20 Best Grooming Tools For Poodles (2023 Updated)

The grooming tool is heavy but works wonderfully on our tabby with a very thick undercoat. I was amazed at the amount of hair removed in a few minutes of combing. However, our other cat with thinner fur is not a fan of the tool but will tolerate it for a little while.

The mitt is extremely oversized, even for my large hands, but the kitty with the thinner fur coat likes the nice massage from the nubs on the glove. Removing the hair from the glove is not easy unless you have a solid layer on the glove to peel off.

Over all quite impressed.

I adopted a short haired dog from the local shelter. She shed more than I anticipated so I used a dog brush and it didn’t help. After researching online at Chewy, I purchased this deshedding brush and I am so happy I did! I brushed her 2-3 times a day the first week, and got enough hair to fill 2 quart jars each time I brushed her.

I now only brush her once a day and get a handful of hair at most. This brush definitely does the trick removing dog hair. She still sheds, but a fraction of what she did at first. I highly recommend this brush.

I bought 4 different brushes/deshedding tools and this is the best one. The furminator did not even compare. My 4 cats are technically short haired but they have thick hair that shed A LOT. This got the most hair out, usually its never ending & i just have to stop brushing but with this the hair actually stops coming out as it gets all of it! I can finally pet my kitties without massive amounts of hair getting everywhere!.

Product is sturdy and the thumb plate plus the rubber handle makes controlling the de-shed process soo much easier. I groom dogs and this was a life safer for any long hair straight & wire coat, dogs needing to shed their undercoat vs.

Best dematting tool! It fits my had perfectly – and the very best part is the thumb piece that is attached! It allowed for great leverage and control to be gentle to the dog (especially tender ears).

We love our poodle pet dematting comb! It works really well with my cat who has long hair. It really helps getting her mats out. Its easy to use and don’t pull her hair. We have recommended it to friends and family.

Handle is comfortable. Tines are sturdy and longer than on a previous smaller brush. Works very easily and effectively on our Great Pyrenees. She likes it! Her fur is so thick that it fills up the brush rather quickly, so no problem to remove the fur from the brush– and no need to get a self-cleaning brush that could break more easily.

Ordered this to replace an older slicker that was deteriorating and didn’t have the cool push button to remove the fur. Unfortunately my old one still works better than this. It just doesn’t grab much fur because the bristles must not be as long.

Maybe if your dog has very short hair it would be ok. Safari is a better option. Will be ordering a new one.

I bought this because it was self-cleaning. I had previously bought one that was not. I was surprised to find that it was MUCH larger than the previous one. It was probably designed for a dog, but it does a great job on my medium-hair 10 lb cat.

She loves the feel of it, so I get total cooperation. When I am done, you just press the tab and all of the fur slides off.

Got this to replace another brush that was getting on in years. This looked to be similar, so I took a chance. It works really well on my medium hair cat, but her long haired sister not so much. I don’t know if it’s the rubber or what, but it pulls her fur as soon as I try to brush her.

She no longer likes to be brushed as a consequence. It gets 3 stars because I am still able to use it one of the cats.

I love the fact that the tips are not Sharp and I can comb my dogs without injuring their skin. Very easy to clean, also does a very nice job of removing tangles without ripping out hair. I have tree sap to deal with, so happy to have a good detangler.

Happy this brush keeps the loose hair cleaned out of their long coats. The dogs never complain when I brush them now, great style of brush, don’t need pressure to make it work. I have a short haired dog I can not use this on very often, so I bought a boar bristle brush for her.

This tool really picks up the kittens’ hair, even hair that isn’t obviously loose yet. Both kitties love being combed when they’re feeling calm and will let me groom them for several minutes at a time.

The comb fills up quickly so plan to have a trash can or tissue or something to hold the hair clumps while grooming. Also, the tool tends to deposit loose hair at the end of the stroke. I’ve found it’s easiest to swoop those up with a traditional brush.

So this tool is keeping some off me and the house, but isn’t the only tool you need. On dry days, combing the cats out also produces static so so of the hair floats away.

When I read “Stainless steel blade” in the description I thought it was referring to the long metal “blade” of spines — little did I know that it’s referring to an ACTUAL RAZOR INSIDE THE BRUSH! I was shocked when I started brushing my cat and it hit “snags” and chunks of fur started coming out.

I thought he had a super dense undercoat I hadn’t noticed! So I brushed away for a few minutes and amassed quite the pile of fluff — but when I took him on a walk, he smelled a dog or something and fluffed up and I could see STRAIGHT THROUGH to his skin! I literally sheared my poor kitty!! I did some research and it turns out that this sort of item has a literal razor blade that slices out your pet’s coat and you should only use it if it’s blowing its coat, and then only sparingly.

I tested it on a piece of paper (put it between the teeth) and it sliced right through like butter. This is a good product if you have an insanely fluffy cat/dog but please USE SPARINGLY as it doesn’t just comb out undercoat, it physically slices thorough the hair with a razor blade.

Don’t shear your poor kitty like I did.

I bought this for my longhaired cat and results were underwhelming, it removed maybe a tenth of the hair the furminator removes. I tried it on my rat terrier and it was a complete fail. The brush was relegated to the junk drawer until I heard one of our feral cats coughing up a hairball and decided to try to brush the poor guy and OMG THIS BRUSH IS AMAZING, it removed a literal mountain of hair from our Siamese mix and several handfuls from his brother and sister.

They all love the brush, it’s not that great for the super silky guys or the ones with really coarse hair but it’s wonderful for short and medium haired cats with dense fur or lots of underfloof.

I think this a great summer coat brush. I brought this for my fussy pooch and found it to be a great brush but my cavoodle has the hair of three dogs so it had a hard time getting through her coat. Otherwise I found it to be great quality.

I’ve used slicker brushes of all types throughout the years. From Chris Christensen to #1 All Systems, to Tuffer Than Tangles and Les Pooches or Activet. Each has it’s own best use. This is a very flexible two-sided brush.

The black backed side has pins that are lined up in straight rows. This side is recommended for mats and tangles. The light colored side has pins set in an offset pattern for brushing to have the coat lay straight.

When I saw the length of the pins, I thought, Gee, these pins are kind of “regular” what could they do that other slickers can’t? Well, the side for mats works great!!! I was pleasantly surprised to see the miracle it worked on my dog’s coat.

She just released her cottony undercoat and it was snagged, “webby” and stuck. The undercoat was brushed out gently without taking out anything else. Her beautiful flowing coat draped beautifully. The brush is very, very flexible and protects the dog’s skin and coat if used properly.

I also put my free hand under the snarls & mats when brushing so I don’t press hard against my dog’s skin. Actually, the brush is so flexible, I don’t think it would let me scratch her! Don’t forget to mist your dog’s coat with a light mixture of conditioner and water before brushing.

Never brush a dry coat. The price isright. Wven with a small 10 lb dog, I have both the wide and regular size Artero slicker. Try it! I bet you’ll really be amazed!.

this is without a doubt one of the best fools I have ever used. I have Sealyham terriers who mat very easily. I saw it on a grooming video from Europe and went hunting. I have ever seen one here in Aus.

These are a gift for my daughter. She is going to love the new color pink. She owns lots of the Chris Christensen products and is never disappointed.

My cat jumped up on the counter where I give her treats and I saw the package with my new comb there, so I started combing her face. She loved it on her cheeks so I tried her back and sides. She started head butting me and rubbing to indicate she wanted more.

Than she flopped down and stretched out (3 feet as she’s a Maine Coone) and obviously wanted her belly combed, which is really unusual. When I’d pause to clean the comb she’d head but me and nip. She nips to show affection maybe 2-3 times a year.

While I was brushing her she nipped me 3-4 times. I was astonished at how much she loved the comb. Even if it didn’t work well for hair (and it does) it’s a great present for any cat.

This is the best comb of all the combs I’ve gotten so far to use when grooming my yorkie. The comb is small enough to comfortably fit under his long belly hair to use on his legs and feet. It’s small enough not to tangle the hair when using it to comb out the legs.

It’s easier than my other combs to work out any tangles in his leg hair. The small end of the comb is perfect to clean out eye gunk every morning. I’m sure that if he ever had a flea that it would pull them out as well.

I bought this comb 2 years ago. I use it daily and it’s still in like new condition! Great comb! Glad I found it!.

I have many CC combs and brushes for my Shih Tzu. I bought the turquoise face and feet comb because it matches his collar, leash, etc. It’s a very pretty color. I, however, thought it would be higher quality for the money.

It’s so flimsy that it actually makes a noise when I comb my Shih Tzu’s mustache/face. For some reason, I thought it would be more solid like the ring shorty comb, but with finer spacing. The small end does work great at combing his mustache where he licks his nose.

This comb should be priced at $10.

I’m a dog groomer of 15+ years. Been using this tool for almost all 15. This is the ONLY tool I use to perform de-shedding treatments on short hair coats. It’s also great for a thick arctic coat. This won’t work well or at all on long coats, they are best to have a Furminator brush as well as other combinations of tools used on them.

The dogs generally enjoy getting brushed with this tool because it’s soft and massages the skin. You can STILL brush burn with this tool just like any other brush so watch your number of passes and amount of pressure.

Also great for scrubbing/loosening coat during bath. Example of a few breeds/coat styles good for Zoom Groom: Pug, Pitbull, Smooth coated Chihuahua, Labrador Retriever, Beagle, Husky, German Shepherd Dog, Mastiff.

Examples of breeds/coats better for Furminator and/or combination: Golden Retriever, Rough Coated Collie, Bernese Mountain Dog, Pomeranian, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

After trying 6+ products, I finally found something that works for my dogs. I paired it with a bristle brush, to clean off the loose hair, but this works better than anything else I’ve tried for my pitbulls.

If I didn’t read the package, I would have just tried brushing my dogs with straight strokes, but the package said to use small circles. After about 5 minutes on each dog (I have 2), I had a golfball sized hairball.

That doesn’t sound like much to some, but for short-haired dogs, that is a lot. My complaints are that 1) when brushing, hair just goes flying through the air, 2) I have to use a second brush to wipe off the loose hair, 3) it is hard to wipe off the hair rinsing it off.

I will most likely use it more outside, when the weather warms up, to avoid having the hair go everywhere. Rinsing off the brush was just something that was inconvenient, because I wasn’t prepared for it.

It works really well on my dogs’ coats though, when nothing else worked.

I’m not much on leaving reviews, but I felt someone else needed to hear about this. I have a mixed breed pup with a -peculiar- coat type. I have tried everything from slicker-style brushes, to bristles brushes, and I even own the Furminator, but nothing could pick up the hair that I could easily pull out with my fingers.

I waited wayy too long to try this out because I had lost all hope for anything working, but it really does! Granted, I’m still a huge fan of the furminator and slicker brushes, just for other coat types, but if you have a dog with stubborn loose hairs that will NOT budge, then this works like a magnet and pulls them loose.

My second favorite aspect of this brush is that it is very gentle on the skin, so if your dog is nervous or jumpy (like mine) or has skin sensitivities then this is perfect! She literally did not want me to stop! I bought the “large size” for my 30 lb pupper (see pics for scale).

I originally got this brush for my dog, who has super short (buzzcut length) fur. She enjoyed what must have felt like a soft back scratching. For that lengrh of hair, I’d recommend being very gentle with this brush, though.

What I did not anticipate was how much my cat (short/ medium length fur) would enjoy this brush. She purred like crazy, and we made some serious headway on the constant shedding. Both animals are shiny and happy at the end of each grooming session.

The brush feels sturdy and has a nice, comfortable grip. I find that it is easy to clean, too.

I really wanted to like this. I tried this out on my German Shepherd. The tilting head was nice because i felt like it was puncturing my fur baby when i was brushing his legs however the noise when it tilts ks annoying.

I did like the size of the brush and amount of bristles – the brush picked up his hair pretty well. I wish there was a button to help push the hair out of the brush, its so hard to remove the hair from the center of the brush.

Other brushes out there are more user friendly and you wont end up with hair everywhere trying to remove it from the brush.

At first I was quite skeptical about this brush due to the metal bristles. My dog always fights being brushed and constantly bites the brushes or combs. I started brushing him and after a few minutes he sat down and let me brush him.

First time ever without a fight. He loves being brushed now and gets excited when I bring out the brush. It is very well made and gets the loose hairs out nicely. I now call it my miracle brush. I highly recommend this product.

Thank heavens for this thing! Why oh why did I struggle so long with other sucky dog nail trimmers/grinders before getting this? This is the quiet yet powerful dog nail grinder I needed for my beloved-yet-curmudgeonly older dog, who has gotten us kicked out of vet and groomer nail trimming sessions because he just wouldn’t have it.

Sure, it still makes noise, it is a power tool after all, but it’s much more quiet compared to other, less powerful products of this type. I tried less powerful grinder tools because they were battery powered but they didn’t do the job at all.

I thought I would mind the cord on this one but I don’t. It’s long enough, it’s fine, and it gives you the power! Plus it has the guard, which is good. Because it is so powerful, you really have to be sure to only use it for a second or two on each nail before moving on to another nail, otherwise it heats the nail up and it’s actually painful for your dog.

IF you’re not careful, you can actually burn the quick (toes) from the inside as the friction heats up the nail, so I just touch the grinder to each nail for a few seconds at a time and make my way down the line of nails, doing a little bit each day.

Even in just a few seconds, you can see the nail getting shorter — this thing really works. Also be sure to trim the fur around the nails first, so that this powerful grinder doesn’t catch it up and pull the hair.

My dog is so frightened of having his nails done that I had to use treats for 2-3 weeks to get him used to the grinder, first with it powered off, letting me just touch the grinder to his paws without turning it on.

Then I turned it on and held it up to the nails without touching them, so that he could get used to the sound, and gave him treats. 5 minutes at a time, 2-3x day, with this training. Now he lets me do his nails no problem.

I can’t believe it. Who knows what my dog is really thinking, but I could swear he feels much more comfortable and happy to finally have his nails trimmed down.

I received these products for free from @ConairPro and @Influenster in exchange for my honest review. I received (3) different products from ConairPro Pet but I tested 2 items on both Dogs and Cats This opinion is strictly for the Conair Pro Small Soft Slicker Brush.

The ConairPro brush says it’s for dogs under 30lbs but I say the ConairPro Pet Brush is meant for dogs under 20lbs. The brush head was perfect for brushing my cats but the head was too small for brushing my dog of 20 lbs.

The ConairPro Pet ergonomic brush handle is made of gel and very comfortable to hold. The brush handle was a perfect fit for my small hands so if you have large hands you will want to check the handle and head of the larger brushes before you make the purchase.

I thought It was the most comfortable handle I have used on a pet brush. I wish my personal hairbrush had the same handle. The head of the brush has small comfort tips so not to injure your pets skin or pull its hair.

I recommend the ConairPro Soft Slicker Brush to others but suggest people pay close attention to the size for your pet and check the size of the handle. I enjoyed this brush and would purchase it in the future.

This ConairPro Pet Brush is easy to use and did a great job brushing my pets fur without pulling or scratching their skin. My only complaint on the ConairPro Pet Small Brush is the size of the brush head.

I absolutely love this brush and so do ny pets. They get really excited when its time to brush them! I love the soft grip memory gel handle as it gives me good control and makes it difficult to drop when my animals are moving around.

It removes all tangles and any mat my animals coat with ease. The little sift black plastic pins don’t scratch or hurt ny animals like some of the other metal ones I’ve used. When used regularly, I’ve noticed it significantly reduces shedding on both my cats and dogs.

The brushes small design makes it perfect for animals under 35-35 lbs. My pets actually enjoy grooming now, all thanks to the Conaiir Pet Pro line! I received this product free from Influenster and Conair Pro Pet in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have a small shih-poo who is prone to matting and doesn’t really like to be brushed. She didn’t mind the first brush I bought as much on her back, but wouldn’t let me do her belly. I wanted to give the slanted brush a try as I had heard that was better for de-matting.

I went with the x-small since there wasn’t a small option, but it is way too small. The bristles are so fine that they just tug at her fur rather than actually brushing through it, and that’s not even the worst of the matted spots.

I gave two stars because I did like the construction of the handle, seems like good quality otherwise. However, I would not recommend for matted dogs.

I’ve used so many different brushes on cats over the years. I don’t know of any other brand/model that reaches under the chin and around tight spots like elbows as well as the smallest of these Bass slickers.

From fluffy longhairs to dense, short coats with seemingly limitless daily growth (“why isn’t this kitty bald yet?”), this brush is their absolute favorite. So many purrs! I’m so glad Chewy has these in stock regularly, because most retailers don’t have the little size cats love.

I now give them as gifts, and they have been well-appreciated.

I wasn’t sure what to expect. Surprisingly all 3 of my pets (2 dogs, 1 cat) really like this comb. I honestly didn’t think rotating teeth could make a difference but they do! And the smooth tips on the teeth are greatly appreciated by my pets.

This comb works better than any that I’ve ever used and believe me that’s a lot. Every now or then it will pull the hair on Lacy but the rolling combs clear any tangles and remove them with less glances and grows from Lacy.

I would recommend these to anyone who wants to untangle their fur babies without hurting them.

I work in cat rescue and frequently comb cats for fleas. This one is a good size. It covers more area than the small combs. It feels good in the hand and has a non slip grip. I recommend it.

As a mom of 2 labs and a golden, I do a lot of brushing. All three dogs line up for position when they see I have the brush. Love the different height bristles .

Absolutely loving this brush. I have bought so many trying to get rid of all the loose hair on my Rottie x Staffy and this is the only one that works. It loosens the hair and also pulls it together so I can easily pick it up and throw it in the bin.

Throw everything else out, this is all you need!.

My cat usually only let me brush him with my fingers but still not for long, and hides whenever he sees a brush. Not anymore, he enjoyed being brush by this brush and I can brush him longer than using my fingers, hair comes out easily & brush easy to clean, very happy!.

Finn my cat can’t get enough of this brush, he goes into complete bliss mode purring and contented, will actually try and cut in on the dog being brushed. The amount of hair this gets out is unbelievable, and it’s great on carpets and clothes to remove hair using the back side.

As the owner of two cockers, I am looking forward to avoiding mats this winter. Seeing how well this brush works with their shorter summer coats, I have no doubt that this will be even more helpful when I let their full coats come in thicker this winter.

Every spring, I battle mats when I go to clip off their thicker coats, and hopefully we will have far less to deal with given how well it works now.

I bought the brush anticipating a long-haired puppy. Our actual pup turned out to be short-haired. I tried the brush on our two Maine Coon cats, both of whom have undercoats. What a revelation! The brush works incredibly well and the cats adore being brushed with it.

These are cats that have grudgingly tolerated being brushed. Finally, they like it! It works so well, I immediately sent one to my friend who has siblings to our two. Highly recommended.

Not only are they gentler on your dog’s skin but they last. I just tossed out my mark III from March 2018 as the rubber started to tear – I groom 4-6 dogs every weekend AND condition coats throughout the week.

This brush was used multiple times a week – I keep one in my home grooming area and one in my box for shows. I also send a mark III home with every puppy kit! I would rather spend the money on the right brush and be sure they are kept in proper condition from day one.

I have been grooming for 10 years and this is THE best brush I have ever used. it gets a fair amount of undercoat, separates the hair perfectly for brushing and scissors, holds up wonderfully (my coworker has had hers for 3 years) and it is just great quality overall.

I have been hesitant to buy this because its about 25 bucks more then an average slicker brush, but if your in the bussiness, or even have your own family pet, this will last, so it IS worth it! even works great on cats.

About a year and a half ago, I had to have my 20-year-old cat shaved because her fur had become so matted. Bad cat caregiver me, I didn’t understand that she wasn’t able to groom herself as she used to, and since she had always hated for me to groom her, I didn’t realize what was happening with her undercoat until it was too late.

Her fur is short but soft and luxurious, almost like a rabbit’s—at least until it developed all these deranged tufts. Nothing worked to detangle it, and the vet felt shaving was the best option. Since then, she has seemed to enjoy having me groom her—I guess she finally got the point.

As her fur was first growing back, I used a very soft baby’s hairbrush made of goat hair, but once her fur got thicker, it started tufting again. This brush, used gently, completely resolves the issue.

And the mechanism for pressing out the collected hair is absolute magic! I use the soft brush for soothing daily grooming, but I am amazed at how effective this slicker brush is. I have rarely been so delighted at the efficacy of any product.

I have a Ragdoll cat and many who know the breed *know* that they have a thick, super fluffy long coat that needs regular maintenance despite having a cat that grooms well. I had another slicker brush that had the little dots on the tips- I bought that one thinking it would be gentler than this type- turns out I was wrong.

My guy hated that one. But this one! He loves it! I pull it out and he paws at me to hurry up and start brushing him!! He loves rubbing his face on it and having his chin and neck brushed with it the most.

And he tolerates and even enjoys (if his rolling over and loud purring is any indicator) having the rest of his body brushed now too, thanks to this brush. I love that it has a “cleaning” mechanism too.

Makes it convenient for me so this bad boy is a double whammy. I’ve had it for months now and it’s held up well and does a good job at really working through the coat whilst being gentle on their skin and ensuring there are no tangles/matts & also pulling away loose hair.

Nice tool! My kitter friend loves it! Although she loves being brushed and combed in general, I have been using a regular comb and hair brush. at times a fork of all things to gently “scratch” her. The ones I was using did not fully grab that fine undercoat of her short fur; however, this does the trick and really does a good job.

This brush is a good design that is very easy to clean by push of a button. I never thought I would get that much fur from her short coat. It appears to satisfy the gentle scratching she likes with more coverage.

I noticed this slicker helped release little bits of dander as I brushed it all down to the nap of her tail end to collect it/wipe it off with a warm wet wash cloth. Her response is elevated from the usual love to a total gush, purrs and all.

almost to the point of overstimulation – she rubs all over it and gets engaged in the action and will even play and love bite it.

I have ordered this comb before and my husband bought me another one, that came with bent teeth and this version seems cheaper. There was no packaging except for plastic around it and the teeth are bent and not even straight! My husband tried to straighten them, and well they’re still not right and that’s not what I paid for! Will have to return and reorder.

Thanks customer care for not caring what you send out! I really need this right before Christmas. Quality control would be nice! 😕.

The regular face comb is 5 stars even at $33. 00. Unfortunately, this is an epic fail. After 2 months the color was rubbing off all over the Comb. CC products come at a premium price, which I’m fine with, but the color combs just aren’t worth it.

I’m not a professional groomer or breeder, just a customer with an 11 pound Havanese who does her own grooming, so my combs are not subject to excessive use.
