20 Best Hair Gel For Kids (2023 Updated)

Hoped for something with better ingredients than some mainstream gels that would be useful with damp hair, when hairspray isn’t useful. This does the trick for my 60+ year old texture, baby fine- (think walking through a spider web) fine when the wind blows hair in your eyes.

With this, styling my shoulder length hair is easy. I can capture wispy, fly away. I can put my hair up. Great product!.

My tween daughter recently asked for a pixie cut hair style and this gel is the perfect companion to her new do! It holds and gives just the right amount of texture without looking greasy or stiff, and I love the fact that it’s alcohol-free and hypoallergenic.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve repurchased this. Maybe 3-4 times? It’s an excellent option if you want a “one-and-done” product, and you’re not interested in layering multiple products into your hair.

The texture is interesting – it’s somewhere between a cream/oil/gel. When it comes out of the tube, it’s a somewhat thick, white cream, but there is definitely a tackiness to it. I emulsify it between my hands with a drop or so of water, and the cream becomes more spreadable and “oily” (not in a bad way).

I work it through my wet hair after washing and it dries down with a very slight cast. Once I scrunch that cast out after letting it dry, the hair stays soft and touchable. It doesn’t feel like I have product in my hair at all, but it defines my curls and holds frizz at bay.

For me, this product truly shines as a refreshing product. On day 3+, I emulsify the tiniest amount between my hands with water, and glide it over my dry hair, scrunching lightly. It gives you another day or so out of your style.

I would recommend this if you have wavy/curly hair which is easily weighed down, and if you don’t like using multiple styling products.

I put this in my hair as a finishing set before I use the diffuser ( I also put a heat protectant, small bit of oil, root lifter) and diffuse. Doesn’t weigh it down. My hair is full, but this takes the frizz off and gives it that day at the beach, sea salt look.

Perfect ” I didn’t try too hard” texture to the diffuser curl. I wet it slightly again for a few days, use diffuser again, same look. Love it. I use quarter amount? Mid length down on long hair.

I finally have my routine perfected thanks to this amazing product! I’ve used mistress for a long time but always felt like something was missing. I hate blow drying my hair and wanted that fuller “wavy” look and this does the trick.

After a shower I apply IGK Mistress like always and let my hair air dry for a little while then I apply Rich Kid. It’s the perfect combination for what I want. I can’t believe I didn’t try this sooner.

My only critique is I wish the smell wasn’t so strong. I only wash my hair every 2-3 days if I can help it and I can still smell this on day 3. I just wish it smelled more like Mistress. It’s kind of a musky scent.

No coconut at all which I would have loved. It’s a small price to pay for days of gorgeous hair though!.

I really like using this Suave Kids Styling Gel for my son’s curly hair. This product makes it alot easier to style his hair or just simply putting his back. It also makes his curls looks good and it smells very good my son liked it also.

I picked up Suave Kids styling gel to use on my two year old sons hair. My son has thick, curly hair and I needed something that would keep the curls in place without giving that crisp look other gels tend to give.

This gel has been wonderful and I’m now on my third bottle. It goes on creamy and keeps the hair style you choose in place. The gel does not leave a crispy or hard feel to the hair. This gel is wonderful.

Amazing product. Leaves hair nice for kids. And doesn’t leave clumps. This product has great packaging as well.

I’ve been using this product for about three years now. I love how it holds my hair, leaves me with a sleek finished look, and isn’t greasy or flaky. Also, this products ingredients work well with my skin unlike other brands with similar products that have gave me bad reactions to my skin.

My only suggestion is to have a larger jar for this product. I’ve only been able to get it in 5 oz. It’s also hard to find in Detroit and surrounding area so I ordered 12 of these from ORS to make sure I’m also able to have it.

I don’t know what the other reviewers like about this product, but this is not smooth to spread on the hair. It leaves a white film and that really ticks me off after it’s been washed. I have tried it on myself and my daughter.

I braid alot, so this product is very helpful. It really does smooth down the hair, and makes the braids last longer. I can no longer find this product at my local beauty supply stores. Thankfully i found it on Amazon, so i stocked up.

Good product! Smells amazing. After I apply to my sons hair I can’t stop enjoying the smell. It definitely doesn’t hold long term, but I am happy enough! One thing that helps is if I wet my fingers, squeeze out product, rub between fingers, then apply.

The water makes it hold a bit better! Overall love it and will buy again.

I had used Jessicurl in the past and stopped out of curiousity of trying other products. Even though this line was created by a curly who is Caucasian, she created it with all curltypes and races and genders in mind.

I recently went back to using this product. I use it as my stand alone styler, because even though I’ve come across some really good gels, I want my hair to be able to have more gold to it than just 1 day and with this product, I can get that.

It just doesn’t work the best for me when I combine it with any of Jessicurl’s other stylers, but that’s okay, because I am mainly a one and done type of gal at this time anyways. This product can be used on both wet and dry hair.

This product simply enhances the naturally wavy curl pattern which I have. To get a lot of curl definition and major volume with this product, you would need to use a diffuser and i am mainly an an air dry gal, so I am okay with how my hair comes out after using this product.

yes, it does give a strong hold, as well as a level of shine to my hair. It also leaves my hair frizz free all day as well. This product does have alcohol listed as one of the ingredients, but it’s actually a naturally occurring component of one of the polyquats that they add to this product.

I have it in the fragrance free version and there is basically no smell to this product at all. When he’s to quickly refresh my hair in the mornings, I use the hair spray in their line. I only have to use a little bit of that, and I am telling you, my hair will hold up through any condition.

The products from Jessicurl are on the pricey side, but what is great is that they allow for you to get a ton of free samples of the different products that they offer just to see what works best for your individual hair needs, before possibly investing in the regular sizes instead.

Which is always the best way to start when trying any line for the best time. Oh, and the consistency of this gel is thin but not runny. It also doesn’t cause any flaking either or take a very long time to dry in ones hair at all.

This product for some people may work well as just a one and done product and for others, it may work best in conjunction with another product or product in your hair that you personally desire. This gel is glycerin free which is good, because you can basically use it all year round with no problems.

Even though I had stepped away from using strong gold styling gel for quite some time, I got to admit, I did choose to go back to this one. because I find that I can get a fantastic hold to my hair that lasts more than one day, because I got to admit, I don!5 wash my hair in a very frequent basis, as I try to wash my hair at least every 5-7 days, so I got to have a styling gel that I can depend upon that keep my hair looking perfect for an extended period of days without major maintenance.

Also, their hair spray is alcohol free is a great, quick and easy product to use to refresh your hair with and give it some more added hold and frizz protection to keep your hair looking good no matter how stormy and hot and very humid or on the flip side, no matter how cold and windy it gets neither this gel or hairspray by Jessicurl ever disappoints.

I originally got these products because they offered free samples and fragrance free since I have horrible allergies. I have been using the products since October 2021. I have had issues with the Gentle cleanse shampoo drying my hair into a clump after using it.

I was washing every night now I don’t wash, but every other day or every 2 days. It seems to help more. I do love the products and the more I use them the better my hair is looking. My reason for the 3 stars is the shipping is awful! I purchased over $100 for my products and paid $30 for shipping for 2 days.

It didn’t get here for 6 days. I have written 2 complaint emails and called the number to complain. If you can’t guarantee 2 day shipping why offer it?! I can read that it says it takes longer for shipping, but this was air shipping and 2 days not ground.

As far as their customer service goes it stinks! The hair care products are good though. Glad to see they sell them on Amazon. I know I can get them faster then 7 days thru them. So, now I will order thru them.

everything jessicurl i’ve used so far has been amazing! I use this paired with the rocking ringlets and they work well together for my hair. I don’t use a whole lot of either one when I pair them but they pair perfectly together for the perfect hold! doesn’t leave your hair crunchy either, and if you do put a little too much where your hair is too “crunchy” the amazing thing about these products is you can crunch the cast it leaves right off, leaving your hair perfectly curly with a soft silky feeling!.

I can’t count how many times a day my daughter brushes her hair she always has bed head! She gets so upset because she does brush it but it just takes a second of sitting in her chair or lying on her bed for her hair to look like a mess all over again! We tried the Cantu Care for Kids Styling Gel, Control and Go with Shea and Cocoa Butter on her hair (just a little bit) and her hair never had that crazy bed head look again! I love it because my heart broke every time she swore she brushed her hair and it never looked like it, just seeing the frustrated look on her face was too much! Now, when she brushes her hair, I put a smidge of this product throughout her hair all that I see is smiles! Feeling so thankful for finding this styling gel made specifically for kids!.

I have been looking for a gel to use on my 3 year old son’s hair. He has pretty thick hair (Caucasian) and I just can’t seem to find anything that will keep the hold. Im really impressed with this brand and how it holds up.

The smell is awesome. Kind of citrus but not overpowering. It just takes a little bit to make it work. I wet his hair and then get a tiny amount and rub it in my hands and apply to his hair. It absorbs well and doesn’t leave white streaks in his hair.

It gives it a little bit of a crunch hold but still looks natural. I will definitely be using other products by this brand.

This Cantu Styling Gel smells amazing! It works well to hold hair in place without being crunchy. The hair is still touchable and feels moisturized. There is no flaking off during the day. I like that it is free from sulfates, phthalates, parabens and mineral oil.

The packaging is fun and cute looking. Every time I open it, it makes me think of a vacation. It smells fresh and tropical. I appreciate that this is a cruelty free item. I will continue to use this for a long time and would recommend this to others looking for a great styling gel.

I have used Miracle Creme on my daughter’s hair since she was a 2 year old. She has naturally curly hair. She is now 8 and after trying several other hair products, Miracle Creme is still the best product for her hair.

It adds moisture and shine. This may not work on every girl’s hair. But it’s fantastic for my daughter’s hair. I order this online because Walmart no longer sells it in the store.

It was not that great at keeping my daughters flyaway hairs in place. It has a nice scent but it’s not long lasting. I would love it if it had a better longer lasting hold to it. I was very disappointed with this product.

I received this product for FREE from Influenster and Shea Moisture in exchange for my honest review. This kids stying gel is very gentle and perfect for kids. It is said to contain coconut oil, hibiscus 🌺 flower and shea butter and claims to define and hold thick, curly hair.

My daughters have thick, kinky curly hair, type 4c and 4b so I was very excited to try it. I started out with dry hair, which was then lightly spritzed with water at the roots to dampen. Then, I applied the product around the perimeter in order to put all the hair in a ponytail.

This product definitely won in most areas, but also fell a bit short in others. Overall, I like it for quick styles. My daughter’s and my hair is naturally curly. As with most curly haired people, we tend to have alot of fly away hairs. It has nice light holding. But I also noticed that it can be flaky and leave a bit of residue.

This was apparent after our 1st use. I thought maybe I used too much. The next day, I used less and didn’t have as much residue, but it did leave some. I’m really critical of our hair having a natural appearance, so I may be a bit more critical than the average person.

It has a pleasant coconut scent that’s present during application, but doesn’t linger. This is a definite plus. The texture is thick but easy to apply. A little goes along way. Holds up throughout the day.

The top part of the container arrived open, and spilled out. I didn’t realize it until I tried to open the cap and squeeze some out and that’s when I noticed the gel come out from the top. I tried to use what came out.

It goes on easily. It does flake once dried. Will not be purchasing again.

My 6 year old is obsessed with Star wars so of course we bought this because of the packaging! I really like using it though, its good quality for the cheaper price. The scent is nice and it doesn’t leave flakes in hair.

This thick sticky gel does what it’s meant to do. It’s priced well and my kid uses it. Honestly that’s all a mom can asked. As a former hairdresser, I prefer better ingredients but my kids likes it. That is really what it comes down to.

I ordered several of the products and when my products arrived, not only was there a massive amount of packing paper, I’m telling you these products weren’t moving around in that box 🤣, the presentation was beautiful, the smell was exquisite, and the results once I put them in my granddaughter’s hair was on point as advertised.

This gel is light but effective and holds her hair in place while adding a wavy texture as well. We are so happy to finally find products tha works for our hair type and it just feels right. Thank you and the best to you.

I had been on the hunt for finding a product that would work for both my hair( 4c) and my son ‘s hair (4c). His hair is slightly more coarse than mine. I love that the product can easily be applied without stickiness and leaves no residue, moisturizes, creates a soft hold and smells very pleasant.

I have also found that adding a little water to your hair for the next day will reactivate the product. I love that it is also price friendly. I bought the soufflé and the gelle for 7. 99 a piece at my local hairstore.

Pros: The product is very good. My daughter has very thick curly hair, and it makes it a lot easier to comb through with water. I get done with her hair so much quicker than I used to using other products.

It also lays her hair down very finely which I LOVE. Cons: It does leave a residue if you keep adding product I’d say over 3 days,but at that time baby’s hair is due for a wash anyway. If baby has curly hair in an upward style some strands may still come down,as babies do love to move their heads in car seats lol.

Nothing major, this is still the best product I have come across for my daughters thick hair. I will continue to purchase.

I use this every time I wash my hair. I have curly 3b hair. After combing out tangles, I use this gel. It’s my favorite gel for light hold. My hair is fine and forms ringlets that need shape to hold together.

This provides it for me. I love it and the light coconut smell. It’s not sticky, has very little residue, washes out easily, and I need very little to hold my curls, despite having hair down to my lower back.

I also use hair spray (Aussie Mega) for hold when wet. Strange sounding, but works for me.

I really wanted to love this because I really like the IGK brand. I have naturally wavy hair that I just wanted to smooth out for beachy waves. When I first tried it I used it on wet hair after showering to let it fully air dry with the product which didn’t turn out great.

The next two times instead of right after the shower I let my hair air dry 50-75% with my normal leave in conditioner and smoothing products and THEN tried using rich kid and had much better results; soft smooth hydrated waves and this product smells great! I also add a smidge when dry in between washes if my hair is looking dry or for taking frizz.

I struck hair gold with this purchase! I have thin, course, frizzy, curly hair. I’ve tried countless products, but they all make my hair more frizzy, crunchy, weighed down, etc. There is no nasty crunchy feeling, just soft, strong hold that allows hair to move freely.

It gives texture to my hair making it look thicker! I apply a small amount that goes a long way of the gel to my damp hair. I then scrunch it, toss it a little and let it air dry. This gel defines my curls, eliminates frizz (even on a hot, humid day), and it isn’t greasy.

You will get a natural looking finish! The smell is a pleasant clean smell. I also noticed the gel has a subtle shimmer to it which I like it because my hair shines! It is also a vegan and cruelty free product which is important to me.

We bought this gel many times. It’s not too strong of scented. You only need a small amount of gel to bring out the curls and wavy hair.

Boy mom of a 2y (26m) old. Caucasian hair. We have had this about 2 months and have barely scratched the surface since we really only need a pea sized amount for his hair. He doesn’t have any reactions (itchiness, scratching his head, flakes, etc.

) and it makes his curls really pop. We are in the Galveston/Houston area so I would say it doesn’t really stand up to the humidity and by the end of the day his hair has “relaxed. ” Usually for dry hair I will spray some Honest Detangler, comb it, then use a dab of this to muss his hair.

So I have 6 mixed children and all of their hair textures are different, it’s hard trying to find moisturizer for their hair types like don’t leave them crunchy or stiff. I use this in my 9 month olds curls right after the bath and when his hair dry’s he has the best bouncy, soft curls.

It can also be used in dry hair which is great. I do wish the smell was comparable to other brands, but other than that I love it.

After reading the description saying no flakes I bought this product. It was true as long as you washed it out after the first day. If you go more than a day without washing your hair it will be extremely flaky afterwards.

The hold is very good and not very stiff. It is great for anyone with less than 1 inch long hair. At 2 inches it holds the hair pretty well but it will sink a bit after 15 minutes or so. In this case, apply the gel, wait 15 minutes and reapply gel and you should be good.

The tub is definitely a lot and it seems worth the price for such a quantity. Kinda hard to travel with such a big tub. It won’t fit in your shaving bag. Warning, this stuff is fairly thin so if the tub is turned over, turn it right side up and wait 10 seconds or so for it to sink back to the bottom.

Also the lid is a little too easy to remove so if you are traveling with it, put it in its own plastic bag.

I have tried most hair products but this does do what it says its called miss selling you can not spike your hair with this item also it left my hair greasy. If your hair is flat all good otherwise if you want to style your hair how you want get gummy wax it will never let you down.

The gel didnt didn’t make my hair feel super hard but it did feel pretty stiff & surprisingly held my hair back pretty good & I wear a bradied ponytail & hrs later my hair was still holding. The only thing I wasn’t feeling was the smell.

It smelled like mens Cologne / idk i guess feet I would say. I had to check to make sute it wasnt expired. But the smell wasnt to bad. I’d still get the gel again even if it dosent have a 100% good smell like Jhonny B Mode gel.

Hubby Bought this gel the smallest size at his barber shop but it was $20 he then got the other size which is 30 something oz for $28. We really like this gel since its 0 alcohol. It doesn’t damage the hair either.

Good fragrance, holds long and does not leave flakes. When dried if you run fingers through hair may undue your do; yet with a little bit of moisture, you could restyle again and holds this way for long without reapplication.

I had been using another brand for years that came in a yellow tube and one day ran out by chance. I Never heard of this brand but I tried it out glad that I did now its my go to gel. It smells great, very clean, no flakes not overpowering it holds hair not like other brands that hold like glue or contact cement, and reek of plasticky odor.

This product has the advantage of being usable on adult heads as well, while being marketed as a braiding gel for kids. When we first opened the jar, my daughter really enjoyed the smell. I love how lightweight it is and how it applies to her hair easily without needing to put a ton on.

It gives it a beautiful additional shine and dries without leaving any flakes in her hair. With this jar, a little little goes a long way, so it will last you for awhile. All day long, my daughter’s hair continued to feel moist, soft, and gives a beautiful shine.

Whenever our daughter loves the smell and feel of a product that is a win in our book.

I love this! I used this on my daughter’s 4a hair, and it helped with detangling SO much. I only needed to dab the pad of my finger into the product, and that was enough to wet the root of her hair, and I used water to help distribute at the base.

With that tiny bit, I was able to part her hair with NO snagging. While this definitely helps with detangling AND definition, I wouldn’t use this from root to ends because it could quickly create buildup.

You can see how the hair immediately curls right up when the product is applied, and it looks SO moisturized. The texture of the product is waxy, but still very loose. If you tip the jar over, it will quickly spill out.

I’m thinking that texture is what helps with its amazing distribution. Usually, all things by this brand have a fragrance, but this does not. It doesn’t smell bad, but no added fragrance either.

This hair braid in jam with Shea butter is very moisturizing. Like I said before in my review title…A little goes a long way. The scent is just right. This braiding jam softens my hair and left it with a nice sheen… as you can see in my pics.

It improves manageability and provides a light tack to help hold my hair together. Last but not least… the ingredients is just about right! not a lot of ingredients I can’t pronounce.
