20 Best Hair Products For Kids (2023 Updated)

My son has very kinky, curly hair and as anyone with that hair type knows – you cannot brush it out when it’s dry. It has to be wet or damp. So, it would take me about 30 – 40 mins to give him a bath.

30 mins of literally brushing his hair out. (He has 3a curls) But I got this detangler today so I skipped brushing his hair out during his bath and immediately put this in once he was out and dressed.

Oh my god, this is such a lifesaver! I sprayed about 5 spritz all over his head and went to work. Literally within 5 mins, his hair was knot free and so much softer than without it! It also didn’t disrupt or mess with his curl pattern, which was something I was really worried about considering I love his curls.

My back and hands are grateful for this detangler! I highly recommend it.

This is thee best detangler I have ever used. My girls have really thick curly Polynesian hair and they would cry every time I had to comb their hair. Ever since getting this I no longer get resistance from them.

All it takes is 3-5 pumps for half the head and literally within the next 2/3 glides of the brush it will magically detangle. We call it “The Magic Spray” haha because it really works in a pinch. Hopefully this won’t sell out or I will have to resort to Google to hunt it down.

My little girl is 2 and has ringlet curls with the back always being so tangled and a little coarser that the rest I assume where she lays down. I wanted a really deep conditioning treatment for curly hair and this was the one I came across time and time again.

It smells delightful and is lovely and thick but I find it quite hard to wash out. My daughter doesn’t like her hair being washed because of water getting in her eyes so I have to wash it by hand with a jug and I think this makes a huge difference in it not being washed out easily so bear this in mind.

If you shower it off I think you’d be absolutely fine.

LOVE this product for my toddlers curly hair. You can feel how nice it is as soon as you lather it up and the smell is 10/10. My daughters natural curls have been struggling and there’s a spot in the back of her head that’s a rats nest from the way she sleeps.

This product made a huge difference immediately, I’m so glad I can quit buying all these random kids leave in conditioners and trying new shampoos/conditioners. This is it for us. The smell is also nice for adults, not some weird fruity kid smell.

My tip is buying the set and then switching the lids from the shampoo/conditioner. The cap from this easily dispenses conditioner and the pump from the conditioner works better on the shampoo.

This product is absolutely amazing. Six months ago before I started this product my five year old son still had a little bald spot in the back of his head from when he was a baby that would not seem to grow.

Not only has his hair filled in the spot but every day when styling his curly Afro his hair stays in place and when I pick him up from school his hair is not dry and it looks and smells so good. I have a 19-year-old daughter and an 8 year-old daughter and because of the amazing results sometimes I use it on their edges too and just called them royal queens.

Their dad has dreadlocks and I grease/ moisturizer his hair with it as well and we are seeing the same results. Every time I go to Walmart or target I am having conversations with mothers with biracial and African-American children and expressing to them how wonderful the product is.

Most times they are so amazed with my experience they walk out with at least one or two bottles of the product. I really wish that all the products were in Walmart or target but I am Ok with buying the shampoo and conditioner online and getting the other products at Walmart or target.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THE FORMULA. It has taken me years to find a combination of products that work on my hair and do not irritate my scalp. And I have found it all in one line. I initially purchased the Curling cream for my son, it works beautifully on his 4a curls the leave in not so much.

I ran out of my hair care product that did good enough but I was always looking for something better. I have 3c hair and the Curling cream was the first I tried. OMG my curls were soft not crunchy or hard, not frizzy after air drying or using a hairdryer.

I just recently tried the leave-in afraid that it would irritate my scalp. EVERYTHING irritates my scalp EXCEPT THIS. The bottle is a small issue if you promise to not change this formula you can leave the bottle the same and I will continue to transfer the product to another spray bottle that is not a big issue to me.

My son is bi-racial and has course, kinky curls. I found this product and loved it immediately. I use a whole regimen of products to keep his curls looking good. The conditioner and leave in conditioner are definitely what I use most frequently but I do combine them with the shampoo, oil and curl cream.

This combination provides looser hydrated curls. If we go for a tighter curl, I replace the curl cream with the mousse. Love them all!.

This was honestly my go to for my baby even till today. My baby had light to med thick hair and small curls so I needed something to help me manage with her hair, but something gentle as she was a baby at the time.

Smells SO good but not too much and it didn’t feel like it was damaging my child’s curls or weighing it down, non flaky too! it’s not a super hold gel but it’s enough to get the hairstyle you want to do.

Perfect for babies, mine is now 3 yrs old and I still use it when I want something lightweight. Pricing is eh, not complaining but could be better lol I would recommend this product :).

My son uses this custard to style his hair. He runs it through his hair, to get it to lay down. He likes how well it works and it doesn’t create any flakes. I like that it’s not overly scented. Another reason I like this product is because it does not contain sulfates, glutens, parabens or mineral oil.

I bought Cantu shampoo and nourishing Condition. After washing their hair with the Cantu shampoo I got all the water out and applied the Cantu Nourishing Conditioner. I left it in for 5 minutes and rinsed it out.

My kids have thick hair and brushing their hair feels like a chore. So I was truly surprised how easy it was to brush their hair out. I also couldn’t believe how soft and luxurious their hair felt when it dried.

This is truly a great product and I would highly recommend it.

Wanted to like this shampoo for my kids but it was just ok. And the fragrance in the batch I got was basically non-existent such that the chemical odor of the base formula came through. The pump package is convenient, but I don’t plan to repurchase.

I stayed sway from this product due to the name. It felt weird and gimmicky as a black girl and the product description mentions the different hair types it works on and in my experience what works for straight hair does not work for curly hair.

Then one day I was broke and Camille rose honey leave in was too expensive and the smell was becoming a lot by that point so I grabbed a bottle of this and wow. Moisture galore, curls galore, saved some money galore.

Now not the cheapest leave in, it does work and that’s what I value. Not to scent heavy and idk why but the color and texture make me happy weird. Still feel weird about the name but what can you do right?.

I have used this product on and off in my hair. It isn’t a staple product for me, as I find it to be decent, but I do think that it is overpriced, for it being filled with the same ingredients that can readily be found in much cheaper products in the drugstores.

Now, I was led towards trying this product after I had tried the original leave in conditioner that they had come out with. I found the smell to that product to not be quite pleasant, so because this version is fragrance free, that’s what led me towards trying it.

This product isn’t very moisturizing, as my hair doesn’t feel moisturized after I use it, but it does give pretty decent hold to the hair. I have fine textured? wavy hair that is naturally very dry and of low density.

I am able to use this product to refresh my hair with, when using this product, As, using water to refresh my hair with is an absolute no-no for me. And, when it comes to this product and it providing my hair with a lot of curl enhancing, I don’t beg that with this product.

However, most products labeled being fit curly hair doesn’t leave my wavy hair looking a lot more defined anyways, so I am totally fine with that. The most they I expect from a product is for it to naturally enhance my hair, not change it curl looking wise in a major way, because for me to get a lot of curl definition and volume with this product, I’d have to use a blow dryer with it everytime I use it, and I’m someone who doesn’t desire to do such.

Now in terms of this product providing much greater curl elongation, I don’t notice that with this product. However, I don’t suffer with major shrinkage issues, all hail to the infamous Denman rush for that.

I have never got any frizz from using this product. However, I must stress that I only experience frozzinrss to my hair if a product just doesn’t agree best with my hair at all. Oh, and this product can be used by both kids and adults alike.

I do think this product is fairly okay overall. But, because I know experiences with products can vary greatly, I highly recommend getting a sample size of this product first on the Mixed Chicks website.

Oh, and Mixed Chicks products can be used by all races and genders. No two people have the same type of hair, so the most important thing that one can do is pray for the best with this product and hope that you get It.

My go to leave in. Blends in smoothly and my hair soaks up this product. What needs to be improved is the smell of this product because it’s underwhelming. Also sometimes the product can leave my curls crunchy if I don’t follow up with a smoothing styling cream or an oil.

Other than that I find that these are small sacrifices based off the other leave-in conditioners that are on the market that will sometimes leave my hair with lots of residue or no moisturized. My hair retains moisture with Mixed Chicks and shine!.

The set worked great for my little one’s hair. The shampoo brought life back to the natural curls almost immediately! The smell was citrusy at first and mellowed out in to a mild musk scent. I enjoyed the scent well after the wash was complete.

I realized once we started rinsing out the shampoo that less is more. The conditioner did great, I did not hear one complaint when using my fingers to de-tangle the hair. I started using this when my daughter was about a 1. 5yo and her hair seemed dry from regular baby shampoos (with spray in conditioner). We’ve used for past 1. 5 years. She has fine but curly hair and this is great for her hair.

I will echo others’ reviews, in that it is thick and could be difficult to wash out in some cases. In general though, if your kiddo’s hair seems dry from regular shampoos and you need extra conditioner.

It makes her hair SO much easier to comb out as otherwise it quickly turns to knotty dreadlocks.

The smell is light but pleasant. Lots of kids stuff is cotton candy or blue raspberry and smells super strong but I really enjoy the smell of this! His curls stay tighter longer and don’t seem to tangle as much.

Made my baby’s curls fall almost completely flat!! Tried it several times over different days, even with different shampoos and the common denominator for flat hair days has been this. I’m soooo disappointed because I was extremely excited and encouraged by all of the positive reviews.

It not only did absolutely nothing to define his curls, it weighed them down and made them look greasy. Somehow also makes his hair frizz more at the same time. Worst product I’ve ever used on any of my kids.

I was so excited for a baby friendly version of a product like this but it did NOT work out at all.

The main ingredient is Cocamidopropyl Betaine according to the label on the bottle. I do not understand why ULTA doesn’t provide photos of the ingredient labels on the packaging, rather than providing incomplete ingredient lists as part of the product description.

3 stars even though Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a common allergen that is in nearly every shampoo on the market, but if you aren’t allergic to it the product may work fine for you. My main gripe is with the inaccurate website description of this and other products that frequently get my hopes up about (purportedly) coconut-free products which I only discover have allergens once they are delivered.

ULTA’s return policy is the only thing that saves them, but it’s still a pain to take the time to go into the store and a disappointment when the product turns out to be different than described.

I’ve used the Fairy tales repel detangling spray but never the shampoos or conditioners. I am so mad I waited this long I bought the curly Q line for my 4 YO who has the most beautiful long super tight curly hair.

I was using baby dove but her curls needed life and I didn’t want to use anything too strong/ as a hairstylist it’s important for my daughter’s hair to look beautiful naturally while helping the integrity of her hair.

I put this on her while shampooing she kept telling me she loved the smell of the shampoo and the conditioner. I washed it off and it lathers beautiful a little goes a long way just add more water to create foam.

I then added the conditioner as I always do I left it on during her bath time bc she loves to sit and play for 20-30 minutes sometimes. After washing the conditioner off I let her hair air fry and let me tell you her hair had shine without me needing to add the hair serums I normally put to add shine so knowing that just the shampoo and conditioner does that for her I’m using this for life and with my daughter who’s currently in my belly.

My daughter (toddler) has wavy curly hair in the back that would turn into what we called a “rats nest” I’d wash her hair at night and by the middle of the next day her hair would look died out and was very knotted.

I grabbed the curly q shampoo and conditioner and fell in love! I can go two days without washing her hair now. Her curls look hydrated and are super soft! I’ve used it in my other kids who have straight hair and their hair comes out super soft. It does have a strong scent to it, but it is a very pleasant one. I recommend using their detangler as well in combination with the shampoo and conditioner.

I got this product for my daughter, who has some pretty good dandruff. I’ve used other products (even more “natural†ones) and they always give her a rash all over her body, it’s always difficult to find the right products for her delicate skin.

I love this product for my white and black mixed son with curly textured hair….it does leave hair kind of dry so add a lil conditioner at the end and your good to go .

This doesn’t leave your hair “crunchy” or “hard” like any other would! I have curly hair when it comes to finding something that works with your hair may be a little difficult. I was very surprised at how it left my hair! It is so effective! A little goes a long way! So I definitely recommend for you to try it if you’re looking for a gel for curly hair! Best hair product I have ever tried.

I use it every day. It has a nice soft scent. It’s very effective. It makes your hair stay in place all day, but when you brush it, your hair Becomes Soft and the best part is that it doesn’t flake like other hair gels do.

I have been using Mixed Chicks products for a few years now for my daughter. I researched for a while for something like this and I will not use any other hair product on my daughters curly hair! It is great! I like the fact that it is for any type of curly hair.

I also recommend their conditioner and leave-in conditioner. The products leave my daughter hair so smooth and frizz free. She is always gets compliments and I can assure that it is because of the Mixed Chicks products.

This product was recommended by a friend who is mixed, whose husband is mixed, and therefore whose 2 tween and teen girls are mixed. My LO is also mixed, 2-almost 3, and plays with her hair for comfort.

She comes home almost every day with one dreadlock in the making. I have tried detanglers, pink hair lotion, even baby oil none worked the wonders that MIXED CHICK products work. If the knot is extremely bad I slather on the leave-in conditioner on dry hair before I throw her in the bath.

By the time I soap her down and get to her hair I am usually able to just pull the knot out. If not, I shampoo and condition with MIXED CHICKS, and apply leave-in conditioner one more time. That has so far always worked.

I recently bought two bottles online because my local store didn’t have it in stock and Shea Moisture has a habit of introducing great products and then discontinuing them.

I never leave reviews. At all, it’s tedious but this right here is so awesome!!!! I just have to gush about it. I’ve been using this for about 2+ years and it has helped my hair so much!!! I have wavy hair and recently went back to my blonde balayage (used to be dark brunette).

I used like 2 products to help me detangle my brittle hair after every wash and this one by far has been THEE BEST one I’ve used. It leaves my hair very soft so that I can comb through it. It seems like it untangles my knots LOL I spray it on after I wash my hair without fail.

I brought this for my little boy. Having a mixed race child with a different hair texture to myself I found it hard to know how to look after and treat his curls. This product is very reasonably priced and quality is good! At first I found I used too much as a little of this can go a long way but once I got the hang of it his curls have never looked better and all frizziness was taken away.

Oh and a plus his hair always smells amazing! Before and after photos included to see the difference.

The only thing reminiscent of “coconut milk” in this product is the aroma. The liquid is a clear gel, akin to hand soap. My 7yo daughter has very fine, dirty blond hair with large curls. Her hair needs light hydration that will prevent her fine hair from breaking but won’t weigh it down.

I hoped this product would do the trick, but it sadly disappointed. Fresh Monster Kids 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner stripped her hair of its natural oils and left it feeling brittle and tangled. It did not live up to its claim of being “gentle” on her hair at all.

It did not condition but rather left her hair hard to brush and feeling more tangled than if we’d just washed with water alone. Since I paid for it, I attempted to use it for a while, but tonight I poured the remaining product in the sink and recycled the bottle.

This is a great product for my son who hates staying in the shower too long on hair wash days, especially when he has to switch from shampoo to conditioner. This 2 in 1 helps him to get his hair shampooed and conditioned at the same time and he’s loving the duality.

He’s a big fan of the coconut scent and always ask me to smell his hair after wash. It’s cute lol I’ve noticed that this his dry hair looks more healthy since we’ve made the switch to this. Can’t wait to try the other scents.

We also love the fresh coconut scent and the fact that it’s free of harsh chemicals and gentle on eyes — another win for a kid who’s just figuring out the hair washing on his own. I only wish I came in a bigger bottle, but still 5 stars from me.
