20 Best Grocery Store Birthday Cakes (2023 Updated)

My Carrot Cake, this year April 2022, did not ” look ” the same. At first I could not figure out what was different about. Then I realized what was amiss. The bottom layer of my cake was only about 1/4 of an inch thick!! The middle and top layer of cake is under 1 inch thick, so my cake slices look inappropriate to serve my neighbors for Easter Sunday Brunch.

My cake looks like something I would have baked, not one I paid for from a baker. I have ordered this cake and several other David’s Cookies products because I can rely on a quality product, inside and out.

It is too late to reorder another cake, so I’ll just tell my neighbors my order didn’t come in time. The Carrot Cake is in the freezer, maybe I’ll use it for my birthday cake in June ( I will be 71 years young ).

Usually I have a chocolate cake for my birthday, but I don’t have space in my freezer for two cake boxes, plus everything else and being on a fixed income now I shouldn’t spend the extra money for another cake.

I was glad to find a cake online that could be ordered in such short notice. It arrived well packed and still frozen. It was much smaller however than I even imagined and was somewhat dry. The icing was good.

But the cake part was dry and the cake dried out pretty fast. We threw about 1/3 of it away. But I did serve the purpose.

The cake was outstanding. My family thoroughly enjoyed the birthday celebration with your chocolate cake. They all raved over how good the cake was. It turned out perfectly. It made my Dad’s 80th birthday s memorable event.

I sent this birthday cake to my Mom for her 94th birthday. I tried to locate a lot cal bakery but could not let cate any who would deliver even though we are in the midst of a Covid crisis. At whim ordered from Chef Steve.

My Mom said the cake was absolutely delicious and nicely decorated d arrived in perfect condition. My only criticism is that there didn’t seem to be anyway to include a message. Thank you chef Steve.

My son turned 21 and I needed a good cake for him and his classmates. I had a glitch when ordering online. Phone messages went unanswered. Lost a day. Very stressfull. Cake was excellent!!!!. Everything worked out.

This cake was quite heavenly! They are cheap, don’t have too much sugar, and give me enough of a good portion size. This 3-Layer Cake taste like I made it at home. It has a light toasted coconut taste and covered in real coconut flakes.

I don’t understand how a fridge cake can be so moist and fresh, but this cake is! So super moist and if you like coconut and coconut pieces, well, this is the cake for you. It’s always fresh and delicious and doesn’t take long to thaw, and it doesn’t have a frozen taste at all.

Pepperidge Farm makes this perfect size cake perfectly. Tastes like a “bad-for-you” food but doesn’t leave you feeling weighed down and tired afterwards. I’d forgotten just how delicious they are until it literally melted in my mouth.

Definitely buying again.

I love this cake so much and it seems many others feel the same way because it is always sold out!!I always put this on my list and check online to make sure that Walmart has them in stock. It always shows it to be available but lately it never is.

I get so disappointed and try another brand which always upsets me because I haven’t found anything yet to be as good. Walmart what is the problem? Yesterday I found some at Kroger’s. I checked in Walmart right after and like before the app.

showed they were in stock!!! Looks like your computer or programmer aren’t doing their job.

This is a delicious cake. I’ve ordered it many times though the years but the last time I bought one from Walmart it had MOLD in the middle. Turned me away for a couple years! I finally decided to try the cake again.

I tell myself, it couldn’t happen a second time. Believe me I will check before we eat! Pepperidge Farm has turned out very good Products at reasonable prices!.

This cake is moist and flavorful. The frosting layers taste something like custard. And the ganache on top is luscious. You cannot tell this cake is gluten-free! And it’s beautiful when presented on a platter.

Very impressed.

I have a wheat and gluten allergy — not a sensitivity, an actual allergy — and so I follow a gluten-free diet. I wasn’t sure where we could get a cake for our birthday and anniversary this year due to the pandemic.

Luckily, I found this in a google search online, saying it was sold at Target. While I’d originally wanted the other flavor, the chocolate one was all they had in stock. They weren’t able to write on it due to the gluten-free thing, but they did give me a “happy birthday” decoration for it.

The cake itself was rich and delicious. Although it was expensive ($11), it easily served two people with leftovers for seconds. I would definitely purchase this again in the future.

We’ve had this many times before and it’s always delicious. This last time however, it was obviously much smaller than usual. We weighed it to confirm and it was 1. 8oz less than the stated weight. Disappointing.

I have been ordering birthday cakes uinterruptedly for my children & their spouse. My first order was in 2009 (13 years ago). & that too from the opposite side of the world, it’s India But what astonishes me the most, is that the standard & quality has been perfectly maintained during the last 13 years.

I ordered the Pepperidge Farm Coconut Cake twice because I knew it was good enough, actually too good, and the value was the secondary reason. This time I trust Pepperidge Farm to have a really good Chocolate cake and I seem to remember getting it many years ago.

The icing is creamy and not bitter. The cake texture is moist and very delicious and the price is excellent.

This is actually a review for the keylime flavor but Influenster doesn’t have it listed. This cake was okay. The first thing that I noticed was that the keylime flavor was almost nonexistent. The send thing I noticed was that the flavor of the icing and cream had an overwhelming flavor of vegetable oil.

Actual butter would have been a better option to create a buttercream. I would actually pay more for it. The cake itself is a little flavorless too, but it is very soft and moist. This cake is good enough if you’re just trying to satisfy a sweet tooth in a short period of time.

Also, the price could have been lower if it were going to be made with the cheapest oils, high fructose corn syrup, and lack the key flavor of a keylime cake, the keylime. I would NOT buy this again really.

Holy yum. For an incredibly easy decadent chocolate cake you cannot go wrong with this deliciousness. It must be kept frozen and thawed in the fridge, so remember to take it out before that craving for chocolate kicks in.

This is pure rich decadence. If chocolate overload isn’t your thing I’d avoid this. If it is- DIG IN!.

Cakes come completely wrapped in paper in a plastic container. The seven layer cake is very good as is the black and white cake. They both are exactly as I remember when I was growing up. I highly recommend these cakes.

Just opened my fist box of these a couple days ago but I’ll want more soon. These are delicious is you’re wanting something super sweet. If you can’t have sugar, steer clear. The cake melts in your mouth, along with the sweet whipped cream in the middle.

And the frosting is that perfect Hostess style.

Perfect combination of cake, icing and creme filling. Been buying Hostess cupcakes for years. The perfect snack. Individually wrapped so very easy to throw in your bag on the way to work. I love these! They also come in many flavors and so far I love them all!.

These took forever to arrive! When they did they just aren’t good. The cake is gummy, the fondant is tough and the center cream is the only saving grace. It is light and fluffy. Not good at all and I wouldn’t recommend.

Amazing taste. Perfect texture. Can’t tell it’s gluten free. It’s light and delicous. I’m allergic to gluten but my husband and other family members and friends are not and they absolutely love this cake!! It is pricey but worth it.

It’s a treat!! Worth every penny you gotta look at how beautiful it is and it’s so flavorful in every bite it’s perfect.

Really good except for the strawberry stuff. Remove the strawberry stuff and add condensed milk to make a delicious Tres leches cake variety along with this item.

This cake is hands down the BEST cake I have ever tasted. And to top it off. it’s gluten free, which you would never know. I am not gluten free, but still choose this cake every time! Moist, creamy, and so flavorful!! The only bad things is that I can’t buy it in a full sheet cake size, and it’s pretty pricey for the amount of cake that you get.

With COVID I had not seen my son in awhile and I decided to try 1-800-Bakery-and they did not disappoint me. I ordered the Happy Birthday Cookie and it was delivered on his birthday! I was happy he was surprised and was able to celebrate with his family.

First of all they are not too sweet !!! I have layered the slices with fresh berries, mousse and whipped cream .An easy and impressive dessert .

Both of these cakes were burnt all around the edges. It tasted awful. I will never order this again.

The marbled was better than the plain, but both were dry. I thought there was an unpleasant aftertaste. Maybe if used with whipped cream and fruit it would be OK.

Delicious! A nice little snack. I like how small they are to eat. Tastes like vanilla cake, very soft texture. My daughter loved the sprinkles.

My kids love these. Great size and they really like the sprinkles. They taste like zebra cakes which my family likes. As another reviewer mentioned these are perfect to take to school for birthdays! Only downside is they can be hard to find.

I am in love with these Little Debbie birthday cake snacks. My mom turned 60 this year, along with Little Debbie, and these were the perfect little birthday cakes to have when we celebrated her birthday a few weeks later.

I now think I’m going to get them for everyone on their birthday!.

Well Sara Lee y’all ruined the All Butter Pound Cake. Tastes like a greasy mess with less flavor and the texture isn’t right. Please take out the soybean oil. Don’t care if it dries out as it is not a problem because most people eat it in a week or less (at least the old recipe).

My strawberry shortcake will never be the same. What a shame. To all the fools who let their pound cake sit in the freezer long enough to dry out…what is wrong with y’all? That was some good pound cake but not anymore.

Shame on y’all and Sara Lee too.

This pound cake was just fair, not bad, but definitely not excellent. It is a bit short in height, and it is a dense texture. The flavor is on the bland side, it has to have a topping and whipped cream.

It is not a pound cake that I would feel comfortable setting down with coffee for guests. With honesty, I have to say the Walmart bakery pound cake is so much better. I won’t write a review for their’s here, but it is one that can stand alone, it doesn’t need dressed up with additional items.

This Sara Lee pound cake is yummy. I am always in the mood to eat this cake. I purchased it with other merchandise ie. Ant bait, fabric deodorizing spray and who ever packed my bag threw all of my things into the same bag.

Needless to say the cake surrounded by ant bait and fabric spray took my appetite away.

We are extremely happy with our purchase. My mother-in- law lives too far away to visit on her birthday. We surprised her with a vanilla birthday cake. She was Thrilled and so shocked that it arrived in perfect condition in the mail.

The packaging was excellent and it tasted great! We will be using this service again!.

Dense and Moist – For the size, the cake was incredibly filling. The cake was dense, moist, and most of all tastey. With ordinary cakes, the frosting is too much to handle. The frosting on this cake was perfect in taste, sweetness, and quanity.

The cake was best when chilled, I must say. It was a hit with everyone who tried it. On top of the taste, the cake was gorgeous. The shape and quality of the cake from the visual was outstanding. You would not know that it was delivered.

If you are looking for a large cake, this is not for you. But if you are looking to feed 6 people, giving each a generous serving, then this is an absolute must.

Very impressive – I ordered a vanilla cake from Chef Steve at Bakery. Com for a friend who was about to celebrate her 40th birthday. Not only did the cake arrive the next day as promised. I was told by my friend that it was the loveliest cake she had ever received and that her coworkers Looooved the cake.

Her coworkers were very impressed with how the cake was packaged and delivered, so impressed that they each wrote down the website and commented that they were given an excellent idea of what to do the next time they had to celebrate someone’s birthday.

My only regret is that I was not in Florida to taste the cake. LOL Thanks Chef Steve, my friend became the envy of the office.

Got this for my hubby’s birthday because he never gets chocolate cake on account of I like white with whipped icing and I always get my way! Anyway, it took all my willpower to wait until he got home from work before trying a bite (surely he wouldn’t have noticed if I took just a little out of the edge?) but finally he came home and I got a nice big slice.

I was thrilled to find the frosting was very similar to Betty Crocker canned frosting, which I personally adore, as do my kids. It’s good stuff and made this cake super special for us. Second, the cake was moist and super chocolately.

Finally, the little pieces of chocolate along the edges are very yummy when you bite into them – it tastes like a Hostess Ding Dong – again, good stuff. We all loved this thing and will definitely buy it again.

This tastes like a big chocolate cake from boxed cake mix and frosting from a cheap tub. I had this a few years ago. And remember how good it used to be. Now its super sweet. And does not have the wow taste i was expecting.

Its a good value for a huge cake. But it tasted like bakery chocolate cupcakes. Most everyone that i served it to, said it was way too sweet. My biggest disappointment is the frosting. Its a cheap, very sweet, chocolate frosting can flavor.

Other than my mom’s home made triple layer chocolate chocolate cake,this is the best thing out there. It is my favorite. I purchase this year for my birthday because I wanted there to be no mistakes, no more left.

Had to even the field here. When the cookies came out I was beyond excited and they were a great let down. These cake truffles however have turned it around. They are amazing and exceeded my expectations.

They are moist, crunchy, sweet. I agree with other reviews that they are so decadent that one hits the spot and the you still have one for later. Just need to share that they are well worth the price and the hype for these cake truffles.

I love cookies, cookie batter, truffles, anything sweet really. But these are so gross! Honestly, these are the worst store bought cookies I’ve ever had! They have the texture of a protein bar. And they have a very weird artificial after taste.

almost like their made with artificial sweeteners. Honestly the after taste was similar to that of when you puke a little in your mouth. It was horrendous. I couldn’t even give them to my kids! I’m pretty sure all these 5 star reviews are compiled from Multiple websites (which target does often) and from people who never eat sweets and don’t know what sugar actually tastes like.

Just yucky. I had to check the expiration date because I thought they were old/moldy, but they still had 10 months till they expire! Do not recommend. They were also small and had a weird consistency.

I decided to try a pack of these since I had a coupon for them, and I’m so glad I did! They have a very yummy vanilla birthday cake flavor with juuuust the right amount of sweetness (for me, anyway! I love richer tasting foods, but those who aren’t big fans of sugar might not like these as well).

I definitely agree with other reviews that say eating just one is enough to satisfy. It’s perfect for when you’re craving something for dessert. Will definitely be trying the other flavors as well!.

This cake was for my 35th anniversary with my husband. He saw this and I thought what a nice gift to add to the other gifts. The cake is beautiful. The chocks te flavor was nice but the pink buttercream was so sweet that we had to scrape it off to eat the cake.

A bit disappointing.

Extremely disappointed! My kother turned 79 on July 8. She told me how much she enjoyed Carvel ice cream cakes when she was younger and living in New Jersey. Hence, I decided to get a small one from the local Walmart for her birthday.

The “crunchies” advetised on the box were mushy, the whipped frosting was rubbery, and it generally tasted freezer burned. I checked the expuration date, and it shows that it does not expire for another 3 months.

So, either the quality has significantly dropped OR the cake was thawed and refrozen during the manufacture and shipping process. Either way, it was NOT what we expected, andost of the cake was thrown away.

I had a Walmart pickup order this morning. One of the items was a Carvel ice cream cake for my son’s birthday. I noticed the top of the box looked a little strange but I thought it had gotten squished when they put it in my car.

I just popped it in my freezer. Tonight, I opened it up to find that there was no cake in the box!! It apparently had totally melted and somehow refroze into. nothing! I was MORTIFIED!! That was what i was supposed to serve for my son and his guests.

Needless to say they had nothing! I’ve never been so disappointed and embarrassed at the same time. Buyer BEWARE.
