method to moisturize, and then added this twisting cream as I was styling. The finished product was beautiful. The curls were tight. There was no frizz. And the curls had a defined, cute texture.

If you’re looking for a great styling cream, give this product a try.

This is one of the best moisturizers I have come by, it leaves my hair shiny, defined, and my curls look healthier than ever! It pairs well with gel or even by itself. I can easily refresh my curls with just this product alone.

I use it in damp hair and even on dry hair if I’m just refreshing my ends. It was not as thick as many comments made it out to be, I have 3b/c curls and it works on my hair great! It also can be watered down adding water to it as you apply it.

Those using this line should be aware most of these products are made for those with thicker curls/coils. So if you have thinner or wavy hair this may not be the product for you. But hands down the best, definitely an essential to have !.

I use this product faithfully. Starting on Sunday with wash day, I use the Shampoo and follow up with the mask and sit with my heated cap for an hour. I wash out and follow up with the Miracle Repair Leave In Conditioner.

I then twist my hair in sections with this product. I leave it in for a couple days and when I un-twist (using the TGIN miracle repair oil on my twists and fingers first of course) they are AMAZING!! No flakes and super moisturized!!! The definition is unmatched!!! Worth every single cent.

I have 4a hair and my hair is hard to please. It doesn’t like thick oils, like avocado, but it doesn’t take well to Grapeseed oil either. I live in the NE, so I need good moisture during the hard winter months.

Most creams are too light or too heavy, but this one is a game changer for my hair care regime. The texture isn’t hard like natural shea butter, but it moisturizes my hair like it (it has shea in it).

It leaves my hair moisturized and bouncy and it mixes well with other products. I really love this butter cream, fan for life.

I tried this cream a few years ago and didn’t really care for it. It was super moisturizing but just didn’t have the hold I wanted. To be fair, I used it for a wash n go and NOT a twist out. I only do wash n go’s.

However, I decided to pick it up again a few days ago while grabbing my usual holy grails (the hair wash, leave in, and mask from this line). This time, I applied the leave in on damp hair and then waited until my hair was about 85% dry before going in with this cream (on a wash n go).

OMG the definition and hold! Absolutely amazing! I found that my hair has a lot less frizz and requires much less product when applied to nearly dry hair (I’m 3c/4a btw).

I love it and it smells amazing! This product I use on both my daughters hair mine occasionally. It’s a very soft hold. Smooth creamy texture. Applies very easily. I would recommend this product I really like this brands gel for a firmer hold that also does not leave your hair crunchy either.

This was my first time using a curl pudding and it did not let me down! I have curly hair underneath, then wavy, and then straight hair on top so I wasn’t sure what the results would be. I just cut about 6 inches off my hair so this was the 1st time wearing it wavy in a long time and I was really happy with the results.

The only other product I used was a leave in conditioner because I have hard water. PROS: +It is extremely conditioning – would be great for someone with really dry/dehydrated hair (I didn’t need the leave in conditioner after all) +It holds the wave/curl really well – I went four days with my hair like this and I hardly lost any of the wave +It adds volume to your hair +The fragrance is absolutely amazing but isn’t too strong +I think this would work great for people with coily/curly hair +It’s really easy to work with and is the perfect consistency to be able to evenly distribute through your hair +There is a ton of product for the price CONS: -It left my hair feeling wet but I think I used too much of it…It might be a less is more product.

I need to play around with it more -There was a slight cast left (which I expect with any of these products) but I had a hard time scrunching it out Will I continue to use this? Absolutely! Will I recommend to my curly haired friends? Most definitely.

I really love the effect this product had. I have really thick wavy/curly hair and usually if I air dry my hair is so heavy that it straightens out my hair. I apply this after a cream and leave my hair to air dry and it really gives my curls a lot of definition that lasts 2 days! Super happy about that.

It is a little crunchy, but I just put some oil on my hands and scrunch out the crunch. As other reviews mentioned I did notice on day 2 it was a little flaky which made it look like I have dandruff.

It was okay to brush out but slightly annoying and the reason why its only getting 4 stars.

This product was a big “NO” for me. I have 4b/4c hair and have tried other brands of gels that define and moisturize. This product gave ok definition and completely lacked in moisture and luster. By the second day my hair was dry, crispy, and flaky.

I tried this product and the oil gel. Both very disappointing results. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be getting my money again.

I have 3a/b curls. Been straightening for a few years and now back to staying curly. This product isn’t really a gel, it’s more of a cream and even looks like a cream coconut product. I’m not a fan of heaping product in my hair; after watching a few videos, it seems to be the way to go for defined, non-frizzy curls.

I can apply this generously to my hair and there isn’t a weighty or sticky feel once my hair has dried which is great! Its also packed with fruit, flower and nut oils so I’m not worried about applying this generously (or so I feel its generous but this is considering I only ever used to apply a light oil to my hair before) It doesn’t seem to form a strong cast that I’m expecting yet I have had decent results but I’m still playing around with this product and its most likely that after years of straightening, it’s my hair that’s in need of deep treatments to eradicate the frizz once and for all otherwise I do get nice, defined curls from this product.

I’ve also been able to use this on dry hair and been able to finger-coil hair but at this point, you will feel some residue once it’s dried, although it doesn’t show so perhaps regulate the amount used on dry hair.

Its a generous sized tub at a fair price. I personally don’t like the smell of shea or cocoa butters or coconut oil so was afraid of the after effects but had no need to worry. Plus it doesn’t leave a strong smell in your hair either once it’s dried, it’s subtle if anything.

I currently use it with the Cantu Hair Custard. I apply that first to soaking wet hair, then apply the Twist n Lock Gel. They both seem to do the trick. Curls stay for most of the day.

I really like this product. Initially I’m not the one who got it, my fiance bought it first but he wasn’t using it so I wanted to see if it would work for my hair. I washed it and then added the product and then twisted my hair and waited till it dried.

Once it dried then I undid my twists and they were really defined and it wasn’t like crispy or crunchy or anything like that. It smells good and really like defines your curls and makes them nice and bouncy and it doesn’t weigh them down like some products can.

Another time I used it I just wet my hair and then I separated it and added the product with some other oils and let it air dry and it had the same like nice effect. The curls were defined it wasn’t crunchy or weighed down.

I really like this product. So yeah anytime I do a twist out now I used As I am twist defining cream.

I love everything about this product! Leaves my scalp clean but not dried out, my flaky scalp has disappeared and my curls afterwards are defined and coiled! And I love how it suds as you wash it off not on actual application.

Smell is subtle but lovely and sweet. Just wish I had more!.

This defining cream is simply good. That is a fact. Smells mildly like almond oil. Has tons of slip. TONS OF SLIP. Defines curls and moisturized. Will recommend and will buy again. A little goes a long way so the price point works out.

The product is not watery like most defining creams so everything works out in the end cost wise. You will love how your curls look. #goodhairday.

Love this for wash day, especially to plop, scrunch and dry/diffuse. Seemed a little pricey for something I wasn’t sure would work (accidental product junkie here, trial and error I suppose), but this stuff is amazing.

It’s thick and moisturizing which is what my curls need. Hoping to have luck with more of this line although the big poppa gel was a total bust for me, very drying even when I attempted to layer with this creme.

Already on my second jar of creme though so still a win.

I loooove this stuff. Sooo moisturizing and will have those curls POPPIN’! I have 4a/3c hair and it works wonderfully. My friend, who has 4b/4c hair, also said she loves the way it moisturizes and softens her hair.

You get a generous amount of product for the money too (16 oz)! It also smells divine! If anyone out there has ever tried the Blueberry Pie candle from Bath.

I found one of my favorite go to products. It smells to rich and good. I have high porosity hair and this is perfect for it. It leaves it feeling extremely moisturized. It also gives me the perfect twist.

It’s the best. I’ve had so many problems with stuff to hold my hair. But this Loc N os the truth. My ponytail been whipping for 3 day. And i haven’t had to brush it back up or fix my edges. #TeamNatural!.

This is the best edge control twist gel by far!!! My bun was smooth for like 3days, it’s so sticky and lays the hair down instantly. Loc N is definitely worth the price.

So far so good, my new growth has stayed together all during the day and at night , little bit of water on the new growth and gel helps and little bit goes a long way but it looks black but it is clear.

I really like this gel to be honest. It’s the first I’ve used that doesn’t give a lot of buildup, doesn’t flake, doesn’t leave your hair feeling like hardened bread (unlike most actually) and most importantly, Leaves your hair looking naturally and effortlessly styled!.

It’s nice. All you have to do is apply it, brush it down and then boom! You’re done. BUT it also does something else. It ITCHES! Terribly. Since i bought this gel (which is my first time of buying it) I’ve had so much discomfort that I’ve had to wash my hair twice this week (i don’t usually do this since my hair needs it’s natural oils) but each time i apply it, it just itches the hell outta my head till i wash it off! I love the look it gives, i love how Easy it is to apply it but I’m not going to exchange my comfort for some gel.

Nope. I just don’t think it’s worth it. For those who were wondering, yes, i always started with freshly washed hair. It just was the same everytime.

This is a large jar. This is a must-have product for me. I have 3a hair, fine, easily frizzed, hard to manage, shoulder-length, dark brown and white mixed. The white hair is a different texture, so that makes it even harder to get a good controlled curl/wave.

This product is amazing. I use it on wet or dry hair, usually once my hair is almost styled. Smell is a fresh, pleasant citrus floral. Lasts a long time. Love this. Economical. Please, don’t stop making this.

I wasn’t sure about this when I first used it on my curly hair. I figured it would leave my hair very stiff like a lot of gels, which this has a runny gel consistency. It smells like the islands, but not too harsh.

It reminds me of summer, and suntan lotions. It left my hair shiney, hydrated, and still held, just not a hard hold. It left my hair soft, and manageable; free flowing in appearance, yet controlled. It’s normally around $6.

A little goes a long way, so it’s a good buy.

I use this when I am doing a retwist or refreshing my clients natural locs. Sometimes I do use this when I am styling natural hair and doing twist outs however it does depend on the hair type of the client.

I do find that Cantu products work very well on type 3 High porosity hair but need to be combined using the loc method on 4A and 4B hair. I have not had much success using this product on its own on 4B or 4C hair.

This has a sweet smell that is very subtle after being set under a dryer and it is a light gel which is good for retwist and touch-ups.

I don’t know why but every time I use this in my daughter’s hair it dries really bad. It locks up or mats. My daughter‘s father is mixed so her hair texture is usually softer. Now her hair looks like a dried up perm.

I figured this out after using this three different days in a week, adding purified water to her hair before applying. At least now I figured out what product was doing it. I myself have used the Rosemary growth oil.

And nothing happened after the whole bottle. My edges broke more! Some products aren’t for everyone. This has REALLY taught me to make my own oils and just stick to the old-school products. “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.

I love this product! It doesn’t have an overwhelming odor either. It is very creamy, and not really thick. I use it along with the sweet almond cream when styling my hair. A little bit goes a long way so be mindful.

I wish it was more holding instead of having to use with a gel. Luckily it plays nice with my Ecostyler gel.

This is a nice, thick butter for the winter. It didn’t provide the hold I was looking for and my hair got frizzy when it was humid. It’s best to use this product with a gel.

Very good for my low porosity 3c/4a colored hair. I used this product alone for a twist out which lasted me for 5 days and stayed shiny and defined my curls. Love it!

I love this product, specifically when braiding. I love to add a little protein gel, or egde control gel to each parted section of my hair, prior to starting my Ghana cornrow braids. So when I stumbled upon this product, I had to give it a try and loved it.

It provided added moisture and sheen and just really helped my braids look really good and tamed. Atfer completing my braids, they looked so neat.

I love this twist cream . It moisturizes and defines very well. My hair is thin and tightly coiled so twist outs are hard to achieve but using this product on my dry hair leaves great results.

This product surprised me when I used it for a twist or braid out. When I took it down the definition was like none other. I have never had a twist cream that reacted well with other products such as gel and oil and didn’t flake up and also gave such a strong hold.

This product smells great and is very affordable and I recommend this for curly and coarse hair types.

This product didn’t seem to have any effect that it claimed on hair at all. I think maybe there’s a slight reduction in frizz from what I can tell. Waves were less defined than normal. Even with adding a wave spray to try to help, there was nothing.

I’m confused since it’s so lightweight but maybe it weighs down certain hair types. The other issue is that it has a strong metallic smell. If you’re bothered by metallic scents, it’s very unpleasant when applied but goes away within 30 minutes.

I guess if you enjoy the product, the benefit is that it comes in a pretty large tube. You’ll have a good value product. I received this complimentary from Scotch Porter.

I have only used this product twice so far and I haven’t really figured out the exact amount or portion that is good for my hair and it’s length. I tried using it on my hair after a shower when my hair is wet.

It is suppose to be a leave in treatment but my hair almost looks like it had shampoo in it (white looking). Next time I used it after a shower but, I tried my hair lightly with a micro-fiber towel. Still the same results.

But I will admit, even though I am not sure I am using the right amount (maybe too much) my hair still looks good.

the shampoo and conditioner were excellent. thick and rich and full of moisture. my hair was wavy and defined after the shampoo and conditioner. The leave in was thick and creamy and I didn’t need much.

I followed with the serum, but i didn’t care for the balm. my hair is so dry I prefer oils and grease like blue magic. But other than that the best products I’ve had for my type hair. I have shared it with my beautician and with my daughter.

I just loved the way the men’s hair looks in your advertisements. I wanted the same for my hair.
