20 Best Grooming Clippers For Poodles (2023 Updated)

Spent a lot of time reviewing dog clippers and watching YouTube videos of professional groomers. They obviously have more equipment in their arsenal. I am a diy person and need to start somewhere. These clippers are highly recommended by many.

I received the clippers and Andis combs today (purchased separately from Chewy). The clippers have some weight and just feel like quality in your hands. I only plugged it in and cycled through the speeds.

It sounds great. Highly recommended. I purchased the Andis Universal Stainless Steel Dog Combs 8-Piece Set as well.

I bought this clipper about 4 years ago for my shih tzu mix. He still had puppy hair so it worked okay. It did leave the hair very choppy though. After my pup grew and shed his puppy hair, the clippers didn’t even want to go through his thick hair.

I guess the blades aren’t sharp enough or the clippers dont clip fast enough. It also overheats!! Dont waste your money. I bought a wahl 5 style groom instead. It’s so much better. It doesn’t leave his fur choppy, and it works on my new wavy/curly haired dogs too!.

We just bought this a few days ago. We had to trim down our sheepadoodle, who is a pretty big guy. Unfortunately, not even a quarter way, these clipper started to heat up and got so hot that I could not hold it correctly.

We had to take multiple breaks to let it cool down enough to continue. My dog loves to be trimmed and would have loved it even more if we did not have to take so many breaks and start all over again.

Bless his heart he was patient with us. If this product didn’t heat up so much or at all, it would be a good product.

During COVID, I was grooming my Pomeranian with a WAHL clipper meant for humans. The cut was choppy and required me to go over his coat several times. We finally got a TSC in our town and I bought this today.

The kit is nearly identical but for the fact that the clipper mechanism itself is much heavier to hold, louder, and has a more durable cord. Functionally, it cuts exactly the same. They charge you more than double the price and it doesn’t cut any smoother or nicer than the version for humans.

Plus, it’s so loud that my dog was panicked and fearful, which did not happen with the human clippers. This is a total waste of money. Buy the human version (or not WAHL)- it’s cheaper, lighter, quieter.

You don’t need the stupid gimmicky apron for the extra $30. Scam.

Summary: good for the price, powerful motor, will get hot, but it’s normal, The accessories are good but I don’t use them. This item is loud (compared to my Philips grooming kit for men I bought from Costco, which I have used to trim my cat), but powerful.

I gave up using the Philips on my cats because the pets’ fur is really dense and much more and my man-trimmer just was not powerful enough. This clipper just works. It gets hot after maybe half an hour of continuous usage, just enough to finish one cat (I have four).

I decided to let it cool for a while for the next cat because I’m afraid the motor inside will get too hot and fail. I think that’s normal for that power. Anyway, it solved my problem, and it comes with a nice box.

I use to have the older pair of wahl pet clippers. When I used them and I was hooked. They were the best, smooth cutting clippers. Cheap and very effective. They lasted for about 3 years with regular cat clippings.

Once they went bad I bought the newest they had. I opted for the cordless. They worked really well but after a year they went bad. I bought another pair cordless and they were junk. I returned them and opted for a corded pair.

JUNK. I was thinking maybe it was just the store I was purchasing them from. I went to a different store and bought another cordless pair… junk. I said I’ll try one more time. This time I bought the corded pair and guess what? JUNK.

These things will not cut melted butter. I don’t know what happened to wahl but I’m done with them. They are junk, junk, JUNK! Now I have a cat that looks like it has a schnauzer cut. I’m beyond frustrated with Wahl! Don’t waste your gas money.

Trust me you will have to return them.

I am a fursuit maker and I bought these clippers because I heard Wahl was a good brand of clippers. I needed them to shave fur to finish paws, heads, ect. when I started to shave, the fur would easily get caught in the clippers.

I thought “Okay, I guess I’ll have to go really slow”. Even when I did, it barely cut any fur! It Took almost two hours to get the fur to the length I wanted. It also got really hot not to long after using it.

I had to give it three brakes to cool down, for fear it would burn out and break. Would not recommend. Bad for fursuit making, DO NOT BUY.

I guess I’m having a hard time finding clippers that you can use on the whole body that aren’t 100s of dollars. These were slowing down dramatically in 15 minutes, sounded like they are dying. Meanwhile my 12-year-old clippers can still manage to get the job done.

These probably work fine for trims and touchups (but not full body shaving a 50lb Standard Poodle). I liked that my other andis blades worked on this clipper so that’s why 3 stars. But I am still returning.

Excellent clippers! Bought these to groom my Shihtzu at home because his groomer is closed during the Covid pandemic. He normally gets groomed every 5-6 weeks as I keep him in a “puppy cut”. I had no experience grooming, but have seen the groomer use clippers and I watched a few videos online.

It was a lot easier to clip my dog than I expected it would be. The clippers come with a #10 blade and assorted combs to control the length. I started out very carefully with the included #10 blade and longest comb, then graduated to the shortest one, but that wasn’t short enough.

I ended up buying #4, #5 and #7 blades to get the desired length. My recommendation is that you start with the #10 blade and combs then go from there to reach your desired length. REMEMBER, the higher the blade number the SHORTER it cuts the hair.

#10 blade must be used with a comb attached or you will butcher your dog. The #4 and #5 blades were used without any comb attachment. I do his entire body, head and face with these blades. I got the #7 blade for his legs because the #5 wasn’t quite short enough.

I clipped my dog, then bathed him, then did a final clip. Family and friends all said I did just as good a job as the groomer! One final recommendation on blades – make sure you get the right type of blade because there are regular and “skip-tooth” blades.

Just bought these today. They started off great on my golden doodle. After about 15 minutes they slowed down a bit. I took the blade off and cleaned it and put some oil on it. Didn’t help. 10 minutes later and they shut off altogether.

I left them unplugged for about an hour and turned them back on. Ran for a minute and died. Returning tomorrow.

I did not receive the 12 pieces as pictured, I only received 8 pieces. the clipper was not very quiet when cutting. The blade head cutters are too close together making it hard to cut the hair.

Im stunned by the performance and quality of this shaver. It cuts through my cats hair like butter. Im tryna get fleas off our cats. This helps see them better and clean the cats much more efficiently.

The product is a great product for what you pay. But it is NOT QUIET! Maybe it is, but I am not sure what product it is compared to to say that it is “quiet” or what noise level is considered quiet on a razor.

We purchased the corded version of these clippers, with a bit of apprehension about how they would work, as well as our own grooming abilities. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to use and that they handled very well.

They easily and cleanly cut through the thicker coat of our pet. First time using the clippers, but we can see where, with not much more practice, we can perfect the cuts and save a lot on professional grooming (while still achieving a nice cut)! It did help to watch YouTube videos to see how grooming was done by professionals, plus we’re fortunate to have a cooperative pet.

Would definitely recommend these clippers.

I’ve been grooming my long-haired dog (Australian shepherd/golden/lab mix) at home for a few years now. This clippers gets the job done, however I wish it had more guides. The ones it comes with work okay, but despite having plenty of practice in trimming my dog, I feel like it still comes out choppy at times or cuts unevenly.

The adjustable lever on the side comes loose pretty frequently as well, and it makes a horrible rattling noise while the clippers is going. It scares my dog and so I’m constantly having to retighten the screw.

We purchased this for our plush coat shepherd who needed her bloomers groomed badly. She hates being brushed and had layer and layer of thick hot undercoat. The clippers were very efficient in removing all the hair and we could tell our Lexi felt much better (and cooler) after she was “cleaned up”.

I must admit I was a bit intimidated as I’ve never used clippers on a dog, but the guard allowed me to get the desired result, and gave me confidence within a couple minutes. The various attachments allow for flexibility also.

I couldn’t believe how fast I was done. The clipper feels sturdy and well made. It is a nice kit and I’m pleased with the purchase. The only dumb thing I did in preparing to use it for the first time was; when applying the oil to the blade as it tells you to do (this will make you giggle.

as I said, I’ve never used clippers before) I was following the instructions that say to “OIL for maximum efficiency. Place one or two drops of oil on blades while clipper running” well, I did that but tried to help the oil along by using the little brush provided thinking it would help spread the oil with the clipper running.

yeah, you can guess. it started chewing up the little bristle brush. Oops, LOL. So don’t do as I did. Leave the brush in the kit till you’re done and ready to clean it, oh, and turn it off : )) Duh!! Other than that little faux pas, all was well.

I’d say it was a good investment.

One of my cats has very fine fur that tangles and mats easily even with regular brushing. We’ve tried many different clippers and it seemed like they couldn’t ever get through her fur. The one clipper that made it through her fur would get clogged on every pass.

This is the first clipper I’ve owned that goes all the way through her fur without clogging! It cuts so well that it doesn’t feel like I’m cutting anything at all. It’s fairly quiet, so I’m able to get neck and chin mats out quickly without much stress.

It doesn’t seem to heat up very quickly either. I was able to shave half of her body in a fraction of the time it normally takes, leaving both of us much happier. I highly recommend this set!!.

I had a Wahl Arco that broke after it dropped. I decided to order this as a replacement after doing a lot of research. The quality of the Bravura does not seem to match that of the Arco (which was a cheaper price).

I had to dig around in the case to finally find the oil and brush (which I thought was missing). The brush is pretty substandard. Additionally, the clipper had little hairs on it, and the blade and plastic had nicks.

I would say the construction of the plastic is also substandard and not what you would expect for a clipper that is almost $200. I had an $80 Andis I bought years ago that I would rate higher. Not sure why this brand are so hot in the grooming market.

I got these about 6 months ago when our standard poodle was about 6 months old. After doing research these seemed like the best, and it was time to splurge on good clippers. Fast forward to now- They literally just don’t cut it.

Even with careful maintenance, the blade barely cuts hair, pulls the hair, and can’t be taken apart to properly clean or sharpen. It worked well for 2 puppy cuts, and by 4 it was just causing more annoyance for me and my dog.

Had my groomer friend take a look and she was very unimpressed. The battery seems fine, but the clippers are now worthless. I could try a new blade, or I’ll just get a better set up with multiple blades and the ability to FULLY clean and sharpen.

Used on cat. Started by setting clippers on floor and letting them run so cat got more used to noise. Did this several days. Then trimmed a little. Took three days to do back and sides (all I dare do) the first time.

He was not so much scared of noise by then, but did not like vibration when touched. He got more used to it all as he was trimmed more and I did most of sides and back in one attempt the second time I trimmed him.

Fur looked like child had taken scissors to it when I used the guide comb attachments, so finally used without those and looked smoother. I have a second cat I would not dare trim with these as he is very noise averse.

Both are long-haired.

I am very happy with my new pet clipper. It is very quiet which my pup appreciates. But the best thing about it is that I can get replacement ceramic blades for it, which I could not do with my Andis Versa clipper.

I especially appreciate the customer service person who spent the extra time with me in picking a clipper with replacement blades available through Chewy.

This electric clipper weighs over a pound, which is considerable weight for a clipper. The cord is huge–almost as large as the super-powered Vitamix blender. Completely unnecessary to have it so large and makes it difficult to navigate around my dog.

The plastic case it comes in has a clasp that is fidgety and has sharp edges. Thanks to the enormously thick cord, items will only fit in that case one way. All in all, a terrible purchase.

Couldn’t believe that these trimmers didn’t come with any instructions. Yes, there was an owner’s manual but it only explained how to replace the blades. It stated “oil the blades often” but didn’t say how or where to do that.

NO instructions on how to use the trimmer to trim my pups. I looked on YouTube and found some instructions for other trimmers but none specific to this model. The resulting hair cuts are embarrassing.

Their coats look like ski mogul bumps. I’m considering returning the item to Chewy but, if I bought a different one, I wonder if the results would be equally bad as the problem is most likely with the way I’m using the tool instead of the trimmer design.

I have a long-haired Chantilly cat who had severe mats under his belly and hind legs. I first used a mat comb after a pet detangler spray to loosen as much as I could followed by letting his fur dry.

Then I used these clippers on his fur. It required me to clip several layers of his fur first before it easily trimmed down to the mat. Once at each mat I used a downward motion and after some time was able to trim it off without burning or cutting his skin.

I followed it by applying a layer of Zymox skin irritation cream ( available and most pet stores) to ensure that he would have relief from any skin irritation. The clippers are fairly quiet. The blades did get very warm to the touch in about 10 minutes, so I stopped frequently to allow it to cool down.

That made for a lengthly and uncomfortable job with a cat. My main complaint is that it took some real effort to get the clippers to trim the mats away from the skin which may not have been as strong as blades as I had hoped for to speed up the process but it did keep it from cutting his skin though.

4 out of 5 stars because of the 10 minute intervals, and of the struggle.

I purchased this as my old cheap clippers had broken. I needed something that was reliable as I have 3 cats. One who is older and she finds it hard to groom her hind legs. She is a Maine coon and has a outer coat that protects her from the cold, heat, rain and wind.

She has an inner coat that is very thick and keeps her warm through winter. As she is malting I needed something that will work well, little noise as she spooks easy. She isnt a fan of getting shaved especially around her hind legs but we got it done.

So happy my girl is happy.

I absolutely love this! If you buy quality, such as this Wahl Quiet Electric Clippers, it pays off. (We had a battery operated clipper that wore out in 2 months. ) I have used this clipper twice since receiving it.

The results are so nice. A quality purchase as this Wahl clipper pays off for all parts can be replaced by Wahl which is a rare surprise.

It’s a good razor but it was too loud. I wasn’t able to finish grooming my dog because she was scared the whole time with how loud it was.

Wow, these are amazing and well worth the money. They are super quiet and don’t stress my dog out. My 18 month old Miniature Schnauzer was hating going to the groomers so much, I decided I’d splash out on these to see if he would tolerate me trimming him instead, and he does.

They will soon pay for themselves in money saved on grooming fees. The changeable length is really useful, and being cordless makes the job so much easier. I used to own £25 Wahl corded trimmers that were noisy and awkward to use.

These are 100 times better.

This is the best mini clipper on the market. It is easy to hold and shaves small faces and feet with ease. It is very quiet and does not get warm. The blade speed does not change throughout the shave and battery life is long.

100x better than any palm clipper that uses regular batteries. Replacement blades are available, however with good care and maintenance they will last a very long time. The BravMini along with the Bravura clipper create a wonderfully groomed dog.

Perfect clippers for pro groomers and those of us who groom our own animals.

I should of purchased sooner I have a toy poodle and Lhasa aspo with knots in there hair and are not friendly with strangers. The machine cut right through. We did take breaks due to the machine getting a little hot but over all great purchase Wont being back to the groomers.

The clipper itself seems very durable. But after using for less than 5 times, the clip is not clipping. I can only hear small motor noise, but no clipping movement. I tried adjust the power screw but no change.

After using the scale for a while, it feels good, good quality, nice appearance, and the glass texture is very stablestanding on it for a few seconds shows weight, the body scale responds quickly and accurate.

In addition, I can also check the indicators by connecting with the mobile APP. It feels very good. For me who is losing weight, the cost performance is very high, is very good.

The clippers don’t cut as good as the previous pair that I purchased.

I have had these clippers for 4 years and I clip my fur baby horse twice a year. These leave no clipper lines which is great for me cause I have a bay and clipper lines show easily. The blade it comes with I use for body, bridle path, legs, muzzle, around the hoof, ears, and face.

They are quiet and easy to use. My horse is a big boy. My friends have borrowed these for their horses and they love them! The clippers clip his big body quickly. His tack sizes as reference for how big he is: Bridle/halter- O/S Reins- O/S Boots- X-large/XX-Large (depends on brand) Breastplate- O/S He is a very stocky 17.

I am an at home novice groomer just for my own dogs and I love the convenience of this clipper. Its nice and light to hold. The blade trims quick and clean. It has a few adjustments to the blade height as well as the different guards it comes with.

The second battery that it comes with is great so you can have one charging while you are trimming. I especially love the color it comes in.

The blade and handle barely got warm, little noise, doesn’t shake much, the clip in the photo took about an hour and 30 minutes. Makes a clean cut only leaving a little lines but easily fixed by going over them A-few more times.

A little smaller then I expected but definitely worth the money!.

My 6 yr old Yorkie-Shih Zhu mix was waaaaaaaaay overdue for a trim. He started to look like a cross between Chewbacca and an Ewok. He stood still and the DVD was helpful. My groomer charges $50 every 3 months which hits our budget a lot.

Our boy is so lazy and used to being “babied and held ” so he likes to lay down for EVERYTHING, even during trims. My daughter and I took turns because our arms grew fatigued and the trimmer became hot, but not on the blades or skin.

I watched the enclosed video with extreme nervousness. I have never clipped any of dogs hair. I was forced due to the outrageous groomer fees where I live. As soon as I started I was shocked. ! It’s so easy and quick.

My dog was calm and just stood still. I was done in no time. I’m definately looking forward to the next clip. Price was good for all you get.

Overall I love it and the little kit it comes with. I couldn’t afford to keep paying $75 at the groomers so I figured investing in these would be worth with. I was right! My Niyla had gotten a bit matted since she doesn’t like to be cut but these clippers worked wonders.

However they do get a bit hot when on for awhile, I just turned them off and let them cool in front of the fan. Great product! Money well spent.

I have given a low rating as these clippers are faulty. The leaver on the side which adjusts the blades immediately works loose as soon as you start using the clippers and adjust the blades. So not only can you not adjust the blades but you continually have to tighten the screw which makes for a very frustrating experience.

Not good for my lovely dog either when having to constantly stop, start the grooming. I do think the clippers would be really good except for this very annoying fault, I have notified groomers and hoping for a replacement pair.
