I started learning to play guitar a few months ago and had mostly been using Fender medium picks. I wanted to start trying different options after about 500 hours practice. Im glad that I did because like all guitar players eventually you start experimenting with different picks.

In the beginning I was just happy to keep the pick in my fingers and not fly out of my hand but now at almost 600 hours I’m seeing the advantages of trying different types of picks. Its worth trying but in the beginning I don’t think it matters much because you haven’t developed enough skills to be able to see a difference.

But once you get the fundamentals down you can appreciate the difference between the assorted picks this selection offers.

After buying dozen packs of each pick in various sizes to try out as a beginning acoustic guitarist, this is the best (and cheapest) option since it also includes a variety of materials. For now, I’m partial to the orange Tortex.

60 and Nylon. 60 and. 73 as my instructors advise starting out with thinner, more flexible picks. This is about like having a wrench set in your toolbox! When you find the ones most useful, add more of those to each kit.

Finally found this Dunlop variety pack when searching for a pack with tortex flex. 73,. 88 and tortex standard. 73 sizes. Never would have thought it would be named ‘acoustic variety pack’. The tortex flex picks are excellent and overlooked by many.

If you like dunlop nylon and standard tortex, then you’ll probably like the tortex flex; it’s a kind of hybrid of the two and feels like it.

Being guitar picks, I obviously use them to play guitar. I play electric guitar for what it’s worth. I use a variety of pick brands, but they’re always heavy thickness. 1. 00 is good for me. These Fender Celluloid Shell picks look nice and play well.

They’re one of my go-to picks now. My only complaint, and it really isn’t a complaint, is that they feel a bit “slippery,” for lack of a better word. However, they’re celluloid picks and that is to be expected, regardless of brand.

Overall I’d rate these picks 9/10. Would certainly purchase them again.

These became my favorite pick the instant I tried the first one. I love how they feel. The regular delrin picks (Tortex) work well and last longer than celluloid, but I don’t much care for how they feel in my hand.

I have dry skin, and They tend to move a lot. I feel like I have to grip them harder. The delrin 500, with the added teflon and the more polished feel are easier to hold onto. They just work better for me.

This is the second bag of 72 I’ve ordered. Great product!.

A nice pick for strumming and some picking, these picks have a good feel and they grip to your fingers very well, the material seems to make your fingers grip to it quite positively and doesn’t slip, some other picks can seem to shift position after awhile and you have to adjust them while playing but these picks don’t do that they hold the same position in your fingers, also the sound is good.

I recommend these to acoustic guitar strumming with the versatility to some picking as well.

Opinions on picks are very subjective and one may use different pick materials & thicknesses depending upon the instrument & music style you play. After years of constant experimentation, I found these picks as my favorite for playing banjo.

They provide the correct overall balance, ie, they’re stiff enough to play chords in a typical combo environment while providing the correct flex that allows for smooth strum hand tremoloing. I would not use them for playing a Strat, an arch-top or flat-top.

All of this is just my opinion. I always advise musicians to try different picks; you may be surprised at what you discover. These are quality picks with consistency of material and a great value. Play on, my friends!.

These are fantastic for those of us who dont for whatever dont hold our picks tight enough to keep them from moving around between fingers. I have tried a lot of other picks to no avail but these do the trick for me anyway.

You can change out the pick to your desire. Dont pass on these their great.

A bit steep for only 3 pieces of rubber. Good concept considering hard to find coated picks with a proper grip. Another company seemed to have stopped making them. Also, you ship with I assume some free picks? DON’T ASSUME we all like thin/heavys out here.

I would like FENDER MEDIUMS, if you don’t mind. Didn’t seem to have a choice in the matter when I ordered.

Due to hard dry skin picks tend to rotate in my fingers. Have tried silicone pads which improve but the MOJO Picks are the best solution yet. Had an issue with delivery but PMT responded quickly and the issue was resolved.

Happy to deal with PMT again.

I ordered one pack each of the Dunlop Flow Picks, 0. 73mm and 0. 88mm. Playing mostly Jazz, Blues, and R&B, I’ve gotten used to picks with grips. My hands are not overly sweaty, but with the grips definitely help maintain better control & minimize slipping.

I was using Nylon Max Grips until I found Primetones. For my gauges, the Primetones seemed a bit stiffer and provided a clearer or sharper tone than the Nylon Max Grips. They were also more durable and more expensive.

Then, I got an email announcement about the Dunlop Flow Picks. If I’m not mistaken their material base is Ultex, same as for the Primetones. I find the 0. 73mm Flow Pick to be slightly brighter and soundwise cuts through a little more than the 0.

88mm Flow Pick. So, as I get used to them, I alternate between 0. 73 for brightness and 0. 88 for mellowness depending on the song. Overall, I am satisfied with the Flow Picks and glad I have an alternative to the more expensive Primetones.

I was curious about the next Flow gauge up from 0. 88, when I stumbled across Delrin 500’s. They also have grips. I will be trying out the 0. 71mm and 0. 96mm.

I have been a Dunlop. 73mm pick user for decades and the were my favorites. I tried the new Flow of the same yesterday for the first time. These are amazing and my new favorite by far. I play jazz-funk, funk-rock and blues.

I really like the articulation. Great product and I definitely suggest it.

Before I even opened the bag you could hear a high pitched noise almost like poker chips. That’s ultex. These picks feel really light to me. THEY DO HAVE A NICE GRIP!. Due to the textured writing. I bought these in gauges.

73mm, 1. 0mm and 1. 5mm. The 1. 5mm is too thick for me, 1. 0mm was good but the. 73mm was maybe my favorite. Plus the material does not flex much so it helps be more precise. Even though the point is relatively sharp, I still feel like it should protrude more.

I like the dunlop tiii picks and jazz iii xl. I bought these because andy james said he used dunlop 208. which are amazing picks. just really thick. These flow picks are the same shape but you can buy pretty much any gauge you want.

These pics are not for me but if you’re looking for a somewhat sharp pic with a nice beveled edge and a grip these are a nice option.

Not so great on acoustic as you can really hear the pick slide through the strings. On electric however, wow does it fly through the strings with ease. I’m just crossing into the intermediate stages of guitar and have been using the thin picks for ever, with.

60 being the thickest. Someone told me try thick as they are easy to pick & strum with. So, during these crazy COVID times where stock is difficult no matter where you go, this was one of the options for a thick pick.

For the price, it’s a great introduction to thick picks. I could give it a 5, but there is another pick out there I like better, but the 4 isn’t a knock. You can’t really be disappointed at this price range honestly.

Myself, I would prefer a slightly larger (not thicker) size, which they have just not in the store that day that has the holes in it for grip. This thing tends to move freely in my fingers.

I’ve been using Dunlop Tortex yellow picks for like 15 years, but a few months ago a fellow guitar instructor gave me a couple of these D’Addriaro green picks that are made out of a composite material called Duralin that i’ve never heard of.

He had this funny look on his face when he gave them to me, now I know why. These are some great picks that actually have improved my tone a little, I did an A/B test with these and the Dunlops and there was no comparison.

The D’Addario flex just the right amount and take much longer to wear down. They feel right. I’m converted for sure, I’d buy them by the hundred if I could, they’re not expensive like Cool Picks (which are great but way too expensive).

I told the guy who turned me on to these picks that they’re awesome and he made a gesture like he’s dropping a rock to the ground and says, “. sounds like porcelain. “.

Hard wearing picks that are good for hard playing. The hold their shape without the pick edges becoming notched and keep a good tone throughout. More expensive than the run of the mill picks but worth the extra if you can afford it.

The 1. 5mm are nice and rigid, last for ages.

Not exactly the longest lasting picks youll find but theyre a great alternative to the Jazz III. They glide right over the string but still give plenty of control and significantly articulate the front end of the note.

Feel great in the hand and dont slip around.

I ventured out from the slick and speed to see if I was missing out on something better. For the last 3 years I’ve been flirting with the Blue Chip Picks. I bought a TP-50, TP-1R 60, TD-50, JD Med Thumb Pick, Custom Made Med Thumb Pick using a STP 60 to play like a Fred Kelly Speed Pick, Another Custom Thumb Pick using a TD 50 attached to a large band.

I did have to customize the 3 thumb picks to behave a little more politely, but still couldn’t contain the passive aggressive playability of the Blue Chips. I’ve been dealing with a love hate relationship with the Blue Chips.

The Fred Kelly Slick and Speed Thumb Picks have been great friends from the start and have never made me feel incompetent. All I can say is, it’s real nice to buy 72 Thumb Picks for the price of one Blue Chip Thumb Pick.

I did not have to modify or alter anything other than a little stretching. The Delrin material is very strong and will not break! As an experiment I twisted, bent, and stretched one for sometime and nothing cracked or broke.

Try that with any other thumb pick. In conclusion. Money signs or customizable boastful talk doesn’t mean squat. It just took someone with a scientific and creative understanding to come up with something very affordable and perfect.

That is, Fred Kelly innovated a Thumb Pick that will solve your problems and make you feel at home to do what you want at anytime. I’m back on the saddle with the slick and speed picks.

Out of all the thumb picks I’ve played I have to say the Fred kelly light picks are top notch. The actual pick part is shorter than the standard thumb pick and comes to a mellow point as opposed to the shark fin shape (or dolphin fin shape if sharks are too intimidating) others use.

The light picks are about as thick as a medium flat pick. Between the gauge and shape of the pick it is fantastic for more delicate finger picking but can still get a full and powerful attack when needed.

If you are accustomed to flat picks and want to give thumb picks a try this would be a great place to start. Pinching it like a flat pick will give it almost an identical feel to a flat pick (Johnny Winter style) they are surprisingly durable too for such a light pick.

The only thing I don’t like about them is the part that wraps around your thumb is both short and squared off as opposed to rounded off, as a result the edge of the plastic can dig into your nail bed if you play for a while, though I suppose that depends on where you like your pick placed on your thumb.

Overall they’re fantastic picks (I’ve never used the word “pick” so frequently in my life) pick some of these picks up, they are fantastic picks and I wouldn’t pick any other pick over this pick. Pick.

Love these thumbpicks. They’re the only ones that fit my thumb. They have a great sound and the bass notes are not overbearing. The light is good if you want a softer attack and the medium is best for a stronger attack.

The heavy is a little much for me but there’s a lot of players that use them so it’s really personal preference. I file the picks down as they are a bit long but again, that’s personal preference. They’re very well made and I love the sound of the Delrin material which is what a lot of flatpicks are made from.

I bought these as I am going to try finger picking style and as I don’t like long nails I wanted to try these. Quality and price very good ( well D’Addario) but unfortunately because I had never tried any before I picked the wrong size, I don’t think I have have large fingers but the medium picks are just too tight.

Will get some large ones in the future to try out.

They’re amazing ! They don’t break easily. Fits perfectly on my finger. Good for playing my instrument. I would strongly recommend it to anyone that are looking for these certain types of picks. Also I would buy it again.

They do the job. Was an online figerpick guide suggested mediums for my finger width, but next time I’ll go with large , as they ae pretty tight. Used the hot water method to customize , and made them do-able , but think maybe they run kinda small , just my $ 0.

02. Think I’m liking Alaska pics better.

I tried one of these picks playing bass guitar and it completely disintegrated after about 2 hours. The pick feels really dry and brittle. Not what I expected at all. Now my bass and floor are covered in tiny rubber specks, like a pencil eraser would leave behind.

Absolute trash. Would not recommend this product.

I’ve played guitar for many years, so I’m very familiar with picking technique. I was hoping to apply a long established skill to the bass, and still get a fingertip sound. These are very intuitive and sound amazing.

I feared that “hard” rubber would be too close to delrin, but it’s not. In fact, the hard is how I pictured the medium or soft. I’ve been using more bass synth, which requires a precision stop to each note for the best processing/ tracking.

These picks allow me to play faster on the bass without sounding harsh, and still get the best results with the bass synth. Very pleased!.

Like most aspects of all guitar products, the Wedgie offers up tone. Like preferences in pedals or amp makes, we all have tones we try to achieve. On guitar, this pick is just a tool I use to get a certain tone.

Great for blues solos and slow melodic stuff, think Samba Pa Ti. It can make a blues solo truly cry with a skilled fret hand. Most of my guitar paying is done with a regular celluloid pick but when I need that controlled muted tone, I know where to get it.

I don’t use them for rhythm guitar. Just wears them out. I also use them constantly when playing bass. I am a guitar player pushed into that bass spot sometimes. My finger picking is not up to snuff on some songs, due to lack of practice and experience.

But I get there with a pick, no problem. But I did not want that sharp pick attack, especially when I get rolling in high gear. These picks are great for speed and tone on the bass. They do wear out though, actually pretty quick in rehersal/gig situations where you are knocking out 3 hours of tunes.

So while they cost a little more and use up faster, I find achieving the tone I want well worth it. Heck, I still buy premium ice cream and that doesn’t do a dang thing for me!.

I have been using “Star Picks” for years, and I have generally been very happy with them. My only issue with them is that the star hole is slightly too far from the tip of the pick. I was very excited to see that Clayton had come up with the Hex pick which has the hole in a much better position, and I ordered a pack.

These picks are okay, but they are not as pictured on the website. I have uploaded a comparison photo showing three picks- the website photo/ the actual pick I received/ and a Star Pick. Notice how the shape of the pick is not as advertised (especially the too-pointy tip) and the hex hole is not as large as advertised.

All in all, these picks are okay, but I don’t think I’d have bought them if the picture was accurate. Compared to Star Picks, the Hex is in a better position, but the star hole is a better size and the star shape is easier to grip.

Not likely to buy these again.

One of my go-to picks. I mainly use this for acoustic. The hole in the middle really does help with grip. The picks hold up for a long time. The logo ink does come off onto your fingers but that doesn’t really bother me.

The stiffness and overall quality are very good, just way stiffer than expected. Normally using a Herco Silver (. 75) for reference point (seem to have settle on that more than any other pick I’ve tried).

I normally play Dunlop Petrucci flow or the regular flow 2. 0 mm. I like thicker, medium sized picks. This was larger than I expected. It’s essentially a full sized pick (think full size Stubby series) but with the Ultex flow feel.

The tip is pointed but not sharp so staccato licks are smooth and consistent without overaccentuating pick attack. If you are used to Jazz 3’s this may not be for you, but if you like the Petrucci flow you might like these as well.

I’ve been using Jim Dunlop. 73’s for about 30+ years but I decided to experiment with some flows including John Petrucci’s. His are a tad small for me. The flows with grip – OK but the grip slightly distracting.

Andy James are the just right “goldilocks” picks for me. Far more durable than the. 73’s but most importantly way faster attack – brilliant.

This pick rounded bevel really make fast runs easier. It doesn’t feel as thick as it is. Also I had an interesting experience: I was recording a video on a friends’ house, using an acoustic guitar and microphone, my guitar was buzzing and being noisy when I played with more intensity (I was using 12s and a 1.

14mm Tortex pick, that I really like), I decided to use the Andy James and I could get the same volume putting less force (because of the pick mass) and with less string noise. Downside: don’t buy this pick if you like that snappy sound from standard picks (like country or blues players).

The flow shape is not for that kind of style.

I have been using jazz picks for decades. I am a metal player primarily. These are, hands down, life changing. They’re a touch longer, so they have a little extra bite on the strings and are more accurate than regular jazz picks.

You can sweep beautifully as well. I absolutely love them. If you play regular jazz picks, stop and try these.

Jazz picks have always been too small for me, so I don’t usually buy them. I honestly bought this set because it’s Petrucci’s brand – never intending on using them more than a few times just for fun.

Here’s the kicker – I love these picks! I no longer use my Tortex, Ultex, Fender Mediums – all of which were my favorites for decades. The Petrucci pick is slightly larger than a standard Dunlop Jazz, it’s contoured thicker and textured at the finger surface area, and the “JP” raised logo helps grip the pick better so you avoid the slippery-pick-drop syndrome.

I’ve been trying other no-slip picks for a long time, and these are my favorites. I’m switching from standard pick sizes so these smaller picks improve my accuracy when playing fast runs. I bought 4 more packs after I tried them out.

I’ve been using the Dunlop Ultex triangle picks for a while and thought I’d give these a try when I needed to re-up on picks. Ordered the heavies, hoping they’d be around the same thickness as the Dunlop 1.

0mm or 1. 14mm that switch between. They’re close to the 1. 0mm. Problem is that every single one had a very pronounced cup, making it impossible to hold but one way. Even with the cup in the comfortable position, it was so pronounced it effected the attack, hanging up on the up strokes.

Didn’t seem much in the way of any contouring either. Just stamped, hard right angles on the edges. That I could live with because the strings would carve that away soon enough, but the cupping was terrible.

I bought this pack of Tortugas because I was attracted by the material, I thought it was a new celluloid color. In reality I was wrong, this material is definitely not celluloid, and I also made a mistake ordering the 551 size, which is much smaller than the traditional Fender shape 351 and with a sharp point.

However I am getting used to them, even if they are more suitable for an electric guitar than the acoustic I am playing. Grip is good, there is no flexibility in the XH version I bought so it’s quite good for fast passages, I would say it sounds slightly brighter than a traditional celluloid plectrum with less attack noise.

The material looks beautiful and I already ordered a pack of 351 to compare.

These are an upgraded version of the tortoise shell celluloid picks that Fender has been making for years. I really like the sound of these on my acoustic guitar. I purchased the thin pack and these aren’t as flexible as you’d expect.

I have yet to chip or crack one of these yet but I only have about an hours worth of playing time on a pick. The sound is slightly brighter than nylon but not as flimsy sounding as celluloid. If these don’t break I will be buying more in the future.

With arthritis and carpal tunnel the cork makes the picks easier to hold. I have purchased them elsewhere in the past but I find this batch isn’t the same quality. The picks wore out after one rehearsal.

Was glad I ordered this pick. The cork backing provides great support and control allowing the player to perform things easier and better than without it. However I noticed it was a bit flimsy, or thin, for a.

50mm pick. Also this tended to make the pick a little warped shortly after using it. This is probably not a problem for most players but seemed to make the life of the pick much shorter than usual. But overall I like the cork backing.

Just will be looking for a. 60mm size next time.

I would recommend to avoid this pick if the resaon you want it is to avoid slipping. The thickness with the cork glued on makes the pick far too thick. The sponginess of the cork actually makes the pick looser in your grip and requires you to squeeze the pick harder.

While the pick comes in standard gauge sizes and stiffness the stiffness is too greatly impacted by the cork. I would certainly recommend some other picks with materials designed to be slip resistant or the sand style picks that are rougher to improve your grip.

You may find the pick more useful if your reasoning is because you have hand or thumb problems and you need the cork to absorb shock. My opinion is if you have that problem the pick will still be loose and you’ll find yourself gripping harder causing more problems.

The cork on the pick is supposed to help with your grip however it’s spring as a material makes it too loose and in many cases hurts your accuracy. Basically its cork glued onto a pick. Not worth it, better to get a pick out of the non slick materials that are available.

This was my first experience at Sam Ash. I couldn’t be more pleased. The salesman was very helpful but not pushy. I was not satisfied with my original purchase and returned it in order to exchange it for another guitar.

I am a longtime Jazz III XL Ultex user. I love the feel of Ultex, but wanted just a little bit bigger size that was similar in shape to one of my favorites, the Dunlop Jazztone 208. The pick point profile is very similar for me, as it’s not as acute as say the regular “Sharp” Shape Dunlop produces, it’s a bit more of an obtuse, wider angle.

My Jazz III XL’s are a little more acute than these, which means I don’t have to get rid of a shape. I believe I’ve moved on from the regular size Jazz III’s, however — too small for me. These Ultex sharps are great for me in 2.

0 and 1. 4. I gravitate towards these thicknesses over thinner picks. I use these picks with electric bass, 6-7 string guitar, and ukelele, as well as my 1/2 size Yamaha acoustic. I play primarily Stoner/Doom bass and guitar riffs as well as gypsy, middle-eastern/oriental type leads.

I don’t do a lot of chording with these picks, but that’s just my style. These picks are grippy when you first take them out, like a powdered asian hard candy (if you know what I’m talking about, you’ll know I nailed the description).

The edges are smooth, with not mold line (unlike the Delrin Dunlop picks I have). These picks will generally get lost before they are worn down in my usage. I use these with flat and round bass strings, 9-62 guitar strings, and 1/2 size and concert ukelele nylon strings.

I just placed another order for the 72 pack. The only improvement I’d make with these picks are to have some sort of raised lettering or embossing like on my Beloved Jazz III XL Ultex.

The Dunlop Ultex series of picks are some kind of the best guitar picks I’ve ever used. They are super durable and sound great. The guitar picks people use are a seriously underrated and overlooked part of your tone.

After playing with Fender medium and extra heavy standard picks for 15+ years I decided to try something new for a different feel, sound and durability. Now I’m struggling with what thickness and tip shape.

The sharps are awesome because they have this great sounding attack and are super accurate which translates into faster individual string picking. The standards are a great all around pick with more articulation.

The material is awesome. They almost have a glass like sound when you jingle them in your hand and the 1mm-1. 14mm still have a touch of bend. The 1. 40mm up are super stiff. String release is instant with all.

I also like the Jazz III XL in Ultex but keep coming back to the Ultex standard and ultex sharp (which has the same sharp tip shape as the Jazz III). I usually play the same pick for both electric and acoustic and have found the 1mm and 1.

14mm are balanced enough that you can play either and not have any issues. The thicker picks have way too much attack for me on the acoustic.

Love the Ultex feel and the grip is perfect, not too much-not too little. The first time I touched Ultex to a string I knew it was special, then I tried the Primetone and wow what a grip, not too grippy but just right for my sense of feel.

It’s very easy to let this pick “float” for rhythm and yet have a great firmness for single notes and picking. I got lucky and found both of these in a variety pack. I have ordered more. They are that good.

I also like the Jim Dunlop’s Tortex over celluloid, but Ultex is slicker and quicker-Primetone brings it all together. My experience is with. 88 and 1. 14 Tortex, 1. 0 Ultex, and. 96 Primetone. The. 96 Gator is good too, but it’s Tortex (Delrin).

Only one complaint–they’re so dark you’ll never find a dropped one at night. If they ever make these in a brighter color, I’ll be ordering a dozen.

If you are an acoustic player (especially mandolin!) and you are already familiar with the excellence of the Blue Chip pick, this is a great contender for the price. Now that is not to say that is EXACTLY like a Blue Chip pick, but with the price difference considered, it is great for what it is.

The material is not quite as dense as the Blue Chip pick material, and the the material’s surface is not quite as grippy as the Blue Chip pick’s material. That being said, it is still worlds above the other typical flat picks.

If you already play with Blue Chip picks, I think this may be a good pick to use in situations where you might fear losing such an expensive pick (playing on the road for instance). If you don’t already play with Blue Chip picks, I think these are worth a try for those not inclined to make the leap and buy such expensive picks.

I am not sure I feel the better quality is of as much impact if you are an electric guitar player, but may still be worth trying if you like experimenting with different picks. I was actually impressed with the attention to quality that is afforded these picks in the aspect that they are apparently hand-beveled and include a sign-off sheet with the worker’s initials.

These Thermex picks are absolutely amazing. I especially like the 651 shape for electric guitar, as it has a smooth almost buttery feel to it. Even though the pick has a point, it still glides over strings MUCH BETTER than a Dunlop jazz 3 pick, both regular and XL.

I use these and Pick Boy’s 1. 50mm Jazz pick. For me, I kinda prefer the Taylor thermex ones just because of how warm they are and how smooth they play. The 651 shape is in between a Jazz 3 pick and a jazz 3 XL pick.

Why I didn’t give 5 stars: I do wish they were slightly -SLIGHTLY- larger, like the same size as Pick Boy’s jazz pick, but the size works for me and the sound/tone is awesome. (Just slightly bigger) My only other complaint is their price.

6 for 12 is a little high, even if these picks are really good. If they were slightly larger it would be alright, but I do plan to buy a couple more packs of these.

Been using Dunlop tortex for years. Tried some other new plectrums and settled on these. Feel great to play. Not lasting as long as usual though as I’m playing far more than I would as they are that easy to play with.

A friend gave me two of these as a gift. I hadn’t been using a 1. 0 thick pick in a long time, but when I tried it, I really liked the feel and sound. Over the years I had switched from Delrin to Tortex and back to regular celluloid.

These are amazing in feel and sound.

These machined tone-wood picks are outstanding. I get the kind of tone I want while varying the attack. I love using these for acoustic as well as electric solid and semi-hollow guitars.
