20 Best Ground Cover For Playground (2023 Updated)

Letting you all know, Aldi had this same size bag for $5.49 this week! $40 less than this similar product. My small job requires 40 of these bags. Can you imagine paying almost $2,000 for that?

Although expensive compared to others, I still went ahead and ordered 20 bags. The coverage that is stated is incorrect! 20 bags only covered a smidge of my area. The biggest disappoint though is the color difference (unable to see with the pic).

The majority of the mulch is brown, but there were about two bags that were much darker. It is VERY noticeable in the area. I’ve been looking elsewhere for less expensive bags (and they are out there for 1/2 the price) to complete my beds.

Only problem is I’m late in the process. Also the communication with shipping to the store was poor. I was never notified that my purchase arrived at the store.

This mulch was rough. There were huge pieces of rubber in it and it faded to black after the first week. Definitely not worth the purchase price. Very disappointed.

I bought these to replace traditional mulch on the path to my garden gate. I opened the box and pulled it out (it comes rolled) and it tore. Not off to a great start. I shoveled off the old mulch and laid them down(I bought two, wide path) hoping that laying flat would be sturdier(they are advertised as “permanent).

No, they are horrible. They ripped more as I was laying them down and if you stand on it and walk it rips. If you dig your toe in (like carpet) it rips. I don’t know if these are old stock and dry rotted or made wrong, but it’s a sin for Plow and Hearth to be selling these! Do not buy these!.

To be fair, we have our gardens amidst a very unruly “lawn”. We don’t invest in expensive grass upkeep and we don’t use any pesticides. 1)Therefore there are weeds growing straight out of this mulch mat.

It’s even worse than no mat because when I pull up the weeds, I can’t get the roots. 2) It falls apart easily when you handle it. 3) it’s expensive. It took 3 days for the burned rubber smell to dissipate, which would not be a big deal, if we were otherwise happy with the product.

This is by far the most regretable gardening purchase I have ever made. That’s saying a lot, as I’m 61 years old.

I used this where grass won’t grow. I have used mulch mat for 15 years. My only and biggest complaint, when I started using, it was back with a fabric weed barrier. IT WAS FABULOUS. I never had anything grow through it.

My first “expensive” round with this brand was ‘trashed’. I didn’t think about the missing fabric, and when I went to take it up and put fabric down first it tore up. Waste of money. Now I have learned – Put a double layer of really good weed fabric down first.

Hey MFG – this would be 5+ Stars and World Class if it had a really good weed barrier fabric backing!.

IšverstiShow in original languageI had looked around a lot of different product to cover the ground for the playground (ex. Rubber mat, sand, rubber mulch). This item was most affordable compared to other ones with a lot of good reviews.

I bought 60 bags ($745 inc tax) to cover 270sqft playground. I was so satisfied with the quality of safety it provides and it looked nice! Unfortunately, I couldn’t upload the photo as it says file too large but I definitely recommend this if anyone is looking for something to put for playground.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is an amazing product for the gardens. You can top it up in the Spring to freshen it up but for the most part, it’s not disappearing like a wood mulch. It’s a great idea for houses or areas where there’s a termite or carpenter ant infestation.

I would have given this a rating of 5+ but I’ve used it in walking areas and I’ve had a few wires (in the treads) pierce my feet. It wasn’t anything serious but I’d be careful before using this on a playground.

95 instead 28. 00. I feel I got riped off. Although I got free shipping it was over priced.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought two supersacks of the black mulch to complete landscaping projects around our home. We live in an extremely windy area so I was a bit unsure if it would stay put but so far it has proved to be awesome! Pros: You would think it would be hot and hold heat but it’s actually the opposite.

For reference, our dog lays on it to stay cool! Looks great! Easy to work with Doesn’t blow in the wind. It does get kicked out by the kids and dogs but overall stays put. Cons: WEAR GLOVES! I know that metal pieces can be in there but I learned the hard way that they are in there after I pulled a two inch wire from my hand.

Smell- they say it’s odorless but it smells like ground up tires (because they are ground up tires). It’s not offensive or strong enough for me not to purchase again, but possibly a helpful note if that smell is very bothersome to some people.

And maybe it fades a bit? Overall, I like the look and would recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to deal with wood chips!.

IšverstiShow in original languageWe received the rubber mulch in just over a week of placing the order. We ordered the Mocha Brown color which blends in with the surroundings beautifully. The mulch was extremely easy to lay and clean.

If you are familiar with regular mulch, then you know that you are normally filthy after laying it. The rubber mulch is extremely heavy compared to regular mulch, which we believe in the long run will be a very good thing.

We were even able to use our backpack blower to blow leaves out and the rubber mulch itself did not move around. We have received so many compliments from friends and family. Great product at a practical price considering it will last for years.

We would recommend this product.

Have covered several landscape projects with this over the past several years and I love it! Doesn’t break down like bark mulch and keeps gardens looking nice and neat. Have it on a path as well. Easy to walk on other than our path is angled so it does get moved around in a strong rainstorm but easy to move back into place.

Plan to buy more this year to finish one more garden area. I thought it was a clever use of old rubber tires. Beats going g to the landfill.

I have bought many bags of this black rubber mulch for my very large gardens. The colour does not fade over the years I have not had to top up with anymore mulch as I would have to do with natural mulch.

This mulch works great to keep the weeds out and to keep the moisture in the ground for all my plants to thrive. I bought more of this mulch recently as I made my gardens bigger and needed more. The bags are lightweight and the mulch is so easy to spread and covers a good amount of area.

My husband purchased these and my small dog ate one and it got lodged in her digestive tract and almost killed her. $6000 later my dog had surgery and is recovering and I am now hiring someone to remove every last trace of it from my property.

Not to mention environmental aspects of purchasing this product. Terrible product !!!!.

I’m terrible at using mulch and I wanted to install something around my small trees that I’ve recently planted that looked good, was easy to install and would help with mowing. I think I got all three with this product.

I was worried if I had bought too large a diameter ring, but after installation, they are perfect. Installing is easy as I just laid the ring around my trees, used a spade to cut the turf around the ring.

Picked up the ring and removed the turf. After a month, they stay in place without any means to hold down. The rubber can tear if you don’t treat them carefully when they are not in place. After installed, they are working as I hoped.

I need to purchase a couple more.

I have a Cleveland Select Pear Tree that sends out numerous off shoots around it’s base. I’ve tried cutting back and treating these off shoots with different products with little or no success. This time I cut back the shoots & covered the shoots with the rubber tree ring.

Yesterday, I checked under the mat to discover that only a few shoots had popped up and they were soft and easily cut away with kitchen sheers rather than pruners. I’m so pleased, I choose this tree ring.

When I called to order this tree ring, I was told by the order taker that it was a heavy, quality product. Because of her description, I made the purchase. I couldn’t be happier!.

I bought two of these for my mom about three or four years ago and they are still in great shape and doing their job to keep the weeds down around trees she has growing in her lawn. Not a single weed has been able to grow through and they still look great!.

The only maintenance was to cut the central hole a little larger this year because the trees had grown, and this was easily accomplished using pruning shears. I just bought 4 more for some baby fruit trees that I planted in the lawn.

No need for the mower to mow close to the tree and damage the bark. My only complaint was that one ripped too easily when I pulled it out of the box. However, once installed it still looked fine and the rip did not affect the performance because of the weed barrier that is attached to the bottom.

We plan on completing the mulch around the perimeter of our home, since we don’t have to buy wood mulch yearly and this maintains it color and doesn’t break down over time. It was initially a larger investment than the typical wood mulch, but the long-term return on our investment makes it worth the upfront cost.

We purchased this SuperSack because all of the local retailers discontinued carrying it as a stock item and we had no other economical choice but to purchase the SuperSack quantity from Sam’s Club. The GroundSmart Rubber Mulch was a great purchase which ultimately adds to our home’s overall curb appeal year over year.

Bought this product a few years ago was happy. New one is no longer the same quality. Cut my hands several times on wires sticking out. A definite concern since it’s supposed to be wire free, since it is for playgrounds.

On top of having to worry about getting cuts it came covered in a black dust even though it is green. So if you touch it you end up with black stuff all over your hands like you have been playing with regular black tires.
