20 Best Guitar Pedals For Blues (2023 Updated)

One of the stalwarts of the Boss range, the Blues Driver’s popularity with guitarists never wanes. IMHO I don’t think the standard Boss pedal enclosure has ever been bettered. Rock solid, smooth switching, easy battery access and sensibly placed inputs and 9v power socket.

Controls are intuitive and smooth. The pedal provides a good low to medium overdrive but I would have to say that played A/B with a decent ‘klone’ it just sounds a bit harsh to my ears. “Fizzy”, another guitarist friend calls it.

But maybe that’s just us. It’ll have a long life in my 2nd pedal board and as a backup to my klone.

I got this and the warhorn around the same time so I could decide which one I like better. Ended up liking both. The warhorn is better for country and Texas blues. Waza blues is better for classic sounding blues and rock.

I’ve been using it lately to learn some Pink Floyd solos. The tone is almost exactly like the recordings with the drive a third of the way up or so with a Strat through a blackstar ht 60 mk2. I’ve got the waza metal zone for heavy stuff and the waza blues and walrus audio warhorn for classic sounds.

I recommend all three. The blues driver and warhorn are very similar so you could go with one or the other if you stick to a certain sound mostly.

Excellent pedal. I had never owned an original BD2 before i bought this so I couldn’t truly compare but from what I understand the only real difference is the switch above the tone knob. Standard voicing(BD2) or custom voicing.

I prefer the custom and leave it set on that always. The difference is relatively subtle but I find the custom sound to be just a little bit brighter. Also seems to me that it gives just a tad more sustain and has just a little bit more crunch at high gain settings.

I pretty much never turn this pedal off when I’m playing. I use it for all of my so-called clean tones. I put a compressor in front of it and I keep the gain rolled back and it adds a very subtle but amazing coloration to the tone.

And then I also use it for 90 percent of my high-gain tones. Paired with a fuzz in front and an EQ and reverb after I can get a variety of tones that I love from heavy doom sludgey stoner rock to classic fender tube amp tones to Clapton sounding fuzziness to massive walls of shoegazey thickness ala my bloody valentine.

It works fantastic with both single coils and humbuckers. I use it with my les paul and telecaster and it reacts perfectly to both of them. I even use it with my bass sometimes it works surprisingly well just doesn’t exactly fit with a bass cuts out some of the low end but good for some stuff.

In short this an awesome pedal I love it. It interacts wonderfully with every other effect I use therefore is extremely versatile and it’s a boss pedal so it’s extremely durable.

Is this pedal for you? I suppose that depends on what you’re looking for. So let’s start with what this pedal isn’t. As you might expect from a pedal called the blues driver. It’s not for metal. Of any kind.

It is however perfectly suited to blues, and will work for classic rock just as well. You could probably even stretch into country a bit, but that’s about it. It also isn’t a tube screamer. Which is good, because if that’s what you want.

So if you want a tube screamer get that, not this. Alright, let’s talk about what this is. A Great sounding pedal, that can get some pretty diverse tones. I’ve found it impersonates David Gilmour’s tone on the 2nd solo of comfortably numb pretty well via a low saturation boost.

Which has a great percussive effect when doing so. Crank the gain up and it does the wall of sound thing with power chords nicely. In other words. It has a lot more gain on tap than the TS808. Again, it’s not a TS.

It’s smooth, creamy, and despite this. Very clear and articulated, with lot’s of definition on single notes. Even under heavy gain loads. So what sets this Waza Craft edition apart? It’s quite a bit less noisy, and has the custom circuit mode.

Which beefs of the sound quite a bit by adding some mid range. So is the custom mode better? No. It’s just different. Gives you more tonal options, which is good because the middy custom mode might sound flat on a Marshall, while the standard mode could be harsh through a fender.

Depending on what kind of guitar you’re using, and how you EQ. Is it worth paying an extra $60 for the Waza version? That all depends on you, how much you have to spend, what else you need, and what you’re using it for.

And what kind of pickups you’re using. I would say beginner – intermediate players can save themselves some $$$ and buy the original. Gigging mucians, advanced level players, and people who do a lot of recording will probably appreciate the lower noise threshold, and wider tone palette.

I had this pedal — let it go and got it back – thank goodness. For 15 years I have used an Xotic BB Preamp. It’s become an industry standard and it’s an incredible pedal but since I switched to Quilter Amps I haven’t been able to utilize the volume beyond unity gain (which can also act like a Rangemaster) and have been totally dependent on the Gain.

I like a Super Lead voice and the BB Pre is more of a JTM45 voice with excellent tone controls but limited gain. My Dark Matter simply has more Super Lead voiced gain on tap. I use open back cabs loaded with a V-30 and a G12H-30 and with my TC Volume set at unity, my Treble at noon, my Bass at 3-4 and my Gain around 1:30, I really get the SL sound I want.

I’m using custom Briggs Pandora low output A4 “PAF”s (7. 7k & 6. 8k) and it’s Cream, Zep, Angus etc all day long. BTW – it stacks incredibly well with my BB if I want a little more saturation.

Would give it 4 and a half stars for what I use it for. This is the only distortion pedal on my board now. I also have Od and boost. It is what it says- dark. Sounds great through my Fender amps with tele or les Paul.

I can get muff type fuzz or just dark and dirty. Controls are excellent and usable live. Toggle switch gives barely noticeable change in sound. Have read that these pedals can develop problems with the pots.

time will tell. I use it for 60s garage rock Sonics- Kinks- Pretty Things- Them- really fits the bill. Has knocked my fuzz pedal off the board. Not for metal heads, but highly recommended for darkish distorted tones.

Good value for a versatile mild distortion pedal. The controls adjust the gain, volume, bass, and treble which allows a lot of fine tuning. The bass and treble controls are really helpful when switching between single coil and humbucker pickups.

There is also a micro-switch to change the voice setting. It is really a mid shift control for the tone. To my ears the lead setting is best; the rhythm setting sounds muddy. Up to around 12:00 to 1:00 on the gain control seems to stay in Tube Screamer territory.

I’m able to get classic 70’s rock sound staying in this range. Past 1:00 on the gain control gets into heavier distortion more suited for modern heavy metal. It isn’t as hardcore as the name suggests – I think heavy metal fans would probably find its distortion too mild – but the Dark Matter pedal is still a versatile, good sounding pedal for the money.

First, I run two clean class A amps stereo clean. I have 4 wampler pedals for my desired amount of drive that I use. The Pantheon is my medium drive go to pedal for lead and or Rythm. Caution can be very bright so star with presence almost all the way down.

I run it at maybe 9 oclock. Very notable feature here- you do not loose your low end with this pedal. With the treble, bass, and presence set appropriately you can retain most of you guitars original tone for decent transparency.

This pedal sounds great with the Tumnus deluxe as well so i believe it plays well with other pedals. which is Important. Theres plenty of room with the tone shaping and a amount of drive this pedal offers to please most players for sure.

Its certainly a great addition in any line of pedals.

After doing some professional recording, I realized I needed an upgrade in pedals, specifically distortion. I had been using the BD-2 by Boss for a while with my Twin and it was going great, but really lacked the clarity and openness I was looking for to imitate a high quality head without the hefty price tag.

This pedal has a huge amount of headroom and you can REALLY crank it if you need to. Cuts through my mix amazingly well. Tone knob brings out the high end, but I wouldn’t go above 3 o’clock. Fat is more low-mid area, which I have around 1 o’clock.

The gain just continues to open up without all the compression, which I love. Overall, I’m very satisfied. Looking forward to more Rockett stuff. Thanks also to Musician’s Friend for great prices and service!.

The Blue Note adds a warmth to your tone as well as that bluesy, edge of breakup feel. Engage the hot switch and you go into tube screamer territory plus. It does not have loads of overdrive, but it will definitely shape the tone of your amp in a way that is very pleasing to the ear.

Very transparent, lots of versatility in fine tuning for the right sound. Tone controls work great and with the tone switch allow for a great amount of sonic adjustment. Gain control allows you to add just the right amount you need to find your tone spot.

Great for single coils or humbuckers. One of the best low/medium gain pedals I have come across. A keeper.

Sound: Quality of construction is excellent. I like the way the red light is recessed into this pedal, tje bulb isnt too bright and it doesnt light up near the three dials. Makes the settings easier to read than on some other pedals I have.

I think JHS designed the center of this pedal for us to find a custom sticker of our choice, Alf on a skateboard comes to mind. Has to be within a three by three inch diameter. Something to think about Features: Component wise, volume and gain are pretty relatable, the center dial says ‘Filter.

I understand this is a nod to the Pro Co Rat. Bass/treble is what this setting is referring to for that particular dials setting. according to the instruction sheet that came with it Ease of Use: A gain toggle switch adds a noticable bass and gritty darkness, if you were to switch this toggle while playing, just know the volume will drop.

Its best to stick with one toggle mode and use a different pedal to switch to a different distortion, then again- you really wouldnt need to. Youd most likely switch from clean channel or a lighter overdrive.

It really works just fine the way it was designed Quality: Construction is excellent, JHS stuff is made of metal and pretty well balanced, unlike some of the bulbous shapes and acrylic cases tc electronic pedals uses, tc has recently come out with some pretty good budget pedals.

Tubescreamer clones and some effects that amps dont always come with built into them, but should Value: The 3 series is an excellent value, I might want to investigate their fuzz pedal next to add some rolling thunder to lighter overdrive pedals like the Wampler Belle and Way Huge Conspiracy Theory.

The Fishing is Fun As Fuzz pedal by Animals Pedal is cool but it has proven to be so powerful that it can only be used as a standalone. Id like to get a fuzz pedal that offers subtle nuances to use as a stackable feature, the innovators at JHS seem to understand me.

By watching their product demos on The JHS Show on youtube, they have earned my trust. You see I recently bought this blue colored bluesbreaker clone pedal called a Blooze Maker Pedal made by Chicago Stompworks- with or without a noise gate pedal the Blooze Maker Pedal broadcasted radio stations through my Vox Ac10, Deluxe Reverb and Princeton Reverb amps.

I messaged the bulider/owner about the issue and he didnt accept returns and told me to try a battery instead of our beloved modern signal chains. Im pretty sure his positive comments were all bogus.

I have been playing bass and guitar through clean channel tube amps since 1993. This was the year I began regularly watching the JHS Show on youtube which influenced me to look into gain. With an overdrive, fuzz or distortion tone we can add warmth and character to an otherwise flat signal.

I now blanket my guitar notes in unique waves of cascading static, surprisingly a newfound taste in their savory gain pedals has made playing my guitars sound and feel more palatable through my amp speakers.

There are so many overdrives you can play through such as transparant pedals, tubescreamer pedals, klon circuit pedals, English plexi tone distortions and American Rat style distortion sounds. All are unique to one another and worth diversifying your music with.

You know youll play the electric guitar until you die, get some good pedals Overall: This pedal sounds like the Rat distortion pedal but not as loose, a little bit brighter, in comparison to the plexi distortion pedals its a little brighter on the treble side.

This has a hint of whispering raspy fuzztones. I have it next to the I Was A Wolf In the Forest Distortion by Animals Pedals, I like the way this 3 series Distortion pedals full. strum feels. Its focused, it ranges from a light overdrive to a higher gain almost a thrash metal tone.

Plenty of grit. If I had only one distortion pedal, Id be happy with it.

I was looking for a cheaper reverb pedal to add to my new mini pedalboard, and these JHS 3 Series pedals came up in my search. I watched a ton of videos, and they sounded amazing, so I figured that I’d give the reverb a try.

Plugging it in, I was blown away!! It’s such a sweet sounding digital reverb, with a toggle switch for pre-delay, which was an added bonus. I compared it next to my Catalinbread Talisman, which I love, and it kept right up no problem.

I also tried it next to a TC Electronic Hall Of Fame 2, and that pedal sounded like garbage next to the JHS 3 Series. This whole experience has made me super curious about their other 3 Series selections, after hearing how great they sound.

I am a huge jhs fan, and I’ve owned 4 of their pedals now. First issue I’ve ever had. When I pulled the pedal out of the box it felt cheap. A lot cheaper than the “cheap” price it cost. But since I love jhs so much I gave the benefit of the doubt.

All that came out was a sputtering sound as the volume dropped in and out. The same problem no matter where the knobs and switch were set. But there’s a reason AMS is my go to seller. They immediately started a return for me.

I had high hopes for the 3 series and was let down. But still love jhs and still love AMS!.

Probably the best OD pedal for the money. Some pedals are loud with lots of distortion and some are clear allowing articulation in the notes. The loud ones often distort so much they become ineffective, overwhelming notes, chords, and melody.

Many of the clearer ones can’t really boost very much and become too thin when pushed. The Angry Driver can be pushed as far as you need it to go and still maintain a great deal of articulation. The fusion of the Boss Blues Driver and the JHS Angry Charlie, and the flexibility to blend them together in any combination to any degree, makes this hands down the best OD pedal for the money.

Fuzzface, Klon, and Tubescreamer are old standbys and have their distinctive sounds, but their sounds are ubiquitous and all too often end up in the “too loud” or “too thin” areas of the tonal palette.

And many pedals try to emulate them with varying degrees of success. Why should you adjust your playing and your tone to fit the pedal? Get a pedal than can change to fit what you need it to do. If you want an OD pedal that will give you a wider tone palette then most any other out there at a price that makes sense, look no further than the Angry Driver.

I traded my MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive pedal in exchange for this one and let me tell you, this was the best decision I’ve made for my pedalboard so far. I’m a blues/rock guitarist playing out of an Epiphone Les Paul 1959 Uniform Reissue into a Vox MV50 AC and this pedal has all of the tones I need for my style.

From the low gain, twangy, classic overdrive sound to the warm, full-bodied distortion whenever I wanna crank it up. I also love how you can blend the two effects into three different ways and the parallel has the perfect harmonic fusion that compliments this effect tremendously.

JHS and Boss should come back with another collaboration soon, I’d really like to see what they come up with next!.

I have an AC3, but not a Blues Driver, so this pedal was an interesting experiment for me. I usually boost my AC3 with an Archer Ikon, and it sounds great. While I like the overall dark tone of the AC3, the JB-2 is different.

The AC3 side doesn’t exactly sound like an AC3, and for many, this could be a good thing. There’s a slight increase in brightness IMO, perhaps it’s the buffer in the JB-2, since the AC3 is actually true bypass.

Overall, you won’t get the same sound as an AC3 boosted by a BD, but you’ll get something rather different, but great. Nice collaboration.

The Morning Glory is a must-have pedal, this includes the Moonshine pedal in a compact enclosure that only requires 1 power connection (great for a small board). You can run either of these on its own, both together in either order, and you’re got the additional gain stage (switch or red-remote enabled) – you can do so much with just those options, and the sweep of each control gives you so much to work with.

It might be a little more expensive than the average pedal, but you get so much control and color to your sound. I know it is fun to buy and try all the OD pedals out there, but you really won’t need another once you try this one.

Highly Recommended.

JHS knocked it out of the ball park with this overdrive. But you have to turn the gain down when you use both overdrive channels or it sounds real “spitty. ” The gain boost switch and headroom switch amplify your volume quite a bit.

That’s a little inconvenient for recording in that I have to change the settings on my interface every time I flip a switch on the Double Barrel. Also, I wish the left/right feed switch had a center position for running the 2 overdrives in parallel.

I use to have the Boss JB-2 Angry Driver and it had that option. I also found that having the input/output on top is slightly inconvenient if you use patch cables with angled ends and you’re connecting it to pedals that have the input/output on the side.

Other than that, it an awesome overdrive with a warm tone. Just a little pricey. For what it costs, it should at least have come with a power supply or daisy chain cable or something.

I’ve been using this pedal for a few years, and it is still one of my favorite overdrives. I’ve had it on countless different boards with countless different setups and it really is a main stay. This is an excellent take on an unobtainable classic.

It works really well as a boost pushing lighter distortion in the low gain mode, but the hot side adds some nice grit and is my preferred setting. The Tumnus interacts really well with other pedals, my favorite is boosting them.

Works great at the beginning of a chain with the buffer, and the top mounted input jacks are convenient. Overall, a really good sounding pedal, I would replace it if something happened to this one.

Excellent pedal. From simply adding warmth and depth to your tone or adding a touch to a moderate amount of overdrive, this pedal delivers. Because I already have two great overdrives on my board, I wanted that mystical Klon push that its so famous for and man did I get it.

I went with he deluxe so i had the 3 band EQ. Very useful for tone shaping, my pick ups can be produce a lot of bass with some pedals so the ability to back that off and add mid/treble makes it great.

I run this into a Blues Jr 3 and it just perfects the tone. With the gain at 2 o’clock I can pick softly for a warm clean tone and then dig in for a wonderful light overdrive. Add the MXR Carbon Copy and you might reduce to a 2 pedal board, just sayin.

This pedal is that good.

This is an amazing pedal. It pushes amps beautifully just with the volume knob, and the gain is really nice. Really is a must have, always on pedal. Sounds great with all of my guitars and even my basses (3 band eq gives you great versatility).

If you are looking for a battery powered pedal, however, beware. Wampler tells me it multiplies the 9v to 36v, so it will burn through a battery in 20-40 minutes, and I went through 3 batteries in my first session.

This is a power supply pedal. The battery is a life boat feature. But again, wow! is this pedal worth it!.

Hats off to Brian Wampler. I have been chasing a usable modern heavy metal sound and this pedal delivers with room to spare. I mostly play at moderate bedroom sound levels with a Blackstar ht20mkii combo amp and this pedal nails the tone I hear in my head 100%.

It is not a one trick pony by any means and is fully capable of creating any metal sound your in search of. Running my amp into a 1×12 or 4×12 only makes the sound even sweeter and does not sound flat at all just full rich sweet heavy metal bliss.

The pedal works equally well with 6 or 7 string guitars in multiple tunings. Thanks to AMS for fantastic service and thank you to Wampler pedals.

I have quite the collection of distortion pedals. Empress Heavy, Revv G4, EVH 5150, DD25, Diezel VH-2, Friedman BE-OD, Keely Filaments, Engl Reaper, Angry Charlie V3, Ds-1, Provo Rat along with a few more Wampler pedals.

Pinnacle Deluxe V2, Triple Wreck, Plexi Drive Deluxe etc. and though I love them all I can safely say that if I had to put one at the top it would be my Wampler Dracarys hands down. It’s just the best all around high gain distortion pedal I’ve ever had the pleasure of having at my feet.

Brian Wampler is a genius and I’m a fan of everything he’s ever designed. If you are in the market for an awesome, beefy, crunchy, saturated, high gain distortion pedal I would strongly recommend this one.

You will not be disappointed. 🤘.

Overall I am very happy with this pedal. I have a very compact and portable rig overall using the orange terror stamp, a boss sd-1 overdrive, and a mini noise gate all into my Harley benton 2×12. As much as I love the orange, sometimes I just need something different and something more.

And that’s where this dual distortion comes in. I play mostly rock and metal, and the dual distortion gives me loads of versatility especially paired with my orange. Pairing both of these hybrid valve products together create a very responsive and full tone that I have only ever heard from a full tube amp.

The cab rig system is fantastic for d. i. and is fully customizable if you have the proper USB type b(printer style cable) which this pedal does not come with. When I record I find that running a sort of stereo configuration where I use the d.

i. of the orange and the xlr cab rig d. i. of the dual distortion pair really well together and give me a very full and chunky tone. It also in a sense allows me to double track without actually double tracking.

All in all for my use as an experimental home studio artist as well as the occasional fill in for a band or just going and jamming with someone, this pedal fit my needs perfectly and fits in with my compact rig like a glove.

Well, sticking to the advertising and YouTube reveals, this pedal is awesome, does what they say ot does and what people will want from it. However there are some secret features that spoil *my* experience of it: 1.

No clean bypass – the superb cab sim is always on or always off. 2. With headphones the cab sim has a gorgeous room ambience, this is not present on the XKR outs, just the EQ ish bits. 3. At low gains it is very house due to high output volume settings.

4 Clean sounds (even with cabsim on) aren’t very good, likewise edge of break up (think Princeton on 4 1/2), it won’t “bark”. 5. It may well have les altency than an all digital box but it’s still there, the output isn’t immediate like a can or analog drive pedal.

But if you want what the videos show it is a truly great pedal.

The product is very well made and works as it should (I think. read on). But the documentation is minimal and explains nothing beyond the self-evident, the online support very poor and the forum pretty well dead.

I have a number of queries as to how to get the best out of the product and feel there is no place to turn to for any help. I must say I expected more of Blackstar, or perhaps I was a victim of their marketing? If you’re happy to fly solo with it fine, but if you want to go deeper, I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’ve been searching for the distortion and tone even in an amp for years. One of my favorite guitar tones is AFI’s “Sing the Sorrow” album. Blend of a Dual rec and a plexi. Its been a struggle finding the tone I’ve been searching for and I never thought it would be a drive pedal through a fender Deluxe Reverb.

Lots of gain on tap, from distortion to a pushed amp style drive. Didn’t even know about this pedal til a week ago and it’s gonna be on my board for good. It also responds well to different guitars going in.

I often find a strat could sound great in a pedal and then a humbucker guitar ends up wooly, and reverse issues the other way around. This sucker just sounds great. It also stacks really well. Whether its a klon a buddy built or a protein drive, it just takes other pedals going in and such a cool way.

Solid for leads or tight rhythms. Try one out!.

Bought this for low gain. Even with gain on zero and toggle down on a clean valve amp there was so much gain ! Also trying to get more mid area even made the gain more again? If you like lots of gain this is a pedal to think about.

However if you want low gain with no saturation and gain that increases rather than there a zero steer clear. Very disappointed.

Have the Dirty Shirley Pedal and BE-OD deluxe pedal. All provide different playing feel and have their own sound. A very good pedal, wider dirt range than the other two, with the BE-OD with heaviest distortion and least range.

very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren’t the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus.

the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can’t really go wrong with the big muff pi.

my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.

I recently visited Sam Ash after wanting to take my guitar playing to the next step. When I visited the store I asked the associate if the Boss SD-1 was in stock. He informed me that the OS-2 was available and that it included a distortion feature.

I asked if I could look at the item, and he explained thoroughly how the pedal worked. He never made any condescending conversation like other associates at other music stores have in the past, which I really appreciated.

Afterward he guided me to the XLR cables and supplied me with a power cord so I wouldn’t have to rely on 9V batteries. I couldn’t wait to try it out once I got home and it’s worked so well! I will definitely be going back.

Usual excellent quality all around you come to expect from Boss. Fantastic tones and highly recommend the combined overdrive and distortion unless you have plenty of room on your pedal board to indulge in separate pedals.

This pedal has very versatile settings with an amazing sound. I have a BC Rich Kerry King signature series guitar and a cheap little amp. The pedal is built to last and take some abuse sounds good with battery or plugged in.

The distortion rocks and overdrive is clean with many different sounds by adjusting the different knobs. I would recommend anyone who wants a good distortion pedal to try this out before you purchase any other pedal.

I wanted a high-quality transparent OD and have tried a few different varieties. I had seen a ton of good reviews and watched Josh’s YouTube vids about this many times, so I decided to try it out. I tested this with some random Tele + Marshall combo amp in the store and I thought it was pretty nice.

I got it home and tested with my own Tele and Fender Bassbreaker 007 (my main recording amp, which they did not have in the store) and it was. awful. It had gritty, annoying tone, even with the high-cut filter on.

I tried tweaking the controls for a what seemed like hours and simply could not get a good tone out of it. I A/B’d this with my current favorite OD, an old (vintage?) Danelectro Daddy-O, and much preferred the Daddy-O.

So while this pedal has great features, looks cool, and is built well, what matters is the tone, and that tone might not fit your guitar/amp combo. Sorry Josh!.

This little gem sounds amazing on my strat running through a little vox practice amp. Can’t wait to hear it on something more serious. Really nice chimey qualities, but what I liked most is the variability of gain and tone.

You can adjust it so that the crunch is always there, but is more responsive to your playing rather than always on, kinda hanging around in the background waiting for you to dig in. My only disappointment was that it didn’t come with the foot switch, which the description on GC website makes it seem like it does.

Otherwise this is a solid purchase.

Highly customizable and versatile dual reverb/delay, I like it a lot, but it takes some tweaking for me to like whatever it pumps out, not quite instant gratification like EHX’s own Cathedral reverb, among others.

It doesn’t sound as deep and spacious as the Cathedral either. Overall, it is well worth a try for anyone looking for some great reverb. The many settings can be saved in 24 presets for convenience, another big plus that I enjoy.

I’m not sure I’d recommend this to anyone wanting realistic reverbs, this thing easily goes into wacky and weird territory, the Fender Marine Layer is better at realism, for example. The Oceans 12 shimmer reverb is alright, the alternate mode is rather interesting and weird.

At least the regular shimmer isn’t as terribly aggressive as the Hall of Fame 2’s. It looks like it lacks a Hall reverb by looking at it, but it is actually an alternate mode of the Room mode and sounds quite nice and cavernous, and the Room mode can double as a pretty good alternate “hall” with its Time and Tone settings cranked up high anyway.

The mix level knob doesn’t get the sound overly wet as easily as the one on the Cathedral, and it can go 100% wet for effects loops use the way that I like. The spring reverb has some really sweet drip to it.

As far as using this for big ambient style reverbs, don’t. It sounds very low bitrate and digital on the longer trails. Almost has a stacked delay sound to it. I ended up keeping the pedal on the board while adding a much better reverb only because this pedal does more than reverb.

The reverse setting is fun and can be used live if you experiment with it first. But my favorite setting on this pedal is the tremolo reverb. Honestly, it’s the only reason I’ll be keeping the pedal.

So it wasn’t the reverb pedal I was expecting or hoping for, but it’s still useful.

Title says it all, and this reverb still gets 5 stars. You can’t really imagine how many unique sounds you can get out of combining 12 different reverbs, & you would never imagine the way they work together.

I’ve got a long bow sounding reverb, mixed with shimmer, & the shimmer cleans it up so much that I can pick some blues with great clarity, while having an electric orchestra like sound accompanying me, without getting in the way of my playing or muddying up the sound.

It’s really remarkable. You need to have some aptitude with this pedal, it clearly has some nobs & alt functions, so be willing to tweak a little, or read the manual. Although it’s also fairly simple to use, with basically 24 presets with the dual reverb.

It is rather small for all it does, but I’ve got big hands and have no problem with it. This is a no brainer, amazing studio quality reverbs in a pedal.

Will confess to not owning a bigmuff before. Have heard them plenty so decided why not try the latest-greatest version? What could go wrong, they have 50 years building this simple circuit device, and the ,gate Freq range/bass boost cut, sweepable q all seemed to be very usable features.

I think keep it simple stupid may be the path to follow in the future as my initial impression is that this example was not as open “stingy/sustain”y”” as the early m¥ffs my band mates used. maybe my ears have changed in 40 years of rock gtr? So what am I saying.

is a very good pedal but am slightly underwhelmed. Sustain and attack controls really do a nice bit of shaping and dialing in a paramedic type EQ and foot switching it is a great idea. Just had an expectation to hear a transparent type snap and this fuzz, seems a bit darker than I remember the ’80s ones.

Lots of interactive tone shapers so maybe I’ve not hit the right combo yet. My unit was a B stock and the 9v battery won’t function so maybe something else is going on with it as it has densely populated circuit board.

To be continued as I get more hours tweeking on it as I want to like it.

Best fuzz pedal I’ve ever used. Fantastic range of tones and unique features like the sweepable filter, can’t wait to try it with an expression pedal. Usual solid EH construction, filter footswitch a great idea.

All the classic Big Muff tones along with a whole lot more. Only tiny gripe is the usable range on the built in noise gat control, all the usable range seems to be in the first quarter of the sweep,buy one, you won’t regret it!!!.

So far this pedal is everything I was hoping for, it’s a big m u f f (musicians friend won’t let me say the name of a product) all the way but with a mid boost pedal built in. I love everything about it with the exception of the noise gate, honestly it was never a feature I really wanted in the pedal and could take it or leave it from the start but if you do intend to use it you should know that it works against one of the main features of the big m u f f and that’s sustain.

The gate knob may as well be an on/off switch due to the fact that it either cuts noise or doesn’t, there is no in between and its a really hard cut. With the sustain all the way up the gate will 100% of the time cut a sustained note long before you desired the note to end.

It’s flat out a terrible, useless feature and easily cured with a real gate/noise suppressor. Aside from that everything else about this pedal is top notch, with an expression pedal you can even simulate a cool fuzz wah using the mid boost, cranking the mids to full and the freq to around half.

Honestly great distortion, just ignore the gate.
