20 Best Guitar Pedals For Beginners (2023 Updated)

Bought this in a heartbeat to replace my Digitech Whammy IV, which is a fantastic pedal but lacks the sound quality and additional features of this latest version: the Whammy V. For the uninitiated: The Digitech Whammy is a versatile pitch-shifting, harmonizer, octave, drop-tune, and chorus pedal used extensively by at least one of your favorite pro guitarists: Johnny Greenwood, Tom Morello, Jack White, Matt Bellamy, Buckethead, and countless others.

I use it not just to replicate parts of their songs–Johnny’s +2-octave riff in “Just”, the solo in “Like a Stone”, the “bass” line in “Seven Nation Army”–but in plenty of my own songs, both live and in the studio.

The construction is solid and designed for both touring and in-studio use–durable but not too heavy, big but not obnoxious. Next, the upgrades: This new Whammy comes with two huge improvements. The first is true-bypass switching.

Previous models are well known for being tone-sucking beasts, and although there is still a noticeable change in your sound when this latest version is on, when it’s off it’s off. The other massive upgrade is polyphonic tracking while pitch-shifting, which means it can shift entire chords up or down without sounding glitchy or garbled (e.

g. , “My Iron Lung”). For people who like that glitchy Whammy IV sound and want the option to use it, there’s now a Classic/Chords switch which lets you do just that. On the cosmetic side, Digitech renamed a few modes, reorganized the layout, and brought back the Whammy logo on the expression pedal.

All of these upgrades are godsends for long-time users. Finally, the drawbacks: First, as always, there is no “intelligent” harmonizer setting, so you’re still limited to choosing an interval–4th, 5th, 7th–and not a key–Bb, C#, E–for your harmonies.

Also, this latest version keeps the MIDI jack but ditches the dry output, which is a bummer. Overall, the Whammy V is a phenomenal improvement over the IV and a unique pedal in its own right. 5/5.

Overall: Finally got another Whammy V after missing my prior one in a “stupid-sell all-great new multi unit dumb idea”. Not sure what to say about this pedal as it would seem of the many vids I have seen on it, I cast doubt if anyone really can understand how to use it without having one for a time.

I constantly hear this “weeeeoooo” thing and really that might be of use now and then but what nails this pedal for me is the harmonizer mode section. 8va’s and 4ths,5ths, utterly amazing. This is not so much a moving the pedal thing as everyone seems to want to do.

Most of th etime mine is parked up or dwn for a specific harmony or maybe a sweep of low to high octave, play a version of Dazed and Confused using this and you may just never be the same. The lowered 5th harmonizer mode on this puppy is probably one of the best all time tones I have ever had the pleasure of playing.

A harmonizer, with no set key or scale restriction, polyphonic tracking, true bypass, I’d pay more just for that. The DT model is cool but I am not really doing step tuning variants. Anyway, this pedal is sooooo much better than what you will hear being done on typical vids.

Mastering this puppy will afford you a range of really cool tone possibilities nothing else can muster. Those who hate this pedal suffer from the terrible videos of it or the old models that glitch and burble from only being monophonic tracking.

The buffer has been removed and this is improved poly tracking tech! Full bandwidth 1M ohm and out. Simply no comparison tech wise to the previous models.

This was an impulse buy for me but a very satisfying one. I have never gotten so many hours of cheap entertainment from one pedal. The 2 octave up mode lets me do over the top pantera guitar screams and the shallow detune effect on classic mode gives a very pleasant modulated chorusy effect (for doing songs like rooster by alice in chains it sounds quite similiar).

The shallow detune effect is also great with distortion it reminds me of the song planets collide by crowbar and its quite psychadelic. Sometimes i switch it into the chord mode and put the whammy mode down a perfect 4th and i get instant djent satisfaction.

You can also add a bass harmony or any kind of harmony really and create something totally unique. In conclusion I was hesitant about buying this pedal for a while but now that I have it I can say I will probably always have it on my pedalboard at gigs because it adds so much flavor to the sound as well as entertainment, enjoyment, and utility.

Pedal is ok but in hindsight would prefer a pedal without volume controls or EQ so that these can be controlled from amp or guitar ie: overdrive controls only.

The pedal does make some terrific sounds. However, with a single coil guitar it is very noisy. I bought a noise gate that solves the problem.

I already had a cheaper 10 band EQ pedal but it was a bit noisy and this pedal has more headroom. I bought this to shape a perfect tone and volume profile for my acoustic guitar. I run a Gibson LP and a Taylor acoustic through the same pedal board and then into the mixer.

Using the M108S enables me to match the outputs of both guitars in the mix. I used to use different channels on a Katana 100 but kept forgetting to switch channels during a gig. The M108S is much better at shaping the Taylor’s tone than the Katana and the strong blue lights make it impossible not to know when it’s turned on.

I now don’t have to lug my Katana to gigs. Delivery time was faster than a fast thing going fast – Win!.

Bought this in place of a pre amp pedal I had for my bass. After a complete overhaul (New amp and pedals) I realised the pre amp pedal I add was there to add a little more attack to the sound. I did the sensible thing – offloaded the pre amp pedal and bought this.

Oh my word! What a revelation. The bottom end on my bass now is solid, it adds all the right elements to complete the sound through the amp. It helps maintain the integrity of the low frequencies when I use fuzz, distortion or overdrive.

Being able to cut the mids and boost at 800hz gives me the best sounding attack on bass. I love my Orange amp, but this has allowed me to fine tune and sculpt the sound further. Love it!.

Product is great. PMT however, are a bunch of crooks. Purchased from PMT Northampton, paid £117. 99, got home and noticed box says £104. 99. Thought the price must have gone up, no big deal. Then I noticed online it was £85!! Basically by going out of my way to support my local store, I got charged an extra £32.

99! Emailed PMT, was told they don’t normally price match (not really a price match when I’m asking them to match their own prices) but will provide me with a gift card for the extra I paid. Waited a few weeks and now given up waiting.

All I can say is, good luck PMT, you’ll need all the luck you can get with the way you guys conduct yourselves.

I purchased this effect pedal with much trepidation. I previously owned one of DigiTech’s Whammy pedals, I believe it was a Whammy 4 Pedal if memory serves. It was a POS, died within’ 6 months of purchase.

I’ve owned many DOD and DigiTech products over the decades, some have been amazing in sound and durability, others NOT SO Much. I gotta say I’m enjoying this pedal. I can visualize several areas that could be improved upon as I study and utilize this design.

That being said, if you can afford one check it out. It is to soon to tell if this one will be worth the investment, but I am pleased that it sounds great, doesn’t mess overly so with my audio signal flow though I did have to select “DSP ByPass” to keep noise at a minimum and so the pedal would ‘Play well with others’.

That setting works fine for my needs. There are several musical situations where I have implemented this pedal with great success, mostly in creating loops that act as ‘ back ground washes or atmospheres’ for over dubbing melodic ideas.

Built Like a Tank. Fingers crossed I’m hoping it is a solid sound investment and NOT an Expensive Paperweight. Time will tell.

This pedal is terrific. Very easy to learn and intuitive. It has two sides: on the left, you have your whammy/harmony effects, with some nice chorus-y sounding detune effects thrown in for good measure.

On the right, you have your detune effects where you can go up or down seven semitones, or a full octave higher or lower, with or without dry signal. This means you can instantly take your standard tuned guitar down to C, or B, or hell, even A if you’re TRVLY CVLT.

You can play an octave lower with dry signal and voila, you now have a bassline running underneath your guitar. I bought this pedal because I love whammy effects, and originally was going to buy the Whammy 5, but this is that pedal PLUS the detune effects.

This is especially useful with Floyd Rose or other floating bridge guitars. We all know what a pain in the @$$ those things are to tune.

I have owned a few MIAB style pedals and this one if by far one of my favorites for my use (tied with the Barber compact Direct Drive. ) This is a compact, heavy little beast of a pedal and it sounds fantastic both used in combination with my Marshall Origin 20 combo, and my Boss Waza Air headphones.

Some of the posititve: – Compact – Well built – Cleans up well with the volume control – Very close to the actual Plexi sound – Several different sound options selectable via the internal DIP switches Some of the negative: – Knobs are very close together and a little difficult to adjust even with my smallish fingers.

– The DIP switches are located internally so it requires removing the back of the unit to change.

I’ve had the SL drive for awhile now and try as I might I can’t find anything that can kick it off my board. I’ve tried numerous other amp in a box pedals(Marshall and otherwise),overdrives and distortions but I keep coming back to this little guy.

I guess I keep trying because I find it hard to believe that a pedal this small and this inexpensive(relatively) can’t be outdone. I use this in conjunction with a standard Tumnus and the 2 together just can’t be beat for me and I’m done spending $ trying.

This unit is just incredible. I’ve been playing since the early 70’s and with all the equipment that I’ve owned I really think the GT100 has possibly impressed me more than anything I’ve bought! There’s some wonderful preset sounds in this tone monster and it’s easy to edit the one’s that you like.

If you’re already proficient at programming pedals then this one will be a dream for you to manipulate. This isn’t my first multi effects pedal but I don’t enjoy programming and this is by far the easiest to program of the one’s I’ve owned.

I can’t say enough about the sound of this thing. It has every tone that you could ever need. It’s extremely quiet too. I’m definitely glad that I made this purchase. I can see a lasting relationship building!.

After using an HD500x for a couple of years, I finally bought the unit that I had wanted in the first place, but been talked out of by a (justifiably) enthusiastic Line 6 fan in my circle of musical collaborators.

The choice between that and the GT-100 is largely a matter of subjective taste. Neither is , of course, the very latest technology , yet both can yield impressive results. I have to say, though, that the Boss unit is immediately more to my liking.

I will continue to use the Line 6 unit, of course, which is claimed by fans to model branded amps and effects more accurately, and gives very fine control over every sound parameter I can imagine. However, to my ears (playing through a very basic Fender Blues Jr.

) the Boss sounds more open and natural. It has many more preset patches that I would personally be comfortable using out-of-the-box. And for when I do need to edit a patch, I find the interface clearer and more intuitive.

Had it for about 6 months now, and past the honeymoon stage. The effects sound great. I dont think you can beay them, especially in this price range. The amp models are decent,but take a lot of tweaking to sound really good.

My biggest issues are with the interface on the pedal. It’s awkward to impossible to adjust anything “on the fly”. A lot of features aren’t very intuitive. The tap tempo,for example, is almost hidden.

The Tone Studio software is great, and is really the only way to comfortably and intuitively tweak anything, and there’s some cool artist presets available, which you’ll need because all of the included presets are garbage.

The sensitivity for the expression pedal on/off is adjustable,but even on the lowest sensitivity, it’s hard to active in a sitting position. This wasn’t a pedal I pulled out of the box and immediately enjoyed, but once I started working with the tone studio software, and being able to dial in tones without going through a dozen screens on the pedal, I started to love this thing.

It can do a lot of stuff, but is inhibited by the poor interface on the pedal. And several features aren’t very intuitive at first. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is this reason. You’ll need to spend some time with it, but it’s worth it in the end.

I have a rig that I love, but got tired of tap dancing on stompboxes. With the added feature of being able to use this as a footswitch for your amp (if it has a simple a/b switch),this thing can replace your whole pedalboard unless you’re really into boutique pedals.

Basically, if you like boss pedals, this thing is like having all of them. It’s not going to replace your amp, though. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of the interface on the pedal, it’s too much digging through menus.

I own a lot of different multi-effects pedals, from the humble Zoom G1on up through the bleeding-edge Kemper Stage Profiler. The Boss ME-80 is a “middle-end” offering that has some compelling features – and some non-trivial drawbacks – to offer.

First the good: the pedal itself is sturdily built, with whole bunch of high-quality footswtiches, plus an assortment of dials and buttons for you to physically tweak parameters on the variety of effects on offer.

However, there’s a free, downloadable editor/librarian that makes it easy to do that stuff without having to bend over, plus it gives you access to a wide variety of community-generated patches and tweaks online that you can download directly into any of the user-modifiable slots in the ME-80’s non-volatile memory.

When in “manual” mode, you have SEVEN footswitches available to toggle effects on and off, plus an expression pedal. Egg in your beer? No – but this pedal can be powered by any 9-volt adapter or by 6 AA batteries, whiich makes it perfect for sidewalk buskers or jams in the park (assuming you also have a battery-powered amp, of course).

The bad news is that all of the effects and most of the “pre-amps” (what Boss calls their amp models) are based on Boss or Roland gear, so, if you’re going to buy this pedal, you’d better be a Boss devotee.

Also, the tape echo model has a maximum 500-millisecond delay, which I don’t like at all. Nor is that effect anywhere near as failthful to the tonal characteristics of the Maestro Echoplex II I loved so well in the 19980’s and 90’s as is even the Digitech RP-1000 – or the Zoom G1onX, for that matter.

Nor are most of the ME-80’s effects of modern studio quality (although they’re probably fine for most bar or small club gigs). And, although Boss includes a set of batteries with the pedal, you’ll have to buy a 9-volt AC power supply separately.

I bought it to give myself more flexibility for switching effects on and off than my Zoom G1Xon (which can also be battery-powered) gives me in jamming or performing al fresco, where there’re no AC outlets available.

It’s very nice for that. Oh, and while it’s been hard to find a new ME-80 at less than the $299 “street price,” with the holidays coming up, look for significant discounts from all the big online retailers as Black Friday sales start kicking in.

This multi effects pedal does everything I could ask and more. It’s like having a huge collection of boss pedals to turn on and off and adjust with real dials on command. It’s so simple to use, and once you find sounds you like you can save them and program them into memory mode and just press the pedals to switch to your presets.

The metal construction makes this feel very high quality. Even if you don’t get frustrated programming modern petals (like I do), it’s so nice to be able to tweak your sound on command. Before you buy this, I’d recommend watching one of the many in-depth videos on YouTube that demo this to see what you’re getting.

It’s not your average pedal. I watched one that was like 20 minutes long and learned how to do everything it can do. It sounds great through my amps, but it sounds amazing with my audio technica headphones which I do quite often so I can play at all hours.

For my needs, it’s perfect and I can’t say enough good things about it!.

This is a second time purchase, I had to sell the first one years ago, so I knew what I was getting. It’s a good FX pedal, but not great. Good value pedal certainly, many fx in one unit. You can dial in some great sounds.

I don’t do any gigs, so it suits me. So why only 4 stars ? The battery life isn’t good, you’d need to have this unit plugged in to a DC power supply (FX pedal board) to be sure of no let down. The various modulations selector isn’t a click stop, such is the nature of these pedals.

It’s robust enough for private use, but the housing is plastic (very strong) not sure it would cope without being on a pedal board. The battery (standard 9v) isn’t easy to install (if in a hurry) pressing the pedal side lugs without scratching the case is the thing, not an issue if you aren’t in a rush, but use a ball point pen to do this.

The weight of the pedal is very good, it stays put and feels nice. It selects well with no clunk, the led is sufficient for on/off (in or bypass) and battery level (that is a challenge lol) It’s stereo, this really would sound good in use.

Input one is also power on/off (not sure you’d want to keep unplugging, I forget to, battery wasted lol) The pedal isn’t too bad at all noise wise, although I’m not sure how good it would perform at high volume levels.

All in all not too bad, especially price wise (I had worse) and the FX obtainable are good. In a studio and recording then this unit hits the mark, live gigs. not sure. If you want value then you will get that for sure, just don’t forget to buy the plug in power unit, save buying batteries.

You absolutely can’t beat the value here for a stereo multi pedal for guitar. The Behringer FX600 does wonderful things for $35-$50. It has a very useable delay that swaps left and right signals for a pong or two before settling to both channels.

The tremolo does not pan but does have a good “shape?” control (par2) that lets you dial in a good range of tremolos. The chorus is growing on me, though I’m not a fan of chorus typically. If you use an ABY with a phase switch you owe it to yourself to waste the money on this.

The phaser seems to run a completely dry signal on channel B. The delay will make one amp “follow” the other at an interval set by the time setting. The flanger seems to alternate panning high and low between left and right, and will pan between amps with one amp selected.

The signals cross over from A to B and back in a lot of settings but are separate and truly stereo. It has some very fun and unique functions if you get creative. No you can’t program it, but it’s so cheap! There are no volume drops or pops when you turn it on.

The level coming in is the level coming out. I run 8 pedals on my board and no noise gate. This pedal adds zero noise. I use an isolated ABY and fully isolated power supply. Sound quality is fantastic honestly.

The only down side I see isno expression pedal out, but seriously for $35 how can I even say that? It’s amazing that Behringer doesn’t charge $150 for it. Buy one before they do, if only to use in the bedroom with a couple 9v amps, worth it.

This did not disappoint and sounds as good as helix and other way more expensive units. Limitless possibilities with custom ir loading and awesome effects. Plenty of people are making great presets you can load in.

Some of the factory presets are pretty bad considering how good you can make it sound. Using it for recording and it is the best in its price range. Before this i had a nux mg300 and it also sounded great but with a lot less features.

This was a major upgrade in functionality. The effects are great and the only drawback is the limit on how many effect blocks you can use at one time. There’s plenty of room to make great sounds though.

And the effects loop lets you potentially route a whole pedal board or effects unit and assign those effects to a switch. Very glad i bought this. I got it slightly used for 350 bucks. Anyone who says this is complicated just doesn’t get how it works.

I hook it up to my laptop and it has a huge display and is super intuitive. You choose your amp and cab and the effects going before the amp lime od EQ or whatnot and put reverbs and delays after the amp.

Just like you would do on a real amp. Tweak your settings and press the save icon and confirm and its saved how you want it. I think good ir is better than their cabs by a little but the cabs sound great with the right mics etc for the sound you are after.

I was looking at purchasing a Helix LT and upon researching I came across the Pod Go Wireless. It does everything I required from the Helix but at less than half the price, size and weight. You can dial in some great tones, I use it through an 80w Marshall combi straight into the FX return (turning off the cab sim on the Pod) and it sounds very impressive.

The amount of effects to choose from is incredible and you can tweak so many variables to get that perfect tone. The wah treadle is very good but it’s not so great when used as a volume pedal as it doesn’t seem to gradually increase/decrease the volume, it’s almost on/off.

The wireless feature is very good, I’ve not had any connection issues and don’t have to worry about treading on my cable, which I’m very prone to. Overall, for what I need in a jamming/garage band capacity it is perfect and I’m very, very pleased with the purchase.

PMT delivered the next day, it was very well packaged and was the best price I found on the internet.

Although I did quite a bit of research on the product, there was a limitation that wasn’t made in clear in the various reviews I’d read. Although you have 9 editable blocks in the signal chain, you can only use 4 to add in effects of your choosing.

2 are reserved for volume/wah pedals, 2 for amp and cabinet and a final 1 for an equaliser. However, there is also an effects loop for adding in external hardware effects. One more thing to consider is that the signal processing chain is linear – you can’t split it like you can with, eg the Helix Floor or LT.

Not deal-breakers for me, but should be considered if you’re thinking of getting one. The unit itself is solidly built and the interface is pretty intuitive considering the complexity of the system. Updating the firmware (which added a number of additional effects) was easy – download the Line 6 Updater software, connect via USB, and it’ll do it all automagically.

The other bit of software to use with it is Pod Go Edit, also available for free from Line 6’s website. Pod Go Edit is basically a computer-based version of the Pod Go editing facilities which lets you load/edit/save effect chains and, if you have your Pod Go connected with USB, any changes made will be immediately reflected on the hardware itself.

It’s all very easy to use. The effects themselves are brilliantly modelled, and there’s a LOT of them. There’s a wide variety of presets included so you can have a good play even before you get into editing things yourself.

Great bit of kit overall.

I actually bought this used from Guitar Center in Maple Grove, Minnesota. it looked extremely new. I use this for playing live in a cover band and also every other weekend in church. What I love about this is the depth of the configurations that all my previous pedals couldn’t do.

The freedom to assign ALL the footswitches to do practically ANYTHING you want is awesome. There are still things I find out it can do every few days. Sounds are very good. I have to say the distorted Leslie speaker Rotary is the closest approximation of the real thing I have ever heard.

Think “Nantucket Sleighride” by Mountain. One thing I was disappointed with was the omission of XLR outputs. it seems like there is a trend in the industry that is starting to omit these. Seems the quality /consistency of the XLR out circuits can be very different from manufacturer to manufacturer.

and the sound engineers are getting disgusted with this issue.

The variety of sounds possible through the GX-100 is truly stunning, and the quality of many of them is excellent. There are quite a few I doubt I’d ever use, but that’s probably true for anyone who buys it, and it’ll be a different few for almost everyone.

One drawback for someone (like me) with no experience using effects pedals is that it’s not at all intuitive to figure out which sounds come from which effects, especially within a given preset loaded with as many sounds as will fit.

I’ve had it now a few weeks and I’m starting to understand how to use it, but found that things I imagined would be simple to achieve are much more complex than I’d thought, or just not possible. Still the promise of getting a handle on the unit’s flexibility and power encourages me that it’ll be useful for a good long time.

Das Gx 100 lässt sich mit der 4 kabel Methode an den Katana anschließen und in den Einstellungen anwählen was ich sehr gut finde ! Viele patches sind vorgegeben lassen sich aber nach belieben ganz easy ändern, da ich auch in nem bunker mucke mache und öfters den Sound anpassen muss oder will brauchte ich was mit dem ich flexibel Einstellungen treffen kann, der katana kann das nur am PC , der gx sogar mit Bluetooth und dem dazu gehörigen Bluetooth Teil das es separat zu kaufen gibt.

Ansonsten , Touch und Bedienfeld find ich geil kann ich nicht meckern. Ich würde es weiter empfehlen ,definitiv So ich spiel ma weiter ???????? Letz Rock.

I replaced my trusty and awesome T. C. Electronic Nova System which so faithfully served me on my pedal board for more than 10 years and 100’s of shows, with this beast of a machine. I’m loving the HX Stomp as the effects brain on my board.

And would recommend it for any musician who wants to do more with less and downsize their effects pedal board. Now while this is a fantastic amp modeler and IR box, I’m using with my Marshall Jubilee 2525H and Marshall 1960A 4×12 cab with V30’s.

This mostly serves as my effects machine, but every so often I do run a preamp amp into my FX loop to get the Fender, Vox, Friedman BE or Soldano preamp sound thru my Marshall’s power section, keeping tubes in the mix.

In the future I plan to use the modeler + IR config for anything theater-based or in a touring rig where I have limits to weight and size when traveling.

I bought this unit before my band went on tour in Europe in 2017 because the other guitarist and I were looking for something to ensure we had a workable tone no matter what type of head we were running through.

And, because we were going to Europe, research revealed that the power cord actually converts the power supply to the appropriate voltage no matter where you are – and you can actually get a pack of line-6 adaptors that snap on so you can plug it into whatever the local power supply requires.

During this tour, we would bypass the guitar pre-amp by running from the output into the “return” of the FX loop – we used the Soldano SLO100 amp modeling – good enough to get the job done. It worked great, and was easy set-up tear down.

Having been able to play with this a little more since that time – I’ve actually used it to replace my fx rack for US shows – and just use it like a pedal board in my fx loop. Also, I now have three banks set up with my tones that are ready for: 1.

direct into a sound board (i. e. head/cab modeling on with fx); 2. bypassing the pre-amp of a head (i. e. just head modeling with fx), 3. and for use in the fx loop (no modeling, just fx). Basically I’m ready for any situation – including blowing a head on stage (which happened to me) – -where you could grab the mic cable out of the back of the microphone and plug it into Firehawk’s XLR jack using the bank with amp/cab modeling.

Also the tones are infinitely tweakable using a smart phone. And the cloud server has been nice, as the guitarist and i can trade tones pretty quickly. A few other things – the back pack for the line 6 helix fits this, with enough space to put my Engl Powerball II’s foot controller, and all my cables and wireless system, as well.

Also, this is rugged as hell – as it survived multiple trans-Atlantic flights, TSA searches and being moved in and out of a stuffed tour van for a month. It’s a good tool for a gigging musician. We’re using these onstage in video.

When I first got the FHFX in Oct of 2015 I really liked it, the sounds were usable and the ease of editing was second to none. However as Murphy’s law goes, “Whatever can break down will break down”.

Back in Aug. it stared to act up, the mix level for the delay was changing all on it’s own, going from 27%ish to 40%+ making the repeats jump out so loud that people were looking at me like I farted or something.

Called L6 and was told they haven’t had any reports of this happing from other FHFX owners and was told to try a reboot, but it’s a hardware issue not a software issue and to send it in there’s a bench fee to analyze the unit that’s 1/3 the cost of the unit and that doesn’t cover the repair cost.

Started a thread on L6 FHFX page to see if other’s were having this problem and some were starting to have the same thing happen. If I step on the footswitch for the patch it resets the level, but shortly after it goes back up, so now I use the FX knob and match the level that was set too, I can still see it changing on the main knob (LED’s change to white) but it stays at where I put it, it’s a real hassle to keep bending over to correct it.

That said I’m most likely going to buy another one since the price is right compared to other processors out there. Just wanted to give a heads-up.

The HD models sounds excellent in the unit. Programming through an iOS device is somewhat easy to do. I say somewhat easy because the effect parameters do not always correlate to what the actual pedal would be.

For example, in the Uni-vibe model there is a rate (in Hz) setting in addition to tap tempo and which note the effect will occur on, then mix level, and depth. The settings seem more correlated to the model algorithm rather than WYSIWYG stomp box.

It takes some getting used to and certainly is a barrier to getting good tone. The modulation is general seems off. I did A/B testing with the U-Vibe and tremolos against real pedal and they all sounded way off.

Almost like the modulation clipped instead of having the soft rounded peaks the pedals have. Using the app is very easy and fun to jam with backing tracks. Everything sounds great and it is a great practice tool for people who can get over the modulation gap.

However, I play with a lot of Univibe and tremolo, so my unit is getting returned.

It’s not marketed as a bass pedal, but. It is surprisingly effective for a lead-guitar-ish sound with the bass. I’ve tried a bunch of distortion and fuzz pedals, and think that this one is more balanced and natural sounding than many out there.

It does killer harmonics without going over the top. It sings on the high strings, and power chords sound massive. On the 5-string descending below G it starts to get a little synthy sounding, but not necessarily in a bad way.

It’s a good product at a great price. Haven’t had time to try it at gig levels yet, but I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Excellent value IMO. Relatively quiet for analog high gain dirt pedal. Nice tone.

This is truly one of the top five overdrive and/or distortion pedals on the market currently. And what with the recent announcement that Fulltone are ceasing production from their California factory, they won’t be around forever.

Way more gain on tap that a Tubescreamer or Klone, that will push a driven amp into high gain distortion. Don’t even think about it, buy one while you still can.

Great sounding and quite unique drive. Plenty of tonal options in the range of gain and tone. I prefer the lp setting as it’s a bit ‘smoother’ to my ears but hp is fun for a bit of higher gain. Not sure if its better or worse than the other versions.

TBH, with different guitars, amps and playing you’re heading more than just subtle differences in the output stage of the circuit. The designer is a horrible human being. Great pedal though.

This pedal is so good I decided to buy a second one as backup! Although it isn’t perhaps as hi-fi as some other pedals, it creates a pleasing tone, shifts accurately and is fully polyphonic. In my opinion it is far better than the pitch shifting in the Helix (which was a surprise).

When used with more extreme settings for lowering the octave I notice a small amount of lag between hitting a note and the sound being produced, but I can certainly live with it (and it’s possible to compensate for this to some extent by blending in some original signal too).

Lots of very interesting and useful settings, some of which are slightly hidden away (so RTFM!) such as a setting for the portamento (the amount of time it takes for pitch to slide to the chosen setting).

It’s also possible to use an expression pedal for more traditional whammy effects. This one of my favourite pedals for its ability to add extra colour to chords and octave jumps but you can also use it for faux-12 string effects, instant drop tuning, chorus and more.

I have many pedals folks, ALL of them top sellers, highest rated, and even many boutique. I did NOT buy this pedal out of any major pedal needs. Most of the amps I own have spring and other reverb settings I like and need for playing the blues, country, and rock I like.

I bought this pedal for two precise reasons: I wanted analog reverb for my Laney Ironheart 30w all tube 1×12, because it is a great sounding and extremely versatile amp that can do literally ANYTHING well, but it has horrible, weak digital reverb (WHY did they do that?).

I also wanted switchable overdrive paired with reverb options for my Fender Bassbreaker 45w 2×12 rock and blues monster tank, because the amp is a reverb-less delight that also comes with no foot switch for its clean and bright channels.

I watched the demos on the pedal that were out there and here, and started to get a good feeling. Wow, was this Turnip Greens the pedal to buy! Not only did it meet my specific needs for these two otherwise killer amps with their deficits, it also is one of the most useful and great sounding pedals in my handsome and expensive collection.

The Holy Grail Max Reverb with 4 different “base” settings is to die for, and the Soul food OD is deliciously nasty, with great finger, pick, and attack response, for enticingly edgy leads or cutting-through rhythm.

The input/output jack options, and switchable directionality of effects is totally useful, the large user-friendly controls so tweak-able for dialing in your own personally-tailored sound. I plugged this in to test it on a Vox AV-60 1×12 with a LP Traditional ax I am really digging lately, and I was so absorbed with the tones I was getting, that hours went by and I even skipped eating dinner.

I finally shut everything down to use the bathroom, walking past my Zen cat audience on a music high sitting on the floor in front of my amp, and I said to myself: Why didn’t I buy this pedal before this? I will now view other EHX products more seriously.

Buy it.

This pedal is awesome! A Holy Grail reverb combined with a Soul Food overdrive in one neat package for less money than the two would cost individually. A no-brainer!

Great pedal! Stellar reverb, really nice to have options in one unit. The spring and plate reverbs are over the top and easily compete with any Fender spring reverb out there. The overdrive is also amazing.

You can go from sparkling, chime cleans to a saturated growl and everything between. I use this and an Alter Ego tape delay for FX and that’s it. covers all the bases. Great for performance and also records beautifully!!! Thanks EHX!!!.
